Jaune's Shampoo
General Arc
"DAMMIT, NORA!" Jaune opened his shower door. As he exited, he noticed his body had drastically changed. Using a mixture of his shampoo and experimental goo found at the fiendish Dr. Merlot's laboratory, Nora had unwittingly created a mutagen just to prank her team leader.
"Huh?" Jaune brought his hand to his lips, curious as to the strangely baritone voice that came from it. Before he could question how his voice became so suddenly deep, he felt hair around his mouth. And not peach fuzz hair, but a full-blown forest of hair grew over his cheeks and past his chin. "What the hell?"
Jaune swiftly opened the shower door, almost breaking it as it slammed against itself. He winced at the sound of almost breaking. Apparently, hair wasn't the only thing that had grown from his shower. Looking down, he flexed his massive palms, noting the thick bushel of arm hair coating both his chest and his arms and his... Whoa! Not gonna get into that description until he figures out what happened to his face.
Wiping his hand over the foggy mirror, he found a strange face staring back at him. It was a face aged by years, perhaps even decades of experience. Thinking on it, he kind of looked like old pictures of his grandpa and his dad, from back in their huntsmen days. But looking in his eyes, he saw the truth of the matter; despite all the changes, it was still him.
"Jaune?" He heard a voice call out to him from outside the bathroom door. "Is everything okay in there?"
Jaune looked at the door, then back to the mirror. What should he tell Pyrrha? 'Yeah, everything is totally fine except I'm 40 all of a sudden in the span of a 5-minute shower!' No, no, he had to play it safe. Or at least try to get some help.
"Uh, actually, I think I might be getting sick." He lied to his partner. "Do you think you could get some medicine from the nurse's office?"
"Uh, okay then, Jaune."
He crept to the door and put his ear to it. He heard something slide, then slide again. Pyrrha left. Good. He opened the door, creeping into his own dorm room to find something he could wear. No way was he streaking across campus, new body or old body. He pulled on some boxers, finding them to be a bit tight for his new mass, and ripped some tears in them to ease his pain. Nothing in his closet even looked like it still fit him, so he'd figure something out. Maybe if he tied his hoodie over his lap, it would pass enough to be a loincloth?
"Jaune, I went over to Team RWBY and they... had... some..." Jaune looked to his partner, having returned from her search for his fake illness. "...medicine." Yes, that.
"Uh, h-hey, Pyrrha." He cleared his throat. "So, uh, funny story, but, uh... You remember when Weiss told me to grow up?"
"Okay, first of all-" The young woman stormed in, raising a finger at Jaune's torso as if her arm was already used to being positioned to his old height. Following her digit to it's point to find the now massive leader of JNPR looking back at her with innocent, blue eyes.
"Uh, h-hey, Weiss." He waved his gargantuan hands at her. "Uh, so I don't think you'll have to worry about me asking you out anymore."
Weiss didn't say anything. The shifty gaze that adornered her reddened face told Jaune she was too distracted by the titanic mass of muscle and body hair to focus on anything at that moment. He looked to Pyrrha who looked about the same. He noticed their eyes wander down a bit too far.
"O-Oh! Sorry!" Jaune took his hoodie and BARELY managed to tie it around to act as his loincloth tarp thing. "Uh, better?"
--------------------------------------------------
Jaune panted as he sprinted down the halls of Beacon Academy. The screaming masses behind him only urged him to push himself harder. Making his way Beacon Tower, where the headmaster's office sat at the very top, he tapped repeatedly on the elevator call button.
"Come on, come on!"
"There he is~!" Squealed Yang, flanked by her team and Pyrrha. Of all the times for Ren and Nora to be out on their 'totally not together together friendly luncheon as just friends and nothing more to it than that I swear'.
"I have him, girls~!" Squeaked Velvet as she clung to his neck. Damn! If only he wasn't so distracted by Nora's long and overly complicated name for 'not a date' that she insisted on! "Mm, he smells like an ocean beach house~!"
"Let me smell!" Blake shouted, practically foaming at the mouth. "I've actually lived in a beach house! I would know!"
Before she could sink her claw-like fingers into him, he tossed off Velvet (as gently as he could) and when he realized the elevator wasn't coming, he decided there was only one thing left to do. He turned around, grabbed the wall, and launched himself into the air! After gaining some feet or yards or whatever, he dug his fingers into the wall again and propelled himself higher!
"Weiss!" Ruby looked to her partner.
"Alright!" Weiss summoned glyphs on the wall, all the way up to the top, in the direction of Jaune.
--------------------------------------------------
"No, sir."
"Come on, I'm sure the students will love it."
"Sir," Professor Goodwitch sighed at the ridiculous glasses on the headmaster's face, "I just don't think anyone will want to see anyone else wearing such ridiculous glasses."
"Oh, come now, Glynda." Ozpin removed his glasses. "It's not like the students will revolt and start climbing up the-"
Just then, a large, nearly naked man with wild hair swatted at a young Ruby Rose that swarmed over him like the most annoying bug ever. He clung to the window frame of the office, swatting away until he fell from the tower, leaving Miss Rose to hang from roof.
"Mm..." He mused "Perhaps these are a bit too wacky..."
--------------------------------------------------
Jaune Arc was dead, laying in the heap of rubble that was once the statue of the two hunters that greeted every student as they arrived at Beacon Academy. Many of the girls wept around his body, especially Ruby, whose tears soaked her hooded cape as she dressed it over his body. The teachers tried to get through, but the more burly students, such as Yang and, oddly enough, Team CRDL, stood in the way of the faculty as the funeral procession continued.
"Don't you think this prank went to far?" Ren asked.
"No." Nora replied, not looking at her best friend, her eyes focused on her dead leader. "T'was beauty that killed the beast."
"C... Can I get up now?" Jaune groaned.
"Just... Just five more minutes." Pyrrha sobbed, holding her partner's head in her hands.

Actually spoke to my therapist about my love for rwby but grief with the fandom.
his suggestion was to build barriers between the two, and learn to separate a show from its fandom.
Also showed him your animatics!
He said that nuts and dolts, based on what he watched, is apparently a relationship that involves both parties bringing out the best in each other.
That's a good point from your therapist. It's honestly sad because we often search peers to share what we love together, but when it turns into something that brings more harm than good then I don't think it's worth it. I'm glad RWBY allow us to find people we can actually become closer to and friends despite everything :) Even if it doesn't mean that can last either, or become a strong bond, it's still people we're able to connect with at some point and I'll never regret that
So I agree, also waw thank you I'm honored aha ! Honestly that's what I love with that ship, it's just so soft and despite their tragic story when I think about them I feel good because they were there for each other, no matter what, and I'm happy other people can relate to that feeling too ! Sometimes ships and characters aren't just that, they can inspire us to at least try to be better
No one is perfect but still, they keep inspiring me and I'm happy you too ♥

So, I have some thoughts about Jaune’s situation and what that means for his character going forward.
First, shipping. I’ve made no secret of the fact that White Knight is hands down my favorite RWBY ship. Does his new age and the gap in years between him and Weiss, or any other character who was previously in his age range, change that for me?
For two reasons.
1: Weiss is a grown woman with a literal license to kill. If she makes the personal choice to pursue romance with Jaune despite his older age, I don’t think there’s a problem with that. If she’s old enough to be a licensed huntress and fight monsters that want to murder all of human and faunus kind, then she’s old enough choose to date Jaune, DILF status or no. The same is true for any of the other girls on team RWBY, or anyone else who was around his age when he fell in the Ever After.
