Nerdy's Wayhaven Chronicles Writing Masterpost
Detectives: Ethan Langford - Charismatic, flirty, attractive, outwardly full of confidence, inwardly struggling with feelings and events. Romancing Adam.
Henry Kingston - Nerdy, introverted, getting a little soft around the edges, doesn't quite believe he's as capable or special as those around him think he is. Romancing Nate.
Briana (Bree) Young - Former wild child, dedicated to her job because it gives her structure and goals, has a softer heart than she realizes, more that happy to fan the flames with Mason. Romancing Mason.
Prompt fills for Wayhaven Frights 2021
Stormy Night (Henry/Nate) - Henry wakes up to watch a storm, Nate joins him
Thriller (Henry/Nate, a continuation of Stormy Night) - Things go from stormy to steamy. Henry and Nate make out. Both parts are together on AO3
Harvest (Bree/Mason) - Mason and Bree at the local pick-your-own orchard. Did I make this into a Twilight joke about apples and vampires? Yes, yes I did. It was low hanging fruit (pun intended).
In the Shadows (Bree/Mason) - What if you no longer fear what lingers in the shadows?
Hide and Seek (Ethan/Adam) - Adam is very good at trying to hide his emotions and Ethan is at a breaking point for trying to seek them out.
Haunting (Bree) - Bree ponders Rook and Rebecca's life together
Isolation (Ethan/Adam) - Ethan’s been shut up alone inside his apartment dealing with the flu and Adam comes to check on him. It’s flirty fluff, mostly on Ethan’s part. Even sick he’s absolutely incorrigible. Also on AO3
Killer (Henry/Nate) - Here’s Nate and Henry pondering lobsters.
Nightmare (Ethan) - Guess who’s not processing the whole thing with Murphy very well, it’s Ethan.
Apocalypse ( Bree/Mason) - It's time for the Wayhaven Gala and the world must have ended because Mason is wearing a fancy suit.
Creature Feature (Henry/Nate) - Nate finds Henry in the library doing research and Nate definitely has a weak spot for a man who likes research.
Living Dead (Henry) - Henry's thoughts on getting turned in a vampire
Masked (Ethan/Adam) - Guess who’s hiding emotions? It’s Adam! *jazz hands*
Whispers (follow up to Nightmare, Ethan/Adam) - Ethan goes outside to clear his head and eventually a certain someone comes to join him.
Hunter (Bobby and Ethan) - Bobby's on the prowl on a Friday night
Full Moon (Bree/Mason) - Sittin' on the dock looking at some inviting water
Misc Writing
A Glass of Goodwill (Ethan/Adam) - A gift is offered. Adam is stubborn and Ethan is incorrigible.

Cam’s song Changes (written by Harry along with country singer-songwriter Lori McKenna and producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson) dropped in some parts of the world this morning, and it is LOVELY! It is a twangy country song about growing up and getting out of your hometown and seeing the world change and you with it. I really think Cam buried the lead when advertising this song, as the best lyric is clearly, “I was falling in love in a back seat, giving it away like my heart won’t ever break. Had such a young heart drinking cheap wine…”. Hmmm...does this sound familiar to anyone? Of course it does! Fans had a great time comparing this song to Fearless and We Made It (and, honestly, yes. I agree). But that is not enough music news for Harry: SiriusXM started releasing videos of Harry’s New York performance in February (whoa a lifetime ago), including Kiwi, Golden, and Lights Up. The performances are, as always, ELECTRIC, and I can’t wait to be able to see them live, eventually.
Zayn is back and he’s posting Better promotion on instagram (the song, not like...he’s doing a better job...oh, you know what I mean). He hasn’t blessed us with any more covers since yesterday, but he’s active, so I think we’ll be hearing more from him very soon….Maybe some of those songs he registered last month? Please???
