New Scotland Yard: We Do What We Can (2.11, LWT, 1972)
"I have to be careful."
"You're big and ugly enough to look after yourself."
"Not with this little firm I'm not."
"Which firm?"
"Jimmy Sutton's. He don't believe in straighteners. Goes in for surgery."
"Surgery?"
"Amputation with a sawn-off shotgun."
"Ah. Well, you can always apply for a claim at the Criminal Injuries Board."
"I wouldn't have a leg to stand on, would I?"

Not sure if you’ve answered something like this before, but what’s your favourite fictional interpretation of Napoleón?
There are no fictional Napoleons! They are all real, and they all live deep in my heart! What are you implying? That I don't have an army of Napoleons gathered from across all media, ranging from 19th century caricatures to modern video games living in my home?! Perish the thought! Watch your mouth or I'll sic my Attack Napoleons on you!!
I certainly won't be actually answering this question in my tags!
#//joking aside#i'm partial to 2002's napoleon christian clavier#but i think that's a lot of my generation's 'default' napoleon#that's the one you bump into inevitably if you go through a 'napoleon phase.'#i feel like a lot of it depends on the stage of napoleon's career?#gun to my head I GUESS i'll go with philippe torreton in Monsieur N?#just because the movei itself is inherently a more 'close up' portrait of napoleon given its subject matter#and the actor does a good job or portraying a man trying to frantically hold onto his dignity but never veers into a caricature?#compare to blanche in 1989's hostage of europe which explores the same period and while i do enjoy it...something about that napoleon is TO#pathetic and lacks a little too much dignity#weirdly i do like napoleon best when he isn't a main character just because i think he's a little too big#and so i think as a character he works best as a cameo#like dennis hopper is good i hate to admit it but i liked that napoleon too much#and of course there's the fellow in josephine ou - you know the one#but i can't REALLY discuss it because i can only find the first episode#the rest is in russian and i don't speak russian

Did the crowd's hatred outmatch Blitzø's?
Christ on a stick indeed, Blitzø.
This question, which our beloved imp had kindly raised himself, has been bothering me since the 'Apology Tour' came out.
I've seen plenty posts speculating on this topic, and it's not going to be a super unique take, I admit, but I would still like to think aloud about what that party really symbolizes.
Is it the true extent of Blitzø's tendencies to hurt anyone who dares to reach too close? Or was it exaggerated by Verosika?
Let's see what evidence we have on hand and make some assumptions about what that could mean.
A quick note of appreciation before be begin: I sincerely admire the amount of work done on detailing the crowd at the Halloween party. Just look at the progress in animation they've made since the 'Queen Bee' episode! From animating three-four people max to drawing almost each character separately, and giving basic movements to many of them.
(tumblr, your 10mb gif restriction sucks ass. I struggled to show just how good these animations are with such a limited size)
Wow, my hat's down, I am in awe.
But okie, let's go.
The avoidance
It would be silly to deny that Blitzø has issues forming meaningful, deep connections. He is afraid of affection, of love. We've seen this with Stolas. We've seen how hurtful, brash, and aggressive he becomes when offered vulnerability and feelings, how deep his distorted view of the world runs. During the Full Moon tryst, he is so terrified that he is completely deaf to what has actually been said, and he lashes out violently, scorching everyting along the way.
We also know Blitzø is extremely horny and finds comfort in sex, while being too scared of emotional attachment and craving it just as much. Given this, is it really surprising to see more people affected by his demeanor?
Take Verosika, for instance. He dumped her by running off after she confessed her love, leaving her to pay for a hotel room, stealing her car, running three Rings to Wrath, and maxing out her credit card on shitty horse riding lessons.
Then there are some people we don’t know who are visibly destroyed by their time with Blitzø. We know nothing about them, but simply observing their distress and Blitzø’s reactions is enough to draw conclusions.
We can endlessly sympathize with Blitzø. We understand what he has been through, why he behaves the way he does, and how much he still suffers. However, this does not give him a carte blanche to ruin the lives of those around him. The show does not glorify him as a poor, misunderstood figure—instead, it poignantly exposes how insensitive he has been to other people's feelings, and shoves it in his face immediately after he damages another relationship that, as we know, he actually held dear.
I mean, from some points of view, even Dennis, who only made out with Blitzø, could justifiably be deeply offended and scarred by his insults...
...
...
...
Wait... fucking DENNIS is here?
The hatred
Okay, something doesn’t add up. This was supposed to be a party for those whose hearts were broken, not for whiny bitches who couldn’t handle one little insult that’s quite common in Hell’s environment!
Ugh, thanks, Dennis. Now we need to untangle the other side of the mess, because it’s clearly not so one-dimensional anymore. But fuck you still, you fucking suck (affectionate <3 you actually slay).
So, what’s going on? Let’s take another look at the crowd.
For starters, Tex, baby, what are you doing here? Didn’t you say her beef ain't yours? Why the fuck are you involved? Did she pay you to be a backup for Stolas and passionately repeat 'motherfucker,' referring to someone who arguably did nothing wrong to you?
And aren’t those succubi and incubi from Verosika’s Spring Break entourage? Lads and lasses, did Blitzø fuck up your bleeding hearts too, or are you just hanging out at the same places as Verosika?
Fucking Wally selling hate merch? Blitzø, look at me—do you remember him in your bed? Or, maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t give two shits and is just capitalizing on a quick profit opportunity?
Blitzø doesn’t remember everyone from that party; he admitted that at the very beginning of our discussion. He recognizes some of them though, but doesn’t act particularly sorry...
As much as I’m willing to believe and admire Blitzø’s stamina to fuck that many people, I don’t think he’s had enough weekends in his adult life to meet, charm, have intercourse with, and dump all of them. The math just isn't adding up.
But he never questions whether the crowd was genuinely hurt by him or if they just came as someone’s friend or to participate in a thrilling experience of hating on someone they might not even know. Hey, those piñatas, darts, and fire pits look quite fun, don’t they? It almost seems like they don’t care about the implications—literally bullying someone and taking joy in it.
So, could Verosika be a little too obsessed with building the image of Blitzø as an irredeemable, ruthless, and atrocious imp, to the point of letting just about anyone in to exaggerate the extent of the real issue? Perhaps even doing it quite intentionally?
What the actual hell?
Before you get lost in my elaborate attempts to make my point, let me draw three conclusions from what we’ve seen.
Conclusion one: Both statements are true.
