do you like any actual good coach btw like lol??? mind you half the things you complain about these people for xavi does as well, complain about de zerbi for his ansu treatment like xavi wasn’t doing the same shit to him too. in fact xavi seems to be doing it to yet another player with vitor and he has very clear favorites. at least someone like de zerbi would instill good principles in gameplay to the youngsters and is used to working with squads that don’t have a lot of money available, what we mostly need rn is youngster development and he can provide that. barca fans have so much stockholm syndrome with xavi because of who he was as a player but he is not a good manager, has favorites, is stubborn, can’t teach youngsters who don’t already have positional principles in place (why he likes la masia kids so much), and generally refuses to get better by not upgrading his staff when the club is offering better people. don’t even get me started with his obsession with blaming everyone and everything for how shit the team plays.

I'm just not impressed with his defensive setup and that's our biggest issue at the moment. And I have criticised Xavi many many times and I've said that I'm okay with Xavi leaving granted we improve on him and I just don't think Dezerbi is as good as y'all make him out to be. His team concedes way too many goals.

Season Preview - 2019/2020

This season sees Sassuolo’s seventh straight Serie A campaign since their  maiden promotion back in 2013. A small-town club with big ambitions, bankrolled by building materials giant, Mapei. Their president, Giorgio Squinzi, is set on establishing Sassuolo as top flight mainstays and potentially more in the future. Boasting one of the peninsula’s most exciting tacticians in Roberto De Zerbi, the few fans who will make it to the Mapei Stadium will certainly be entertained. 

After a (reasonably) comfortable survival and 11th place finish in the previous campaign, it’s difficult to ask for more from a good squad, but one that represents more in potential than it does in finished product. Lots of youth, of which many on loan, sprinkled with a few experienced heads in the shape of Consigli, Peluso, and record appearance holder, Magnanelli.  

Each summer the club contends with one or two high profile departures; a year ago it was Politano and Acerbi, while this year Sensi and Lirola left for greener pastures. Given his form for Inter so far, Stefano Sensi will be hard to replace, but as always, Sassuolo have purchased wisely.

Not an atypical Sassuolo signing at 32 years old, Francesco Caputo is a shrewd piece of business on the back of 16 Serie A goals last season,  and already has 3 in 5 this campaign. Gregiore Defrel, brought back after experiences at Roma and Sampdoria, is a player who guarantees attacking quality with goals and assists. Along with Berardi, they’ll form the three-pronged attack in De Zerbi’s 4-3-3.

The enigma that is Domenico Berardi; caught between being a club symbol and a player constantly on the verge of moving away. I can’t remember a summer when Berardi wasn’t rumoured to be on his way out with nothing ever materializing. Voices around Sassuolo seem to suggest that Berardi chose to remain with the club, while others whisper that he’s holding out for the right move. For the time being, Berardi remains a bandiera for Sassuolo. His first 2 seasons in Serie A with the Neroverdi yielded double figured goal returns, but a knee-ligament injury at the beginning of season 2016-17 halted him just when it seemed like he was on the cusp of exploding. Goals have been less prolific since then, but Berardi has started this season with the determination to put that right - 5 strikes in 4 games complemented by a pair of assists. 

In midfield, Alfred Duncan has become a production line of assists and could be another player on the verge of shifting up a gear in his career. Obiang returns to Italy to join him, bringing the experience of over 100 West Ham appearances with him. Raw, 19-year-old, Hamed Traore was snapped up from Empoli, despite heavy interest from around the country, while Manuel Locatelli will want to begin repaying some of that promise he showed in his first few months at Milan.

Defence is probably where most of Sassuolo’s question marks appear and De Zerbi’s style doesn’t exactly lend itself to clean sheets. Consigli in goal is an experienced and safe pair of hands, but in front of him new boys Chiriches,  Müldür, Toljan are still struggling in their adaptation of Serie A and De Zerbi’s system. Even Ferrari, Peluso, and Marlon have been inconsistent and insecure. 

De Zerbi has refined his team’s intense press; immediately hitting teams with direct counters as soon as possession turns over and catching teams out of shape. With some further tuning (or January investment) in defence, Sassuolo could broaden their aspirations. For now there’s sufficient quality to steer clear of the relegation scrap, but probably not enough to challenge for Europe. Another comfortable season then, which should give President Squinzi the opportunity to contemplate how much longer he’ll be able to keep Berardi and De Zerbi on his books.

this is why i personally think de zerbi is a great option, maybe not for long term but it will be great for our younger players

Those are some good points I have to admit. Our youngsters have stagnated a bit or at least aren't developing in certain areas as they should currently so a coach who can help them with that would be nice for sure. Like Gavi became world class defensively and in counter pressing but we don't get to see his technicality and creativity to the point that people think he has none so our next definitely needs to put emphasis on that aspect of his game because it's most definitely there so if dezerbi can help him and our other youngsters then I'm fine with it. I still maintain my doubts about his ability to face our environment tho and also his character.
