I touch your lips and all at once the sparks go flying
Those devil lips that know so well the art of lying
And though I see the danger, still the flame grows higher
I know I must surrender to your kiss of fire
Just like a torch, you set the soul within me burning
I must go on, I'm on this road of no returning
And though it burns me and it turns me into ashes
My whole world crashes without your kiss of fire
I can't resist you, what good is there in trying?
What good is there denying you're all that I desire?
Since first I kissed you, my heart was yours completely
If I'm a slave, then it's a slave I want to be
Don't pity me, don't pity me

Joseph Mawle
Joseph Mawle Movies and TV Shows, Wiki, Biography, Wife, Height, Age and Net Worth
Joseph Mawle is a well-known English actor who has appeared in both film and television. This article will go into the interesting world of Joseph Mawle, from early years through his incredible career and personal life.Joseph Mawle Wiki / Biography
Joseph Mawle was born on 21st March 1974 in Oxford, England. He is most known for his performances in the tv series Game of Thrones as Benjen Stark, the film Ripper Street as Detective Inspector Jedediah Shine, the film Birdsong as Firebrace, the film The Passion as Jesus Christ, the film The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as Adar, and the film Troy: Fall of a City as Odysseus.
Early Life
His upbringing was distinctive because he was raised on a farm just outside Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, in a Victorian manor house. He comes from a Warwickshire family with a long history of farming spanning nine generations. His father, Richard, is still a farmer, and his mother was a teacher.
Joseph went to the Croft prep school on the outskirts of Stratford-upon-Avon when he was younger. His severe dyslexia was discovered during his school years and from the time he was 13 to the time he was 16, he attended a boarding school for students with exceptional needs. His journey to becoming an actor officially began with this encounter.
However, Joseph Mawle’s fate was different. He had labyrinthitis at the age of 16, which left him with a persistent tinnitus and a 70% hearing loss in the upper register. Despite these obstacles, Joseph was serious about pursuing his dream of performing.
He convinced the director of the neighborhood college in Stratford-upon-Avon to grant him permission to pursue a BTEC in performing arts while holding down a number of jobs, including those of a fitness trainer and dishwasher.
Joseph began acting around this time, appearing in shows with the Box Clever Theatre Company and mounting his own version of “Solo Hamlet.” He eventually received a scholarship to attend the esteemed Bristol Old Vic Theatre School as a result of his perseverance.
Career Beginnings
In 2002, Joseph Mawle received his diploma from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He made an appearance in Guinness tv commercials that same year. Joseph started his acting career despite not having an agent when he graduated from theatre school and worked as an assistant in a special needs school.
His breakthrough came in 2003 when he took on the role of Troilus in a Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory production of “Troilus and Cressida“. His performances in other plays, such as “Hamlet” at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton and “Antony and Cleopatra” at the Royal Exchange in Manchester in 2005, further enhanced his reputation.
But it was his performance in the 2006 television movie “Soundproof” that made him famous. The lead actor in this movie had to be deaf, and Joseph’s performance received favorable reviews. He was nominated for the RTS Breakthrough on Screen Award.

Matthew Lewis talks Ripper Street S5 in BBC interview
BBC has released a set of interviews with the writer and cast of Ripper Street ahead of the fifth season airing on BBC Two starting Monday, 19th June 2017. Matthew Lewis discussed about his character Sergeant Samuel Drummond’s development in the final season.
What has Drummond been doing since we last saw him in Series 4? Well Drummond and Mathilda have developed their relationship since the end of Season 4 and Drum has moved in to the Reid household and it's a little difficult for him to begin with, stepping into Reid's house and Reid's bedroom. But he slowly comes around to the idea. What we'll see throughout the series is that he helps Augustus Dove with a few little missions that he's got and Drum is very, very helpful in that respect and he becomes Detective Inspector.