We’ve learned that not everyone in the crowd was hurt by Blitzø. However, even if we narrow it down to just the confirmed cases—six in total (Stolas, Verosika, two crying demons, and two demons Blitzø acknowledged before insulting them again)—it’s still a significant number. It’s enough to start questioning Blitzø and encourage him to change, as this harmful tendency leads to nothing good. For Stolas's sake and for his own, too.
Conclusion two: Blitzø entirely belongs to this party.
His spiky, insufferable attitude he shows to others is actually, from some point of view, this:
He is so adamant that he doesn’t deserve love that he deems all the affection shown to him as a lie. So he pushes away, snarls, insults, and attacks. Because how dare you love such a monster? This can’t be true; this is wrong!
It is himself whom his hatred is directed toward.
He should be an honorary guest at this party, a fucking star invitee. No one can fucking beat him in the craft of hating on himself.
And the crowd, which he didn’t even attempt to challenge, is just a showcase of what he thinks he is. It represents what he actually isn’t, considering we’ve proven that some of the people there have nothing to do with him. It’s an exaggerated, untrue reflection of his worst ideas about himself.
Conclusion three: Verosika's obsession with bullying Blitzø is unhealthy.
Yes, even considering her good intentions to help those who suffered because of him.
Just as the crowd reveals Blitzø’s extent of self-loathing, it also highlights her inability to move on and the persona she has created for herself. She is wholly engulfed in it.
While we now understand her point of view and where she is coming from, it doesn’t excuse her for organizing the bully party, stalking Blitzø and his partners… Seriously, how invested do you have to be to learn about the breakup after just one night? Or to even know who your ex of 5+ years (allegedly, we don’t know for sure) dated to begin with?
Lady, you need to put away your booze and get yourself together. He acted horribly, no doubt, but the effort you’re putting into trying to prove he’s a motherfucker just isn’t worth it.
This isn’t the solution. People are either still hurt or just enjoy hating on Blitzø, but they are simmering in hatred nonetheless.
They are not healing, and neither is Verosika.
A closing note (yay?)
TL;DR (should be at the beginning, really, but who cares): Everyone in this show needs some fucking therapy. Mental health sucks ass in Hell (wonder why?). And bullying also sucks. Don’t be bullies. Thanks.
Okay, class, put away your notebooks and put down your pencils. The homework will be to find some anti—and... why the excited, shimmery eyes? *gasp* No, don’t bully them. Have you learned nothing from what I've said? Move on. Block them. Because #stolitz will be canon, and nothing will change that, so let them whine somewhere else.
Thanks for your attention! <3
#again let's breathe in and repeat#it's not Blitzø's fault to be like that#but it's his responsibility to take control of it and be better#for himself and for Stolas and for everyone he cares for#and me not focusing on Stolas's slip ups doesn't mean he is in the clear#I am kinda tired to repeat it actually *sigh*#and if you noticed I swear too much in this meta you can thank Blitzø for that#akira's whimpery metas#helluva boss#blitzø#helluva boss spoilers#helluva boss apology tour#stolitz#stolas x blitz

Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.
#long post#miss billboard tourney#i wasn't originally going to list them all but i decided to do so because there are so many without propaganda

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY
based on: The White Crane Institute's 'Gay Wisdom', Gay Birthdays, Gay For Today, Famous GLBT, glbt-Gay Encylopedia, Today in Gay History, Wikipedia, and more … January 12
1564 – Queen Elizabeth I reinstates the buggery law in England which makes sodomy illegal.
1706 – Pennsylvania eliminates the castration penalty from its sodomy law.
1751 – On this date the Baltic German writer of the Sturm und Drang movement Jakob Lenz was born (d.1792). Lenz is remembered as the most creative and original of Goethe's Strasbourg friends and, because of failures in his personal life, as a figure of pathos. The son of a Lutheran pastor who received a theological education at the University of Koenigsberg, Lenz was a religious thinker who saw himself as prophet as well as poet.
In 1771 in Strasbourg, he met the young Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who at this time happened to be in Strasbourg, and whose acquaintance Lenz made, as well as that of Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling. Goethe now became Lenz's literary idol, and through him he made contact with Johann Gottfried Herder and Johann Kaspar Lavater, with whom he corresponded.
In the following year, 1772, Lenz accompanied his literary masters to the garrisons of Landau, Fort Louis and Wissembourg. He also fell in love with Friederike Brion, once the beloved of Goethe, but his feelings were not reciprocated.
Recent scholarship has has revealed Lenz's relationship with Goethe. In books like Karl Hugo Pruys' "The Tiger's Tender Touch: The Erotic Life of Goethe" and Alice Kuzniar's "Outing Goethe and His Age" Lenz's full character and sexuality has been revived. Lenz was deeply in love with Goethe. Indeed he wrote countless love letters to the writer in which he professed his desire to be Goethe's wife.
Historians of Goethe have always been puzzled by an incident in Goethe's life. In April 1776 Lenz followed Goethe to the court of Weimar where he was at first amicably received. But in early December, on Goethe's instigation, he was expelled. The exact circumstances are not recorded; Goethe, who broke off all personal contact with him after this, refers only vaguely in his diary to "Lenz's idiocy" ("Lenzens Eseley"). Historians seem puzzled by this strange rejection of Lenz. A clearer reading of their relationship or Lenz's desires for Goethe make the situation a bit more clear. The rejection may have been a break in their relationship or a spurning of Lenz's attentions.
1856 – John Singer Sargent American portrait painter, born (d.1925) was the most successful portrait painter of his era, as well as a gifted landscape painter and watercolorist. Sargent was born in Florence, Italy to American parents. He studied in Italy and Germany, and then in Paris under Emile Auguste Carolus-Duran. Among the artists with whom Sargent associated were Dennis Miller Bunker, Carroll Beckwith, Edwin Austin Abbey (who also worked on the Boston Public Library murals), Francis David Millet, Wilfrid de Glehn, Jane Emmet de Glehn and Claude Monet, whom Sargent painted.
He developed a life-long friendship with fellow painter Paul César Helleu, whom he met in Paris in 1878 when Sargent was twenty-two and Helleu was eighteen. Sargent painted both Helleu and his wife Alice on several occasions, most memorably in the impressionistic Paul Helleu Sketching with his Wife, 1889. His supporters included Henry James, Isabella Steward Gardner, (who commissioned and purchased works from Sargent and sought his advice on other acquisitions) and Edward VII, whose recommendation for knighthood the artist declined.
