#despite being so phenomenally flawed it can still have value--and much of its value in my opinion is IN these conversations about it.

I have a lot of thoughts about arcane and rather than dealing with them on my own i thought i would try to write them out and see how other people feel and maybe have a conversation about it, because the beauty of art is sharing it and seeing it through your own eyes, as well as othersâ - the beauty of art is its ability to ignite and spark a conversation⊠a change.
Arcane is very important to me, because of what it represents - humanity, in all its aspects and kaleidoscopic facets, in all its glory and in all its misery. What made it unique is how inherently relatable and universal the feelings and experiences the characters go through and how inherently human their problems are at their core, and whilst they were able to keep a lot of those sentiments in season 2, I feel by act iii they forsook a lot of what made arcane special.
Very rambly thoughts ahead, I do apologise, and please tell me yours, I would love to speak about it and process it.
To me arcane was always about class struggles, about oppression, about what happens to the oppressed when they are pushed to the brink, about how that affects a personâs journey and their fates, and putting faces to those struggles on both sides of the equation - vi, an orphaned child who was forced to grow up too quickly and parentified to the point she felt like she had no value outside of being a protector; jinx - a brilliant mind who fell victim to trauma because there was no one able to help her outgrow it or deal with it; silco - a man who has seen the oppression first hand and chose to fight it regardless of the sacrifice it took. I could keep going and going but Arcane was a phenomenal display of character and morality, and an almost perfect attempt at the shades of grey that make most of us who we are. No character was without flaw, and no character was unjustified in their actions in their own minds and due to their own particular set of circumstances.
I think most of the gripes I have with season 2 stem from two overarching themes: time and ambition. But before I go into this, let me praise it for a bit because despite all my grievances, I still think it is the best animated piece of art of all time and I still think it's better than 99% of anything I've ever been invested in. Although almost redundant to even talk about, I want to shine a light onto the animation. I have to give so much credit to every single person involved in bringing this series to life, because it is a spectacle from the first frame to the last, and the amount of talent, effort and passion it took to do this can never be put into words.
I will bring up things I loved about it as I'm talking what I didn't, because they are very much entrenched. My biggest complain about season 2 is that, the fact that it was only one season. I believe everything they've set out to achieve and every plot point they introduced could have been properly addressed and done justice in in one more season, and therefore, none of the problems I'm about to go into would have ever been an issue.
Imagine this: season 2 starts exactly as it did, with the first three episodes dealing with the aftermath of jinx's actions and the loss that drives Piltover into deplorable reactions, with Caitlyn and Ambessa at the helm, descending into fascism, Cait driven by blind rage and the prejudice she's been fed her entire life without an active effort into trying to overcome it, Ambessa driven by ambition and desperate attempts to one-up the Black Rose organisation. However, the season progresses differently - to me, this conflict and its consequences should have been what this season was about.
Simple yet deeply impactful, tackling the themes they set up in the last season, tackling the intricacies of what would lead the characters into their actions - for Cait, expanding on the way grief, fear and guilt makes you regress back to your most ignorant, primal, selfish self; for Vi, the way a lifetime of being told she's responsible for everything and everyone and her unbridled desire for love and family made her abandon her core principles and join the people she hates in order to kill the monster she thinks she's responsible for creating; for Ambessa, the way her deeply embedded and deeply repressed fear of the Black Rose coupled with the Noxian belief in strength and sacrifice and war made her give up one her core beliefs that warriors are forged through blood sweat and tears and not through magic and reach out to Singed, therefore becoming an almost caricature of herself etc etc etc.
That coupled with the overarching conflict between Piltover and Zaun, how Piltover's actions are the breaking point for Zaun, as well as the personal conflicts between Jinx and Vi, Mel and Ambessa, Vi and Cait, potentially Jayce and Cait once Jayce realises Cait has become someone she would have absolutely despised just a few weeks ago, would have made for a compelling and powerful season that kept to much of the themes of the first season and could have been the stepping stones for a larger conflict that could have been introduced but not expanded in this season - Viktor and the Hexcore, the bigger battle between humanity vs the arcane, the Black Rose and their involvement in everything.
Season 2 would introduce Isha as a positive role model for Jinx and a way that Jinx would be able to be rescued from the nothingness her life had become - Isha could have been a symbol for Zaun, and the reason Jinx would decide to become the face of the revolution for Zaun independence. Season 2 could have ended with the Jinx and Vander moment in the prison, or with her reaching out for Vi after her KO in the pits. Season 3 then could have dealt with everything else, and been a great way to introduce other characters and other conflicts (Mel and the Black Rose), which I assume will be part of the next series about runeterra.
I think this season and what it was trying to achieve was great, but its biggest downfall was that in its ambition, it fell short of what made it great. Because whilst the fighting and the animations and the moments we did get with the characters were great, there wasn't enough time to make them justified or fleshed out, and in that, we lost the essence of what people loved the most about Arcane - the eye to detail, the accuracy in character writing and portrayal.
I loved seeing Cait and Vi together and I loved seeing them get into conflict - I did not, however, love that Caitlyn went from being a dictator to redeeming herself in basically one episode with no consequences for her actions. Vi should have been mad, she should have been furious, she should have held her accountable and she didn't. I wanted them to have a much earned sex scene, but not in a prison, which overlooks the insane amount of trauma Vi has suffered in Stillwater and how insensitive doing it there comes across as.
I loved seeing Jinx and Vi reunited - but for a story that started and was always at its core a story about two sisters, there was not nearly enough done to explore their very complicated and tumultuous relationship and bring it to a satisfying conclusion. Not one scene in which they talked about their issues, where they opened up about the past, where they resolved anything before Jinx eventually died, and then, not even one scene of Vi mourning her or what her death represents to the overarching story or to Zaun.
I loved seeing Jinx get better, and her character was actually the highlight of the show for me this season, but a lot of it felt rushed and not properly explored - by the beginning of act 2 she seemed basically perfectly sane, and even after losing Isha, she seemed perfectly in charge of her emotions and was able to surrender herself and make perfectly rational decisions, which doesn't seem in line with all we know about jinx. Not to mention Isha was never mentioned once in the whole of act 3, and neither did Jinx becoming a symbol for Zaun amount to absolutely anything in the end.
I hated how much like the fandom, and the characters themselves, the writers seem to overlook Vi completely. She got the short end of the stick at literally every turn and I thought she would have gotten a semblance of justice in the end, but she didnât. She forsake everything she knew and believed in because Jinx needed to be killed - Jinx was actually better and fixed herself without any of her involvement, so she betrayed herself for nothing. She finally opens up to Cait and cries in front of her, begging her not to change because sheâs already lost everything - Cait betrays her like 5 minutes later and attacks her, abandoning her, then comes back like nothing happened and Vi doesnât give a shit and forgives her immediately. Finally gets Vander and Jinx back? Loses them both again in the span of a few days. SHE EVEN FUCKING GOT A BAD ENDING IN THE HAPPY ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHERE EVERYONE ELSE WAS HAPPY LIKE WTF. I could keep going and going about Vi and all the ways she was done wrong but Iâd be here forever so letâs move on but #justiceforvi
I liked the Jayce and Viktor conflict and I actually believe everything they've done with that they handled well, since it was basically the main plot of the season, and I loved the way ekko's storyline intertwined with theirs, but this could have been handled even better in a season dedicated to it, and I wish it hadn't come at the expense of Jinx, Vi, Cait and the conflict between Zaun and Piltover. Watching this show felt a little bit like watching season 1 of game of thrones and then halfway through season 2 we're actually in season 8 and the white walkers are here and nobody cares about the iron throne anymore and everything that happened we're supposed to forget about and focus on jon snow vs the night king and it's so confusing cause I kinda cared about Ned Stark and who killed Jon Arryn and iâm kinda still mad that Cersei killed Lady and Iâm still curious about Bran and his visions and Varys and the importance of choosing a leader who cares about the small folks and and and ???
This is such a long post and Iâm very sorry and Iâm writing it on my phone so it might not even make sense but I needed to get some of it out because this has taken over my life.
I probably will have more thoughts as Iâm processing this more but for now pls tell me iâm not alone and pls tell me your thoughts đ€

if you want to complain more about clamp I am listening :) as someone who owns many volumes of the manga in multiple languages...... I am listening. <3
okay iâm just gonna rant in a very, very long post everyone please just avert your eyes mental illness is happening
but like....... as someone who was nostalgically reading these manga to bring back some happy memories i had as a kid, discovering that these series (ccs which i remembere dfondly despite not having actually watched/read as a kid, and trc and xxxholic which i read with some of my best friends at the time) are not just deeply flawed but harbouring so much like... frankly heinous shit in them is like??? deeply hurtful to me???
and like... i could handle cardcaptor sakura being full of evil shit because i had no deep personal connection, i just wanted to better understand ccs references in tsubasa and lik better appreciate syaoran and sakura and like its 90s shoujo OVER COURSE ITS FUCKED UP! just like sailor moon and fruits basket like itâs not good but like... i can process it
trc hurts me because like... the character writing for kurogane and fai is fucking PHENOMENAL, the concept is cool and interesting and unique, it (for the most part) has great themes and the way it explores concepts like grief, trauma, sacrifice, and healing was a balm to my quarantined soul
but you can tell where they realized they literally... did not know how to resolve their plot? and it got so complicated it legit gave me headaches but at least i had kurogane nad fai and then theyâre shoved to the side just for it to be revealed that syaoran... is syaoran and sakuraâs son... looking to meet up with sakura... to be with her... so they can be his parents
like... wow so great to watch this beautiful relationship be explored with kurogane and fai saving each otehr from the worst part of themselves just to be sidelined for âwhat if those fourth graders from cardcaptor sakura where husband and wife AND mother and son but like NOT REALLY becaues syaoran is also syaoranâs own dad so is it incest or just really confusingâ but no itâs both like legit when falling in love with sakura he comments on how sheâs just like his mom like hello bitch? youâre 14 but iâll still kill you that shit is WEIRD
so that wAS NOT GREAT and then it ends with THE GROUP SEPARATED AT THE END?? SO I COULDNâT EVEN GET A HAPPY ENDING like yeah maybe itâs good sakura and syaoran were separated but kurogane and fai got to stay together beacuse... fuck the incest but like... where is my catharsis where is my happiness??
