Wayhaven Day 9: Fight

Nat remembers Petra saying to Farah how Rebecca had tried to interest her in gentler pursuits as a child, to dissuade her from the life that had swallowed her whole and taken her husband.

First came painting. Several formerly pristine white walls and a flustered nanny later, painting was off the menu.

Then came violin lessons. Several neighbour complaints and another nanny later, the violin was quietly put in a cupboard, never to be seen again.

But the dancing? The dancing had taken hold, even as Petra had taken up combat classes in college. And now, locked in a combative embrace that had Nat’s heart racing from more than exertion, Nat could see why.

Even now, Petra is still cool, still beautiful, only the flare of her nostrils revealing that they have been sparring for nearly an hour - Ava has been tied up in a meeting with Rebecca today, else she would be leading training. And Nat knows Ava well enough to know she has been impressed with Petra’s skill in the few sessions they have had together.

So caught up in thinking about Petra’s control and discipline (and wondering just how far that control and discipline might stretch) is she that she misses Petra’s foot hooking around her ankle, bringing them both crashing to the mat, Petra straddling Nat’s hips.

Nat isn’t sure what part she likes best - the sensation of Petra warm and shaking slightly from exertion in her lap...or the way that Petra’s breath hitches and her heart quickens, before turning her long beautiful face away.

“We should...uh--”

“We should.” Even as Nat acquiesces, she can't help the way her long fingers trail up and down Petra’s legs instinctively. Nor can she help the way those fingers clench in Petra’s thighs, holding her in place as she leans up for a kiss, given more than willingly, tongues picking up from where their sparring sticks, long since forgotten, left off.

Wayhaven Day 22: Window

Nat has discovered Titanic, and has fallen in love in a way that makes Petra almost jealous.

One morning - their first free morning in about a month - Petra is in bed, sketching absentmindedly, bringing shapes to life one flick of her wrist at a time, when Nat comes into her line of sight and Petra--

Petra short-circuits.

Nat’s robe is untied, and what little there is under the robe is skimpy enough that Petra blushes and averts her eyes, even now, months into their relationship.

Petra feels long, strong fingers tip her chin up so that cool, green eyes can meet warm, brown ones and she feels her cheeks flush at the dangerous glint in Nat’s eyes.

“Draw me like one of your French girls.”

A choked laugh is all Petra can offer at that, and, trying to regain some control over her traitorous heart, she gestures as calmly as she can manage at the bay window.

The soft light from the window illuminates equally soft features and lush curves, which Petra already knows that she won’t be able to capture as perfectly as she would like. Titian and Rosetti could not do justice to Nat. Nat, who is now sans robe and stripped to the waist, tracing shapes on soft skin with elegant fingers as she waits, watching like a hawk, for Petra’s patience to snap.

She need not wait long.

Petra looks up to see Unit Bravo walking with gifts of various shapes and sizes, and it is only then that she remembers that it is her birthday.

In fairness, she has been bound up in work at the station - and when not bound up in work, she has been bound up in Nat, trying to make up for what feels like several lifetimes worth of loneliness. A birthday seems a very trivial thing in comparison.

Or it does until Nat’s arms are around her, and the scent of cloves and nutmeg is all that fills her senses.

Nat has never been shy with her affection, in any way - Petra, who has not hugged anyone since before the London Olympics, cannot relate to that. But she doesn’t need to. Nat is free and open and so understanding that it hurts Petra’s heart that she cannot always do the same.

So, she coils her arms tighter around Nat and squeezes, wishing that she could express herself as eloquently as Nat can, wishing that she could stay like this forever, wishing--

But then, why would she wish, when she is here with Nat now?

“Oh!” Petra is stunned for a moment, before she flushes at the mention of Nat’s name.

“I--” The question seems to fluster Petra, and she flounders for a few moments, mouth opening and closing repeatedly as she tries to think of just one thing, when Nat lights up her world like the Sun without even trying.

“When she reads to me in other languages, I feel like I melt a little inside. Right about...here.” She gestures somewhere over where her heart would actually, biologically be, before looking down.

“That’s probably not what you wanted to hear--” Her hands are wringing anxiously, as they often are, and it is all she can do to still herself, remind herself that she is Nat’s and Nat is hers, and she can almost hear Nat’s voice telling her that no answer is silly, and that she must learn to trust herself, but--

But it never comes as naturally as it does with Nat. Nothing does.

