schottky diode smd - PCB Antenna
A diode is a two-terminal electronic component that allows current to flow in one direction while blocking it in the other direction. It is a semiconductor device made up of a p-type material and an n-type material, which are joined together to form a p-n junction.
Diodes are commonly used in electronic circuits for a variety of purposes, such as rectification (converting AC to DC), voltage regulation, and signal modulation. They are also used in power supply circuits, lighting circuits, and electronic displays.

There's two sides to this semiconductor, and many simultaneous functions
Gallium nitride-based semiconductors have been a boon for high-frequency and power electronics. They've also revolutionized energy-efficient LED lighting. But no semiconductor wafer has been able to do both at the same time efficiently. Now Cornell researchers, in collaboration with a team at the Polish Academy of Sciences, have developed the first dual-sided—or "dualtronic"—chip that combines its photonic and electronic functions simultaneously, an innovation that could shrink the size of functional devices, make them more energy efficient and reduce manufacturing costs. The team's paper, "Using Both Faces of Polar Semiconductor Wafers for Functional Devices," published Sept. 25 in Nature. The co-lead authors are doctoral students Len van Deurzen and Eungkyun Kim.

I saw your addition on the melting metal post, i was wondering how A/C electricity works, and how the energy transfers, is it like a newton’s cradle?
The short answer is that power is transferred in an AC circuit not by redistributing electrons from point A to point B, but by the electromagnetic fields produced by the movement of electrons in general. An electron moving back and forth still produces those fields due to its motion, even if "on average" it doesn't go anywhere.
To be a little more precise, current is defined as the charge crossing through a cross-sectional area per second. If an electron moves forward and backwards through that cross section, there is charge flowing through it, and so there are electronic fields being produced that a device can harness to do things. Many devices (for instance, an incandescent light bulb) don't particularly care if the fields change direction, so long as they exist. For devices that do care about the changing amplitude or direction of the current, we convert AC to DC using a rectifier.
In an intuitive sense, you can think of it kind of like a hand saw. The saw just moves back and forth, so it's not going anywhere "on average". But the cutting is produced by the movement of the saw blade against the material, so it cuts as long as there's movement in either direction.
#this is again something I'm admittedly not as familiar with as one might expect of an electrical engineer#A bit of googling went into this answer#my work focused more on the materials themselves rather that a circuit as a whole#or even individual devices like a diode or transistor#so take my answer with a grain of salt

i don’t want a huge focus in ouro to be on alternate history but also smth fills me w delight upon giving technology the corny ye olden names we had for them. they call matches ‘friction lights’ and lighters ‘wheellocks’
#mine#ouro#considering whether or not they call computers ‘engines’#also diodes/transistors being known as ‘fleming valves’

Maybe I should succumb to the temptation of adding trains and tram network in Hazbin Hell and not care that adding public transport would make it less hellish.
On the similar note, I kinda want to go through with using knowledge about urban planning that I'm getting from uni and redesign Pentagram City. Maybe give it a big open market square in the centre where historically people would bring their wares to sell in temporary stalls. Or add a version of Sukiennice.
Also it would be neat to play around with Kowloon Walled City-adjacent development of Pentagram City, unregulated but kinda organised construction that was constricted from expanding outwards so it grew denser and taller.
Other thing that would be interesting is what vegetables and animals live in Hell and how are they cooked? How human dishes are adapted for local demonic ingredients.
And language! It would be so neat to play around with Hell's writing systems or how languages would shift in such mixed environment like Pride Ring
#hazbin hotel#hazbin hotel au#it's partially related to bc&br so I'm tagging it as au#in rhd owned by the vees there are also some elements of worldbuildy musings of mine#specifically i have this ever present idea that Alastor gets a lot of stuff that he considers fully his on fleamarkets in Hell#he also gets gifts for others from same fleamarkets#and in bc&br Alastor is very into amateur radio stuff including fiddling with wires and diodes and transistors#i shall unleash my worldbuilding nerdery onto anyone willing to read about it#it's really disorganised but i think it's fun?#because one of things i thought about is how there are likely bunch of differend headphones/earphones configurations for different demons#or how Angel's jaws are actually chelicerae hidden in essentially pockets in his cheeks#and they are actually split vertically so he essentially has four “jaws”
