How does Chara feel about seeing Flowey? And the realization that it’s Asriel. How do they feel knowing that their plan caused Asriel to become like this. A twisted mirror version of them that’s come to hate monsters where they hated humanity. How do they feel about it.
Guilt. So, so much guilt. From both of them, actually. Asriel idolizes Chara and being Flowey, he still thinks it was his fault that their plan failed (why'd he wimp out? He should've just killed those humans. Idiot). Chara thinks it's their fault for even doing said plan in the first place (foolish foolish foolish I've killed us both).
Now, when Chara woke up after Frisk fell down, it was after dying together with their brother. They likely felt Asriel die. Asriel likely felt Chara die. And suddenly they're reunited, both undead one way or another. And they didn't even know.
The pacifist route wasn't just an epic underground adventure -- It was terrifying to witness firsthand how these monsters were attempting to take Frisk's soul. But didn't they wish for this, like once they wished for Asriel? For monsters to kill humans? Point is, Chara already got these Complicated Feelings long before they even thought of Flowey being Asriel.
But at the same time, the pacifist route was also a healing journey. It was undeniable that they got through it together as a team. Chara felt like they redeemed themselves, somehow, by guiding Frisk who's hellbent in sparing every single monster that tried to kill them. They could find it in them to forgive humans. To give humanity a chance. And by extension -- themselves.
Yet what happened with Asriel can't be undone......... Sikeee. When they discover the truth in True Lab, Chara went through what I'd call the Emotion Tornado. Good ol' guilt is back, horror, denial,...relief, hope? By the time, Chara is already familiar with the 'monsters are now the twisted image of who I had wanted them to be' thing and have partly made peace with what had happened. And the last part's going around in the form of a golden flower.

I DEMAND MORE OF YOUR AU PLEASE INFODUMP :3
Right so in this au the first ending Frisk got was the king papyrus ending, Frisk at the time had 1 goal, get out and get back to Maki, and they killed quite a few monsters in the process some accidental some not.
Frisk beat omega Flowey, left the underground by themselves and made it back to the orphanage. Once there they asked about Maki only for it to be revealed that she had 'died'.
This destroyed Frisk, they didn't really know how to handle it. Then after a couple weeks of just existing they noticed a voicemail on their phone, to was Papyrus.
After listening guilt hit Frisk like a truck, they killed so many people and for what, for someone who was already dead, and in the process hurt the only other people who cared about them. But Frisk realized they could set it right, with renewed determination they reawoke on the flowers.
----
Frisk realized they were nonbinary while in the underground, they didn't realize that it was even a thing before hand. The name Frisk was also one they came up with while down there.
----
Chara will never admit it outloud but the fact that they were only remembered as Asriel's human friend and their name is never mentioned stings, ike they were never actually a part of the family, but they suppose this is fair because it was their plan that killed both of them.
----
After reuniting Maki tried to push Frisk away for a few reasons:
She wasn't sure Frisk was actually their friend from back then cause as far as Maki was aware they died.
Once she realizes Frisk is who they said they were she was worried what the Holy Salvation Society might do to Frisk if they realized Maki cared about them.
Maki felt like she doesn't deserve to be able to know Frisk, due to her being the ultimate assassin and Frisk being the ultimate pacifist. She feels like Frisk would be better off not associating with her.
But don't worry Frisk doesn't give up easily, even if they have to bribe Maki with rice blocks lol.
On another note Maki pushing Frisk away is the main reason Chara dislikes Maki, because Chara saw first hand how much Maki's death effected Frisk. Maki being an assassin only added to that, because now she is potentially a threat to Frisk and their family (In Charas eyes anyway). This feeling starts to fade when they both overhear the conversation Maki has with Shuichi and Kaito about her past.
----
Frisk learned to make monster candy over the years and keeps some on them in their bag, to heal any small cuts, scrapes, or bruises.
----
One idea I have for an interaction is Tsurugi and Frisk talk about anime, Tsurugi mentions an anime she liked about a character who believes in the best in others and how the anime ends in tragedy due to the protag trusting the wrong person, and how Frisk reminds her of the protag and that they should be careful.
Frisk: Maki wouldn't hurt me tho.
Tsumugi: I wasn't talking about Maki, but that's just my plain opinion you don't need to listen to me.
----
Frisk doesn't really understand the ultimate pacifist title, because like even ignoring the fact that they've killed, what makes someone worthy of being called the ultimate pacifist, tons of people go their whole life without killing after all. It's not even like Frisk hates fighting or anything, infact they find sparring to be A lot of fun. Ultimately though they are okay with the title cause atleast they can make a cool pun out of it (Much to Charas dismay).
----
I also have some ideas and plans for chapter 5 but that's a whole other thing lol, also I am currently playing with the idea that the red soul trait means love.

Surely one of the most moronic things I see is how the Undertale fandom is how they defend Toriel, for the simple fact that Asgore killed the 6 "innocent" children, not all of whom were innocent. Some weapons had some very peculiar descriptions, as did the other souls. And also people defend the fact that he wanted to exterminate humanity, but we all know who started this whole war was the human beings themselves, they were the ones who imprisoned the monsters because the monsters had the ability to use their souls and have an immeasurable power, able even to kill countless humans, but not all. Why am I saying this? Well, because of the simple fact that Toriel said that he needed a human soul to go through and get the other souls, she gave a justification saying that if the Asgore really wanted to free his people, and we know very well that the Asgore only declared the war because of a moment of anger, he never really wanted to start a war, but he couldn't really undo this declaration, because the monsters needed to have hope, since if he doesn't they literally fall and then die...
Toriel is just an idiot, and look she considered the head of the throne... another bull, surely if she was the head of the throne she wouldn't have taken such tragic measures without thinking. She simply abandoned her own people and her husband... and she really didn't even care about the monsters anymore, we can see this because she considers all monsters outside the ruins as the Asgore, only less worse, and also she doesn't care much about the monsters in the ruins (apparently). Because you can kill one in front of her and she doesn't even care if you killed it or not, and she considers the monsters in the ruins as "pacifist"... imagine if they weren't, I even wonder why she just appeared out of nowhere at the end of the game. This woman is really an imbecile, and probably nothing but a crazy person who thinks all these children would be something like Chara, considering them as her little "children".
What pisses me off most about the fandom is... bro? Who cares about those kids, simply nobody... fuck the humans of Undertale, they trapped the monsters and killed their kids, I know it was because they didn't know it was happening and what Chara was dying and all... but still, they made the monsters suffer and killed many in the war. What are 7 human souls compared to that? Simply insignificant. You are all just small-headed and moronic, "ain, he killed 6 human souls and blah blah blah". It is not consistent in the situations the monsters were in and caused by the humans themselves. Are you people dumb? Or do you just play dumb? for children who were not really that innocent... and that everyone would go home and surely kill Asgore (since you need a boss soul to be able to get out from underground)
The only mistake Asgore, which is really a mistake was the decision to have given the false hope, but I really don't blame him that much, since after everything happened and he the one who was most hopeless... he suffered the most, probably even more than Sans, after all... it was his responsibility and he was already more destroyed than several monsters... as people called them... "fallen king". And also his "mistake" was his experiments with the monsters themselves, for not investigating and observing as much, as Toriel did after some neutral endings, this was not wrong, since they had consents from the monsters and were trying to save them, and also to try to bring Asriel back and possibly even Chara(?).
