For the Ladyâs Favour
A Miraculous Ladybug Fanfiction
By Mintaka14
Chapter One
 Alya made soothing noises while Marinette moaned softly.
âIt was just a setback,â Alya reassured her.
âIt was a disaster was what it was,â Marinette mumbled into her desk, and wrapped her arms over her head. âWhy does it always have to be so hard? Maybe the universe just doesnât want me to be with Adrien.â
âI am not letting the universe dictate to us!â Alya insisted, and anyone watching would have felt for the universe in the face of Alyaâs expression. As it was, Marinette didnât look up.
âIâm just so tired,â Marinette muttered. âIâm tired of trying so hard to just speak to him without turning into a babbling mess. Iâm tired of trying to get him to notice me.â
Alya patted her on her back.
âWhy canât someone chase me for a change? Whereâs a knight in shining armour when you need one? Every anime heroine has one, why canât I?â
Alyaâs hand slowed. âYou might be onto something there,â she said thoughtfully, but Marinette didnât hear her.
âSomeone willing to do brave deeds to win me,â Marinette said wistfully. âGo on quests, and do stuff to prove that Iâm more than a good friend.â
Alya was sitting out of her line of sight. It sounded like she was writing something, but when Marinette turned to look Alya waved her away.
âYou were saying about brave deeds?â
âIâd settle for a cup of coffee and someone who actually wants to spend time with me.â
âGot it,â Alya said, and Marinette swivelled around at the sound of tearing paper, but Alya had folded whatever it was out of sight. She reached across Marinette and snagged an envelope from the stationery drawer. As an afterthought, Alya snatched up a tiny sticker of a ladybug and added it to the envelope.
âListen, Iâve got to meet Nino in a minute,â Alya told her a little guiltily. âYou gonna be okay? I can come back laterâŠâ
Marinette waved her away with one hand. âIâm fine.â She sighed. âItâs not like Iâm not used to crushing humiliation.â
She was engulfed in a hug, and then Alya whirled away to the staircase, the envelope in her hand.
âYou will be fine,â her friend insisted. âTrust me.â
The door clicked shut, and Marinette frowned.
âWhy did that sound so ominous?â she asked the suddenly silent bedroom.
~~~~~
Once the afternoon rush in Café des Fleurs started to settle, Luka paused to flick his blue-dyed hair out of his eyes and glanced around the tables. Everything seemed under control for the moment, no one needing refills, no empty tables that needed to be cleared. Most of the faces that afternoon were new to him, but one of the tables near the counter was occupied by three teenagers laughing over something.
The blond boy looked familiar, and Luka frowned, trying to remember where he knew him from. He wasnât a regular customer. The kid with the headphones around his neck and the amiable expression was, though, and Luka remembered Nino because he had good taste in music and sometimes stopped to chat whenever the counter wasnât too busy. Ninoâs girlfriend, the sharp-eyed girl with the glasses, was pointing at the noticeboard beside the counter, and Luka turned to look.
The envelope pinned to the board that she was gesturing at hadnât been there at the start of his shift, he was sure of that. Heâd put up a flyer for his bandâs gig on Friday, and there definitely hadnât been an envelope of any sort there then. In fact, he could have sworn it wasnât there before Nino and his girlfriend arrived in the middle of the afternoon rush.
He narrowed his eyes, leaning on the counter, as the girl unpinned it with overdone surprise and handed it to the blond boy.
âI wonder what this is, Adrien?â she asked disingenuously.
Radiant. Carefree. Dreamy. Adrien the Fragrance.
Lukaâs eyebrow rose as he made the connection. Huh. That explained why the blond boy was so familiar. Heâd been plastered on every billboard in Paris, and played out on every media site for what felt like months. Pretty enough, Luka supposed, but a little too synthetic for his taste.
âAre you brave enough?â the girl was reading from the envelope. âWell, are you going to open it, Adrien?â
âWhat if itâs for someone else?â the blond boy responded, turning it in his hands.
âThereâs no name on it. Go on, you should open it.â
Egged on by his friends, Adrien opened the envelope, and Luka watched the the boyâs eyes go wide as he read the letter inside. He was looking for all the world as though every Christmas had come at once. And Ninoâs girlfriend was trying to suppress a satisfied, and rather smug, smirk.
