Finally someone in office calling out international surrogacy for being a new form of human trafficking.
By Joshua Solano Nov 02, 2024, 4:13 am
THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) is sounding the alarm over the increase in human trafficking cases involving women recruited for illegal surrogacy abroad, following the repatriation of seven victims on October 23, 2024.
These women, aged 20 to 30, were recruited to work as surrogate mothers for unknown clients abroad, the BI said in a press release on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Merriam-Webster defines a surrogate mother as a "woman who becomes pregnant by artificial insemination or by implantation of a fertilized egg created by in vitro fertilization for the purpose of carrying the fetus to term for another person or persons."
The BI said three of the victims left the country under the guise of visiting relatives but fell victim to deceptive promises of surrogacy. The remaining four had no records and likely exited through unauthorized means, the BI added.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said investigations reveal a scheme where traffickers recruit online, then arrange complex travel through multiple borders to avoid detection.
“The Philippines is being targeted by traffickers who lure women with surrogacy offers. We urge Filipinos to avoid these offers, as surrogacy abroad often carries serious legal risks,” Viado said.
In October, 20 Filipino women were rescued by authorities after reportedly being trafficked to become surrogate mothers. Of the 20 women, 13 were pregnant through artificial means.
The pregnant women were supposed to be transferred to another country where they would give birth. The seven others were deported by the Cambodian government over immigration law violations. BI officers also intercepted a 37-year-old woman recruited for surrogacy and headed to Georgia on October 15.
Senator Risa Hontiveros, who chairs the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, has earlier sought the conduct of a congressional inquiry into this "new form" of a human trafficking scheme victimizing Filipino women. (JGS/SunStar Philippines)

I kept a running commentary of what was happening, so here is a very messy breakdown of QSMP's 11/11/23 stream!
cucurucho showed up in his house(?). it's storming outside, full lightning and thunder. this biome is ODD, it's all blue with the glowy trees.
he heads outside, farms some crops and checks the mailbox (it's empty) before going back inside.
he put the crops into his cupboards and sat at his tv before proceeding to watch slime's "juanaflippa" song
the duck cut his happy fun times short, playing the first cutscene from purgatory day one. cucurucho kept "no"ing it, and eventually turned it off.
his doorbell rang, and he opened it to see a worker with glasses standing outside (we've seen him before with polispol!)
the worker gave him a note: "census bureau, sorry for interrupting you at your residency. there is a problem at the spawn. it seems there is a toxic matter and we don't know how it originated." as well as three pictures of the black concrete-covered spawn
cucurucho went to a small office in his house and pressed a red button named "panic button." the following message played: "this is an emergency meeting. all workers are required to assist until the situation is resolved. the infection is spreading. there is no identifiable source of it yet." he then said "i don't know why."
he started a report: "226+8 a.r. REPORT: Bad news [has] arrived. A meeting needs to be arranged. It has been raining for days."
another cutscene: "urgent! quesadilla island cleanup attempts have failed. the substance is spreading at an alarming rate and has reached federation offices. and emergency meeting must be held."
dialog cutscene: CUCURUCHO: "WA02, report for an urgent meeting at the office. CUCURUCHO: "..." CUCURUCHO: "WB012, report for an urgent meeting at the office. Sanitary masks are mandatory." WB012: "Understood, sir!"
there's black concrete all over the entire main federation offices. it's everywhere. there are workers inside trying to clean it up. cucurucho checks all the offices before taking some of the workers through a warp plate to the auditorium where the A0 event was (where there is also concrete, but not as much).
"this is an emergency meeting. all workers are required to assist until the situation is resolved. the infection is spreading. there is no identifiable source of it yet." (repeated message from earlier)
one worker's report: “As you know the residents have been sent off to egg island. We have reason to believe a third party has intervened and we cannot contact anyone anymore. It’s not safe for the residents. We need to get them back.”
another report: “Our friend and co-worker WA02 is missing [for] weeks now. We still don’t know what happened to them.”
another report: “We still haven’t figured out who murdered all of our colleagues and our lead detective is not here.” (this worker—agent 18—was very upset.)
another report: “the northeast office and the team reported a paper about a stray signal sent by one of their captive subjects, a binary entity, we are in need of signal blocking equipment as soon as possible.” (the second page involved this worker's evil plot to get everyone to drink apple juice.)
another report: "THE COFFEE MACHINE BROKE AND I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE PLEASE BRING THE COFFEE MACHINE BACK I AM COPING WITH TEA PLEASE T E A"
cutscene: “The quantity of issues is unacceptable. All workers will be tasked with handling the infection unless told otherwise. Follow me.”