Sargent was, as they say, "extremely private regarding his personal life," though the painter Jacques-Émile Blanche, who was one of his early sitters, said — after his death — that Sargent's sex life "was notorious in Paris, and in Venice, positively scandalous. He was a frenzied bugger." Was the bugger refernce as in "buggery"?. As homophobic scholars put it, "the truth of this may never be established." Some have gone so far as to boldly suggest that Sargent was homosexual. He had personal associations with Prince Edmond de Polignac and Count Robert de Montesquiou (the model for Des Esseintes in Huysman's A Rebours, and even more famously, the Baron de Charlus in Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu, and, in real life, if you will, Prince Polignac's life-long lover, as well), two of the most notorious homosexuals of the age.
Sargent's male nudes reveal complex and well-considered artistic sensibilities about the male physique and sensuality; particularly evident in his portrait of Thomas E. McKeller but also in Tommies Bathing (both above), nude sketches for Hell and Judgement, and his portraits of young men, like Bartholomy Maganosco and Head of Olimpio Fusco .
There were friendships with women, as well, and a similar sensualism informs his female portrait and figure studies (notably Egyptian Girl, 1891). The likelihood of an affair with Louise Burkhardt, the model for Lady with the Rose, and the first wife of author J.R. Ackerley's father is accepted by Sargent scholars. Sargent's friends went so far as to wonder if he and Burckhardt had formed a romantic attachment. His enthusiasm while creating the picture of her probably instigated the rumors, but a mutual friend learns from Sargent in 1882 that "he does not care a straw for her." Despite numerous friendships with women throughout his life, this is the only episode to cause associates to doubt his status as a "committed bachelor." His sensuous, unparalleled appreciation of male beauty leaps off the canvas to this day.
1941 – On this date the pioneering British bluesman Long John Baldry was born (d.2005). Born John William Baldry in England, he grew to 6' 7" which resulted in the nickname "Long" John. Gifted with a deep, rich voice, he was one of the first British vocalists to sing blues in clubs.
In the early 1960s, he sang with the seminal band, Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated, with whom he recorded the first British blues album in 1962, "R&B at the Marquee." At stages, future Rolling Stones members Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Keith Richards and Brian Jones played in the band. The Rolling Stones supported Baldry in their first concert at the Marquee Club. Later, Baldry was the announcer introducing The Stones on their US-only live album, "Got Live if You Want It!," in 1966.
Baldry became friends with Paul McCartney after a show at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in the early 1960s, leading to an invitation to play on one of The Beatles 1964 TV specials. In 1963, Baldry joined the Cyril Davies R&B All Stars with Jimmy Page on guitar and Nicky Hopkins playing piano. He took over in 1964 after the death of Cyril Davies. It became Long John Baldry and his Hoochie Coochie Men featuring Rod Stewart on vocals and Geoff Bradford on guitar. Stewart was recruited after Baldry heard him busking a Muddy Waters song at Twickenham station after Stewart had been to a gig at Eel Pie Island.
In 1965, the Hoochie Coochie Men became Steampacket with Baldry and Stewart as male vocalists, Julie Driscoll as the female vocalist and Brian Auger on Hammond organ. After Steampacket broke up in 1966, Baldry formed Bluesology featuring Reg Dwight on keyboards and Elton Dean, later of Soft Machine, as well as Caleb Quaye on guitar. Dwight adopted the name "Elton John" (taking his first name from another member of the band, Elton Dean, and his surname from Baldry).
In 1967, he recorded a pop song "Let the Heartaches Begin" that went to number one in Britain, followed by a 1968 top 20 hit titled "Mexico", which was the theme of the UK Olympic team that year. "Let the Heartaches Begin" made the lower reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
Baldry was openly gay during the early 1960s when homosexuality was still criminalised and medicalised. Baldry supported Elton John in coming to terms with his own sexuality. In 1978 his album Baldry's Out announced his formal coming out, and he addressed sexuality issues on A Thrill's a Thrill, a song on the LP.
Bluesology broke up in 1968, with Baldry continuing his solo career and John forming a songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin. In 1969, Elton John tried to commit suicide after relationship problems with a woman. Taupin and Baldry, who was by now openly Gay, found him, and Baldry talked him out of marrying the woman, helping make John comfortable with his sexuality. The song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" from "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" was about the experience.
In 1971, Elton John and Stewart each produced one side of "It Ain't Easy" which became Baldry's most popular album and made the top 100 of the US album charts. The album featured "Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll" which became his most successful song in the US. John's first tour of the US was this time. Baldry's 1972 album "Everything Stops For Tea" made the lower reaches of the US album charts.
After time in New York City and Los Angeles in 1978, Baldry settled in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he became Canadian. He toured the west coast, as well as the U.S. Northwest. Baldry also toured the Canadian east, including one 1985 show in Kingston, Ontario, where audience members repeatedly called for the title track from his 1979 album "Baldry's Out!" - to which he replied, "I'll say he is!"
He played his last live show in Columbus, Ohio, on July 19, 2004.
1951 – Mark Segal is an American journalist. He participated in the Stonewall riots and was one of the original founders of the Gay Liberation Front where he created its Gay Youth program. He was the founder and former president of the National Gay Newspaper Guild and the founder and publisher of Philadelphia Gay News. He has won numerous journalism awards for his column "Mark my Works."
Segal was a participant at Stonewall in 1969 and help found the Gay Liberation Front that same year. He was also a member of The Christopher Street Gay Liberation Day committee, which organized the first Gay Pride parade in 1970.
In 1972, after being thrown out of dance competition for dancing with a male lover, Segal crashed the evening news broadcast of WPVI-TV, an act that became known as a "zap" and that he helped popularize. He repeated the action during many other television broadcasts.
In 1975, he went on a hunger strike on behalf of the passage of a law to guarantee equal rights for homosexuals. In 1976, he founded the Philadelphia Gay News, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) newspaper in the Philadelphia area. The publication was inspired by activist Frank Kameny, whom Segal first met in 1970. In 1988, Segal had a televised debate with a Philadelphia city councilman, Francis Rafferty, about Gay Pride Month.
Segal partnered with the Obama Administration to create and build the nation's first official “LGBT Friendly” Senior Affordable housing apartment building. The 19.8 million dollar project known as The John C. Anderson Apartments opened in 2013.
Segal is Jewish and originally from Mount Airy, Philadelphia. He attended school at Germantown High School and Temple University. His friends include several prominent gay activists like Barbara Gittings, Frank Kameny, Harry Hay and Troy Perry.