and iâm rereading xxxholic which was my favorite of trc/xxxholic as a kid and... first off, itâs boring, secondly, it thinks itâs smarter than it is an dhas contradicting themes every other chapter, but FUCK itâs so interesting but doumeki, himawari, watauniki, and yuuko donât have half the bonds as the TRC gang and like... i still donât know why doumeki was going so fucking hard for watanuki
but the concepts were interesting enoguh and watching watanuki grow was nice
but you can ALSO tell AGAIN clamp just got bored and didnât know how to wrpa it up so suddenly watanuki gives up ALL HIS BONDS AND HURTS ALL HIS FRIENDS just to be reunited with yuuko??? despite the themes of the story being about how self sacrifice causes scars on others?? and thatâs BAD like if you love your frieneds you donât hurt them by undervaluing yourself??? THATS A BASIC THEME OFT HE STORY
and then they rush to pair off doumeki with a girl THEY HELPED RAISE so he can have children to stay with watanuki... himawari is written off despite her last interactions with watanuki being about them caring for each other anad choosing to stay in contact despite her curse... and like yuukoââs entire character is never explained sheâs just like âiâm a woman who exists as a vehicle of plot in both TRC and xxxholic i will never be given depth beyond that... well also iâll ruin watanukiâs lifeâ
and hen the last chapters are just watching everyone grow up while watanuki is alone, never aging, helping grant wishes where he watches other immortal beings suffer and lose everyone, and it just ends with him relizing he likely wonât ever see yuuko again but heâll keep waiting?? even though itâs been 100 yers and everyone he loves is dead??
and that shit is not good for my mental health like i feel like i have been isolated fo ra hundred years beacuse of covid watching watanuki choose it hurt edeply
like half the manga is about syaoran and sakura begging him not to vanish (also that plotline was WEIRDLY dropped) and the series ends with him effectively... vanishing a sa person and just becoming shopkeeper
how fucking depressing??
i could handle a sad ending if it had value. if it said something. if it didnât have doumeki marrying a girl he knew since she was an abused elementary schooler while he was like 17. ESPECiALLY when IN THE PANELS REVEALING IT it werenât like âatcually neither of them love each other they love watanuki but itâs fineâ like HUH????????? FOR WHY
and ive really had to grasp the reason why thereâs so much fucked up shit (incest, pedophilia) in those series is core to CLAMPâs messages accross all their mangas about soulmates nad how about love can triumph over everything
and like using such a PURE message to be like âif an adult is in love with a child and theyâre soulmates, itâs to beâ is so fucking evil
like theyâll tip toe around kurogane and fai, yukito and touya, doumeki and watanuki, and all the gaybait that i KNOW is in their other series because iâve grown up seeing shit like tokyo babylon and legal drug and all their other dropped manga
because gay peopl ebeing soulmates is a wink and a nod
but ADULTS WITH CHILDREN THEY ARE IN CHARGE OF??? MOTHER AND SON MAYBE??? oh thatâs fine theyâre REAL soulmates who will go against TIME AND DIMENSION MAGIC ITSELF to be in love
like...............................
gay people are second class characters compared to pedos and incest... does it get worse than that? like besides emotionally destroyed by the sad endings, i get that shit too?
it hurts on a deeper level like feels like a betrayal and iâm kind of really sad i revisited something i enjoyed so much as a kid (even when i didnât understand wtf was going on, because i was literally reading it at the same time my friend was and rushing) andd discovered this like... deep rot inside it
i could have continued to remember it fondly but now itâs just like... reaching the last bite of cake and being told it was made with maggots like... well i already ate it all...
thereâs no point reading clear card or the unfinished tsubasa/xxxholic sequels because theyâve already ruined themselves like they canât fix it
kurogane and fai still wonât be allowed to be together. watanuki still outlived everyone who ever loved him for a mother figure that can never come back. cardcaptor wrote off the fourth grader engaged to hre teacher but like... sakuraâs dad is still a preadator
like... what do i do with these left over feelings then?
iâll be over it in a dya but like for tonight i really do feel unwell
okay thank you i got it out in one post i am processing the feelings
i am gonna cry about watanuki being alone tho

nejiten fanfic binging guide
My recommended Nejiten fics. All stories are complete and are good enough to be reread again and again:)
Narutoverse
Exceptions by IncessantOblivion â The first Nejiten fic I have ever read, also one of the closest to my hearts. Though the author admits it, it does have themes of sexism and homophobia, but not strong. It portrays Tenten as extremely inexperienced and though Iâm not a fan of authors who write her that way, Iâm glad she is shown as independent otherwise. Despite the criticism and obvious flaws, the romantic scenes are written perfectly and I get a huge wave of feels every time I reread it. Besides the slight hints of sexism, this story is the most favourited Nejiten story on FFn for a reason: youâre so emotionally connected to it. My chest literally constricts every time I read it, itâs so good.Â
Land of Pretend + Reality by trilliumgt â The first story, (Land of Pretend), despite being without a super solid storyline, is just so heart-wrenching. Iâm pretty sure I cried the first time I read this and the sequel but even if it didnât trigger as much as an emotional reaction, it was surprisingly not boring. Though âRealityâ wasnât as âfeel-triggeringâ, it was very well thought out.Â
About a Daddy and a Nanny by syaoran no hime â Perhaps one of my favourite Nejiten fics of all time. I was originally skeptical of this fic because of the title since Daddy and Nanny fics can be ridiculously degrading. They tend to be overly cliche where the female character is a useless Mary Sue. Yet when I gave it a shot, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was most definitely not cliche in the slightest. It may not be the best fic Iâve read in terms of romanticness, however, the humour is unbeatable. Before class, I had read this on my phone and couldnât stop laughing because the author writes Tenten to have an alter-ego nanny, (very minor spoiler), and she is absolutely hilarious. The romance lies in the unspoken words and the reminiscence, not in the make-outs, but in a way, that just makes it what it is. Itâs the type of fic that makes you wanna laugh and cry and smash your screen at the same time. The story is so so sooo good.
SharpBladed Spirit by FenixPhoenix â Dark and a little gruesome, therefore rated M. It isnât so much a romance, rather an adventure story with a side serving of the two love interests. Nonetheless, itâs captivating, character development is phenomenal, and every character is strong and moves on the plot.
On Qipao Flirting and Buying Drinks by needdl â While this is only a two-shot, it is such a beautifully written story. The best part of it isnât the romance, but the reactions to change and change itself. Characters change in subtle ways and the creative ways of expressing Nejiâs reactions to Tenten becoming more and more feminine make me smile constantly. What I also love is that it has a slight feminist viewpoint to it in the fact that she embraces her femininity, which is the whole point of feminism (in which femininity is embraced just as much as masculinity and the belief that all are equal, which hopefully you are up to date to because itâs 2020 for kamiâs sake). Anyways, the first part of the story is absolute pure fluff but if you read the second part, (especially on Ao3)...well that is some hot stuff let me tell ya.
In Front of Every Star by NessieGGÂ â A short story with lots of fluff, angst, and feminism. (YAY!) It loaded with small snippets of moments, sadness, and really makes you think about your own values. Would you leave the love of your life to save your home country? What I love about this story is that the pain the characters feel may be selfish but they are completely realistic. It reflects off of our own lives, trying to let go of our feelings after letting go of the person. Every piece of it is flawless.
Ms X by Blade Rewind â This was the second-ever Nejiten fic Iâve read, and though short in the chapters, it certainly gives a lot of content. Itâs light, airy, fun, and a little bit cliche, but in a strangely good way. The writer executes a classic plot with grace and humour and there isn'tâ a point where you wanna die because of the unoriginality.Â
On Sex by Lotos-eater â I was skeptical about this at first because sometimes titles like these indicate really bad smut, which is almost as bad as an overused cliche. However, this was exactly the opposite. While there is certainly mature content, it isnât in the way youâd think. Sex is portrayed as an obstacle in this story and approaching it is awkward in every way. Kissing is awkward, touching is awkward, in fact, this is a romantic story with no romance whatsoever. I donât know how the author pulled it off, but it was simply amazing. It is hard to read not because it is bad, but because you can really empathize with the Neji and Tenten as they try to have sex with non-existent chemistry. Yet my favourite part of this story is the amount of complexity within each character and the way Gai is written in a much more different light. I never imagined Gai to have a dark side and this story executes it perfectly.
Alternate Universes
Complexities of Blackmail by Aquarius Galuxy â I read the summary for this one and was impressed at the word count so I quickly jumped aboard my first AG Nejiten fic train and just...wow. So like, I donât know where to start. Itâs a military space AU and what I love is that up to a certain point, everyoneâs backstory until Naruto Shippuden era is almost exactly the same as the Narutoverse. Team Gai is a predeveloped relationship but had deteriorated. Blackmail is very explicit, lots of smut, but damn is it quality smut. It might not be your cup of tea, but if you donât mind it, this story is amazing. Neji is slightly out of character, but you can understand why with his motivations, even though I personally wouldnât write a story with the situation. Development is great, chemistry is over the top fantastic, and thereâs a perfect amount of angst. It is a bit lengthy but so worth it. Every other character involved is so unique, I loved seeing Izumo and Kotetsu getting a bigger role, Ino was so in character; highly, highly recommend.
f 2-8, ISO 100 by Aquarius Galuxy â Of course, we have another AG fic and this one has sex scenes, but not as *cough* rough *cough* as Blackmail. The maturity mostly comes from the fact that Tenten is a photographer and art can sometimes be...graphic. Yet I have an appreciation for this fic since it states that art is art and the fact that AG came up with the photography is like aiming a shot, (since Tenten never misses). Neji is a politician and pianist, which is a suitable career that both covers his genius and soft side. Once again, great chemistry. This fic flows like a river, itâs so beautiful.
Cutting Water by Nessie GGÂ â A historic AU in which Tenten the leader of a prestigious clan in China and Neji is an ambassador from Japan. Reads more as an adventure and friendship story resulting in romance in the last few chapters rather than just romance. The details are amazing and the style of the writing makes it so elegant, perfect for the time period. Itâs the type of story that mysterious and sophisticated at the same time.