All I want for Christmas is...for Liam to branch out and add Tech Expert to his resume alongside ‘YouTuber’ and ‘Tik Tok sensation’? Well, maybe that’s a hyperspecific demand, but it seems like I’m in luck! Liam will be joining the speaker line up of Web Summit 2020, which is a program which “brings together the people and companies redefining the global tech industry”. Liam *is* a recording tech expert, but that’s probably not what they tapped him - this is likely to do with the way he is putting on consistent and quality virtual concerts in a way that has massively transformed the potential for fan engagement in socially distant times. Congrats, Liam, because you’ve worked really hard! And he’s not done working! Liam took to instagram to call fans “detectives” for figuring out that his Christmas collaboration was Dixie D’Amelio, and promising “fun” leading up to the Holidays with Dixie and her family” (uh, do you think that her parents are gonna be involved or just her super successful 16 year old Tik Tokker sister Charlie?). Anyways, as much as I would LOVE to say that we are indeed detectives (because we are!) , the credit for letting the cat out of the bag this time goes to Dixie herself, who posted a Tik Tok of her singing the song. This, on top of the speculation that already existed, was all the confirmation we needed to know what was happening. Liam also filmed a few episodes of a podcast Happy Hour with veteran YouTuber JaackMaate on his show, where he and his friends chat with people about their jobs and their lives in a relaxed way. And! If you bought tickets to LP Act 3, check your inbox - Liam has sent information on how to access the concert, and also some pre-emptive tech support links. I don’t know if that’s a good sign or a bad one.
Niall was, again, very busy with promo, appearing on Live with Ryan Secrest and hitting all of the Royal Albert Hall talking points we’ve been hearing, but he also took the time to interact with fans on Twitter! He tells us that he’s not going to be doing anything for Halloween (“can’t go anywhere in big groups”), that he loves Bruce Springsteen, and that he’ll do a live striptease if “Slow Hands” passes a billion streams by next week. Look, I know I keep saying this, but, uh #PLEASEdontstripitdownNiall. BUT! Do show us more of your skincare routine, which is what he did on insta: he posted a pic of himself in a facemask saying, “You’ll all be saying after RAH, ‘Niall you were glowing!’ and I’ll say… ‘I know’”.
And, Louis showed us how quickly he works when he has a goal in mind: after the unfortunate matter of merch shipping only to certain regions of the world yesterday, Backstreet Merch (the company in charge of his stuff) quickly took to twitter to say that, “We will be expanding our shipping zones to all of South America and India...within the next 48 hours.” And that’s exactly what happened! Not only that, Central America and Singapore are also on the list (catch ALL OF MY FAMILY rocking their Walls merch), although Mexico is not, and Backstreet Merch has said they have no current plans to ship to Mexico, which, hmmm. But look, I just gotta say that in 48 hours, Louis listened to his fans who have supported him (he sold out TWO stadiums in Argentina!) and quickly made his merch more accessible. Honestly, I love this man. And those countries certainly deserve it – can your country say Walls was its best selling album last week? Argentina can! Both Harry albums and Heartbreak Weather were also in the top ten.
However, I may have said good riddance to Celebtm too soon ( :{( ). TMZ has picked up their second mess of an article and is now distributing that. On top of this, Michael Straus has contacted both Judge Judy and the People’s Court to see if they can get some cable airtime and settle the small claim on TV - which, to be clear, Briana has to agree to, but it seems likely. Celebtm (despite saying yesterday they weren’t going to report on this until January when the court case happened, okaaaay) made a statement telling Briana to take the TV offers seriously so that Louis’ “child support” (quotes theirs, not mine) wouldn’t go to her legal fees. They went on to say, “We only see #onedirection here. To #EndIt on television and win your freedom to love ❤️ again with the next victim. Thank you #1DFamily for supporting #louistomlinson during these chaotic #1D times”. We DO support Louis, which is more than I can say for celebtm. It might bring a little thrill to see a media outlet proclaiming End It, but is it a good thing for Louis? No. This is happening because of the response they're getting and unless someone makes them (mark this down cause you won't see me saying this usually but omg LTHQ will you please get in here and shut this talk down?) they won't stop with this nonsense (see: yesterday's Larry Stylinson article) until the fans stop cheering them on. Speaking of nonsense on Instagram, Lou the golden retriever, the influencer dog fans headcanon-ed was the one HSHQ posted, decided he wanted a piece of the pie and has joined the swollen ranks of accounts falsely claiming a connection to Harry. There are many, including deuxmoi who post an endless stream of made up stories, but also the occasional credible sounding fan report such as yesterday's of Harry at a gym in the UK, and, um, WOW! It’s one of those fitness classes where you alternate your running pace to accelerate your heart rate, and the fan account claimed that Harry’s base pace (that is, comfortable running pace) is 10 mph, which is a 6 minute mile, or a 5k in 18 minutes. Uh, WHAT?? Guys, that’s it: I’m officially a stan, I love this man, and I want to go on a run with him.