On July 5, 2014, Segal married his partner of 10 years, Jason Villemez. At the time, Villemez was 29 and Segal was 63. The ceremony was officiated by Judge Dan Anders, Philadelphia’s first openly gay judge.
1954 – Today is the birthday of Felipe Rose, better known as "the Indian guy from The Village People." He was born in New York and grew up in Brooklyn. He's part American Indian (Lakota) and part Puerto-Rican (on his mother's side). He actually studied dance with the Ballet de Puerto Rico and was later discovered by the music producer Jacques Morali while working as a bartender and dancing in a New York gay club and recruited for a new disco group he was forming.
While the producers were busy recruiting and preparing the other members of the group, Rose was sent to Paris where he choreographed a native dance number for the Crazy Horse Saloon. When he returned to the U.S., he suggested that the other members of the group wear uniforms representing different "manly" occupations in New York's Greenwich Village. The rest as they say is history. His hits with the Village People hits include Macho Man (1978), YMCA (1978), In The Navy (1979), Go West (1979), Can't Stop the Music (1980)
In 2000, Rose began to work on his solo career. His single "Trails of Tears" was nominated for 3 Native American Music Awards for Best Historical Recording, Song of the Year and Best Producer. In 2002, Rose was the opening act of the 5th Annual Native American Music Awards and won a NAMMY Award for the Best Historical Recording.
In 2005 Rose called up the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC to offer them his framed gold record for the disco group's 1978 megahit "Y.M.C.A." The staff of the new museum had never received such a call but were delighted to accept the items into their collection. The Washington Post's writer Hank Stuever opined that the museum accepted the record "on the precept that sooner or later they might need such an artifact of a bygone era, perhaps to flesh out a future exhibit on the folkloric value of disco, and native cultural responses to it."
1973 – Joel Derfner is an American writer and composer. He is the author of three gay-themed books: Gay Haiku (2005), Swish: My Quest to Become the Gayest Person Ever and What Ended Up Happening Instead (2008), and Lawfully Wedded Husband: How My Gay Marriage Will Save the American Family (2013). His articles have appeared in publications including the Huffington Post, The Advocate, Time Out New York, and Between the Lines. Derfner and his works have been cited as references on gay culture, and he has been noted as one of "today's best-known gay writers".
He is the composer of several musicals, and he teaches musical theater composition at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Derfner was also co-star of the first season of the 2010 reality television show Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys, along with his close friend Sarah Rose.
Derfner was born in 1973 in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. His parents were civil rights activists, and were active in Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement. His father, Armand Derfner, is a civil rights lawyer, and his mother Mary Frances Derfner (née Seddon) met Armand when she became his legal secretary in Washington, D.C. in 1967. Joel's father is Jewish and his mother was Christian; he was raised Jewish and converted to Judaism at the age of seven His mother, who suffered from type 1 diabetes, died in 1992. Joel came out to his parents as gay when he was 15.
Derfner lives in New York City with his husband, Mike Combs, a psychiatrist who runs an inpatient unit at a New York City psychiatric hospital. He and Combs became engaged in 2007.[88] The couple were legally married in Iowa in May 2010 and had their formal wedding ceremony in October 2010 in Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
1974 – Chinese Gay Rights Pioneer,GLBT activist and attorney Zhou Dan came out to his friends in 1998 and the media in 2003. A champion of GLBT rights in China, Zhou writes articles on Chinese gay and lesbian Web sites. Although many GLBT Chinese use pseudonyms, Zhou uses his real name. After revealing his sexuality to a Shanghai newspaper in 2003, Zhou appeared across China in newspapers and magazines and on television. Earlier that year, he established the Shanghai Hotline for Sexual Minorities.
One generation removed from the persecution of gays under the People's Republic of China, Chinese gays encounter different obstacles than their American counterparts. Many Chinese believe that homosexuality exists only in the western world. The absence of legal protection and the threat of social isolation keep most Chinese GLBT individuals in the closet.
Zhou also fights for rights of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS in China, by advocating a human-rights-based approach to the epidemic.
In 2004, Zhou attended Yale Law School's China Law Center as a visiting scholar. In 2006, he taught China's first graduate class on homosexuality at Fudan University in Shanghai.
1986 – Kieron Richardson, born in Eccles, Greater Manchester, England, is an English actor and Presenter best known for playing the role of Ste Hay in Hollyoaks.
After appearing briefly in the late night Hollyoaks: In the City, Richardson was offered the role of Ste Hay in the early evening Hollyoaks where he appeared for 19 episodes. The character was written out of the show after stealing a car, which resulted in a spectacular crash and his character getting sent to prison. He returned to Hollyoaks on 25 September 2007, and has been a regular cast member since.
Richardson has also made appearances in Holby City, Heartbeat and the feature film Fragments, as well as the pantomime Cinderella as Prince Charming at The Embassy Theatre, Skegness in 2006.
Richardson took part in 2010 series of ITV's Dancing on Ice and was paired with series newcomer Brianne Delcourt. He reached the final, finishing in third place.
In 2011, Richardson and his Hollyoaks ex co-star Bronagh Waugh started presenting on radio station Gaydio.
On 15 September 2010, Richardson revealed on television programme This Morning that he is gay, and accepted it at the age of 20. He was inspired to come out by X Factor winner Joe McElderry. In July 2014, Richardson received a torrent of homophobic abuse via social networking site Twitter. That month Richardson announced his intention to marry long-term partner Carl Hyland the following year. In April 2015, the couple were married in a star-studded ceremony in the Peak District.
In December 2016, Richardson announced they were expecting twins via surrogacy. They have twins born in 2017, a boy and girl.
2009 – On this date a landmark of sorts occurred on American daytime television when after months of teasing and steamy kisses, the soap opera As The World Turns featured the boyfriends Luke and Noah finally having sex in a breakthrough episode for daytime television.
2012 – A firestorm was set off by the revelation that a Canadian government lawyer had filed a document in a divorce case stating that same-sex marriages entered into by foreign couples who reside in jurisdictions that do not recognize same-sex marriage are not valid in Canada.
The statement was at first widely regarded as an attempt to undermine same-sex marriage by the Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. After the legal brief had been denounced roundly both in Canada and abroad, the government announced that it had no intention of reopening the question of same-sex marriage and that it recognized as valid the same-sex marriages of foreign nationals.