Luka bit back an amused smile, and turned away to deal with another customer, too busy to pay them any more mind for a while until he looked up from the coffee he was pouring to find the blond boy standing in front of the counter.
Radiant. Carefree⊠Damn. He was going to have that stuck in his head all day now. Hadnât his sister said something about going to school with Adrien Agreste, the model?
The boy tapped the envelope on the edge of the counter, and then slid it towards Luka.
âI donât suppose you saw who left this on the noticeboard, did you?â he asked hopefully. Luka sent a quick glance towards the table where Nino and his girlfriend wer sitting.
Pretty sure that was your friendâs girlfriend. He didnât voice the thought, and, after all, he didnât know for sure. Were they playing some kind of prank on the blond model?
âSorry, mate,â he told Adrien. âBut it canât have been that long ago. It wasnât there before the rush started.â
Adrien spun around to eye off the busy tables, but there were mostly middle-aged office workers and a couple of families with very young children, and he slumped noticeably.
âSheâs not here,â he muttered. He turned back to Luka with a smile that looked a little too practised to be genuine. âThanks, though.â
The girl leaned in as Adrien slid back into the chair beside her, and she seemed to be insisting on something. In the glimpses he had of the table between customers, Luka could see her talking hard at Adrien while the model scribbled something on a piece of paper in front of him with a look of deep concentration. Nino seemed to be staying out of it.
Luka was sliding a tray of coffee and pain au chocolat across the counter for the waitress to collect when Adrien approached the counter again, looking nervous now.
âExcuse me?â
Luka gave him an easy smile, and a raised eyebrow.
âCan I⊠put something on the noticeboard?â
âFeel free,â Luka said, and then his attention was claimed by a woman ordering cafĂ© crĂšme to go. When he finally had a moment to glance up, Adrien seemed to be getting ready leave, and there was a folded piece of paper pinned to the spot where the envelope had been. Luka leaned on the counter, waiting for the next move.
Sure enough, as soon as the model was out the door and into the expensive-looking black car that had pulled up outside the cafĂ©, Ninoâs girlfriend was taking down the note Adrien had left on the board. Nino didnât look happy about it, Luka noticed.
âAlya,â the boy said, âare you sure this is a good idea?â
She gave him a dismissive wave of her hand. âItâs fine, Nino. Itâs genius. Youâll see.â
They gathered their bags and headed for the door, neither of them seeing the sceptical lift of Lukaâs eyebrow as he collected up their empty cups and gave the table a wipe. The customers got stranger every day.
~~~~~
Marinette hadnât been expecting to see Alya again that afternoon, and when her bedroom trapdoor crashed open, the pencil swerved across the design sheâd been sketching. Marinette muttered under her breath, and reached for the eraser.
âTadah!â Alya announced, producing a folded page with a flourish and a smug grin. She held it out to Marinette. âYou can thank me later.â
âWhat?â Marinette turned it in her hands, frowning at the little paw print drawn in one corner. âAlya, what is this?â
âThis is your very own secret knight. Go on, read it!â
âAlya, what are you talking about?â
âRemember you were talking about wanting someone to do heroic deeds for you? So you donât have to trip over yourself trying to get them to notice you?â
âAlya ââ
âJust read it!â her friend said impatiently, and Marinette unfolded the page, reading the message inside.
âMy lady, Your bravery in issuing the challenge shall not go unmarked. I would be honoured to try for your favour with heroic deeds âŠâ
âAlya, what the hell is this?!â
Alyaâs grin grew wider and sharper. âRemember what you were talking about? Well, I just wrote it down and put it up on the public notice board at that coffee shop near the park. And someone took it!â
âAlya!â
Marinette stared at her friend in growing horror.
