The Fates really had a knack for throwing your life out of order -if there was ever an order to begin with- so of course, the spell meant to have you retrieve a birthday gift for your younger half sister ends up catapulting you to Scotland, England in 1944.

So here you are now, in some place called Hogwarts, 66 years in the past, on a whole different continent, all alone and away from anything that could help you. Not only do you have to manoeuvre the intricacy of keeping your identity as time travelling demigod a secret, you also have to deal with a strange and dangerous boy named Tom Riddle keeping his eye on you. But hey, you’ve fought two wars, this much should be easy, right?

Ashwini represents the head of Aries, and it is symbolized by the horse head. This indicates sharp thinking, mental speed and the impulse to take initiative. Active thoughts eventually lead to self-expression (an obvious 1H theme) and a possible confidence in speech, especially in the way that this nakshatra is related to celestial healers and the quickness to respond to the needs of others, this highlighting the potential skill to channel the right words at any given instant. The fast communication is also because this nakshatra falls in the merchant caste. So the potential excellency in persuasion, being impactful & emotionally insightful in speech, is indicative of them being good negotiators, traders and salespeople.

The “slick talker” thing is just the manifestation of their ability to respond fast, to shift (by personality or language), and be able to read the emotions of others to know what to channel (this is mostly connected to their healing abilities which may be used for bad through deception). Mars drives strategy, so this deceptiveness ties to their ability to scheme as well.

I know Ketu nakshatras are generally connected to scammers but there's a specific way that Ashwini does it. I've noticed how good they are at being chameleon, and liesmiths.

Low-Key Lyesmith is literally played by Ashwini ASC native Jonathan Tucker in American Gods.

Another form of the demigod in the series is Mr. World, played by Ashwini Sun native Crispin Glover.

He is also seen shapeshifting. As expected, he is a mischievous double agent.

While likely Ashwini Moon Tom Hiddleston plays the demigod in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Low-Key Lyesmith is his other alias in the series American Gods, where he is still the Norse trickster god. “Lyesmith”, liesmith, puts emphasis on the ability to create illusions through speech and communication — this being a merchant nakshatra co-ruled by the smokey, shadow planet.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his uses of magical illusions were taught by his mother, Frigga, who is played by Magha Moon Rene Russo.

I already touched on Ketu's associations to magic, witches, shape-shifting, and illusions, especially through the character Morgan Le Fay. Although it's not the only planet that is illusory, of course.

I'd relate Ashwini to the Silvertongue archetype. If you've watched There Will Be Blood, you realize just how good Daniel Plainview is at talking. He's your classic scammy salesman. Very, very good at selling his business, and very manipulative using his son as the face of it, for advertisement, to convince everyone else that he's a family man, in order to bring in more clients. Spoiler alert: he is not a family guy. The character was intentionally portrayed as a conman.

He's played by Ashwini Moon Daniel Day Lewis.

Disney's Hades, voiced by Ashwini Sun James Woods, was portrayed to come off as a charismatic slimy car salesman. He talks so fast you don't know what he's saying at times but he's really charismatic and funny which makes the person he's manipulating question themselves.

With the second clip to this attached video, I intentionally added it to emphasize Ashwini's internal speedy nature. The active mind processes also relate to Hades' fast-talking, illusory nature. Idris Elba guessing Tom Hiddleston instead of Benedict Cumberbatch, and Andy Serkis implying they're pretty much the same was a cherry on top. And it's so interesting how Benedict Cumberbatch was up to play Hades, along with Tom Hiddleston, for a live-action movie.

Although I doubt the project is happening anymore.

In the above YouTube video, you'll see how Plainview has a particular way of articulating himself... when he's actually lying. He speaks this way in front of a target audience, but his actions reflect something else.

This reminds me of Patrick Bateman, from American Psycho, giving a social justice warrior speech when he is actually internally empty and detached from humanity as a whole. All a front.

He does this quite a lot in the movie. Very important to pay attention to his articulation and presentation. Ashwinis can be remarkable shape-shifters.