Well, that's it... I really don't understand how Toriel thinks and how she wanted him to free his "people" and still in quotes supporting Asgore to take 6 human souls? Probably from people who are not children? Could it be that in her mind, children are totally innocent beings because of Asriel and Chara, even created this madness of monsters and humans living peacefully without this little bickering anymore? Just for two beings that became friends and brothers? Not everyone is like that, and this thinking of hers is pathetic, she is just a hypocrite who puts her mistakes and failures on others, unlike Asgore who knows he is "wrong" and is even reluctant to fight with the player, throwing even some random fire attacks for him not to hit you, he is not even using the souls or trying to kill you for real, he holds back, so much that he still give you a chance to survive with 1 of HP, because he thinks he doesn't deserve mercy...
He is definitely the most complex among the characters. And let's remember that Asgore can remember a little bit about timelines. Since when you told him, he seems to remember a little, but nothing really compared to Sans.
Nevertheless, I still ship them...

@carlyraejepsans weaving us friendship bracelets and dancing around right now. soooo true. FINAGLC is the epitome of flowey mischaracterizations to me. that fic really annoyed me because it mischaracterizes not just flowey in an awful way, but papyrus as well. a lot of people seem very drawn to papyrus as this perfect woobie who needs to be protected by his brother instead of, like. an adult man who happens to be silly.
relatedly, sometimes i regret portraying papyrus as asexual in the holiday party fic, because i recall a friend telling me that they, as an autistic person, really see themselves in papyrus, but portraying him as aro/ace can read like i believe that autistic people cant maintain romantic or intimate relationships. i had good intentions, and its not exactly canon that papyrus is or isnt aro/ace (and i dont think its fair to judge him rejecting frisk as him being not interested in relationships-- they're a child, and he was just playing along w/ them to entertain them, there was never a consideration of them as a plausible partner in any way), but i dont want to rub anyone the wrong way. (there's several things i regret about the holiday party fic, honestly, but im really glad people still find joy in it.)
but anyway, i digress. i was going to say that, in general, i need to be honest-- while i miss getting a huge plethora of gorgeous fan art and remixes every single day, early fandom-era undertale was a bit hellish for me. everyone thought chara was a pure evil devil child and you literally had to use the tag 'soft chara' to talk about chara who ISNT the villain of undertale. im glad that this kind of thing has largely fallen out of favor and people have come to understand chara's role better in the no mercy route.
i remember a lot of fics like FINAGLC getting SUPER popular because people can struggle with media comprehension. sorry. like I remember one majorly popular fic that was all about saving Asriel from Chara's evil grasp and bringing him back post-pacifist that got super popular and people were like "Undertale is incomplete because you can't save Asriel" like. some things cant be undone!!! sometimes you just need to move on!!!! ok? ok <3 (and while i like floweypot AUs quite a bit too, i'll be honest, flowey choosing to stay behind in the underground and not play nice w/ all the monsters he tormented for so long is reflective of the player not being able to see the monsters on the surface either. you need to let them live their lives. you need to let go.)
i wonder if certain aspects of UTY like flowey existing at all in this time period or clover not being able to reset are less of a creative choice and more due to the fact that the game started development in ~2016, and this was before popular theories like narra chara and 'all the human souls could probably reset' and so on came into being. sorry to talk mean about UTY again. i promise i sincerely really do like parts of this game and im glad it exists and i'm impressed w/ the devs for finishing it. but i was thinking about this.
even though i'm talking down about people back in the height of the undertale fandom who didn't understand that flowey isn't evil and chara isn't evil, i will admit that there's most certainly things i didnt understand about undertale until later! everyone learns and grows. with that said, i still really dont like FINAGLC.
i think the thing about not understanding that flowey is an unreliable narrator and you shouldn't take his words at face value is that the first thing he tells you, "down here, it's kill or be killed", is pretty blatantly false. if you disbelieve that, why do you believe this traumatized child is a viciously evil killing machine?

hey it's undertale theory time!
this is heavily thanks to @drundertalescum for giving me brain food with the idea that when toriel mentions how asgore could've crossed the barrier with one soul she wasn't talking about the first of the 6 humans he killed, she was talking about Chara. here's the massive stream of thought that came from that.
what this theory centers around is actually not specifically that, but a question i've had for the 5 years i've been in this fandom, which is Why asgore and toriel decided to have asriel when they did? as we all know boss monsters only age when they have a child, so asgore and toriel having asriel meant that they were going to die sometime after asriel grew up. but why Then? why 1000-ish years after monsters were sealed underground and not any point before or after?
(part 1: the prophecy)
what we know is that at the time the monsters all lived in Home aka what's now the Ruins, sealed behind a door that can't be opened from the outside. this was to protect themselves from any possible human who decided to cross the barrier and kill them all. we also know about the deltarune prophecy, that the Angel, the one who has seen the surface, will make the underground go empty. we Also only know of three monsters who were mentioned to have seen the surface; asgore, toriel, and gerson.
And Another Thing, gerson mentions that lately people have started seeing the prophecy as being about an angel of death who will kill them all. but the thing is, the dude's Old. he's literally older than monsterkind's time underground. "Lately" to him could very easily be within the last few hundred years.
what i'm getting at is, i think the belief was that asgore, toriel, or gerson (or all three) were going to be the angel who would free them, but sometime during their stay in the ruins that belief shifted to the angel being a human who would go into the ruins and kill them all.
what i think happened was, gerson began to age. he's not immortal like asgore and toriel, he wouldn't live forever. i imagine when that realization hit asgore and toriel they had a long talk about the future. if the angel really was about a human who would kill them all, then asgore and toriel staying alive on the basis that maybe they were the angel who would free monsters was just giving them false hope.
they weren't going to do anything drastic, but taking away their own immortality, while giving monsterkind a new ruler without any expectation of freeing them, would mark a new era. for almost a thousand years they had hope that they would be free, but maybe it was better to just accept that this is their permanent home now and make the best of it. yes the prophecy likely said a human was going to kill them all but humans had left them alone for all this time and possibly forgotten all about them, they were behind a door that couldn't even be opened from the outside, staying in Home meant they were safe from humanity.
and then chara fell and everything went upside down.
(part 2: One Soul)
people have theorized that chara and asriel's friendship is the entire reason monsters lost their fear, left the ruins and went to live in the rest of the underground in the first place and i think that's most likely true, but what if before then asgore and toriel had a discussion? after all chara was a child but so was asriel, so was every child living underground, doomed to die without ever seeing the sun. chara was a human with a human soul. would killing chara be worth a chance at freedom?
we don't know if they had that conversation but we know the result; Absolutely Not. it's not worth it. it's not worth it to kill an innocent child for their freedom.
but i think they still saw within chara a chance for monsterkind to live on the surface. after all, toriel and asgore were aging, and when they died their soul would remain long enough for a human to take it and leave the barrier. i think they were hoping this would allow for chara to leave and find souls outside to bring back and break the barrier while a now fully-grown asriel would be able to lead the monsters on the surface to coexist with humanity, using his friendship with chara as an example to all.
of course this didn't end up happening because everything went wrong. monsterkind's hopes for freedom and an era of peace on the surface were all dashed, the prince of monsters was killed by the humans of chara's village, all the wounds from the monster-human war that were thought healed were torn open.
both asgore and toriel were understandably traumatized by this and both their reactions were completely understandable; asgore saw this as evidence that peace with humans was impossible and declared war, toriel saw asgore and monsterkind turning their backs on her children's legacy and decided to leave them behind. but it's what happened afterwards where i think they lost their way.
asgore lost his way because he decided to give monsterkind false hope. you walk through the underground and hear monsters talking about their lives; they're not happy. there are so many problems in the underground and it seems like few people are working to fix them; any time the problems are brought up they're either laughed off or amended with a "but it's ok because soon we will be free".