Reid is also on the run. How does this affect Drummond and his relationship with Mathilda? It leaves Drummond in a very difficult position because he's torn between his loyalty to the police - which has been his driving force for his entire life and has got him out of the slums - and his love for Mathilda, which is so strong. As much as she starts to come around to the idea that her father is an outlaw, she still cannot bring herself to betray him and she doesn't want to see him caught. And Drummond's not entirely sure either as to Reid's guilt; the policeman in him is looking at the evidence, which is insurmountable. And he's got superiors telling him this, that and the other, but he's not an idiot and he can see inconsistencies somewhere along the line and also he knows Reid is a good man. He's always been a bit of a hero to Drum, and so as much as he's leaning towards believing that he is a criminal, he still can't, in the early episodes he still can't quite make that transition into completely believing that.
Is Drummond conflicted when Jedediah Shine takes over in Leman Street? When Inspector Shine first turns up at Leman Street, Drummond's still a Police Sergeant and he's very unsure of how to deal with this guy; you know, he comes in and he's brash and he's rude and everything that he holds dear as a policeman is completely at odds with everything that Drum stands for, everything that on the face of it Augustus Dove stands for and everything that Reid and Drake stood for when they were in charge of Leman Street; it's the antithesis to what we now hold as good policing. The idea of the jail not being full enough, you know, I mean the ultimate aim is to not have anyone in the cells so everyone's law-abiding, but it isn't how he approaches things; he wants to see the cells full of criminals; he wants to set an example, and he'll plant evidence and he will beat up any kind of suspects for confessions: it's everything that Drummond has been against for his entire career. He's a very honest person and so to begin with he has no idea how on earth he can possibly work under this guy.
Again this is another situation where he's being pulled between two people: Shine's telling him to get Mathilda to betray her father, and Mathilda's desperate that she cannot do that and he's just put in the middle of this impossible situation because frankly Shine terrifies him. And so yeah nothing is quite straightforward for Drummond this year; his home life is difficult; his professional life is difficult and he's just trying to get by and be a good copper and actually he's being played as a pawn in a game that is much bigger than he realises.
What impression does Augustus Dove have on Leman Street in this series? Augustus Dove is I suppose the ultimate puppet master of Leman Street at the minute; he's the one that's pulling all the strings to get Reid to make sure that they are arrested and ultimately put to hang because they're the only ones that know about Nathaniel and about Dove himself, and they're the only ones that can implicate him. And so he needs them out of the picture or at least their credibility completely shattered that no matter what they say, they will not be believed. And everyone at Leman Street are basically tools for him to achieve those ends and Drummond's relationship with Mathilda is highly valuable for Dove, who manipulates the situation masterfully and that's ultimately why Drummond ends up upstairs as an Inspector, because Dove is aware that he can use him and once all of that power of being a Detective goes to his head, and he loses sight of being an honest copper, then that's when bad things can happen. And Drummond, as much as he's a clever bloke, and he is a good policeman, he also has a stringent belief in the chain of command and a belief in authority.
Does pride play a part in Drummond's actions in Series 5? Drum gets a little bit lost in the world of Leman Street; he starts off when Shine first arrives, completely at a loss as to what he's going to do; how can he possibly continue to work under this man? We see him come to blows with Thatcher after Drum takes Mathilda's side and ends up informing Reid of a potential capture, which causes embarrassment for Thatcher. It gets to a point where he's literally at the end of his tether, he doesn't know how he can possibly stay in the police station under these conditions, and then all of a sudden it flips and they realise how valuable Drummond actually is. And it's Thatcher that goes on the dock as a Police Sergeant and obviously Drum becomes Detective Inspector and that power I think goes to his head. There’s the complete relief of suddenly having this position of authority that blinds him to the true reason why. He loses his way really and he talks down to Thatcher and he really enjoys the fact that he's been promoted above him.
How does it feel to be a part of the final series of Ripper Street? I feel really, really lucky to be here. I just hope that now we can give it the send off that it deserves, that after all the years that those guys have all put in that it gets what is required.