Loki, also known as the Prince of Lies, has also been voiced by Ashwini Moon Troy Baker in video games. Obviously portrayed to be very charismatic, known for having a silver tongue, he's expected to be several steps ahead of everyone. That's the Aries scheming right there rooted in strategy (Mars) and psychological warfare (Ketu, as its the psyche).

Morgan Pendragon, from Camelot (2011), also leans into this archetype, but with just a touch of seduction. She used her power through speech and manipulation to influence others. There are impactful scenes where she is speaking to large crowds of people where she incites a lot of emotions from them. Her motivation, besides the throne, was to be a strong political figure.

Besides magic — psychological warfare, language, and emotional insight were tools for her to control outcomes. Even in defeat, she's quickly thinking of the next strategy and scheme. Being Ashwini, she's a fantastic negotiator. She loves collecting psychological insight as well. In this post, I talked about Ketuvians playing master illusionists.

The release of the Fiend Folio Appendix (1992) felt like a victory for reasons I can’t quite explain. I think, maybe, because on some level we realized that the original Fiend Folio was seen as an unpopular 1E D&D book because it didn’t get an orange spine reprint (or perhaps it was somehow forbidden, like the earliest editions of Deities & Demigods, with the Cthulhu and Elric material?). Perhaps all that gory Russ Nicholson art made it totemic of the aspects of 1E that were now, thanks to the angry moms, deemed unseemly? I don’t remember and even if I did, I am not sure it would make real sense.

Whatever the reason, the Fiend Folio was back. This appendix collected, give or take, all the monsters from the original folio that had not already been Compendiumified (grell, for instance, where in the Greyhawk appendix). There are some that, flipping through, seem new, mostly filler like the darter, a type of lizard, or the scathe, a kind of evil icy gliding humanoid amphibian? I dunno man, Fiend Folio was always for weirdos, I’m OK with it, plus the illustration is by Steve Bisette. The rest of the art is by the Tom Baxa and Mark Nelson tag team, and just about all of it is tightly done. Nelson seem particularly on his game. That hellcat? The retriever? A+.

The Easley cover is very nice, probably the brightest and most colorful of the lot (which is maybe ironic, considering how much heavy black ink is inside the original Folio, but the original Emmanuel cover is pretty colorful now that I’m thinking about it). I believe the pale fellow is a fog giant, in the middle is the kamadan and the right is a xill. Mindbogglingly: there is no page or attributes for the kamadan inside! How do you mess that up?!

And then the second disaster struck.

Donald Trump said no.

Despite a formal request from Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders for a major disaster declaration, the Trump administration denied Arkansas the federal aid it desperately needed. The official FEMA justification? The damage wasn’t severe enough to overwhelm state and local resources.

Let that sink in: Entire neighborhoods leveled, lives lost, and the federal government—led by the man Arkansas helped elect twice—walked away.

No Explanation. No Empathy. No Aid.

Governor Sanders, who once called Trump “the most effective president of our lifetime,” now finds herself in a new position: publicly begging for help. In her own words:

“The sheer magnitude of this event resulted in overwhelming amounts of debris, widespread destruction to homes and businesses, the tragic loss of three lives, and injuries to many others.”

Even her appeal letter couldn't sway Trump’s FEMA. And while the denial may look like bureaucratic indifference, we’ve seen this movie before. In Trump’s world, disaster relief is not about need. It’s about loyalty. Political calculation. Retribution.

When California burned, Trump mocked the state’s forest management and threatened to withhold aid. When Hurricane Maria flattened Puerto Rico, he delayed help, slandered local officials, and threw paper towels while people died. When COVID ravaged blue states, he floated holding back ventilators and aid based on which governors showed him enough "appreciation."

This is not fiscal policy. It’s punishment.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Meet the

Trump Doctrine:

Governor Sanders served as Trump’s press secretary, spinning his every lie, excusing his every cruelty. She carried water for the man who now leaves her state to rot. Senators Tom Cotton and John Boozman, alongside Arkansas’s congressional delegation, have all urged the administration to reconsider. And yet, silence. No revised offer. No second look. No acknowledgment from the president they helped return to power.