Now, how Jaune might feel about that in this hypothetical situation with their ages is another matter entirely. Though with everything else he’s been through and had to deal with since V8’s finale, I imagine his current age wouldn’t be his biggest hurdle to pursuing a relationship with Weiss, or whoever else.
2: I seriously doubt Jaune’s going to stay at this age when they leave the Ever After. The Ever After is full of all kinds of magic. If there’s a way to grow and shrink people, then it’s not a stretch to think that there’s magic that can revert Jaune’s physical age to what he was when he entered the Ever After. So it’s not a big concern for me.
That and if Jaune does remain in his DILF form then that just means Weiss will have competition in the form of Willow.
Second: the possibility of Jaune dying this volume. I don’t see it happening, at least not right now. I know a lot of people are worried about that, but I don’t think that’s going to be his fate. Jaune is, at this point, a main character. He has a lot more to do in the story and they aren’t going to throw him away like that. If Jaune dies, then it’s going to be at the hands of Cinder in a climatic final battle for the fate of Remnant. Preferably while taking her with him.
Third: the theory that Jaune can’t or won’t leave the Ever After. A lot of my thoughts on this tie into my thoughts on why Jaune isn’t going to die this volume. Jaune’s clearly been in the Ever After for a long time, but it’s not because he can’t leave. It’s because he wasn’t going to leave without team RWBY. He’s stayed in the Ever After this long because he was waiting for them. Even if he didn’t know for sure that they would arrive or that he would find them, he wouldn’t take the risk of leaving and potentially abandoning them. And likewise, he isn’t going to stay in the Ever After when he had friends and family back on Remnant, which is still currently in grave danger of being destroyed by Salem.
So yeah, those are some of my thoughts on Jaune’s ‘fate’ going forward. I don’t think he’s going to die or refuse to go back to Remnant, and he’s still perfectly shippable. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. They’re just jealous that he’s a certifiable DILF now.
The DILF knight, if you will. I mean, just look at him…
Hubba hubba…

As usual I'm not saying anything new, but a comment @lazodiac left on another post of mine about Ruby's memorial helped me realize why I find that image frustrating. Putting aside everything in Volume 7 and 8, those debates about how RWBY is defining heroism and whether Ruby has lived up to those standards, even if I agreed with her every choice 100% I'd still have trouble swallowing that characterization.
Because of Ozpin.
I've talked a lot about how giving him the godly quest and personal motivations (curse + formerly married to Salem + dead kids + Maiden origins) severely undermines Ruby's position as the protagonist, but a side consequence of this is that every victory Ruby secures begs the question, "Why hasn't this happened before?" We're supposed to believe that a teenager almost no one knows said, "Please come together" after dropping the scariest shit imaginable—information that has canonically, consistently left characters broken with pessimism—and people just did that. The ships arrived, Vacuo is letting the refuges stay, people are mostly getting along despite Winter claiming otherwise, etc. It's already hard to swallow, but given that RWBY is fundamentally a show about that hope and shonen-esque inspiration, I could kinda buy it... If it weren't for the fact that Ruby apparently succeeded in thirty seconds where Ozpin failed over thousands of years.
The problem with Ozpin as a character is that he not only has the quest that should have gone to our protagonist, but he's had a staggeringly long time to make headway on it. We know thanks to WoR and Jinn that he was out there creating the Maidens, defending villages, waged a war, rejected being King, founded the huntsmen schools, created a secret group dedicated to fighting this war... and he was still met with unimaginable setbacks. People refuse to trust one another, his allies betray him, and Salem continually inches towards victory. That right there is a damn compelling setup. After so long and so much effort, how in the world will they finally make a difference by the end of the series? Is it simply a matter of minuscule progress over many more generations, or—as we expect from the show named RWBY—does Ruby Rose hold the key that will make all the difference?
But she doesn't! Ruby is in no way unique, except for in the ways that the story has come to ignore. It would make sense if Salem was introduced as an evolved grimm, or irrevocably grimm-esque due to her fall into the pool, and the world rallies behind Ruby because of her super duper rare silver eyes (best to get rid of the other characters who have them). They never had a weapon against Salem before, but now they do! Huzzah! All praise the chosen warrior who will deliver us from this evil! But obviously that didn't happen. There's no reason for the people to believe in her, especially when we compare Ruby's efforts to Ozpin's. Does the world know who she is? No, she's a virtual stranger. Do they know Ozpin? Yes, he's a renowned huntsmen and headmaster. Does Ruby tell people to trust each other in a way that's inspiring and reassuring? No, she leads with information that, again, consistently makes people give up for a long stretch of time and turn on one another. Does Ozpin? Yes, as a teacher he's specifically working to instill this message in each new generation of huntsmen. Is Ruby an inspiring martyr? Sort of, but she died falling off a magical bridge while everyone was too busy running for their lives to pay attention. Was Ozpin? Yes, he died in a crucial battle that the whole world learns about and responds to in a variety of different ways.
There's simply no persuasive reasoning here. Ruby inspires the world because she "has" to as the protagonist, not because that's in any way consistent with canon. This isn't a case of, "Oh, RWDE is upset that a woman is the hero." No, I'm upset that Ruby was cheated. She's supposed to be the star of the show! Give the girl a story that makes a lick of sense and allows the audience to feel like she's earned this moment of messiah-like devotion please. Ruby as a character deserves better than to make all those mistakes and then come out the other side successful only because her writers are retconning things like crazy behind the scene.
"Remember her message" is absurd when Ozpin has been preaching that exact message for multiple lifetimes. It's literally his goal and his primary motivation, something he's been working at for so long that you've GOT to do more to explain how Ruby managed to succeed in a matter of days.
Like, on a funnier note can you image wtf could be going through his head right now? "Oh, so I spend centuries doing everything within my power to bring humanity together, shouldering the backlash as people realize the secrets I keep, and then this kid keeps the exact same secret, looses two Relics, destroys an entire Kingdom that I helped BUILD... and the people start listening when she says to trust one another? Okay. Sure. I'm COMPLETELY cool about this. Hey, Oscar? How do you feel about screaming at the top of our lungs for the next three hours straight?"

RWBY Writing Analysis Number One - Roman Torchwick's death and why it's so good
Hello all.
Roman Torchwick, the glorious bastard of RWBY, is by far my favorite villain in the entire show.
A smooth talking criminal with a sense of humor, a perfect foil to Ruby, and a character who's impact lasts all the way to the present volume. He's got humor, consistent writing, and one hell of a sense of style.
But one thing I've seen many people complain about is his death scene. Many have claimed that it's unsatisfying. I disagree wholeheartedly, as there is a LOT of nuance and messaging behind the way Roman Torchwick dies.
Let's talk about it!
Roman's motivation
First thing's first, let's establish Roman's modus operandi. We can identify his main goal and his motive from a few lines in Volume 3 Episode 11, Heroes and Monsters.
Roman: You're asking the wrong questions, Red! It's not what I have to gain, it's that I can't afford to lose!
Roman: I may be a gambling man, but even I know that there are some bets you just don't take.
Roman: Like it or not, the people that hired me are going to change the world! You can't stop 'em, I can't stop 'em!
