Dine-Out Meals of May 2023, Ranked (Part 1)
I ranked the following based on taste alone. I made no consideration for ambiance or the general dining experience or whatever. I included meals I got to go. I included food trucks, catered meals, and fast food.
I haven't confirmed, but I believe this is the most restaurant meals I've ever eaten in a single month, mostly due to time spent on the road. So many meals that I've apparently hit the character limit for Tumblr. I'll have to break it up into two posts. This is the top 20 meals; the next post will be the rest. The top four meals will be in consideration for best of the year
Should you be interested in the pictures or reading the few words I had to say about each meal, click on the home page and scroll down or see the archives.

Exploring the Delights of Samosa Chaat at Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant Adelaide
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Adelaide, Australia, Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant stands as a beacon for food enthusiasts in search of authentic vegetarian Indian cuisine. Known for its commitment to quality and the use of pure desi ghee, Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant has carved a niche for itself among the local and expatriate communities alike. One of its signature dishes that has garnered widespread acclaim is the samosa chaat, a dish that encapsulates the essence of Indian street food culture with a gourmet twist.
The Essence of Samosa Chaat
Before delving into the specifics of how Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant has redefined this dish, it's crucial to understand what samosa chaat entails. Traditionally, samosa chaat is a savory snack that combines the crunchy texture of a samosa with the tangy and spicy flavors of various chutneys, yogurt, and masalas. It is a beloved street food across India, known for its complex flavor profile that dances on the palate, offering a symphony of sweet, sour, tangy, and spicy notes.
Ingredients and Preparation
The base of the dish is the samosa, which is a fried or baked pastry with a savory filling, typically made of potatoes, peas, spices, and herbs. At Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant, the samosas are prepared with utmost care, ensuring they are perfectly crispy on the outside while maintaining a soft and flavorful filling on the inside. The use of pure desi ghee in the frying process not only enhances the flavor but also adds a layer of richness to the dish.
Once the samosas are ready, they are broken into pieces and topped with a medley of ingredients including boiled chickpeas, diced potatoes, yogurt, and a variety of chutneys. The most common chutneys used are tamarind, which offers a sweet and tangy flavor, and mint-coriander, which adds a fresh and herby note. The dish is then garnished with sev (crispy chickpea flour noodles), diced onions, cilantro, and a sprinkle of chaat masala and red chili powder for that extra kick.
Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant’s Unique Touch
What sets Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant's samosa chaat apart is their dedication to authenticity and quality. The use of pure desi ghee not only adheres to traditional cooking methods but also appeals to health-conscious individuals looking for cleaner eating options. Desi ghee is known for its myriad health benefits, including aiding digestion and providing essential vitamins.
Moreover, the commitment to using fresh and high-quality ingredients ensures that each component of the samosa chaat is bursting with flavor. The vegetables are sourced locally, guaranteeing freshness, while the spices are carefully selected to achieve the perfect balance of flavors.
A Vegetarian and Vegan Haven
Rangoli Sweets & Restaurant prides itself on being a pure vegetarian establishment, with a menu that is also accommodating to vegan preferences. Their samosa chaat is a testament to how vegetarian dishes can be both nutritious and flavorful, providing a satisfying meal option for vegetarians, vegans, and even non-vegetarians looking to explore plant-based cuisine.