Tumblr media
toriel also lost her way, by looking at the scenario where the humans went to asgore and fought him, which could only end in either of them dying, and choosing to not intervene.
the pacifist ending results in, among other things, toriel realizing (likely after facing frisk and finding their determination to not kill her) that she was wrong and that she couldn't let this fight happen.
Tumblr media
i used to think this bit of the game was the one part i disliked, bc it didn't make sense for me for toriel to lecture asgore for not taking the first soul that dropped, but it never occurred to me until drundertalescum pointed it out that she very likely was talking about Chara.
toriel came here after realizing it wasn't worth it to let asgore die even if it meant the human could go free. and she reminds asgore what he seemed to have forgot, that it wasn't worth sacrificing anyone for their freedom. it wasn't worth it when the child in question was chara, it's not worth it when the child in question is frisk. and it's especially not worth it when asgore clearly doesn't want to hurt anyone, when he doesn't really want freedom, and is only doing this for a thin veneer of hope for monsterkind.
and asgore, who in the neutral run decides it would be better for him to die and for the human to take his soul, realizes that she's right. that it wasn't right to sacrifice anyone for their freedom, that it wasn't right to keep monsters barely going with this empty tragic "hope", and that it wasn't right to give up his own life even if it meant freeing frisk and through them potentially monsterkind as well.

If the non swap sanses and the swap papyruses actually did their promise of protecting the human, which in this case is a pacifist Frisk/Chara, what do you think would happen? And what I mean by this is they kept with them or nearby all the way to make sure nothing happened.
Undertale/Horrortale Sans - He would have grown way too attached and never let Frisk face Asgore, or even steal a soul in Alphys' lab, teleports them to the Barrier, and pushes them outside. After everything he did to help them, he wouldn't have been able to see all his efforts were just for nothing. In the case of Oak, Horrortale wouldn't have existed since Asgore is still alive (though famine came eventually, but Asgore just took a soul and went to fetch humans himself, which lead to a new war, woops).
Underswap Papyrus - He would have been this young mom scared his kid walking for the first time would kill themselves by falling on their knees. He's not teleporting them straight to the Barrier, but he has this politic of "you're not sparing anybody: you R U N." You are running away from everything and everyone, including Blue, Alphys and Undyne. He doesn't want a scratch on them. Then, when he arrived in front of Toriel, he just... run through her legs and straight to the Barrier, and didn't think he has a human soul with him and just crossed the barrier with the kid. Welp. Now what. 'cause, you know, his friends and his brother are still inside and stuff. He didn't think that far unfortunately.
Underfell Sans - So, at first, he followed you just to make sure you will reach Asgore and that when he kills you, all the glory goes back to his brother who tried to stop you first. Edge was actually supposed to capture you, and then with him, you would have go to the capital. But then Edge spared you? And Undyne???? And Alphys??????? And he has no idea why he's following you anymore? Are you tricking monsters into liking you? Is it working on him? Oh shit, it's working. When he sees Asgore close to kill you, he has to intervene, despite how stupid it is with his 3 HP. But then instead of running you fight to save him?????? Once Asgore and Asriel are defeated, he's so done with life. He needs therapy and someone to answer his existential doubts.
Swapfell Papyrus - Rus was about to leave you to die after you fight his brother, but then you were hungry and you had nuggets left in your backpack. And you give him one to thank him for his protection in Snowdin. Rus thought you wanted to poison him at first, so he ate gladly, but then... his mind goes KABOOM. He wants more. He needs more. He only knows you and your chicken mc nuggets for ten seconds, but if something happens to you, he will kill anyone in the Underground and then himself. You have nothing to worry about. He will protect you. He needs to reach the Surface. He can't live any longer in a world without chicken mcnuggets.
Outertale Sans - That would have gone very wrong. Moon loves challenges, and walking is boring, so he proposes you to go faster by flying. He was so excited when you said yes that he lost control of his power. Good news, you're out of the monster system. Bad news, you're stuck in space and you have one hour of oxygen left. You knew you should have go with Papyrus, he was your favorite. Toriel will be very mad at Sans once all monsterkind manages to drag him back.

My Outertale Headcanons
The Monsters of Outertale are happier than the ones in Undertale(or other AUs).
And not being able to see stars was one of the things that made the people of the underground feel so trapped.
I also think the planet that the Monsters are on is bigger than the Underground.
(Let´s call the Planet "Andromeda")
Thanks to Lost Star (Outertale Gaster) the monster are capable to produce food.
All the Monsters are interested in exploring the space.
They are not really trapped on their planet. They are just not allowed to get near the earth.
The Royal Guard all have laser swords as weapons.
Nebula (Outertale Frisk) also uses a laser sword instead of a stick or knife.
Nebula(Frisk) and Celestial (Chara) are the only humans that were ever on this planet.
Which mean the seven souls were not collected.
Celestial and Nebula are 20/21 years old.
The time in space and the time on Earth works different.
I already headcanon that in Undertale the Monster age different than humans, and now we also have the time difference. So each of the Monsters might be much older than in Undertale.
Both Nebula and Celestial are Astronauts who went to explore the galaxy.
And both of them crash on Andromeda.
Celestial is not a Dreemurr since they are already a grown up and was not adopted by the Dreemurrs.
But they are still pretty close to the Dreemurrs.
They and Astral(Asriel) are very good friends.
Both of them were very interested in science and dreamed about exploring the space.
Just like the rest of the Monsters.
Lost Star and his son Comet and Pluto (Sans and Papyrus) were working on making a rocket.
Lost Star was the first one that succeeded to build one.
He went to test flight with the rocket and never returned.
The Monster King Jupiter forbid to continue working on anything that has to do with rockets.
Comet and Pluto wanting to find their father refused to listen to him, and continued to work on a Rocket
Celestial and Astral found their finished Rocket and without thinking get on it.
They and the rocket disappeared in space and never returned...just like the lost star.
Comet and Pluto blamed themselves for it and promised the King and Queen to never ever build a rocket.
Jupiter and Saturn (Toriel) forgave them, but they and the skeleton bros still have a very tensed relationship.
So, when Nebula crashed on Andromeda and found out about what happened, they wanted to help to find Lost Star, Celestial and Astral.
The King rejected her help at first, as he didn't want any more people to get lost in space.
But after some time they managed to convince him. (To be fair, it was much easier to convince him than Saturn, who immediately became something like an overprotective mother figure to Nebula)
So, basically Nebula, Comet and Pluto are building another ship this time with the help of the scientist Alphys (I don´t have an Outertale name for her yet) and her creations and assistances supernova (Mettaton) and pulsar (Napstablook).
And they are now on their way to find the lost souls.
Everyone is fighting with laser swords because I said so, and this is canon and everyone who says otherwise is wrong.
I still don´t have any role for Neptune(Undyne) and Flowey probably doesn´t exist (He´ll be probably some sort of alien or space pirate that is going to any them or something IDK).
