So many times I think this verse is misunderstood. I think it’s possible that the writer meant to actually lay down your life, as in take the bullet for a friend. Yes, that’s possible. I, personally, think this is about giving people your time and energy. Setting your phone down to listen to a troubled friend. Maybe, just maybe, this is about putting our own lives on hold, just to be a supportive, attentive friend, family member, or co-worker. In our brokenness, we look to so many things for fulfillment. Some try drugs and end up with substance abuse problems. Many pour themselves into work and find themselves lacking for genuine relationships. To fill that hole inside, and to fill the cracks in our lives, we only need God. He is our Healer, our Father, and will make all things new. We are called to love Him with all our hearts, and l, in return, He gives us an eternal life of unconditional love, and plenty of forgiveness for ALL our sins. Our Lord is so incredibly faithful. In our weakest moments, His strength will see us through. His forgiveness affords is the strength to move forward without the guilt of a broken past.