#harry#zayn#niall#louis#okay a few things#i cannot tell you how much i dislike writing about the celebtm thing#i mean sometimes we have some really fun upbeat days (like today or Monday!)#then in comes celebtm and here we go again with this#like no <3#i dont like it#and i want so many good things for Louis and this just seems to get messier and messier#and i want to reiterate that i dont want my posts reposted to instagram in particular right not#*now#we work hard on these but its for yall and for us not for some shitty gossip site#and they have proven to be really shitty#and yeah were asking for LTHQ to do something like PLEASE shut this convo down#also massive shout out to discourse without whom todays post would not have gone up#because i would have binned it the moment celebtm reopened their mouths#i love her lots#*her = discourse#and our blog titles match now !!! yay!!!#anyways!#song of the day!#Changes by Cam#because OF COURSE!!!!!

Malignant Review: James Wan Returns To Horror
https://ift.tt/3E62GEn
Director, writer and producer James Wan is perhaps the most commercially successful and influential voice in horror filmmaking in the 21st century. His relatively small output of moderately priced yet undeniably effective movies, such as Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring, have launched or reinvigorated subgenres of their own, with the latter even spawning an entire cinematic universe. So fans can be excused for bemoaning his absence from the genre (even though he continued to produce films) for the past few years while he toiled on the Fast and Furious and Aquaman franchises.
Now Wan has returned to his roots with Malignant, not just the first horror movie he’s directed since 2016’s The Conjuring 2 but his first all-new, original outing in the genre since the first Conjuring back in 2013. And while the film does contain a number of Wan trademarks—incredible sound design and music, the suffocating use of negative space giving way to sudden shocks—Malignant is also a different beast again from the torture-driven procedural he initiated with Saw, the dark fantasia of Insidious, and the spiritual hauntings of the Conjuring series. Malignant is, of all things, a monster movie.
That’s not to say it’s entirely successful at what Wan sets out to do, but Malignant is different and, up to a point, fast-moving enough to ride roughshod over some increasingly dumb script developments. It’s only when the inevitable twist is fully revealed and all the cards are on the table that Malignant really falters. The film is also not helped by a bland turn from star Annabelle Wallis (The Mummy), who simply does not have the screen presence necessary to carry this story and its bizarre turns on her own.
Malignant opens in a lab, which in a movie like this means a medical chamber of horrors. A team of doctors is working feverishly to prevent the awakening of someone or something called Gabriel, which even unseen generates the kind of sounds that instantly fill one with dread. As the scene progresses and the blood and mayhem begin to flow, the head doctor defiantly proclaims to the camera, “It’s time to cut out the cancer.”
What does this all mean? We don’t know, but we jump ahead years later to meet Madison (Wallis), a pregnant young woman whose abusive husband is killed in a bizarre home invasion that also costs Madison the life of her baby and leaves her extremely traumatized. As Madison tries to recover with the help of her sister Sydney (Maddie Hasson), while the detectives on the case (George Young and Michole Briana White) come up with nothing but dead ends, Madison experiences a psychic link to the murderer as the latter kills again and again — with all the victims sharing a long-buried connection.