âHow could you do this?! Someone wants to try for my favour? What kind of weirdo would do that?? What kind of friend would do that? I donât even know who this is from! What if this is some creepy perv? What if ââ
âMari, calm down,â Alya cut off her rising panic. âLook, youâve got nothing to lose here. They donât know who you are, you donât know who they are, you never have to even talk to them in person if you donât want â itâs perfect.â
âWho â wha ââ
âAnd of course Iâm going to check them out for you, and make sure theyâre not some skeev,â Alya added soothingly. She put her hands on Marinetteâs shoulders, leaning down to meet her eyes. âIâve got you covered. And, hey, what if itâs some really cute teenage boy whoâll love you forever? All you have to do is send a note back and get them to do something to show theyâre serious.â
Marinetteâs head was still spinning. âLike â what?â
Alya shrugged. âCoffeeâs always a good start. Coffeeâs a good first date, and you can find out a lot about a person by their taste in drinks. Ask them to send a coffee to wherever you want, and Iâll even deliver your request to the noticeboard myself. You donât have to do a thing except wait for it to turn up. Iâve got you.â
âCoffee?â Marinette found herself repeating stupidly, and Alya gave her a grin.
âOr something like that.â
âI can do coffee. One drink canât hurt, can it?â

My Stationery Box, or: The Douche Chest, or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Being A Terrible Parody Of Myself
So I really love to write letters, and have since i was a kid â when i cleaned out my grandparentsâ house I found a few Iâd written in grade school, and my parentsâ files are chocablock full of the weird collage type things I sent to them in college.Â
Iâve also been a huge insufferable fucking snob about stationery since way too young (yes I did have a fountain pen phase, no it did not go well) and have been collecting fancy paper and cute cards and assorted weird writing paraphernalia forever. Up until recently, things were just kind of haphazardly stuffed in various drawers and shelves and I could never actually find any said fancy shit when I wanted it; but a couple of months ago I discovered an adorable little chest of my late momâs that had previously housed, I think, her knitting and has mostly just been collecting dust since. And voila: The Douche Chest was born:
(Pictured with my elderly laptop and coffee with my coffee warmer, which I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE everyone to buy one day when weâre not under worldwide quarantine, seriously it will change your life.)
Keep Reading for some top tier stationerdery
First off, the stuff that helps me write! I still use my family address book, which was purchased sometime in the early 80s and has the name and address of everyone my parents ever cared enough about to want their name and address, which is actually not that many people. I keep it updated and have added a few people, but mostly rely on my phoneâs address book. Mostly I like it because itâs got a lot of my momâs handwriting.
My planner, which has a whole correspondence section where I keep a record of who I write to regularly, when I write to them, and what kind of stationery they usually get (because there are different types and you donât want to give a correspondence an inconsistent letter-reading experience! Yes I know, I canât believe Iâm like this either) indicated by the m, s, x, l, b notations. That will be relevant later. Also yes the planner is where I scribble down both story ideas and my gratitude journal. This is what Iâm saying in re: yikes.
At my own house, I have a whole huge box of letters Iâve gotten over the years, mostly organized by sender and date. Since Iâm at my auntâs house for quarantine, my correspondence is all being kept in my dadâs old... I dunno what to call it, basically itâs a trapper-keeper type thing that I literally never saw him go to work without. (A running theme of this tour is that a whole lot of this stuff is inherited from/given to me by my parents and grandparents.) Inside is also various labels that have come in handy when addressing packages etc, as well as our local neighborhood directory.
Next up is my pen bag, which is â I mean, it has my pens. I prefer writing with a black .5 tip rollerball type pen, and by âpreferâ I mean âI cannot abide writing letters with anything else and will go to Staples and buy a new box rather than use a ballpoint pen except obv not right now, which makes the bag real important for keeping track of all my special pens.â Also pictured: my grandpaâs ancient letter opener that Iâm pretty sure he stabbed multiple people with, and my blue Le Pen which I use to annotate my letters when Iâm reading them through before sending. I KNOW.
This is my assorted letter-writing stuff storage box (no weâre not even at the cards yet this is TERRIBLE); please note that I sort of jerryrigged this box together myself, which will be another running theme of this tour. Glue, roller whiteout thingies, washi tape (which I donât really use but people keep sending me?) post-its and my address stamp because no matter what I do, the fuckinâ Audubon Society refuses to send me a single donation request with cute stickers showing my address even though theyâve sent my deceased dad like three THIS YEAR. Anyway. Also please note the incredibly awesome initial stamp thing â I came up with the rough design in college and use it in place of my name a lot, but I went to leoniebunch and they transformed it into this super professional and lovely design that I want to use for the rest of my life. Not pictured: the fucking wax seal I also had made with that design, because yes, Iâm like this.
