The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) | Official Trailer
The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a lore-rich and choice-driven historical fantasy visual novel inspired by Irish mythology and Celtic folklore. Play as a tenant farmer from mid-19th century Ireland, whose path becomes inexplicably entwined in fairy affairs after getting robbed by the roadside and lured into the mythic and war-torn world of Tír na nÓg: A once unified land, now divided into the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. Will you escape and return home with your stolen belongings? Or does fate have something else in mind?

Facts & Questions: The Game
🍃 The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe) is a Kickstarter-funded project currently in development. Due to the scope of the story, we will be releasing content serially on Steam and Itch.io over several years, beginning November 1, 2024. While you wait, feel free to play our demo! The revised version, with all new backgrounds and more voice acting, has been released on Steam and Itch.io as of August 1st, 2024!
🍂 The main character's name and pronouns are determined by the player, but in Vol. 1 (or the demo content), the MC will be referred to as "they/them" due to a case of mistaken identity.
🍃 Thanks to our Kickstarter, all upcoming routes will have both romantic and platonic choice options. If you're uninterested in romance, feel free to make friends instead!
🍂 Due to its Irish setting, NDM will occasionally feature instances of characters speaking in Gaeilge, i.e. the Irish language. All instances of Gaeilge are linked to an internal translation tool, which will be voiced by Nigel McKeon, a Gaeilgeoir.
🍃 Shae and Robin are non-binary characters, and respectively use they/them and any/all pronouns. Robin and Keagan are also arospec, and Shae is asexual. (Note: You can pursue the arospec characters romantically, but their romances might look a little different as a result of their identity.)
🍂 The free demo consists of the introductory volume of The Good People (Na Daoine Maithe). It is 2.5 to 3 hours of total gameplay, and ends at the point in which the player would continue on to a route (Vol. 2-7). The full game will be paid.
🍃 NDM is very intentionally set just prior to the onset of the Great Famine, which is both thematically and textually relevant to the leftist, anti-imperialist story we're aiming to tell. If you would like more insight into this, refer to this post.
🍂 Some Mac users who directly download the demo from Itch.io run into issues launching the game. If you're also running into issues, please refer to this post on our itch.io page.
🍃 Prepare yourself for horse related shenanigans. 🐎

RESOURCES FOR ARTISTS VOL 1
In the spirit of gratitude for the plethora of free resources out there for artists that I've been gleefully ransacking my entire life, I want to share some of them that I've compiled.
smithsonian open access: this is a HUGE one! lots of images that are absolutely free to use, as well as an incredible set of 3-D resources. Their collection spans the same breadth that their multiple museums do-- natural history, gems, fine art, aerospace/engineering stuff, etc. so do not sleep on this.
Tumblr media
(screenshot is the 3-D digitization page, one of my fav sections)
2. The League of Moveable Type is a resource for free fonts, but not just any free fonts-- professionally designed free fonts. Some of the bigger sites can be a lot of wading through sub par stuff, but every single thing here was very carefully and lovingly designed, and is free.
3. Unsplash is full of great free to use images. Seriously, huge collection. Portraits, textures, 3-D renderings, you name it and it's probably here and free to use. ALSO cool because images will note whether their creator is for hire if you like their work. You can also submit your images to this platform. (I think it has a premium section but I haven't needed to engage with it yet)
Tumblr media
(screenshot of unsplash.com with a search for 'y2k render')
4. rawpixel's Public Domain collection. They've been high quality scanning public domain images for a while. They're free to use under a CC0 license, which is basically without restriction. They've got lots of categories, I personally love the Graphic Design and the Vintage Illustration sections.
Tumblr media
(screenshot of the 'patterns' section of the Public Domain collection on rawpixel)
5. Photopea is a free Photoshop alternative that runs in your browser. It's got a few quirks(especially if you run a non-chromium browser, but stay strong anyway) and is ad-supported, but really powerful and robust. It also opens PSD files, supports smart objects and basically all of the Photoshop asset filetypes(.abr .grad .pat etc), as well as has filters, even a couple that Photoshop itself has gotten rid of in their more recent versions. You can use the fonts on your machine, export transparent pngs, and do generally anything that the big guy does. You can also donate a small amount to remove ads and support the singe person(!) who created and maintains it.