This is the point at which we can go no further into the plot without delving deeply into spoiler territory, and whether you end up liking Malignant or not, we’re not about to spoil the truly insane revelation at the center of the movie for you. While we had our suspicions, the twist is still bold and shocking enough that it should be savored on its own terms.

Movies
Aquaman 2: James Wan Promises More Serious Tone, New Worlds
By David Crow
The combination of this gruesome turn of events, in a movie that’s already quite grisly, and with the wild energy that Wan brings to the first half of the movie, makes Malignant a B-movie shock show with a unique menace at its heart, and a distinctly 1980s vibe. Elements of that era’s body horror and giallo strains (when filmmakers like David Cronenberg and Dario Argento were hitting their strides) are also evident in the narrative structure and outlandish concepts Wan deploys.
Once the secret is out, however, Malignant doesn’t really go anywhere else for its last half hour or so. Wan uses all his skills to wring suspense, terror, and dread out of the film and largely succeeds for most of its length, but it feels like nobody really gave a lot of thought to what happens after the big shock.
The best performances in the film come from Hasson, who generates warmth and loyalty toward her sister even under increasingly frightening circumstances (although her big solo scene is cliché), and Young, whose journey from skepticism to belief as Det. Shaw is both logical and well-portrayed. We wish we could say the same for White as Shaw’s partner, Regina Moss, whose refusal to believe her own eyes ultimately becomes silly.
Despite its uneven cast and shaky narrative structure, Malignant is fun for quite a while. We called it a monster movie and that’s what it is, and there’s something refreshingly straightforward about that. It may not end up among Wan’s best efforts, but the movie does make it clear that he still loves the genre, even as he plays around with different tropes than before.
Malignant opens in theaters and on HBO Max on Friday, Sept. 10.

Ok, ok, ok since I've i've been going through some of the different Wayhaven Chronicles routes, I guess I should write out some stuff about my detectives. Not sure if I'll do anything with any of them but they're holding my attention more than anything else has in months soooo....
First up, Detective Young!
Name: Briana (Bree) Young
Age: 32
Description: Red hair past her shoulders, green eyes, 5'6", lightly tanned skin with freckles.
Personality: Friendly and Charming
Professional Strengths: Deduction and Combat, also very By the Book
Joined the Force: To avoid jail time
Romance: Mason (Intimate, Bold)
Relationship with Rebecca: Bad growing up, a little better as an adult, significant improvements since learning about and working for The Agency.
Tina and Verda: Gets on well with both but not at a BFF level. Neither knows about supernaturals.
Bobby: Ex from college, feelings border on a lasting grudge.
More details about her under the cut
Growing Up: Between a string of nannies, school and Rebecca being a workaholic, Bree eventually came to the conclusion that any kind of attention was better than none and started acting out as a teenager. She had a lot of resentment towards her mom for, what Bree saw, as abandoning her and pawning her off on others.
She did a couple of years of college in the city with a liberal arts focus. It was during this time that she started dating Bobby. She stayed with him for far longer than she should have because, once again, any attention is better than none, right? Eventually they split up and she dropped out. There were a couple of years of jobs she never held for very long and weekends filled with parties in increasing run down locations. Finally she ended up with the choice of jail or joining the police.
Since Joining the Police: The job suited her shockingly well. It gave her the structure and goals her life had been lacking. After a couple of years she decided to take online classes to finish her degree, this time with a criminal justice focus. It was around this time that her relationship with her mom improved from practically hostile, to polite but brief and awkward interactions.
Feelings on Unit Bravo and the Supernatural: Was surprisingly ok with finding out. It made a lot of things in her past click and make sense. There's still some trust issues with Rebecca because of it but it's getting easier to overcome now that she knows the truth. She mostly trusts The Agency although she never trusts any large organization 100%.
Nate is her BFF. He seems to be the most aware of Mason's feelings and she knows he's someone she can talk to about that if she needs to.