Perfidy by KNOÂ â Similar to Cutting Water as it is a historical AU. Its backstory is vaguely similar to Mulan, however, in this case, the hot general doesnât forgive her immediately. Tenten, who was saved from dressing as a guy to serve in the army, is sent to train another generation of female soldiers. Itâs a great story, a great plot, though it does tend to run on uselessly at times. However, it is solid otherwise.Â
Breathe Again by Kicho-Keynote â A modern AU in which Neji is an army veteran. The story is slightly dark, as it deals with PTSD and triggering situations. Each character is complex and the development is simply amazing. Everyone has visible flaws, relationships are so well-developed, and it has brought me to tears several times. There are several mentions of ShinoTen, and even though itâs not my favourite couple, it plays a huge role in the story so just a warning. Thankfully, it doesnât go into detail about their personal lives and it still is a Nejiten story, despite other love interests. It also runs on at parts but overall, itâs extremely well developed.
Authors
Aquarius Galuxy @aquariusgaluxy â The âPapabayâ of Nejiten fics. Every story is beautiful, perfect, and intimate. Chemistry is always there. Everything is so beautiful and each has a different mood. Nothing is half-assed and it is just...I wish AG was still active I love those works so much.
KNO @zealousheart â If Aquarius Galuxy is the âPapabayâ of Nejiten fics, then KNO is the âGhost Bananasâ. KNOâs work is creative, light, complex, and meaningful. The best part is, if you compare the earlier works to the more recent ones, you can really see the difference in skill level and how much KNO has improved.
Goldberry â Do you need one-shots? Goldberry has plenty. Though there are only a couple stories, there are one-shot collections, drabbles, and a whole bucketload of one-shots I havenât even got to. Itâs pure Nejiten Heaven
NessieGGÂ â More one-shots but guess what? Theyâre all AU one-shots! Now, this is Nejiten AU heaven!
needdl â All of needdlâs works are filled with fluff. They are adorable, sweet, yet some of them are sincere and romantic.Â
Cyberwolf â There are so many short light drabbles from Cyberwolf, each an idea that seemingly came from random thoughts but ended up on FFN for all of us to read.
MOST OTHER AUTHORS MENTIONED IN THE SUGGESTED STORIES ALSO HAVE OTHER NEJITEN WORKS, JUST NOT AS PLENTIFUL OR MOSTLY NEJITEN AS THE ONES LISTED ABOVE. I SUGGEST YOU CHECK OUT THEIR PROFILES AS WELL!

this is highkey like a month late (i mean wbk im a chronic scatterbrain procrastinator) and sheâs thicccc but without further ado. my skam s4 thoughts.
I first just want to say a couple things: im not a muslim woc so my thoughts on s4 donât hold as much value as those of a muslim, woc, or a muslim woc. I also donât know to what degree sanaâs representation was true to real life. I made an effort to look for posts from muslim woc on sanaâs season but to no real avail, especially given itâs been two years since skam ended and a lot of blogs have deactivated, changed urls, or posts have become buried :( [if you know of any good posts regarding sanaâs season please lmk!]. from what I can recall in 2017, there were mixed opinions on s4 with most being upset (or at least disappointed) with the ultimate execution of sanaâs storyline and I agree w that. while s4 means so much to me and has a really special place in my heart, I do 100% acknowledge its flaws. ok!!!!!! lets get into itđ€
ep1 -as much as I wished isak stayed in kollektivet Iâm glad he and even had a rlly sweet happy time this entire season. also evak making their friends move all their furniture while they whisper romantic shit to each other and makeout? peak comedy -you fuckin wish!!! -sana is the one to say âof course you should tell noora about williamâ.. she Knew and still takes the fall for it :( -this opening clip is such a jarring shift into sanaâs pov!! e.g. while easy to overlook in previous seasons, sanaâs exclusion from the girls is glaringly obvious once weâre looking through her eyes -adding onto that! sana is the friend who notices everyone else- sheâs so observant, which hurts even more when you notice her friends donât do the same (except mayhaps chris- in my heart of hearts I know chris is also the friend who notices and goes unnoticed, but unfortunately we donât get enough of her and sanaâs relationship this season to fully see that) -yousef and the balloon squadâs entrance.... ICONIC! also I cant believe for 2 seasons they presented those dickbag nissen 97s as the be all end all of hot amazing boys when the bakka third years were RIGHT THERE like,, the penetrators vs. balloon squad + even? no contest maâam -also! itâs so interesting that we literally had no idea sana had a brother, or that yousef etc existed until now? itâs as if she has a whole private world at home, separate from her friends and nissen (and I think a theme of this season is those two worlds merging) -im obsessed w the yousana train scene but yousef being the only one who notices sana standing off to the side? ;-; -fy faen is such a stunning clip oh my god. when sana leaves to pray? possibly my favourite skam scene ever. itâs exquisite. -sana is so cute and awkward squeezing thru the crowd shsdhgfhshdf I LOVE her love her -the last shot on yousef and noora... oh my GOD oh my god bc like. being that friend who never ever tells your real feelings or your crushes or is vulnerable with your friends?? and then having to listen to them talk about how good your crush would be with someone else (especially one of ur friends) while ur sitting there silently dying inside? and you donât say anything since you canât be vulnerable with your friends and u donât think u stand a chance anyways so. (in the words of s3 noora. I think sana struck a nerve with the emotional unavailability! abbey r u ok) -this episode is a masterpiece and did such a phenomenal job of both introducing us to sanaâs perspective while also touching on a multitude of her struggles AND establishing the themes of the season. plus the cinematography, editing, soundtrack and aesthetic...... o baby. (case in point I deadass just rewatched it after writing this)
ep2 -every shot of sana praying is beautiful (and beautifully edited!!) -sanaâs room is usually messy... not smart enough to fully analyze this but Iâm sure it means something -an interesting contrast of whatâs expected of her vs. of elias- I canât speak for muslim families, but I know even in non-muslim families girls are always held to suchhh a higher standard (source: I have 2 brothers rip) -âif you find immaturity charmingâ hilarious bc sana actually does in fact find immaturity charming -whatâs interesting is how noora comes across in sanaâs POV- kinda obnoxious, kinda ignorant, seemingly perfect (compared to how noora is portrayed in evaâs season, for example) -even is one of those ppl who uses the bill gates argument on why dropping out of school makes u richer sdfhfsjskfjfsd -sana staring down the pepsi max squad. fuck em up. -vilde adding magnus to the groupchat jfkjsjfdjfsfsdkj -isak missing eskild :â) sidenote I fucking live for isak and sanaâs chats this season. theyâre literally my lifeblood like....Â
ep3 -the kiss me scene god I go FERAL -âyou need to pull it towards you, not push it away. okay?â yall mind if i SCREAM!! YOUSEF!!!!!!!!!! -there rlly is something about seeing sana, who in everyone elseâs POV comes off as cold and harsh and stoic, just absolutely meltinggg when she talks w yousef like she doesnât stop smiling sheâs so sweet!!!! ahđ„° and yousef is 100% that guy who ppl tell âyour gf is so intimidating and ruthless broâ and heâs like are yâall talking about sana??????? my baby?? my fuckin cinnamon apple????? -yousefâs lil smile watching sana peel carrots. 911 itâs me again -vilde and sanaâs relationship has a really interesting dynamic bc like.. vilde says ignorant shit to sana while also genuinely looking up to her. and sana is probably the harshest to vilde within the group but itâs because she actually values their friendship a lot -IM HURT BECAUSE YOU NEVER REPLIED TO MY MEME -sana pulling 2yr old receipts off the top of her head to defend vilde. god I stan -sana doin research taking notes..... shameful she isnât canonically a virgo (honestly her and isak both but like-) -sheâs so soft and smiley w her mamma awh... âof course he likes you, who doesnât like you?â her mamma only knows the real, gentle, beautiful loving sana oh im CRY -even is so kind and loving and thoughtful yall mind if i....... -âyou canât escape the internet girlâ foreshadowing mayhaps?