the workers and cucurucho returned to the train station, which did look a little bit better than yesterday. he sent one of the workers off in a boat from near foolish's dragon, saying "follow protocol. return the residents to quesadilla island." (o7 worker)
he ordered one of the workers to work on the train station before heading to the president's office and leaving a message for forever: "MR PRESIDENT, PLEASE MESSAGE ME ONCE YOU['VE] RETURNED. IT IS URGENT. :)"
he then added to his report: "It is everywhere. There are many more issues that have been reported. We need to check on: the code entity we kidnapped, what happened to WA02, someone has been sent to egg island, apparently the coffee machine broke as well…"
the adoption center has been practically destroyedblocks are missing like explosive damage and there's concrete everywhere. there's concrete all over the wall. he ordered one of the workers to work on the adoption center.
cucurucho went back to the main offices and wrote a new book: "PLEASE CHECK ON THE STATU[E]S OF THE SUBSTANCE AND REPORT BACK TO ME ASAP TOMORROW!" he then ordered a worker to clean up the offices. (he may have given this book to this worker; i missed that part.)
he then added to his report: "All workers have been assigned to their area. we can only hope that the rain will stop and the work will be done before the residents return"
he then returned to his house and went down a secret elevator into a room lined with rows of barrels. he named his report "226+8 a.r." and put it in it's proper place by date before returning to his office and pressing the panic button again: “The shadow virus has spread to a dangerous level. Under our advisors recommendation, the federation will retrieve the stranded islanders, thus suspending protocol AB.”
"I hope you enjoy the island." the stream ended with no fanfare.

NBC's Law & Order Franchise -- A Franchise in Disarray
NBC's Law & Order franchise (which started with the original series in 1990) has seen numerous changes over the years, but in this post-COVID-19 era of television, some of these new changes are not for the good.
Tumblr media
The Law & Order 2022 reboot is lacking what made it's original run legacy television, Special Victims Unit lost a beloved show runner/executive producer (Warren Leight who decided the leave at the end of season 23) and cast member (Kelli Giddish, who was fired at the start of season 24, which later resulted in controversy as details of her firing came to light), and Organized Crime which has had a revolving door of show runners/executive producers since it's inception BEFORE it even made it to air.
I'm going to start in sequential order in which negative change [IN MY OPINION] came into play with this once beloved TV franchise that was once taglined by critics and press as "Must See TV/Most Watched Television"
Please Click the read more tab below to read my thoughts on the brand and what I feel can be done to correct the course of the brand, before it's too late... hang on to your seats!
Law & Order: Organized Crime (2021-present, season 3) - a Disorganized Mess.
The Christopher Meloni led series has had numerous complications behind the scenes since the show's inception pre-production. Chicago P.D.'s Matt Olmstead co-created the show with Dick Wolf (and later Ilene Chaiken) and Olmstead left the production after the pilot ("What Happens in Puglia") to be replaced by Chaiken (of The L Word fame). Law & Order: OC never started with much of a premise and a way to establish itself as it started with Stabler mostly bringing Kathy Stabler's killers (the Wheatley's: portrayed by Dylan McDermott and Tamara Taylor) to justice. And in between that, Stabler and the unit going in and out of undercover assignments. The Organized Crime Control Bureau has never really been fleshed out since the series start; season 3 brought some new detectives into the fold to assist with that but storylines in the serialized series have been all over the place.
While Organized Crime was meant to distance itself from the formula of the Law & Order brand, it doesn't feel like a Law & Order show - it feels more like the Stabler show to where we mostly see Stabler as IMO this almost vigilante cop seeking retribution, in this day and age (and Stabler's because he should definitely be matured from this kind of mindset), it doesn't work. This show lacks "the Law & Order feel" (title cards don't even exist in this show except for one episode, "Gimmie Shelter") and I believe it's why the series doesn't hold audience much as SVU or even the rebooted mothership.
It doesn't help that the show is now on it's 6th show runner, being SVU's David Graziano (who is surrounded by a controversy of his own that seems to be being pushed under the rug and ignored by higher ups at the network and at Wolf Entertainment). Olmstead, Chaiken, Barry O'Brien, Bryan Goluboff from SVU, Sean Jablonski and now Graziano. What ever is going on behind the scenes at OC needs to come to a full stop otherwise this show won't make it to syndication status (5 seasons, 100 episodes). This show has a super talented cast that deserve the best; Danielle Moné Truitt and Ainsley Sieger absolutely shine!
Law & Order (reboot 2022-present, season 2) - more like crash & burn.
Now this show is really pushing my buttons and it's only because of how the stories are being written for this reboot starting from the very first episode. Dick Wolf and the network decided to give the mothership it's very much deserved second chance (it never should have been canceled) and they've managed to put together a stellar cast out of Jeffery Donovan (Burn Notice), Hugh Dancy (Hannibal), Odelya Halevi, and Camryn Manheim. Sam Waterston returned as Jack McCoy and this season Mehcad Brooks (Supergirl, Necessary Roughness) replaced Anthony Anderson who only opted to do one season.