Felix: She likes his sense of fun but his blunt observations can rub her the wrong way. His lack of focus can also leave her frustrated during mission prep. They have a good time hanging out though.
Adam: They butt heads but in the end they have pretty similar, outlooks, goals and methods when it comes to missions. They just haven't quite figured out how to work in sync on that. They're getting there though!
Mason: He scratches that bad boy itch from her youth. She recognizes the innuendo game he plays right off the bat and decides to play along with the full intention of getting as close as possible to the finish line before dropping him to teach him a lesson. Somewhere along the way she realizes that a fling could be pretty fun, and eventually that she has some feelings for him. She'd like to see it develop into something more and thinks there might be hints of that happening but also realizes that, for a lot reasons, Mason might not ever get there emotionally. Right now she's going with the flow but it's probably not too much longer before she realizes she's in deeper water than she thought.
Mason's Pet Name: I'm toying with the idea that Mason calls her Red instead of Sweetheart. Sweetheart and Angel give off the same vibe so the first time he calls her Sweetheart, he picks up on some tension and emotional stress. He's trying to get her into bed, annoying her is one thing but picking at bad memories is probably not going to lead to sexy times. She's been called Red on and off her whole life but especially during her partying days. It's not a nickname she's fond of because of that but it doesn't hit her the same way Sweetheart does, it's mostly just annoying. Eventually she comes to like it when he calls her that though. Mason is the only one of UB who call's her Red though, everyone else calls her Briana or Bree.

The Big Search is on for missing children in Las Vegas
Walking along Sahara Avenue, Valarie Goff stopped a girl in an Adidas shirt with white headphones in her ears.
“Excuse me,” she said. “We’re looking for these missing girls, if you can keep an eye out.”
The girl, Vanessa Farfan, picked up the double-sided flyer that showed four missing girls. Goff also handed her a package with 30 other missing kids.
Farfan pointed to one of the girls: 17-year-old Ryder Cornell.
“I know her,” she said. “I haven’t seen her in a while, like two years.”
Goff, a woman’s outreach coordinator with F.R.E.E. International, a human trafficking advocacy group, and they were performing The Big Search.
As the influx of tourists come in for Super Bowl weekend, hundreds of volunteers for the organization are hitting the streets with flyers of missing children, hoping.
By Friday, two were already recovered safety, and 30 solid tips had come in.
The search started Thursday and continues through Saturday, lasting from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
“Super Bowl is a high time, people will bring in folks that are trafficked specifically for the money,” said Tamia Dow, a retired Metropolitan Police Department detective who was volunteering. “There are so many people to service. They have all these customers.”
She said she is most concerned about runaways.
“When they go missing, sometimes nobody is looking for them,” she said.
The volunteers are looking, visiting truck stops, hotels and other businesses, and talking with clerks and people on the street.
“We’re educating people,” she said. “When they miss it, they kind of help the bad guy.”
F.R.E.E. International, which stands for find, restore, embrace, empower, also partnered with Nevada Child Seekers for the search.
Some 200 people are participating, including volunteers from the Metropolitan Police Department, Cox Communications, and NV Energy.
Michael Bartel, executive director of F.R.E.E., started the organization with his wife, Denise in 2007, after first learning of the human trafficking epidemic while campus pastors at Purdue University.
“We’re a boots-on-the-ground couple,” he said. “We want to be engaged.”
Being on the streets leaves young people vulnerable, Bartel said.
“It’s an opportunistic environment for predators,” he said of major events such as the Super Bowl. “It’s not just about the game; it’s about how much money comes into an area over a certain period of time.”
Margarita Edwards, executive director of Nevada Child Seekers, said 8,000 kids go missing a year in Nevada and that teams were sent out with maps to go to many places in the valley, including the Strip, Henderson and Boulder City.
The two missing youths recovered Thursday called the tip line themselves, she said.
“When they see the flyers circulating, they realize they’re worth looking for,” she said. “It’s powerful.”