MISH your dennis cosplay was so convincing I was nearly scared out of my MIND.
and eye for an eye, here's a jubilation-actually-had-weight fic I was working on some time ago!
So with all the resolution Ladybug could muster, she triumphantly put her hands on her hips. “It would take a lot more than lack of sleep to take me down!” Feigning repentance, she scratched the back of her head. “But maybe I could stand to lay off the night espressos, yeah?”
He chuckled. “Jeez, what are you getting up to that late anyway?”
Thinking of how you looked happier than ever with our baby in your arms.
“Oh, the usual, you know, thinking and drawing and sewing to get into—” She blanched at her almost-admission to personal life details. “Forget I said that last part.”
Rolling a rock under his boot, he said, “So, just thinking?”
“Yeah, not very surprising, huh?”
He shrugged. “I understand how you feel.”
“Oh.”
He nodded, and she felt that she hadn’t been convincing at all at placating his worries, but there was the mutual understanding that what she said was final anyway. Without moving from their spots, as if waiting for the other to say something else, they shifted their weight, unsure of how to proceed or end or anything in between this stagnant moment.
She was thankful when he broke it. “Well,” he started, scratching behind his ears, “I promised someone I would see them this evening, so…”

Not for the Faint of Heart, Pt. 1
Story Summary and Content - 3,473 words. Larissa has long term side effects from her multiple hypoxic injuries. Explicit sex, seizure, drowning, on-site resuscitation.
__
Six months after the events of Hostile Work Environment
Larissa
“Alright, then, if there aren’t any more questions, I’m going to let Mark wrap up.” This was code. She’d texted him near the end of the presentation to tell him she was feeling off, and he slipped in no more than two minutes later.
She smiled at the group, ignoring Mark’s openly concerned look, and excused herself. As she made her way out through the back exit of the conference room, she kept her head held high, moving at a reasonable pace. They could still see her; it wouldn’t do to collapse in the hall, or take off running.
Not that she thought she could run right now. She felt heat roar up her chest and neck and into her face. It was close. She could see the door she shared with Kieran up ahead. Her face started to tingle. She got the door open, took a couple of steps inside, and before she could get herself down onto the floor, her brain took over, fading everything to black as it dumped her body on the carpet.
Mitchell
Most of the C-level employees were in his office, drinking coffee and discussing what needed to go on the agenda for an upcoming work session. Mitchell sat on the corner of his desk, listening to them talk.
“Well,” Cherise said. “I should definitely go before Dennis. We all know Finance is his favorite part.”
Everyone laughed and Dennis rolled his eyes. They continued to banter, and Mitchell saw his door open just wide enough for Liam to slip in.
This wasn’t unusual; his assistant had carte blanche to do so if he determined it was necessary. What was unusual was the look on his face. The younger man looked worried, and he urgently motioned for Mitchell to come to the door.
This was also unusual; Mitchell stood, murmured: “Excuse me,” and hurried to meet his assistant.
Liam waved him out of Mitchell’s office and into his own, then pulled the door closed and said: “You need to go to Kieran’s office, Larissa fainted.”
“Is she okay?” Mitchell asked, already headed that direction.
They exited into the hall together, and Liam continued: “Kieran was really worked up, so I came to get you instead of just checking on her myself.”
“You did the right thing,” Mitchell said, jogging the last few meters down to Kieran and Larissa’s office suite. He opened the door without knocking, and was confronted with the sight of Larissa sprawled gracelessly on the carpet, her hair fanned out around her head and her skin and lips the color of sour milk. Kieran hovered over her, the much younger woman looking like she was about to have a panic attack.
“Woah, shit,” he heard Liam say. “Should I—”
“Larissa!” Mitchell called out sharply, dropping to his knees next to her. He cupped her cheek and was about to check to see if she was breathing when she stirred, her limbs flinching and her eyelids fluttering. “Hey, Larissa, open your eyes.”
“She did that two or three times right before you walked in,” Kieran sniffled. “But then she didn’t wake up!”
“Larissa!”
She made a groaning noise and then her eyes opened, staring up at him in incomprehension while she blinked and took a deep breath. She frowned, and then she said: “Mitchell?”
He wanted to say something silly, like: Last time I checked, or Were you expecting your other boyfriend?, but he just couldn’t muster his sense of humor. Instead, he kept his hand on her face and then reached down and found hers with the other, squeezing. “Hey, are you okay?”
Someone knocked on the door, and Liam cracked it open to see who it was.
“I was in a meeting,” she murmured, looking confused.
“It’s Mark,” Liam said.
“Go out and let him know she’s okay, I don’t want more people crowding in here. Then go make excuses for me in my office,” Mitchell requested.
“Of course, got it. Feel better, Larissa,” Liam said before closing the door.
“What happened?” Larissa whispered, her eyelids fluttering even as her eyes roved around the room.
Kieran had stopped sniffling, and she looked over at Mitchell. “She seems really out of it this time.”
“Agreed. Clear her schedule for the rest of the day, and one of us will let you know about tomorrow.”
“Of course, sir,” she said, climbing to her feet.
“And thank you for being so caring, Kieran. I appreciate it.” He looked down at Larissa, trying to decide if she could stand long enough for him to get her to the sofa in her office.
“What happened?” Larissa asked again, her voice thick. “Mitchell?”
“You fainted,” he said. “In front of Kieran’s desk.”
“I finished the meeting,” she muttered, frowning. “I texted Mark, and let him say the goodbyes, and came down here. I wasn’t feeling right…”
He could see that her color was already improving; lips and cheeks pinking up. To his dismay, however, he saw tears well in her eyes.
“Would it be okay if I sat you up?” Mitchell asked, stroking her cheek. “I’m thinking you might be more comfortable on the sofa in your office, but let’s start with sitting up, okay?”
“Okay,” she said, nodding. He took his hand off her cheek and slipped it under her shoulders, lifting her upright. Her hair was mussed, fluffed up in the back like they’d been doing something much more pleasant. He smoothed it down for her and then leaned in to kiss her temple.
“How’s that?”
“Fine, actually. I don’t feel too bad.” She scrubbed her hand across her face and then said: “I could probably stand, if we’re just going into my office.”
He looked her over, decided she didn’t look any worse, and nodded. “Okay. On three? One, two, three…” He pulled her to her feet and wrapped an arm around her waist, letting her lean on him as they walked. He pushed the door closed behind them and sat her down on the sofa, dropping down beside her.
Larissa sagged against him, sighing. “I’m really tired.”
