"Humanizing Deities"

I hear this a lot in the online paganism and witchcraft circles. And honestly, this phrase is so over used and misunderstood. If there is a video about a follower/worshipper/which ever else title talking about how their deity showed just about any emotion to them or if they are worried about something they did wrong, I see a lot of comments saying "stop humanizing deities" or "they can never be mad at you, stop projecting human emotions". Deities are not emotionless, completely perfect, always just, and always kind beings (most of them at least). Obviously a lot experience and show them differently than people, but to just throw on the blanket statement that they have no emotions/show no emotions and are the glittering image of perfection is very much wrong.

Sometimes I also question peoples knowledge on certain deities when they say this. For instance, there was a video talking about how a practitioner made Athena disappointed. Much of the comments were saying that the practitioner was "pushing human emotions onto her and humanizing her". If you actually read her lore however, you will know that this is anything but impossible. Not saying humanization cannot happen and does not happen, it certainly does in some cases. Deities can be angry, disappointed, and upset. Deities are not beings that can be put in one box on things like this. But saying that deities showing any emotion towards their followers, especially if the emotion is negative, is automatically humanization is very incorrect.

My household is a mix of Unitarianism & Nondenominational Christianity with a heavy regard with the separation of church and state. Holidays are somewhat religious. My parents always told me to think for myself and not to follow blindly for that was not true faith. I do keep that to my heart even today and reconciled somewhat with Christianity to enjoy some of the positives of the religion never truly apart of it. A lot of ceremonial work revolves around Judaic studies in which I studied on a academic level before utilizing it. I do have a patron saint (Archangel Uriel), an working relationship with Jesus due to association, and my grandfather was Jewish. I understand the effect of the abrahamic religion on the world, but I have a line drawn in the sand for YHWH for me & my patrons personal preference. I lean into Arabic customs due to my patrons gonsis with their origins from the middle east which puts me in proximity myself towards Islam. Nevertheless, I use Mesopotamian & Roman customs in my practice with an heavy abrahamic influence. Besides, my patrons have been demonized and uplifted in this same sphere of religions for two millennia any modern day practitioner would be well versed somehow in this topic. I research every ancient and modern culture and apply it if it is open practice and respectful. Also, I usually do some chakra work as well and somewhat a fan of ancient India.

I would describe myself as an "spiritual scientist" in which leans in the principals of chaos magick. There is days I feel more religious than others because it is still apart of me. Blind faith is not a option with my gods. They want a well-rounded person who accepts themselves fully. At this point you couldn't tell the difference between a devout christian or an atheist with me and that's the point because my practice is uniquely mine. Manete felices cum multa dilectione! ♡

Hello, my name is OW and I have been a demonolater for 4 years and am on the path to preistess-hood to help spread the teachings of Prince Stolas. I also work with Marquis Andras but have worked with him for only two years. Besides demonolatry, I am also an omnist and animist. The work with Daemonic energy.

Working with demons involves making real contact with them, this implies being Satanists or demonolaters.

If, on the other hand, an eclectic witch or sorceress decides of her own free will to request the help of a demon to perform a ritual, the situation changes drastically: working with demons who do not belong to the primary pantheon, involves more effort than with those who have been in it all along, one has to study more and have even more caution because you are going to disturb an entity that in itself contains a very strong polarity of energies.

You have to be careful what demon to ask for help because if one as a consequence can lead you to make you feel bad, another if felt disrespected for a small mistake puts you through the pains of hell in a way that is indescribable. Although satanists and demonolaters must also have a certain rigor, respect and caution, they are more facilitated because I repeat they are in the cult of Satan and the cult of demons, so obligatorily they have to study demons to the best of their ability and respect them.

However, this does not imply not having contacts with divine intelligences outside the pantheon to which they belong. In fact, a great many demonolaters are omnists, that is, they believe that all deities are real. But, specifically, I believe that every demon has existed from the dawn of time, known then under another name (and even energy) in every culture because of the evolution social and anthropological evolution that man has faced up to today: Inanna, Istar, Astarte, Aphrodite ...are nothing more than different energies to define the totality of the great Mother Astaroth.

This does not lead to belittling any deity or cult that is different. Let it be clear.

So you can have contact with other deities? Absolutely yes, one can worship them and even work with them.

I am the first one who has been working closely contact with Hekate for a very longtime, but also with The Great Queen Morrigan. I am connected to the Celtic pantheon but I don't embrace it all since I am a Demonolatress, so I rely solely and exclusively on my pantheon of reference.

S. Connolly, who explains better than me, the existence of a personal pantheon. In addition to the demonic pantheon in toto, there is a subjective pantheon of the practitioner in which are included all the Demons and Deities with whom he has had close contact with, with whom he works or whom he simply wants to worship.

For example, I introduced Morrigna and Hekate into a different space than the space in which there are Leviathan, Azazel and my guardian Malphas, along with Lilith, Astaroth and Lucifer, because I have had contact with them and I work/I worked, while Sargatanas, Andras, Eurynomous I put them in my altar just because i want to worship them.

It should be added that one can have contact with other deities, a demonolater must respect the tradition of the deity. This is one of the reasons why a demonolater is also a scholar, delves into each deity as he has to respect the preferences. For us this is important, respect for the divine is sacrosanct.

Is it wrong? Absolutely not,

but one must understand that having contact with other deities outside of six demons does not lead the practitioner to be less demonolater; conversely, neither does it lead the practitioner to having to call himself a witch/witch.