WEâRE STILL NOT DONE WITH THE PARAPHERNALIA: hereâs the other misc. stuff that I use on the regular. Cup with sponge because weâre not really licking envelopes these days: tons of weird stickers that Iâve collected, YET MORE PENS, including rainbow ones because one of these days Iâm going to write to one of my friends with alternating rainbow colors and theyâll have to murder me. Also pictured: the letter opener which I forgot to put back in the pen bag, as well as my dogâs nail clippers and brush because thatâs a handy place to keep them. Also also pictured: my dog, who does not help in any way with letter writing.
OKAY FINALLY ONTO THE STATIONERY, Jesus just writing this all out is making me both proud and ashamed.
Iâm sure you noticed in the first pic how everything is meticulously, not to say monomaniacally, labeled. Some stuff might require a little bit of explanation; some stuff is pretty wysiwyg though. For example, BEAR CARDS, which:
(These are sent exclusively to my nephews, who go absolutely apeshit over them every time. Come to think of it, I have a LOT of cards/letter stock/etc that is just for one person or one set of people, which maybe I should talk to my therapist about.)
PUN CARDS are likewise exactly what you think they are; theyâre the most recent addition to my hoard, having found them at Powells when I went to Portland in February. They are extremely My Kind Of Thing.
Then youâve got things like BIRTHDAY CARDS, THANKS, POSTCARDS which like â guess what:
(Please note that of these birthday cards, all but two were actually inherited from my grandmother who passed away in 1986. See if you can guess which two are my purchases.) (Also Iâm running out of thank-you cards but to be fair I am rarely grateful so this should last me another few years at least.) (Also shit, I didnât take a picture of the postcards I donât think? Whatever, theyâre postcards that Iâve either inherited from my parents or collected over the years. Thereâs also a very odd collection of wolf-themed cards that SOMEONE in my family collected, and that I have been using exclusively for allighater because sheâs the only one who could ever appreciate them enough.)
Then thereâs the BLANK CARDS and BLANK AND WRITTEN CARDS WITH/WITHOUT ENVELOPES, because sometimes I just need to know what Iâm getting into before opening the boxes. Iâd say a good 50% of these were inherited from my folks, with the cutsier ones being my own purchases. The cards that these boxes originally contained are looooooooong since used up but theyâre nice boxes and that meme about adulthood being an endless debate over whether or not you should keep a box because itâs a really good box is accurate as all hell.Â
(There are a lot of cards in here that I bought when I was like, in college â those square ones, for example, were purchased at Faces in Northampton when I was in college and Iâm probably never going to actually send them which is kind of ridiculous but see: this entire post.)
And finally, the actual letter-letter stationery! Which I also have an embarrassing amount of! First up is whatâs labelled MADOC TREE CARD/LETTER because I honestly had no idea how else to describe it; it was inherited from my grandma who everyone called MaDoc (on account of her being both a ma and a doctor, go figure) and itâs really lovely. I doubt itâs the original intention, but I like to unfold the paper and use both sides of it, because I always have a lot to say. These are used only for family members on MaDocâs side, and of those, only the ones I really like, which accounts for there still being a lot left.
Then thereâs the X-LARGE paper, which isnât actually that large â itâs just normal computer-sized â but in context is the biggest stuff Iâve got. All of this paper is from my mom, who loved using cute themed paper, and I use this stuff mostly for the friends of hers I keep in touch with (which is actually kind of a lot).
Then thereâs the letterhead I use for â okay, so like, we know by now that Iâm deeply weird, but this is probably just DEEPLY WEIRD, but whatever, you came this far. So I found a metric shitton of 6 3/4 envelopes in amongst my parentsâ office supplies â I have literally zero idea why they had about 5 100-count boxes of these envelopes but Iâm one of those people who can never, ever throw shit out, so! I gathered together all the letterhead that theyâd also collected over the years from the various universities and hospitals they worked at, cut said letterhead down so that it a) didnât have University of Tacoma or whatever still on it and b) perfectly fit a 6 3/4 envelope if folded three times. The resulting shape is a little... odd, Iâll admit, but it pleases me greatly and thatâs the important thing. In fact this has been my go-to correspondence choice for a couple of months now.
