Dinty Doyle is a young Irish captain’s mate on the Belle of Erin, and he makes a brief stop on the uncharted island of Tralee on Christmas Eve to find a Christmas tree for the ship captain.

Old Mag the Hag is a crafty, shapeshifting banshee, her spirit trapped in a pine tree by St. Patrick himself, but once she is accidentally freed by Dinty, she begins her quest to trick the island’s leprechauns into giving her their Christmas gold to prevent her from melting to tears on Christmas morning.

After Dinty becomes the hapless new owner of the leprechauns’ Christmas gold, Mag sets her sights on tricking him into giving the gold to her, disguising herself as a beautiful, shipwrecked young girl named Colleen. Dinty is immediately smitten with her and vows to help her with his newfound gold, dreaming of the happy life they could share once they return to Killarney. However, Dinty is too bewitched by Colleen’s beauty to notice her banshee tears, and Mag’s desperation to stay alive until morning will stand between the chance they have to start a life together in Ireland.
