Denis Ten foundation is asking the mayor of Almaty City to rename the ice arena "Halyk Arena" located in Almaty, after DENIS TEN.
This is one of the smallest things that we can do to say "thank you" to him for everything.
If you love Denis, go sign this petition!

Attention figure skating fans⛸
If you guys happen to have a couple minutes to spare could you please check out and possibly sign this petition to rename Halyk Arena in Almaty after Denis Ten? I think that it would be an amazing symbolic gesture to make sure that Denis Ten's legacy can live forever and that young skaters can keep looking up to him and his example🥇
Thank you😗

I’ve been feeling very upset and incredibly sad about Denis Ten’s death, I’m crying on and off this past 2.5. days. I can’t stop thinking about his family, his mother Oksana, his father and his bother.
He brought so many joyful moments to millions of fans with his extremely beautiful performances. He also did so much for his country in his short life. He loved life, he was joyful, funny, kind-hearted, helpful, thoughtful and talented in many, many ways. I can’t comprehend how someone so beautiful and young like him had to die in such an absolutely horrible way. How can be life so cruel? Where is the truth?
I won’t forget the moments when I cheered for him in front of the TV and in the arena. In Helsinki, I was holding my little Kazakhstan flag to cheer for him and I was very happy that he delivered a great short program. I won’t forget Worlds 2013, his Olympic peformance in Sochi (which was the free skate of the night) and his Silk Road FS from 2014/2015.
In PyeongChang, his incredible musicality, skating skills and artistry touched me in the deepest way. I was sad he didn’t make into the free skate.
But I was happy when I saw his name of the GP entries list. I was looking forward to see him again in Moscow and cheer for him there.
Something that will remain only a dream.
Thank you for everything, Denis.
Sleep well.

just heard about Denis ten' s death.
I really don't know what to say, my feelings are too fucked up rn to come up with an inspiring and hopeful paragraph.
it's just so unfair, he was so young and talented. he was one of the most giving, kind, focused and dedicated skaters out there.
I didn't always love his programs, but the dedication, hard work and artistry he put into them was unmistakable.
how the fuck can someone take a person's life just to get a couple car mirrors? how can those people even be seen as humans?
rest in peace Denis, your legacy won't be forgotten. I hope that his loved ones get all the love, respect and help necessary to get through this.

Let’s get back to the main reason why I started this blog in the first place: Otabek Altin - Kazakhstan’s main export to the anime world, although made, well, in Japan.
You might be wondering, how come a minor character in an anime about figure skating who only appears for 3 episodes can promote an entire country? Well, apparently he can. Especially when it’s a stoic badass with a killer undercut on a Harley from the outside and a pure cinnamon roll from the inside.
Due to the overall popularity of Yuri!!! On Ice (the name of the anime) and Otabek’s short but memorable appearance, interest in Kazakhstan in the anime community just skyrocketed. The interest, I should say, was only positive, which is great, considering Kazakhtan’s rather, ehh…, unfortunate experience with publicity by a fictional character, made outside of the country, so to speak.
Despite minor nuances (like Otabek being an Uzbek name, not Kazakh; the Kazakh one would be Atabek), I really liked how the mangaka presented Otabek to audience: reserved, determined and kind, with a great sense of style, quite a bold haircut (it is by Kazakh standards - I know, sounds crazy) and an unusual choice of transportation (Kazakhs do love their Toyotas Camry). Although, you might not really find such Kazakhs on the streets of Almaty, it just makes Otabek standout from the crowd and the stereotypes about Kazakhs by Kazakhs.
Btw, Otabek was mostly inspired by one of our national treasures aka Denis Ten - the only Olympic medalist in figure skating from Kazakhtan, who’s very well known in the international skating community. So, things like Otabek’s complexion, height (168 cm), haircut, clothing and probably skating style, training history, even his signature teddy bears were borrowed from Denis. There are some differences though like Denis being ethnically Korean, and he’s just all smiles and a cinnamon roll all the way throughout, while Otabek is undoubtedly Kazakh, hiding his cinnamonrollness under a serious façade.
Nonetheless, without Denis Ten, there wouldn’t be Otabek, and Kazakhstan wouldn’t have even been mentioned in this anime.
But it was, and it’s wonderful.
