Dillon placed a gentle hand across Stacy’s cheek, giving her a look of appreciation and adoration as she tried to console him, making sure that he knew that none of what was happening was his fault at all. It had been said many times before, but he would never not stop saying how big of a deal it was to have Stacy in his life. She was his rock for more reasons than one. He was pretty sure there would be no way that he could get through any of this with his family if it wasn’t for her. He’d be nothing but miserable if it hadn’t been for her coming into his life. Since her, he had finally known true happiness. Which was why it was extra frustrating the way that his family would treat her. Then again, it shouldn’t be all that shocking given the fact that his family has always been particularly awful in general, but still. He wished they’d at least pretend around her. Because Stacy meant a lot to him. He knew deep in his heart, that without her around, he’d be nothing. He gave his wife a quiet nod when she kept insisting that she stay with him. Dillon knew there would be no point in arguing, and frankly, he wanted her there. He just hadn’t wanted to burden her with any of this. “Okay. Okay, we’ll do that,” he answered with a quiet sigh. Turning around, he saw his father being wheeled out on the stretcher to be taken into the ambulance with his mother following close by. After letting out a deeper breath when watching his father being loaded in and the ambulance taking off, he turned back to Stacy and his sister. “We’ll meet you there. Let us know if anything happens, or you know… We’ll be there soon.” Dillon cleared his throat and his sister gave them a nod before she got into her car. Reaching down, he took Stacy’s hand and led her to their own car, opening the door for her. Though, she should probably be the one driving considering how his mind was racing. But he got into the driver seat anyway and started up the car. Clutching the steering wheel, he turned to Stacy. “You told your mom, right? You asked her to stay with Maria?”

Since they’ve been together, and before that too, Dillon had never shied away from being honest with Stacy. There’d always been something about her that caused Dillon to not only feel like he could be his true self around her, but that he could trust her with anything. From the start, he told her things he’d never shared with anyone else. It was how Dillon knew he loved her since the very beginning. So as soon as they were outside, away from the prying ears of his family, he no longer felt the need to hold this facade. He couldn’t deny that he was starting to feel guilty and at fault for what just happened with his father. The timing of it all couldn’t point more towards him being the cause. Aside from his father’s already ailing heart, it was Dillon’s speaking to Albert the way that he had that sent the older man over the edge. If he didn’t make it out of this, Dillon didn’t know what he’d do living with this guilt. And he already knew his family would never let him live this down. Twisting his lips off to the side as Stacy tried to console him, he nodded his head appreciatively knowing that what she was saying was true. Even if he still felt guilty, he knew that she had a point. At the end of the day, it was his father’s own doing for refusing to retire even when his health was deteriorating like this. Dillon just hoped that the son of a bitch actually made it out of this alive. Sighing, he leaned into her as she held him. “I know. I know.” He held onto her a little tighter. “You’re right.” He let out a deeper breath as he pulled back to face her. Stacy taught him what a real family was and it made him realize just how much he hated his own. But no matter how much he may hate them, he also still loved them. It was complicated as families usually are. “I should let James get to me. I should know better. He’s done shit like this ever since we were kids. It’s like it makes him feel better about himself. Or something.” Dillon squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before he heard the sounds of the ambulance. He quickly turned around and rushed over to the paramedics. “Hi, yes. Thank you. My father is in there. He’s in the dining room,” he said, pointing to where the dining room was located. Looking back at his wife, he began to nod before shaking his head. “No, I should—Do you want me to drop you off at home? I don’t want you waiting in the hospital. We don’t… I mean, we don’t really know how long this will take. I don’t really want to make you sit through all that craziness you know. Being in there with my family for how knows how long.”
Stacy wanted to make sure that Dillon knew that none of this was his fault. What happened with his father was coincidence. If it really took Dillon standing up for himself to rile up the old man and cause him to have some sort of issue then maybe he should have retired a long time ago. This was his own doing and nothing could convince Stacy otherwise. It was his fault for riling himself up and being easily angry when it came to his kids wanting something for themselves. “You didn’t do anything wrong,” she said more firmly to her husband, making sure he understood that he was in the right for standing up for himself. Stacy was tired of watching her husband be the family punching bag and she wasn’t going to let it continue happening. No, her husband deserved better than this especially when he was devoting his life to making sure that his father’s legacy continued the way that it did. “No you really shouldn’t let him get to you. James is just jealous. He has nothing going for him. He’s barely even in your father’s company. Everyone knows you’re the most suited to take over. James is a glorified mascot.” It may seem harsh what Stacy was saying but everyone, including James, knew that she wasn’t wrong. James was just a mascot. His father gave him that job to just give him something to do. Following Dillon back into the house, she watched as they tended to Dillon’s father, Stacy then turning to look at her husband as he told her that she should go home and asked if he wanted her to drop her off. The brunette shook her head. “I want to stay with you. We can go home, get what we need and then go to the hospital,” she planned. “I can ask my mom to come over and take care of Maria. I know you want to go and I’m not about to leave you there alone.” Quickly pulling out her phone before Dillon could argue with her, Stacy then started to text her mother, asking her to get a taxi and to immediately go over to their house. Just as they were taking his father out of the house, Stacy then turned to look at Emma. “You guys go ahead. We’ll pack for your mom and dad and go and get our things as well,” she reassured her sister-in-law.
