In beauty may I walk All day long may I walk Through the returning seasons may I walk On the trail marked with pollen may I walk With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk With dew about my feet may I walk
With beauty may I walk With beauty before me may I walk With beauty behind me may I walk With beauty above me may I walk With beauty all around me may I walk
In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk It is finished in beauty. It is finished in beauty.
-Dineh 'Walking in Beauty' blessing

Residents of Farmington, New Mexico, recently unveiled a one-of-a-kind sculpture to commemorate an event that happened in 1813. The sculpture, made of locally mined Austinite, is a mynah bird.
The mynah bird, known to be native to the area, is meant to commemorate a brave act of selflessness that changed the history of Farmington forever. The story goes that in 1813, a fierce snowstorm hit Farmington. While many villagers effectively sought shelter from the storm and made it through the night unscathed, one brave mynah bird gave his life to save the members of the tribe when his loud noises served as a warning of the storm's arrival.
The native members of the tribe were said to be so grateful for the mynah bird's sacrifice that they renamed the tribe "Yé'ii'tsoh Dineh Dineh," or Mourners of the Mynah Bird Tribe. Since then, the mynah bird has served as a symbol of self-sacrifice and courage among the community of Farmington.
The installation of the mynah bird sculpture is an important and moving tribute to the bravery of the mynah bird and what he was said to have done for the tribe. The sculpture, designed and crafted by a local artist, serves as a reminder of the selfless act that shaped the history of the community and will remind generations to come of the story of bravery and courage.
This is not the first time that Austinite has been used to commemorate the event. A marker was previously built in homage to the mynah bird, designed and created using the same Austinite as the newly-unveiled sculpture.
The mynah bird sculpture, and the story of bravery and courage it commemorates, is a fascinating part of Farmington's history, and the act of bravery and selflessness it is a powerful reminder to the community of the importance of resilience and courage.

AUTHOR BIO:
Drawing from her years in the Southwest and the Navajo Nation, Jan Payne writes on themes of courage, regret, hope, and restoration in a world of created kinships. Through her characters’ lives and shared dangers—Marin Sinclair, end-of-life doula; Sergeant Justin Blue Eyes of the Navajo Nation Police; Cullen MacPherson, agent for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Garret Washburn, teenaged ward of Marin’s, and Lewis George, Raven spirit-guide-cum-trickster—she takes readers on a journey through the complex interactions of cultural backgrounds and personal histories, highlighting the way kinships forged in crisis have the power to reshape our lives.
Jan Payne lived on the Dineh (Navajo) reservation in Sanostee, on the New Mexico side of the Lukachukai mountain range, where she spent summers climbing mesas, taking camping trips on horseback, exploring ghost towns in the mountains of Colorado, or working with her dad breaking and training horses in Sanostee. Ooooh, how I have missed our talks and time together. Although, the time off may not have been long in actual sense, for me time seem to drag on until well last week! Then I felt the rush of excitement that comes with every beginning of a new season.
Thank you to those returning, it has been a journey especially with all the updates and changes that tend to happen in the current, but not permanent (B’H) climate the world currently is in. Also, thank you to the new subscribers and followers. I do hope you enjoy the new season and whatever stage one is, please remember we all have to start somewhere and whenever in doubt, dismay, or wonder, ask G-d. Most importantly……….
ThankYouHaShem
My G-d, my Creator, my Father, and the True Love of my Life!
Please know that everyone will truly be in our prayers.
And you all are loved and missed.
with love..,

