I’m flattered, honoured and very happy with this collaboration. 🪢🧶One of the case studies is the Australian protest group @knittingnannassyd that use craft and knitting in their environmental protests. As I keep saying, I do not consider myself an artist (yet). I humbly accept someone’s admiration for me as an Artist. Well, if the one considers me the artist, please help me to be the one… I am still confused and hesitant. ☆ - - - ☆ 「刺し子はアートと違う……」という信念の真横で、自分はアーティストなのか？というダブルスタンダードにもなりかねない疑問があります。個人的には恵子さんはアーティストだと思っていて、それなりに説明できる理由もあります。きっと、本人は肩書なんぞ馬鹿らしいと思っていると思うけれど。 ☆ 僕もそれくらい強くなれれば良いのですが、でも、英語圏で自己表現をしていく上で「アーティストかどうか」という覚悟は、避けて通れない気もしてきています。「淳はアーティストだよね」という評価は、すこしムズかゆいですが、有り難く頂くようにしています。ムキになって否定するのも違うしさ。自分から、「俺はアーティストだ」というのは、殻を何枚も剥く必要がありそうです。一番嫌なのは無責任な人。誰これ構わずアーティストと名付け、アーティストを育てようとも支援しようともせず、またアーティストを言い訳にして努力をしない人。案外多いんですよ……。アーティストは自称で誰でもなれます。でも、きっと本当のアーティストって、育てて貰うもんだと思うんですよね。そういう意味で、僕はまだまだヒヨッコだなと思うのです。 ☆ #Sashiko #SashikoArt #SashikoStitching #VisibleMending #ColorfulMending #SashikoDenim #DenimMending #刺し子 #刺し子ジャケット #芸術 https://www.instagram.com/p/B4EFgPKpGTI/?igshid=9b3l3pc4cyrg

It is easier to mend denim on my machine but today is Sunday, slow time. So I chose a movie and hand mend hubby's work jeans. Not pretty but sturdy enough. For the first time, we are offering the "short version" workshop focusing on Denim Mending. I wanted to try, before offering the workshop, that I can complete a small Denim Mending with Sashiko with in an hour or so. The video is on Youtube ("Sashi.Co Channel" - Edited Version), and I uploaded the short version on Instagram. ☆ In order to get the core of Sashiko, I believe the person need at least 2 hours of stitching. This workshop is focusing on how to do mending rather than doing Sashiko, yet introducing the Sashiko Mending. I will be a part of @the75Collective Pop-up. I am thinking to start a new project naming “100 of Sashiko x Denim Jeans”. To complete my confidence in Sashiko & Denim, I plan to offer the service with the minimum fee for Sashiko Denim work, for denim with your story. I will update the detail soon, but there is some condition such as this is requires the Sashiko on the actual denim fabric (Patchwork is okay, but not only that). ☆ I started stitching on Denim about 10 years ago to avoid wearing the Sashiko workman pants in our previous studio. I simply didn’t like the outfit of the workman uniform. (Now I think it is cool to wear, but I liked Denim Jeans more). I was allowed to be selfish - spoiled son of the president. Yet, I wanted to have Sashiko for some advertisement purpose. It was a way to wear Sashiko without being too Japanese looking. Now, I feel stitching on Denim is my passion, yet I still feel I could use some improvement to be fully confident. I stopped purchasing new cloth about 3 years ago, and has been doing fine with a few pieces of denim… so I don’t have any more denim to do stitching on :D. Adding your story to the 100 of Denim would be very honorable. I will share the detail of the project soon. ☆ 「仕事中は刺し子の作務衣でも着てたら良いんじゃない？」と苦言を呈されてた昔。でもどうしても嫌でした（笑）。その後、刺し子そのものは好きになったのだけど、でもなーんか職人さんが着ている作務衣を着るのがどうも嫌で、結局毎日履いてるジーンズに刺し子をしたら良いんじゃないの？と思い出して始めたデニム x 刺し子。お伝えしたいのは、きっかけは「カッコいいから刺し子デニム」じゃなくて、「刺し子を現代で身につける為に苦肉の策で始めたのが刺し子デニム」ということ。勿論、その後は「カッコいいから」続けてるんだけども。そんな僕の原点とも言える刺し子とデニム。まだまだ経験も知識も足らないな……と思うので、100本のデニムを刺し子しようと思っています。また詳細はブログにて紹介します〜！ ☆ #Sashiko #SashikoDenim #VisibleMending #刺し子 #刺し子デニム #Levis #DenimMending https://www.instagram.com/p/BxvP0_yJDXi/?igshid=1rlkum9si6lnx

I recently practice the regular Sashiko stitching (unshin) mainly, and not being able to work on the Denim Mending. For me (Atsushi), it is the origin of interest in Sashiko. So I gotta work on a Mending Project to respect what I do. Yet, it is a bit challanging to find a denim with a hole or damage on. Thank you for the patience.