I just think that Outertale is the most underrated AU which has so much potential. Not only that, but I always thought that Outertale simply being Undertale but in space kind of BS because you tell me that seven children somehow crashed on their planet?
You also want to tell me that you have so much freedom to turn Outertale into a real space adventure AU with a lot of Star Wars references and a lot of cool Sci-fi features, but no one decided to do it???

Day 3 : Sleeping
Being a ghost, Chara slept most of their death.
They still were partially conscious of what was happening around them, but they were still deep asleep.
Until they were awoken, of course.
They were awoken by a strong soul of determination falling on their flower grave.
The human was in blue clothes with pink stripes, had medium length hair and was wearing a blue bracelet.
Chara was confused when they saw the human and followed behind them without making a sound.
Chara then saw their mother Toriel greet the human in the Underground.
They felt uncomfortable at Toriel proposing to be the human's caretaker, but attributed it to them feeling insecure at being replaced and moved on.
"Say, my child, what is your name ?" she asked with a sweet smile.
"I'm Frisk, miss Toriel." the human said, before gesturing to their blue bracelet. "I'm a boy."
Chara continued to follow the human in silence, until Toriel left Frisk alone; that's when he spoke to them.
He looked at them, dead in the eyes, and spoke clearly at their intention.
"Hey, are you a ghost ?" he asked, curiosity pouring from his voice.
"I... Wha- ?" Chara spat, surprised. "You can see me ?"
"Of course, am I not supposed to ?" he asked, arching an eyebrow.
Chara didn't say anything, still in shock at the human being able to see them.
Frisk seemed to not want to continue the conversation further anyway or didn't want to speak at the moment because he went back to his exploration of the Ruins, and Chara followed quietly after him.
They sometimes helped him when he seemed to have trouble befriending monsters, but they tried to not talk too much since the human didn't say a word back.
Tumblr media
Frisk and Chara eventually arrived to Home, when Toriel had cooked a pie for Frisk's arrival.
It was quite late however, so she let Frisk go to Asriel's old room and said she'd call the human when it was morning.
Frisk went immediately to sleep, leaving Chara alone with their thoughts.
Because as it turned out, Chara couldn't fall asleep; now they were awoken, and they had to deal with it.
They waited, thinking about what life in the Underground could be now, making hypotheses on why their dad wasn't there and looking at the bored slice of pie on the floor.
"Hey, did you stay here all this time ?" the human suddenly asked, apparently now awake. "Didn't you sleep ?"
"...No, I can't." they answered, bored. "I'm a ghost."
"Well, what's your name ?" he asked, clearly curious.
"I'm Chara." they answered awkwardly.
Frisk was searching in his pocket while they were speaking, fidgeting with what seemed to be two bracelets until he successfully demangeled them and took the pink one.
"What's your gender ?" Frisk asked before proudly showing Chara the pink bracelet. "Me, I'm a girl today !"
"I... Well, I'm not really a girl, I prefer they/them pronouns, but I'm OK being called one..." they awkwardly explained, unsure of themselves.
"Are you Toriel's child ?" she asked, with a smile.
"I... How did you know ?" they questioned, dumbfounded.
"She called me 'my child' by default and she has a spare child's bedroom, I figured those were linked." she said proudly.
Chara nodded without saying anything, they thought it'd be better than say that this was their brother's bedroom and that he also was dead as a child; they didn't want to scare that poor girl or anything, they didn't even know why she fell, maybe she had trauma.
"Well aren't you cunning, making friends in the Ruins without saying a word and now guessing my identity." they said with a smile.
"Oh, yeah..." she said quietly, embarrassed. "Sorry about that, I go non-verbal sometimes."
Their conversation was cut short by Toriel knocking on the door, but Chara still felt like it brought them something.
They had been awoken from their eternal sleep, true, but that human seemed to be really nice and maybe they would end up friends.
Maybe, being awake wasn't so bad.

Toriel: are you alright? You haven't tried getting out of bed today...
Chara, sad: I feel like I'm sick, even though I'm perfectly fine
Toriel, concerned: what's ailing you?
Chara: Asriel apologized to me yesterday for something he did a long time ago, and I've been thinking about things I did wrong.
Toriel: like what?
Chara: when... when I was a ghost I made a deal with Frisk, giving me ownership of their soul... why when Asriel and I were resurrected, I got most of Frisk's soul.
Chara: and then after that, I had to be restrained by Undyne when Alphys was treating us so that our souls would be proper and not just fractions of souls, because I tried strangling Frisk
Toriel, petting Chara's head: It's alright
Chara: but... what I did was horrible
Toriel: I'm not saying what you did was good, but what I am saying is that it doesn't define you now.
Toriel: Chara, when you first left us, Asgore was enraged, he wanted to see the fall of humans. What Asgore wanted was Hope through Violence. I hated that, but I'd lie if I said I wasn't a hypocrite
Chara: what... do you mean?
Toriel: well, I deserted the thrown to leave it to Asgore's quick decision making skills. He rarely thought things over and usually did things in the heat of the moment, and after that, I had a huge grudge against monsters, I thought of all monsters being... monsters. When humans fell down, I was quite the bully to the weaker monsters, and I didn't only fight Frisk just to try influencing them with violence to stay in the ruins.
Chara: why?
Toriel: I found hope in those children, the same hope I found in you when you first came into the underground, so I was rough and violent when I thought someone would be harming them or if I thought they'd harm themselves by being brave and independent out there. I was being absolutely horrible to everyone around me.
Chara: admitting to your own sins doesn't stop me from feeling bad
Toriel: I'm not trying to stop you from feeling bad, I'm trying to help you feel better in the long run. To let you know that even if you acted terribly, you are still worth love
Chara, hugging Toriel: thanks mom
Toriel, hugging back: thank you, my child.

I would prompt you something from a different fandom, but... I can't stop thinking about undertale. Maybe a headcanon of Undertale? -morethanithoughtofficialblog
Headcanon, hmmm... Since you didn't specify, I'll assume you meant my own headcanon!
HC: The in-story reset ability comes from determination PLUS a magical environment, and Chara, a determined little fucker themself, had said power. Also monsters and gender, Chara being an enby from the modern age (that's canon but shhh), and a few other little things about their time in the Underground.
Title: My Best Friend
A few things struck them down here in the Underground. At first, it was things like, "Holy crap! I'm alive!" and "Wait, no, I'm dead, and this is hell," followed by, "No, it's heaven, but none of this is real." The striking realizations eventually settled into an awed "Wow, this has been here the whole time," but they were quite comfortable with an agnostic approach to the reality of the situation at that point. The Underground had chocolate, and it tasted real enough, so what did it matter?
But those were the abstract thoughts. It struck them, at first, that these monsters must not have ever seen a human before. The big fuzzy goat things that took them in (they weren't sure why at first) never talked about them with gendered terms. It wasn't like they were physically androgynous; no one on the surface outside the internet ever used the right pronouns. These monsters must not have had any reference for whether they were masculine or feminine. Right?
But then it struck them, as Toriel placed a snail-free miniature meatloaf in front of them, reminiscing about how most humans she'd known never liked snail, that this wasn't true. For Asgore and Toriel, at least, male and female humans were old friends they'd never see again.
When Chara asked how they knew, Asriel laughed shyly at the question. Did humans not just know each other's gender? That's weird. You're weird.