After a youth returns home, he or she is offered the opportunity to participate in monthly meetings and is referred to workshops or mental health options.
“We know our kids are out there and alive,” she said. “We hope to get them back safely.”

Dozens of alleged paedophiles have been arrested across the Pilbara region as part of a police crackdown on child sex abuse.
Police would not confirm the number of men charged or how many offences were allegedly committed.
But reports in the local newspaper stated more than 30 men had been charged with almost 300 counts of child sex abuse during a nine-month operation across areas including Roebourne and Karratha.
Minister for Child Protection Simone McGurk said it was a distressing situation and the Government was providing significant resources to address the issue.
“We’ve got child protection workers, specialist police officers and other dedicated resources on the ground giving support to the families and the community,” she said.
I’d like to acknowledge the strength of the children, the families … who have the courage to come forward.
“Actually coming forward is a first step in systemic change.”
Ms McGurk said reports that a large number of those arrested were men from remote communities should not be a focus.
Photo: The Minister for child protection Simone McGurk paid tribute to the people who came forward to report abuse. (ABC News: Andrew O’Connor )
“I think it would be a mistake if we think that child safety is an issue that’s confined to a particular community or geographical location,” she said.
“The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Sex Abuse I think has highlighted that.”
A statement from police said the the operation “deals with sensitive matters and is ongoing”.
“As such, the Commissioner of Police won’t be adding to any public commentary at this time,” the statement read.
Latest in a string of charges
Since September last year the ABC has reported on at least eleven men from the region being charged with child sex offences.
The accused range in age from 22 to 69, with some of the allegations involving historical child sex abuse.
In February it was announced eight additional detectives had been sent to the area to address a rise in crime.
Pilbara District Superintendent Paul Coombes told the ABC at the time the extra officers would target child sex abuse and high-end crime in the Pilbara.
In September last year police made a public announcement to residents encouraging them to report child abuse.
If you or anyone you know needs help:
The call came following the arrest of three men from Roebourne for a number of offences including indecently dealing with a child and sexual penetration of a child over 13.
The Commissioner for Children Colin Petit said in a statement he was pleased the “diligent and focused investigations had occurred in Roebourne and nearby towns”.
“Particularly that children and young people have felt confident to come forward and speak with police and staff from other agencies,” his statement said.
“This situation exemplifies how vital it is for children and young people being actively supported to speak out when they are scared or concerned about their safety, wherever they are in the state.”
“I have asked agencies to ensure that the children and young people involved, and their parents or carers, receive support and therapeutic or healing services as the investigation and court processes continue.”
Mr Petit concluded that once the process was over it was important a strong preventative approach be established in the community.

Wayhaven Frights Day 20: Full Moon
Pairing: Bree/Mason Rating: G Warnings: None Bree kicked the surface of the water, her foot sending ripples across the lake until the image of the full moon expanded in small circles, seeming to reach out towards them.
“Are you sure there’s nothing in the water? Fish people? Long forgotten dinosaur? Aquatic werewolves?” She nudged Mason with her shoulder. “Creature from the Black the Lagoon?”
“I’m sure.” He didn’t even pause to see if he could sense anything. Mason flashed her one of his self assured smiles, “Don’t you worry, sweetheart, I’m more than enough for anything that might be swimming in this water.”
“Is that so?”
Mason raised an eyebrow and studied Bree. The words were part flirtation, part challenge and that usually meant something enjoyable was coming, soon he hoped, for both of them.
With one swift motion she threw herself into the water. A few moments later the pieces of her swimsuit hit the dock beside Mason with a wet fwack.
“Still confident in your abilities?” she called to him.
Mason’s only response was a splash in the water beside her, his boots sitting safe and dry on the dock.

