am i allowed to ask about you opinions on crossover ships? like, diabolik lovers and another anime?

I didn’t know this was a thing until I saw this ask! I did some googling and saw some compelling vampire knight x diabolik lovers fics👀

In previous fandoms I’ve been a part of, I never paid attention to crossovers, I’m more of the type to like everything to remain within the franchise’s universe (I’m thinking of making a masterpost of how vampire bodies/ the demon world functions because Rejet is ridiculously inconsistent)

My 13 year old self also fell victim to Vampire Knight (I can’t get enough of vampires yet huh) so I would be interested in seeing how VK’s world interacts with the DL universe lmao. Especially since in DL you can feel quite isolated, with 13 sadistic vampires around you ready to abuse you at any moment to get their nutrition💀 There are parts where the human students at their academy interact with Yui and she gets to be a normal 17 year old girl for a couple of minutes before she gets dragged out a diaboy. 😪

Ok, funny little fact, I was in Wattpad from when I was like, eleven I think?, until just two, one year ago. Shoma was created around 2018 or 2019 (I honestly don't remember at this point, I might be wrong). She was born in Wattpad and, funny enough, I saw so many tittles with 'Yui's lost sister' with that same dynamic that old me thought, "You know what, I'm going to do it my way. Fuck it.", and Shoma was born. Her personality was PAINFULLY, OBVIOUSLY based in Harley Queen and other characters and she wasn't exactly human and the way I wrote it makes me want to squeeze my phone like a dog toy.

GOOD THINGS (I think) THAT I DID THO: I actually gave a kind of "good reason" for Shoma and Yui to not like each other (Which, spoilers, is because of their own trauma towards Seiji and the Church, the brainwashing, the whole 'locked up in a basement' themes, which is kind of the same back then as now, but better executed and less "Wattpad" like?), and that I didn't want my girl to have any romantic feeling with the Diaboys. I wanted to be different, yes, but I also wanted something that would entertain others while reading and not be the same stuff but in different font. Something that would not make them hate Yui, nor roll their eyes at how ridiculous it was (back then what I wrote it wasn't considered that ridiculous).

But in short:

Is Shoma an angel? No, but she's a teen when the story starts AND when she finds Yui and the other boys. Do they Diaboys love her? Barely know her and most definitely would . Maybe Subaru may have bonded with her in another universe, but who knows.

Shū:

• He wouldn’t be as outward with his jealousy, if anything it’d be subdued.

• But if he is jealous, you wouldn’t know it.

• If there’s one thing he’s good at, it’s feigning ignorance and placing a wall.

• Canonically in the HDB and MB Anthropology Manga, Shū gets jealous by stupid things, and is in a sense, comical with it.

• He wouldn’t get fussy like Kanato or Ayato.

• More so annoyed that he’s finding himself attached to someone at this level again.

• All of the boys have a certain level of possessiveness, so it’s not shocking if Shū displays his in lethargic and apathetic fashion.

• He values those close to him, so he wouldn’t want to give away what’s his so quickly. That’s where a lot of the motivation towards being jealous can come from.

Reiji:

• Definitely stern and set with it.

• He takes his jealousy seriously, and wouldn’t want to find himself jealous over anything ‘stupid’ or ‘over the top.’

• Reiji will 100% pull his S/O aside and confront them head on about what bothers him.

• Although, at times he can choose to let it linger, waiting for his S/O to figure out what’s bothering him themselves.

• Almost like a game if anything, all at his S/O’s expense.

• He has no problem with punishing his S/O and blaming them for any unwanted advances or attention being made at them.

• His jealousy is more so triggered by Shū and anything to do with him.

• It sends him into a bit of a frenzy, since it’s all linked to his underlying inferiority complex. Which results in his own diminution of his own talents, which can come off as borderline masochistic.

Ayato:

• You’d know right off the bat if this man was jealous.

• He makes no attempt at concealing his true feelings when it comes to his S/O.

• If he’s upset, don’t be shocked when he does take certain things into his own hands.

• That being, if his S/O is being flirted with in front of him, he has no problem with exhibiting violence to show he possesses someone.

• Ayato is all about possession, and is easily one of the most possessive characters.

• So if he thinks his placement is being threatened, he will react in earnest.

• His jealousy can border the lines of unhealthy and obsessive.

• He’d try his best to resist the urge of marking his prey to showcase his property, but at the end of the day, what good would it do if not even his prey can see the faults?

Kanato:

• Easily one of the most explosive individuals to come into contact with.

• You’re threatening his place in his S/O’s life? It’s like alarms and warning bells going off in his mind.

• Due to his extreme mental instability and heavily implied bipolar disorder, he will switch up instantly if Kanato feels attacked or under heavy scrutiny.