You're weird! they yapped, and pushed him off the couch. He looked hurt, but then started giggling when he saw their red-faced grin.
Another thing that struck them was that this family, the Dreemurs, actually wanted them around. They assumed for a while that they wanted to eat them, then sell them, then find a foster home elsewhere in the Underground. After all, this was the king and queen. What business did they have adopting a child?
But no, the Dreemurs seemed to really like them. Though the monsters working around the castle kept their distance, Chara was welcomed and given the same love by their new guardians that they gave Asriel, and Asriel...
Asriel genuinely liked them. Asriel looked up to them. He was excited to show them around the castle—which was enormous by the way—and his games and his toys and old family photos. It didn't take long for him to get more invested in what they had to say; he loved their ideas, their games and their stories about what the surface was like.
Only two genders? Asriel looked astounded. What happened to people like you?
Chara sneered. They hated people like me.
Oh.
One day, the two of them were running through the halls, a part of the castle the human had never been before, and Chara stopped by a window overlooking New Home. They had never seen New Home before; most sides of the massive castle were either bare rock or some part of the royal grounds. Sure, a few monsters lived there, but they all worked for the king and queen.
New Home proper was... not as big as they thought, but it was certainly bustling. Monsters of all shapes and sizes moved through the narrow streets, shouting and laughing and making general disruptions of themselves. It seemed, all in all, that the space didn't quite fit the population. But it was more than Chara had seen in the weeks they'd been down here.
Asriel stopped a few meters down. "What are you...? Oh! You haven't seen New Home yet, have you?"
Chara shook their head. Asriel came up close and started babbling about the kinds of monsters who lived there, how Dad was planning to expand the caves to make room for future growth.
They weren't listening that hard. They saw a gust of hot wind, the kind of heat that distorts the air, drift by outside.
They opened the window.
"Wh-what are you doing? Hey, Chara, d—don't climb out there, it's dangerous! Chara!"
They turned back, one foot on the roof and the other on the windowsill, with a grin. "What, do you care about me?"
Asriel's eyes went wide. Sniffling, he whispered, "Yes."
Chara loosened their grip on the windowsill for a moment. Just a moment. "Pff, don't be a crybaby," they scoffed, and climbed out on the roof.
It was a slanted roof with cool shingles. The heat in the air wasn't unbearable, but there was something hot somewhere.
"Oh, we're close to Hotland," said Asriel. His foot slipped, and he fell on his butt. They laughed and sat down next to him. "There's lava there."
If course there was. It wasn't lost on Chara that Asriel's name was just a mix between Asgore and Toriel. Monsters had weird ideas for names.
The human made a habit of going out on that part of the roof. It felt daring, and isolated, and just... comfortable.
They could be alone for a while.
They could think.
What they thought of doesn't matter. It's not really your business to know. Needless to say, they needed the alone time.
And then, one day, they fell.
All the feelings of that minute they were in the air, the moment of impact, the castle spire puncturing their chest and the brief instance before their limbs collided with the slanted surface of the roof there, when their spine shattered, their heart stopped, their vision blackened from the pain before their life went dark—
It can't be wholly described.
You probably shouldn't want me to describe it.
Another thing that's difficult to describe is what they experienced next. They felt, in the darkness, an offer to return.
Go back.
In their shock, they hesitated. They thought. They realized.
They'd died.
But they could go back.
So they did.
The second time around, it struck them that all the cues they'd taken from the Dreemurs had been misread the first time. Asriel had always been excited to meet them; Toriel and Asgore had always cared.
It struck them also that nothing changed. It all happened again. The butterfly effect didn't seem to be in effect here. No matter what they did, very little changed overall. They could change one thing, but that never seem to affect the world around them. It was like a script that everyone was following.
So... Chara liked video games.
They missed video games. They mostly liked really difficult ones with secret storylines. Some indie games had come out in the past few years that they really liked, and they often used multiple saves to find out all the different pathways and dialogue options.
They were hesitant to call this a game. But it felt familiar.
They wondered...
What if they could save?
_______
Okie I wanted that to go further, had some thoughts, but then I realized whOOPS that would be kinda long, so here's your implication that Chara maybe abused the reset ability a bit.
That definitely got it out of my system. Might have rushed the end.

i am very confused about your Chara theory. So your theory is that Chara wanted to help the monsters, but the only way to do that, was to make the monsters angry enough at humans again to restart the war. And did they care about Asriel and Asgore? And you said Chara isn't controlling Frisk. But then who is the demon at the end who says are you really the one in the control. Did a demon possess Chara or take Chara's form?
I think you’re giving chara like…. a little too much credit, and you’re also calling this a ‘theory’ which like, lmao, have you seen my blog? I’m out of the theory realm and into the ‘what sounds cool’ place; that’s how i decided maybe gaster the man who speaks in hands would be cool as a) a dog b) a guy WITHOUT hands c) just a giant asshole?????? with nothing special about his hands but he makes a MEAN soup d) gay
So this is just what I think would make an interesting Chara. Chara is ultimately OUR INTERPRETATION OF OURSELVES THE PLAYER and also our combination of the game. Same as how Frisk’s story is always going to be different depending on who is playing them. That’s why my frisk is a violent little shit.
My Frisk interpretation (not theory) is that they went through, hurt people, figured it didn’t matter if they killed since they’d already fucked up so much, Realized in the hall with Sans due to Sans’ compassion, and killed Flowey despite it all. The next time, they did better. They couldn’t wait to do it over again. They slammed that fucking button.
That is my interpretation of Frisk. That’s the kinda Frisk that’s an interesting character to me. No one is gonna say ‘canon’ backs that up bc they’ll be like “ooohhhhh No Mercy route!!!” but like no i didn't’ do that, it’s not part of my interpretation, I was the sick person who watched from the sidelines byyyyeeeeeeeeee
Much like Frisk, what I’ve got going here is an interpretation of Chara.
And I think Chara is a… kid.
A pretty messed up kid. And definitely not a mastermind. Definitely not able to understand the scale and political and social ramifications of everything they do. And they didn’t MAKE the monsters want to start a war with the humans–they wanted to break the barrier and clear the surface for monsters themselves!
Obviously, as a child, Chara does not actually understand what wiping out all human life on earth would entail. They have literally no idea how physical many ‘a thousand’ is, much less ‘eight billion.’ They don’t have a fucking battle plan drawn up?? How are they going to take down nations’ militaries?? The concept of DEATH is probably something that’s not fully in their grasp, tbh, considering their entire plan was like “Oh, yeah, okay, I’m gonna die but I’ll still be here so it’s cool” like that is not what death means and so much could’ve gone wrong.
But if Chara delivered them a fresh, green, uninhabited earth without humans, then like? The monsters WOULDN’T have to fight, and they’re so much better than those shitty shitty humans, so it’s not like we’re losing anything. Killing’s a lot easier when you’re young and malleable, especially when you’re already exposed to trauma and can detach yourself from others–like, for example, as a species.
And like… why would they do any of that if they didn’t care, you know? Like. What would the point of killing themselves be. If they hated monsters or didn’t care about life, why go back to the surface to try and kill someone? They have a whole kingdom to murder down here! Like!
Even if it was terribly misguided, what would the point be if they didn’t care? They would just go on a murder spree in the underground.
Like people insist they do in the No Mercy route.
