I Have A Undertale/Deltarune theory

Thesis Statement: Deltarune and Undertale are stories who’s fundamental structure both within canon and outside of it are by design made to be interchangeable.

Hear me out on this.

I feel like the greatest clue into this is undertale and deltarune as anagrams. The thing about anagrams is that they’re meant to clue into entirely different meanings when you rearrange the structure of the letters.

EX. Undertale -> Deltarune

But if we examine both under the perspective of both being the same story being told entirely differently when rearranged. The same characters, plot, world building, and structure of the story can remain consistent but the context and meaning behind them all drastically changes.

Toriel in Undertale and Toriel in Deltarune are essentially the same character and contain the same characteristics, personalities, traits, and even the same musical motif. But both exist in entirely different continuities.

Toriel in undertale was the queen to the king of monsters, Asgore, and had a child named Asriel and adopts a human child who falls into the underground long after the great war which forced the monster race underground.

Toriel in Deltarune is the ex-wife of Asgore, they had one child named Asriel and is implied to have adopted the human Kris at a young age.

You see what I’m getting at? There exist beyond parallels between the games, less so as nods or references but entire chunks of structure and narrative construction that have been given new meaning in a context made from the anagram of the original story.

The situation between undertale and deltatrune in their relation to one and another is less which came first but that both in a way co-exist and show parallels.

Other examples I have found:

-Kris gathering and bringing the other dark worlds to the fountain found within the closet it parallels the humans forcing the monsters underground during the war, and although the entire story has not been concluded we can see that a entire civilization is forming the town where Ralsie was ‘waiting for heroes of light’

-The theme of choice existing beyond characters free will. That the player themselves guide the player character Frisk/ Kris despite them having a will, ideas, and personality which still shows through item descriptions and text options in conversation

-Characters retaining traits and interests and professions shown in Undertale eg. Asgore being a landscape artist, Undyne working in law enforcement, Toriel being a teacher, etc.

-Segregation between monsters and humans, with my idea for the explanation for the lack of other humans in Deltarune being that humans are low in number or were forced underground and society now has a small minority of humans which live among other monsters.

I have three verSions of touchtone telephone saved in my playlist. I love this fucking song. Reminds me of the time you recommended Dj. Subatomic Supernova. I was a part of the NSR fandom directly before my Deltatrune phase. Now I'm in TSPUD. I shift infrequently but I still do. Maybe it's better this way. I have the memory of a goldfish. Bout a month or so. So it's good I'm stubborn. I'm just glad that I'm having fun. Hard to do that nowadays. Also if I ever call you Soft I'm being in pathetic sopping kitten mode.
