as promised, the spy x fam parody AU
I had some fun thinking about this like 2 years ago and only made a couple of sketches at the time.. but then I started cleaning them up last month and before I knew it, it spiraled out of control to become this monstrosity. I can't help it, as you can all tell by now, I love coming up with scenarios to get all my little guys interacting with each other
some details i didn't put in:
the Kudou parents are absent like in the show
whatever is happening on Haibara's end is probably super messed up but I haven't thought of any of the details
Akai gets fancy tech stuff, like the voice changer, from Agasa. Agasa comes to help babysit Conan sometimes and he gives him all his little gadgets. Akai hasn't said anything about it but figures he could use it considering the amount of crime he comes across
the facility shinichi was in is like in the original story, it exists to research esp to create super soldiers which is why he knows everything he knows
Conan regularly eavesdrops on Akai and Rei's top secret phone calls which is how he learns their real names. He can't help it, he has really good hearing
Conan and Subaru have different last names because Conan thinks "Okiya" is lame and wants to keep the one he made up on the spot. Their story is that when Subaru and Conan's mother (Edogawa Fumiyo) married, they both kept their own last names and Conan was given Edogawa when he was born. They've kept it this way to "remember Conan's dead mother"
#detective conan#edogawa conan#akai shuichi#furuya rei#okiya subaru#dcmk#my art#i guess this technically could be akam but i envision their daily life to be more bad mind games which conan happily ruins#you know how in that movie with curacao in and akai+rei starts throwing hands and conan makes them stop pissing about to do their job?#that's how i think their household would work#spyxfam au where being gay is ok but being single however...#anyway this is all i plan to do with this au#scratchienails over on ao3 started a fic similar to this if you want more#there's only 1chapter so far but i really like their other dcmk fics so i recommend reading them!#sorry there's so much text but you probably expect that from me by now

Hi Detective, what did you think of Movie 20?
It had a lot of good concepts going for it, as well as great fanservice ideas, but the way it all came together, the weak reasoning for characters' actions, the sidelining of characters as well as the lack of an actual mystery, made the movie feel like it was somewhat rushingly put together. The only well executed thing was in my opinion Curacao's characterization and her relationship development with the Detective Boys.
There was a lot of initial hype watching the movie because of a lot of new things happening that has never happened before, but upon rewatch, it does feel like cheap unearned fanservice and I wouldn’t put it on my top favorites.

Just finished watching Detective Conan Movie 26: Black Iron Submarine to prepare for watching M27, and I can honestly say it was such a great movie!
First one to get my heart pumping from among one of dc’s latest movies in a while. Great action scenes from Conan, Ran and also the one with Akai. Ngl Shiho calling him ‘Shinichi-kun’ was cute. The scene where they were swimming up to the surface was beautiful, and with the accompanying soundtrack to boot! I absolutely loved all the callbacks to the previous bo movies and bo members (like Irish and Curacao), as well as Haibara’s association of Ran with Akemi. Speaking of Ran, my baby was absolutely badass in this movie. Again ngl, Haibara’s feelings toward Shinichi and Ran really give me a lot of angst. She just loves Shinichi a lot, but I can also say she loves Ran just as equally, if not more so she really exemplifies that sort of selfless love. Speaking of angst, it was a tiny moment, but Shinichi’s forlorn look as he looks at his tiny arms and being unable to physically save Ran as he is now really got to me for some reason.
And speaking of callbacks, I do love how Vermouth once again, despite her moral greyness, still acts with Shinichi’s words and Ran’s actions in mind that you really don’t need a reason to save someone, that despite that she hates Shiho, it can be something as having a Fusae brooch in exchange.
I hope M27 will prove to be as great if not better.
#dcmk#detective conan#they said it was a coai movie#and it really was!#and it doesn’t detract at all from how good a movie it was#again I just can’t help but feel for Haibara#because the feelings are there#what can she do about it?#but she will also be among the first in line to k*ll shinichi if he ever genuinely hurts ran#I loved haibara and ran’s relationship in this film too#and even that tiny moment in the first part with sonoko wanting to reward haibara for being such a good girl#mouri ran#kudou shinichi#edogawa conan#haibara ai