Tumblr media
(screenshot of a .psd file with smart objects/smart filters open on photopea. The 'file' dropdown menu shows exciting options such as 'export' and 'save as psd')
6. Brusheezy.com is a great place to get free brushes, vectors, and photoshop assets in general(which can all be used in Photopea, btw).
Tumblr media
(screenshot of the 'categories' page of brusheezy.com)
7. dafont.com Last but not least, I will include this huge font site but assume most people already have it on their radar. Free fonts! No account needed to download! Tons of categories! Many are demo/limited versions, so pay attention especially if you plan to use numbers or special characters as those are often the things left out of the free to use demo versions. It's nice to have a lot of options but to the discerning eye a decent amount of the fully free fonts here will fall a bit short/feel unpolished. That's not to discourage you from it, as I have a huge collection of types from here and routinely check it when I need something specific.
Tumblr media
(screenshot of dafonts.com with the 'sci-fi' section pulled up)
So that's what I've got right now for visual art resources, I hope you can find something useful in here. Feel free to share this list and keep an eye out for the next one! Thanks to everyone out their with a love for sharing in their hearts, it's really inspired me to make some things with no other intention than to put them into the world as tools for others!

hii! may I request a reading for the conflict of ador and be-lift (newjeans and illit) about how will it play out and what are the group members' overall energy and opinion on this?
because illit has been accessed of copying newjeans and I had this very... humourous imagination of them awkwardly standing in the lift not looking at each other 💀
H O N E Y B U Z Z
vol. 1.2: newjeans&i'll-it's feelings about the situation in hybe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone in NewJeans are feeling really messy, to be honest.
Minji is trying to fight with her actual feelings (which are, with one word, mess) and get over this situation. She's trying to work for the group's comeback to move on and be at least neutral, she doesn't know either. She's really a mess.
Hanni on the other hand is the most positive about all of this out of NewJeans. Although also passive, Hanni is trying to be positive. "They're thinking about how NewJeans will be more successful, right?" (that's what I felt she is saying) But honestly, she cannot help but to try to be patient. She tries, but with the time she might become more pessimistic..
Danielle is THE WHOLE OPPOSITE. I sense now that she's more chaotic than the other members, and not only that. Her optimism fell down waaaay quickier than she has, i don't know, expected? In seconds she became way sadder, way dull.. She's broken down into pieces. Like the smallest I've ever seen, you know? She's really.. broken. Out of everyone in NewJeans, she accepts this very extreme, very deep and is afraid for the worst to happen.
Haerin would prefer to rest and not think about it. With very passive thoughts, she might want to take a hiatus because of her mentality, she tries to make the next move that will be more beneficial for herself but she seems to be.. stuck. She doesn't knwo what to think.
Hyein is with neutral thoughts too, but a bit more optimistic. She hopes everything will be okay despite that she's injured.
I'LL-IT on the other hand aren't fully aware of what's going on.. or aren't aware at all.
Yunah excepted something to happen but not in this way. She tries to go through her journey as an I'LL-IT member despite everything.
Minju's aware of everything THE MOST. "Oh, Min Heejin's just jelaous!" "Oh, NewJeans are just the demo version of us!" might be things that she's thinking. Minji seems to go into .. a chaotic phase where she doesn't feel herself at all and tries to blame everything on other people who aren't at fault at all that aren't in BELIFT instead of her company or the corporation as a whole. Deep inside, she is mad and tries to not act bratty in front of everyone because she is aware she'll make everything worse. I see Minju is pissed.
Moka is thinking in the most balanced way out of everyone. It's similar to Yunah in the way she expected something to happen, but it's like "I expected to happen exactly like that, but I thought it will be even worse", like she saw the future or knows the body language TOO WELL despite of her age. Similar to Soobin, I believe so.