Roman: You know the old saying, "If you can't beat 'em-"
He gets cut off, but the "old saying" he's referring to is "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"
Roman's goal is to survive. He'll do whatever it takes to survive, no matter how morally black. Nothing is off limits as long as it keeps him alive.
The writers want to prove his modus operandi / philosophy (being that he'll do whatever it takes to survive) wrong.
Roman's death
Throughout the first 3 volumes of RWBY, Roman aids Cinder Fall in her plan to take down Beacon Academy. This involves hijacking an Atlesian airship and shooting down two other airships, the whole train bomb stuff at the end of Volume 2, providing the White Fang with Atlesian military technology, and stealing dust en masse.
Ultimately, it's him working with Cinder Fall that gets him killed. He helps Cinder with her plan, helps her wreak havoc in Vale all in the name of survival, and how does it end up for him? He is killed by the very Grimm that Cinder herself had unleashed on Vale.
He did everything it took to survive, no matter the cost, and it ended up getting him killed. All that talk about "if you can't beat them, join them" ended up being the very thing that gets him killed. It's ironic, really, and it proves his philosophy wrong.
The Real World
Another facet of Roman's final moments is his last monologue to Ruby.
Roman: You got spirit, Red. But this is the real world!
Roman: The real world is cold!
Roman: The real world doesn't care about spirit!
Roman: You wanna be a hero!? Then play the part and die like every other Huntsman in history!
Roman: As for me, I'll do what I do best: lie, steal, cheat, and SURVIVE!
Although the writers wanted to prove his philosophy of doing whatever it takes to survive wrong, they want to prove him right in this respect - the real world is cold, and the real world doesn't care about spirit.
Despite what he says about spirit, he also has spirit himself. That spirit isn't spent on making the world a better place, however, it's spent on his own survival. And, despite all that effort to survive, he dies a pitiful death at the hands of the very Grimm he helped unleash on Vale.
The world didn't give him a satisfying death. The real world doesn't care that he's a major villain. The real world is cold, and doesn't care about spirit. Roman's death proves him right.
However, that shouldn't stop you from doing the right thing. Roman knows the world is cold, and doesn't care about it. He only cares about himself and Neo's survival.
Ruby, on the other hand, learns that the real world is cold after the Fall of Beacon, in no small part due to Roman Torchwick. However, unlike Roman, she doesn't let this stop her from still doing the right thing.
"that's why we're here, to make it better"
So yeah. To all who say Roman's death is unsatisfying, take a read.

Your take on the recent RT announcement of a storybook anthology series to show what was happening in Remnant during volume 9?
I really feel like it's unnecessary at best at the moment and really doesn't give me any hope at all for... Anything going forward. XD
Like, 'this shows what's happening in Remnant during V9' V9 happened over the course of like a day and a half. And yes, it's obvious to the audience through the visual of the ships over Vacuo that it's been at least aa bit longer for the people of Vacuo than for RWBY+J in the Ever After (which I didn't want.) But if they were doing V10, I think they could stand to actually confirm how long they were gone in the show before they're like 'aren't you curious about what happened during all that time?'
Number one, it makes me feel like they will just brush over any time gap and have RWBYJ be like 'Well I guess it's been six months' or whatever and then move on quickly. Number two, despite caring about and liking a lot of the characters left in Vacuo, my hope is below zero for the fact that we'll see anything good or worthwhile at all.
Here are my predictions:
We'll get a minor cameo from Team SSSN and Team CFVY working with Team FNKI or something and at best Sun will ask about Blake and Nora will offhandedly say something about Blake belonging to Yang and Sun will be like 'oh, good for them.' Nora and Ren will get back together. Winter will get a ton of focus and weirdly will be like the only person really allowed to grieve for the presumed dead kids in more than a passing way. Maria and Pietro will also make a minor appearance and the anthology will say like one thing about Pietro missing Penny, but there's not gonna be any info on what happened to them out in the tundra or how they got to Vacuo. Qrow will get like a moment of acting bummed about Ruby and Yang and then Robyn will put a hand on his shoulder and Qrow will just move on. Theodore will make an appearance being 'the good member of Oz's inner circle' where he'll make some comments about never trusting Ironwood and will say something to Oz like 'it's a good thing you had those girls picking up the slack' and Oz will be like 'I know,' and they'll mention Glynda in passing. Mercury and Tyrian will be dealt with in this anthology.
And honestly, I could like all of them so much and I still wouldn't buy this because 'what Ren and Nora did in passing while Ruby was committing suicide' obviously doesn't matter as much to me as seeing Ruby actually go through the plot. And there being enough time for an 'anthology' to happen in Vacuo does damage imo to the main story because it gets consequences of V8 for Remnant and personal conflicts and moments I'd have liked to see addressed in the actual show for characters all brushed aside.
Also some people in the Discord chat I'm in mentioned that they think it's possible that the 'Beyond' portion of this is concerning.
As in, we might be getting important things like Team RWBY+J's return to Remnant and reunion with the others in this instead of waiting for V10 out of a desire to quickly tie up loose ends in the fear that V10 will never happen.
I've been on the 'V10 will probably happen but it might be the last season and probably will get rushed hardcore' train, but everything that RT does with RWBY makes me feel like V10 might not happen after all, or at the very least will only happen if the projects they make sell very well.

"It was planned from the start" is the equivalent of Nostradamus predictions in RWBY community. And my hatred for Monty "whisperers".
There have been many discussions in the RWBY community about what has been planned in the show, what has not. If that is good or bad etc. I think almost EVERYONE in the RWBY community has experienced such discussions at least once, especially if they were active during BB shipping days.
I am not here to talk about what has been or what has not been planned in the show, rather, i am here to talk just about how vaguelly CRWBY talks about what it wants from RWBY, and how the completely insane fanbase of RWBY instantly uses any vagueries as proof that something has been "planned from the start".
Nostradamus, what?
Some of you might wonder, what does Nostradamus have to do with any of this? Everything. You see, Nostradamus is known for "predicting the future" back in 16th century. And many things that have historically happened after his death have been said to have been predicted by him, such as Napoleons rise to power, Hitlers rise to power and even 9/11.
And yet, all of this is... Well... Bullshit.
Despite his fame if one reads his predictions one can realize that they are incredibly vague and general. To such an extent that they could apply to MULTIPLE different events in history. This is actually a tactic is often employed by liars to deceive people.
Because at the end of the day, if you are general and vague enough, people will fill in their own gaps in what you mean.
RWBY Plans?
Which brings me back to RWBY. A lot of IDEAS of RWBY have been established from the very start, and even talked about in interviews by Monty himself. Monty wanted there to be organic romances, for the characters to mature over time together with the audience etc.
The thing is. A lot of these statements of intention are vague. They are vague ideas of what Monty WANTS to do with RWBY. But not specific ways.
We also know very well that a LOT of things in RWBY have changed heavily. Raven is a great example, because post V2 the writers straight up admitted that only Monty knew what he wanted to do with Raven, so they had to improvise and pretend that V2 post credits scene with Raven and Yang did not exist.
V9 for example was a Volume that was vaguelly planned before, a separate world to explore the characters. But besides that, its specifics have not been at all decided. Hell, even when this Volume was supposed to happen was not decided or planned at all beforehand. As admited by the writers themselves.