I JUST FINISHED WATCHING M26!
LITERAL CHILLS. My hands are sweating as I'm typing this. Now I can appreciate your art about it even more!
The movie was great but I feel there's something missing but can't point it out. It feels... short?
!!Spoiler for next:
I know it'a fiction but damn, Conan, how could you handle that (probably adrenaline?). And how'd you know it was Haibara who saved you(not that I'm conplaining), it's practically dark under the sea and you have no goggles!
-the fan that's fan-ning
Welcome back anon!!! Sorry this is a bit late, working during holiday season got kinda hectic 😔
Y'know, I get you on the fact that it feels short. I let the movie marinate in my head for a bit, and its been a good couple of weeks now since I've seen it, and I do have to agree that the plot progression from point A to B was kinda disappointingly short.
I think from my POV, as Haibara takes more of a damsel role, it kind of disappoints me that the movie hypes up her kidnapping but she is saved not too long after. I feel this way about the Mystery Train arc too lol that for a Haibara centred movie/arc, she's still treated as a B-plot. And that bothers me a lot.
As a production I get the limits. They can't afford to make too much alterations on the status quo as a long running franchise, which is why they can't quite afford to spend time on already a pretty huge decision (the B.O making direct contact with Haibara after the canon explicitly has moved on since then) so they have to find a way to return back to the floating timeline somehow.
But it's a bit contradictory at the same time, given the fact that they've explicitly established a continuity going on here—Irish & Curacao being explicitly referenced, Akai & Amuro motifs referencing Darkest Nightmare, etc—so at that point, I feel like they could have done much more to adjust the plot with some liberties.
One of the biggest weaknesses about the movies is that they'd market a specific character as a focal point of the movie to grab your attention and make you watch it, only to find out they're actually just the last 5 mins of the movie (The Scarlet Bullet left some scars in me 🥴). This movie surprisingly subverts this where Haibara actually takes a decent amount of screen time and a LOT of plot importance, but it still, mysteriously feels tacked on at the end of the day. I only feel this way because I felt that the movie would jump between intense scenes but not pad it long enough to make lasting impact—Conan & Haibara repeating their iconic glasses exchange was very cute, but the sudden shift between that scene and the next was just off by just a beat imo, for example—and Haibara being saved literally in the first operation Conan goes out to get her felt like the challenge & consequences were a bit too easy. Where was the struggle? Just the suspense? It didn't really feel rewarding to see her get saved, despite the intensity of her kidnapping.
Where I would make the changes? I feel as though the last part of the movie should have interwoven with the rescue in itself. Not that the little coffee exchange wasn't cute, but in the greater picture I feel as though they could've rode on that wave of suspense & thrill and receive a greater payoff than what we had. But, well, that's just me.
Might be asking too much for a detective conan movie 🤪
#neesan asks#sorry anon i took ur ask and made it an opportunity for me to drop my critical review#hope u dont mind. i have a lot of words abt this movie.#also my laptop is broken so i cant even rewatch it.... 🙄until its fixed

Rewatching Detective Conan movie 20, the Darkest Nightmare, and I have several thoughts:
Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko are taught nepotism. (Which probably is from Conan's influence when some cases occur.) Like, calling Takagi to meet Curacao or Sonoko to ride the Ferris Wheel.
Wtf are Amuro and Akai doing? (Talking about their fighting scene. Yeah, it was cool, and they are rival but WHy?)
There are several clips of Singapore at the credits. Is it foreshadowing movie 23?
As usual, everyone (mostly Akai and Amuro) don't think whatever Conan does to save the day weird. Sure, they know it is Agasa's invention but still...
As usual, everyone is in trouble, even some commoners there ARE in trouble.
Wtf, Amuro is doing hairflip. Lol!
Yeah, I know they're letting Kir and Bourbon go. But it's just weird Bourbon doesn't get interrogated for running away (even if they deduce he just wanted to save his own life).

the best way to watch Detective Conan movie 20 is to ignore Amuro and Akai completely and just let yourself get emotionally devastated by Curacao's plotline instead.
#it's been years but I am still not over her#curacao....#no one in history has been more doomed by the narrative than her
