ATEEZ SMALL PERFUME REVIEW: DIPTYQUE — L’OMBRE DANS L’EAU
disclaimer: this is not meant to be a serious perfume review, this is something fun for me to do as I love perfume. each and every one of us have different tastes and preferences when it comes to fragrances. what works for me might not work for you, vice versa. I’ll try my best to describe the scents but I will always suggest for you to go and smell them yourself before purchase. if you want to try these perfumes, please test or get a sample before committing to the bottle. picture credits to all owners.
ateez member: wooyoung
fragrance family: fruity floral
notes:
rose, blackcurrant buds, petitgrain, blackcurrant leaves
my scent experience:
the fragrance opens very earthy, I’m guessing from the petitgrain, and blackcurrant leaves as it smells like wet leaves. it reminds me of the smell of petrichor and the leaves after it rains. as it settles, it still smells earthy but the rose is very present, so you smell like a lush garden. the dry down surprisingly was light and sweet from the blackcurrants and the scent is similar to their popular Baies candle. I said surprisingly as I hardly come across lighter fruity notes in the dry down. think of it as an earthy wet rose scent that becomes a little sweet later on.
the projection is okay, it’s quite subtle so if you’re looking for something that stands out, this isn’t for you. as this is an edt, the longevity isn’t that long, lasting approximately 3 hours on me. if you like or are familiar with their Baies candle, you might like this one. I personally wouldn’t call this a fruity floral but more of a green floral scent so don’t purchase this thinking it’s a fruity and summery concoction I don’t really trust fragrantica.
additional notes from me:
I think of Wooyoung as someone who likes clean and herbaceous scents that aren’t too strong (according to his collection) so I was a little surprised that he has this in his collection, but Yeosang bought it for him as a gift so it kinda made sense as to why he has it. it’s on the sweeter side of Diptyque’s perfume catalogue but it still has that green scent that just screams Diptyque to me. I’ve been getting into earthy scents as of lately and I’ll always be a fruity perfume girl at heart so combining the two was while an interesting experience, I do like how it smelt throughout the time I wore it and would consider purchasing a bottle — maybe the edp for longevity.
who would I recommend this to?
anyone who likes earthy and floral scents.
those who like their best-selling Baies candle and want a perfume version of that.
anyone who wants to try out Diptyque fragrances.
if you’ve made it to the end, thank you for reading this review!! this is going to be my last review before christmas so if you’re reading this before then, I wish you happy holidays and I hope you celebrate this wonderful period with your family and friends. I will upload one more review before the year ends so, please look out for that one!!

sunday recap 👚💅🏻
literally play all day lmaooo
me and my friend set up a date for today so we go have jjambbong ramen near the place. we also have some crispy pork with sweet and sour sauce. the noodle get a 10 while the pork get a 9. it the smallest portion on the menu yet it enough for two. also everyone get one fried egg and I mix it with kimchi, sweet and spicy sauce, chilli and soy sauce 9/10
next there was like a festival in range of the lunar new year and that our main destination, look at home crowded with shop and shoppers lmaoo
the many many outfit i have tried on, plus the one shirt I thought was cute (the blue one).
white lace shirt: so close to buying it but I remember I already bought one I similar style literally this week
red bow shirt: they got some get-two shirts with half-the-price thing going on but it like so skin tight
yellow shirt: I love big ruffle collar so bad but this one one size smaller than mine :((
black dress: again with big ruffle collar that doesn't suit me but I want them anyway. my friend said it make me look like victorian maid
gingham dress: kinda giving cottagecore flowers on hair maiden
what i bought...this is 2$...if you wanna yell at me...consider i am very beautiful and smart
some random stuff i saw browsing through the market. lmaooo look at that shirt and that store. also the bracelet is cute but way out of budget. the necklace look cute too but I already got too many jewelry. and the perfume:DD love sugar baby and something like called sexy, and some tea scent. the tea scent istg is a dupe of matcha meditation like bergamot, tea, white chocolate. maybe im considering hmmmmmmmmm it cheaper than matcha meditation
then me and friend went to mixue for some milktead (black sugar boba tea btw 7.5/10 wayyy too sweet) and got this little blindbag figure...it look like discounted chocolate candy. then we ordered like thai style spicy and sour chicken feet and cause the boba tea didn't allow outside food so we gotta go to the park near that and then there only one pair of chopsticks and then we drop it and gotta share using a stick. fun.