But many of this, we already know. We know that RWBY has been planned in vague directions and intentions with specifics being figured out, in some cases literally while the show was STILL airing.
That matters little however. Regardless if something is planned or not, what people care about is the quality of the work. Unless one is a RWBY fanatic that is.
Monty "Whispering"
In the most recent volumes, with more and more information of documentaries and writers thoughts coming out, and especially with advent of BB being confirmed. Many people started seeking out old clips, especially old clips of Monty to start and claim things.
Many of his vague or general statements started being treated as "CONFIRMATIONS" by Monty himself about how everything in V9 and other times has been "planned from the start".
Tweets like these became very common from pieces of shit that are Monty "Whisperers". One of the most famous one being the clip where i think its Barbara asking whether or not she can confirm a same sex romance and getting answered negatively by Kerry. Which would not be disgusting on its own, but for one thing, Monty was in that same video. And despite Monty saying NOTHING in that video, people started shouting from the rooftops "SEE! MONTY PLANNED IT FROM THE START" "MONTY CONFIRMED BB" and other such statements.
And its fucking disgusting.
And before V9, some of these people were the ones i activelly followed. But after V9, and seeing the criticism it received, they seemingly completely changed overnight and became as disgusting as the worst of the fanatics.
And this kind of behaviour is the most disgusting of all.
I have often said that using Monty to criticize the show or defend it, is disgusting. The man is dead. Let him rest. And yet, these people use his corpse as Nostradamus of the RWBY community. They look at his vague or general statements, and then apply them to SPECIFIC instances in the show to say that "LOOK, CONFIRMATION!".
And what else am i supposed to say besides it being disgusting?
I dont care about plans
I want to end with the simple statement. I do not care if RWBY has been planned or not. We know of instances where things have been vaguelly planned and where they were written literally when the show was still airing. We know that. None of that changes the quality of the writing.
What i DO care about is this recent phenomena of RWBY fanatics treating Monty as Nostradamus. Finding his old clips and then constantly applying his general/vague words for their own ends. Despite saying that they hate when people use Montys name in vain, these people do it most often, and in most disgusting of ways, directly not just invoking Monty but his words.
Remember when people gave shit to people who said "Monty said that team RWBY is a sisterhood!"? I do. And yet now these fanatics do the exact same shit, taking Montys general words and then applying it to their own ends. And then they feel self-righteous about it.
Fuck em.
And this is kind of the entire point of this thread. To point out this disgusting trend, trend from people i once considered to be normal fans. But it seems that such fans rarely last.

I've been following you for a while now, and I just wanna say, I finished my rewatch of s7 and s8 of RWBY, and you were so so awesome as May Marigold, she's so cool! I know you didn't have the best time with Rooster Teeth, but May really meant a lot to me, since I at the time, didn't know any other trans anime or cartoon characters. Thank you so much for voicing such an awesome character!
I hope May matters to people. I really hope she does. She mattered so much to me and I put my entire heart and soul into her performance AND her coming out in the show.
I saw lots of folks saying that seeing my name in the credits as part of the crew who worked on V9 was very bittersweet for them, and trust me... it's bittersweet for me too.
I worked really fucking hard and put everything into every aspect of my work on the show, not just voice acting May but also voicing tons of other characters, and working as a casting director, and a voice over director, and a script supervisor... and so much more.
Like I said, I poured my heart and soul into what I did for the show.
I hope May still means something to everyone... despite what that company continues to do.

My thoughts on the shutdown of RT by Warner and on RWBY
Read on if you wish.
Ok so there's a good bit of things for me to say on this matter. Normally I don't do personal posts a whole lot like this but I want to express my thoughts on the matter. I will disclaim that this is a matter of opinion based on my understanding of the situation and I will explain more on certain subjects when I get to it. This is more of my inclination towards RWBY as a series than anything else.
So let's start with the short and simple part of my thoughts on it. It does suck that the company is shutting down mostly for the workers involved. As I understand from secondhand knowledge and statements by other onlookers that the company leadership has made very poor decisions with their franchises, both in writing direction and with treatment of the staff and also consumers. I can't say much more on that front as I will admit I haven't looked into it much and I haven't delved into that matter too much either so that's about all I have to say with that.
Onto the thoughts/feelings on RWBY. Now I enjoy RWBY as a franchise and series to a degree. I know lots of people have issues with how the show's writing became after some points in the series, myself included, but I remain hopeful. Warner still tried to do stuff with RWBY by aligning it with DC comics for crossovers. I haven't watched the two crossover films but I do intend to check them out despite what others say. I am more driven by curiosity with the show than much else. I won't sing it's praises nor will I bash the hell out of it. I get my initial impressions then I gauge what others think and adjust based on what I may or may not agree with after giving much thought on it.
My opinions on things can change drastically. One example which I will use as a somewhat loose comparison, is with Star Wars. I love the world of Star Wars and I always have since I was a kid. I was excited for the sequel trilogy and gave it a go. Force Awakens was an ok start, nothing spectacular, but its problems were showing but they still had time to pivot and correct these errors with the next two movies. The Last Jedi came out. I watched it and was at least entertained on the first watch. Then I saw the discourse erupt in the fandom. So I was curious to what made people so mad. I looked at a lot of writing critiques of the movie by fans of the series. Then I saw the behind the scenes things going on and it changed my view. At first I liked TLJ but that opinion quickly fell into greatly disliking it. I didn't even want to see Rise of Skywalker based on rumors of the plot of the movie. Mostly the ending. But I still watched it just to finish what I started. Even though I disliked it heavily and never touched that trilogy again.
What's this have to do with RWBY? Well it's the same thing for me. I started watching with a friend who was into it. I got into it. And for the most part I enjoyed it. After the fiasco with Star Wars I refrained from giving full opinions until after viewing the show or movie and thinking about it after. I also look into viewpoints of others to see what people liked and didn't like and see if I agreed or not. I seek to understand what turned people away and what made others stay. While I don't agree with everything others list I at least understand why they think about it the way they do. But in the end even if I agree with them I still want to see where it ends. I want to finish what I started. I can understand other people leaving the show after a certain point and not coming back out of outrage or disinterest. But I enjoyed the show at first and even if the ending is dog shit, much like with the Sequel trilogy, I will stay on this ride until it ends.
Now onto extra thoughts. So I did read the article explaining the closing of RT and based on my understanding, Warner may still be looking to complete the series they have, even if its just to milk what they can out of it, at the very least the final season of Red vs Blue is confirmed to happen. I haven't seen anything regarding the state of RWBY but I remain optimistic and hope they will keep most of the hardworking team (the ones that make the show happen and not the dumbasses who mistreat them) and treat them fairly so they can end the series on at least a decent note. There's no undoing what they've done at this point and it's naive to expect one or possibly two final season(s) to fix it. But they can at least try to give it a respectful ending. It is optimistic and it may be a long shot or very unlikely but even so I want to see what they do.
Hopefully this is clear enough in my thoughts and opinions on this matter. I haven't stated anything specific to the series in terms of writing but I don't feel it necessary to do so at the moment. Especially since I still need to catch up on it. You may not agree with my viewpoints or reasons for things but that's ok. I just wanted to get my voice out there.