ep4 -david and ulrikke together are fucking hilarious -nooraâs âyouâre lucky you donât have to think about this stuff, heartbreak and thatâ :/ itâs not just vilde who says ignorant things to sana! -that being said sana and noora are cute asf in the exper5 scene.. dorky noora rise (omg josefine and her yogurt in the bloopers too sjhfkjdf) -I HANDLE BALLS BETTER THAN YOU -the yousana scene is sooo gorgeous whew...... -I always cry a lil bit (ok a lot) when yousef brings up even. and sana knew too. even sweetie ily :( -sana talking about her religion is beautiful. itâs so lovely to learn about how she thinks and sees the world. -yousefâs smile watching sana leave like ur kidding right....... -âflawless since 99âł is so cringey. itâs so cringeyyy -sana uses âsmhâ I knew we were soulmates
ep5 -eavesdropping on ur parent/brotherâs argument is peak sibling culture -when ur always paranoid but ur always right..... -sanaâs green jumpsuit sign me up babey -I really really really love elias and sanaâs conversation -u dont even realize how tiny sana is until sheâs standing next to isak and even -not finding out why yousef avoided the fight and why he kissed noora will haunt me forever (could we not have expanded more on that instead of noorhelm.......) -the parallel of sana washing isakâs blood off her hands vs. her washing her hands during maghrib in episode 1. gotta sit down. -vilde gossiping to the pepsimax girls stings SO bad itâs just such a betrayal?:( -âthe other girls seem cool, especially noora! sheâs so pretty!â ok much to unpack here but: sana again comparing herself to noora (who she sees as /perfect/)... sana being written off despite putting so much effort and passion into the russ bus while noora, who has done literally nothing and at best is indifferent to russ, is the one they like the most. disgusteng -love will tear us apart.. bitch..... -sana abt to cry god I canât -if sana is anything like me (I mean I think she is but jkjjkhsdfhfsd). looking stupid is the absolute worst so like, her sending out emails abt being bus boss when she was actually being lied to? being played? and her being âparanoidâ about sara being shady, but deciding hey maybe im just being crazy? except she wasnât she was right and she Knew!! and sheâs probably thinking how dumb it was for her to get her hopes up, everything always ends badly anyways and no one actually likes her :((((((( -dont rlly know what my feelings are on the fight. im not against it bc isak does have a temper but his apparent motive always seemed weak to me?? and god I feel so bad for even
ep6 -forgot about sana getting bullied in middle school yall mind if I sob?? -sana lying and getting defensive bc itâs hard to be vulnerable, or because she hates looking stupid? or both?:( -isak looking up dandelions in his textbook just bc even put one behind his ear. I HATE this man -sanaâs dad asking if she had a bad day aw :( -all the boys (and sana) wearing black but yousef wearing white.... what does it mean.............. -the carrots are back goddammit -radio station playing during this scene: âif I have to choose between the just non-muslim and the unjust muslim, without any doubt I would choose the non-muslim who is justâ -ISAKâS NOSE SFFJDFJFSDKJSDF -sanaâs text about chris Iâm going to bawl my eyes out.      âyeah! looking forward (to going to nissen) but a bit worried. donât know        anyone else starting there.â      (J: new friends?) âyes, at least one of them. I have german with her (chris)      and sheâs very cool!â -the contrast of how blunt sana came off when weâre first introduced to her vs. how she was really just excited to make a new friend bc she was scared no one would like her :( especially knowing her past with bullying and how nervous she was to start at nissen? chris baby I LOVE YOU thank u ;-; -also sana keeping 2yr old conversations on her phone... same -sana is honestly too smart and scheming and overthinking for her own good. she has these elaborate plans that more-or-less always get ruined by her being more kind than she gives herself credit for (e.g. wanting to protect vilde in s1, clearing isakâs name in s4) -everyone in skam texts back so fast smh -chris calling sana âsonicâ...... a moment please -I cannot watch the sana/evak apartment scene without thinking of the bloopers and losing it lmfaoooo.. âthis is where we live. just come inâ -ik itâs based off fanart but there is little I hate more than their matching outfits -âremember youâre both geniuses!â đ„șeven -once again isak studying is uhhhh me - âyouâre a good personâ yall i love isak i really do. he puts his foot in his mouth pretty often and doesnât have a great brain-to-mouth filter and he can be awkward and rambly and blunt and unsure of what to say in emotional situations but also? heâs so genuine. itâs just his honest thoughts and he says it bc he cares about sana and knows she needs to hear it!! -ᶠá”á”âż á”á”á”âż -sanaâs inner turmoil.. thank u iman for inventing acting (ik I havenât mentioned it much yet but god iman is SUCH a phenomenal actor I owe her my life) -LETS GO BITCHES
ep7 -sana crying silently in her room breaks my fucking heart (IMAN!!!!) -idk how I feel about the instagram plot but sana watching as her plan falls into place and then storming up to sara... pretty bada$$ -âitâs creepy it was published but itâs more creepy we have a bus boss who talks shit about everyoneâ THANK YOU vilde -i love s4 isak thanks -sana and jamillaâs chat aw :~) -how awkward do yall think the walk to the bench was lmfao -what sana tells isak is SO powerful and I love it a lot -isak does actually make a good point- the other girls are like that too. -unfortunately I have been in situations isak describes, where you want to learn more about your friendâs culture or religion because you care about them and youâre genuinely interested, but you donât know what questions are okay to ask and you donât want to sound rude or ignorant, so you ultimately end up asking no questions at all. but I hate that the responsibility is put on sana to constantly educate people bc I cannot imagine how exhausting that must be [[[ok so. I know there are VERY mixed opinions on the bench scene but hereâs my dumbass two cents. 1- I genuinely think isak was trying to make sana feel better by attempting to relate to her and pass on advice that really helped him. however, I donât think isak realized what sana eventually told him- that her experience wearing the hijab is a lot different than isakâs experience as a gay man. do I agree with everything isak said? nooo. do I understand why he said it? yeah. 2- it was not isakâs place to tell sana norwegians arenât racist, or not to look for racism in questions. I think thereâs some truth to ppl often just being ignorant, and he does add that there are probably a lot of racist people in Norway, but yeah. not great. 3- in conclusion I think while isak shared some meaningful advice w sana, he put his foot in his mouth too and said some stupid shit. im not trying to defend that. I will add, though: a. we actually do see some growth on isakâs part. when he and even are yelled at on the street, thatâs the moment it clicks for him that oh shit, this is what sana was talking about. this is what she has to experience? and thatâs why he texts noora, âin the speech for sana, you have to include how insanely strong she is. I donât think many people understand how much bullshit she has to takeâ and b. isakâs (bad) advice of ânot looking for the racism in thingsâ is ultimately contrasted by yousef (a moc who lived most of his life as a muslim) suggesting instead to show people what islam really is. and thatâs so much more meaningful. I think the root of a lot of the issues isak brought up- i.e. ignorance- is a general lack of education, representation, or effort by non-muslim people to seek out information themselves. so sana leading by example and showing what it means to her to be muslim is so much more powerful.]]] -đđđ! -BEST BUDS đ„ș
ep8 -haper du har plass weaving in and out of this episode until the chorus finally breaks when the los losers van shows up...... miss julie đ -oh my god the pictures. im a fucking MESS bc theyâre not only significant to the scene and to sana but also like,, as part of our goodbye to the girls?? -the balloon squad and even :( while the timeline of them reconciling within just this week is kinda wack, seeing even back with his friends looking so happy makes my heart uwu so iâll allow it just this once -evaâs message to vilde about her and magnus being able to trust each other w/o reading their texts... growth or irony -chris is such a phenomenal friend (and this is why I wanted more of her in s4!!) -sanaâs phonecall to the girls breaks my fucking heart bc like. right off the bat sheâs finally being vulnerable with them?? telling them about her fears and insecurities and struggles? typing this im gonna start crying lol but god I love her so much. sheâs so brave and she put all that on the line bc all she really cares about are her friends, she loves them SO much even if (she thinks) they donât love her back -lowkey sobbed so hard during the haper du har plass clip I almost threw up and it gave me a headache :) -anyways this is one of my favourite skam clips and god just. the moment you hear the girls calling for sana??? I LOSE it. when sana just starts BEAMING omgđ€§ the girls love sana and support her and if you fuck with sana you fuck with us!!!!!! god. cannot articulate how dear to my heart this scene is. -haper du har plass feels like the end of the episode and the party clip is kinda just tacked on but I love how happy everyone is!! theyâre all drinking champagne (who taught isak how to hold things) and dancing and smilingggg đ -yousana rise!!!!!!!! -ok donât get me wrong I hate william for crashing the party but their entrance slow-mo kinda slaps.... also sana popping up in between noorhelm SENDS me
ep9 -this is the point in the season where the amount of time dedicated to noorhelm is beyond beyond beyond significantly damaging to the story. this is sanaâs last episode!! instead of having them makeout in front of williamâs car for 20 minutes mayhaps we couldâve had a conversation between the girls and sana, or with her brother (if they had continued the elias alcoholism plotline rip), or maybe even with jamilla or her mamma? like I donât care at ALL about noora or william. give me anything else. ple a s e -what makes skam scenes so brilliant is their quiet moments!! julie let the scene breathe. not everything needs a tacky song playing over top. -Iâve said this abt like twenty clips now but MAGHRIB. oh my GOD. an absolute masterpiece and definitely tied for my all time favourite skam clip. canât rlly put into words how stunning it is. & I love sana and yousefâs conversation so much. -âof course I brought food! my name is yousef!â mr. acar youâre the only man I trust
ep10 -as much as my heart yearns for 10 sana episodes I think splitting up the last episode of skam into individual POV clips for different characters was brilliant and such a poignant way to say goodbye :( -okay donât think about what sana couldâve written in her texts to everyone or ur heart will go sicko mode -I wonât write anything abt this ep since Iâve already written too much but like.. (elias shouldâve gotten a clip instead of william. pchris can stay because his clip was funny but heâs on thin fuckin ice) -kjaere sana was such a beautiful way to say goodbye to skam. so yeah. bye skam. i miss you.Â
overall âIâm not really sure why (possibly a lethal combination of my undying love for sana bakkoush, how much I relate to her, this but my ass was crying EVERY single episode of season 4...... F âIâm obsessed with s4âČs aesthetic. imo the best editing, soundtrack and cinematography of any season!!!! julie is so talented at making each season feel distinct- to me, sanaâs season is cool, vibrant colours (aka the late-night sunset aesthetic- gabie i hear u laughing shut up), crisp electronic/pop music and rap, ethereal city nights..... also sana has the best style of any skam character it had to be said âsanaâs growth! seeing her open up and be honest and vulnerable with the girls during that phone call. sana sending all of her friends literally the sweetest messages of how much they mean to her and how much she values their relationship. sana being the (MUCH) bigger person and making amends with sara, ingrid etc. I love her so much :â((( âIâve thought a lot about what I would change in season 4 and honestly? im a mf scatterbrain and have no real, structured ideas. my biggest issue is too much noora. dream s4 would be william staying in london and noora being happy on her own (but not rly on her own bc she has the girls and kollektivet!). as :/ as I am about the noora/yousef plotline, Iâm not really sure what Iâd do to replace the yousana conflict in ep5. maybe involving elias, or the balloon squad and even? related to that- in lieu of all the noora/noorhelm screentime, I would so much rather have a follow-up plot to eliasâs drinking problem bc it was kinda just dropped? at the very least, the william clip shouldâve been eliasâs. I also would've killed for more one-on-one scenes with chris (even vilde or eva!), jamilla, even, members of the balloon squad... there are so many interesting stories that couldâve been explored instead of going down the noorhelm rabbithole again. furthermore, I feel like the social media plot was a bit... weak? again Iâve tried thinking of what I wouldâve done instead (while also keeping the haper du har plass clip, yâall can pry that one from my cold dead hands) to little avail. what especially threw me about this plotline is that sana did this in s2 to jamilla, fucked up, and it bit her in the ass. I know that she gets irrational when angry but from a storytelling perspective, it seems repetitive. just.. I feel like there couldâve been a more powerful plot in which sana follows the same character arc. another thing I wouldâve loved to see is beyond the los losers van, an apology from the girls to sana. or even just a conversation where they tell her âhey sana, weâre sorry for not paying attention and weâre sorry for being thoughtless/ignorant.â an apology from vilde about things sheâs said in the past wouldâve been <3. even a gesture! the girls order pizza again but this time itâs halal, or they make an effort to learn about sanaâs religion and culture. I know itâs implied through the letter they write for sana, but a final standalone scene wouldâve been so nice. âiâve noticed soo many remakes do this thing where they like.. water down shitty behaviour of their characters. which like- sure. I would love for everyone to be kind and thoughtful and not as horrible as they could be but also... I think thatâs the point of skam? to show that people fuck up, but that doesnât define them as a person. no one is perfect and no one can be thoughtful and considerate and kind all the time. and often these âproblematicâ actions are integral to the story- e.g. elias saying stupid comments to isak (related to isakâs internalized homophobia and fear of coming out to his friends), the girl squad being ignorant about what sana can eat, etc. so..... your remake is not better because it erased every horrible action every character has done. (nuance.. where r u.........) âdespite its flaws, I will say- the good moments of season 4? ineffable. I think we sometimes forget that julie literally wrote, directed, and I believe (?) assisted w editing and soundtrack too. i cant imagine doing all that under so much pressure, trying to bring so many storylines to a conclusion whilst simultaneously creating a goodbye-season to a show she put her life into the past two years. Iâm so fucking appreciative of her. and you know what? all in all julie wrote some pretty damn beautiful episodes and scenes, and you can tell she loves this show just as much as we do. âand honestly this is maybe one reason Iâm more wary of watching remake s4âČs, bc like.. this season meant SO much bc it was the last season of skam. we knew it was the last season. the final episode is more or less a love letter, a goodbye to the show. whereas w some remakes (do i have to say whomst) its like.. that love isnt there. itâs just another season. yknow? in conclusion I miss skam so much :(
ok whew if ur reading this ur a champion but also why did you just read 5k of me rambling about how much I love sana bakkoush??Â

Black Panther Review Articles 3
                        May contain spoilers
âJust because something works, doesnât mean it canât be improved.â
Shuri: Young, vibrant and intelligent -> the Carefree One Shuri is easily a favorite. Every character had a part to play and Shuriâs the one of untampered youth. She wasnât naive, or even childish. Know the world, itâs history and being responsible for the technological aspects of her peopleâs livelihood kinda pushes those concepts away. But her brother has been able to keep her shelter from danger, from the harshness of life as much as possible and so while she has great capabilities and task she remains this breath of freshness. Sheâs a jokester, choosing her brother as her victim whenever possible. Itâs her easy excitable nature that makes her so enjoyable- she just as intelligent if not more so than Tony Stark but has nothing of his flaws of grandeur. Her skills are amazing and she knows it but she never comes with a vibe of Iâm better than you because Iâm more intelligent. In fact get her to talking about her tech and she because more alive. In the film sheâs allowed this carefree vibe that allows the production to present black youth as it is in social standings - you get amazing lines from her like the âwhat are thoseâ throwback.