What kind of leader punishes his own voters when they’re buried under rubble?

Disaster Relief Is Not a Loyalty Test:

Arkansas wasn’t asking for special treatment. The March 2025 Tornado Outbreak qualifies by every standard FEMA has used in past disasters. Similar levels of damage in other states—often blue ones—have triggered federal assistance almost immediately.

The difference now is not the storm. It’s the man in power.

And under Trump’s second term, the message is clear: if your state doesn’t flatter him, it suffers. If your local officials don’t kiss the ring, your town doesn’t get help. If your governor isn’t useful anymore, your people become collateral damage.

The Message to America Is Chilling:

This is bigger than Arkansas. This is about whether any of us—anywhere—can count on our government to show up when it matters. Because if the answer depends on who’s in office and whether you praised them enough on Fox News, we’re not a republic anymore.

We’re hostages.

LOKI - TV SERIES / SEASON 2 | DELETED SCENE | BLU RAY DISK (2024)

Over two seasons on the Marvel Studios series “Loki,” Tom Hiddleston‘s god of mischief learns to forsake his past as Marvel villain and become the hero we all knew he could be. But his past transgressions are never far from his memory.

In a deleted scene from Season 2 of the show — part of an impending 4K UHD Blu-ray release — Loki recalls just how many people “said I was a problem” while talking with his friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) over slices of key lime pie.

Loki names Thor’s compatriots on Asgard — Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogan (Tadanobu Asano) and Fandral (Josh Dallas and Zachary Levi) — as well as Laufey (Colm Feore), king of the Frost Giants and Loki’s biological father, and Bor (Tony Curran), father of Odin and Loki’s adoptive grandfather. And he names Heimdall twice because, Loki says, “Heimdall was a big one!”

From Earth, Loki lists Thor’s girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), her scientific colleague Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) and her intern Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings). He also names S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) — as well as Donald Blake, “who Thor pretends to be when he goes to Earth.”

Among these names, Loki also brings up two characters from Marvel comics that audiences have not yet encountered in the MCU. The first is Amora, also known as Enchantress, a magical Asgardian and one of Thor’s enemies. The second is another villain, Absorbing Man, who began life as a boxer named Carl Creel — until Loki poisons him with a elixir that gives him the ability to transform his body into the quality of anything he touches.

At the very end, Loki brings up Hercules, the Greek demigod who has appeared in Marvel comics since 1965. The character made his MCU debut in the post-credits scene in 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” as played by “Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein. In that scene, Hercules’ father, Zeus (Russell Crowe), commands his son to bring down Thor (after Thor impaled Zeus with his own lightning bolt). Marvel Studios hasn’t announced when — or if — Hercules could return to the MCU, but according to Loki, this wasn’t the first time Hercules had tussled with Odin’s family.

“Hercules — another big guy,” Loki tells Mobius. “I was a big problem for him.”

Carlisle is not for Alphard

Alphard is an extremely cynical person who admires Tom Riddle for his strength and infallibility. Tom is the most extraordinary person in the room at any given time, and always true to himself. As far as Alphard is concerned Tom is a demigod among men, the sort of natural force who doesn't live by the same rules the rest of us do and wanting him to change is the last thing on Alphard's mind.

Would he admit this to Tom's face, never, Tom has enough of an ego. Alphard will call him a lunatic and ridiculous, and mean every syllable. Did he fall in love with a violent lunatic with impure blood who was beating up not just Alphard, but his closest relatives and all his friends in school, also yes.

It's the whole package of Tom that makes him appeal to Alphard, from the physical beauty to the uncompromising personality, to the way he can't ever be fully predicted, and the tragically romantic backstory. Being in love with him is just a point of fact for Alphard at this point.

Even becoming Lord Voldemort is something Tom never claims is anything but what it is, and while Alphard is horrified and heartbroken Tom remains the person he always was. Readers of The Man Who Would Be King will remember Alphard lasted one week before being married to Tom again.