I'm not going to sugar coat this, making Rick Eid (who 'developed' a show that was already developed once back in 1988/1990 when he was still in grade school - it's a reboot where nothing has changed formula wise!) the show runner/EP over this series is a very poor business decision. Eid has had a poor history within the Law & Order franchise itself. He was part of a writing team that Dick Wolf and the network had to intervene and dismiss back in 2007 due to declining ratings on mother ship due to the decline in the quality of the writing at that time, Wolf made him show runner over Law & Order: SVU's 18th season and Eid "had to move on [to Chicago P.D.]", basically for the same reason. The. Same. Reason. It's a case of "Fool me once, fool me twice," we're on the 3rd now.
From the minute "The Right Thing" hit the airwaves, I knew it was 2007/2016 all over again! The reboot storylines are tone-deaf, have massive plot holes, pull directly from the headlines without much deviance, skew to certain political leanings (hard left and right) and is shoved into the faces of viewers, and problems with legal strategy that actually go against the actual law and procedures that wouldn't even wash in an actual courtroom (and yes I am aware it's work of fiction but that is why they have legal advisors on the payroll - or at least I hope).
And the characters? Caricatures. I can't really root for any of them - Samantha Maroun & Jalen Shaw (Halevi & Brooks who are great) are the closet ones who are actually being fleshed out as characters that can be relatable/likable. Cosgrove and Price need work bad! Cosgrove is basically a more hard-core Elliot Stabler with a thick Bronx accent in one episode and then another episode he's a young Lennie Briscoe/Michael Westen from Burn Notice mix; it's not consistent. Most seem to prefer him portraying Cosgrove in a Michael Westen-ish style as opposed to Stabler 2.0 (if that's the case swap Donovan and Meloni).
Nolan Price? I don't know where to start. Who is Nolan Price? I don't know honestly but I can tell you he is NOT a great prosecutor. He's no Mike Cutter, McCoy or even Ben or Peter Stone. Price is written just as inconsistent as Cosgrove is and the cases as they make it to court and trial make Price worse, because it seems ambition and wanting to win is the only thing this character has. "Bias" that just aired showcased Price as a colleague was murdered and he had a personal investment in the case. He should have be recused and maybe even suspended due to his misconduct. And Price's arrogance in this episode, telling Jack McCoy that he let him run with the case because "I'm the best." I love Hugh Dancy and he's a magnificent actor but this writing is hurting this role for him in my view.
And speaking of McCoy, where the hell is he? I understand Sam Waterston can't do what he was doing back in 2007 in the courtroom scenes and he is the district attorney but my goodness, his scenes "lack meat" now, it's all bone. Jack says something pithy about the case, yells a little, and walks out his office/elevator/outside. Eid said in an interview that he wanted McCoy to walk in the shoes of Adam Schiff (Steven Hill), if that's the case Schiff was way more involved in his prosecutors cases and had more say in the direction the cases go. Again, it goes back to the writing.
Unlike on OC, Law & Order could use a show runner change, and it could use it ASAP, because what's airing as quality in this reboot is tarnishing the legacy that the original mothership established.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999-present, season 24) - what is going on behind the scenes and on screen is especially heinous.
Warren Leight's departure last year was the catalyst, however Kelli Giddish's firing was the irresistible force slamming the immovable object - so to speak. Kelli Giddish was fired in place of Wolf/NBC wanting younger blood (Molly Burnett, Days of our Lives); not even a year prior Wolf/NBC faced a form of backlash after dropping two cast members of color - Demore Barnes and Jamie Gray Hyder - in exchange for one male (Octavio Pisano). Star Mariska Hargitay tried to step in to keep Kelli on the show but she was overruled by Wolf and the network.
Meanwhile something that hasn't been overruled but more overlooked; new show runner David Graziano's prior and current accusations of bullying, misogyny, and toxic behavior on sets and behind the scenes of show's he's worked on, including SVU. Graziano took to his Instagram to try and 'explain' his accusations but he did not deny them. How can you write and supervise any kind of story about women's empowerment, healing after trauma and sexual assault, inclusiveness, and justice as someone who has/is doing personal actions against that very stance? And how can Dick Wolf and NBC over look it? Money talks in short. He's also running OC for the last 3 episodes in this season.
That aside which is problematic of itself, like the mother ship, the storylines on SVU have taken a turn sideways. Season 24 started off pretty solid, it wasn't the best it's been in it's prime and younger years (S3-7, and again S13-17), but it was passable to view. Now? Post-Kelli Giddish it seems like the focus is on Muncy (Burnett), Velasco (Pisano) and the recurring guest cast (Kevin Kane and Jasmine Batchelor); ICE T and Peter Scanavino's screen time is noticeably decreased this season than season's past. And like mothership's storylines, inconsistency is on display in full view.