at least when we dropped sauce all over our hand we decided to go to the mall near there and it the right decision cause I gotta satisfied my perfume crave by going around sniffling again, these stores I never got the chance before! look at my trophy
hmmm first one i checked is diptyque , the candle smell amazing btw. for the perfume I like most of it cause it very natural subtle scent. check some stuff people rave about. didn't like l'eau papier that much, something about it was giving mineral to me. fleur de peau is good tho (alec scent btw). glad I didn't order philosykos out of hype cause I discover I dislike fig note so much lmaooo. love love eau duelle and do son. warm vanilla cake and very sophisticated white floral, which once again alec would use dont @ me
next is jo malone. their spray test papers are so cute. peony & blush is still so pretty, and I'll add bluebell into my wishlist. not very long lasting tho
tried delina exclusif and it definitely more rose than lyche compared to of delina. need to come back and smell other bottles tho. did smell meliora cause they said they dont have valaya in stock and it very much giving ice queen
when i saw memo paris stall i cheer, i laugh, i giggle. most definitely i finally got a verdict for sintra memo, which I almost ordered a sample before. it suck ASS bigger than alec's btw. smell like rotten milk with rotten dried fruits. i clearly dodge a bullet. smell marfa and madurai and it sooooooo alecore mecore me so genius core. inle are pretty and siwa is my type (sweet vanilla)
there some launching pop-up for a hair curling iron brand and like they were doing it for free and I thought why not. first pick freshly iron second pic was after 1-2 hours. i can say curly hair doesn't suit me lmaooooo
dinner with noodle cause im outta money

Pleasing Scent Samples
Hello, friends! I ordered the Big Lip balm from Pleasing and with it came a fun surprise.
I already gave my initial impressions to @twopoppies as soon as I opened the package. It’s been a couple hours or so now so the scents have dried down on my skin and I can take a second smell to let you know my thoughts.
Full disclosure, I don’t think I have a very sophisticated nose 😂 But I’ll try my best to describe as accurately as possible. That said, I’m sure I’ll miss the actual notes and ingredients so consider this the most unprofessional review you could get from someone that just really loves perfumes and doesn’t mind being totally honest for better or for worse.
RIVULETS
Pepper, pine, and powder with floral come through. It reminds me so much of Gucci Memoire but slightly lighter. These are the notes from Fragrantica and I swear Rivulets is very much this but slightly cooler.
It also reminds me of Diptyque’s Figuier scent too. Overall very woody and clean!
Unfortunately it just won’t stay on my skin. I tried it on my wrist and the back of my arm but it only lasts about 10mins or so and then vanishes. ☹️ I really do love it (I was also a fan of Memoire) but if I took the risk of buying it, I know I’d have to put some Vaseline or something else on first to hopefully help the scent last longer.
Bright, Hot
Delicious! Cinnamon, Vanilla, Fruity! It reminds me of bourbon with some sweet tanginess. Or maybe Peach Schnapps! Like it has the spiciness from alcohol but I swear it makes my mouth water like after biting into a ripe peach. This is what I wanted Tom Ford’s Bitter Peach to smell like but Ford’s is just too musky and overpowering for me. I’ll 100% be purchasing Bright, Hot though! It’s so much more pleasant and light. The fruity notes come through with this more vs the musk. And it STAYED on my skin. I’m so obsessed with it, I want it in as a perfume and candle (Harold, please 🙏🏽).
Here are the notes from Bitter Peach to get an idea of what I mean:
Closeness
Oh, she’s SEXY 😮💨
I told @twopoppies it smells like spice, pink fruity bubblegum and a pink bubble bath! I also get rose. Pink, pink, pink. They chose the sample card well.
This one is the heaviest scent, almost like oud with it’s dark muskiness. But that sweet floral scent just makes it completely intoxicating. I couldn’t stop smelling myself after putting it on, it also had the strongest lasting power on my skin.
If this is the scent people are describing a “vaporub and sex” I don’t disagree but I don’t think the description necessarily does it justice. 😂 All the scents are definitely meant to be unisex so they all have a powdery, spiciness to them. But this one is just so alluring and HOT. It gives me sweat, heat and sweet playfulness.
The closest thing I could compare it to in my own collection of perfumes was Clean Reserve’s Sparkling Sugar.
But switch the Fruity and Musky amounts. Closeness is like this scent’s naughty sister. 🖤
And there you have it! As I said, I’m not a professional perfume reviewer by any means (clearly 🤣) but I hope this gives everyone some idea of what they can expect! And of course if anyone else got the samples and would like to add (or tell me I’m completely off the mark, haha) please do.
