note : this was supposed to be for a drabble set but it got off topic haha.

dawn winery is filled with light chatter as the guests of the party slowly filter out of the grand building. the usually empty mansion was filled with many guests just moments ago as adelinde had thrown a surprise party in honor of the young master. what for? you couldn't quite remember the specific reason, but if it was to celebrate something for diluc, you weren't one to pass the occasion.

especially knowing how the luc you've grown up with isn't one to celebrate any of his achievements, at least not as of recently.

he's a quiet man, preferring to be alone or in the presence of those he deemed tolerable; though, you knew that was his convoluted way of saying he enjoyed certain people's company but he would rather pierce himself with his great sword than admit that out loud.

besides, as much as luc tried to hide it, it was hard for him to hide the ghost of a smile that lingered on his face when he came home to the warm surprise that welcomed him when he came home this particular evening.

as the young master of the winery bid the acting grand master of the knights of favonius and the young spark knight safe travels, you catch the movement of the calvary captain inch towards the door. his movements are small and calculated, almost as if he planned to make it out the door without grabbing the attention of his brother. however, luck was not on kaeya's side as the head maid swiftly sidled to his side, guiding the poor man towards his brother.

as amusing as it would be to eavesdrop on the words shared between estranged brothers, it would be rude of you to put your nose in family business that you had no reason in knowing.

however, before you could busy yourself in helping the maids with tidying up the manor, your name is called.

"you're still here," diluc says to you, approaching you with steps that echo through the manor. the light from the chandelier that hangs above you illuminates the entire room, the light twinkling in the reflection from diluc's eyes as he focuses his attention on you.

his hair is unruly, messier than it usually is as he must have been tussled a bit during the celebration. it's a shame that you couldn't spend a bit more time with him alone during his party, but what could you do when there were just so many people who care for him the way you do.

your fingers absentmindedly tuck a loose curl of red hair from diluc's face behind his ear, and you bite back a smile when his eyes widen from your touch.

"when everyone else had your attention this evening, is it selfish of me to be the last to leave just to be with you alone?"

his lips part for a mere second before they widen into a small smile. his hand, rough and scarred from years of fighting and training yet held the comforting warmth that you've been yearning for for your entire life, encases your own and bring them to his lips to press a gentle kiss on the tops of your knuckles.

"it is indeed," he whispers, his breath gently hitting your skin, "but there is nothing wrong with being selfish once in a while, dearest."

you hum, sliding your other hand up diluc's chest and to his jaw, gently cupping his face in your palm. your heart hammers against your chest when he leans into your touch, the fiery rubies in his eyes that burn bright with the deepest passion and refuse to be extinguished regardless of the circumstances focus solely on you, sending your thoughts into a flurry.

"then," your thumb gently rubs diluc's cheek, "would it be alright for me to stay a while longer? just to be by your side?"

a kiss is planted onto your palm and you feel a heat rush through you from head to toe.

"of course. anything is alright if it's with you, sweet dove."