Rwby is such a gulity pleasure show for me because I know the show has a lot of problematic elements from the drama behind the scenes, some questionable writing and the fandom having the craziest and insane fans ever, that they put Voltron fans and maybe Miraculous Ladybug fans to shame. However, when the show does something good it's really good and it has the potential to be something great. You can't really stop watching Rwby completely because there are some aspects to the show that are genuinely good. Volume 9 is possibly my favortive volume because it actually gave Ruby character development and finally made bumblebee canon , it's not great but not awful either. It's still has issues but I still enjoy it regardless. Honestly the only reason I almost stop watching the show is because of the toxic fans constantly fighting back and forth if Rwby is a great show or sending death threats to anyone who dare talk shit about their beloved show. But the "youtubers critics" are possibly the worst because everytime I heard them trying to critique RWBY they're always mean spirited and only watch the show just to shit on it.
I can't really speak to the fandom, I miss out on most of that drama crap with RWBY, but there's like a weirdly dedicated anti-fandom. Like I'm not sure why a popular nice guy youtuber turns on a current episode and openly says "I haven't watched in seven years but oh my god what is even happening this doesn't make sense I wonder why that is" instead of just not having his head up his ass, but here we are.
The behind the scenes stuff... That hurts because I bought into the whole cult of RT thing but if I take a step back I can't feel guilty about this and watch any MCU movie, or play any Blizzard game, or read any comic ever made. I loved Arcane despite Riot's whole nightmare situation and bigger company means more people were hurt.
The truth of the matter is that all of the media we consume is made from the abuse of the people doing the work in order to benefit the rich guys up top. Some places are worse than others, RT was real bad and other than RWBY I've cut myself off from them, but they're all bad. The whole system is fucked. We're in a perpetual loop of rich people controlling everything and abusing everyone to become more rich. The only answer is revolution.

Hi sorry to bother you but you seem well versed in rwby. What are you feelings for James? I write side stories and looking for input. I love Qrow....regardless of the drinking but some of the other characters I'm having problems coming up with extra content.
Alrighty Nonnie. I've had some thoughts on how to answer this, quite a few. And really, the challenge for me in it is...I have so many thoughts on James. Mostly, that his arc was a damned shame and a damned waste of a great, amazing character.
Without hesitation, James Ironwood was my favorite character in RWBY from the moment he stepped into frame in V2. This was a man with so much warmth in him, who wasn't afraid to ask for something to believe in from his friend and leader...who retreated in an argument rather than let his size make anyone uncomfortable. A man who disqualified a girl with such sympathy, not telling her that she was lying, or that she was wrong. James never showed anything but a worried protectiveness in the early volumes, and that thread maintained through his spotted appearances in Volumes 4 & 5.
James full on bowed to Weiss when he saw her at the Schnee mansion, James supported her publicly after her outburst at the fundraiser.
And then we get to Volume 7, and despite everything we're primed for, everything we expect, this man laughs off the stealing of an airship, with such warmth. He extends trust to the kids, lets them keep the relic, gives them board and upgrades, is open and honest with them at every step, trusting them - despite the fact he has no real reason to - with secrets that could topple nations, because he has faith in them. He lets them yell at him, snark him, and takes it with a weary sigh and an admittance that they're right.
James is a man who is a natural defender, a knight in shining armor. A paladin. He wants a cause to fight for, and people to defend. He wants to see the best in people. He wants to be proven right, in spite of an obvious streak of paranoia that tells him otherwise. He might fight with his friends, but when push comes to shove, he hugs Qrow because, no matter what they each said in Vale because they were upset, Qrow is his friend.
Jame looks tired, has grown the beard, because he is giving so much of himself to this fight. To trying to hold things together and find a solution when the one man who he thought had a plan died. And then when that man was revealed not to have one? James still tried. Until Salem was at his door, he had confidence they could find a solution, a way forward. And even when she cornered him in his office, battered, weary, broken in his own ways...even then he scorned her. Even then he chose to stand against her. He chose to try and find some plan rather than give in. A way to save some people because he couldn't save them all.
Ultimately, I love James because he is both a perfect Tin Man allusion - a man losing pieces of himself to his need to fulfill his duty - and because he is a fairy tale knight. When so much of RWBY is based on stories and fairytales, James is such an archetype of the genre, and I love that about him. At his heart, he's a good man. And what they did to him will always break my heart for the corruption they perpetrated against his character. He could have fallen so many ways...but not that fast. Not that way. Not to be that.
#(Honestly I'd tag this but....I just love him)#(I still have my knight allusion headcanon notes somewhere from 4+ years ago)#(Someday I'll deliver that monster to the dash)#Out of Learning (ooc)

more rwby au that i wrote in a feverish haze at an ungodly hour of the night
_______________
“Have fun with your new roommate,” one of the bandits jeered, wiggling his eyebrows at Lance before walking off, laughing with his friends.
Lance glared at his receding back; behind him, he heard the shuffling of feet, and Lance whirled at once, hands flying to grab at a weapon that wasn’t there.
Despite knowing that the bandits had disarmed him, Keith still raised his hands in a gesture of goodwill. Which, considering how things had gone last time they saw each other, was probably wise.
He wasn’t wearing his hood. His ears—dark purple, almost black, and covered in soft fur—were angled backward, like he was nervous.
Lance’s glare deepened. Rage curled like a tongue of flame in his stomach. “You.”
Keith kept his hands raised, but his jaw set with defiance. “Me.”
For a long moment, neither of them moved.
Then Lance launched himself forward, and his fist cracked across Keith’s jaw. Keith stumbled backward, eyes flaring wide in surprise and pain, but he didn’t strike back like Lance was expecting him to. He kept his hands raised, his stance open and unthreatening.
Lance punched him again. His knuckles stung, but he didn’t care. He pushed Keith over, pressed his knees into his shoulders, and hit him again.
Keith just closed his eyes and let it happen. He didn’t even try to push Lance off.
Blood dripped from Lance’s knuckles—his own or Keith’s, it was hard to tell. His skin had split, but Keith’s nose was dripping, smearing red over his cheek like a stain.
He hadn’t hit back. He hadn’t even tried.
All at once, the rage melted away. Lance slowly, slowly lowered his arms and slid off of Keith, kneeling in the dirt of the cell.
Keith didn’t move, but his eyes opened, fixed on Lance. A crease appeared between his brow.
“Why aren’t you hitting me back?” Lance’s voice was low and harsh, but there was no real fire behind the words. He was too tired, too emotionally drained.
Keith didn’t say anything for a long time. When he spoke at last, his voice was soft and hoarse. “Does it matter?”
Lance scoffed, shaking his head. “You always fight back,” he said, unable to believe what he was hearing or seeing. “You’ve never taken any of my shit before. You don’t give up, ever. I don’t think it’s in your vocabulary. So why now?”
Keith hesitated. “I…didn’t want to. Hurt you. More than I already have, I mean.”
Lance felt his lips part in shock. He just stared at Keith, mouth working, unable to make a sound. It was just so antithetical to everything he knew about the guy that Lance couldn’t wrap his head around it.
Keith sighed and slowly pushed himself to a sitting position. He wiped some of the blood from his cheek; his nosebleed had slowed to just a trickle. “I lied to you. And the team. I…didn’t want to.”
As he spoke, his ears tipped downward, like they were trying to hide in his mess of hair. It reminded Lance of Veronica’s cat when she was upset.