(Also pictured: the cover for this hinky-ass box I made out of a Beekman 1802 box from when we went to their store for their Rose Apothecary popup shop. Zero regrets. Not pictured: the really cute pad of paper I also use for these envelopes thatâs a more normal size and shape because whereâs the fun in showing you normal stuff?)
And finally, my pride and joy, my Crane Stationery, some of which I have had since I was in high school and my mom bought me a box of it for my birthday (I told you, running theme). It comes in small, medium, and big; yes, I absolutely have rules as to who gets what size of these, too. The medium box kind of fell apart a few years ago so I cobbled a new one together; Crane stationery is notable for not being as exciting as that cover might imply. Iâm also kind of pleased that I still have the airmail stationery that I got in college that apparently isnât sold anymore, which I find baffling because what the fuck is the point of international correspondence if you donât have to use special stationery? Anyway:
(In re: the lined sheets â I actually have them for every size, because I loathe lined paper but also loathe writing crooked, hence these guides that I put under each sheet as I write. ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ )
So thatâs the complete guided tour! If you aspire to have a collection as viscerally unnerving as mine, feel free to send any questions my way. Youâre welcome/Iâm sorry.
#'you're welcome/I'm sorry' is ALSO a running theme#anyway a whole three people on twitter wanted this so tadaaaa#stationery station

Tom and His Wife
Warning: sweet sappy stuff below.Â
âLove.â Tom pats the bed beside him rubbing his eyes. âWhere did you go?â He leaves the bed and finds his wife on the couch drawing in her work sketchbook.
âBuggy, itâs late, come back to bed.â He sits on the couch behind her.
âDucky, I need to finish this.â She continues her drawings.
âPatrick is only expecting sketches of characters, not elaborate backgrounds.â
âHow do you know that?â Millie asks.
âBecause you do this every time you start a new book, and by the fifteenth one I think I have you figured out.â Tom rubs her back.
âReally, so do you think Iâm going to go back to bed now.â She smirks not looking at him.
âNot until youâve had some tea, which Iâm going to make. Besides itâs freezing.â Tom gets up to make the tea. Â
Bobby pokes her head up from the dog bed in the living room.
âSorry dearie, go back to bed.â Millie, Tomâs wife and currently an insomniac, says Â
Millie goes into the kitchen and wraps her arms around Tomâs waist as he puts the kettle on.
âWhatâs this all about?â
âThe cuddling or the book?â She asks.
âMost of the time youâre fairly confident in your writing, now you canât sleep because youâre anxious. What happened?â
âNothing.â Millie looks down at her ring.
âIs it because of the wedding?â Tomâs eyes follow hers down.
âNo.â Millie answers simply hoping he will leave it alone.
âIs it because of the name change paperwork, because love I donât care if you take my last name or not.â Tom thinks of something else it could be.
âNo and  itâs not important. Itâs just something Patrick joked about the meeting after we got married.â Millie sighs.
âWhat did he say?â Tom asks.
âI could print garbage and youâre fans will still buy it because of the last name. I donât want to give people especially children anything less than the best book I can write.â Â
âAnd how do you feel about this book and itâs pitch.â
âI love the concept and Iâd give my all for this book series to work out in the end.â
âThen it sounds like youâre in good hands, and donât listen to Patrickâs unfunny jokes. Besides youâre his best-selling author in the whole publishing house, I doubt he meant to make you feel inferior.â Tom places the warm mug of tea in her hands.
âThanks, Ducky, wait how did you know about the sales.â
âLuke knows your agent, and I was curious, but for right now, letâs head back to bed.â Tom wraps an arm around Millie and walks back to the bedroom. Tea mugs now placed on opposite night stands.
Millie lays down and snuggles up to Tom, â How do you do that?â
âDo what?â
âMake nearly everything better.â She asks.
âI should be asking you that.â
Millie pats the empty space in the bed beside her. Tom left early to get his day started before his few interviews of the day. She gets dressed and works on the finishing details of her backgrounds before putting them in an old briefcase her father used. As she walks into the elevator she overhears the television anchor talk about an exclusive interview with Tom Hiddleston to be aired later in the day.
âMillie, youâre early, and that looks like more than just sketches.â Paul opens the office door inviting her in.
âYeah itâs some of the backgrounds I want to use with the story I have in mind.â Millie sits down.