Petra has always liked to watch people.

Not in a creepy way. But she likes to think about their lives, their history, their stories. All sparks for the cinders inside her, stoking a fire which she could use to create. Sometimes words, sometimes images, always snapshots of lives and souls.

Someday, Petra would like Nat to trust her enough to let her see her life, watch it in her eyes and hear it on her tongue, whispered between endearments against her skin. Someday, she thinks as Nat approaches her with a muffin in her hand and a smile on soft lips, she might.

“Oh!” Petra flushes a little, porcelain tinged pink, at the question, before furrowing her brow.

“Hmm...” She is deathly silent, has been now for so long that you almost want to shake her to check she’s alright, before she raises her head just a little and smiles slightly to herself, and she doesn’t seem to know she is speaking out loud.

“Nat took me stargazing once. She looks good in the moonlight.”

And just like that, the spell is broken, and she coughs before looking away, the delicate pink blush now an almost violent red.

“Ignore me, I--I got carried away.”

11. Do they have any special diet requirements? Are they a vegetarian? Vegan? Have any allergies?

Petra is a vegetarian, mostly because she isn’t a confident cook and she worries about making herself or others ill. But she’s grown to embrace it and cook more confidently.

18. What’s their favourite genre of: books, music, tv shows, films, video games and anything else

Petra likes watching period dramas, in part because of the restraint and the clarity of emotions.

Beyond that, she listens to classical music relatively frequently.

5. Who’s the stricter parent? Petra - I can’t see Nat refusing their little ones (TBC on that) anything. Petra kind of horrifies herself sometimes because she starts hearing herself sound like Rebecca, and Nat has to reassure her a lot.

6. Who kills the bugs in the house? Petra - a) I think Nat would release stuff and b) I think Petra would want to show that she can be useful, even if it’s in a really small way (I think N in general has a tendency to be a little overprotective)

7. How do they celebrate holidays? I don’t think they’d follow any specific external traditions - they would cherry-pick (secular) things (or older practices that have died out) that they like from the different places Nat has been over the centuries and make them their own. Spending time together is the main thing (they have a couple of different love languages, but their main shared one is quality time).

8. Who’s more likely to convince the other to come back to sleep in the morning? N A T. (I--I may have a WIP about this that I keep meaning to get to, shhhhhh)

9. Who’s the better cook? Petra, from necessity - she was a difficult child (not wayward, just high-maintenance), so if she had any Agency nannies they were fairly hands-off and she ended up fending for herself (which translates itself into extreme self-reliance now). Petra is pretty stubborn - she knows what she likes and has a general mentality of “if you want something done right, do it yourself”. And Nat likes to watch Petra cook, so it’s a win-win. (I may also have a more nebulous WIP idea about this, shhhhhhhhhh)

Nate/Mickey/Mason

Who felt romantic feelings first? Nate. 110% Nate. So the way this NxM poly route works (because I do not have it in me to leave M out in the cold on a “true” LT route, I don’t) is that Nate makes his interest in Mickey plain from the start, but Mickey kind of distrusts positive displays of emotion. And he then falls into a FWB arrangement with Mason that becomes “oops all feelings” (and both Mickey and Mason reach that stage at roughly the same point?). Meanwhile, Nate essentially courts Mickey and Mickey starts to realise that no, this isn’t a trick and yes, this beautiful, charming man is actually being kind to him with no ulterior motive. (I am ignoring the impending N-route angst for this, it does not exist)

Petra/Ava

What kind of nicknames do they call each other? Honestly, the most verbal affection they would give each other is using each other’s first names? They’re both quite stiff when it comes to verbal affection until they’re very deep relationship. Petra will probably stretch to “love” when they’ve been married for five years or so. Ava will probably actually use more French terms of endearment (ma chère, mon amour, ma belle).

Riona/Farah

What’s the wedding like? Who attends? Sunset wedding with everyone they know. Very bubbly. Nate is weeping, Adam sheds One Perfect Tear. They both walk down the aisle together. The ceremony itself is quick, but reception afterwards goes on well into the night.