Carlisle, by contrast, while unbelievably beautiful and just as extraordinary, is a man who has made self-delusion a cornerstone of his life. He loves his family and wants them to care about human life as much as he does, so he'll give them little nudges like going to their victims' funerals or have family votes where thankfully the majority voted against killing an innocent girl, and not think about what it says about Edward that he killed people for pleasure for four years because- well, he came back.

And he walks around talking about how great, how humane, how wonderful his family and their way of life is. While living among humans, thereby risking the deaths of innocents for no reason other than "it's our lifestyle!" (and the even worse, underlying reason of "if they don't live with humans they might forget humans aren't food...")

Loss of control isn't even a hypothetical, this happens to the Cullens semi-frequently.

Alphard would think he's a fool and a killer by proxy, and despise and pity him. To him, Carlisle is easily worse than Voldemort.

Alphard is not for Carlisle

The trouble with Alphard is that he is what Caius would be if Caius was worse. He's mean, he's judgmental, and he's cynical, all qualities Caius shares only Alphard is somehow worse. He's just so mean.

More troubling yet, he is very principled and harsh on himself but lives cease to matter to him where his loved ones are concerned. Had Aro said "Here is my Horcrux, it's a fifteen-year-old Aro who must be fed a soul to gain a body" Carlisle would have pressured him to either repair his soul, and left when Aro didn't do so. Alphard, by contrast, "Ope, guess we're finding him a soul then."

Alphard is a very ruthless person, he may be principled but should his line of reasoning lead him to murder being the solution to a problem a loved one is having then murder it is.

Alphard also reacts to Tom becoming Voldemort much the same way he would infidelity, as it's not really the suffering Tom inflicted that bothers him but the betrayal of his own character as Alphard knew it (and he'd have had a much harder time getting past actual infidelity. That would have been a crisis). His faith is restored because he sees enough of the goodness he fell in love with. His niece Bellatrix is much the same, of sure she's done bad things, Alphard is intellectually aware of this fact. It's getting hard to deny that she probably has tortured and killed people, and delights in it. Well, have you considered the fact that she's precious and perfect?

Andromeda's marriage to Ted is on par with Tom and Bellatrix's life choices in that Alphard's not thrilled with it, but he can look past it because he loves her that much.

To Carlisle this man is genuinely insane and terrifying. Carlisle can move past his friends killing to live because it's what they've always known and he sees the good in them in spite of that. Alphard would frighten him, there is plenty good in him but Carlisle would correctly put together that the man is one line of reasoning away from killing anybody at all.

Carlisle stays as far out of his way as he can, and warns others to keep their distance from this one.

Can these two even be in a room together?

I think if they meet in the library and only talk about books, they'll have a grand time. Just don't let them talk about anything personal, at all.

Nico di Angelo Headcanons (Vixnarts Universe)

He still loves Mytho Magic but he tore up his old deck because they were being run down and torn from playing with other kids at the Casino.

He does have depression but it isn’t as bad when he realized that Bianca was alive and faked her death (Bianca is alive in my au, hush!!)

He is more stuck in his head and has anxiety, Jason reminds him to get out of his head when he has an anxiety attack.

He hates singing, he despises his singing voice because he is not comfortable raising his voice. Nico would rather listen than sing.

He prefers having friends than dating, Nico isn’t against it but he doesn’t see himself dating. Mainly because he doesn’t see himself dating and prefers to be single. Which makes him aroace. There’s too much going on for him.

He is more close to his half brother Knut (my Hades kid oc) than Bianca. Nico felt a connection towards Knut because he felt the same sadness as Nico.

Nico has a therapist that is one of Apollo’s older children. No it’s not Will. His therapist looks like Apollo and they mainly talk about his anxiety and depression.

Nico is not into Will. He prefers Will as a friend or an acquaintance. Will does have a crush on him and Nico is very much aware of it but not interested.

Nico has a small crush on Clovis, mainly because they like to take naps together. Since Clovis is always so tired, Nico and Clovis would chill out in Dreamland.