Wonhee is a knife with 2 blades - positively, negatively, how to see it through? It's just really hard. With these cards that all 3 of them (3 of wands, knight of swords + 7 of cups in the bottom) can be accepted either positively or negatively and not in between, i'll rely on my intuition this time. She is also aware of everything but tries to be chill. She WANTS TO LEAVE THE GROUP. If Haerin tries to make a step that will be the most beneficial step for herself, Wonhee wants to leave the industry altogether. This, for Wonhee at least, CHANGES EVERYTHING. She wasn't aware at all about the copying and everything else. She felt she was scammed, tricked, whatever. She wants to be free. Now, she understands Youngseo the most and why she left. She just wished to do the same as her when they hadn't debuted.
Iroha is trying to move on and is pretty much neutral. She sees it as some business type of issue between a few older people who control everything in the company and is just unaware. She tries to see it on a surface level because she doesn't understand what's going on.
About the conflict, I did separate post because this post will become too long. It's somewhere in the emoji hashtag (the one with the honey and the bee).

How to Turn Sun Wukong into a Woman
No, this post has nothing to do with the 72 changes. It is a byproduct of my recent "How to Kill Sun Wukong" article. It details a ritual (from another famous vernacular novel) that secretly steals an immortal's spirit, tethers it to a straw effigy, and then kills the target by shooting it with arrows. In that article, I introduced a story idea where Zhu Bajie and/or Sha Wujing could race to stop the ritual. But what if they failed and the Monkey King was killed?
The rite only terminates the immortal's physical body. It doesn't destroy the spirit. And since Wukong hasn't yet achieved Buddha-Nature, meaning he is still subject to the wheel of rebirth, his spirit would report to the underworld for processing. He could definitely be transferred to a new reincarnation; however, considering the journey would still be ongoing and the Tang Monk is always in trouble, heaven might rush to find our hero a new body. This actually happens to a minor character in the 1592 JTTW.
The ledgers of hell show that the deceased wife of a Tang official was fated to live a long life (i.e. she wasn't supposed to be dead). Therefore, the underworld bureaucracy takes the timely passing of the Tang Emperor's sister as an opportunity to force the soul of the official's wife into the princess' body. The best part is that she still retains her memories from her past life (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 1, pp. 268-269)!
Heaven might find the only suitable body that can contain Monkey's soul is a recently deceased demoness (fox, yaksha, tree, etc.). [1] I imagine this would result in Sun Wukong being weaker, not because she's now a woman, but because few beings can match Monkey's original physical and magical might. This would naturally lead to her coming to terms with a loss of power. She could still be a very strong fighter, just not as strong as her past life. This might cause her to use more cunning when dealing with especially powerful evils encountered along the journey.
What do you think?

Note:
1) I even considered Princess Iron Fan as the receptacle. However, she is said to having a positive fate in the novel: "In the end she, too, attained the right fruit [i.e. Buddhist merit] and a lasting reputation in the sutras” (Wu & Yu, 2012, vol. 3, p. 163). I think choosing her would muddy our Lady's accomplishments.

Jimmy Page and the Rolling Stones: 60 years of musical flirtations
Certainly, not all blues enthusiasts of the early 1960’s can claim to have become some of the most influential musical artists of all time. But that’s one thing that Jimmy Page and the members of the Rolling Stones have in common.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first encounter between Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Jimmy Page occured in 1962, just a few months before the formation of the Stones. The three English boys travelled all the way from the South to attend UK’s first American Folk Blues Festival in the city of Manchester. They met at a blues collector’s house, and together they listened to Howlin’ Wolf’s masterpiece album commonly known as ‘Rocking Chair’—then newly released. For a blues fanatic back then, meeting someone with the same interest was something almost extraordinary. Most people weren’t interested in what was still a rather obscure music genre and preferred rocking and rolling to the songs on the radio. For this reason, if you liked the blues and met someone alike, you were going to remember them.
By the end of the same year, Jimmy was spotted during a gig at the Marquee Club in London and asked to play regularly on record sessions. This was the start of a short but prolific career as a session musician for the young man, who would soon encounter Mick and Keith again, this time with the rest of the Rolling Stones. He played on a number of demos for the band, three of which were officially released on Stones records:
These sessions were a great opportunity for Page to develop an understanding of how records were produced: he spent hours in the control room, and soon he was employed as house producer and arranger at Andrew Oldham’s Immediate Records. In 1968, the record company released Blues Anytime Vol 1-2-3, a series of records containing works by various British blues artists. Jimmy featured in two of these, producing a few songs on which Mick Jagger (harmonica), Bill Wyman (bass), Ian Stewart (piano) and Eric Clapton (guitar) were the musicians.