Flufftober Day 15: Oblivious crush

Farah wasn’t known for conquests in the same way as Morgan - but she wasn’t blind.

At present, she was trapped between Petra and Nat in the library, eyes flicking anxiously between the two of them, feeling like she was intruding even in such a public place.

How Nat couldn’t hear Petra’s heart flutter when she looked at the vampire was beyond any of the rest of Unit Bravo’s understanding, and here, in the otherwise silent room, it beat like a drum.

Maybe it was for the best that Nat only looked at Petra when blonde brows were furrowed trying to understand some ancient text - the intensity of Nat’s stare would have made even Morgan blush, and Farah found herself excusing herself and resolving to go and annoy Ava, so she could feel like everything was as it should be.

Day 5: Moon

Nat couldn’t help but worry about the Detective - Petra had struggled with nightmares of Murphy’s attack every night, and even as she insisted she was fine through gritted teeth, even as she refused help from Elidor (who may or may not have received a tip-off from Nat herself) - she carried on, holding herself to an impossibly high standard.

Nat followed Petra’s erratic heartbeat almost instinctively, weaving through corridors until she found her, and her shoulders sagged in relief as she saw her unharmed on the balcony, bathed in moonlight. She looked less human in the light, more ethereal, with pale blonde hair catching the light and pale green eyes almost glowing as she looked at Nat uncertainly.

“I didn’t mean to wake anyone.” Ever formal, her voice was less steady than normal, and she didn’t seem to be able to hold Nat’s gaze.

“I was up. Got carried away in the library.” Nat smiled warmly, brown eyes searching Petra’s frame for any sign of physical distress. “I find it calms me.”

“Maybe I should join you.” Petra spoke quietly, but the reverberations that her words sent through Nat felt like a foghorn out at sea, calling her home.

Nat stood for a moment, unsure for the first time in decades, before laying a hand on Petra’s slender shoulder. Petra tensed at the touch at first, as she always did, but then--she relaxed into it, leaning into Nat--

Shocked at the uncharacteristic acceptance and reciprocation of affection, Nat’s breath caught in her throat.

“I’ll get you an armchair. Nice, dark leather to match your aesthetic.” And Petra laughed at that, the vibrations piercing Nat’s heart and releasing butterflies in her stomach that she didn’t even try to contain.

Despite having no libra placements, I could not honestly choose between my four favourite children, so I did them all

F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)? Riona (TWC) - I love how open she is to people. She is genuinely interested in their lives, and I admire that about her. Sophia (TWC) - Ok, I’m about to contradict this in a second but I do love how relentlessly she protects her own integrity, and how she stands firm in the face of external pressure. Stoicism is a really interesting character trait to me, and while I write her most often with her walls coming down (because lol that’s what we’re here for); I like how she’s able to stay calm and weather storms. Petra (TWC) - I want to protect this tall, dumb baby. There is just so much going on under the surface that I don’t even think she knows about, and once that dam breaks, she just has so much love to give. Cesca (LITG) - I feel frustrated often with Cesca, because there’s a lot of goodness in her that she allows to kind of sabotage herself when she thinks she doesn’t deserve something (as we will see in upcoming chapters...). G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most? Riona (TWC) - She’s sometimes a little...weak. That’s not the word I’m looking for exactly, but she’s very easy to manipulate, because she is very touch/affection-starved. She stayed with Bobby for about 5 years (on and off) because he was able to say what she wanted to hear, and she was able to kind of “put off” thinking about whether Mason was using her or not because she’s able to selectively ignore things she doesn’t want to address. Sophia (TWC) - Stubbornness. Honestly, I’m with Adam on this - she elevates it to a ✨fucking art form✨ Petra (TWC) - Emotional constipation Petra doesn’t just physically look like Ava, she also rivals Ava in terms of her emotional (il)literacy. Sometimes I feel bad for matching Nat with Petra, having had to deal with Ava for four centuries...only to then fall in love with a younger, dumber version. But then...that was the point 😈 Cesca (LITG) - Indecisiveness. I know I joke about my indecisiveness, but I can articulate the broad brushstrokes of what I want from my life, what emotional support I need and what steps I need to take to get there (even if I don’t then do it lol). Cesca hasn’t got a clue what she wants, because she’s been told what she should want all her life.
