Douglas engineers envisioned this Mach 3 SST as delta-winged design with canard surfaces and fold-down wing-tips, a 130-passenger titanium civilian version of North American's B-70 Valkyrie bomber, in July 1962. High Voltage, 1975

A little background is in order first. In the early 1960s, Scotland had the worst winter in its recorded history. 8 feet of snow. A TV advertisement was offering travel assistance for people seeking a new life in Australia.

The Youngs emigrated to Australia in 1963. Angus recalls their government assistance house had a dirt floor with a tin roof. When it rained, there would be several inches of standing water on the floor, with worms swimming around. But hey, at least it wasn’t 8 feet of snow.

The eldest son, George was the first to pursue a career in music. His band, along with friend Harry Vanda had some hit songs but -frankly- the reason people remember the Easy Beats and Flash and the Pan is because George’s little brothers started a band and George and Harry were the producers.

The band was named by one of their sisters. She saw the AC/DC logo written on a sowing machine, and it stuck.

The original lead singer, Dave Evans, was not the right fit. He was more glam rock than the Youngs wanted.

A friend of George and Harry’s, Ronald “Bon” Scott, was occasionally driving the band to gigs and doing odd jobs. He had sung before, he had played drums and other instruments. They let Bon sing for one show, and the Youngs were sold.

This album had a number of different people playing drums and bass. Malcolm and George played some of the bass parts.

The band is and always was based on what Malcolm and Angus wrote. The rhythm sections changed a lot in these early bands, but the real magic happened with what Bon brought to the table.

Malcolm and Angus are amongst the best riff writers in rock history. Bon Scott, though, was a natural lyricist that knew how to hear a riff and write lyrics that bounced along in just the right way. The saying is that AC/DC hired a singer, and wound up with a lyricist.

Bon’s family all called him “Ronny”. He was Scottish born as well. He was also a bit older than the Youngs, so he was kind of the older brother in the band. Bon had demons of his own. He had been in some trouble with the law as a teenager, but no one really seems to give specifics on what he did. He was a daily drinker from his early teens as well.

The lead off single for this album was initially supposed to be “Love Song (Oh Jene)”. But the radio DJ heard the B-Side, a cover of the delta blues standard “Baby Please Don’t Go”, and AC/DC had their first big hit.

Bonny’s screaming, wailing, and pleading version is a definitive take on the song, and widely considered to be the best version in Rock.

So, the standouts are the clear choice, “Baby Please Don’t Go”, and I really like “You Ain’t Got a Hold on Me”.

This album has never been rereleased. The songs showed up on several other box sets and compilations, but this Australia and New Zealand-Only first edition is best left where it is. The follow up to this album is the real jumping off point for AC/DC.

even with the $8 charge to get on the subway from jfk and the long-ass ride into manhattan is less than one-way from union station

The end of an icon I: The Lockerbie bombing of one of its Boeing 747s had already put a massive financial and reputational burden on Pan American Airways - or PanAm for short. In the wake of the first Gulf War of 1990/91, its financial situation worsened even more. The well-known airline therefore had to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code on January 8, 1991, allowing it to continue operations while attempting to recover. In the ensueing process, it decided to sell-off the more attractive parts of the business, namely the transatlantic routes including 45 aircraft, the World Hub termainal at New York JFK airport, the East Coast shuttle and its slots at Frankfurt, Germany.

Competitor Delta Air Lines stepped up to buy the transatlantic routes including the fairly new mid-range A310 jets serving there, as well as the Boston - New York - Washington DC shuttle operations. While the Shuttle operations were already taken over on September 1, 1991, Delta announced to take responsability for the transatlantic business and aircraft on November 1, 1991.

A considerably smaller and restructured Pan Am was intended to survive, ment to operate into the Carribean out of a hub in Miami from November 1, 1991 onwards. That business however did not meet expectations by far and only lasted five weeks (!), with the shrunk airline ceasing all remaining operations on December 4, 1991 already.

In October 1991, N822PA was still operating to Europe on behalf of PanAm, but things would change in just three weeks time. On the outside, everything still looked "business as usual", but for sure, the crews aboard - mostly loyal long term employees - felt quite some unease, counting the remaining days in a farewell mood as the sale to Delta would also cut a number of jobs.

It's the annual NV Cat Show and Cecil has entered Khoshekh. Because of this, it is being held at the radio station since Khoshekh can't go anywhere.

The cat show involves the judges checking each cats tail for posture and form, checking it's teeth and then holding each paw to stretch out the cat into an X to measure the cat's latitudinal, longitudinal, and diagonal lengths.

Everything is going fine until they try to examine Khoshekh who greatly dislikes being handled and attacks the judges, knocking them out with the sedative oils he secretes from his tentacles. He then emits a high pitched sound only other cats can hear which the other cats return also becoming upset.

The judges wake up with the minds of felines and therefore start to act like cats and nobody is judged as the winner. All of the cats and the human-cats leave the station and roam feral and free in the streets - except Khoshekh. Cecil pets him with protective gloves on and gives him a catnip plushy.

Weather: “Fuzzy Disco” by Talkie

Khoshekh has a 'smooshy face' and is long-haired except around his caudal spine and pincers he can sting with where he is short-haired. He has multiple tails at least one of which is black and at least one of which has nacreous scales on it. He has white paws. He has 'the floofiest' tentacles which secrete a sedative oil (which turns your mind into that of a cat when it knocks you out apparently). He has five rows of teeth. He has multiple eyes.

Amber Akinyi and her husband Wilson Levy have a cat called Berthold. He is fist-sized, short-haired, orange and white, has eight legs, multiple shiny black eyes and can make a web.

Susan Willman has a cat which is MAYBE called Dumpster and is scraggy tabby with dirty teeth and a sunken posture.

Men from the National Transportation Safety Board arrive from Washington, DC. They are asking Sheriff Sam about the missing Delta flight 18713. They say it was flying from Detroit to Albany and was believed to have gone down in Lake Erie. However, before it disappeared for good it was detected in NV which should have been impossible. Sheriff Sam suggests that they talk to Doug Biondi who is currently imprisoned for being 'dangerous' in the NV Asylum. They suggest that the men pretend to be inmates to blend in and then they can ask Doug all they wish to before taking them away to the Asylum.

Friday night is the Tour of Lights in Old Town Night Vale. Starting at 7pm a tractor will drive people around to look at the festive holiday lights adorning various historic homes. Last year's favorite was the Victorian mansion owned by Harrison Kip which included a 40-foot tall Santa overseeing a vast army of toiling elves, while an old Victrola played "Ave Maria" over crackling speakers, and clowns leapt suddenly from the shrubs handing outs red and green balloons shaped like long-dead family members.

Saturday is the bi-monthly NV Pub Crawl in downtown NV. This involves, every 8 weeks or so, every bar being overun by 7 inch long bugs that look 'a bit' like earwigs but with human faces.

Cecil doesn't understand Uranus jokes because he pronounces it in a way where it doesn't sound your Your Anus.