Under Graziano in his first 6 episodes (Gimmie Shelter is written by Rick Eid and Gwen Sigan as part of the season premiere crossover) were the solid ones, even before Kelli's last episode I felt a change in tone coming into play; and coming off of the season's Bronx trilogy its even more noticeable. It's like it's a mix of Eid's season 18 and some other show that's NOT SVU. The focus has gone off of the survivors, veteran characters, the pursuit of the worst criminal offenders, the pursuit of justice and the unit itself. SVU has gone off of the rails and if they want this show to continue to break records and preserve the legacy that it has both on and off screen, they better make some changes fast. SVU's ratings haven't exactly decreased but all this 'change' could soon have a negative impact on them; SVU's dominate the entire franchise right now as a show that's consistently been on air for 24 years now in a changing TV landscape.
In summary/my suggestion(s): the Law & Order franchise needs to undergo some major changes behind the scenes, starting with the gentlemen running these shows. I don't directly want to call for the dismissal of show runners/executive producers Rick Eid and David Graziano (certainly from SVU) but I do feel this is the start absent them being given a different set of marching orders that they should follow (not likely). The issues I brought up above only touch the surface, I don't want to sound nit-picky but things could and should be better.
This franchise is 33 years old and still going, and it could go longer and further but if there aren't any immediate changes that make an impact and turn things around, and the shows keep going about as they are: this franchise won't be around much longer. "The Story Is Everything" is what Dick Wolf has said about the L&O brand and NBC even used that as a tagline during the prime years on the network 2003-2007. That's where the investment needs to start.

But don't talk to him about the divorce, because of the hairball thing, and also, it gives Portico the frets. What's also giving him frets is his parents living on two separate floors in their apartment building. He's never fully with one parent or the other. He's in-between, all the time. The in-between time. And the elevator is busted, so to get between floors means getting past the bullies who hang in the stairwells. So when Portico and new friend, Herbert, and best best friend, Zola, discover an empty apartment, unlocked, they are psyched. It's a perfect hideout, and hangout, and it's not half anyone's... it's all theirs. So they decide to make it their own...let's say with stunts of the drawing kind. Problem is, that gives some Grown Up People the frets, which leads to double frets for Portico. And he's not sure his arsenal of stunts can combat that.

In the days after O’Shae Sibley, a Black gay man, was killed during an altercation outside a gas station in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn, the picture that emerged suggested an explosive combination of homophobia, religious intolerance and racism.
A witness said a group of men that included the teenager charged in the killing used homophobic slurs and told Mr. Sibley that they were Muslim, and he should stop dancing. Some initial media reports picked up that account. Mayor Eric Adams and the police held a news conference at which the mayor stressed that the killing was not evidence of Muslim hatred of gay people.
Now, it appears the man charged with Mr. Sibley’s murder is not Muslim at all. The suspect, Dmitry Popov, 17, is Christian, his lawyer said, altering at least one aspect of a killing that has drawn national attention.
Mr. Sibley’s death had raised concerns about how the charged accusations could hurt relations between two marginalized communities, gay people and Muslims. In fact, the two groups stood together.
At the news conference on Saturday, Mr. Adams, joined by leaders from the city’s gay and Muslim communities, said that both L.G.B.T.Q. people and Muslims have been victims of hate, and the two communities “stand united against fighting any form of hate in this city.”
Mr. Sibley, a dancer and choreographer, was returning from New Jersey to his home in Brooklyn on the evening of Saturday, July 29, when he and his four friends stopped at the gas station, the police said. As the men filled up their car, they played music by Beyoncé and danced, and a group of men approached and told them to stop.

The men yelled homophobic slurs and anti-Black statements at Mr. Sibley and his friends, according to Joseph Kenny, an assistant chief at the Police Department’s detective bureau, at a news conference on Saturday.
Summy Ullah, a 32-year-old gas station attendant who witnessed the encounter, said one of the young men said, “I’m Muslim. I don’t want this here.”
Within minutes, the heated verbal altercation had turned violent, according to the police. Mr. Sibley was stabbed once in the chest, Mr. Kenny said. He was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Mr. Popov, 17, a high school student from Brooklyn, turned himself in last Friday and was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree murder as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon. He was denied bail in State Supreme Court in Brooklyn on Monday and is being held in detention.
Court documents said that a witness heard the group with Mr. Popov say, “Stop dancing here, we are Muslim.”
But at the court hearing and in an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Popov’s lawyer, Mark Henry Pollard, pushed back against some of the initial narrative: Mr. Popov is not Muslim, Mr. Pollard said.
“He’s Christian,” he said in a phone interview. “Somehow they got it confused, he’s not a Muslim. I could understand if there were other friends that were, but he was the only person arrested.”