“I can tell.” He reached over and stroked her hair. “Do I need to take you to the hospital?”
“No,” she said. He felt her shake her head. “I might need a nap, though.”
“Would you like to lay down here for a while before I take you home, or do you want me to take you straight home?”
“Here, please. Then I can muster a public appearance for the staff on my way out the door.”
“Alright.” He helped her lay back, slipped off her shoes. He pulled the afghan off the end of the sofa and tucked her in, leaning over to give her a quick kiss. Even though she looked a lot better, he could still feel tension across his shoulders and the pounding of his heart in his chest. He took in her face and then said, clearly: “I love you.”
“Oh,” she said, her tired eyes going wide. “We haven’t said that before.”
“I know, I just—”
“I love you, too.” She pulled his head down for another kiss.
A few moments later, she was asleep. Mitchell sat in her desk chair, watching her doze, not quite able to shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Larissa, three months later
“How are you?” Mitchell asked, his arm brushing hers as they hiked up the trail.
“I’m good.” She chose, early on, not to be irritated by reasonable and solicitous questions such as these. He genuinely cared, and she genuinely needed him to care. She reached over and squeezed his arm.
“If you get too hot or something, just let me know. I can’t always tell just by looking at you.”
“I know,” she said. “It’s been a while, though. I’m just crossing my fingers that it never happens during a presentation.”
“I guess right after doesn’t count?”
“No, not since my client had no idea it even happened.”
“Ah, I see.”
She slipped her arm around his. “I am sorry. I was okay, I just needed a minute. Well, an afternoon. And it hasn’t happened since.”
“I know you were okay,” he said, his voice quiet. “But I wasn’t.”
She pulled him to a stop. She’d noticed recently that his hair had started to turn grey, at his temples and the outer edges of his eyebrows, and wondered if that was her fault.
“I’m sorry,” she murmured, reaching up to caress his face. “I didn’t mean to ignore your feelings.”
He leaned over and kissed her forehead, then her lips. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
They continued up the trail, chatting about everything except for her health, much to her relief.
“I expected more people to be here,” she said. “Though I’m glad there’s not. I suppose it’s because it’s a weekday.”
She opened her water bottle and took a long swig. She thought they were nearing the top; the plan was to see the top of the trail’s small waterfall and then hike back down and go for a swim in the pools at the bottom. She was enjoying the fresh air and the exertion; any chance to feel alive.
They hiked the last stretch hand-in-hand, neither bothered by sweaty palms. As they climbed the steps to the observation deck, the air grew cool and moist.
“Oh, that’s nice,” she murmured, leaning against the rail and turning her face toward the spray. She felt Mitchell lean in and kiss the back of her neck. “That’s nice, too.”
She closed her eyes and tipped her head back. He kissed her, his arms going around her body. Then he kissed down the side of her neck.
“I’m all sweaty,” she murmured.
“Mmm.” He nibbled on her ear.
“You’re going to get me all wound up and it’ll be hours before you can do anything about it.”
One of his hands ran down the front of her body and cupped her through her shorts. “There’s no one around.” She felt his tongue behind her ear.
He wasn’t wrong. They hadn’t seen anyone all morning. She leaned back against him and rolled her hips. He dropped the day pack he was carrying and turned her in his arms, his mouth hungry against her lips. His hands were everywhere, caressing the sides of her breasts through her top, grabbing her ass, tugging on her ponytail. She opened her mouth so he could plunder it with his tongue, ran her hands underneath his shirt.
He grasped her ass and lifted her, and she wrapped her legs around him. He walked them toward the far side of the deck, into the corner tucked behind a rocky outcropping. Mitchell sat her down on the deck and pressed her back against the rock, reaching between them to unbutton her shorts.
She felt his hand slide inside her shorts and bathing suit bottoms, his fingers lightly tracing her folds to test her readiness. Then he broke the kiss and lowered himself to his knees, his hands pulling her shorts and suit bottoms down to her ankles. She stepped out of them, leaving her bottom half exposed to the sunshine.
He placed his hands on her inner thighs and encouraged her to widen her stance before he leaned close and put his mouth on her, licking her clit with the flat of his tongue. She flinched and drew in a deep breath, tipping her head back against the rock.
He licked her with several long strokes before fastening his lips over her clit and sucking. Two fingers slid inside her and curled, pumping in and out. She moaned and leaned back against the rock.
After a few moments, once she was panting and writhing against his hand, he withdrew his fingers.
She watched him strip off his shirt and lay it on the decking, then he pulled her down, his mouth seeking hers. She spread her legs wide as he laid down on top of her. He didn’t bother removing his shorts; he pulled his erection free and then slid himself inside of her.
They didn’t last long. Larissa wrapped her legs around him and met him thrust for thrust, moaning each time he bottomed out. He slid his hand between them, circled her clit with his thumb. She felt herself tighten, the pleasure coiling inside her almost painful in intensity. Then her back arched off the deck and she cried out, her muscles clenching hard around him. A few seconds later, she heard him groan and felt him pulsate inside of her.
They laid there for a moment until he stirred, kissed her, and helped her to her feet, a broad smile on his face. She pulled on her suit bottoms and shorts, grinning back at him as he pulled his shirt over his head.
“Ready for a swim?” he asked, retrieving his pack and reaching for her hand.
She took a deep breath, relishing the fresh smell of the air and the well-used feeling between her thighs. She could feel him leaking out of her as she walked.
The trail for the swimming hole branched out from the main trail, quickly descending toward the water. By the time they got to the flat rock along the edge, they were racing to take off their clothes and shoes. Mitchell won, stripping down to his swimming trunks and creating a big splash as he jumped in. Larissa approached the edge of the rock in her two-piece and stood there for several seconds to give him time to appreciate the view before she jumped in after him.
The water was significantly cooler than the air temperature. She popped back above the surface, sweeping water out of her eyes and grinning. “God, this water feels good!”
They spent a while splashing each other and swimming around. After a while, she clung to a rock, idly treading water with her feet. “How deep is this, do you know?”
“I read that sign outside the bathrooms when we got here,” he said. “It’s almost 12 feet deep.”
She watched as he climbed out and padded over to their pack. As he walked, she realized the air was filled with strange, little colored dots of light. She blinked her eyes and tightened her grip on the rock. Mitchel spoke, but she didn’t catch what he said.
Despite the cool water, a wave of heat rolled up from her navel and burned into her hairline. Her face began to tingle and the colorful lights bleached to white.
