again- your icon belongs to somebody else i found on twitter with a completely different name and story from the one on your fundraiser link. your post history goes back a few days at most and on the most assorted random things. paypal fundraisers like that specifically are really hard to get drawbacks from. if you're not a scammer then shame on me, but people called you out on your last blog and you got deleted so

This is absolutely a scam!

I've seen the same message crop up from different URLs, and a quick search of the person's URL as well as the tag #donation scam to see if anyone is talking about them confirms that this person has remade their blog quite a few times already.

Folks on Tumblr are generally very charitable (a good thing usually) and asking for money has become common, so it's very easy to present a story of someone in distress and make it look legit. The unfortunate reality is that most people who don't just make donation posts but also further go into random people's inboxes are likely scammers. Or even if by some slim chance they're not, they're not effective by being too invasive and overstepping normal donation etiquette, so they need to be told no and not have their actions encouraged.

If you have any doubts, look carefully at their blog, and also search their URL or scam tags to see if anyone else is having the same problem with them. Some scammers, like this one, may fill their blog with a bunch of stuff---reblogs, likes, etc.---to make it look legit at first glance, but their archive will reflect that they are a very new blog and likely made the account solely for the scam. (For this blog, they liked/reblogged a bunch of stuff and made a donation post a couple of days ago on the 18th but have no previous blog history beyond that.)

Here are some (likely not a complete list) of the other URLs this particular scammer recently went under that I pulled from other people's complaint posts:

Don't click any links on these scam blogs, instead just report them by pressing: User Icon/Meatball Menu -> Report -> Something Else -> Illegal uses or Content -> Phishing

Stay vigilant and save any money you want to donate to causes you know will help people, such as donation posts from your friends or mutuals, Gaza eSIMs, or other verified relief for Palestine!

Another red flag for scam accounts CAN be names that seem like arbitrary combinations of words, especially if some are misspelled. For example, there's a known scammer re-using the same cut and paste here on tumblr whose latest name is "massivebananasong".

Just a few of their other names: "beautifulanchorpeace, unabashedobjectkitty, valiantcandysweets, transparentobservationpeach, strangeangelwinner, lovelypurplenacho, delicatesublimelizarddy, delicatesublimelizzardy, delicatesublimelizlzardyy, enchantingqueencreator, pleasantcollectionlove"

To me these have a pattern like they used a 3-word username generator, with little logic to the combination, and retry some names with added letters. They remind me of porn bot names, and like porn bots may be using AI generated text or images, if they're not just stealing images and text from real people.

When I look at this scammer's blogs, they are also typically very empty except for the fundraising posts, or reblog a lot of very generic posts from popular tags without any personal additions. But usually I don't even need to do that, because searching their username brings up people flagging them as a repeat scammer. Searching the text of their fundraiser posts can also bring up OTHER users, either the scammer's previous abandoned blogs, or the original real person they swiped the post from.

Am I saying all weird names are definitely scammers or bots? Absolutely not, people have weird names on here all the time, and what feels "random" to me may just be a reference I don't get. Am I saying that a Palestinian would never have a weird username? No, plenty of Palestinians do, especially if they've been on here a while, just like any other weirdo on tumblr. But Palestinians who just joined recently to raise emergency funds often use their legal name, and may not post much because they are trying not to die. Don't assume they're fake just because their blog is simple and mostly empty.

IN CONCLUSION: Do a quick search on usernames before you donate, especially if the username feels random or off. Check for a gofundme link and run a search for that campaign here on tumblr, and on the Operation Olive Branch spreadsheet. Don't get distracted by "punishing" scammers - Remember that our goal is to raise up verified fundraisers and get Palestinians evacuated ASAP!

Scammers pretending to be Palestinian & in Gaza are now opening their posts by saying they are "real & verified" in an effort to try get past the vetting situation that has been set up by actual Palestinian users & us Scam busters. So here's a reminder:

do not reblog any and every "donation" post you see by random users claiming to be Palestinian. Do not blindly trust every ask you get from random blogs claiming to be Palestinian begging you to give them money. Check their blog urls to see if they've been vetted by popular, well known Palestinian users like el-shab-hussein & Nabulsi

Don't inherently trust the blog just because they themselves claim they are "verified": the person confirming they are real can't be the blog in question "verifying" themselves lmfao.

Only reblog the donation posts of users that have been vetted by a well known Palestinian user on here, assume all others to be suspicious until they are vetted.