Right after Mr. Sibley was stabbed, Mr. Ullah tried to chase down the attacker.
“I’m Muslim myself,” said Mr. Ullah, who immigrated from Pakistan. “When I saw them dancing, I was laughing too, but I wasn’t making fun of them. Everyone has their own perspective, gay, transgender. We have gay people in our countries as well. You don’t make fun of them. They don’t say anything to you. They aren’t making fun of you.”
Sayeda Haider, 23, arrived at the gas station shortly after the stabbing and found Mr. Sibley’s friends weeping. She comforted them and told them she hoped their friend’s killer would be caught.
Days later, Ms. Haider, who is Muslim, said she had reflected on the possibility that someone used her religion to justify an act of violence.
“It can’t be because of religion, because we dance,” she said. “We are strict, but we’ll dance at parties.”
In Islam, as in many religions, there are extremists who reject L.G.B.T.Q. people, she said, but she said that she had been raised to let people live their lives as they choose.
“We also came here because of freedom, because of the rights, so let other people have their rights too,” she said.
Soniya Ali, executive director of the Muslim Community Center, who also spoke at the news conference on Saturday, said it was not a “surprise or a shock” that the narrative that the person who killed Mr. Sibley was Muslim spread in the news media. Ms. Ali said she had neither experienced or witnessed any backlash from the gay community since Mr. Sibley’s killing.
She said she spoke on Saturday to show support for the L.G.B.T.Q. community in New York City, who she said were the first ones to reach out after former President Donald J. Trump instituted a travel ban soon after taking office barring visitors from six predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.
What’s important now, she said, is making sure that the focus remains on the tragedy of Mr. Sibley’s “senseless murder.”
“He was murdered. It was a hate crime,” she said. “That’s the gist of it.”
For Beckenbaur Hamilton, 51, a neighbor and friend of Mr. Sibley, the attacker’s religion is not important.
“That part isn’t even relevant,” said Mr. Hamilton, who is gay. “It doesn’t matter if he is Christian, Muslim, Jewish. If a person takes a person’s life he should be held accountable.”

Blog Post #4: Our Shared Nightmares: Decoding & Deconstructing The Horror Genre
Tumblr media
Set in New York City where there is never a shortage of rain pouring over the city. We meet a veteran detective named Somerset played by Morgan Freeman. Somerset is a man who believes he has seen everything within the years on the force, and there is nothing that surprises him anymore. Somerset is soon appointed a new partner who also has experience as a detective named Mills played by Brad Pitt. Mills is the total opposite of Somerset. Mills is a man from the country and is not as informed or used to the city as much as Somerset is. Mills waits no time jumping on a case and quickly concludes without solid evidence. These two different dynamics working together leads them to their first murder scene. Director David's Fincher movie “Seven” brings the two detectives to the crime scene of an obese man who has just been murdered in his kitchen.
The murdered victim seems to be no different than any other crime scene until more information is discovered. Somerset sees every inch of the crime and finds the house packed with food and Mills discovers the man has been tied up and had a bucket filled with his own vomit. In the middle of searching throughout the crime scene we see Somerset tell Mills to go outside and question people. Which gets Mills upset because he believes he is way beyond that type of work. This scene shows the differences between both characters and how Fincher is creating a gap between them that begins to close as the movie progresses. (23:00 to 23:30) Somerset who believes there is something more to obese man murder goes back to the crime scene and finds the words gluttony scribbled behind the fridge. When the murder of the Defense Attorney is discovered, we see the word greed written in blood on the carpet. These two murders bring Somerset to believe that there dealing with a serial killer who is using the seven deadly sins to murder people. Mills seems as if never heard of these sins but is still eager to take the case as Somerset is more reluctant about it.
Although Somerset is reluctant at first to oversee this case, he is still intrigued by it and does his own research. Somerset goes to the library and looks at books such as Dante's Inferno, Milton's Paradise Lost and Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Director Fincher is showing viewers and symbolizing certain literature to be a base for the use of the seven deadly sins within the movie. police. With the knowledge Somerset gains from going to the library  he lends a hand to Millis by leaving a book that might help with the case.
The third murder victim is a man that was strapped to his bed for over a year. We see how mutilated his body is and surprised that he is still alive, let alone breathing. (1:03:29 to 1:04:00) Both Millis and Somerset talk about the cases and go over a quote the murderer left behind “Long is the way. And hard that out of hell leads up to light”. Somerset talks about them showing up to the crime scene exactly one year after it happened. He believes that the murderer wanted them to find the crime scene on that exact day, although Mills believes it is nothing more than a coincidence and his luck will soon run out. Somerset talks about how meticulous the murderer is and how everything he is doing was always planned from the start. Director David Fincher shows us that this is not an ordinary serial killer, especially since he never leaves evidence behind even going as far as cutting his fingers so none of his fingerprints are left as well.
