वाराही देवी: आदि शक्ति स्वरूपिणी मां के धाम का इतिहास [भाग-2] जनश्रुति है कि प्राचीन काल से ही यह स्थल गुह्य काली उपासना का केंद्र था. देवी के गणों को शांत रखने के लिए नरबलि का विधान था. यह बलि हर साल स्थानीय निवासियों के चार खामों वालिक या वल्का, चम्याल या चम्पाल, लमगड़िया व गहड़वाल या गढ़वाल में बारी-बारी से एक व्यक्ति की दी जाती थी. एक बार चम्याल खाम की वृद्धा के नाती की बारी आई. यह उसके कुल का अकेला वंशज बचा था. वह देवी की शरण में गई. देवी से प्रार्थना की. उसकी भक्ति से मां वाराही प्रसन्न हुईं. अभयदान दे देवी ने पूछा अब मेरे गणों को प्रसन्न रखने का उपाय करो. तो चारों खामों के प्रधानों ने इसके समाधान के लिए बग्वाल का उपाय निकाला. चारों खामों के पुरुष आपस में बग्वाल यानी पाषाण युद्ध करेंगे जिसमें पत्थरों की चोट से रक्त बहेगा और इससे गण संतुष्ट हो जाएंगे. पाषाण युद्ध की यह स्थली मंदिर परिसर में खोली खांड दुर्वाचौड़ में स्थित है. श्रावण शुक्ल एकादशी के दिन चारों खामों और सात थोकों के प्रधान सामूहिक पूजा अर्चना संपन्न कराते हैं. एकादशी को वाराही देवी मंदिर की पाषाणकालीन सभ्यता की याद दिलाने वाले उत्सव यानी शिला युद्ध की व्यवस्था में संलग्न चार खाम, सात तोक मंदिर के ठाकुर बागड़ पुजारी के साथ सबसे पहले डोली को पूजते हैं। . 💫Vivid⚡️✨Uttarakhand✨ . . The grand daughter on a visit to Rishikesh sends a picture of the Ganga and the ‘jhoola’ at night .. with the full moon .. and I am immediately reminded of Babuji’s poem and words from it ..

‘ये चाँद उदित होकर नभ में कुछ ताप मिटता जीवन का ..’ 

..  as I have mentioned before there are 3 ‘jhoolas’ now - Lachman Jhoola, Ram Jhoola, and Janaki Jhoola .. in my time and during my earlier visits to Rishikesh, often called DevBhoomi - the land of the devtas, the Gods - there was just one fragile bridge called Lachman jhoola , on which the director Sultan Ahmed asked me to ride and gallop a horse over it for the shot for the film Ganga ki Saugandh .. 

which I did .. with great apprehensions .. but once you go for it you go for it .. hesitancy often has given rise to incompetency , and a failure or an injury in such cases .. 

But the full  moon so beautiful .. its romance still so pertinent , despite mans first step and the ‘giant leap of mankind’ .. 

and the writer Ali Raza travelling with us for the location of Reshma aur Shera, my second film, to Jaisalmer as we drove down from Jaipur, and hearing the news of the Moon landing commented : ‘there goes all the romance and poetry of the Moon’ .. 

But the moon its brilliance and its power of the ethereal remains .. ever !!

It controls moods, tides and the sway of humanity .. some how .. ever ..

... and the sun .. its sets on another day ..

when you drive back in contemplative thought ..

the wizardry of life surrounding us all in an all enveloping labyrinth of lines stops and paragraphs .. lost at times and unable to find the opening to step out unscathed .. but it never does .. lost within those lanes of the ‘bhool bhulaiya’ of Lucknow .. 

the joys are of discovery .. of the discovery of that which has been done and forgotten and then the stumble upon it .. the ecstasy of joy and surprise and , ‘dear me when did I do this’ .. even when presented in a most creative form by the Ef .. in their brilliance ! 

The Ef .. they are forever brilliant ..