• He has no problem with playing pouty and creating a fuss to appeal towards the ‘lolita’ and ‘cutesy’ side he likes to portray to the outside world.

• But in private? He’s a blamer or victim blamer 100%

• He will pin it all on his S/O, even if the circumstances were unavoidable towards his S/O. Kanato does not care.

• He will get physical. As seen within his routes, he does have temperament issues.

• So even if he does subdue himself from having any physical reactions, his S/O is in no way getting out of the heavy verbal abuse coming their way.

Laito:

• Laito is known to put up a wall, almost like Shū, in terms of concealing his true feelings.

• If he’s jealous, it’ll be in the subtext that one would have to take out to fully understand him.

• Laito is someone who, when jealous, wouldn’t want to admit it.

• With his horrible track record with others, he has a slight fear towards true love and the feelings that come with it.

• So for him being jealous, it would subconsciously tear him apart more than his S/O, if anything. That is, if he was to pursue punishment.

• He’d be sure to make his usual perverse remarks, doing anything to not seek out of the ordinary.

• As seen within his routes, he can switch whenever, keeping the Player and Yui on their toes. Expect that for his S/O.

• He’d keep more of an eye on his S/O, lest he becomes left in the past of his own ghosts and worries. It’ll all come in a full circle with Laito, with whatever he does, he knows to expect it to come back at him. Almost like karma.

Subaru:

• Subaru is quite aggressive. Just as an individual and how he can come off at times with his reactions and over the top emotional moments.

• So he wouldn’t take to it kindly with being placed in a position where he’s to be the jealous one.

• There’s two ways it can go. Either he’s flustered and embarrassed about feeling this type of way for his S/O, or he’s viscerally upset at the notion.

• As an individual, it depends on the situation and if he were to get physical with the person/object that is creating this feeling of jealousy within him.

• He’d subconsciously resent himself for feeling these emotions.

• As if someone like him didn’t have the right to even love, much less feel the need to have ownership over someone who didn’t feel the same way back.

• If he’s questioned about it by his S/O, he’d either respond with anger directed towards them for allowing it, or simply shut off and ignore their complaints/queries.

• Subaru tries to be complicit, but with his internal inferiority complex and hatred towards himself, it acts as a conduit for his conflicting feelings.

sakamaki/mukami name headcanons

Kanji can be picked and chosen into different combinations to mean different meanings in Japanese. I'm a Japanese teacher and I've chosen authentic names that Japanese people could use for names for the Sakamakis/Mukamis, and also wrote some descriptions for Sakamaki and Mukami as last names as well.

For the first names I've chosen, of course these are just my own personal headcanons. There are hundreds of other combinations they could be, as all of the boys have katakana names (they are only phonetic and have no meaning). Kanji, on the other hand, has meaning for each name. For example, 愛子 (Aiko) means "love child".

Sakamaki 逆巻 (chosen by Rejet)

What I found interesting about this last name is that there is two possible meanings for this kanji combination.

One is "to advance in beauty", and two is "to oppose beauty". Amazing parallels in that they literally oppose one another and contradict each other.

The Sakamakis are obviously gorgeous. But their personalities are the opposite of beauty. It's a perfect last name for them.

They concedingly exceed and advance in beauty just by being their physical selves, and yet their personalities are all but beautiful.

The literal meanings are pure poetry in themselves.

Shuu 秀 (excellent, superior)

Shuu is a little self-explanatory. The darling first child of Beatrix and Karlheinz, the heir to the throne. It's fitting that he is named in excellence and being literally SUPERIOR to fucking Reiji. Poor Reiji. And yet at the same time, he's absolutely not superior in terms of intelligence and wit like Reiji is. But he was literally named in honor of being superior to him, if not probably told ever since he was little that he was supposed to be naturally better than Reiji, if not all of his younger brothers in general, too. It makes me pity him.

Beatrix also probably named Shuu this as she knows that Cordelia and Christa are obviously married to her husband. She puts her foot down with this name and literally says that her son is superior to all possible children they might have.

Reiji 伶士 (talented gentleman)

Beatrix sees that she has her first child, and that's all she needed. I'm going to assume that Reiji was an unplanned pregnancy. She gives birth to Reiji and vows that she's going to keep Shuu as superior to him. She's going to raise him simply as a gentleman who is very talented in various pursuits. But that's unfortunately it. She doesn't want to acknowledge that Reiji could possibly ever be as great as Shuu, and she probably never would until her death and he kills her in the very name of trying to impress her.

He's talented, intelligent, and raised with manners of the greatest gentleman. She succeeded in what she wanted to achieve with Reiji, meanwhile failing substantially with her plans for Shuu due to the very hubris she raised him to have. It's sad.