“Then why did you?” The words were out of Lance’s mouth almost before he realized he was opening it. “If you didn’t want to lie, why did you do it?”
Keith raised an eyebrow, shooting Lance an incredulous look. “You just tried to beat the shit out of me. And before that, you and the others were chasing me all over Altea.”
“…Okay, the first one’s fair,” Lance conceded reluctantly; he self-consciously flexed the fingers of his still-stinging hand. “But…we weren’t chasing you down to attack you, Keith.”
Now Keith’s ears flicked upward, pricking toward Lance in surprise. “You weren’t?”
Lance shrugged. “Well, I was definitely planning on giving you a piece of my mind when we caught up with you. But not like—like this. We just wanted to…talk. See if you were, you know. Doing okay.”
Keith’s expression was slack with shock, eyes wide and lips parted.
Lance sighed, rubbing the pads of his fingers over his split knuckles. “So, you were worried about us beating the shit out of you if we found out you were a Faunus. What else?” Why are you a Blade? What are you doing with them? Why did you lie? Why did you lie to me?
Keith’s expression turned somber, and he shifted to sit against the wall, resting his arms on his knees and his chin on his folded arms. “I…it wasn’t about being a Faunus,” he said quietly. “I mean, Allura and the girls are all Faunus. Nobody even batted an eye about it. That wasn’t—my situation was more…complicated.”
“Complicated.” Lance gave Keith an arch look. “You’re part of an underground terrorist organization, Keith.”
Keith shot Lance a fierce glare, and Lance felt a glimmer of satisfaction at the fire in the other boy’s eyes. There he is. “It’s—we’re not terrorists!”
Now Lance could feel some of the anger returning, but he tried to stifle it before he could explode again. He held out a hand, counting off on his fingers. “They steal Dust. They attack outposts. They hurt people!” They destroy homes.
Keith sighed, turning back to face the wall of bars. “Yeah.”
That took Lance by surprise. Again. “Yeah? You’re not gonna deny it?”
Keith just shook his head. “They’ve done awful things,” he said quietly. “I’ve helped them do some of it. But—it was for a good cause, you have to believe that.”
Lance laughed humorlessly, tipping his head back to stare at the ceiling. “I never took you for an idiot, Kiriume.”
Keith didn’t rise to the taunt like Lance had been hoping. He just sighed. “The kingdoms are full of corruption. The rich, the powerful, they don’t care what happens to any of us. They’d throw us all to the Grimm if it would give them an edge over the others.”
“And so that makes it okay for the Blades to do the same thing?” Lance couldn’t help the bubble of anger rising in his chest.
“It’s not the same,” Keith gritted out. “We’re trying to protect people.”
Lance laughed. It wasn’t a nice laugh. “My family is dead because of the Blades,” he snarled, voice low and angry. “How’s that for protection?”
Keith stared at him, eyes wide. “What?”
“Do you want me to say it again?” Lance felt like he should be glowing for all the rage burning inside him.
Keith’s shoulders dropped, and his ears tilted to lay flat against his hair. “I—I’m sorry. I didn’t know.”
Lance leaned back against the wall, anger simmering down to a low boil. He knocked his head against the wooden beam. “I grew up outside the kingdoms,” he began softly. “We didn’t have a huntsman, just a few hunters and retired soldiers. But they were enough to protect us from the odd Beowolf or Nevermore that came along, at least.”
Keith was watching him quietly, sharp violet eyes never leaving his face.
Lance swallowed thickly, fixing his eyes on the dirt at his feet. “There was a fight, I think. Someone got into a fight with some Blades who were passing through. It got ugly pretty fast; I think someone got their eye stabbed out or something, I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter, because then…the Grimm came.”
He cut off, squeezing his eyes shut against the wave of pain and memories that threatened to drown him every time he thought about it. The screams, the fire, his mother’s hand slotted in his, the rumble of explosions all around him, Veronica’s frightened voice begging Lance to get up, get up, please, gods, get up—
Lance sucked in a shaking breath and pressed his hands into the cool dirt to stop their trembling. “The Blades started the fight. And they couldn’t get it resolved fast enough to stop what happened next.” His words were short, clipped. Touched with some of the burning fury that boiled inside him at every waking moment.
“I’m sorry,” Keith said quietly, and it sounded like he meant it. When Lance finally looked at him, his eyes were still fixed on Lance, his expression sorrowful.
It hadn’t been his fault. Lance knew that, deep down. Keith had only been a little kid when it happened. Even if he’d been a Blade then, he would have been way too young to have been there, or even remembered it.
“That shouldn’t have happened,” Keith continued. “There’s protocols, things we do to make sure stuff like that doesn’t happen.” He smiled sadly at Lance, ears still tilted downward. “I really am sorry.”
Lance exhaled and turned to face Keith, resting one arm on his knee. “Thanks. I…I’m sorry, too. None of that was your fault, but I was just…angry.”
“It’s okay.” Keith gave him a wry smile. “I don’t blame you for being mad, I really don’t.”
“And I’m sorry for hitting you.” Lance returned his smile, and he was surprised to find that it actually felt genuine. “Mostly.”
Keith stuck his tongue out at Lance, ears flicking in annoyance. Gods, did they always do that? Lance had been missing out.
He hesitated, chewing his lower lip. “You said…that you didn’t really grow up in the kingdoms. Earlier, I mean.”
Keith eyed him. “Yeah. Why?”
“If you didn’t grow up in the kingdoms, why are you part of a resistance group that’s trying to like, root out corruption or whatever?” Lance waved a hand around in the air. The anger toward the Blades hadn’t quite dissipated—he didn’t think it ever would, and he would still love to punch a Blade or two in the face. But his anger toward Keith had disappeared almost entirely; frankly, it was a little freaky how quickly it had gone.
Keith sighed, resting his chin back on his arms. “I…don’t like talking about it,” he admitted quietly. “But you deserve to know. I—I don’t want to lie to you anymore.”
“Appreciated. Continue, please.” Lance spread his hands in invitation, earning an eye roll and small smile from Keith that lightened Lance’s mood by a fraction.
Keith took a steadying breath, then began to speak, words falling from his lips like a tide. “I never knew my mom. My—my dad always said she left when I was just a baby, but he never told me why.” His brows drew together. “I think…he didn’t know, either. She left both of us.”
Lance felt his brows furrow. He’d known Keith hadn’t had a great childhood, but he hadn’t thought it would have been like this.
“When Dad died, the only thing I had of either of my parents was my dad’s necklace and—my mom’s knife.” Keith pinched the locket between his fingers, absently rubbing the pad of his thumb over the intricate design. He didn’t seem to realize that he was doing it.
“My mom’s Blade knife,” Keith continued, eyes cutting to meet Lance’s.
Lance’s eyes widened. “You mean that knife is from the Blades?” He’d only ever seen Keith take the knife out to sharpen and clean it, and he’d never seen it without the leather wrappings on the hilt—which, now that the realization was sinking in, were perfect to hide the Blade marking that was featured on every single one of their trademark knives.
“Yeah.” Keith sighed again. “It was my only link to her, and when I was old enough and had more combat experience, I joined the Blades to look for her.”
“Did you find her?” Lance was surprised at how soft his voice was.
Keith’s shoulders curled inward a fraction, but his voice didn’t waver when he said, “Not yet. She’s out there, though. I know she is.”
