pav rests his chin on miles' shoulder. "what'chu drawing, new guy!"

It'll only be a quick sketch : so goes the old little lie he tells himself so often, fading away under each stroke of pencil, marker, highlighter, ballpoint pen — whatever he'd manage to grab a handful of. He only had a few colours on hand, fingertips stained with splotches of green and gold, but the marker in his grip squeaked against the page in peals of pale pigment, a siren's song that urged him closer to the page as his hand danced to it, bold lines shaping the image of the skyline he couldn't tear his eyes away from.

A city boy through and through, even he craned his neck at Mumbattan, brown hues dazzled by the city that leapt and crawled but never stilled : a palimpsest of past and future converged across washing lines and highways, rising proud in grand arches and towers that scraped the sun and bathed them in its golden yolk. Perched up high, the city fills his eyes and yet he cannot see it all, even from up here. Perhaps he should swing down again, lower, sit upon the stone and sketch the passersby again — they moved quicker than his pencil could but he could catch them in a swoop of graphite, in the gesture of waving or buying or holding a hand. If he closed his eyes it would almost be like standing on a corner of Brooklyn, but even then the little details details brought him back, like —

— the whisper of coconut oil against his cheek.

Miles yelps and flails in a blur of limbs, sketchbook almost slipping, cheeks flushing at the amusement that twinkled in Pav's dark eyes. [ Ignore it, ignore it ! ]

❝ C'mon man, I was in the zone ! And I already told you, I'm not the new guy. ❞ He frowns halfheartedly, straightening his shoulders as though he hadn't been so easily startled. [ Seriously, where was spidey sense when you needed it ? ] It doesn't last long though, fingers tapping against the hardcover of his sketchbook tucked under his arm, glancing back to the view with a casual shrug.

Had he the heart to tell him the truth? To share that, despite all appearances and the visible efforts made to stabilise his reality, that it still may not be enough-- that they had passed the point of no return, due to Miles' interference with a canon event.

Upon reflection, he found that he could not, at least not so soon. After all, Pavitr himself still remained intact. There could still be a chance.