All seasons of Ripper Street are available on Amazon Prime UK and Amazon Prime US.

Thank you SO much for these!
And your additional message is spot on! His character is one of the most intriguing I’ve ever seen. Played to perfection by Joseph Mawle. I was very sad in season 5, but I think his complete arc is very fitting and perfect the way it is.
Most often I’m drawn to very tragic characters, where it’s MUCH more than just evil for evils sake lurking about.
There are reasons why Jedediah is what he is and does what he does. Do they excuse his behaviour? No.
But it reminds me to always remember to treat people with kindness because you have just NO idea what they have been through in the past, recently or even just minutes ago.
Thank you SO MUCH for always indulging me, @joemawle 😘

Could you may be make gifs of our dear detective inspector of k-division from his first scene of 2x08, after his practice in the ring, while Flight is taking off his boxing gloves and helping him into his shirt, etc. đŸ«
Muuuch love! 😘
Hello :)
Thank you so much for your request. It's never enough of Jedediah, and that scene is pretty good ;) I hope you will like the gifs.
Anytime I rewatch Ripper Street I have to recognize how beautifully written and built this character is. Even if he is a minor character they created him with deep care and I can't describe how I love he is a very-very bad man - I would be afraid of him in real life -, but he has a truly sensitive heart what he keeps in secret as long as possible. Maybe 'sensitive' is not the best word for his personality, but we can see how he suffers to control his emotions, his rage, his pain. I love one of his last scenes in the last season, when he faces Edmund on the street - in that scene he loses the control over his feelings, but not completely, he just lets something dark and painful out of his soul as he whispers to Edmund: "You and I, Edmund, at last you will know it, what it means to have all you are snatched from you, to be a half-man in a half-life with nought in your black heart but hate, hate." This proves he is not a mindless evil, something made him to do evil things and then his heart turned black slowly after a time. I always wanted to know more about his earlier life.
Thank you again for your message. Wish you a nice day ❀

Hello *waves* Since you wanted asks ... I'm curious, what are your top 3 Joseph Mawle characters? And what makes him so special in your eyes? Cheers!
Those are awesome questions! I suck at explaining my thoughts, sometimes I feel I don’t even know what they ARE exactly and I tend to give too much of a backstory, but I'll try my best.
Tumblr media
May be the second question first; What makes him so special in your eyes?
I'm from Germany, and though there are some good shows, I always find the actors performances lacking. I can 'feel' them acting, instead of 'being' the characters. No matter how good and experienced an actor is. It must be the German acting and directing culture, or may be the language, because when German actors are in international productions, they are so much better. Therefore, I tend to be very sensitive to people’s performances being natural.
I think Joseph Mawle is one of the most 'naturalistic' performers that I've ever seen. I can feel him 'be' that character. I think his 'disability' is what has let him grow into this, being hard of hearing and dyslexic. I think he's a master at non-verbal communication, and he conveys so much emotion through facial expressions and body language even in very fleeting moments, and it gives his characters so much depth. I think he's also forced to be very conscious of intonation, so every word carries very thought-out emotional meaning. In both cases you might not even catch it, but unconsciously it influences you. He's said himself that he takes longer to read and learn lines and I guess also to do research into a new character. I would also guess he therefore has to additionally use all other senses available to him very intensively to do so, and I think that can force an actor to get even more emotionally involved. I think that is reflected in the performances that I have seen so far, and it makes for an even more immersive experience of that story. It seems that he completely melts into his roles. It's so intense, you can't look away when he's on screen.
I also think the fact that he seems to avoid the limelight intentionally nowadays by more often than not choosing side characters or main ones in very niche genres, shows that he chooses his vocation for the sake of the art of acting itself, of wanting to tell and also experience that specific story arc of that specific character. He does not want to be side-tracked by anything else. This of course applies to many performers, but coupled with the above element, it makes for a very potent mix.
Therefore, I also think it is imperative to include many, many more people with 'disabilities' in any kind of art. It will make art bloom in full and reach its inherent potential of giving a unique kind of life to society.