“Can’t the Blade leader just tell you where she is?”
Keith sighed, shook his head. “He doesn’t know. Or he won’t tell me. The Blades rely on secrecy to keep each other safe; no one person holds all the answers.”
Not even their leader, apparently.
“But that’s not gonna stop you.” Lance didn’t say it like a question. There was no question there; Keith wasn’t one to step down from a challenge, whether it was seeing how fast he could drain a water bottle or tracking down his long-lost deadbeat Blade mom.
“No. It isn’t.” Keith’s voice was hard as iron, and it sent a shiver down Lance’s spine.
They sat in silence for a while, each absorbing the new information they’d learned about the other. Lance was fairly sure that was the longest they’d ever talked without fighting, and it felt even stranger considering how personal and intimate the conversation had become.
Of course they had to be locked in a cell together in order to actually talk about their feelings to each other. Hunk would lose his shit when he found out. Assuming they ever got out of the bandit camp.
“You don’t happen to still have that knife on you?” Lance murmured under his breath, glancing between the bars to see if any bandits were listening.
Picking up on his train of thought, Keith shook his head. “No. My semblance is gone, too; they broke my aura before putting me in here.” He grinned, sharp and dangerous. “I broke a few of theirs, though.”
“Hell, yeah,” Lance said appreciatively. He sobered, returning to the task at hand. “No weapons. No semblances. I guess we can try and get them to open the cell, and break out?”
“No need.” A new voice had both their heads snapping up.
Shiro stood outside the bars, hands on hips and grinning at them.
“Shiro!” Keith rolled to his feet, ears pricking forward in delight.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Lance stood, too, beaming.
“Getting my two idiots out of a bandit cell,” Shiro said, grin widening. His form flickered and burst into shards of pure darkness, and then Shiro reappeared inside the cell. He tossed something through the air, and Lance reflexively caught it.
His bow gleamed in his hands, and Lance grinned, hefting the familiar weight.
Shiro tossed Keith his swords and carefully handed him his knife—his mom’s knife. “Come on,” the man said, pushing open the cell door. “Hunk and Pidge should be getting their distraction ready—”
As soon as he said it, an explosion rumbled through the camp. Shouts broke out as bandits raced toward the disturbance.
Shiro sighed. “And it’s an explosion. Far be it from me to suggest somebody being a little more creative with the distractions next time?”
“Explosions work fine,” Keith said, stepping out in front of Shiro with blades drawn. “Come on.”

Little’s True Purpose
What if…Little will be the one to be eaten by the Jabberwalker, never ever realizing its purpose?
Don’t get me wrong. This squiggle meister is quite fond of Little. Just call me a devote Little stan, if you will. I just think it's neat.
But as much as I’d love for this adorable baby mouse to survive V9 and become a permanent animal companion to Ruby and her friends back on Remnant, I feel like that would be too much wishful thinking.
I feel like we’re more likely to see the dormouse be put to rest permanently in some shape or form.
Remember how Little was explaining to Ruby at the beginning of the volume that it was still pretty young and needed to still find or figure out its purpose in the Ever After?
Imagine if…Little will end up “dying” prematurely at some point later in the story; never learning what its purpose was. Or perhaps, more fittingly, Little will go out courageously with the realization that its purpose was to be the friend that Ruby needed in order to remember her purpose; doing everything in its power to help our little red rose return safely to her home in Remnant with her team; no matter the cost even at the expense of its own existence.
Not like Ruby needs yet another favourable friend of hers to die for her sake. Gods know she’s got enough of those already. Nevertheless, given what the Curious Cat mentioned in the recent episode about how those consumed by the Jabberwalker will never ascend, I feel like that little lore drop will come to fruition at some point in the narrative.
If not as a clear foreshadow to the Curious Cat’s death then perhaps Little’s. All in all, either one or both of these fateful animal companions from the Ever After are gonna get got by the time V9 concludes. But inspite of this, I also wish to believe that the deaths of the Curious Cat and Little will hold meaning.
I feel like we could potentially see a moment where the Jabberwalker goes to eat Ruby only for Little to sacrifice itself in her place. If not that then perhaps a wicked Neo will feed Little to one of her faux Jabberwalkers as a way of breaking Ruby by making her believe that Little had been murdered---just like Penny and her mother.
It will genuinely be freaking tragic if Little’s sole purpose for being in the story of V9 is to be yet another ally for Ruby to tragically lose in the battle of good vs evil.
Just as much as it would be tragic if Little’s death is what causes Ruby to finally reach her breaking point while in the Ever After.
Just another bad ending to a chapter of her life despite being in a literal fairy tale world as the Ever After. Different world. Same heartache.
That would simply suck if it became canon.
Again, I do not want Little to die. I just feel like there is more to this little mouse’s existence than the story is letting on. Up until this point, Little has done…well very little to help drive the story forward for RWBY. No pun intended. Despite being a tiny bundle of cuteness and helping RWBY out a handful of times, admittedly Little hasn’t done much to really cement its reason for joining RWBY on their journey, compared to a character like the Curious Cat.
Between the cat and the mouse, the Cat has done more for our four heroines compared to Little. Heck---one of the running gags is that Little, being the Dormouse character tends to be asleep most of the time which begs the question of why the showrunners felt they needed two animal companions for RWBY when it could’ve worked with just one. Mainly just the Curious Cat.
While it described itself as a guide to Ruby when questioned by the mysterious Blacksmith, the show has yet to answer the question of why Little?
Why does Little need to be there? What is Little’s purpose? It’s true purpose?
Is it just gonna be used as another likeable friend for our heroes to lose OR…perhaps Little will be revealed to be the key to Ruby and her friends getting to the tree and returning to Remnant?
Perhaps, unknowingly, Little is connected to the Tree our heroes are desperately searching for or is the very physical embodiment of the Tree itself?
Who knows?
I guess only time will tell.
As of now, we are halfway through the volume and with the recent revelation, things are only just getting started.
If Little’s purpose is truly significant, it’ll show itself in the remaining five episodes. So let’s see how things play out.

*crashes in, late to the talk of Culture/world building in RWBY* Sorry I'm late but OMG Can we talk about the biggest flaw in rwby WB that is just all of it when we get the Salem Backstory?! Like lets say we ignore Light being a hypocrite that makes even the Greek gods look better just by 'lets not allow one life to come back but i'm ok with WIPING OUT EVERYONE ELSE'. Lets talk about the ruins that were left behind! Wouldn't they and any items of magic (given that magic was only taken from flesh but if Enchanted Items existed they'd last a really long while) be apart of the culture? The Last humans didn't get to go 'oh btw we got nuked lol' so wouldn't there be questions about it? Like Ex: Mass effect had a race of beings that were highly advance then suddenly POOF! gone! noone knows where they went or what happened to them, only their structures and lil bits of tech remain. Remant would've had that! Then you got Salem who was being a Tryant (Tyrant who didn't get there fully) during their fight with Oz, so what happened to that?! Like ik humans now a days barely want to remember anything that doesn't aid their cause but we seem to remember a good chunk of the horrible people in history who did things for various reasons. So surely Salem was in the history books as the Cruel Queen, right?! Tapestries, old tales, cruel yet intresting sculptures, anything! She had the biggest way to flip the god of light off and didn't take it?! And if Oz gave up during certain amounts of time why didn't she 'unite' the world her way to help prevent Oz's actions moving forward? Groups that could be Salem's Lot that prevent the finding/obtaining of Relics so Oz's inner circle couldn't get to them easily. If RWBY was given the same TLC, Passion, and Soul as any other hit series We'd have our answers, and the four coteninets that seem to matter would have some beautiful mixture of all cultures despite the flaws of each one. Hell I'd love to see a Roman structure built with the same Material as the the Lost City in Mistral, Vale having a way to balance out the various cultures that came through from times of war while still having parts of it self that says 'I am Vale, through and Through' and what saddens me is my head can only go 'Sand! its everywhere! Get used to it!' for Vacuo because they made it seem so. with I believe 1 oasis...I might be wrong its been abit. Atlas-or rather Solitas- could've been Viking theme with bits of other warrior cultures with the main though it 'Tough times brings out the Strong' or something of that nature due to the cold being so harsh even Grimm can't withstand it, and as it progressed to Mantle and Atlas it still head that believe/culture but its more of a 'teach but not done' as the new tech made lives abit easier. I still see Menagerie as Australia just due to its position on the world so i can't think of much for it right now.