Nico is very good friends with the Stolls and Sigrid. Sigrid and Percy like to annoy Nico playfully. Though Sigrid is very much aware and knows Nico’s limits. Not Percy.

Nico likes to befriend demigods that are bullied for who they are and what god parent they have. Clovis used to get bullied by most of the campers at Halfblood, until Nico would step in and cuss them out. Which that made Clovis feel happy and comfortable around Nico.

He is a Spice Girls, Nirvana enjoyer and huge Batman fan. Nico is OBSESSED with Batman and the Batfam.

He would stand up for his friends and have their backs when another demigod picks on them.

He is adopted by a wonderful family that love and support him. Nico barely gets bullied and feared at school. In fact, he’s more of a funny elderly man that swears and make people laugh.

He is an artist, a very skilled artist that does both traditional and digital art.

Nico hates the MCU and DCEU. Mainly he hates Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and he doesn’t like Spider-Man in general.

He is a shadow demon which explains his claws, he isn’t Cardi B (idiots on Pinterest and their ugly comments that don’t make a butt load of sense).

Nico loves his art classes and his best friends (Sigrid and Connor), he maybe a stubborn smol lad. But he loves his friends and family like there’s no tomorrow.

That’s all my headcanons for now, please be respectful and you may disagree. But please again don’t attack me and harass me for not having my Nico be into Will. That’s getting quite annoying. I know “most” of you guys don’t do that, but there are some that aren’t very respectful, you know.

Phobias and Other Fears

Honestly, not a lot. He gets animal fear reactions in the moment, but this man is very psychologically prepared for death. He even gets a complicated rush when people he likes are in danger.

The Urge feels correct to him, but illithid/vampire powers are an unnerving affront to his faculties. And the closer he gets to reclaiming his old life, the more he falls into old anxieties around responsibility and controlling his surroundings. (Forgetting who he is was really, really good for him, alas.) And of course there’s disappointing Father. Which will NOT happen.

Pet Peeves

Barricades, locked doors, secrets in general. His tail touching the ground. Little sisters. Loses patience for children easily, and sometimes cats-- basically anything he can talk to that can’t be made useful. And though he’s loathe to say it outright: closed relationships.

Weirdly good for his middling CON. I imagine he makes up for that by not liking to complain, so like an 8? Once the blood gets flowing he’ll take a few blows to the head and still laugh, but for the most part he just tries not to get hit.

Fight or fawn, baby! "Are you absolutely sure we can’t be friends? All right, death it is then."

Oh, surely. But I subscribe to the “extra-good demigod healing” kind of Bhaalspawn headcanon, so it’s trivial.

How would a stranger likely describe them?

These days, it's as a contradiction! Scary, sweet, nosy. "I thought he was here to shake me down, but we ended up having a long conversation about my garden plot and my gout." Or just "the reddest guy in the room".

Are they a night owl or morning bird?

This man has never been on the sleep schedule binary in his life. I heard once that in medieval times, people would sleep for a few hours, wake up in the middle of the night and work/fuck/whatever, then sleep some more. Ty is like that. Perpetually murder-napping, woken up frequently by his slasher POV dreams that tell him it's time to work.

What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?

He's over the "drinking bile" thing, doesn't remember why that was fun. But one thing he is looking forward to post-game is eating a lot more people. That dwarf meat was quite restorative! Outside of that, his special treats are prawns (yay coastal hometown) and melon.

Do they have any hobbies?

He's the type to structure his life around his love interest, does that count? He's also a voracious nonfiction reader, magic and science and wars and stuff. And dead people's diaries.

Oh, his heart would explode. Might start crying. Would hug and/or shake everyone's hand. Might even forget to ask why they think today’s his birthday.

Little bit? He appreciates a good regal look, but that kind of dress-up was mostly reserved for Temple events. When your bedroom exits to an altar, you may as well give the people a decorated, dangerous thing.

Pretty neat! I imagine elegant, confident strokes and evenly-sized letters. But gods only know what “neat” means within the disaster that is written Common.

Excitement and confusion. Often at the same time!