Overall I genuinely loved each scent and think there’s something for everybody here. My favorite compliment is when someone tells me I smell good so I’m really particular about what I wear but I can honestly say I’d wear all of these happily. I lean more towards Bright, Hot for my personal preference but Rivulets smells great for an everyday scent where Closeness would be perfect for a date night out. The quality also seems to be great so if you do plan to purchase like I am, I don’t think we’ll be disappointed with the product.
If anyone has anymore questions, I’m totally happy to answer. 🩵🧡🖤

Where did “Willa” come from?
Apologizes if this is old news but I found this interesting and wanted to share.
So many fics have Enid using "Willa" as a nickname for Wednesday that I figured it must've been in the show at some point. Yet, nothing I looked up seemed to support this (and no, I haven't gotten to watching the show yet, sue me). I remember doing an online search a couple of months back but the results were inconclusive. Well, I recently gave it another shot and found the following:
First, this name wasn't pulled out out of thin air. There are a number of articles that state the main character of Wednesday was actually named Willa Addams, with her nickname being Wednesday. This is corroborated by a couple of articles that shared the following synopsis released by Netflix:
After getting kicked out of eight schools in Five years, Willa, aka Wednesday Adams [sic], is beginning a new chapter of her life at the academy, the two-century-old boarding school attended by her parents. However, Willa wants nothing to do with their alma mater and she's already planning her escape. But this academy is like no other school she's ever attended. It's a school of outcasts with four main cliques, the Fangs (vampires) the Furs (werewolves), the Scales (sirens) and the Stoners. It is also a piece of the mystery that holds dark secrets about her family's past.
(Note: I could find no official statement from Netflix that matches this, but then again, it's been at least a year and a half, so said statement may not exist any longer.)
While this could be a simple matter of accidentally flipping a couple of names around, I did find an article dated August 10, 2021, that used the name Willa extensively when listing the various supporting characters in the upcoming show:
Enid Sinclair – Enid is a werewolf, but you would never know it thanks to her Californian smile and sunny disposition. Enid is the roommate of Willa and the complete opposite of her. Wearing heart-shaped, rose-colored glasses, she dresses in the school’s purple uniform accessorized with velvet scrunchies and rainbow-colored nails.
Xavier Thorpe – Xavier comes from wealth and privilege, which is shown through his preppy artistic swagger and his handsome charm. Just like Tyler, he is fascinated by Willa. Xavier is also a talented artist and expert fencer.
Bianca Barkley – Bianca is the closest thing that the academy has to royalty, and it shows in her attitude. As a Siren, Bianca has the ability to morph her body between scales and skin. Bianca is frequently at odds with Willa, but there’s a lot more to the Siren underneath her scaled exterior as her life has been far from easy.
Principal Weems – Principal Weems constantly clashes with Willa, who she believes is a trouble maker, and very reluctantly accepted her into the academy. While to the other students her demeanor is warm, she hides her true feelings like a skilled diplomat.
Dr. Kinbott – Dr. Kinbott can be considered eccentric thanks to her love of roadkill taxidermy, Diptyque candles, and cashmere ponchos. Despite her eccentricities, Dr. Kinbott is a thoughtful, perceptive, and professional therapist, who takes a keen interest in her latest patient Willa.
Ms. Novak – The only “normie” teacher of the entire academy, Ms. Novak is the dorm mother and the A.P. Bio teacher. Smart, quirky, and perceptive, she feels a particular connection to Willa.
To me, what gives this article credence is the mention of Ms. Novak, a character who was going to be in the show but was cut very early on due to the actress leaving production for personal reasons. This announcement hit the news around December, 2021, just a few months after the above article was released. Maybe it was decided during filming that the name "Willa" would be dropped completely? That makes sense, as Wednesday doesn't strike me as the type to tolerate nicknames and would likely threaten bodily harm to anyone who tried to give her one.
But why "Willa," specifically? I think I may have an answer. In a Q & A with Percy Hynes White, the actor that plays Xavier Thorpe, thatposted on December 4, 2022, the following question was asked:
Q: How did this show land on your radar? A: The same as any other audition, I just got an email and I think there was some kind of code name for it. It was called "Willow" or "Willa" or something. I sent in a video of me doing one of the scenes and stuff just went from there.
If Willa really was the codename for Wednesday (the series), which is also the name of the main character, I can see how a spotty info leak could've turned the codename into an actual name. If correct, Wednesday was never named Willa at all, but the internet being what it is, the name stuck around.
Any thoughts on Willa as a nickname? Others I've seen in fics are Wends and Wenny, which are so much easier to figure out. Only time will tell if I opt to use any of these in future works.

Is it great editorial design compatible with luxury brand ?