Dammit. “I need to get out,” she mumbled. There wasn’t a good spot to climb up from where she was. She released the rock, intending to swim back across, when she felt her body stiffen and a blackness descended over her consciousness.
Mitchell
Taking a swig from his water bottle, he reached into his pack, feeling for the small box stowed in one of the smaller pockets. He’d wait until they were out of the water; he’d wanted to propose at the top, but thought she’d be reluctant to wear the ring in the swimming hole.
“Are you thirsty?” he called out.
He couldn’t make out her response, so he zipped up his pack and turned to look.
He was just in time to see her push away from the rock. Then she went stiff, bowing back in the water as her eyes rolled back in her head. To his horror, she sank like a rock.
His water bottle hit the boulder with a clang, and he ran forward and jumped in after her. The cold water closed over his head and he opened his eyes, looking wildly around him. It took him longer than he wished to find her; she’d descended faster than he expected. She was ghost pale when he saw her, limbs jerking as though she’d regained consciousness and was trying to swim. He swam over and grasped her wrist, pulling her close and then heading for the surface.
He realized his mistake when they broke the surface; she wasn’t swimming, she was seizing. He wrapped his arm around her chest and tipped her head back against his shoulder, trying to keep her face above water while he swam with one arm to the lowest section of rock he could find.
Getting her out was difficult. Initially, she convulsed against him, throwing him off balance as he tried to haul her out of the water. Then she went limp.
He finally pulled himself out, keeping a grip on her upper arm, then dragged her out after him. Her body was limp, her head lolling. He was breathing hard as he cradled her head, lowering her to the flat surface of the rock.
“Larissa!” He tipped her head back and leaned his ear close to her mouth, resting his hand on her chest. He took a few steadying breaths to calm himself and held his own breath, waiting.
She wasn’t breathing, and when he pulled back, he could see that she was already going gray. He leaned over and pinched her nose, inhaling deep and pressing his mouth over hers to make a seal. Then he breathed into her.
He felt resistance, but her lungs inflated. Her chest rose under his hand, and fell when he broke the seal.
“Come on, baby…”
He pressed his lips to hers again. They felt cold, but he told himself it was due to the temperature of the water. Her chest fell, and he pressed his fingers to the pulse in her throat. His own heart was pounding so hard he couldn’t tell if what he felt was her pulse or his own. He was afraid to wait until he was sure.
“Don’t do this, Larissa!” He clasped his hands together and pressed them between her breasts, eyeballing the correct spot. Then he pushed down, hard. Her chest gave under his hands, her large breasts threatening to wobble out of the cups of her top. “One, two, three, four, five, six…”
He heard a deep gurgle from her lifeless body, and a small amount of water trickled out of her mouth. Her stomach was distended, made more evident by his compressions, which caused her soft abdomen to quake. “…twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four, HELP!”
He finished the round of compressions and gave her a breath before he stretched back, snagging the strap of his pack and dragging it closer. Another breath, and then he dug his cell phone out. No service.
Foam bubbled inexorably from her nose and mouth, pouring out onto the rock.
“Fuck!” He shoved his hands back between her breasts, pounding mercilessly, so hard her body made a rhythmic gagging sound and her head flopped to the side, a gush of water streaming from her mouth. “…ten, eleven, twelve...”
Preserve brain function until help arrives. But no help is coming. Jesus, please start breathing!
“…twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four, twenty-five, twenty-six, twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine, thirty!”
Another breath, and then he looked at her phone just in case, to no avail. More foam was welling up out of her nose and mouth. He forced another breath past it.
“HELP!” he shouted. Now, he regretted the lack of strangers on the trail.
“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…” Her eyes were closed, her unresponsive body taking his assault hard. Every compression forced a wet gagging sound from between her lips. Another spurt of water escaped her mouth, sweeping away the foam. “Please, Larissa, please don’t die…”
He turned her face upright and sealed his mouth over hers, breathing for her. Then sucked in another breath and screamed: “HELP!”
Her limbs flinched, head rolling back to the side as her throat worked. Mitchell gasped and bent close, cupping her face in his hands. “Larissa! BREATHE!”
He stared at her for several seconds and then straightened her head and gently opened her airway. He gave her another two deep breaths, then reached down and pressed his hand hard into her abdomen. Her chest heaved and she started gagging, water and foam coming out of her nose and mouth. He rolled her onto her side, fingers grasping for her jaw so he could point her face toward the ground. She coughed up and vomited copious amounts of what appeared to be mostly water. He checked her mouth anyway, terrified that she would choke.
“Just breathe, Larissa. Breathe, baby!”
She seemed to retch and cough for a long time before her breath came regularly, chest heaving and lungs wheezing. He moved around so he could see her face. Her eyes were still closed, and her mouth hung open. He could see a fresh bruise forming between her breasts.
“Larissa, can you hear me?” He ran his thumb over her cheek. “Wake up, Larissa, please!”
She didn’t respond.

Get ready for Dobbs 2.0, a decision that will far exceed the damage done by the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health.
In Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health, the radical majority on the Supreme Court ruled that there is no constitutional right to privacy that protects reproductive liberty. As a result, the debate over regulation of abortion was returned to the states. Or so we thought.
It is likely that a single federal judge in Texas will issue a nationwide ban on Mifepristone, a drug approved by the FDA for more than two decades to induce therapeutic abortions. The ruling, if made, will effectively outlaw or deny access to abortions across vast swaths of the nation—even in states where legislation or the state constitution protects the right of reproductive liberty.
We have reached this sorry state of affairs because ultra-conservative federal judges in Texas have rigged the system to ensure that all challenges to reproductive liberty and LGBTQ rights are funneled to a single judge with extreme religious views. The situation is explained by Dennis Aftergut and Laurence Tribe in Slate, The Texas-Sized Loophole That Brought the Abortion Pill to the Brink of Doom.
Aftergut and Tribe write,
The problem here goes beyond a single hearing, or even this single case. The real issue is systemic. Far-right groups have created a judicial pipeline to predictable triumph in one culture war battle after another: from Kacsmaryk in the plains of the Texas panhandle, to the hyperconservative U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, to the radically stacked majority on the Trump-packed U.S. Supreme Court. One Amarillo-based judge with carte blanche, virtually certain his extreme views will prevail on appeal, is apparently planning to curtail abortion access across the country.
[Here, there is] a coordinated national strategy, enabled by a district court federal bench, to bring right-wing legal causes into a single courtroom where a favorable result is a sure thing and where fair-minded appellate review has also been hijacked.