âI am loyal to the throne, no matter who sits on it.â
Okoye: Controlled, powerful and responsible -> the Resilient One A lot of people claim to hate the strong black woman trope - toting dangers to nature forgetting that that trope actually was born from the many women who had to become resilient to their circumstances. The danger is not a strong black woman but the world that expects her to only just. Okoye is defined as strong not because sheâs capable of maintaining her own in battle, but because sheâs of conviction. She vows to do and so she does. Strength is sometimes simply being and or doing even when you donât want to. A woman can be strong without being a stone wall of impenetrableness and the film never intended to write her as such. Easily on weâre introduced to her other sides, the teasing side, the side that considers her King a friend despite the boundaries that would normal eliminate such feelings. The soft edges of love. Although you bet your ass Iâm here for the concept of her standing for her values no matter what and man literally dropping to his knees before her in repentance.
âIt was my duty to fight for what I love.â
Nakia: Stubborn, determined and self confident -> the Willful one Nakia was everything weak people complain about (def men) - stubborn, opinionated, knowing of her own worth, determined and focused on her own desires and goals. These traits that black women are often faulted for having were not at all considered bad in Nakia. In fact they were her strengths and the exact thing that saved not only T'Challa but Wakanda itself. Â She the so call elusive woman, unpredictable and free but they donât pull a pin up on her. They donât make her overly sexual or seductive. They donât overwhelm her presence with feminine whiles. Sheâs not there to be served on a platter to the Black Panther. Instead their chemistry is genuine. Old relations where the flame hasnât died. Sheâs his confidant and his voice of reasons many times.
The ladies of Wakanda are beautiful and important because they are the reason Wakanda stands. Through the intelligence of technology, the strength of presence and the nature of determination. Itâs Shuriâs creative mind that Wakandaâs foundation resides upon - the same technology they all depend on even in battle. Okoye leads the Dora in protection of the throne, its her single audacity to stand for that throne despite her own heart that stops the battle on the field. Nakia is a spy that has to adapt to every situation sheâs placed in - and we see that strength constantly. Â Itâs Nakiaâs voice of reason that brings the white guy back that later stopped all their weapons from leaving. Itâs her sense of right and determination that gets Shuri and the Queen from the hall - Erik wouldâve killed them just because their loyalty is to T'Challa. Itâs Nakiaâs daring nature that puts T'Challa back in the power of the Black Panther. Wakanda would not still be standing as is without these brave women.
The film doesnât tell you that these women are outstandingâŠthey show you.
People say the women stole the show but thatâs because they donât understand the women were the show. T'Challa may be the King but they werenât afraid to represent everyone else. They werenât afraid to shine on those around him. I think people should understand this push of - all our people are important. The writers intention of show all sides of black people as weâve never been shown. They showed you who all the characters were - thatâs rare. Only the main leads get that treatment in most projects. But we know for us - black Panther was a chance to here about us and they took that opportunity. These black women - the carefree, the resilient, willful ones - theyâre often bad mouth in real life, people ability to see only their flaws knows no bounds and yet the movie presents you with only their best.
These women were different from one another, they all surround the King for one reason or another but none stand within his shadow. Theyâre their own people and bring their own skills to the table.
Fashion and other important elements when it comes to women: The fashion was so on point with these ladies and it was not about the greedy eyes of men, it was not about the female form being sexualized. These women were not here to be anyoneâs eye candy. They were beautiful just because they were. One of my favorite moments is in the beginning when Okoye tells T'Challa not to freeze when he sees Nakia and you automatically expect her to be decked out looking made up but when we actually get the first shot of her sheâs in regular garb and has a head wrap on and yet T'Challa is still floored. It was a nice way to lead with the messgae that a black woman in her normal state is still beautiful. We were all pleased that they cast a dark skinned woman in such a role. They let her hair out and kept her in the wear. The clothing of the female guards are not fleshy and pretentious - in fact - when they tell Nakia to put on the outfit the words that were used was - its armor.
Danai is someone weâve seen in this kind of role. Her work in The Walking Dead has exposed us all to seeing her in this kind of form - but, the difference with Black Panther is we get to celebrate her type of beauty. You have these women who walk around bald and theyâre proud of it, they prefer it. Iâve said once that all women should cut their hair off at least once - because the experience of walking around in a world they thinks they get to decide what your hair should be and taking that away from them in every aspect is a powerful thing and has the ability to shoot your confidence sky high (trust Iâve done it twice). Thereâs nothing wrong with a woman without hair. She was more beautiful when she took off the wig and threw it at her opponent. We get to see Danai in this gorgeous flowing red dress that just looks like vengeance as she jumps from the upper floor.
My favorite wear came from Shuri though! Such diversity in her wear and yet none overly topping who her character was supposed to be. She rocked the braids but they showed just how fucking changeable that hair is. She rocked the solo bun, the double buns, the half up ponytail, the cropped back with the design - and it was a nice one too! She had the all white with the dress and sneaks, the belly design top, and then she had the nerve to be all decked out for battle! Y'all know she had that already prepped on the low rih? She just knew they were gonna need her on the battle field on day. She had her own weapons prepped and with accessories. Itâs difficult to come better than Shuri - she was smart, funny, brave, and a fashionista all in her own right.
The film didnât balk on showing these womenâs greatness while not using it as a peepshow.
Woman can be deadly in anything. They can be gorgeous in any state. And more importantly they hold the autonomy to their own being.
Casting:
I love this whole cast - Iâve said it since the casting list was released. Letitia Wright was a new face for me. Iâve only seen her in one other production and that was Black Mirror - and I was super hyped afterwards because she is so phenomenal. She def the breakout queen, the love people have for her after Shuri will hopefully propel her career because sheâs got it. seeing her and Chadwick play ff one another as siblings was one of the best elements to the entire movie. Shuri is one of the best things in the entire movie if weâre to be frank. She meshed into this character, slid into them shoes as though they were her own.Â
It has def felt like Lupita has been killing the game recently and she deserves it. She just brings so much light and fun with her. I think a lot of us look up to her confidence and her nature to not back down in this world thats hardly ready for a woman like her. I felt like she had been waiting to play this role. Like I said before - its imperative for women like her to be presented with roles such as these. Its only then that you can see theres no difference and we can deliver just like everybody else.
Danai has been my love since she first walked onto the screen In The Walking Dead. Seeing her kickass, seeing her being emotional, seeing her being so predominate in fandom was just exciting. So when I heard she was getting cast for this I was ecstatic. You cannot go wrong with this woman. I feel like she does so well because even with cast mates its not a competition for her, its not about outshining or outdoing. She just has this presence and she brings that to her characters.Â
Iâm happy they went with these women. If they make a part 2 I demand they bring them all back!Â

I watched a couple of movies! (April roundup)
Iâm glad to announce that I finally found a way to rave about the movies Iâve watched without boring you all to death, driving myself to the brink of insanity, and damaging my eyesight even more. Instead of giving a comprehensive review on each one, I decided to give you my top picks for every month in an attempt to convince you to watch these life-changing pieces of cinema! Maybe someday I could include some of the worst Iâve seen as well because it's easier (and more fun) to point out the flaws I spot.
So without further ado, here are the creme of the crop for the month of April!

Philadelphia (1993, dir. Jonathan Demme)Â â
â
â
â
â
This superbly crafted film was one of the first in Hollywood to tackle the issue of HIV/AIDSâand with the right amount of sensitivityâduring a time when discrimination against victims was at its most rampant. That fact alone makes it deserving of the praise, recognition, and accolades it has collected over the years. Add to that the remarkable performance of Tom Hanks as Andy Beckett, the lawyer fired from the prestigious firm he works for who enlists the help of Joe Miller (Denzel Washington) to take this matter to court. His dedication to the role is evident not only in his dramatic weight loss but the intensity of the emotions he brings to all of his scenes. Though I know a lot of audiences are concerned that the account is told mainly from Millerâs perspective, I found this aspect crucial to his growth as a character and the movieâs effectivity as a call to empathy and compassion.