I could say many, many more things about this unique individual, but I'll shut up
 for now.
Now onto the first question: What are your top 3 Joseph Mawle characters?
HARD!!! So UNFAIR!!!
So far I've seen him in: Sir Gadabout, Soundproof, Silent Witness, The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton, Persuasion, Merlin, Sometimes the Moon is Velvet, Murder on the Orient Express, Made in Dagenham, Women in Love, The Cold Light of Day, Twelve, In the Heart of the Sea, Ripper Street, A Winter's Tale, Game of Thrones, Troy - Fall of a City, Mr. Jones, Land's End, the music video to 'Behold the Hurricane', the TOYOTA commercial, the documentary 'Words of the Titanic' and The Rings of Power.
WOW! I did not realise how much I already HAVE seen. And still there is SO much to STILL see!
Special mentions beforehand: Captain Harry Harville from 'Persuasion' (2007). It was the first role I ever saw him in, back in ca. 2009. He has a special place in my heart. Sir Tificate from 'Sir Gadabout - The worst Knight in the Land', because I just LOVE the fact that he was part of a children’s show, and I'd found it, unexpectedly, VERY entertaining. AND Michael from 'Land's End'. That performance. The eyeliner. Bronski Beat's 'Smalltown Boy' is finally a permanent fixture on my favorite songs playlist.
In no particular order
 or
 may be yes
 or no

Detective Inspector Jedediah Shine (Ripper Street Seasons 2 & 5)
Tumblr media
While only the first season existed, I'd loved Bennet Drake, such a sweety, but the MOMENT Jedediah arrived on screen when the second season came along I was HOOKED. HOOKED I tell you! He was SO fascinating! Such a bastard, so self-assured, so confident and stylish. He also had some of the best lines I ever heard in any series. He seemed vulnerable and such a hard ass at the same time. And he TERRIFIED me! I'd never been terrified of any fictional character THAT intensely before. I just didn't know what he would decide to do next. I wanted him to lose and win at the same time. SUCH a roller coaster ride of emotions. An amazing performance. - And I am SO not a fan of the bulky kind of man, but DAMN
!
Tumblr media
Dean Whittingham (Soundproof)
Tumblr media
What he managed to do here is special. Not only to him, since it was his breakout role, but his execution of the depiction of the 'disability' of being deaf. He was praised in an article written by a deaf person who saw the movie. That is a feat. This story was also a roller coaster ride of feelings. Is Dean the murderer or not? Experiencing WITH him the frustration and helplessness of being dependent on another person translating while being accused and interviewed by police. There is a scene where he does suddenly verbalise his frustration because he is SO desperate, and the way he was able to produce that 'sound' was AMAZEBALLS! I fell in love with Joe’s talent all over again.
Adar (The Rings of Power)
Tumblr media
I've loved the design of the Uruks ever since I saw 'The Fellowship of the Ring' back in 2002, but to feel FOR and identify WITH them took the appearance of Adar. I think it was only at the beginning of last year, that I read that Joseph was a part of The Rings of Power, and I'd been excited about it long before that, but this information just increased my excitement by a MASSIVE amount. I was not disappointed. Adar is by far my absolute favourite character of the show, and it's in no small part because of Mr. Mawle’s embodiment of him. The moment he was on screen and I saw those tears in his eyes when 'saying' goodbye to Magrot
I was IN LOVE! I KNEW that this storyline would be something special and unique, and I am so happy that Joe was a part of that. There is still so much mystery around who he used to be, and so many interesting theories about what will happen to/with him, that I am still HEARTBROKEN about the recast. The coming together, the amalgamation of THAT character with THAT artist was a chemical reaction that resulted in a unique and very impactful experience.
There you have it.
End of my two-and-a-half page essay. Ooops
 sorry, not sorry.
Credits for the wonderful gifs featured here go to @joemawle
Thank you SO much for all the time and work you put into making them ❀
