I have 2 questions - bear with me…

As you know, I love your work, but have only just recently started actively engaging with it.

I actually first came across you and your Jester x knight OC’s at least a year or two ago, when a fellow DinLuke shipper tagged it with #dinluke, so it showed up on my feed. If you aren’t into Star Wars and are unfamiliar with it - that’s the romantic pairing between Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Luke Skywalker.

For a while, I actually thought that it was a medieval DinLuke au because there are quite a few fanarts exploring that ship in different universes (including ours) and different timelines, etc.

One of the things that lent credence to this idea was the fact that the king looks so much like the Jedi, Quinlan Vos.

The characters do also closely match the personalities that a lot of the fandom have collectively given Din and Luke on tumblr - like Luke actually being a feral mischievous gremlin underneath his serene Jedi facade, and Din actually being the more composed (and often lovingly exasperated) of the two.

It was a surprise when I looked more into it and realised that they are original characters, completely unrelated to DinLuke and Star Wars as a whole.

So I guess I’m just curious what was the inspiration behind the Jingly Menace and his steadfast, taciturn knight? Was it a song or a meme or just watching a medieval show and during a scene with a jester, you had a sudden burst of creative juices like “Eureka! Pretty jester x hot knight!”

Sorry if you’ve already answered this and I’ve just missed it while scrolling through your page.

My other question (this I know has been queried to JM himself but he nervously evaded the question) when JM is shown crying in one of the first pictures you posted of him, what was the actual reason that you had in mind behind it? Was it just simply because his attempts to get the hot mysterious knights attention had thus far been unsuccessful (from his perspective anyway) and he succumbed to a private moment of vulnerability?

Every time I look at it, I’m dying to know!

Anyway, love you! Hope the JM comic is still on the horizon at some point - coz I would buy and read the crap out of it!

I honestly had no idea what DinLuke is though I've seen the tags. My knowledge of Star Wars comes from whatever I have absorbed against my will being online and when my best friend made me watch the prequels a few years ago 😂

So Jester solely came to be because I've loved jesters for many years at this point. I just find them fun but there's never enough content for them out there so I just wanted to make my own oc. I also just love trickster characters- anything fae like or I always adored Loki in Norse mythology so he's very based into those kind of mischievous vibes and humor.

Augustine was purely accidental. I saw some Tumblr post about a knight or maybe it was about a jester and a knight (I no longer remember) so I thought it would be funny to doodle Jester with a random knight being a menace asking him about his big sword. Augustine was never supposed to be a character. But then I just kept coming up with other ideas for Jester and this random knight whose face he never saw and whelp here we are.

Soooo the crying. It was definitely a private moment no one else was supposed to witness. Part of something I find interesting with playing with Jester's character is the idea that sometimes the seemingly happiest and funniest people are also the saddest but they just cover it up with a smile. His backstory before coming to the castle is still something that affects him but also he feels lonely at court. He constantly craves the validation of attention he didnt really get as a kid and is constantly surrounded by people but also he feels very lonely in court. He is in a strange place of being neither noble but also not quite a commoner/servant. Nobility will look down on him and not take him serious because he's just a silly guy but the servants are wary to get too close because of his close relationship with the king and the fact that he technically has a higher status as Court Jester. He is one of Monty's closest confidantes but his own secrets keep him from being fully honest with his king. It's a strange place of feeling alone in the middle of a crowded court where everyone sees his silly jester persona and make up but no one sees beneath it.

I still hope to make a comic! Just trying to find the time to get all my ideas in order. Thanks for liking my silly guys!

Fae AU headcanons/details for the anon who asked, under the cut bc long

This is nowhere near as coherent as the royalty AU stuff from yesterday, gets even less so as it goes

Din/Mandalorians/Humans in general:

- Winter has been getting longer and longer for the past 28 years or so

- Mandalore was once a prosperous kingdom that was destroyed some years back, its surviving people now live scattered (no Mandalore reunification arc in this story)

- We’re borrowing a bit from the Witcher in that Mandalorians are renowned monster hunters. But people still don’t particularly want them around because they think they attract monsters or something? (they don’t but people are stupid)

- Does not mean Din is an expert on all types of monsters/creatures, most of the time “chop it with a sword” is good enough

- Because he has to ask the Armorer wtf to do with Grogu, the changeling he accidentally took responsibility for

- He has to return it to the Fae and get the child Grogu was swapped for back. Or the human child will be lost forever

- I kind of want to make the Armorer a witch but having her be a blacksmith works perfectly in this AU so :shrug:

- Din feels kind of disconnected from both regular people and his own, he travels on his own a lot. And though he pays tithe back to the covert he isn’t exactly part of their community

- He has a horse named Crest

- Beskar is cold iron

- Before he leaves on his quest to swap the changeling back the Armorer gives him an enchanted beskar chainmail hood that he wears under a regular red cloth hood (think Aq Vetina). So long as it’s pulled up it hides his face. He can’t show his face, give his name, or eat the food while he’s in the faerie courts or he’ll be trapped there forever

Luke/Summer Court/Story in general:

- The Summer Court is almost completely empty, at least of “proper” fae. Lots of minor faeries around but they’re not all exactly...sentient?

- Which means that the Prince of the Summer Court is super lonely and interested in this mysterious hooded human who’s trying to trade a changeling

- No one from the Summer Court has done a changeling recently but Luke doesn’t want him to leave right away so he kind of dances around that so he won’t be so alone

- And later is like “oh well there’s the Solstice Ball coming up so maybe the human kid will be there, the whole Winter Court is coming” (or they’re going to the Winter Court instead...this is not a well fleshed out story)

- Luke also keeps talking about his dead mother and asking Din if he wants to meet her and Din is like “uh....? how?”

