wanted to do some color-themed oc + otherwise groups… maybe got a little carried away!! 💦💦 I was just making these for fun, but now my brain is all over wondering what they'd be like working together on something. a game show. a social experiment on an island. they have to work together to solve puzzles or fight things and run into each other along the way. you know how it is.

I started thinking about how edward would immediately become the leader of team red, how drew is surrounded by a bunch of ladies with a thirst for violence plus an evil god chicken, how arthur would dedicate himself to protecting his group (and tolerating felix) and how he carries the entire team, how team green has the most argumentative people that are barely being held together, and how team purple is pretty good at getting along and has a comical dynamic considering it contains dez, monster people AND louis. I was gonna say team blue is the obligatory disadvantaged team, but they have the most hilarious family dynamic and are led by the biggest pacifists of everyone here and will probably end up befriending a dragon. also kage is there and he's the weird uncle.

You won’t see this but like I’m been SEARCHING the internet for some backstory on Darkness!Dream and I can’t find anything and you are the creator (atleast that’s what everyone says) so if you do see this do you mind like…explaining it to me? I’m sorry it’s just I’m very curious about this au.

so darkness dream came about back in 2017, basically he started out as this idea where I just like, made dreamtale dream not be Good anymore. the guy gets like super depressed, he neglects basic morals and is like I would rather be with my bestie Forever than like, do whatever his job is, basically like "why do I even help people who don't appreciate it. I am moving back in with my toxic evil bestie," and nightmare encourages it and goes along with it. that's the premise. he lives at nightmare's castle now. they're toxic now. that's the story. I will not link the original posts/story because they, well, are terrible. like, this is 2017 we're talking about. this was before I even started using ao3 as a regular place to put writing.

because the original story is called "darkness is nicer than it seems", the au started being called DINTIS. most of the stories that I wrote featuring darkness dream are not very good in my opinion, and mostly pretty embarrassing lol, but in 2020, I rewrote the backstory on ao3. it's been a long time since I've looked at it, so I don't remember if it's any good. over time they went from being directly connected to dreamtale to being their own au. (that said, back then almost every dreamtale au I made was SUPPOSED to ignore dreamtale Literal Brothers canon even though they were really bad at being clear about that.)

when the two characters got human redesigns in 2019, they were renamed dark (dream) and jet (nightmare) and jet finally got his own unique design. so with the evolution of the characters and the oc-ification of them (sort of???) they pretty much changed into a toxic married couple. in the modern day I'd choose to write them way differently than how they started, but y'know, old characters will be old characters.