Wayhaven Frights Day 11: Apocalypse
Pairing: Briana Young/Mason Rating: T for suggestive flirting Words: 756 Warnings: None The world must have ended because Mason is wearing a fancy suit. Apocalypse
The annual Wayhave Gala wasn’t exactly the kind of party Bree was used to attending. Granted it had been years since she’d gone to one of those parties either. The most recent party she’d attended had been a birthday party for one of Verda’s daughters. The Gala was certain to have more alcohol than that one but probably less cake and definitely less pin the tail on the donkey, luckily for the mayor.
As detective, she’s been told that her attendance was expected by the community, although, she didn’t remember Reele ever having to go before. As a member of Unit Bravo, it was decided that she shouldn’t go alone just in case some rogue supernatural decided it seemed like an easy place to try and target her. The surprising part was that Mason had actually volunteered to be her date. Though, given the speed with which he’d offered when it came up at the meeting made Bree think he hadn’t actually thought through the details of attending such as having to wear a suit and attempting to be polite. She’d even noticed Nate’s shoulders sag a little at not being able to get dressed to the nines for a night out.
However, the moment her eyes fell on Mason, she knew Nate had still managed to have his fun. Everything he was wearing spoke to Nate’s taste in clothing, though with Mason’s comfort and style in mind. The black suit was well cut, with trim lines and just enough angles to compliment the sharp lines of his face. Everything about the outfit, the burgundy shirt, the thin black tie, the casualness mixed with formality, invited stares but also signaled to an observer to keep their distance.
“Well, well, sunshine,” she smiled, “I didn’t know the world had come to end. Or maybe it’s just hell that’s frozen over.”
“Enjoy it while you can, sweetheart, because you’re never gonna see me in this again.”
“That’s a pity because seeing you in that just makes me want to get you out of it so much more.” Bree moved towards him until only inches separated their bodies, fully aware that he’d be able to tell exactly how she was feeling without her having to say anything more. “Unfortunately there are two rules for this evening. First off, we can’t leave until the end. Secondly, no running off in the middle and coming back or finding an unused room to pass the time. I’m expected to mingle and be seen. We have to make sure the Wayhaven Police Department is properly represented.”
Mason’s hand slowly slid inside the slit in her dress and brushed against her thigh. “Those are stupid rules.”
Bree could barely suppress the shudder that went through her body, “I agree completely and yet,” she slowly guided his hand out from beneath her dress, “I have to follow them.” A low growl rumbled through Mason’s chest making Bree chuckle. “Just think of the event as foreplay, a little anticipation for the reward that comes later.” She leaned in close and whispered “Because I fully expect my evening to end with this dress in a puddle on the floor. Leaving the heels on after is optional.”
The growl coming from Mason pitched up into something resembling a quiet moan and Bree allowed herself just a moment to imagine finding an empty office and letting him pull just enough of her dress over her hips to…
Her eyes met his and she knew Mason’s thoughts were going to a very similar place. Bree cleared her throat and straightened the handkerchief on his pocket, fingers brushing against the small radio concealed inside. It was just enough to pull her thoughts back to the situation at hand.
Since her movement had activated the radio she quietly said, “Hey,” knowing the rest of Unit Bravo was back at the warehouse listening in just in case there were any problems. “I wouldn’t wait up tonight, you know how these kinds of parties can go.”
The way Mason rolled his eyes told Bree that her comment had been taken as expected by each of the three vampires not in attendance.
“Come on,” Bree turned towards the room and plastered a fake smile on her face, “Somewhere around here there’s a glass of champagne with my name on it and I need to find it.”
Mason’s hand rested against her lower back, sliding down her curves while no one was looking before returning to its original position, “Lead the way, sweetheart.”

Wayhaven Frights Day 6: Haunting
Character: Briana Young, mentions of Rook and Rebecca Rating: G Warnings: minor spoilers for Book 3 Words: 460
By far and away, of all of my detectives, Bree has the prickliest relationship with Rebecca, although it is getting better.
Haunting
It had been years since Briana stood in the kitchen of her mother’s house, the house she grew up in. She couldn’t get out of that house fast enough when she was younger and there was a time when she hadn’t planned on ever stepping inside of it again. In fact, she was only there now because Rebecca needed to pick up a few items before they headed to a meeting at the facility in the city.
