Hello! Perhaps unsurprisingly if you've been following for a while, this blog is defunct. I had already been slowing down posts due to other stuff going on in my life and then stopped using tumblr entirely when they started censoring sexual content. If you have sent a message that went unanswered, sorry. Tumblr does not label them with the date sent (wild), so I have NO idea how long they've been there and which ones are still relevant. I'll be closing the askbox today. Thanks for reading!

Hi! My niece’s birthday is coming up and I’m trying to find some books/comics/graphic novels for a 13/14 year old baby queer. Do you have any suggestions?
Hiya! Apologies to everyone with unanswered questions in my inbox - I have my fingers in a lot of pies these days and this blog is on semi-hiatus. But I have a few minutes today, it is an awesome time for all-ages queer-positive comics and graphic novels(and I’m actually well-read in them), so I’m going to shout out a few of my favorites!
The Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag (with forthcoming sequel in October!)
The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O’Neill (by the same creator: Princess Princess Ever After, and the forthcoming Aquicorn Cove)
Moonstruck, Volume 1: Magic to Brew by Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle
Lumberjanes, Volume 1: Beware the Kitten Holy by Noelle Stevenson, Shannon Waters, and Brooklyn Allen (there are a lot more volumes of Lumberjanes already out, and they’re all fabulous - plus a chapter book by Mariko Tamaki and a forthcoming standalone graphic novel by Lilah Sturges and polterink!)
If your niece is a Steven Universe fan, there’s also some good comics and graphic novels based on the show. I have not read the Backstagers comics, but I hear great things about them. In young teen/pre-teen friendly prose novels, I can recommend George by Alex Gino.Feel free to reblog with more suggestions, and happy reading y’all!

Hey all! I'm popping in for a quick spell of self-promotion. A short story by me ("What Cheer") is featured in Topside Press's new spec-fic anthology, Meanwhile, Elsewhere: Science Fiction and Fantasy from Transgender Writers! I'm very proud of my part in this book (which would not have been possible without the assistance of two truly amazing editors, Casey Plett and Cat Fitzpatrick) and I'm so excited to see it find its readers. It's got some glowing reviews and features fantastic writers who may be familiar to you, such as Ryka Aoki, Imogen Binnie, Jeanne Thornton, Dane Figueroa Edidi, Trish Salah - plus lots of new voices to discover. You can order it in print now at Topside Press's website! It's also the Progressive Pick of the Week at Truthout, which means you can make a donation and buy a copy of Meanwhile Elsewhere at the same time!

*blows dust off of queerbookclub* uh, hey guys. rough year amIright Anyway, I thought I should pop in and let you all know finalists for the 2017 Lambda Literary Awards were announced today. See the full list here. I think the only one I have read is even this page is white by Vivek Shraya, which was phenomenal and I highly recommend. But it looks like a great list of work overall - congrats to all the finalists!
As for this blog, I’ll try to get back to posting the monthly publishing roundups, at the very least. Thanks for hanging around and, as always, happy reading.

Hello friends,
So, it’s safe to say that this week has been difficult and weighed heavy on many of us.  Yesterday’s news of the spike in trans youth suicide between Monday and Tuesday hit us especially hard.  Trans youth are some of the most vulnerable members of our community and to lose so many, so quickly, has been absolutely devastating and feels almost impossible to come to terms with.
In the wake of these events, we found ourselves wanting to do something, so through this weekend we’re offering a sale on digital PDFs of the Beyond Anthology, with 100% of the proceeds going to Trans Lifeline- a crisis hotline dedicated to helping at-risk trans individuals.
Tumblr media
Using the promo code YOUMATTER at check-out will get you a discounted version of the Beyond Anthology PDF: available for sale here.  And once the sale is done, we will be donating ALL the money we earn to Trans Lifeline.
(If you already have a copy of Beyond, you can donate to Trans Lifeline directly at their website: TransLifeline.org)
Additionally, for any trans youth out there: if you’re sad, if you’re scared, if you’d like a distraction in the form of a queer sci-fi and fantasy comic anthology, please email us at beyondanthology [at] gmail [dot] com and we’ll be happy to give you a PDF copy of the Beyond Anthology for free.  This is a trust and honour system, we can’t possibly ask you to prove or verify yourself, but the whole reason Beyond exists is because it’s the book I wish I’d had when I was also young and scared, so if we can share this with you today, please, please don’t hesitate in contacting us.
Take care of yourselves.  Stay strong, and stay with us.

about If I Was Your Girl it does end happily but some really bad stuff happens in the course of the book so be warned of that if that's a problem (I'm not going to put spoilers in the ask but if anyone wants specific tw you can send me an ask for more details)
Thanks!

Are you familiar with If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo? Amazon recommended it, and it sounds like something I'd like, but I'm not sure how happy or sad the ending is and with the way this year is going, I'm not sure how much I want to read a not happy ending right now.
I have not gotten a chance to read If I Was Your Girl yet, but I hear lovely things. The author, Meredith Russo, said in this interview that she “just wanted a book where good things happen to a trans person,” so I would be very surprised if it had a tragic or sad ending!
