Considering the (implied) timeline of Arc 2 (for fic reasons) and... so confused by the pacing of this lore.

Celestia was sunk by the Storm Titan who had been summoned to aide them against the Shadow Web/Shadow Horde. And this is framed as a really ancient event, like centuries ago.

Zafaria happens. We know Morganthe ruled here once and this was where the Council of Light had previously defeated her and buried her Deck of Shadows. If the Wizard completes Blind Whitemane’s side-quests, the blind elder tells the Wizard about these dark times... also implied to be very long ago, so long that the lions, elephants, zebra, and gorillas still lived harmoniously.

And then Avalon kinda throws a wrench in this. Morganthe’s brother is a dishonored knight, and a ghost, so that doesn’t really prove anything, but then we learn that Morganthe was responsible for Artorius turning into the Pendragon. Yet Queen Gwendolyn, presumably of a similar age to Artorius is also still alive and most of the knights who served with Artorius are still around too. So if Morganthe was a young apprentice within their lifetimes, and the people of Avalon are presumably mortal, it can’t possibly have been centuries since Morganthe’s ascension to power, the clash with Celestia, and ruling Zafaria...

The history unveiled about her in Khrysalis also confuses things. Morganthe was a student of Ravenwood recently enough to have fought with Malistaire Drake (and Sylvia is mentioned that might put Morganthe in an even stricter reference of time), and then her banishment. She sought out the astral magic of the Radiant Alcazar in Khrysalis (and tore it apart when they wouldn’t teach her... though I think it’s implied that was a second visit that she returned and destroyed it.) And we see a younger Captain Coleridge with her. We know he’s still alive. Yet the Aracha still make out like it’s been some long, grand century or two serving under Morganthe as the Shadow Queen and awaiting the moment she rewrites the Spiral.

Also, several members of the Council of Light, the same council who defeated her in Zafaria, are still alive in the present day. Some of them aren’t even all that old, like Diego or Emperor Yoshihoto.

(I don’t count Merle’s age in all this because he’s just the Sagely Old Wizard trope and it is impossible to imagine that he was ever young. Merle’s probably immortal.)

EDIT: I just realized I forgot about Azteca in all of this... but I don’t think Azteca added anything to the lore of Morganthe so... not really relevant anyway I suppose.

When you enter the Hall of Ambassadors of the Alcazar of Seville and look at the sky, you find one of the masterpieces of Mudejar Art, the dome. Made of wood, with golden muqarnas, it is supported by pendentives. It was made by Diego Ruiz in 1427.

Hospital Los Venerables

I was on my daily walk and exploring near the Jardines de Murillos and the Alcazar when I stumbled across the Hospital Los Venerables. I remembered seeing this place under the list of places we should visit in Seville that Yani made, so I thought I would check it out.

It is relatively small, empty, and quiet... which is probably why I loved it so much. Upon walking in you are immediately greeted by a small courtyard, which is pictured about. Then you go around to the small chapel they have, also pictured above. I was blown away at how beautiful this chapel was, and is one of the most impressive (and being biased, I think it is the most impressive) chapels in Seville. There is not a blank spot visible, and it is only lit by natural light. I spent a good amount of time here. Following the chapel, I went upstairs where I found a small art exhibit. It was the perfect size to walk through, and all the pieces were so intriguing! Then I walked around the top balcony to end my visit to the Hospital Los Venerables.

Overall, it was a 10/10 experience and I highly recommend visiting. It was quiet, calming, and restorative to visit this place. Coming off a busy street to this oasis, I haven't found anything else like it in Seville.

What I learned: A 17th- century building that once housed retired, elderly, disabled, and poor priests. It is now dedicated to preserving its original appearance and the old styles of Sevillan artistry. It also houses the Diego Velazquez Research Center and Diego's own great works. Diego Velazquez is a famous Sevillan painter and is known for working with other contemporary artists in Seville.

The corregidores of Queen Isabella

Part I

In 15th century Castile, the corregidores provided the link between municipalities and central government. They kept the streets cleaned, secured ramparts, and policed marketplaces. In special instances, they were given judicial authority over civil and criminal cases. Towns had every reason to reject corregidores sent their way: the urban elite did not like royal interference, and the salaries of a corregidor and his clerks could cost up to 20% of local tax revenue.

Of course Isabella of Castile was the first to make successful general use of this official.