Dear Reader, I’m sure you know Diptyque. I personally rediscovered recently the brand and I just stoped on their designs : how a brand can have a so luxurious positioning and a so bad design editorial ? In that moment, I remembered the thematic of research proposed by Laurine about luxury industry and his lack of graphic design. I proposed to you a bit of history of the brand before an analysis of the Diptyque labels.
If the brand sells bath and bodys products but also home scents, it’s specialized in hight-quality fragrances and candles. The Diptyque house was created in 1961 by three artists, the painter Desmond Knox-Leet, the designer Yves Coueslant and the architect Christiane Gautro. At the beginning their shop exposed treasures of theirs travels before they were pionniers of the unisex perfume. More than that, the company broke new ground with proposed a hight quality candle as a beauty object to decorate the houses.
To dress up their new product, they decided to make an oval label reminding a medallion of the 18th century. From this simple shape Desmond Knox-Leet reproduced the design in all sort of labels, bottles and packagings. That design became since is creation the signature of Dyptique, still in use today and symbolizing the unisex and hight-quality positioning of the brand.

On a detailed point of view, the type is horribly managed : the letterspaccing is very unequal yielding the informative text surrounding the medallion not easy to read. Also, the composition of fragrance name at the center is not always good thought : the consumers can read « UMGTHEU » for « MUGHET » just in cause of letters layout.
Observed in detail the oval shape on the label is surrounded by informative text. We found the first place of the shop « 34 boulevard saint germain, Paris 5e » and the name of the brand writing an old serif typeface : a sort of Garamond. At the center of the medallion, there is the name of the fragrance « ROSES » in capital letters and composing letter by letter. If the central typeface diverge from one label to an other, he seems manually reproduced. That may be to imitate the first labels created before the invention of computer (letters drew manually) or to give a « naturally » aspect to the brand.

If Diptyque adopted a positioning luxurious, and above all, giving her a « French style » in spite of her acquisition by an American company, the brand stay untouchable developing a lifestyle image. If from the outset, it’ a « zero pub » brand, Diptyque is often quoted on beauty French media and spotlighted by influencers. To make the news, the brand opened pop-up stores who mix her history, creative activities and fragrances sale. Today, she’s well knew for his collection « city » where one candle was created for one city, « NEW YORK » : had perfume of a big apple. The brand a geographic strategy for the consumer who buy his product to say « I was where », always with grace…
Finally, I thought that the imaginary developed by Diptyque through semantic shapes and well thought positioning made the brand like a great empire of the elegant fragrance. In luxury industry it’s appears that the global image and storytelling of the house are more important than typographic details. Recently, the French agency the Graphicants have worked on an exhibition for the brand. Their typographic knowledge have excelled…

The Romantic Glow: Are Luxury Candles Worth a Couple's Romance?
When it comes to setting the mood for a romantic evening, many elements can contribute to creating the perfect atmosphere. Soft music, a cozy setting, and, most importantly, the gentle flicker of candlelight can transform an ordinary evening into a magical experience. But not all candles are created equal. The world of luxury candles offers a range of options that promise not only to light up a room but also to enhance the ambiance with their exquisite fragrances and elegant designs. This begs the question: are luxury candles worth a couple's romance?
The Allure of Luxury Candles
Luxury candles stand out for several reasons, including their quality, craftsmanship, and the sensory experience they offer. These candles often use premium ingredients, including high-quality waxes, essential oils, and intricate wicks, resulting in a cleaner, longer-lasting burn. The scents are carefully curated, offering complex, layered fragrances that can transport users to different places and times, evoking memories and emotions.
Craftsmanship and Quality
The craftsmanship behind luxury candles is a significant factor in their appeal. Brands such as Diptyque, Jo Malone, and Cire Trudon invest considerable time and resources into creating candles that are not only beautiful to look at but also perform exceptionally well. The wax used in these candles is often sourced from sustainable materials, such as soy, beeswax, or coconut, ensuring a clean burn that doesn’t release harmful toxins into the air. The wicks are typically made from natural fibers and are meticulously tested to ensure they burn evenly and consistently.
Exquisite Fragrances
One of the most compelling reasons to invest in luxury candles is the fragrance. Unlike cheaper alternatives that may use synthetic scents, luxury candles often incorporate natural essential oils and expertly blended fragrances. These scents can be sophisticated and multi-dimensional, offering a sensory journey that enhances the romantic atmosphere. For instance, a candle with notes of rose, sandalwood, and amber can create a warm, intimate environment, perfect for a couple's night in.
