elisabethmossofficial: I had the great privilege and dream come true experience of collaborating with one of the most brilliant artists working today the choreographer @justin_peck on episode 2 this season… when I read that there was going to be a ballet in the script, he was the first and only person I thought of and I still can’t believe my luck that he said yes. He brought on board the stunning and gifted ballerina @devon.teusch who not only is a brilliant dancer but a brilliant actor as well and brought those skills to the performance. Everyone on set said it was their favorite day of filming they had ever had because we all just got to watch this beautiful performance all day. It was like a dream. Thank you so much to the both of you for bringing your artistry to the show and elevating everyone around you. And a special shout out to @jeanettedel who works with Justin, and was instrumental in helping to create this piece and bring it to the screen, @lk_costumes_ for this dream costume, and our prolific art dept led by our production designer @eliwilli2 and to @adrianacorne who took the reins on the creation of this spectacular set. And last but always first in my heart @nicdaleydp our cinematographer and @tomomenon our gaffer, and our camera operators @dinolaurenza and @brett_hurd 💙💙💙

Teuscher was impressive. She’s a more regal, upright dancer than Boylston; there’s something almost Athenian about her strong back, her pristine lines and gorgeous, classically-proportioned features. Her turns are centered, unshakeable, calm. In the “black swan” pas de deux, she executed 11 double solid fouetté turns, plus 12 single ones, and it looked like she could have kept going if the music had continued.

I feel like ABT has a *fairly* good set of principals right now. If they got Misty out (which they won’t do Bc money; I had a friend who worked for their box office and they get calls from people just wanting to see Misty) I feel like they would be in good shape. I really enjoy Devon Teuscher.

I’ve heard good things about Teuscher, and I’ve always been a big fan of Gillian Murphy. I use to really enjoy Alban Lendorf too who sadly left. I don’t think the problem is lack of talent but lack of rehearsals (Copeland aside.)

Ballet Asks

“Opinion on ida praetorius and on her Giselle?”

Um, she isn’t my choice but I’m sure she tried her best.

“Kondaurova’s Odette-Odile blows me away every time, she is exquisite. Who are your favorite Odette-Odiles? (Could be active or retired, established primas or diamonds in the rough)”

Oh Kondaurova is 10000% one of the best for sure, no doubt!  I also love Svetlana Zakharova and Devon Teuscher of ABT.  And then the Queen herself is Ulyana Lopatkina, but that has to be a given.

“Obraztsova is rehearsing Carmen for her debut, as she said herself, but the Bolshoi doesn’t have Carmen Suite scheduled in the near future? So guest performance? Gala? Anyways, thoughts? I just do not see Carmen in her personally, and she is always a tad bit behind the music in her rehearsal clips.”

I don’t understand her dancing Carmen, it is so weird and definitely not a role I EVER thought she would do.  I honestly have no idea when she would be dancing it, maybe in a hope beyond all hope she started rehearsing it super early for a debut next season??  I know that’s a delusion and non-existent fantasy in Russian companies though lol.

devon.teusch: Who’s watching the first two episodes of @handmaidsonhulu ?!?! Catch me dancing in Episode 2 Titled “Ballet” 🩰 I am beyond excited to finally share what came of one of the most inspiring and fulfilling memories from last year! To get to work so closely with the extraordinary @elisabethmossofficial who directed the episode, was a pinch me moment! Also to finally get the chance to work with the choreographer @justin_peck on this new creation was beyond exciting. And a special thank you to @jeanettedel for all your support and laughs along the way! So many other amazing artists involved and definitely a memory I will treasure forever.