In 1419, the Cortes demanded that King John II send his officials only when petitioned. During King Henry IV’s reign, the city of Burgos first expelled one corregidor, then refused to extend the term of another, and when his replacement came, Burgos reduced his salary by half for good measure. Sometimes the corregidores were refused entry at the gates. In Seville, one was almost stoned to death while local officials just watched. Cordoba and Toledo joined the rebellion against King Henry IV because they refused to have corregidores. So when Queen Isabella took the throne, while being threatened by nobles supporting the Portuguese invasion, she swore in the Cortes of 1476 not to send corregidores to certain towns without their petition.

In 1478, 14 years since Seville expelled its last corregidor, Queen Isabella appointed Diego de Merlo as “asistente” but with sweeping powers. He could raise troops when needed. He could sit with an alcalde to pass sentence. Most importantly, Merlo only needed on his side 1/3 of votes (previously 2/3) to settle any issue. Protests erupted at the attempt to dominate local affairs. The queen backtracked for a time, claiming that the administration of justice had been her goal. The year later, Queen Isabella reappointed Merlo using unusually strong language—“as your sovereign, on my will and absolute power.” His tenure was renewed in 1480, and the municipal council promptly dispatched to the court a denunciation of the reappointment which was illegal. She responded sharply, but by the end of the month she forwarded a consoling “we are very pleased” letter. Seville refused to be cajoled and launched a pointless lawsuit. It did not dare to rebel, because Queen Isabella at the time had dislodged powerful noblemen from key positions throughout the city (from the shipyard to the alcazar to outlying towns and fortresses).

The officials of Murcia assailed the queen with petition after petition about not needing a corregidor. The queen curtly told them to be content, and then denied their lawsuit to invoke the two-year term restriction on her official. Carrion and Aranda de Duero petitioned that it shouldn’t pay salaries but were also denied. In 1484, when Carmona claimed that it did not need any outsider, Ferdinand and Isabella made it very clear that it was their will “to have corregidores in all their cities and towns and We do not wish there to be any less in this one.”

In Caceres, the king and queen quietly assailed local autonomy. Reviewing trespasses on royal sheepwalks involved the entregador of the Mesta and “six good men” approved by the town council, who then submitted their investigations to the alcalde for review. It was felt that the local interests were sufficiently protected by the “six good men,” hence the alcalde’s role became mere formality that the Catholic Monarchs transferred to the corregidor. At first no one complained, until the townspeople realized that they had just enabled the collaboration between two different agents of the royal government. The entregadores began to review cases having no connection with them, depriving local judges their income from fines. In essence, using sheep as pretext of all things, the Catholic Monarchs strengthened their authority in very distant municipalities.

Thus the tendency of writers to say that cities cooperated with Queen Isabella cannot be entirely true. The centralization of Spain’s government, or the consolidation of its predecessor medieval state into a modern one, began with Isabella of Castile imposing her will over local interests in a manner more doggedly determined and successful than her predecessors.

Her interference was not always welcome, though.

The water fight is one of my favorite moments & it’s great seeing old characters but these episodes aren’t showing Jasam. They should’ve showed when Jason actually comforts Sam when she wakes up from losing her baby not the last 12 seconds of the ep. or show epi when she was pregnant & they fell in love. Or the train ep they save each other I know it’s only Wed but still. I better see Mexico 09 sexy time!!! Side note I miss Emily

I know it was so cute😩! GH needs to give us those kind of moments more. And not even just for JaSam but all their couples. A better balance of fun/cute/romantic moments with the drama. But yeah the first two episodes showed a total of like 3 minutes of JaSam together and idk why they used those. Upside we’re seeing people like Faith, Zander, Ric, Justus, Emily but still if it’s JaSam week it should have a lot more of them. I would’ve swapped out their first meeting with Jason’s first proposal when he tells Sam he loves her or their first kiss or when she lost her hearing. And definitely would’ve shown the 2nd part of Lila dying instead of that one. The next two episodes are when Jason proposes with the part from his bike and Friday is when they’re married at the Chinese restaurant. I hope with the last of the collections airing next week they’ll give us some old JaSam episodes that maybe we didn’t get this week and I really hope they do more super couple weeks and a week of one family like the Q’s. I miss Emily too😭! I use to have such a big crush on Diego and I wanted to throw stuff at my tv every time he came on yesterday