Aesthetic Appeal
The visual aspect of luxury candles cannot be overlooked. These candles often come in beautifully designed containers, making them a stylish addition to any room. Whether it’s a sleek, minimalist jar or an ornate, hand-blown glass vessel, the aesthetic of a luxury candle can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the setting. This visual appeal is essential in creating a romantic ambiance, as the candle becomes a focal point that enhances the overall experience.
The Role of Candlelight in Romance
Candlelight has long been associated with romance, and for good reason. The soft, flickering light creates a sense of intimacy and warmth, making people feel more connected and relaxed. This effect is partly due to the way candlelight interacts with our senses. The gentle glow can soften the appearance of the room and the people in it, creating a more flattering and inviting environment.
Psychological Impact
The psychological impact of candlelight on romance is significant. The warm light can help reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of calm and well-being. This relaxed state is conducive to intimacy, allowing couples to feel more comfortable and open with each other. Additionally, the act of lighting candles can become a ritual that signals a shift from the everyday hustle to a special, intimate time shared together.
Enhancing the Senses
The combination of the visual appeal of the flickering light and the enchanting fragrances of luxury candles can create a multi-sensory experience that heightens romance. The sense of smell is closely linked to memory and emotion, meaning that a particular scent can evoke fond memories or create new ones associated with love and affection. For example, the smell of vanilla is often associated with warmth and comfort, while floral scents can evoke feelings of passion and love.
Practical Considerations
While the allure of luxury candles is undeniable, it’s essential to consider some practical aspects before investing in them. The cost of these candles can be significantly higher than their standard counterparts, and it’s worth evaluating whether the benefits justify the expense for your specific needs.
Cost vs. Value
The price of luxury candles can range from $30 to several hundred dollars, depending on the brand, size, and complexity of the fragrance. This cost can be a deterrent for some, but it’s crucial to consider the value these candles bring. A high-quality luxury candle can burn longer and cleaner than a cheaper alternative, providing a better overall experience. Moreover, the emotional and sensory benefits can make these candles a worthwhile investment for special occasions or regular romantic rituals.
Longevity and Performance
Luxury candles are designed to burn evenly and last longer than standard candles. This longevity means that even though the initial cost is higher, the candle can provide many hours of enjoyment, making it a cost-effective option in the long run. Additionally, the clean burn of luxury candles ensures that there is minimal soot and smoke, maintaining a pleasant environment without the need for constant cleaning.
Sustainability and Ethics
Many luxury candle brands prioritize sustainability and ethical sourcing of materials. This focus on eco-friendly practices can make luxury candles a more attractive option for environmentally conscious consumers. For example, brands like Le Labo and Byredo use sustainable ingredients and packaging, ensuring that their products have a minimal environmental impact. This commitment to sustainability can add to the overall value of the candles, making them a more responsible choice for those looking to create a romantic ambiance.
Creating a Romantic Atmosphere with Luxury Candles
Integrating luxury candles into your romantic routine can enhance the experience in various ways. Here are some tips on how to make the most of these candles to create a memorable and intimate setting:
Setting the Scene
Choose candles with fragrances that complement each other and the overall mood you want to create. For a romantic dinner, opt for scents like vanilla, jasmine, or sandalwood, which can enhance the dining experience without overpowering the food. For a relaxing bath, lavender or chamomile can promote relaxation and intimacy.
Arrange the candles strategically around the room to create a warm and inviting glow. Placing candles at different heights and distances can add depth and dimension to the lighting, making the space feel more dynamic and intimate.
Incorporating Rituals
Make lighting the candles a part of your romantic ritual. Whether it’s lighting them together before a meal or while drawing a bath, this act can signify the start of your special time together. The ritual of lighting candles can become a shared experience that strengthens your connection and sets the tone for the evening.
Combining with Other Elements
Enhance the candlelit atmosphere by combining the candles with other romantic elements. Soft music, cozy blankets, and a glass of wine can all contribute to creating a memorable and intimate experience. The key is to engage multiple senses, making the experience richer and more immersive.
Conclusion: Are Luxury Candles Worth It?
Ultimately, the worth of luxury candles in a couple's romance depends on the value you place on creating special moments and memories. While the cost of these candles can be higher, the benefits they offer in terms of quality, fragrance, and ambiance can significantly enhance the romantic experience. Luxury candles are not just a source of light; they are a sensory journey that can elevate a simple evening into an unforgettable experience.
Investing in luxury candles can be a meaningful way to show your partner that you value your time together and are willing to create an environment that fosters love and intimacy. Whether it’s for a special occasion or to make regular moments more extraordinary, luxury candles can be a worthwhile addition to your romantic repertoire.