Sometimes you can't
win for losing. My apartment complex (assisted housing) recently dropped its lease with Spectrum to get some other internet, but I chose to keep Spectrum since I like the organization, and my internet and Wifi and landline phone are all connected to it. But when I got my first bill, it was $184.00, which I can hardly afford on my social security, so I called and dropped the entertainment package. It brought my bill down to $115.00, but then I discovered that cut out my TCM (I love the old movies). So I signed up for it again, and that is when I learned that I had basically put me into another entertainment package. Since I like ESPN, I need to keep it. That makes my present costs $157.00.
So today I decided on Spectrum free movies to watch Dark Winds. When I clicked on it, I found out I have to pay for each individual episode. I have not looked to see how much that was going to cost me. I cannot pay for it yet until I get another socsec payment on the 3rd. Oh no!!!!
Anyway, I have to find out how much it will cost me. That is because in reading a write-up about it that it was based on the John Hillerman books, mysteries about the Navajo (Dineh, the Navajo word for The People, and which is how they identify with. I have always adored the Navajo (Dineh), and had the privilege of meeting a few when I was living in Vegas. I have also read almost all of the Hillerman books. I was able to watch a documentary about the series.
The actors who play most of the Navajo police force have facial hair. The Dineh do not have facial hair. So they have had to shave their faces to play Jim Leaphorn, Chee,Dand several other characters. But otherwise, they are true to the characters. Since I have not had a chance to watch any of the 14 episodes (2 seasons so far), I do not yet know how well they follow the books. But they are shooting the series in Navajo Nation, including a lot of shots of Shiprock (Tse bida'ki = The Winged Rock). Their legend has it that the Dineh lived on a lower level of Earth, and were in wars with other Native American tribes, so they climbed up a plants, got up on Tse bida'ki, and flew to New Mexico). It is a sacred monument in Monument. Valley (the part in New Mexico). It represents a big bird, its sacred colours are red, black, white, and yellow, it's rocks are jet, turquoise, and a couple of other stones related to the red, white and yellow - look it up on Google - just type in Shiprock.. Fascinating information.
The actors spoke about having to learn the Navajo language, and they used a lot of the Dineh folks as extras, who speak the language. I once had a dictionary of the Navajo language, but returned it to the organization who have offices on Navajo Nation. It was a rather rare book.
So I will be getting the series Dark Wind as soon as I can afford to pay for it. And have to wonder if I am going to be bringing back the high costs of watching it. I guess I am going to have to stop ordering a lot of stuff from Amazon, although with my scooter having limited places to carry stuff, I buy a lot of my foods from Amazon, which means I get it delivered instead of having to carry it hope from the grocery store.
As I said, you sometimes cannot win for losing.

Monument Valley
Donnerstag 13.4.2023
Tag 24

What are soul needs?
They lie in two realms: nature and creativity.
In these realms lives Na'ashje'ii Asdzaa, Spider Woman,
the great creation spirit of the Dineh.
She gifts her people with protection.
Her purview, among others, is teaching the love of beauty.

[Supplies Needed on Navajo Nation.
Dear friends,
I would like to share the following message from Dr. Sara Jager (who lived in PC while completing her residency at Primary Children’s), now a doctor on the Navajo Nation:
Want to help fight COVID?
I am a doctor on the Navajo reservation in Tuba City, Arizona. We are being hit hard by COVID. We do not have enough gowns, masks, or face shields to protect all of the members of our triage, ER, and inpatient units.
Here is what we need:
1) Homemade face masks - these will be given to coughing patients to containt the spread of the virus among members in the home as well as for use in the ER or other clinic visits. We may also use them over the top of the N95 mask to protect the N95 from contamination.
2) Homemade gowns for hospital personnel. We can send them through Hospital laundering services. This will help protect healthcare workers from the virus. Long sleeve, to the knee. Easily washable, probably cotton.
3) Face shields - people have been making these as well. This protects our eyes from couhging/sputum. These will be worn by healthcare workers seeing patients.
Usually these are single-use items, but we are reusing all of them right now.
Thank you,
Sara Jagar, MD
Lieutenant Commander, USPHS
Deputy Chief Pediatrics
PO Box 2561
Tuba City, AZ 86045]
If anyone has the time/resources/ability to, please help. Otherwise, please reblog to spread message that help is needed.