There is a simple—albeit difficult to achieve—solution. We need only elect a Congress and president willing to enact legislation to reform the federal judiciary. That will require (in my view) a carve-out of the filibuster, an expansion of the Supreme Court, curbs on the ability of a single federal judge to issue nationwide injunctions, restrictions on the ability of the Supreme Court to issue merits-based decisions on its “shadow docket,” and enactment of an enforceable code of ethics on the Supreme Court (among many other reforms).
At some point, the imposition of an extreme religious ideology on all Americans by a new class of judicial aristocrats—or “juristocrats” as described by Aftergut and Tribe—should cause Americans to reclaim their constitutional birthright. We have been too complacent in the face of a concerted assault over the last decade. Perhaps Dobbs 2.0 will be the decision that finally causes Americans to understand that the reactionary judges aren’t going stop until they have effectively codified their religious beliefs in federal law. The coming decision will hurt. Let’s turn our outrage into action.
North Carolina Supreme Court to reconsider case underlying Moore v. Harper.
On Tuesday, March 14, the North Carolina Supreme Court will hold a hearing to reconsider its ruling in the case underlying Moore v. Harper, currently on appeal before the US Supreme Court. You may recall that Moore v. Harper raises the question of whether the Independent State Legislature theory insulates the NC state legislature from judicial oversight.
Last year, the North Carolina Supreme Court overturned congressional district boundaries drawn by the state legislature. When the partisan composition of the NC Supreme Court flipped from Democratic to Republican, the new Republican majority on the court agreed to reconsider its ruling—for no good reason other than that it could.
Chances are good that the NC Supreme Court will reverse its prior ruling, thereby mooting the appeal to the US Supreme Court. The complicated procedural background and possible outcomes are explained by Democracy Docket, North Carolina Supreme Court To Rehear State-Level Redistricting Case Underlying Moore v. Harper - Democracy Docket.
Like the rogue federal judges in the Fifth Circuit, the Republican judges on the NC Supreme Court are making nakedly partisan rulings because they can. Like the solution for the federal judiciary, the solution in North Carolina is through the ballot box.

New Scotland Yard: My Boy Robby? (2.13, LWT, 1973)
"Why?"

Mary Astor and Clark Gable in Red Dust (Victor Fleming, 1932)
Cast: Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Gene Raymond, Mary Astor, Donald Crisp, Tully Marshall, Forrester Harvey, Willie Fung. Screenplay: John Lee Mahin, based on a play by Wilson Collison. Cinematography: Harold Rosson. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons. Film editing: Blanche Sewell. Costume design: Adrian.
Victor Fleming is the credited director on two of the most beloved films in Hollywood history: Gone With the Wind (1939) and The Wizard of Oz (1939). I say "credited director" because many other directorial hands were involved in both movies. Gone With the Wind is mostly the product of its obsessive, micromanaging producer, David O. Selznick, who fired the original director George Cukor, some of whose scenes remain in the movie, along with others directed by Sam Wood and King Vidor. The Wizard of Oz, too, was primarily the work of its producers, Mervyn LeRoy and Arthur Freed; once again a director, Richard Thorpe, was fired from the film before Fleming was brought on, LeRoy directed some of the scenes, as did Cukor and Norman Taurog, and the Kansas scenes were directed by Vidor after Fleming went to work on GWTW. So was Fleming more than just a replacement director or a fixer of movies gone astray? The best evidence that Fleming was a good director on his own is Red Dust, a funny, sexy adventure romance that established Clark Gable as a top box-office draw. Fleming demonstrates a sure hand with the material, keeping it from bogging down in melodramatic mush in the scenes between Gable and Mary Astor. The action is set in Hollywood's idea of a rubber plantation in French Indochina -- what Vietnam was called back when Americans were pronouncing Saigon as "SAY-gone," if the movie is to be trusted. Dennis Carson (Gable) manages the plantation when he is not being distracted by the arrival first of Vantine (Jean Harlow), a shady lady, and then of Barbara Willis (Astor) and her husband, Gary (Gene Raymond), an engineer who has been sent to survey an expansion of the plantation. Carson and Vantine have been spending several weeks of unwedded bliss before the Willises arrive, but pretty soon he is making a play for Mrs. Willis, using the old trick of sending the husband off to survey the swamps while she remains behind. All of this is handled with delicious innuendo, possible only because the Production Code had not yet gone into effect: for example, the scene in which Vantine rinses off in a rain barrel while Carson looks on (and in), or the fact that Carson and Mrs. Willis's adultery goes unpunished except for a flesh wound. Both Harlow and Astor sashay around in improbable barely-there finery by Adrian. Fleming went on to make another pre-Code delight with Harlow, the screwball comedy Bombshell (1933), which contains an allusion to the Hays Office's concerns about Red Dust. John Lee Mahin was screenwriter on both films, though some of the better lines in Red Dust were contributed by the uncredited Donald Ogden Stewart. The movie is marred only for today's viewers by some period racism: the colonialist attitude toward the native laborers as "lazy" and the giggling Chinese houseboy played by Willie Fung.

Secret Love, Chapter 6: Picnic
After some time of peaceful silence, enjoying each other’s company, Yuri’s tummy growled. Dennis smiled and kissed his cheek. “Sounds like you’re getting a bit hungry, my love,” he said. “Luckily I had the kitchen staff prepare a nice picnic for us to enjoy.”
“Ah, a picnic does sound lovely,” Yuri said, marking his page with a bookmark and closing his book. “What did you have prepared?”
“We’ve got slices of roast lamb to be served with horseradish sauce, duck pate with crusty bread, spinach and cheese quiche, asparagus lightly blanched and drizzled with a vinaigrette, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, delicate cucumber sandwiches, a selection of the finest cheese in the manor with crackers, sweet fruit tarts, colorful macarons in various flavors, rich chocolate truffles, and elderflower cordial,” Dennis said, setting fine china and silver cutlery on the checkered blanket they were sitting on.
“Well, that all sounds like quite a delicious spread,” Yuri said, smiling as the butler began serving him the food. “You do know what foods I like to eat.”
“Indeed, only the best for my precious lord,” Dennis said, offering a plate to Yuri. The cabbage-haired marquess took it with a smile and took a bite of the food. “Delicious! I’m assuming you did some of the cooking yourself?”
“But of course!” Dennis replied. “I wanted everything to be absolutely perfect for you.”
“Well, it certainly is,” Yuri said.