I'm the "2 things about Lily" anon and but she Identifies with Dumbledore

I soooo agree! There is a switch where it begins even. I used to be able to pinpoint the book, the moment where Dumbledore becomes this force of nature that can never go wrong.

I haven't read the books for a while but it happens at the end of the 5th book, I think, the book that is the harshest on Dumbledore (and of course it is! Harry is 15, it's time to become critical of your mentors!! she was always brilliant at child psychology, my mom and all the other moms of my friends loved her for this), and then Sirius dies, and then there is this scene where Harry is screaming at Dumbledore.

And he deals with Harry (of course he does, he is the principle, he loves his job and adores his students, he must deal with several scenes like that per year). And she feels empathy for him. She thinks about her stupid children just not getting her. And it's over.

The next book Harry's grief for Sirius is lesser than it was for Cedric. And Dumbledore graduates to a demigod and dies, achieving sainthood, even though it is obvious that Cedric's death was supposed to be a lesson FOR HIM ALSO. After that the status-quo must be protected at all cost, and her original plan for a man who went trough a lot and tried very hard (because he did! he devoted his life to protecting children like Ariana! he devoted his life to develop tolerance and even love for muggles who did terrible things to her! but Tom was a muggleborn and so so cruel right of the bat, who did he see in him?) and was never perfect, and arguably lost his humanity to the fight, because he accepted to sacrifice a child while avoiding going face-to-face to Voldemort? Never mentioned. The characters are never allowed to react to that. Lupin specifically goes through who knows what so that he doesn't react to that. Only Snape is allowed a word, one word and no contradictions to the great plan, but only because otherwise Snape is unforgivable.

I agree with all of this, and think it's beautifully put. Book 6 & 7 (and the fantastic beasts films...) would have been a lot better if they leaned into Dumbledore's darkness, darkness which is absolutely there.

JKR has talked about how she originally envisioned Albus Dumbledore and Rubeus Hagrid (white and red) as foils but oh boy was that distinction lost:

I named them for the alchemical colours to convey their opposing but complementary natures: red meaning passion (or emotion); white for asceticism; Hagrid being the earthy, warm, physical man, lord of the forest; Dumbledore the spiritual theoretician, brilliant, idealized and somewhat detached.

But this absolutely DOES track with how they're characterized in Philsopher's Stone. Hagrid is kind, comforting, emotionally intuitive, protective, but not much of a planner... while Dumbledore is all mind - weird, brilliant, mad, wise... but not especially cued into the emotional dimension.

about frazel & the trouble with raising kids

so frank didn't grow up in a (white) traditional nuclear family environment but it's very normal for chinese families (and many other ethnic groups really) to maintain close proximity to each other and just have multiple generations living under the same roof together so his living with grandma zhang is very normal (also it's incredibly rare for us to know anything about a demigod's grandparent let alone for them to have screentime, the only other real instance is piper's grandpa tom. grandma zhang is such an interesting presence in the franchise). at the same time though emily zhang is presumably not at home super often despite her protectiveness over frank because she's actively serving in the canadian army, so frank's home life is limited to a rather cold relationship with his emotionally distant and kind-of-sort-of verbally abusive grandmother

furthermore frank in son is openly disinterested in his own heritage and doesn't see the value in preserving tradition at all (i.e. his disdain/disgust for his grandma's weird antiques) which is a pretty typical consequence of diaspora + children of color growing up in majority white areas and feeling othered from their peers, thereby repudiating anything that makes them feel "more ethnic" like their family's language or their food and other elements of their culture. but he still appears to come around eventually after grandma's "death" (she may have fled from the fire but she stated explicitly that she didn't have much time left in son, so she's almost definitely dead). he's learning chinese and more appreciative of what he comes from. frank lost every remnant of his heritage in the zhang manor fire and now it's up to him to both preserve the zhang bloodline and create a new legacy in companion with his romanness, his chinese heritage, and his distant greek shapeshifter blood as a legacy of poseidon (frank is inconsistently referred to as a legacy of poseidon/neptune in the books lol but I stick with the greek version because I think it makes the most sense)