Around this time, Jimmy also gave a helping hand to Brian Jones on the soundtrack for the cult classic movie A Degree of Murder (recorded late 1966-early 1967), also using his now notorious trick of the violin bow. He recalls:
“Brian knew what he was doing. It was quite beautiful. Some of it was made up at the time; some of it was stuff I was augmenting with him. I was definitely playing with the violin bow. Brian had this guitar that had a volume pedal – he could get gunshots with it. There was a Mellotron there. He was moving forward with ideas.”
—Jimmy Page, from issue #1171 of Rolling Stone
Legend has it that the Stones had previously asked Page to join the band in order to throw Jones out, but he declined.
The group was again looking for a guitarist in late 1974, to fill the spot left by Mick Taylor’s sudden goodbye. Jimmy had recently jammed in the studio with them on a fun session which birthed the track Scarlet, but it was highly unlikely that he would leave the then biggest band in the world—even for the Rolling Stones. The track remained in the vaults for 46 years, and was finally released in 2020 as part of the expanded edition of Goats Heads Soup.
“I had completely forgotten about it. Someone told me it was Ginger Baker on drums. And I rang Jimmy Page up — I didn’t remember anything — and Jimmy Page remembered everything! This person played on it, it wasn’t Ginger Baker … he seemed so certain about it.”
— Mick Jagger on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, July 22, 2020
Jimmy Page and the Rolling Stones would cross paths again in September 1983 when both Jimmy and Bill Wyman played on the ARMS Charity Concert, later embarking on an American tour with the rest of the musicians involved.
As a result of this, several of said musicians were invited to take part of Wyman’s latest project, Willie and the Poor Boys. Inspired by the music of the early 1950’s, they congregated at Jimmy Page’s home studio, the Sol, and recorded numerous tracks, twelve of which were officially released on a 1985 self-titled album. Jimmy can be heard on two of them:
The Eighties were a time of turmoil for the Rolling Stones as its two principal songwriters, Richards and Jagger, had been feuding over the band’s direction for most of the decade. Nonetheless, right after the Willie and the Poor Boys sessions commenced the recording process for Dirty Work. Jimmy took part of another jam session with the band, immortalised on the hit single One Hit (To The Body).
In 1992, the 7th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame took place, and among the chosen legends to be honoured that year were the members of the Yardbirds. Keith Richards also attended the ceremony, being assigned the role to induct Leo Fender, one of his idols and legendary creator of the Fender Stratocaster. Later on, an All-Star Band was formed for a one-off performance and Keith and Jimmy found themselves merrily jamming together once again on classics such as ‘Green Onions’, ‘Soul Man’, ‘Big River’, ‘Dust My Broom’, ‘Shout’, ‘All Along the Watch Tower’, ‘Purple Haze’ and ‘Something Is Wrong With My Baby’.
After sharing much of their success over the past six decades, Jimmy Page and the members of the Stones remain close friends, now having earned a well deserved title as rock and roll legends.

Todays rip: 11/02/2024
Unhealed
Season 4 Episode 1 Featured on: FINAL BOUT ~ SiIvaGunner: King for Another Day Tournament Original Soundtrack VOL. 3
Ripped by Netyasha Roozi
youtube
With my coverage of Season 4 Episode 1 in particular, I do sometimes worry if I feature a bit too much stuff from the King for Another Day Tournament. It is, after all, just one event, one that despite its massive scope still at BEST made up just one-fifth of the Season's ten-month runtime. Yet its scope isn't just a factor that exists in some bubble: The King for Another Day Tournament is as big as it is in part because its hype practically enveloped the entire Season, remaining the largest event the channel has yet produced, and the size was far more than just for show. When looking at just about every upload made for the event, each demo rip campaigning for each of these thirty-two beloved contestants, you get the feeling that the event instilled energy into every single ripper, within and outside of the team, to put their absolute BEST foot forward.