Somerset then thinks of a way to figure out the name of this mysterious killer. He figures out that certain books that are taken out are flagged by the FBI. Somerset puts in a request from one of his friends to the bureau and finds the location of a man named John Doe. (1:08:00 to 1:14:24) When they get to the location, they run into John who shoots at them while he is trying to escape. Both Somerset and Mills run off in separate directions to try and catch up to him. One of the most important scenes in this sequence is when John holds the gun to Millis head for a few seconds and does not shoot him. Deciding not to kill Mills is what makes his plans for symbolizing each sin towards the end of the movie complete.
John Doe embodies the characteristics of being methodical and smart, even when he lets himself get arrested by walking into the police station covered in blood of his recent victim. He ends making a deal with law enforcement by stating that he would show them where he hid the bodies of his last two victims. But he only wants to be accompanied by Somerset and Mills to the location. (1:43:00 to 1:44:03) As they all drive to the destination Mills questions John and tells he is not as important as he thinks he is. John responds by stating that he is not important, and that Millis has not seen the entire act yet. Which makes Millis respond by saying that he wants to see the final act and John lets him know that he will not miss it. This scene purposely foreshadows the horrific scene and faith for detective Millis, who never saw it coming.
The last five minutes of the film Director David Fincher makes you question if Mills actions were justified. Towards the end of the movie we get a shocking discovery of Mills wife being John’s 6th murder victim, with he states is his own sin of envy after being jealous of Mills relationship with his wife. (1:58:00 to 2:00:00 )   John tells Mills to get angry and let his rage out. Somerset, fully understanding what John wants to accomplish, tells Millis to give up his gun. John informs Mills of the death of his unborn child and with all his emotions flaring Mills kills John, which became the sin of wrath completing all seven deadly sins.
Overall I would give this movie a 5-star rating. The color, pacing and the placement of the different camera shots were amazing. The pacing of the movie, the storyline is easy to follow, it is thrilling and enjoyable. The incorporation of the seven deadly sins made the movie feel it gave off more than just a film about two detectives and them trying to solve a case.

THE UK’S CYBER SECURITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT CHIEFS have issued an urgent alert to Black Friday bargain hunters after new figures revealed rising losses to online scammers during the festive shopping season. Clothing, high-end tech products and even cars were among the products featuring in scams as GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and Action Fraud revealed that Brits reported losing over £11.5 million to online criminals between November 2023 and January 2024 – with each victim losing £695 on average. This compares to reported losses amounting to £10.6 million the previous year. The new figures are published on the same day as the NCSC launches a nationwide campaign, as part of Stop! Think Fraud, to encourage people to set-up 2-step verification on their most important accounts. The latest figures, which come from reports made to Action Fraud and analysed by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), revealed that 7,168 reports (43%) mentioned a social media platform, with online marketplaces being mentioned in 18.9% of reports. The figures also revealed that those aged 30-39 submitted the largest number of reports (23%), closely followed by 40–49-year-olds (20%). The average age of victims was 42. Lord Hanson, Fraud Minister, said: “We know that more needs to be done to tackle online fraud. “That’s why we are delighted to support initiatives like this, through the Stop! Think Fraud campaign, which provide practical, actionable advice to the public to stay safe from scams. “And our message to anyone shopping online as we approach Black Friday is simple: if you come across anything that doesn’t feel right – stop what you’re doing, break contact, and do not click any links. “This government is committed to defeating this scourge and we will continue our work with industry and other partners to better protect the public from this appalling crime.” No one is immune to fraud, so shoppers are encouraged to exercise vigilance against tactics that push them to act quickly without thinking. Criminals often create false urgency by using limited-time offers or promoting items that seem scarce or not widely available. If you’ve seen something that doesn’t feel right, stop. - Break the contact and don’t click on any links - Research the company or seller by looking at reviews on trusted review sites Shoppers can also protect their online accounts by setting up two-step verification which provides an extra layer of protection and means that even if a criminal knows your password, they still won’t be able to access it. Adam Mercer, Deputy Head of Action Fraud, said: “Everyone will be looking to snap up good Black Friday deals and bargains whilst shopping this festive period, but unfortunately this doesn’t stop fraudsters from targeting members of the public online. “With Action Fraud data revealing more than 16,000 reports of online shopping fraud over last year’s festive period, we are urging people to shop safely online - especially if you’re buying on social media - and avoid being left empty handed for the holiday season. “Never feel pressured into buying anything online - creating a false sense of urgency is a tell-tale sign of a fraudster. Whether you are shopping on online marketplaces, social media or retailers, avoid bank transfers if you can, and use a credit card as it can provide more protection if anything goes wrong. “You can protect yourself from fraudsters this festive season by following the practical advice on the Stop! Think Fraud website to help you shop online safely.” NCSC CEO Richard Horne said: “As we head into the holiday shopping season, people are understandably eager to find the best deals online. “Unfortunately, this is also prime time for cyber criminals, who exploit bargain hunters with increasingly sophisticated scams – sometimes crafted using AI – making them harder to detect. “To stay protected, I strongly recommend following our online shopping guidance, including setting up 2-step verification and creating memorable but secure passwords using three random words.” For more information on how to protect yourself, search for “Stop! Think Fraud”. Read the full article

Credit Bureau Services Procurement Intelligence: Key Trends and Insights
The credit bureau services market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12.6% from 2024 to 2030. The market for credit bureaus is expected to grow in the next few years due to the rising demand for credit cards. Credit card benefits, such as unlimited reward points with usage, insurance protection, discounts, and cashback, help increase credit scores. Further, credit card issuers provide credit bureaus with details about cardholder activity that help them confirm each customer's credit ratings, which serve as the foundation for loan applications.