Desi Pubs in Cambridge | The Rise of Healthy Eating Options at Desi Pubs
Pubs are changing tremendously from their previous connotation of heavy comfort food and fatty drinks. In pubs, the hospitality industry is witnessing a shift towards healthier menu options, focusing on vegetarian and low-calorie options. Not influenced only by personal taste in food, this trend reflects a more significant societal movement towards health and mindful eating. This article explores the creative strategies used by pub owners, looks at the causes behind the increase in demand for healthier pub meals at Desi Pubs in Cambridge, and celebrates the delicious world of nutritional options that guests may enjoy.
Desi Pubs in Cambridge
The Evolution of Pub Food:
In the past, pubs were known for serving fatty food and various alcoholic beverages. Yet, bar-goers who are trying to watch what they eat are looking for tasty solutions that don't violate their diet plans. Since customers' tastes have changed, many restaurants and bars have revamped their menus to provide more nutritious options that appeal to a broader demographic.
Meeting Vegetarian Demand:
The increasing number of vegetarian alternatives has been one of the most noticeable trends in pub menus. Pubs are starting to pay attention to the growing percentage of vegetarians and flexible eaters by offering plant-based options that aren't an afterthought but substantial, fulfilling meals on their own. Vegetarians no longer have to settle for boring salads or spaghetti dishes; modern pubs provide creative, tasty vegetarian alternatives that entice even the most committed meat eaters.
Vegetarian pub cuisine is booming with ingenuity, from filling tacos with vegetables to burgers made with lentils. Pub chefs are dispelling stereotypes about vegetarian food by using a rainbow of colorful ingredients to create dishes that are as rich and fulfilling as those heavy on meat.
Low-Calorie Treats:
The increasing focus on health-conscious living has driven the demand for low-calorie pub options. Customers seek opportunities to maintain healthy eating while enjoying a night on the town. Pubs have responded by providing a variety of low-calorie dishes that are flavorful.
Steaming and grilling are two examples of current cooking techniques that help produce delicious and healthy food. These low-calorie options change people's perspective of pub cuisine, from grilled fish tacos with a tangy lime slaw to zucchini noodles with colorful vegetable stir-fries. The focus is on using high-quality ingredients and preparing them with care so customers can enjoy their meals without guilt.
Healthy Pub Eating Benefits:
There are a lot of advantages for customers and businesses alike as a result of the trend towards healthier pub offerings, which goes beyond just satisfying consumer demand. It implies additional options for shoppers to choose from that suit their tastes and help them achieve their health objectives. This way, they can still partake in the friendly pub culture without compromising their dedication to health.
Additionally, pubs that respond to people's developing preferences will likely see an increase in business from health-conscious consumers. It does double duty: it encourages patronage and brings in new customers, some of whom may have written off bars as unhealthy.
Regarding menu items, pubs can differentiate themselves from the competition by offering healthier options. It presents them as businesses that are aware of and able to accommodate shifting consumer preferences, and it lets them reach out to an expanding market of health-conscious individuals. By providing a wide variety of delicious and nutritious options, pubs can boost their reputation and improve everyone's eating experience.
Innovations and Challenges:
Although there is a growing demand for healthier pub options, some obstacles remain to overcome. People often worry that healthier options taste less good or provide less satisfaction. Pub chefs take this problem seriously, devoting resources to creating recipes that balance health advantages and flavors.
Also, it takes a lot of preparation and organization to get your hands on fresh, high-quality components for healthy meals. More and more pubs are forming ties with nearby farmers and suppliers to keep their menus sustainable.
Some bars are going over and beyond by creating healthier menu items that include international flavors and culinary trends. Pubs are diversifying their menus and offering healthier options to customers by incorporating flavors and techniques from Asian, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean cuisines.
Desi Pub in Cambridge:
Our beloved Brook Pub is transforming into a Desi Pub, complete with mouthwatering Indian food, cocktails, and live entertainment. Even though there are probably a lot of bars in Cambridge, you might be surprised to encounter a Desi pub there. Thus, everyone in Cambridge may expect a really memorable new year in 2024. Make sure you don't pass up this opportunity to peruse the updated menu and sample some of the finest indian cuisine in Cambridge, close to Mill road.
In Conclusion:
A reflection of the ever-changing character of the hospitality sector is the shift in pub fare towards more healthful alternatives. Pubs are actively embracing change and meeting the different requirements of their customers, moving beyond the cliché of greasy pub grub. Vegetarian and low-calorie options are becoming increasingly popular, and pubs are jumping on the bandwagon to lead the way.
Pubs that see the importance of health and well-being and work to improve their offerings in this area are satisfying customers now and positioning themselves for future success. As a result, everyone wins: customers may have fun without sacrificing their health goals, and bars can prosper in a changing, health-conscious industry. You won't be caught off guard the next time you visit a pub because their menu offers various suitable alternatives for your taste buds and your health.