Now Cordelia. Before I go onto the triplets, I'm going to say that once she found out she was pregnant with triplet sons, she already laid her plans out for what she wanted to do with them before they were even born. (This is my personal headcanon.) The names will speak for themselves and it's sickening.

Cordelia is of course a tw topic, so just a warning for the triplets below.

Ayato 絢人 (gorgeous person)

Ayato is gorgeous, point-black period. Yui obviously calls him the most beautiful man she's laid her eyes on, and it's of course natural genetics, but I believe that Cordelia literally drove this into Ayato that not only did he have to be "the best", but being "the best" also includes being the most beautiful/gorgeous/handsome man in existence. He probably has spent hours looking at himself in the mirror and growing jaded in how he looks because he seriously can't get more beautiful than he already is naturally. He might even consider plastic surgery. He probably wears makeup, grows immensely angry at seeing any imperfections along his face, and probably overcares for his hair and can make his hair have split ends in the very name of trying to keep it beautiful.

He probably hates any moles on his body.

Cordelia chose him to raise to be just as beautiful as her. She gets turned on in seeing how attractive her son has become.

Kanato 奏人 (person performing music)

The name speaks for itself. He sings to please his mother. He was raised to sing for her and perform for her until his throat bled and while she had sex. Cordelia chose Kanato not to raise as the most beautiful, and not for Laito's purpose, but instead to please her. She chose Ayato to be the most beautiful male counterpart to her. She chose Kanato to please her with his voice and perform for her. If not also making him a partial servant for her without the lore specifically going into this. It can explain why Kanato demands so much of sacrifices/Yui, because that's what he was raised to be like from his mother. He was awarded with sweets by his mother when he performed/sung well. Cordelia raised him to perform/sing for her to turn her on.

Laito 來人 (encouraging person)

You might be wondering how the hell I got to the conclusion that Cordelia chose Laito for his "purpose" with her out of just this name alone. If you think about what an "encouraging" person is, you can assume this can be encouraging anything. Raise her son to be a sexual deviant to please her and encourage her desires? Pretty much. She of course values beauty, and finds Ayato to be the most attractive, but she raises Laito specifically to encourage her own sexual deviance, so much so that she preys on her own sons. It's infuriating. Cordelia raised him to encourage her sexual pleasures, all until she finally decides he's a right age for her to prey after completely, which turns her on.

Subaru 昂 (noble)

What I couldn't determine was if Subaru was named for being noble/courageous, or a noble as in "prince". Either or fits. He's raised to be courageous enough to do biddings for his mother while she's locked up, and also raised to be jaded in the fact he is a prince and doesn't see himself as worthy. He has to be courageous and brave enough to start murdering and hurting others at a young age, and doing what his mother wants as she manipulates him in his younger life and up until now. It's sad, especially since he does not see himself in a good light at all, mainly due to all of the neglect.

Mukami 無神 (chosen by Rejet)

Mukami as a name means "no/null god". It's interesting because they were mortal beings made into literal gods, immortal and carnivorous fleshing for blood. They are in fact not a god, but instead a demon. It's an interesting name chosen for them, whether by Karlheinz or Ruki. If Karlheinz chose this, it's self-explanatory that he wants them to acknowledge they are in fact not gods. If Ruki chose this, then he realizes that they are still of flesh and bone, and does not want his brothers to assume that just because they have vampire fangs and a thirst for blood, does not mean that they are a god and shouldn't acknowledge all they've been through in their early lives.

Ruki 琉輝 (brilliant gemstone (specifically lapis lazuli))

Going to assume that his mother/parents chose this name for him, he was probably named based on the color of his eyes. A beautiful ocean blue, enough so to be associated with the brilliant lapis lazuli gemstone. Separating the two, Ruki simply being "brilliant" has a lot of potential. Brilliance in intelligence, academics, and beauty. He was raised to be just that: brilliant in his craft, meanwhile becoming vain that he is in fact, just as beautiful and handsome as a gemstone, enough so to consider himself a Master of any sacrifice.

Kou 光 (light, radiance)

Kou was an orphan within the sewers. Being named after something so bright could maybe one of his only memories of his former life before the sewers, or a name given to him by the orphanage/Ruki. Regardless of any option we choose to headcanon, his name is a stark contrast to what he used to be: an orphan boy in the shrouded darkness of the sewers, with hair of golden light, and blue eyes of radiance. So much so that others ab/sed him within the orphanage and outside of it along the streets. As much as Kou's light has been dimmed for so long, there's power in his name that no matter how much light can be dimmed, it can never be completely snuffed out.

