This is a photo of me taken by my friend and edited by me. It is a broken photo, because it has a glitch effect and I have no face. I first chose my photo and opened it in PicsArt. I first took out my face and added a rain picture on top. Then, I colour splashed the picture so only the umbrella and face has colour. Then, I took the photo and opened it on GLTCH. I added a “noise” glitch effect. Then, when I was posting it on tumblr, I added some text.

In this advertisement, the Glitch effect on the text “Google Music” and its pixel font makes it seem “broken” because of the continuous twitching and fluctuation. The Glitch effect added to the overall design makes it seem more malformed as if the picture is about to shatter. Not many effects were used, for the purpose to keep the text and other aspects of the picture legible.
In order to make this Google Music advertisement, I used the app “Canva” and “Giphy”. I first started off by choosing the “Label” template from Canva and picking a background picture, as well as the play button. I then used a banner, provided on the website,  to enhance the slogan, ‘Play anytime, anywhere’. After I liked how it turned out, I download the JPEG and uploaded onto another website, “Giphy”. I then added the text ‘Google Music’ and changed its font to “Pixel”. In the end, I added the “Glitch” filter and saved the GIF. I was very curious to how glitch on advertisements would look like as I don’t see them too often. Thus, I ended up making an ad using a glitch effect.

1. Not Original
What is broken: The numbers on the picture are sliced and displaced a little from where they are supposed to be.
2. Website used: Glitchatron
To make this, I set the Glitch Level to Low, and made the Mask Shape None
What is broken: The picture is sliced into pieces and the slices are misplaced
3. Website used: JPG Glitch
To make this I played a little with the Amount, Seed, Iterations and Quality to get the image
What is broken: There are certain slices where the colours are not what they are supposed to do and there also are slices that are misplaced.
4. Website used: Pixelock
To make this I entered a space bar in the place where you put text at, and just went back and forth a couple of times until I got an image that is not too broken or has too little mistakes of glitches.
What is broken: The picture has a slice at the bottom, and some of its pixels are destroyed
5. Website used: Photomosh.com
To make this I turned on the Rainbow, RGB Shift, Scanlines, InstaColor, and Hue & Saturation
What is broken: It is too colour full and changes colour constantly, and also has a little RGB separation
6. Website used: photomosh.com
To make this gif I turned on the RGB Shift, Glow, Hue & Saturation, and Brightness & Contrast
What is broken: This picture’s RGBs are separated and move on their own, has an unordinary contrast between the bright and dark parts of the picture and the bright parts are unnecessarily bright.
7. Website used: Photomosh.com
To make this I turned on the Slices tool, Melt and Wobble
What is broken: The picture is fluidy and has slices braking it as they move.
8. Website used: Photomosh
To make this I turned on the Jitter, Shake, Scanlines, Glow and Smear
What is broken: It shakes, jitters and has the lines that some old TVs have.
9. Website used: Photomosh.com
To make this I turned on the Slices, Jitter and Shake
What is broken: There is an uncontrolled shake, slices that move down the image and jitter

This is a glitch art video I made with the app glitch art and i originally used a picture or the Massey hall sign that I took when I went to a concert there and then put a filter on it called “so 60’s” I then put a super colourful glitch effect on it call “tv glitch” I think this glitch art video shows brokenness with the colour and with like it says and how I have said in other posts a tv glitch effect and it also looks like the photo is being “chopped” up.

This is an image of the black hole. The colours are shifting nicely, and the jitter animation of this image makes the black hole look like it is about to blow up or something.
I first got the image from the internet and uploaded it into Photomosh. Then i wanted the colour of the black hole yo look more beautiful, so i added hue and saturation to the image. Lastly i added a jitter animation to give the image a slight movement.

This is picture is a scuba diver next to a great white shark. I added a posterize affect to make the image more blurry then it is should be, hue and saturation to give the image very little colour changes to it and then smear to the image to give it the shaking effect that it has.
To make this image I first uploaded the image to photomosh where I first changed the colour by Hue and saturation, then I added the smear affect then the posterize affect to the image.

Glitch Artists— These pieces of artwork are made by British/Colombian artist Matthew Plummer Fernandez. He creates sculpture, software, online interventions, and installations. Often connecting to reflecting and producing on contemporary sociotechnical entanglements with software automation. He is extremely good at and thoroughly enjoys programming and it is vital in most of his art creations. That gives his art a very unique vibe and sets him apart from other artist. My favourite type of art he makes are his 3D sculptures (A series entitled Digital Natives started around 2012) done with depth and bright colouring as shown in the last photo. He has a MA from the Royal College of Art and is currently at Univeristy of London conducting a PhD. I do not have his exact age as I could not find it but as he finished his College in 2009 I would guess late twenties or early thirties.

This is a GIF I made using Glitch Art. The background picture of the buildings is blurry, and there is an animated static glitch on top. The text is different colours and fades in and out of view.
For this GIF I used the TV Glitch effect, and put two layers of text on top in blue and magenta. Then I staggered them and adjusted the duration of time they appeared to make the glitchy text effect.

This image is a glitched out mashup of six different images of Pepe. The colours are random and broken where the images overlap. The sharpness and quality are also decreased when there is more overlap.
I created this image using Net Art Generator. I used “Pepe” as the title and composed six images of this iconic meme. The result was this randomly generated collage.

This is a black and white photo of a girl who looks sad and broken. The reason why this is a broken image is because of the blur and the broken screen on top of the photo.
I first found a photo of this random girl and it was already blurry. I then opened it in PicsArt and changed the FX. Then I opened it in an app called Glitch Art and added a T.V glitch on top.

This is a gif of a breaking heart. The reason the image is broken is because the top half of the gif does not align with the bottom half.
I found a gif of the broken heart using the app, GIPHY and saved it. I then used the app, GLTCH and opened the gif there and put the “sliced” effect.

This is a distorted picture of a mountain and sky with some lyrics over it. This picture is broken because the picture is split into two with a mirror. The picture is also discoloured and blurred. And it has a kind of 3D effect and it looks like it was moved.
I first used the app, glitch photo, to start this edit off. I chose a photo and inserted it to the app and then I added a 3D effect and that also added the discolouration. I then took the image and opened it onto the PicsArt app. I blurred the image and then distorted the image using the mirror effect. Finally, I finished it off by adding a lyric from Post Malone’s song, “I Fall Apart”.

This picture includes RGB shift and a VHS tape effect with static, which makes it seem old and glitchy. In addition, the 3D filter used gives the picture a malfunction style. This picture shows how an old video may seem like on a DVD with the time and date at the bottom left. The glitch shows “brokenness” and appears as if the video is about to get even more distorted due to the static etc.
This is an edit of myself that I created using the android app “Glitch!” I first started off by uploading the photo onto the ‘Glitch!’ app, and choosing the ‘VHS’ filter. I then used the ‘3D’ filter to make the image seem distorted. Lastly, I added the ‘Glitch’ filter. I wanted the picture to look like a part from an old videotape you’d find at home from a long time ago. To give that feel I also added the time and date at the bottom left of the picture.
