Our Sweet Girl 😢 - she left this world 29 October- cancer, once again, stealing another of our family. Fuck cancer. Kumakichi was born May 2008, in the back of 506 S. East Ave, Highlandtown Baltimore. She enjoyed a carefree childhood, w/ her siblings, protected from the rats & other elements by MamaCat, the best Cat Mom ever! She was sweeter than salt & would occasionally snuggle up on @margomuschamp ‘s head & sleep for hours, purring & nuzzling & giving love ❤️ No better guard cat - claws sharper than a Japanese Chef’s knife & teeth to match. But she was also gentle & kind & loved flowers & random wild animals that would wander through the yard (squirrels, possums, raccoons, turkeys, & crows); a true nature lover spending countless hours lolling under the peonies or amongst the grape vines. A ray of bright sunshine every morning, giving a Good Morning swat to anyone that came near. Kumakichi did not tolerate fools & kept everyone in line when the shenanigans we’re getting too wild. Jack No Ka Òi! 20 years ago, The Once & Future King 👑 of Deerpark Drive, Robinson Street & Diamond Lake, was a newborn kitten. Jack’s life has been 1 adventure after another, & he just rolls w/ it. He’s California cool, Baltimore badass & Minnesota Nicer (he’s not passive aggressive). The most winsome in Windsor, prodigious in Paris, vociferous in Venice, & astute in Aspen. He’s a role model for cats, rats, hogs & dogs everywhere & has never met a stranger. Jack makes #themostinterestingmanintheworld feel like a slouch. When living in Ladysmith, blocks from the Flambeau, I never knew the secret of flambé. Now I live nearer Minnehaha creek, & I’m a flambé expert, sort of. Someday I’d like to be in a parade, on the Flambeau, making bananas Foster & other fruits in the flambé fashion. I think this form of fruit is particularly useful for layering on top of French toast, upon which one can stack pastrami or corned beef, or both, & call it an UnCrisped Cork W/ Fiery Fruits, or something more catchy. The #diamondlkgirls relax once every couple of weeks, for 30-40 minutes; & they love dress-up - as do I. Pirates #arrrgh pretty nice most of the time. We also prepare for #openingday by sporting some hometown gear (while secretly cheering on #thecrew - the fashion police may have paid us a visit, Shay was out of regs. Jack was also ready for the old ball game to get underway - he’s turning twenty in a few days (about 96 in hooman years). Good thing he’s got his #oodicorn posse at the ready. Wait, I can’t, I got cats 🐈 🐈 🐈 🐈 🐈 Cats, who woulda thunk it. And I love them. They are vigilant & protective of anyone who comes in the house, like dogs, but smaller, mostly. They make sure the beds are made, the pillows are soft, the heads are booped - & in return, we make sure their food gets eaten, they get adequate snuggles & they have cozy places to sleep. It’s a good trade-off. Considering the unfortunate fact that I have allergic reactions to cats, it’s kind of amazing that I’ve become such a #catlover. We’re down to 4 - Jack, the Elder Statesman #Gentleman from California; MamaCat (Olympic class high jumper) & her daughter Kika (green-eyed girl)(#kumakichi ) of Highlandtown in Baltimore - MamaCat & her late beau, GreyBear (father of all of MamaCats kittens), were known as Abelard & Heloise as our neighbor, a professor of philosophy, noted their love story was iconic. We miss Biggie & Baba, brother & sister - from MamaCat’s 2nd litter, gone too soon, & Grey, also left this world too soon. “A long December [25th-26th] & there’s reason to believe, maybe this [coming] year will be better than the last” At the bare minimum, there was jamón & speck & I wrapped them around cheeses, to include a lovely Bleu from Vermont (#gocatamounts ) & some raw garlic, avocado, banana peppers, whatever’s handy, & delicious - paired w/ sazeracs & other botanical cocktails. Roger #rogertwinklesjenkins curled up in a cozy bed & awaited his treats The #diamondlkgirls spent a solid 30 minutes watching Frozen, so nice. Ernie’s Texas Lunch has been a Gettysburg staple since (by various names) since the Harding administration - that’s a pretty good run - & they’ll probably be around for another 99 years. #lakife is different when the temperatures plunge & the waters no longer welcome swimmers & boaters. But they’re lovely, just the same. And the Bunyanesqe ornaments in Wayzata provide nice backdrops for many a XMas card.