Yuuma 勇優 (gentle bravery)

Yuuma, although not so much in his later life, but when he was a child he was probably more gentle and friendly. You can reference his childhood relationship with Shuu as a turning point in this. He's brave, as he gets sent to the orphanage and even if he is terrified, he puts on a brave face and does his best to remain gentle. However the orphanage toughens him up, and it's not a pleasant experience for him. His name can be an overall timeline for Yuuma in general. As a child, gentle. Getting older, more brave and less gentle. Even then, he has a gentleness with his plants and garden, and with his brothers even long after they were turned.

Azusa 亜寿紗 (long-time inferior, gauze)

Azusa's name probably hurts right alongside the triplets for me. Realizing that he was literally named after being inferior, for a long time, and he has the word "gauze" in his name just makes it hard for me to imagine for him growing up. He was literally given a name that says he is inferior to others. He uses gauze for his wounds, both by himself and others. And this is what makes me think that he gave this name to himself. Ruki certainly wouldn't choose a name like this for his younger brother, and I doubt the orphanage would do this unless feeling especially wicked and just naming this kid for being beat up with gauze and categorizing him as inferior to the other children. I can only imagine if the latter were true, he would have faced immense bullying because of his name alone.

I studied these for a long while before choosing them. Like I mentioned, there are hundreds of combinations for what their first names could be, and each personal headcanon are valid. These are just my own I chose! I hope you enjoyed! - Admin Azusa

Headcanons of Sakamaki Brothers’ Physical Attributes:

Shu:

overall, a soft looking appearance with sharp features

sad puppy eyes but theyre lifeless so kinda weirdly scary

sculpted like ancient greek statues

Reiji:

prominent cheekbones, thin, tight lips and an overall tighter face structure.

perfect eyebrows and fierce eyes

barely visible frown lines and wrinkles from the constant disdainful expressions thrown generously to all

I keep seeing a lot of misinterpretation when it comes to Ayato's and Yui's relationship, which is completely understandable.

BUT, I feel like we should at least be open to understanding their dynamic a bit more, considering that their relationship is a representation of how these two fleshed out, individual characters with their own archetypes and narratives interact with one another, and the kind of chemistry that festers between the two.

I heavily emphasize on the "understanding" part, because yes, they are 2D characters, but I'd like to go on a whim here and say the creators used these fictional people as a sort of criticism on the kind of society we live in, and how we as people view the differences between good and bad and where the line starts to blur and intertwines.

People will often mistake Ayato's abuse and trauma as just his personality entirely, which while his past may have had affected the way he interacts with others, I'd like to say that it doesn't absorb him completely, and to back this up, I'd like to reference Laito.

Unlike the rest of his brothers, Laito is completely unique to us the viewers, because of his lack of actuality and genuinity. Yes we can attribute both traits, or rather, lack thereof, to the other brothers, but at their core, they all have a defining cause, a motivation, something that separates them from their trauma. And they don't consistently hide it, they don't hide what makes them, them.

So when talking about Ayato, I feel like people look at his trauma and immediately think "he's selfish and stuck up because he was raised to be the best", BUT, who else do we know that was raised to be the best??

That's right, Shu. Shu was quite literally raised to be king of the bat clan. But yet, him and Ayato have two completely different personalities, so I'd like to say there must be that defining factor in there that causes and pushes them to be the way they are. I'd also like to take this chance to say, this is where I think the creators are giving a certain critique on child rearing and whether or not you've grown to be hysterical, maniacal, sadistic, masochistic, unmotivated, competitive, etc. it all stems from a greater problem within society and no matter HOW different you might think yourself to be, the root cause of multiple personality disorders, comes from child abuse. Which we can see just how far it spirals, evil breeds evil after all, and in this case the "evil" here, being attributed to domestic abuse.

(Sort of like a Neon Genesis Evangelion thing going on)

But anyways, I digress.

What I'm trying to get at is, he's quite LITERALLY more than his trauma. We often forget that he's a vampire and has lived through thousands of years, falling in and out of love and lust. Due to the very nature of being a vampire, it's clear to see that Ayato's unaccustomed to growing attached to, in their world, a piece of chocolate or even an old burger. (Yes I am referencing Spongebob, sue me) it'd be seen as stupid to begin to form feelings and bond with your food, unnatural even. I think a large part that makes up Ayato is the fact he's always in doubt of himself, even when he thinks he's known everything, some mystical force out there has to prove him wrong and shake his very system of belief. Rupture everything he's ever known and everything he's ever grown up knowing and practicing. This is why he'll often be seen taking out his frustrations on Yui, because like it or not, she is the cause of his turmoil, paired with his trauma.

I think this is where it's important we understand their dynamics because it goes a loooot deeper than their characters might even seem capable of.

I'll do another post talking about Yui tomorrow and then one final one explaining where they fit into each other and how their character archetypes pair really well, even if it's not the healthiest relationship, it still displays their characters in their truest forms