- But he’s like “well she’s dead for now but she’ll wake up later”

- “So you mean she’s in an enchanted sleep?”

- “No she’s definitely dead. Here I’ll show you”

- Think like Snow White’s glass coffin meets Padme’s funeral scene. Includes the japoor snippet but only half of it is there HMMMMMM??

- This entire thing is too friggin weird for Din but he doesn’t want to be rude so he’s like “oh...okay...cool?”

- Anyway bad things happened with the Winter Court around the time Luke was born, the Queen died (supposedly temporarily but maybe that’s just what Luke wants to believe????), and now the Summer Court is in decline

- They get to the ball and Leia is there but Luke is like >:( nope, hate you, go away

- Din does not understand this dynamic either, Luke spoke so fondly of his family earlier and isn’t this his sister?

- Something something Luke has to trick Din into sealing himself to the Summer Court because Din does something on accident that would get him killed/imprisoned by the Winter Court and Luke wants to save him

- Din does not appreciate this

Uhhh...any of the rest I have would be spoilers if I ever do flesh it out more

And Luke who is shy and worried about their social difference but can't help but be in love with him.

God, can we have some headcanons about this Victorian Era please?

Oh man, ok, let me think of Victorian Era...so something I like in the theme or Victorian Era is this horror/fantasy element. I've written (though it hasn't been updated in a bit) a Tony/Steve fic of this time as a Dark!Cinderella type thing with a Fae element. That stuff is my jam. But this should be original...so instead this would have LOADS of pining.

Luke is a twice-orphaned poor soul who is very talented with gardening to the point he is hired for the Djarin Estate to tend to the massive gardens that the mysterious lord put in for his young son. He makes everything bloom and get filled with so many colors that the young lord, Grogu, is constantly happy and just wants to be outside whenever he can. He is constantly grinning and follows after Luke like a puppy. The child doesn't speak but Luke can seem to understand him and teaches him all he can about botany and gardening.

Not much is known about the master of the house, lord Din Djarin, only that he showed up one day, with enormous wealth, and a mysterious child, and claimed his right to the estate. He is very selective on who he hires and seems to trust no one.

Luke, however, does notice a man watching out from the windows from time to time, gazing at the work and how his son is doing. Though, recently, Luke has felt the stare on himself often too.

Because of Grogu, they eventually begin to talk. Luke is fascinated and enamored with the handsome and quiet lord. But he keeps that to himself. He's a poor commoner without much talent or looks or personality to ever earn the attention of someone like Lord Djarin.

Yeah, Din is pretty enamored right back. Luke is beautiful and soft and amazing with Grogu. He's made everything around the estate beautiful and seems to always have a pleasant smile on his face.

Din starts to woo the younger man. At first he buys him items for his work, to make things easier...but then he starts to buy him journals and botany books, claiming to help with his interests. Then Luke's garden house he lives in is getting updated and he has amazing sheets and pillows, rich food and sweet bread...then he is earning days off where he can sleep and just spend time with Grogu and Din...then he's getting clothes and jewels and Luke is becoming very confused.

Din confesses his feelings for Luke in the garden. They probably sleep together for the first time there too.

Luke is all flustered and overwhelmed because he isn't anyone--why would a Lord want him?? He tries to pull back, worried that he would damage the man's reputation but Din won't have it. He could care less what others think. He's not dependent on others. He wants to marry Luke, so he will. He does not need permission from some backwards society to do so.

Luke still has a tendency of calling Din Lord Djarin...often times in bed which is something they both like lol

dinluke fanfic i’m thinking about writing: modern fantasy au. non-humans (mermaids, elves, fae, shapeshifters, etc.) are known by humans but are becoming more rare since humans keep killing / imprisoning them. Din is human, Grogu is maybe some type of elf (not set on that i’d have to look up more stuff). Din saves Grogu from evil people ofc, then they hide out along the alaska coast on a house boat where they end up meeting mermaid Luke!

So I'm pretty sure I've seen you tease a vague idea of a hunter/faerie dinluke story before (by pretty sure I mean I've been low-key sending good vibes for it to manifest since I saw it mentioned), and as such I would like to offer up the image of Fae!Skywalker Twins in those matching B&W Loli suits, because other people deserve to be haunted by that visual, too. Because, damn.

I wasn't even thinking of Star Wars when I reblogged that post but damn if that isn't a whole ass mood, anon.

Dunno what's after Crash and Burn, though. If I think about it too much my hyperfixation will shift and I'll never finish the dang story. I also need to figure out where Leia fits into that AU, there are a couple of possibilities...

Hello! I’m intrigued by your idea of Hunter/Fae AU, which reminds me: have you seen no-star-no-war and clanofsuns’ fanarts of Dinluke Fantasy AU? maybe you could mix the idea into your future fic? (Also still waiting for A Closed Book update! Keep up the good work 🙌)

clanofsuns is what got me into Dinluke! (this specifically and the fic linked in its caption) And yes, the fantasy picture with the magic sword is so cool! *_* As is all of no-star-no-war's stuff.

I don't know if I'll write the Fae AU. It's a fun idea but I don't have a full story arc in mind for it whereas the Royalty AU slapped me in the face with an obvious one as soon as it was born. So we'll see!

I'm still working on the update. I know it's late (well...I don't have an announced schedule but it feels late). It's just so close to the end that I want to really nail it, y'know? That slows me down. But it's coming. I'm at 13.5k as of last night, I shoot for 15-20 but honestly whatever in that range that feels like a proper cut off point.

And there's one more chapter after this one! (and then an epilogue). The pacing would be too rushed if I tried to end it on 25 like I originally planned.