But let’s get one thing straight:
YOU are in control of the No Mercy route.
Not Chara. Not Frisk. The game is aware of the puppeteer. FULLY aware. And YOU are always and have always been ‘Chara’, the fallen child. This is why it is recommended you play with your own name. The demon simply mirrors yourself back to you.
It shows you what you have become.
You will only go to the next game and kill the inhabitants of those worlds, too.
And I’m betting that’s exactly what most people did. The ‘next world’ isn’t an alternate universe Undertale– it’s ALL VIDEOGAMES. The multiverse theory doesn’t have one set section of cast members with all our names on it. It’s got a universe where there is a Sans the skeleton standing by a hotdog stand, and a Sans the skeleton standing BEHIND a hotdog stand, and it has a Sora with his dog dad and hot-headed duck uncle who is killing Entropy as best he can ok. And for every Sora with a big key there is a pair of living cups striking a deal with the devil, and a cat dropping out of college to witness a murder in her hometown, and a guy in a helmet touching down on an alien planet and shooting everybody.
Multiverse needs no constants, and the ‘Anomaly’ was not an anomaly by jumping multiverse timelines, it was an Anomaly because it was REROUTING timelines–all timelines happened. ALL OF THEM HAPPENED. All of them in one single universe. That was the anomaly. The fact that time seemed to copy and paste itself forward, rather than simply progressing.
After all, when you reset, your play time doesn’t go down.
Like…
That’s what it means when “it’s always been you in control.”
We don’t have to do these things.
All these characters can do is plead with us to be kind.
Except Chara.
We NEVER hear Chara’s perspective in this game. It’s ALL about Chara. But we never hear their perspective. It’s always translated through another character, or we’re told about them in anecdotes and stories, but we never can ask Chara ourselves what was really going on. Because Chara is dead. Because Chara is a dead kid and never gets to speak for themselves. Because Chara is what we were, starting this game, willing to go out on a murder spree to attain our objective of freeing the main characters.
So what Chara is is a dead child, who wasn’t old enough to understand consequences or grasp the full scope of what they’re doing, and who convinced their adoptive sibling to join them in a march towards failure.
And that’s not Chara’s fault.
All it is is tragedy.

Numinetale Chapter 6
VI looked at her now permanently skeletal hand. She knew she should be upset, but she was not. She looked up at where the Underground ceiling used to be. She successfully completed the banishment. The Underground is now in the Void.
Tumblr media
“why do you look like that?” VI looked at the glitchy skeleton. Curious about why he cared, especially when she doesn't. “what happened to you?”
“Why do you care about your enemy? I sacrificed my SOUL to banished the Underground to the Void.” VI raised her hands, “By sacrificing my SOUL I also sacrificed my human appearance.”
Error's eye sockets widen. Then he teleported. Where he went VI didn't care.
***
“okay okay. Let's regroup back to snowden.” Sans was hoping that VI have seceded in distracting Error by having him chasing her to the farthest area from the main exit. That would be either Snowden or the Ruins. He grabbed the two humans as Gaster grabbed Asriel and Papyrus.
They teleported to the edge of Snowden. “BROTHER. DR. GASTER. WERE WE TO TELEPORT INTO SNOWDEN?” Papyrus was unsettled about something. And it wasn't the teleporting sickness. He felt that something was wrong. He can feel it in his bo-... His inter body.
“I think there is a barrier that prevented us from teleporting into the town.” Gaster walked into the townline. “Interesting… it looks like we can walk in but can't use any shortcuts.” Gaster teleported two feet farther into town then teleported out of the townline. “Fascinating! We can teleport in the town and out of town, but we can't teleport into town from the outside.”
“hey old friend. i am just as curious about what prevented us from using our shortcuts to get into snowden, but vi is in there with answers to our questions.” Sans walked through the townline and teleported to his old house with a kid in each hand. Gaster followed with Papyrus and the prince.
There, in front of their old house, sat a bored looking skeleton woman. When she looked up and saw them, her bored face turned to murderous rage. “What are you idiots doing here? You were supposed to be ON. THE. FUCKING. SURFACE.”
“LANGUAGE, MS. VI! MY BROTHER, GASTER, AND I FOLLOWED THE CHILDREN HERE.” Papyrus stomped over to the female skeleton. “AND THEY WANTED TO SAVE YOU.” He lowered his voice and grabbed VI's hands into his. “You are our friend and the children didn't wanted to abandoned you. There is something wrong with you. I can sense it, but you are still good. Even if something happened to you, you are still good and our friend.”
“Papyrus? I wish I can say that I am sorry, but I am not. I am Soulless. I sacrificed my SOUL to stop Error.” VI stepped aside from the skeleton's door to their old house. “Even though I have not feelings, I still have common sense. The children can get sick if they don't get out of the cold.”
They entered the house only to stop on their tracks. The ruined house looks… New! “how?” Sans looked at the lady skeleton. “how is this possible?”
“I hope you didn't mind. I wasn't going to live here without Rewinding Time on your house. I even fixed the machine in the lab to make a mini core. Powered by the SOULS that I collected using Red Electric.” VI lead the children to the couch wrapped them up in a thick warm blanket, “Now. How would you three like some hot chocolate? How would like it?”
Frisk said they will have it with marshmallow, Asriel wanted his with whip cream, and Chara wanted theirs plain but with thick extra cocoa. She spread the Skater-Samobranka on the table. She clapped her hands and three cups of steaming hot chocolate appeared on the tablecloth with two cups of golden flower tea, a cup of coffee and a glass of water.
“What do we do now?” Gaster asked as he and VI sipped their tea. Papyrus downed his water and placed it back on the tablecloth only for the glass to refill itself. Sans on the other hand was warming his phalanges with his coffee cup and stared at the steam before taking a sip himself.
“I have to make a new SOUL using Purple Keys. The ingredients will be hard to find. I need six Judge SOULS, an Void Dragon SOUL, and an Arch Mage SOUL.” VI let out a sigh, “We have two Judges at least. You and Sans. We are in the Void so finding SOUL particles of a Void Dragon might not take as long. It would be the Arch Mage SOUL that would be near impossible to find.”
“These are the ingredients for your SOUL?” Gaster's eyes sockets widen with curiosity. “Are there even any Void Dragons left? I mean, even before I fell into the Core I could only find the skulls of the Dragons which I used to make the Gaster Blasters.”
“Even in death there will be figments of SOUL particles.” VI went outside and turned into a skeleton version of her Red Electric. She then played on her guitar. A look of surprise flashed through her face. How was she gathering so many SOULS? Most of them was human SOULS and small handfuls of Monster SOULS.
Rune appeared, “Alphys is calling. Alphys is calling.”
VI demanded the robot to answer. A hologram screen appeared with a nervous Alphys on the other side. “O-oh! I-it wo-works! VI. Y-you m-might not be-believe this. B-but RUNE is still recording! E-everyone h-here have been watching y-you guys for over an h-hour.”
“amazing. alphy? if my hypothesis is correct then the constant live feed is preventing us from being forgotten.” Sans scratched his skull with a comb. “There is also a possibility that the gathered SOUL Particles are from the humans watching this.”
This was interesting. But VI noticed something off about some of the gathered SOULS. “Guys? I think something is fishy here. RUNE report any rips that lead to the UnderVoid.”
“There are multiple rips in the UnderVoid that leads here.”
