Theeeeeeeeeere we go! I made a Noelle sprite for Dark World - obviously resembling designs from Chapter 2 promo material, but a bit different! I decided to return to early draft with her having cute round golden bell and ribbon, although a delta rune looked nice too.

Regardless of what her actual design will be in full Deltarune, this one is what we’re going to use for our thing.

Well well well... what do we have here? Why, it’s a Deltarune OC! Meet Jolly, the second Joker of the deck.

She is a character that’s meant to appear in a project I’ve been working with a few friends of mine. What is this project? I’m not telling! In the meantime, you can enjoy this sad sad lady.

My idea on what Noelle’s Dark World weapon could be! Based off ‘Angel’s Harp’ object I posted earlier, but simpler, since DR weapons are typically simple... If things keep going like this, I think party will need more efficient healing than Ralsei’s (lowkey) weak spells and mediocre items. In our fan-continuation, in fact, Noelle soon becomes lead healer instead, while Ralsei requalifies as party’s wizard!

Heya check THIS out! Decided to dump my spade suit (Deltarune) heacanons in one post. It took me a bit to finish, but I really wanted to! Spade Queen has alternative outfit that is more of a generic dress, but in this case, she has anti-spade-king situation (he got only belly area covered with black clothing, she has everything BUT belly area covered)...

As for mouths thing? Yeah, I tried to speculate on what other Spade species characters could be like... Will probably (read probably as definitely) use the ideas in our fan-sequel. And yep, I will do ones for other suits too! I bet Club darkners are discerned by their horns and Diamonds by how their hoods are! What could I do about Hearts, though?..

Tagging @val-of-the-north , since original Spadeling sprite was his and @axslingingaskansweringslasher , since original concept was hers. I just added weird cartoon logic, conceptualized how they fight, added level-up purple form and conceptualized everything about them... ...okay, maybe I did a bit MORE for spadelings than just a little...

Woa! Look, they got shaved and are all slick now! I did minor redesign of the royal Clubs, making them look more like sphynx cats rather than... just cats. Why? Well......

It occured to me that literally nothing suggests that Clover and her kind are fluffy - not Deltarune, nor Kanotynes’ original cards. Might have been artistic choice, but fluffyness starts to feel more like me just falling for common habit of perceiving everything I find adorable to be soft and fluffy. Welp, don’t cling to a mistake just because you spent a lot of time making it!

Besides our Club Queen basically speaks in mysteries and currently lives in desert, so this change is more fitting!

My attempt at idle sprite for Diamond Queen (sleeveless) ! She is a big gal, almost as tall as Spade King, actually.

You guessed it right - her watch is used as yoyo-esque weapon you keep seeing in the fighting games! Doubles as circular saw on the chain when blades extract from the sides, or as a whip to wrap around battle box and shake it up a bit. Can’t wait to try my hand at spriting attack animations!

Here is a drawing of Carol Holiday in her office! Well, at the moment this drawing is made we have not seen canonical Noelle’s mom, so feel free to take it as me practicing at designing cute Christmas themed office. Because I rarely draw rooms and offices.

Joy is a Lookalike-Darkner that takes form of a Lightner rather than strictly a form of a toy/object, after actual Deltarune Chara, similarly to how Ralsei takes appearance after Asriel. Here is a closer look at the design:

In our AU, Darkners do get in the Hometown, at some point! I like to think that after starting to eat Lightners’ food, they will eventually adopt Chara’s colors!

I don’t believe I’ve introduced these Deltarune OCs in my blog yet, so here they are! Take a willllllld guess what card suit they are serving...

I wanted to make a joke with casino chip enemies, which is to make their name longer the bigger number is! So, like, 50 is named Chippy, 100 is named Chippyngton, 500 is named Chippyngtondwyn and 1000 is named Chippyngtondwyntorn, haha; Subject to change since I am bad at suffixes, pardon me! You get the idea tho.

Piggybank darkner is the bodyguard and the (intimidating) tax collector, not very talkative. Their case speaks for them... A maneki-neko darkner is a spokesperson of the team, a great customer service and the one to oversee business of the casino Diamond Suit royalties own while they are absent. They are named Wabble and Pabble respectively!

Darkner species headcanons post (with pictures!)

Hello! Well, here I go and lay down my thoughts about Darkners here, because I really love them. This post is made at January 2021, so these might be deconfirmed by the full game, however I am using them for now and for our AU called Thus Spoke The Prophesy (TSTP)

I was quite conflicted about connection between Light World and Dark World, whether you could kill the darkner by destroying their object in the Light World, so I decided to go with as much liberty here as I could! Proto Fountain helps the darkness to have shape, whereas isolated, it is a substance that is ready to start properly existing but needs some sentence, some perception.

I like to imagine that Seam was ‘born’ with a sick/missing eye already, because the plushie was missing an eye at the moment of giving them shape. Don’t copy damaged objects, folks! However, what happens with the object AFTER Darkner exists concerns this Darkner very little, if at all...

I struggled on what to make out of Ralsei’s parents... I assume DW!Toriel doesn’t exist because it is not likely Asgore would ever let go of his ring, and objects that are actively wanted, used and loved elude darkness and can’t become a Darkner. Ralsei might just have one parent... 

I used to think that because there were many Rudinns, they were number cards, but ended up with a better solution. Since they resemble Kanotynes’ Jack of Diamond card - they all are Jacks! I like to think that Rudinns we met are all children of the current royal Diamonds couple! Applies to Hathys as well.