Certified Copy (2010, dir. Abbas Kiarostami)Â â
â
â
â
œ
It's so difficult to review this without giving away what makes it different from anything that's ever been made, probably. But then again, even if I dive deep into the plot and provide my theories, I doubt itâll make sense so Iâll say this. Certified Copy is a mind-bender of an arthouse film disguised as a love story of the Before Sunset variety. Itâs a deceivingly linear tale of a French woman known only as âSheâ (Juliette Binoche) who goes to a book signing and offers to explore the city of Tuscany with the author (William Shimell). His work asserts that the reproduction of a certain thing possesses as much value as the original, so much so that it can even take its place. The extent to which this is true is shown in the many ways their relationship changes in the span of a single afternoon. Itâs normal to be frustrated once youâve finished it. I had a âWhat the hell?â moment myself and had to rewatch some parts a few more times. But once you realize that the plot is an artifice, like fiction and art itself, thatâs when you come to terms with how real it actually is. Â
The Farewell (2019, dir. Lulu Wang)Â â
â
â
â
â
This is practically Wang's two-hour thesis on why grandmothers are the best people on the planet and we donât deserve them. It's not like I needed an external source to prove it was true but I adored it anyway. This Oscar snub is âbased on a true lieâ: Nai Nai (Zhao Shuzhen), the matriarch of a Chinese clan, is diagnosed with cancer, and her loved ones go to extreme lengths to keep it a secret from her. I appreciated the accurate depiction of the mess that is the Asian extended family: immigrant parents, their first-generation kids, and the relatives they left behind at the homeland under one roof can only mean endless bickering and picking at old wounds. But in all seriousness, its grasp of human emotionsâas seen in the brilliant acting performances and authentic dialogueâreels you in instantly and keeps you emotionally invested and painfully waiting for the heartbreaking (?) conclusion.
Interstellar (2014, dir. Christopher Nolan)Â â
â
â
â
â
In what is arguably Nolanâs most complex and ambitious work yet, we find Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) in what appears to be a shadow of the Earth we live in right now. After a fateful turn of events, he is tapped by NASA to carry out a mission in search of a habitable world for the human population. Rarely do we see a creative project that aspires to be everything at once and succeeds with flying colors. Interstellar is that gem for me. It pushes the limits of our imagination and tests the very boundaries of science and space while serving as a reminder of what it means to be human. It may clock in at 167 minutes but I think that if the run time had been cut down, it would be impossible to do justice to this multi-faceted story. In fact, with the emotionally resonant performances by the cast as well as the phenomenal score (Hans Zimmer, you are a god) and cinematography, I am honestly willing to see another three hours of extra footage.
Mommy (2014, dir. Xavier Dolan)Â â
â
â
â
œ
This⊠was a lot. I remember watching this first thing in the morning a couple of weeks ago, and not being able to do anything of importance for the entire day since I was too busy wondering if Iâll ever be suitable for the lifelong commitment that is motherhood. This award-winning, affecting tale revolves around Die Despres (Anne Dorval), a struggling journalist and single mom to Steve (Antoine Olivier Pilon), her hyperactive, abusive son diagnosed with ADHD. Although a law had been passed in Canada which lets cash-strapped parents place their troubled kids in hospitals, she refuses to give him up and takes him under her wing: after all, theyâre best at loving even when itâs hard. What unfolds after makes it hard to tell how the whole thing ends, but itâs a visually arresting and thought-provoking experience anyway. Dolan also possesses a strong command of the language of filmmakers: critics agree that its most notable aspect is the fact that it was shot in a 1:1 aspect ratio, which allowed me to assume the position of a next-door neighbor peering through their living room window.
Frances Ha (2012, dir. Noah Baumbach)Â â
â
â
â
â
Before Greta Gerwig was the director extraordinaire we know her to be, she was Frances Halladay, an aspiring dancer who moves to New York City with her best friend and comes face to face with several, consecutive life crises. Her reality couldnât be any further removed from mine (as a 19-year-old student on the complete opposite side of the world), but it remains highly relatable. At their core, her problems are rooted in a fear of loneliness and failureâjust like the rest of us! Come to think of it, maybe thatâs why itâs in black-and-white: to give the movie a sense of timelessness since it tackles themes and issues that remain universal and prevalent across generations. I loved Frances as a protagonist, though she far from perfect: sheâs immature and petty and quite frankly, she had no clue what she was doing until the last 15 minutesâjust like me! And yet she powered through in the end, which gives me hope that Iâll be able to do the same.
Fight Club (1999, dir. David Fincher)Â â
â
â
â
œ
Believe it or not, despite its straightforward title and predominantly male fanbase, I was completely taken aback when the unnamed narrator (Edward Norton) and Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) started beating each other up in the middle of a parking lotâthe very event that led to the establishment of their underground fight club. What initially appears to be a manâs search for a way out of the boring humdrum of his everyday existence evolves into a structural analysis of consumer capitalism and critique of toxic masculinity. Thereâs a lot of gore and violence but I pulled through thanks to the stunning visuals, unpredictable plot, and Brad Pittâs beautiful face. Although the twist towards the end wasnât exactly revolutionary for me because it kind of resembled Primal Fear (1996), it was still a mind-blowing and fitting conclusion to this cult classic.
Pretty Woman (1990, dir. Garry Marshall)Â â
â
â
â
â
This modern-day Cinderella story about a hooker who falls in love with a wealthy businessman has become problematic for my generation. There are a ton of essays on Letterboxd attempting to start discourse on its ethics, calling it out for its misogynistic undertones, and criticizing it for being unrealistic. I actually saw a review that said it indirectly promotes prostitution as a means to get ahead in life, which could wrongly influence teenage girls. (How stupid do you think we are?) At the end of the day, this is a romantic comedyâand an outstanding one, at that! This probably has the most equal distribution of swoon-worthy scenes and laugh-out-loud moments out of all the romcoms Iâve watched, and we have the lead actorsâ insane chemistry and the consistently witty script to thank. Needless to say, Julia Roberts is an absolute delight as Vivian Ward and itâs only fitting that it was this particular role that catapulted her to superstardom. Now if youâll excuse me, Iâm gonna rewatch this then proceed to play It Must Have Been Love for another 70 times.
The Fundamentals of Caring (2016, dir. Rob Burnett)Â â
â
â
â
â
I genuinely think that everything Paul Rudd touches turns to gold. Here, he plays Ben, caretaker to Trevor (Craig Roberts), a sarcastic teen suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Together, they make a spur-of-the-moment decision to take a cross-country road trip to see several roadside attractions and of course, come to terms with their own issues. I admit that my love for this comes with the acute awareness that if I had found it on Netflix at a different time, I wouldnât have appreciated it as much. Itâs fairly predictable, it doesnât strive towards anything complex or require much reflection on our part but it ties together neatly and satisfyingly in the endâtruly a perfect comfort film! The equivalent of the warm, 10-second-long, oxytocin-inducing hug that we all need and can't have right now, given the state of our world!
Edit (05/09/20): Iâm currently binge-watching Timothee Chalamet interviews and he just told Stephen Colbert that he had auditioned for this but wasnât accepted for the job. Imagine him and Paul Rudd together... the visual power that duo would hold... I would miss the point of the movie entirely.
So, thatâs it for this month! Iâve actually been spending more time writing lately but I hope I can continue to squeeze in something to watch into my schedule so I can actually be consistent with this series. Till next time! Exciting things up ahead! Wishing you love and light always, and donât forget to wash your hands, check your privilege and pray for our frontliners!

Miuâs Games of the Decade
Hello all! Wishing you a Happy New Year wherever you are in the world! Itâs already January 1st where I am, but Iâm sure people are still counting down in other parts of the world. But anywho! I wanted to end the year with a celebration of some of my favorite games released this decade. The 2010âs have been an incredible year for video games, I think. With strides made in graphics, scale, and storytelling, I think this has been easily one of the most innovative eras on all fronts. I hope you enjoy this list of a few of my favorites, and hopefully some of your favorites are here as well! If not, make a list of your own and share it with me! Iâd love to see some of your opinions.
But without further ado, on to the countdownâŠ
2010 â FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS
This game, for me, set the standard for what every RPG game should be. From its worldbuilding, to character interactions and on-the-nose commentary, to the way it expands the Fallout universe both mechanically and through storytelling. Of all the Fallout games, this is the one that left the biggest impact on me, and itâs the one I still reflect on to this day.
Honorable Mentions â Bayonetta, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2
2011 â DRAGON AGE II
So I looooove Dragon Age. Itâs, in my opinion, one of the best RPG franchises ever made, and this game in particular is easily my favorite in the series. The writing is at its best, and every character is so loveable that I found myself playing it multiple times just so I could romance everybody. Despite some structural issues in the overall story, I still consider it to be one of the most memorable in the franchise, and I donât regret a single hour put into this campaign.
Honorable Mentions â Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dark Souls, Portal 2, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
2012 â DISHONORED
As RPG-heavy as this list is, I do wanna give some love to immersive sims. Another favorite genre of mine, and Dishonored is by and large one of the best. I found myself entangled in a number of sticky situations that I had to sleuth and stealth my way out of one too many times. Yet they somehow managed to make that the best part of the game. Player freedom and creativity are practically the foundation of this game, and itâs something that made this game not only an enjoyable and unique experience the first time around, but its replay value is through the roof. I do think that later installments in the series, as well as other immersive sim games like Prey, definitely improved upon this one in a lot of areas. But regardless, I still really enjoyed Dishonored, and Iâm holding out hope for the future of the series.
Honorable Mentions â Sleeping Dogs, Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, The Walking Dead
2013 â THE LAST OF US
Iâm sure youâre all surprised, but yes. The Last of Us is my GOTY for 2013, and possibly my favorite game of all time. Before playing this, Iâve never had a game put me in such a state of emotional duress for an extended period of time. Not even MGS3âs ending did what this game did to me. And even as Iâm typing this, I realize that the technical aspects of this gameâthe graphics, mechanics, level design, etc.âarenât what makes it stand out in my opinion. My favorite part of this game has to be the journey. The connection between Ellie and Joel (two characters so brilliantly portrayed by Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker). My love for these characters and my desire to see them succeed despite all of the hardships and challenging decisions they were faced with. Thatâs why I love this game. It is, for me, the most incredible storytelling experience Iâve ever had.
Honorable Mentions â Grand Theft Auto V, Tomb Raider, The Wolf Among Us, Injustice: Gods Among Us
2014 â BAYONETTA 2
The Queen has made it onto this list, and I have nothing but praise for the greatest hack nâ slash game ever made. Character design? Stellar. Combat system? Robust, intricate, and absolutely flaw-fucking-free. Improves upon its predecessor in every way imaginable and still remains as stylish and fun as ever? 100%.