Unhealed is but one of many more examples I could, and have, featured on here that shows just how passion went into the tournament from every front. Sunday Morning was the arrangement of a lifetime for wolfman1405 and cazsu to show their jazzy skills, Lifelike Waterway allowed l4ureleye to truly stretch her wings as a master of the ambient soundscape, A New Threat shows a rarely-seen side to ripper Sarvéproductions' output as an incredible original composition that manages to still convey so much about the character - and the list simply goes on and on. With all these rippers on standby firing at all cylinders for the channel's biggest-ever event, there were few rippers I was more excited to see operating at full charge than Netyasha Roozi - and regular listeners and/or SiIvaGunner viewers ought to already know why.
As an annual Halloween tradition at this point, Netyasha Roozi has provided the channel with some of its spookiest arrangements of its entire lifetime, the history of which I covered back in Play In MissingNo's Station. How befitting, then, that the infamous Pokémon glitch said rip takes its name and influences from, would then become a contestant for the King for Another Day Tournament - and one of its heaviest hitters, to boot. And as Netyasha Roozi's contribution to the character's set list for the tournament, Unhealed certainly doesn't disappoint.
As per MissingNo.'s source list, the arrangement is based on the legendary creepypasta Ben Drowned and the associated Song of Unhealing - itself simply a recording of the Song of Healing from the game the creepypasta is based on, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, played in reverse. Wheras the original Song of Healing feels like a careful balance between hopefulness, sorrow, acceptance, and grief, the reversed form of the song - even taken outside of its creepypasta context - sounds infinitely more ominous, hopeless, as if taking the form of despair personified. The effect of playing notes in reverse almost gives them the sense of being pulled away from your reach at the last second, as if its constantly moving toward something that it's never able to reach. As if the mere prospect of happiness, of peace of mind, is a fleeting thought, gone as soon as its envisioned.
Unhealed, when contrasted to many of its hype-beyond-belief arrangements - including other MissingNo. arrangements like mines.ogg (unused) - could almost be seen as a bit strange in comparison. Yet in refusing to abandon the original atmosphere of Song of Unhealing, it becomes an absolutely stand-out arrangement. Unhealed captures and refines each of those feelings, of despair and hopelessness, as described above, yet now executes them with the intent of a full arrangement rather than as a side effect of reversing a song meant only to be played in one way. The arrangement adds so much texture to the track: a sort of muffled noise pertaining throughout it, small glitches prodding at the seams as if trying to break free from a neverending pit of sorrow, and once again retaining that sense that the song's notes are just...flying away from your fingertips, just as you're about to save whoever you see on the other side of your screen.
MissingNo.'s character was already given a ton of fans through its portrayal on the King for Another Day MOJO website, characterized as far more than a mere monster born from the minds of children of the world wide web. Yet even without those stories, I feel as if an arrangement like Unhealed is able to say so much about the character its attached to, able to convey so many feelings and thoughts, all on its lonesome. Althewhile, the track still has about as much bombastic flair than a schoolyard whisper. In an event with over 700 videos uploaded, each one of such incredible quality, and many continuing to champion the sheer spectacle and excitement that the Tournament was all about, I hope Netyasha Roozi still knows how much I adore her small-yet-perfect contribution to it all.

Exactly 50 years ago - the most important album of my life was released: "Court and Spark" by Joni Mitchell.
I wondered for a long time which of Joni's albums from her so-called the golden era (i.e. a series of albums from 1971 to 1976) is my favorite. Currently, "Blue" or "Hejira" are more popular, but today I can definitely say that I choose "Court and Spark".
Everything is perfect here: melodies, lyrics, arrangements, performance, production… And of course Joni's vocal. Someone might say that these exact elements are present in all Joni's albums, or at least in all those released in the 1970s. It's true. However, the thing about "Court and Spark" is that it is also very optimistic. Yes, you can hear melancholy in many places, but the overall tone of the album is positive.
(by the way, my second favorite Mitchell's album is "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter", also more optimistic than most of her discography)
I could go on, but words cannot express how connected I am with "Court and Spark". In 2022, I probably played it 2,137 times (greetings to Polish people). And it always moves me. A fantastic mosaic of sounds. I highly recommend listening to the "Joni Mitchell Archives vol. 3" boxing, the demos and other versions of songs from "Court and Spark" are simply amazing!