âEnlighten me.â Paul follows.
Millie takes out the character sketches and backgrounds to begin her pitch. She can see that as sheâs pitching Paul is highly receptive to her book ideas and overall too nice.
âPaul, why are you being nice?â Â She asks after finishing her pitch.
âIf you havenât noticed I shouldnât be the first to tell you, but you have more talent than what youâre currently using in the kids books.â Paul sighs.
âI like where I am.â She reassures.
âIâm just thinking here, you could get a lot farther if you were to branch out, try young adult fiction, or adult fiction.â He says bluntly.
âHow?â She asks.
âUse being a MRS. to your advantage, how many big directors does Tom know.â Paul takes a sip of his coffee.
âIâm sure a lot.â Millie answers without understand why heâs asking.
âAll it takes is a spark, one meaningful conversation, or one book that a director finds to be full of passion could take you far.â Paul explains.
âI donât even know if Iâd want to go to those kinds of parties.â She remembers the summary of the parties Tom told her.
âYes you do want to be at those parties, think of the free booze.â Paul insists.
âI donât drink.â
âFine, free food then.â Paul tries again.
âPaul, all I want to know is do I have the thumb up for this series.â Millie begins to get up.
âYou had me from the start of that pitch, and believe me about the talent thing. Donât waste it, and weâll talk about the bigger audience some other time.â Â Paul stands as well opening the door.
âThanks and Iâll think about it.â Millie walks out of the office as the interview with Tom starts playing.
Normally she wouldnât watch this type of television but she sits on the couch near the coffee machine.
Tomâs interview.
âAnything new, like upcoming projects, or the fact youâre wearing a wedding ring?â The interviewer asks.
âOh so just casual stuff.â Tom laughs rubbing the ring.
âYeah, nothing too personal.â The interviewer fakes a laugh.
âWell in that case,I married Millie almost a year ago.â He answers simply.
âAnything you can share about her?â The interviewer fishes for more.
âUh I guess Iâll share this little story, nothing too intrusive but it might make me cry again.â Tom rubs the back of his neck. He knows they want a story and he wants to keep it private.
âYou cried when this happened?â The interviewer asks.
âYes.â Tom nearly laughs thinking of it.
âWell then letâs hear it. â The interviewer sits back ready for the big scoop.
âI was frustrated that some details about an upcoming project werenât turning out right, and i went to the gym. I was still frustrated after that so I went home and took a shower. This next part needs explaining. My wife collects a lot of stationery including stickers and sheâs like an unsupervised five year old with stickers. So she put a sticker on the bathroom mirror then ran out, so I was getting out to probably start an argument with herâŠâ Tom pauses so he can blink away the few tears that started to leak out.
The interviewer gave a tissue and looks at him to continue.
âI saw the sticker on the mirror. It was a giant cluster of grapes with a speech bubble of âYouâre Grape!â and I laughed for a second and then started bawling because it occurred to me at this moment that I married one of the kindest woman in the world. This happened before she was mostly awake to the world. One of the first things she does every morning is that she tries to make me smile and that morning I really needed it.â Tom finishes his story and then wipes his eyes.
âThatâs so sweet. How long after the wedding did that happen?â The interview moves the trash can so he can throw away the tissue.
âUm about six months after. I promise the rest of the interview will be more light-hearted.â Tom tosses it in.
The office secretary Jemma clicks the TV off with a remote.
Millie jumps at the sudden blackness on the screen.
âSheâs a lucky lady, isnât she, Mills.â Jemma asks.
âYeah, she is.â Millie replies putting her security pass with her new last name on the table for Jemma to scan.
Jemma scans it without paying attention and lets Millie leave without any questions.
After Millie gets to the street, Jemma throws down her pencil â Sheâs his Millie!â

11. Someone comes from another universe and tells you about their world. From what theyâre talking about, it sounds pretty awesome (despite a few aspects) and youâre thinking about visiting this cool place. The person asks you to come with them, but thereâs two conditions. 1) Only you can go. 2) If you go, thereâs a 50% chance you might not be able to come back to this universe. What is your decision? Why?
Iâll say yes if I can keep in touch with family/friends on earth, otherwise no. Why: because I like adventure and I really dislike earth atm