Shit.
***
Shit. That woman is as powerful as she is crazy. Sacrificing her own SOUL just to trapped him? The girl has moxi that was for sure. But how to get out? Error found that knitting was a good way to think. He sat at the edge that used to be the main exit out of the Underground. He tried to get out earlier but found he couldn't, just like when he first found himself in the Anti Void.
A ripping sound was heard behind him. He turned to find there was a rip in the space behind him. Another abomination? He readied himself to attack whatever comes out.
But when slimy black tentacles followed by a skeleton covered by black ooze. Error smiled. “Hey Boss. How did ya get here?”
Nightmare looked around, “Error? I see you came here before us.”
“Us?” Error smiled at the realization that they wasn't alone.
***
Danm. The Nightmare Squad is here. Most like straight out of the castle in 6T!OR@Vincent-Endethyst that Nightmare uses as headquarters. VI glared at the hologram screens of all rips that RUNE located. This will be a pain.
Gaster on the other hand was staring at another screen. “Lady VI. Forgive me but there is something I most do.” he teleported out.
VI didn't care where Gaster disappeared to. But as a courtesy, she looked at the screen Gaster was looking at. Two possible allies and one enemy. The brothers looked at the screen with worry in their eye sockets. She looked at the other screens and noticed a important ingredient for her SOUL. “Stay here. I too most leave. Found a Void Dragon SOUL.” She too teleported out.
***
Tumblr media
“WHERE THE HELL ARE WE SANS?”
“looks like the underground, boss.” The smaller skeleton look at the empty boot in his hands. The fall was terrible. They even lost Flowery. Lucky when the rip appeared under their feet Sans was quick enough to used a combo of blue magic and teleportation to get his and his brother to safety. But they lost Flowery!
“I CAN SEE THAT! BUT HOW ARE WE HERE AND WHERE IS THE CEILING? AND CAN YOU STOP LOOKING AT THAT BOOT! IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. WE WILL FIND HIM. OKAY?”
“Oh? So you two made a friend? How cute.” The red eyed skeleton look at the source of the bone chilling familiar voice. A Tall skeleton in a red lab coat and gagged cracks gave them a creepy smile. “Oh how I missed my two favorite creations. I have been dying to find test subjects for am latest theories.”
“don't come any closer, gaster.” The brothers summoned bones and Gaster Blasters to defend themselves. Only for a Blaster to go off at the mad scientist's feet. “huh? that wasn't mine.”
Another tall skeleton appeared. He looked similar to their father but looked softer, kinder maybe. “Hello, Fell.”
“I hate it when you call me that, Wing Dings. You know I didn't fall. I WAS PUSHED!” Fell glared at his children. Almost smiled when he saw them shaking in fear. But is glee dispatched when Wing Dings stepped in front of them. “Wing Dings. Step aside. They are my creations. I can do with them as I want.”
“No. You won't. I am taking the boys away from you, Fell. You will never touch them again!” Wing Dings snapped his fingers and a whole army of Gaster Blasters appeared around Fell. He then grabbed the brothers and teleported.
“EXPLAIN YOURSELF! WHY ARE WE OUTSIDE OF SNOWDEN!” The tall sharp tooth skeleton was not pleased with being force into a teleportation.
“Forgive me but a friend of mine had place a barrier on the townline entrance that prevents anyone from teleporting in.” Wing Dings stepped through the townline with the brothers right behind. “Oh dear! I was in to much of a hurry to explain to VI what I was doing. I hope she looked at the screen.”
Fell appeared behind them, “Wing Dings! You can't run away from m-Ack!” Like a crow flying into a clean window. “What the fuck!”
“See you around Fell! Watch out for the other one behind you.” Gaster smiled as Fell felt around for another barrier that wasn't there. He then turned towards the brothers and winked at them. “I shall make some accommodations for you. But first I need to introduce you to your other selves.” The old Skelly smiled at his own joke as he lead them to his boys old house.
***
A small skeleton curled up in a ball was in the brink of tears. He was finally out of the Anti Void, but he was scared. The voices are gone. Error is gone. He is free. So why was he so scared? Oh he truly knows why as he looked at his gloved hand and saw it glitching. The glitching in his eyesight was a constant reminder as well.
He got up and just headed towards where he thought was where Snowden was. He have been in the Anti Void so long his memory is not what it used to be.
“Well well.” A creepy voice spoke behind him. The frightened skeleton turned towards the source of the voice. He saw enough AU Windows and Portals to recognize a duplicate version of him without the shock it should have. He didn't like this version of him though. “Is it a type of narcism if I wanna eat you?” Yep. Definitely don't like him. He ran. “Running only makes me hungrier!” The smaller Skelly looked over his shoulder to see the other one replaced by a skeletal beast.
The beast was right on top of him when it was pushed back by a wall of fur. “Don't stop! I'll catch up with you later!” Temmie? Oh that's right. Temmie can changed her size. The skeleton ran. He can still hear the battle behind him, then he heard a crunching sound, a yelp, and thundering footsteps catching up to him. He gave a yelp of his own when he felt teeth pulling at his scarf. Then he was flung onto a furry back. “Hang on!” They raced through the UnderVoid.
***
Tumblr media
Finally found a Void Dragon SOUL. Good thing it was in Waterfall. Bad thing it was floating so high up. Blue magic don't work on Void Dragons and without her SOUL she can't float herself. Her SOUL was so specially light that it helped her with her own floating. The only part that makes her miss having a SOUL, now VI's bare feet stay solid on the ground.
Think girl. Think! She got it! She gathered up the nearby SOULS with blue magic and made a bridge with them to the Void Dragon SOUL. The SOUL was a deep black. Not HATE black, but a midnight black without a moon or lights that takes away the view of the stars. The SOUL even glimer as if the SOUL itself holds a universe within.
The moment her hand got a hold of the SOUL, a raspy voice cut through her concentration, “Wow…” The SOUL bridge broke and VI was falling. “Oh Shit! I got ya!” VI landed in the arms of someone tall and strong. She looked up to see a pair of sleepy eye sockets. When she had her SOUL sleepy eyes on tall individuals made her blush and giggle like a loon. But now. She felt nothing. “Ya alright Miss?”
“Help us!” The plea was nearby. SOULLESS or not she wasn't going to let a possible ally become a victim of an enemy. They will definitely be needing the numbers if they are to survive. The sleepy eyed tall skeleton followed her to the source of the cry for help.
A giant Temmie carrying a small blue armored skeleton on her back was running from a skeletal beast that VI recognized from PT!PR@Foxy-Sierra. The Temmie looks like she is limping. And the cannibalistic monster was catching up on them. VI used Blue magic on the beast and flung him against a wall. “Snowden! Run to Snowden!” VI turned her attention back to her prey. She truly should dust this joker. “Hello, Pred. Knife to eat ya!”
The beast changed back to his original form. “Heh. Good one.” Pred lunged towards VI. “BUT I HEARD IT BEFORE!” The battle started. VI summoned Cleft Sharp and used it to block Pred's attack and dodge his bones and Blasters. It seems the battle was in a standstill until VI got first blood. “Shit!” Pred touched his face where the rapier nicked him. “Gotta say. You are good.” A Gaster Blaster Beam missed Pred by a hair.