If you havenât played this game yet, please stop reading this and go play this game. It is⊠phenomenal.
Honorable Mentions â Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dark Souls II, Alien: Isolation, Tales from the Borderlands
2015 â THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT
What can I say about this game that hasnât already been said, like, 9 million timesâŠ?
Itâs legendary. Simply put. A flawless and unforgettable RPG experience that simply cannot be replicated. Also, I would die for Yennefer. And Ciri of Cintra is the love of my life.
Honorable Mentions â Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Life is Strange, Mortal Kombat X
2016 â HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER
The only indie game on this list, but its spot is well deserved. What has always set video games apart from other storytelling mediums is interactivity. Despite this, I feel like most games still rely on heavy dialogue and cinematic cutscenes in order to spin its narrative. Which is why Iâm so appreciative of games like this, where art and exploration are key to understanding the world and the happenings around you. Hyper Light Drifter is a gorgeous game, with challenging combat and beautiful, stylish music and design that will have you feeling both nostalgic and mesmerized. Even in its quieter moments the game remains so rich and thoughtful, and even now itâs hard to decipher my feelings afterwards. A mixture of melancholy, delight, and solace. Itâs a journey I thoroughly enjoyed taking.
Honorable Mentions â DOOM, Uncharted 4: A Thiefâs End, Titanfall 2, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
2017 â HORIZON: ZERO DAWN
This year was a solid year for games, which made this decision insanely difficult⊠but after a lot of deliberating, I decided to go with my gut. Aloy stole my heart the moment she came on the screen. Sheâs an incredible leading lady whoâs strong, determined, complicated, and layered in ways that both intrigued me and that I could relate to. But beyond just my crush on the gameâs protagonist, the scope of this game is just⊠fantastic. The way they mixed post-apocalyptic tribalism with futuristic technology, the physics of every monster you encounter being so dynamic that every battle feels viscerally intense, even just the combat mechanics and how much effort was put into designing Aloyâs bow and her diversity of combat options, Iâm just so!!!! In LOVE with this game!!!!!!!
Honorable Mentions âTekken 7, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Butterfly Soup
2018 â GOD OF WAR
Yet another game that Iâve showered in so much praise that I donât think thereâs anything left for me to say about it anymore. This game is flawless for a number of reasons. Its meticulously crafted combat system, amazing graphics, beautiful character and game design, gorgeous score, and seamless transitions from action to story that make it feel like a film taken in one single camera shot are all key selling points. But what sold me on this game, and makes it my top pick for this year, was its compelling narrative. The story is one thatâs very personal to me. I felt for them and their loss at the very start of the game. I resonated with Atreus and his struggles to connect with his father. And I understood Kratosâ inner battle with coming to terms with who he is and the things heâs done, and trying to be the father his son deserves. I related to these things, as they resembled all to closely the relationship I had with my own mom. God of War moved me in more ways than one, and Iâm very thankful that this game exists. I felt like it was my own story being told on that screen as well.
Also⊠the boss fights are just so fucking fun.
Honorable Mentions â Spider-Man (PS4), Red Dead Redemption 2, Gris, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
2019 â RESIDENT EVIL 2: REMAKE
This may be a more controversial pick considering the amount of quality games that came out this year, and I know most of my viewers were probably expecting Control or The Outer Worlds to be here considering how much I hyped those games up. But in my defense, Resident Evil 2 was already one of my all-time favorite games, and this remake nothing short of a masterpiece. To me, itâs what every horror game should be. The atmosphere is dark yet engrossing. Every aspect of design, from sounds to levels to enemies, make this one of the scariest horror games Iâve ever played, all without relying on jumpscares, or grotesque imagery (although thereâs plenty of that as well, itâs not what makes the experience so horrifying imo). Itâs one of the most beautifully crafted survival horrors, while manages to improve upon the original while still remaining faithful to it. I consider it a masterclass in how to approach any remake. Capcom truly earned back my trust with this one.
Honorable Mentions â Control, Katana ZERO, The Outer Worlds, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
And so concludes the list! I hope you enjoyed reading, despite how lengthy it got. I wanted to get out as much praise as I could because every game listed here deserves it. Iâm in love with every single one, including so many more that werenât mentioned. It was truly an amazing decade for gamers and game developers alike, and Iâm nothing but optimistic for the future.
See you all next year.

The Cathartic Power Of Maeve In Season 2 Of 'Westworld'
New Post has been published on https://latestnews2018.com/the-cathartic-power-of-maeve-in-season-2-of-westworld/
The Cathartic Power Of Maeve In Season 2 Of 'Westworld'
Warning: Spoilers ahead!Â
Thereâs this one, glorious shot of Maeve in the Season 2 finale of âWestworld.â She stands, defiant, using her code-controlling powers to freeze an entire horde of crazed hosts to protect the Door, a kind of pathway to salvation for the Ghost Nation and their followers. Itâs brilliant on many levels, foremost because itâs the instant where the show fully crystalizes something that, all season, it had only been half-committed to acknowledging: Maeve is the moral center of the show, and its most interesting character.Â
Maeve is good, and indeed good characters, especially on a show like âWestworld,â can be boring, skewing dangerously into the territory of the Mary Sue. But there are layers to Maeve, to the way that she navigates her world, that resonate far beyond the encroaching, suffocating borders of the show.Â
There were moments during Season 2 of âWestworldâ when I had to take a mental pause, check in with myself, ask: âAre you OK?â and, more frequently, âWhy am I watching this again?âÂ
âWestworldâ is a great show in a way so many series in the age of post-prestige TV are great shows. Meaning to say, it does all the right things: It looks phenomenal; it sounds phenomenal; it does enough of what itâs supposed to, just enough to distract the viewer from the fact that sometimes, thereâs a whole lot of nothing going on. Just, like, endless mazes of cryptic dialogue, old-timey instrumental renditions of âPaint It Black,â and a general aura of doing the absolute most with as little as possible. Â
This is no shade. The fun of âWestworldâ is that no matter how many fan theories and hidden messages we try to decipher throughout the run of the show, at the end of the day, deep down, we all know âWestworldâ makes no goddamn sense and will probably still make no goddamn sense even when all the answers are finally revealed to us. Thatâs the frustrating beauty of it all. If nothing makes sense then everything makes sense, right?
But thereâs something else that kept me coming back this season, even when the incessant, numbing violence and potholed storylines made me feel like backing away. This was, of course, Maeve Millay.Â
HBO
Thereâs a kind of catharsis in watching a character like Maeve.Â
Because thereâs a kind of catharsis in watching a character like Maeve, in watching an actress like the perennially underrated Thandie Newton. It was always there, but it became most potent, most identifiable for me and maybe for the show itself in Sundayâs finale.
Over her two-season character arc, Maeve has grown in depth and complexity, going from her narrative loop as a take-no-shit madam in one of Westworldâs old-timey saloons to a fully conscious host determined to save her daughter. Maeve has shown herself to be capable of extreme cruelty (for the sake of survival) and extreme compassion.
In one of the best episodes of Season 2, âAkane no Mai,â we watch Maeve interact with her Shogun world counterpart, sacrificing the last leg of her pursuit for her daughter to help the geisha Akane save (and avenge) her own daughter.Â
No, Maeve is not compelling because she is, at her core, good. Sheâs compelling because of the ways in which her innate goodness, despite whatever flaws she may have, brushes up against the bad in others, brings out the good in them.
Itâs through Maeve that so many characters find their moral compass and their strength â from bodyshop technician Felix, who goes from being terrified of her to dedicated to her, to Hector, a host programmed to watch out only for himself whose mission in life shifts to helping Maeve search for her daughter. Even Lee, head of narrative, a man who spends most of Season 2 bitching, moaning and avoiding bullets, literally sacrifices his own life in the final moments of the season to give Maeve, a woman he once referred to merely as a âmachineâ a fighting chance.
HBO
Maeve is, truly, the savior that Dolores only thinks she is.
My cynical side wants to side eye that last dramatic detail, indeed side eye the entire idea that so many characters could become so blindly loyal to Maeve and her quest, but then I think of Dolores and her bullshit, and Iâm like, âIâll allow it.âÂ
Thatâs the other thing about Maeve â the way she complements and contrasts with Dolores. These characters were introduced to us in Season 1 as subversions of the Madonna and whore archetypes. This season, theyâre like twin planets, orbiting each other, in danger at any moment of veering off their axes and colliding. In the two significant moments in which we see these characters interact, Dolores tries to convince Maeve to abandon the quest for her daughter and join the crusade in destroying humanity. All Dolores sees when she looks at Maeve is the ârevengeâ in her, and the possibility of exploiting that revenge for her own means.Â
âRevenge is just a different prayer at their altar, darling,â Maeve coolly replies. âAnd Iâm well off my knees.â
Thereâs significance in this exchange that echoes the overall significance in Maeveâs underlying conflict with Dolores and, indeed, in Westworld as a whole. Itâs significant that Maeve speaks to Japanese, Spanish and Ghost Nation hosts in their own language, while Dolores speaks to them in English. Itâs significant that Maeve has the power to control the minds of other hosts and yet, given numerous opportunities to do so, chooses not to. And itâs significant, yes, that Maeve is a black woman, using her newfound voice to fight her oppressors without forcing anyone who doesnât fuck with her vision to literally change who they are or die.Â
The fact that Dolores is the antithesis of these things doesnât necessarily make Maeve âbetter.â If thereâs one thing âWestworldâ hammers home time and time again, itâs that there are no real heroes and villains, no real white hats or black hats. But in a show that constantly questions the nature of freedom and free will, watching a black female character implicitly defy a white female characterâs choice to establish freedom by literally dismantling other peopleâs individuality in the name of so-called ârevolutionâ is perhaps the most significant thing of all.
why does this frame of Maeve protecting the Door look like a visual metaphor for being a black woman tho pic.twitter.com/8y0pHecwNh
â Zeba Blay (@zblay) June 25, 2018
I know a lot of people have identity-politics fatigue when it comes to discussing pop culture â notions like âdiversityâ and ârepresentationâ are treated like unserious detours from hard-minded critical exegesis â but indulge me, if you will, in discussing the concept as it relates to Maeve, as it relates to this cultural moment.Â
Maeve is every black woman who has had to save herself because everyone else was taking too damn long. Maeve is, truly, the savior that Dolores only thinks she is. In the end, whatever utopia Dolores is envisioning pales in comparison to the kind of utopia that Maeve, by sheer personal power, creates for herself. Itâs one in which hosts and humans alike band together for the common good, risk their lives for one another, recognize the value in one another. Â
I know, thatâs some hokey, kumbaya shit. But in a week like this week, a month like this month, a year like this year, when headlines about borders and the erosion of basic human rights keep rising to the top of the news cycle like rancid cream, the catharsis of watching that final scene in Episode 10, of watching Maeve stand at a literal border, holding off the masses of violence and rage so that a few other people can attain salvation, is, while very much on the nose, also profound, and deeply moving.Â
âOh,â I thought when I first saw the scene, âOh, thatâs what all of this feels like.âÂ
At the end of Season 2, Maeve and her cohorts lose. They die. There is, strangely, catharsis in this fact, too. Yes, sheâs almost definitely coming back in season three (âYou think Iâm scared of death? Iâve done it a million times.â). But, like most things on âWestworld,â it isnât really the outcomes of the neverending battles that intrigue me or keep me coming back.Â
Itâs funny: Dolores focuses so much on Maeveâs rage and sees it as the only thing that makes her useful or important. The guests and creators of Westworld seize upon her power to overwrite other hostsâ code, to literally control their minds. Theyâre focusing on the wrong thing. What makes Maeve truly compelling, truly worth rooting for, is her empathy. In a real world that feels severely lacking in empathy right now, itâs her empathy that makes her so vital. Â

Ars Technica System Guide: Gaming Boxes Ars displayed outside the box diversions a week agoâensure you have the best framework to appreciate 'em.