Sorry for the long rant. It was one of those things I had to get off because its nuts we went through not 1, not 2, but 3 kingdoms but held very little that could only be described as Lazy cause they knew we weren't going to explore the world and everything was just quick décor in a mario lvl of old.
First off never ever apologize for long asks I love the and I should apologize to well everyone for being slow as shit to reply to them.
Unfortunately, RW//BY suffers from a severe case of the writing is written by the writers flying by the seat of their pants and it shows. We have no hints of humanity existing before the gods killed them all. No signs of the worship of Salem which really should be a thing given she and Ozma acted as gods to humanity 2.0 and Salem killed Ozma before he could do anything about it so she realistically should have continued that cult following telling people his husband betrayed her or whatever sewing the seeds of distrust towards him and all of his reincarnations. Their is just so much that realistically should have happened with Salem that....didn't because the writers didn't bother to put in the work, they didn't build up the world realistically or have this big plan like they claim and the lack of consistent or realistic world building shows that.
Each of the kingdoms should have their own cultures and foods and religions and languages even. They should feel distinct and unique from one another while also still feeling like they all belong to the same world. Haven not having the same tech as Beacon feels jarring. As RW//BY traveled the world they should have repeatedly felt out of place in whatever kingdom they where in because they don't know the culture or customs within the world. We should have them struggling to communicate with people who speak different languages, or at least establish that after the great war everyone learned a single language to allow for communication between the kingdoms.
Sorry back to your point. When Salem killed Ozma the first time, she should have amassed a massive following of worshipers who hated their goddess's treacherous husband. She should have made a mad run for the relics to gain control of them before Ozma could. Their should have been a battle happening for a long ass time over them. Their should be some sort of reason why Salem wasn't causing mass chaos for decades before the events of RW//BY. This war should be much more known about then it is and it doesn't make sense within current cannon why it isn't more known. To hide Salem's existence he should have had to do something to strip her of her strength and influence but we have no evidence of any of that. We have no reason to believe that Salem hasn't bothered to try for the relics until now and that is most definitely a major problem. For example in ATLA, we know the Fire Nation couldn't enact it's ultimate plan because they had to wait for Sozin's comet to return. We have an in universe reason for what has been holding the Fire Nation back until now. RW//BY just doesn't have something like that built in to explain Salem choosing to hide and not acting until now.
I just cannot fathom why CRWBY/fans try and insist that this show has been planned since the beginning with so much evidence that it wasn't and couldn't have been. We have incomplete and contradictory world building, story lines that where never set up. Story lines that where dropped and conflicting canon information and it is just beyond infuriating.

The thing about that Winter thing, just to remind, from her POV she killed James. The last she saw of him was was her making him explode. From her perspective she is the one who killed that guy. And she is not very Brocken up about it.
Its amusing because they give Adam more sympathy then this. Blake literally broke down sobbing after killing him and even the triumphant song they released had a note about how sad Adam's story was and how this boy lost his way being consumed by hate and spite.
It was not alot, but like...its more then they give Jimmy LOL.
Pretty sure I got this ask when we all thought Winter was writing on Ironwood's grave, but regardless...
Yeeeah.
Something I've been thinking about lately is how Ironwood is the one villain who is still irrevocably against Salem and how that should have made such a difference, but didn't. Even Adam, whose story-line became 99% about his abusive relationship with Blake, was working with Cinder earlier on who, in turn, was working for Salem. Every major villain in the show (that I can think of off the top of my head, anyway) did something to forward Salem's agenda: Cinder, Watts, Tyrian, Hazel, Emerald, Raven, Adam, Roman. That consistency means that although I might often side-eye the heroes' inability to forgive (or hypocritically forgive on a dime) it at least makes sense that they would look at someone like Lionheart, someone who was helping Salem end the world, and dismiss any goodness within them.
Ironwood, in contrast, was working against Salem up until the moment he died.
Did the writers give him a senseless, fucked-up means of moving against Salem via a 'just bomb civilians' plan? Yes and I'll forever side-eye that too. However, I think if the heroes should have forgiveness/sympathy/mixed feelings/an emotional reaction to any villain, it should be the one whose villains acts were all in the name of stopping their shared enemy. In debating the ethical and practical merits of Ironwood's plans, I think many fans have lost sight of the larger picture. He's trying to get the Relics away from Salem, keep their last army of huntsmen in reserve to fight Salem later, get at least one city of people safely away from Salem. No matter how messed up, no matter how misguided and OOC there wasn't a single thing Ironwood did that wasn't guided by his attempts to keep Salem from ending the world. In a better written show, that would have meant something. Even if we still had to get cartoon villain Ironwood, the characters would at least acknowledge that he (from the show's POV) did all the wrong things for the right reasons. Winter in particular was set up to be that nuanced insight, given his mentor-esque status and her unfailing faith in 99% of the choices Ironwood made. That the show would have her (from her POV) kill him and then just sneer at how she waited too long to do it is insane. Please write these characters humanely! Even if you come to hate someone for what they've done, years worth of love for them doesn't just up and disappear!! That's the one (1) snow scene moment RWBY got completely right: of course Ozpin is still going to care for Lionheart despite his betrayal.
For me, intent will always matter. It might not excuse everything (or anything at all), but it opens the door for forgiveness in a way that few other things will. Which is why the intent of other characters, in contrast, makes Ironwood's writing so much worse. You have Qrow teaming up with Tyrian because he refuses to go see Ironwood in handcuffs and Emerald who is "redeemed" because she was literally just standing beside Oscar post-realization that Cinder doesn't love her. The show says, "You're forgiven for being so stubborn you'll deliberately help kill your friend" and the characters say "You're forgiven for trying to end the world/destroying a school and then stopping out of selfish self-interest." But there's no "You're forgiven for taking extreme measures in a no-win scenario in an effort to salvage some hope against an immortal enemy." That's messed up to me! Especially given that Ironwood is (presumably) dead. If there's ever a time to let characters extend compassion in a way they may not be able to with the person still there and potentially still enacting wrong, it's when they've died for those heroic beliefs. Ironwood is the one villain who, methods aside, was 100% fighting the right battle and he's simultaneously the one villain that characters and story alike refuse to give even a smidge of sympathy for. Wild.