“whoa there buddy. sorry but i gotta take the lady back home.” Sans walked out of the shadows. Pred looked shocked at seeing a cleaner, even healthier version of himself. “and don't think i didn't noticed your LV. you are one evil bastard aren't ya? come near me and my friends and you are going to have a bad time.” And with that Sans teleported VI and himself back to the townline.
“Sans! I could of dusted that sick fuck!”
“NO! YOU COULDN'T!” Sans grabbed her hand that was still holding Cleft Sharp. “your rapier can't kill, vi!”
“What!?” Pred caught up to them. “I am so going to DUST Y-Ack!” Like a crow to a clean window. The two friends turned and left for the house. “Come back here! When I get my hands on you I will enjoy sucking the marrow out of your bones!” What a Creep.
***
“So the voices called you Blueberry? Why?” The tall orange skeleton asked his younger brother who was eating tacos like they were going out of style.
“Don't know. Why did everyone in the Omega Timeline called you Stretch?” Stretch shrugged lazily but his sockets didn't stopped looking at his newly reunited bother. “Mehehehe! It is good to be with you again brother!”
“I think I am happy that you two are safe now. If not it is definitely a relief.” Temmie now in her original size was curled up in a ball on Stretch's lap. “I know for a fact that I was scared when that black skeleton was dusting monsters left and right. I think I was worried when he kidnapped Sa- I mean Blueberry.”
“YOU TWO HAVE BEEN THROUGH A LOT EVEN BEFORE THE RIPS.” Papyrus rubbed his gloved hands on the two switched version's shoulders. His voice lowered, “Gaster will look at the abandoned houses for you to use as accommodations. You are safe here.”
“We aren't calling you Boss! Okay. There has to be a better nickname for you?” Frisk asked Chara to be more polite. “Fine. But I am still not calling him Boss.”
“INSOLENT WHELP! IN MY AU I AM CAPTAIN OF THE ROYAL GUARD! AND I DEMAND RESPECT!” Someone tapped him on the shoulder, “WHAT DO YOU WA-” He stopped yelling when he came socket to socket with a beautiful female skeleton.
“Now Captain. That is no way to speak with friends. Friends means allies. Allies means numbers. And numbers mean defense.” The woman looked at the dark version of her sweet hearted friend with judgment. “Even a SOULLESS like myself knows this. I would have thought a Royal Guard, especially a Captain, would also know this.” She then turned to the children. “The Omniverse have given our angsty friends nicknames already. The tall one in Edge and the short one is Red.”
“Thank you Miss for helping Temmie and me.” Blueberry lowered his eye sockets. “The others told me you sacrificed your SOUL to stop Error. Even without your SOUL I think you are a good person.”
Tumblr media
“You are the Blueberry that Error had imprisoned in his AntiVoid, aren't you?” The small skeleton nodded. “I think you may still have a chance to change Error. Not completely good I hope but bad at being evil.” The skeletons in the room looked at her like she was crazy. “The Void Kingdom have always taught their children that as long as there is Day there will be Night. Also as there is Chaos there will be Peace. Space and Time. Black and White. But there must be a scale to balance the Order. There is Twilight, Necessity, the Void, and the Gray. These things that Balance the Order. I have always hope that the Nightmare Squad would be the necessary evil that the Multiverse needs. Think of it this way. In order for a forest to grow you need to cut down the trees that are diseased or dead.”
“Alphys is calling. Alphys is calling.” Again? Something is up. VI gave the word to answer. “M-Ms. VI? I am s-sorry to b-bother you but the F-followers and I have been keeping track on the rips. A-and th-there’s one in the R-ruins. A-a t-tall S-sans like sk-skeleton walked through. I a-am a-also going t-to give you visual c-copies of other sightings.” A few images of humans and skeletons flashed over the hologram screen.
“Wait! Show me the human with the flowers.” An image of a woman in her early twenties and flowers on her face was being dragged by a Sans with his hood up and cover in dust. “Now, show me the skeleton in the Ruins. Well, I’ll be a Froggit! FF!PP@Siviosanei? Oh Mother you sick goddess. You brought back a Monster’s SOULMATE back from the dead, but didn’t heal her?” She looked out toward her allies. “Any volunteers to bright Romeo back to his Juliet?”

Day 14 : Repast
Chara hadn’t been used to eating with their parents.
They usually were at work by the time the child ate, so they got used to eating alone.
And when their parents were at home, they usually preferred to have a break from having 'such a weird kid'.
Chara sometimes ate while walking and liked to hear themselves chew; it was just stimming, they were doing nothing wrong.
Still, they quickly understood that it wasn't usual for people to do that, and always isolated themselves when eating.
But with the Dreemurr family, Chara felt like they didn't have to hide their 'quirks'.
It felt like they were at home, like they could finally be themselves without the consequence of being mocked for it.
They looked forward to all of them sitting at the table, talking while enjoying Toriel's delicious food.
It simply was the best.
And now that the monsters were back to the surface thanks to Frisk, those moments had the added benefit of having more diverse meals.
"So, Frisk dear, how did you know in advance that you had to do all of this before going to fight Asgore ?" Toriel asked the girl, curious.
Oh, dear Toby Fox…
Chara stopped eating their potatoes and looked at Frisk.
The girl looked at them then at Asriel and then at Toriel, clearly unsure of what to say.
To be honest, Chara also didn't know what to answer to that, and Asriel visibly didn't know as well…
Their adventures in the Underground was a dark and complicated story that the three children knew could never be understood by anyone else.
"...Well, uh, I guess I was just lucky ?" Frisk said sheepishly. "I just wanted to help my friends, so I didn't go to Asgore immediately..."
"You truly are something special, my girl." Asgore said, rubbing Frisk's hair from across the table.
"Haha, thanks." she laughed happily.
"Since we're on the subject of Frisk saving us all..." Chara muttered, unsure of themself. "Do you think that now is the time you finally tell us how you got Asriel and me alive again...?"
Everyone is staring.
"C-Chara...!" Asriel exclaimed, visibly uncomfortable. "Mom and dad said they preferred not to talk about it."
"Yeah, yeah, I know..." they agreed with guilt. "Sorry, I just thought that since they brought that up maybe... Nevermind, that was stupid, I was foolish and I apologize for making everyone uncomfortable."
Toriel was about to say something but Asgore gently put his hand on her shoulder, then they nodded - probably a 'we'll do it when it's time' or something like that.
"I'm sorry we can't answer your questions yet, my child, I know it eats at you everyday..." their mother said softly, smiling sadly. "But like your psychologist said, you need to manage to enjoy life even if you don't understand why you're still here."
"I know..." they muttered, scratching their arm uncomfortably.
"Chara's been doing good progress on that !" Asriel suddenly exclaimed, smiling proudly at them. "They've been doing morning jogs everyday the past two weeks, and they seem to like it a lot !"
"Oh, do they ?" Asgore asked, positively surprised. "Chara, why didn't you tell us about that, it's wonderful !"
"Oh, uh... I didn't think it was a big deal..." they answered, rubbing at their blushing cheek. "Yeah, I've been enjoying those morning jogs, it's nice."
"It's great to hear, my child." Toriel said, sounding as happy as their father.
"Hey, can I join you for that jog tomorrow ?" Frisk asked sheepishly. "I haven't done any kind of exercise ever since we left the Underground, it'll be good for me too."
"Haha, sure."
Chara smiled happily; with the Dreemurr family, each repast was a pleasant time to enjoy each others' presence.