Standing there brought back memories, and to her surprise, not all of them bad, now that they weren’t clouded by the veil of angry youth. They weren’t ever going to have one of those best friend mother/daughter relationships from books and movies. Neither one of them was that kind of woman. But at least now they were working towards something that felt like family, which was more than she ever thought they would have, or that she ever thought she would want to have for that matter.
Her mind wandered back to the comment Rebecca made one morning at the warehouse, about her father, Rook, getting up early every morning to make breakfast. The only breakfast Briana remembered when her mother was home was cereal and toast, maybe picking something up from the bakery.
She tried to picture them, her father at the stove, cracking eggs into a skillet, her mother getting plates down from the cabinet.
Rebecca tries to scoot behind Rook in the tiny kitchen. He catches her around the waist and she gives him a chastising look that disappears the moment he kisses her on the cheek. He releases her and turns his focus back to the scrambled eggs, stirring and seasoning, a deep hum filling the air as he works. Rebecca puts some bread in the toaster before going to the refrigerator to get butter and jam. She pauses, almost completely hidden by the door to watch Rook, a wistful smile playing at her lips. The toast springs up with a loud ping.
“Bree?”
Briana jumped at her mother’s voice and the imagined figures evaporated like smoke. “Yeah, Mom.”
“I’ve got what I need.” Rebecca eyed her curiously, obviously having watched her for a while before speaking, but also not willing to pry into her daughter’s thoughts. “Are you ready to go?”
Briana looked at the empty kitchen again and wondered if her mother sometimes saw ghosts there too or if she was too practical to allow for such things. When she was alone did they dance around her, following old patterns and routines that only she remembered?
Briana suddenly felt weighed down by the history in these walls, both what she was part of and what she could only imagine. “Yeah, I’m ready,” she said finally.

Wayhaven Frights Day 2: Harvest
Pairing: Briana Young/Mason Rating: G | Words: 378 | Warnings: None
A quick little something with Mason and Bree at the local pick-your-own orchard. Did I make this into a Twilight joke about apples and vampires? Yes, yes I did. It was low hanging fruit (pun intended).
Harvest
This late in the season, there were only a few apples left on the trees in the orchard. The best had been picked weeks ago by the other families and couples in Wayhaven or turned into pies and cider to be sold at the town’s harvest festival.
Bree sighed in frustration as she searched for a few more to fill her basket when a pristine apple appeared in front of her, plucked by Mason with ease from the tall branches that had saved it from the grasp of previous visitors.
“Here, this looks better than the crappy ones you keep picking.”
She looked at the apple, then back at him, “A vampire and a perfect shiny red apple, this feels familiar somehow.” She brought a finger to her lips in mock thoughtfulness, “Where, oh where, would I have come across something like that before?”
“Do you want it or not?” Mason huffed, curling his wrist and bringing the apple to his chest.
“The apple or the vampire? Because both are such tempting forbidden fruit.” Bree’s lips curled into a smile, “But I think I know which one I’d rather sink my teeth into.”
“You only wish you could sink your teeth into this, sweetheart,” Mason purred, and then, to Briana’s surprise, he bit into the apple, defiant grey eyes holding hers, until his face contorted in disgust and he spit the piece of fruit onto the ground.
Bree eased the remainder of the apple from Mason’s grip and offered him her water bottle. “That really made quite the statement. Tell me, sunshine, was it worth it?”
“Maybe,” he said finally, still trying to get rid of the taste in his mouth.
“That bad?” She raised up on her toes and leaned close to his ear, “Then we’ll just have to find something sweeter for that mouth of yours to make up for it later.” A low growl rumbled in Mason’s chest as she rested back on her heels.
Bree locked her eyes with Mason’s and took a large bite of the apple, her tongue darting out to catch the juice that threatened to run down her chin, “Simply delicious.”