As per the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank report, 82% of adults had a credit card in 2023, and 36% of adults applied for some type of credit in 2023. The adults with a minimum income of USD 100,000 held a credit card in the U.S. in 2023. The rate of credit card applications remained robust throughout 2023 in the U.S.; it reached 29% in October 2023. Due to these factors, the usage of credit cards has increased, which in turn has led to an expansion in the market for credit bureaus.
A credit bureau acquires and maintains track of a variety of credit-related insights on users and organizations, such as loans taken, overdraft facilities, and credit card usage. Increasingly, credit bureaus are partnering or collaborating with fintech companies to provide custom data analytics due to increasing demand for credit from new-to-credit (NTC) consumers. For instance, in 2023, credit bureaus witnessed more pronounced changes in the consumer credit market. As per the TransUnion report, the demand for auto and home equity loans has been steadily increasing since 2023. However, with increasing preference for credit products, the delinquency levels for personal loans and credit cards also rose in 2023.
According to TransUnion’s 2023 Consumer Pulse study, 26% of Americans planned to seek a credit instrument in 2024. Of those, 53% wanted a credit card, 23% wanted a car lease or loan and 22% wanted a personal loan. Credit limits increased by 26% in 2023, as per Equifax estimates. The share of NTC customers dropped from 17% in September 2022 to 14% in September 2023. Despite this drop, consumption-led demand continues to drive the demand for credit globally. In India, between July to September 2023, in the MSME sector, NTC customers accounted for 46% of the credit demand. They are expected to drive growth notably.
The North American region accounts for the largest category share due to an increase in the number of people looking for credit products like loans and credit cards amidst rising consumer awareness of the importance of maintaining a good credit score and routinely checking credit reports. In most places, there are primarily three major credit bureaus in the world - Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. However, a few medium-sized private credit bureaus are also present in a few countries apart from these three giant players.

Companies are concentrating their efforts on introducing cutting-edge technologies to strengthen their position in the industry. Blockchain technology enables instantaneous and transparent transaction initiation and execution amongst many parties. For instance:
• In May 2024, Equifax collaborated with the commerce platform, VTEX, to help prevent fraud for merchants worldwide. VTEX’s platform will utilize Equifax’s robust fraud prevention and detection capabilities and “Kount Payment Fraud” solution in this partnership. This will help both B2C and B2B merchants secure their business while providing enhanced customer solutions.
• In March 2024, TransUnion introduced its new platform called “OneTru” for managing, analyzing and providing data-related insights about customers. The platform unifies separate data and analytical resources designed for fraud prevention, credit risk, and marketing and then consolidates them into a single unified integrated layer. This strategy enables TransUnion to provide a more accurate, comprehensive and compliant picture of customers, regardless of the use case.
Credit bureaus possess high bargaining power primarily due to their unique position as information aggregators and providers in the financial landscape. They collect and maintain detailed credit histories of individuals and businesses, which are crucial for lenders and other financial institutions to assess creditworthiness. This information asymmetry gives credit bureaus significant leverage when negotiating with clients, including banks, credit card companies, and other financial entities. Additionally, regulatory barriers and limited competition in the industry contribute to their strong bargaining position. As a result, credit bureaus can influence market dynamics and often dictate terms that favor their interests.
The credit bureau services industry is highly consolidated in nature. Globally, more than 50% - 60% of the market is dominated by three players - Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. The concentrated industry structure of credit bureau services can be attributed to several factors. First, the nature of the industry requires a high level of trust, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. This leads to a preference for established players with proven track records. Additionally, the entry barriers are relatively high due to the complexity of the services, the need for extensive data management systems, and the regulatory environment. As a result, a few dominant players tend to dominate the market, creating a concentrated industry structure.