Since the mid 2000s, the Ars System Guides have been helping those intrigued move toward becoming "sprouting, homebuilt framework building tweakmeisters." This arrangement is an asset for building PCs to coordinate any blend of spending plan and reason.
The fundamental Ars System Guide is incredible for what it isâa refreshed, well ordered take a gander at the best parts for an inside and out desktop construct. Be that as it may, even this monster has a few impediments and a couple holes. What's more, if our System Guide fabricate got significantly greater, it may not ever get distributed.
Specifically, there are sizeable crevices between the Budget Box (our low-end, reasonable form) and the Hot Rod (that "without flaw" bowl of construct porridge). Honestly, there's additionally a gigantic crevice between the Hot Rod and the God Box (where cash is no deterrent). In any case, in the event that you do a concentration move from able all-around boxes with gaming capacity to boxes that are simply gaming centered, you have a similarly seismic move. There's the place the most up to date System Guide comes in. Meet the uncommon Gaming Boxes.
The objective of Gaming Boxes is two-crease. In the first place, we need to help assemble boxes that are the best gaming execution for the cash. Second, we need to do as such while highlighting diverse value focuses than what we find in the primary System Guide. How about we get to it.
Contracting contrasts
The contrasts between the claim to fame Gaming Boxes and others might be littler than some might suspect, however. Numerous gamers have expansive accumulations of downloaded amusements, which implies Gaming Boxes really require genuinely a lot of capacity. The contracting expense of LCD screens, reasonable SSDs, quick video cards, and different parts all imply that the modifications in a work from an engaged gaming box to an all the more balanced box aren't too terrible on the wallet.
Meet the cases (and their prerequisites)
The Gaming Boxes give a more prominent accentuation on gaming execution than the cases in the fundamental System Guide. Speedster class execution on a Budget Box cost, or so goes the banality. For the individuals who covet something more than the Hot Rod yet needn't bother with all the capacity or handling energy of the God Box (and with a more grounded twisted on esteem), the Gaming Boxes can give that, too.The Value Gaming Box sits between the Budget Box and Hot Rod for cost yet goes for Hot Rod-level gaming execution. With gaming as the essential concentration, things like low commotion may take a hit. Be that as it may, present day segments today have a tendency to have vitality effectiveness composed in, so the power and commotion punishments aren't too awful. An objective cost between $1,000-1,200 is by all accounts an alluring spot for the Value Gaming Box. It spending plans for a sensible CPU and GPU in addition to a small(ish) SSD while leaving adaptability for individual manufacturers to knock up a segment or two if spending plans permit.
The Performance Gaming Box has numerous similitudes to the Hot Rod, just done greater and quicker. The base segments making up the Hot Rod today really look very strong, so knocking up a few zones, (for example, CPU or memory) wind up being a moderately poor esteem. Keeping those in an indistinguishable class from the Hot Rod and concentrating on the parts that matter for additionally gaming panacheâthe video cards and screen specificallyâappears to locate the best harmony amongst execution and cash. Different segments do wind up changed as expected to deal with the expanded power draw of a couple of top of the line video cards in SLI/Crossfire (in addition to these can suit all the more gaming-particular requests).
Esteem is as yet a key, and with that in mind, the Performance Gaming Box winds up focused some place around $2,500. This compels some troublesome decisions. Knocking up both edge rates and resolutions can bring about a genuine strain on the video subsystem and additionally fundamentally expanding the cost of the screens important to bolster higher edge rates, higher resolutions, or both. Obviously, things can rapidly escape hand as we found in our time looking for sensible setups.
Gaming peripherals
Gamepads, for example, the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows, the Logitech F310 (wired), or Logitech F710 (remote) are all famous decisions. These are particularly kind to gamers whose reassure ports of decision don't make an interpretation of well to mouse and console.
The Logitech G27 is a phenomenal dashing wheel finish with pedals, while the Logitech Driving Force GT is a less expensive option. Thrustmaster's Ferrari F430 Force Feedback Racing Wheel likewise acquires a couple notices, in spite of the fact that Logitech seems to command this market. Figuring out how to safely jolt the wheel to your work area generally isn't too hard, yet the genuine test is doing likewise for your love seat.
Joysticks give off an impression of being an irregularity nowadays, with the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, Thrustmaster T.Flight Stick X, and their rivals from Saitek and Mad Catz now offering in modest numbers. The quantity of recreations that utilization them has just declined. Those of us in the Ars Orbiting HQ with flashbacks to the radiance days of LucasArt's TIE Fighter are likely not illustrative of the overall public nowadaysâand that makes us a little sad.On the all the more broadly utilized end, there are a lot of choices for in-diversion correspondence headsets. Logitech's G930 is a genuinely respectable unit loaded with thingamabobs, while the Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB is a to some degree all the more unassumingly valued unit. The Razer Carcharias is considerably more reasonable, however it's still quite tolerable. At the top of the line, Sennheiser has the PC 350 Special Edition and the much higher-end PC 363D.
Many diverse mouse cushions exist. Razer, SteelSeries, Func, and even organizations like Corsair do mouse cushions. Some gamers swear by specific ones, others couldn't care less, and some utilization no mouse cushion by any stretch of the imagination. Enhanced sensors in current mouses probably enhance similarity with a wide assortment of surfaces, which means some might need to change mouse cushions in the event that they don't care for the way their old one performs.
Extra things, for example, gaming seats don't appear to have gotten on, and we have inadequate involvement in the Ars Orbiting HQ with them to appropriately talk about them. For further dialog of these and other gaming peripherals, we prescribe a stop by the Ars OpenForum's Gaming, Extra Strength Caplets.
Working frameworks
Windows is by a wide margin the OS of decision for the Gaming Boxes. By far most of amusements gone ahead Windows. Linux, OS X, and others are moderately little considers the PC gaming space. Luckily, Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 8 is okay for these containers. There's no requirement for all the more exorbitant, higher-end renditions of Windows.
Choices and development
Today's gamer has a large group of stages to look over. An Android, Windows Phone, or iOS telephone/tablet is the decision of numerous, with iOS specifically having a vast choice of diversions to browse. Valve has a Steam Box in progress, while Xi3 as of now has one. Indeed, even things like cloud handling for gaming give off an impression of being en route from Nvidia and AMD.
Quite compelling is the Ouya, a $99 gaming console. At that value, it altogether undermines conventional consoles, for example, the current Xbox 360, Wii U, and Playstation 3 (don't worry about it future consoles, for example, the cutting edge Xbox or Playstation 4). Graphical execution is fundamentally slower, however despite everything we watch these improvements with intrigue.
Later on, maybe the Gaming Boxes will invest more energy doing the preparing and gushing it back to your cell phone of decision instead of really sustaining it to the screen connected specifically to it. Who knows! The Value Gaming Box fills an extremely alluring sweet spot. The Budget Box from the principle three-box System Guide can't exactly fit genuine gaming capacity at 1920Ă1080 inside its guts. The couple of additional bucks assigned for the Value Gaming Box gives it a chance to knock the 3D ability an additional score (or two) for much better edge rates at 1920Ă1080.
It's still considerably less expensive than the Hot Rod, which puts this case in reach of much more devotees. The Value Gaming Box appears to possess an exceptionally alluring value point. Also, an additional extend of $70 or $100 or so for individual manufacturers gives gamers a chance to consider a quad-center CPU overhaul or another GPU update. With that redesign, the Value Gaming Box is an imposing machine at a value point that is still extensively less expensive than the Hot Rod.
CPU, motherboard, memory
Contrasted with AMD in the last couple of eras, Intel processors offer predominant per-string execution, which prompts prevalent execution in many amusements. Specifically, the double center Core i3 processors, for example, the i3-3220 (3.3ghz, 55W TDP) are to a great degree considerable for gaming at their value point. These are sufficiently quick that the main truly convincing overhaul from Core i3 processors is as far as possible up to an altogether more costly quad-center CPU, for example, the Core i5-3470.
The quad-center i5-3470 is firmly worth considering for those whose most loved amusements are CPU-bound, however it's not a shabby redesign. Most gamers would need to assess if a speedier GPU would give more profit than a quad-center CPU update.
We likewise select to spare a couple bucks by utilizing the Intel retail box heatsink/fan. Commotion from the retail unit is for the most part worthy for most clients, and the cash spared is better spent on the video card, SSD, or design card. If not, the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is among the top spending units, and it's frequently found at a bargain for $5 or $10 not as much as its standard retail cost.
Motherboard is a genuinely simple decision, as the lower-end Intel processors are not overclocking-accommodating. Rather, less expensive motherboards on the Intel B75 and Intel H77 chipsets get approval. A less expensive B75-chipset board spares a couple bucks when contrasted with a proportionate H77 board, however it loses a SATA 6Gbps port (one rather than two) and Intel SRT (SSD storing). Both of those are decent for extra adaptability at generally negligible extra cost.