So to conclude, even if there is just one deck of playing cards in the entire Hometown - that is still enough to have dinasties and more than one royal family of the same suit - same for chess pieces! Because number cards have no real appearance - their best shot is to resemble face cards... unless this chunk of darkness becomes something else instead. Number Hearts might as well turn into inanimate metal objects and have shape just for the heck of it.

Heeeeere it is! Life in the Dark World goes on by it’s own strange logic, Darkners are not quite like us and I chose to not apply same biology rules as we have to them. Basically, if a kid asked you where do babies come from - what fairytale or evasive responce would you come up with? That is probably what ACTUALLY happens in the Dark World!

The most you can get is nonsexually happening pregnancy since it is an E-rated concept anyways... Think of how many kids know what is pregnancy if they’re expecting a younger sibling in the family. Or how there are pregnant Barbie dolls but no Ken dolls with dicks. With Spade suit, it is not important which parent gives a “birth”, since both will have belly mouth pocket dimension.

This bit is concidered my “official” headcanon, more ‘biological’ concepts and such go into AUs, speculations and what-if scenarios because I try to keep open to alternative ideas anyways.

Darkners don’t make a conscious choice what to be born as, they are born on what piece of darkness that turned into them aligned more with. And so, they can’t just decide to use another template entirely. Their liberty ends at altering their outfits as long as they are still recognizeable, because more often than not, Darkner’s clothes are also part of their body! Like Rouxls’ strange merged boots-pants and gloves-sleeves, like Diamond Queen’s hood-hair, like how many plushies have their clothes sew-in and irremoveable.

Like shown in this example, status change can cause them to change physically too. Something similar happens with K. Round, although it is mostly because you can actually power-boost a checker piece in the game of checkers.

I like to imagine that in Deltarune verse, playing cards also used to be drawn differently long time ago... So yeah, watch me draw young Spade King more greyish and froggish soon! Within change of appearance of the object of same concept in the Light World, a Darkner can look a bit more like it too - so Spade Queen can’t just start looking like Heart Queen card as she lives longer, but she can start looking like more modern Spade Queen card. However, it doesn’t work with individual objects like plushies, dolls, pieces of concrete puzzle, individual art and craft objects... Only with “concept” things.

Spade King’s life purpose was connected to Lightners that came before Kris and Susie... well, that gotta sting! Darkners that refuse to complete their purpose just to remain immortal are controlled by the closest current darkner to a Grim Reaper - such as tarot Death, Ace of Spades, etc... Similar to how Light Worlds cryptids such as Riverperson or Sans come from kind that controls boss monsters who refuse to ever have children for immortality and puts particularly disturbed Red SOULs and Ghosts to peace. Dark World aspires for balance too, save for people infected with Chaos.

GUESS WHO ISN’T FUCKING DONE YET, here are some card kings! In fact, this Club King is not my own edit, but it belongs to my good friend Val... who is deadset on avoiding social media interactions and only talks to friends... I just drew this absolute unit. I know that in Kanotynes’ card, Club King has 5 or 6 legs, but they wanted to have Clubs have 4 legs. And customer is always right. Except instead of customer, it’s our wholeass creative director. It does look fine for me, tho!

Heart suit people gotta be least complicated and unique ones, as there is only so much you can do with ‘a person who loves everyone and wants to see everyone happy! :3′. Heart King, likewise, shows many nonverbal acts of caring and good attitude... And like his wife, secretly plans their ‘ideal future’ without them knowing. To think of it, they are extremely similar, almost same-person-different-gender case. The only real difference is that he is quite weak for people who like him, whereas Heart Queen is more confident and takes people being driven towards her as natural.

Diamond King isn’t a very ambitious or competent ruler, he is just a very big Rudinn that was put in the power position and his plans end at obtaining more treasure to hoard and do nothing much with. I see him as a very devoted clean freak who can’t rest in the room that has an inch of dust or slightly disarranged objects in it. Whereas he holds himself as friendly, polite and even goofy person, he needs to be conditioned to really care about something (that isn’t his own belongings) or someone else. Some abstract other world can burn for all he cares, but if this specific person he loves is in danger or this specific place he likes to visit can close - then he will budge and get everyone he can influence into fixing the situation. If you want him to do something - make it be his personal self-interest.

Club King is the case where one head of the club persuaded others into sibmission, in this case, head going by ‘King of Kings’. Despite this, all five of he aren’t in plain enmity with each other and settle most arguements like mature, educated people. ‘Intelligent’ is the most curious and educated out of five and he invented glasses in the Dark World. ‘Sceptic’ does the criticism and judgement, and most strict (if not outright cruel) actions coming from Club King are his doing. ‘Concern’ does quite the opposite, worrying about the results of their actions and comfort of others, he will be the first to ask for second chance for a guilty subject. ‘Zen’ always has eyes closed and acts very quiet, one might think that he has no opinions and just enjoys existing and being extra-brain to store knowledge other heads couldn’t fit... However, if Club King is to ever argue with himself too much or completely lose ability to function, Zen will open his eyes and take entire control temporary, knocking other four out of consciousness and free will. Chances are, they never remember that it happened...

Looks like Spade King was surprisingly the most competent and useful ruler all along? That’s the point we were making, yeah, because he got to have enough power to take the other three down... and enough personal spite to put them in animal cage of all things possible.