eyebrows raise at the way amos says he wouldn't be all too surprised to learn what fred had his hands in. made him wonder about what sorts of conversations went on between johnson and the crew of the rocinante. since becoming involved with the rocinante he'd done his best to steer informational conversations away from the small little martian ship. he took all the information he could get but rarely divied it back out. it was the only real thing he could think of to help keep amos safe. although, there'd been few times when avasarala screamed national security to the point where he'd had to give her the smallest of somethings.
a plate of whatever desiderius ordered is slid right in front of his face. truth be told, he'd forgotten all about the food. slowly, he shoves the french fries around until he finds one that's a little less crispy than the others and picks it up. nice to have something other than noodles or burritos for a change even if he was missing his usual haunts right about then.
based on the sound of amos's voice, the broker moved. he slid into the seat right next to his lover and leaned in to press his forehead against the other man's temple.
" he will, " desi leans back and offers a small smile. a hand raises to cup amos's cheek. " he will. " even if desiderius had to throw money at it in order for it to happen. whoever lydia was to both him and charles was worth fighting for. it was worth leaving space and risking the life amos had set up for himself so desi would do everything in his power to make sure everything was taken care of.
leaning back, he continues the gentle caress of amos's cheek for both their sakes. for amos in the hopes of soothing whatever was going through his mind and for himself because desi could feel his compass shifting.
" not being righteous doesn't make anyone bad, lion. " hard not to think of his father at that. " my father would argue he was righteous purely for the sake of following some invisible man in the sky and yet he would screw anyone over at the drop of a hat. if you didn't fit into his pre-conceived notions. but lydia? she took you in when life was hard enough. she made space for you and tried to give you everything she could even though she barely had anything herself. that makes her a beautiful soul no matter what life forced her to do. " leaning in, he kisses amos's cheek. " we'll do right by that memory. "
"I've raised and buried your kind by the hundreds." "Yeah. Maybe not so much as you might think," Amos replied, though he wasn't particularly in the mood to elaborate unless Desi pressed. Fred Johnson was someone who used people to his advantage, and maybe it was with the best of intentions at heart -- though Amos wouldn't count on it -- but he was the kind of man that got people killed. And all too often, he'd seen his friends be the ones that Fred was throwing in the path of danger.
Not that Holden didn't do that well enough on his own. A frown tugged its way to life, and he glanced back at the room around them to make sure he hadn't missed anything he should be worrying about since the last time he'd checked. Another long pull on his beer, a finger raised to flag someone to bring him another as he sat the empty glass down on the table.
"Erich's gonna let him stay." There was a stiffness in the words, a resoluteness that made it clear that he was going to make sure of it, one way or another. Erich might have carved out his corner of the world, but that didn't mean that he didn't still have debts to pay. "He might not be happy to see me, and he might not be happy about it, but he'll do it."
His attention slides back to Desi, gaze dropping to the necklace that Desi was fussing with, a sign of the man's tension that otherwise might've gone unnoticed to anyone that didn't know him. "She told me once that she wasn't a righteous person. And she probably wasn't. Not sure anybody here could ever be called that. But she did right by me, and she did what she could to teach me how to be ...." The words failed him, then, crumbling away, the ache in his chest and throat stifling.

so there’s this brand called Ching’s Secret which sells Desi Chinese food and instant food, and it always slaps. this is a story about it.
so one day my mother was feeling adventurous at the local Indian Mart and bought the schezwan fried rice masala, and I was feeling adventurous so I cooked with it. it’s fairly simple, stiry-fry some vegetables, add the masala, add the rice, stir it for a bit, and serve. my family were big fans.
then I asked her to get some instant noodles from that brand, because i’m a huge fan of instant noddles. seriously, my instagram explore page is a bunch of people cooking Shin Ramyun. it’s so good. but instead she got the hakka noodles, which, while noodles, don’t have any flavour packets attached. What am I supposed to make with this, I think? so i ask her again, the next week, if she can find any flavourings so we’re not eating plain buttered hakka noodles for dinner or whatever. she grabs their green chilli sauce. fair enough, this is a flavouring. but I’m looking for More.
so in a stroke of genius/desperation
I use the fried rice mix. stir fry vegetables, add in the masala, add in the noddles and stir-fry. and yall. it was GOOD. it was BETTER THAN THE FRIED RICE. maybe i’m biased because i like noodles more than rice. but it was so unexpectedly good. and with the Green Chilli sauce? GOATed meal. now my family expects hakka noodles with fried rice masala.

Animal fats: Buttercream, processed cheese, high-fat dairy, red meat, and shellfish.
Vegetable fats-coconut oil, palm oil
Hydrogenated fats-known as Trans fats. These are cheap vegetable oils made solid by the process of hydrogenation. They are found in kinds of margarine, packaged baked food, biscuits, confectionery, fried food, french fries, coffee creamers, whipped toppings.