The major cost components are salaries of professionals, IT and infrastructure, operational and administrative expenses, legal and marketing. Credit bureaus and IT technology play a vital role in maintaining accurate and efficient credit reporting systems. The importance of investing in IT technology lies in its ability to streamline processes, reduce errors, and enhance security measures. This, in turn, ensures that consumers receive fair credit assessments and financial institutions can make informed decisions. While the cost of implementing and updating IT systems may be significant, the benefits of improved data management, faster access to information, and better risk management far outweigh the expenses.
The category is based on a subscription pricing model, where a full report can be generated with credit scores depending upon the subscription period. The subscription plan could be for one year, 6 months, monthly, or one time as per company requirement. For instance, TransUnion CIBIL, an India-based credit information company, charges Rs 550 for credit report with a credit score. The element affecting the cost structure for credit bureau services is labor cost and software cost used in this industry. Credit bureau services come with various features, such as identity theft insurance and card activity alerts which require investment in software and acquiring labor.
Countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, and Australia are preferred business destinations for these services. People in these countries give significant importance to credit scores which determine their financial competency and self-esteem. One of the essential sourcing practices for this category is engaging and negotiating with more than one supplier to acquire a holistic package of services. For instance, different credit bureau companies are providing a different set of services with credit report services. Experian can provide services such as credit scores and reports along with offering loans. In contrast, CRIF High Mark can offer credit scores and reports along with analytics services such as the deduplication platform. Therefore, businesses are required to negotiate and source the appropriate suppliers to get a whole sum report at affordable prices. Other sourcing practices considered in the category are competitor pricing strategies evaluation and payment terms.

Police consider murder charges as Nex Benedict’s family pursues independent investigation
Police in Owasso, Oklahoma are walking back claims that Nex Benedict’s death was not “a result of trauma” as at least one investigator has said he’s examining the school bathroom attack on the nonbinary teen as a possible murder. Benedict’s family has pledged to conduct an independent investigation into the teen’s death. This last weekend, LGBTQ+ community members held weekend vigils in Benedict’s memory. Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s head of education Ryan Walters has blasted “left-wing media” coverage of Benedict’s death and said that the teen’s death hasn’t changed his strong support for anti-LGBTQ+ school policies, even as people blame Walters’ policies for encouraging the attack on the teen. Related: Video shows nonbinary teen Nex Benedict reflecting on fight before their death Oklahoma police released new body cam footage, though the cause of death remains unclear. Last Wednesday, the Owasso Police Department (OPD) posted a statement to its Facebook page. The statement said that Benedict’s death on February 8 was unrelated to the trauma they sustained after being attacked by three freshman girls in their school bathroom on February 7. Stay connected to your community Connect with the issues and events that impact your community at home and beyond by subscribing to our daily newsletter. However, OPD spokesperson Lieutenant Nick Boatman told the investigative news site Popular Information that the medical examiner never specifically said that Benedict “did not die from something as a result of that fight.” In fact, it will take weeks until the medical examiner can determine an official cause of death, pending a toxicology report from the state’s Bureau of Investigation. The report’s findings could take weeks to determine. Nevertheless, large sections of the OPD’s statement were copied verbatim from a February 20 statement released by Owasso Public Schools, the aforementioned publication noted. The police statement sought to confirm facts previously stated by the school that were later versed through police interviews with school officials, Boatman told the publication. Boatman acknowledged that the OPD’s statement “kind of came across as us being a voice piece for the school” and said that the OPD released its inaccurate statement to “head off some of this national scrutiny” around the student’s death. Boatman also said that murder charges are still “on the table,” despite the OPD’s earlier statement. A February 9 “Affidavit for Search Warrant” by OPD Detective Penny Hamrick explicitly stated that investigators were actively looking into the teen’s death as a “murder.” Popular Information A side-by-side comparison of verbatim phrases used in statements from Benedict’s school district and OPD. An attorney representing Benedict’s family said that the family would conduct its own investigation, including “independently interviewing witnesses and collecting all available evidence,” Popular Information reported. Gay Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) has called for a federal investigation into Benedict’s death. “Nex Benedict’s death is a horrific tragedy and cannot be allowed to go overlooked. I stand by @HRC [the Human Rights Campaign] in calling for a federal investigation into what happened,” Torres wrote in a February 23 post on X. “I fear a dangerous climate of right-wing anti-LQBTQ+ rhetoric played a role in the unjust end to a young promising life.” Nicole McAfee, executive director of the state LGBTQ+ advocacy group Freedom Oklahoma, told The Hill, “I hope that we will see an independent investigation. I hope that Nex’s indigenous identity will be recognized … and the fact that they were both beaten and died on tribal land, in that will mean resources from the FBI and [Department of Justice] into finding out what happened in this scenario.” “I hope that we will see an independent autopsy as well given the long history of very politically convenient… http://dlvr.it/T3Hz28