meanwhile hazel comes from. well. something very different. she's from 1930s great depression era jim crow new orleans and she grew up poor in a single parent household with an abusive mother. hazel was born with a curse because of marie's "greed" (how dare an impoverished black woman want the literal god of riches to provide for her but yk whatever. it's very greek tragedy-esque) and hazel's ideas about the dangers of wanting more and being selfish aren't really resolved well in the books. hazel being born is the event that kills her mother, she's a kind of prophecy that seals marie's doomed fate. marie knows this and she explicitly blames hazel for everything in her life that went wrong

and hazel is an extremely unselfish person as a result. she sees her mother's bitterness over her fate and doesn't want that for herself. hazel sacrifices over and over and over because she can't ever want things the way her mother did. the only precious thing hazel really allows herself to want and go after is arion but she still freed him out of necessity to escape from the amazons, and she still never has or owns arion for herself because he's a free-roaming horse (and a literal god). many people say that bringing a child into the world is a selfish act within itself and I think that's especially true for demigods in context everything that demigod children go through. when you add on the layer of hazel's birth being the consequence of marie's greed/selfishness I think it's not hard to see why having kids would be especially challenging for someone like her

anyways what I'm saying is that I think frank would want a bigger family and a strong nest, like he would love to have maybe around 4+ kids and begin to reforge everything that he lost (furthermore I mean. of the canon pairings frank and hazel's kids would definitely be the most powerful new gen demigods because both of their parents are so powerful). his dream retirement situation is probably to live in a big house with hazel and their kids and grandkids in new rome and he'd love it if one of his kids also grew up to be a praetor. the romans care so much about legacy-building and cultural preservation and generational prestige but I think hazel wants the opposite of that. I think childbirth is uniquely frightening for her because as said previously hazel's birth is the thing that kills her mother, and who's to say that the selfishness of having such powerful kids won't result in their being cursed, too? and that's not even considering frank's curse--he was nerfed with firewood because he was deemed "too powerful". what about the kids he has with a child of one of the big three gods? AND there's the magic factor to take into account because marie had magic. she isn't a regular mortal. she had louisiana voodoo magic powers in her which was how she summoned pluto in the first place. hazel's potential with magic comes from marie. so frazel's kids would be legacies of mars and pluto and poseidon and be shapeshifters and likely have magic powers of their own. no way their kids aren't gonna be hunted down by monsters like crazy and get wrapped up in like 50 world-ending prophecies

and that's not even getting into the unignorable nuances of being a poc x poc interracial couple and the inevitable complications of raising children that are half asian and half black, not just in the real world but in the context of a roman camp that fought for the confederates lol. they would have to really talk to each other and have that uncomfortable conversation about frank being a father to black children and hazel being a mother to asian children and the ways they need to prepare themselves for that. if you've ever been in an interracial relationship and you want kids then this is a subject that just has to come up or else you're not taking things seriously imo

in contrast with frank hoping for a big family I think that if hazel wants children at all (and I doubt that she really would) she only wants one max and after giving birth I think she would be fighting against the desire to just take her (their) kid and disappear off the face of the planet. like... yeah sure frank comes from an illustrious family but hazel has no glory in her bloodline beyond her own accomplishments. she's an undead girl who only gets to be alive at the end of hoo because her father is ignoring the rules of life and death. and there's a kind of self-centeredness to generational legacy-building that's just so far beyond hazel's personality and life experiences like I really do think she's a "this bloodline ends with me" kind of person and only her love for frank and belief that they really can build a good life together would give her enough confidence and hopefulness to have kids with him

and I haven't even talked about their class differences (the irony of frank growing up wealthy and dating the daughter of the god of riches who grew up poor lol) but where frank might be inclined to spoil his kids with everything they want/not really think about the exorbitance of giving his kid mega expensive gifts because he grew up rich, I think hazel's reservations about the dangers of greediness would be a recurring interference in their parenting methods. like…. this is all so interesting to me and I could go on and on. like don't get me started on frank having a boy and not a girl there's a lot to get into here. anyways hashtag frazel renaissance 2025
