On June 23, 1903, a white mob of more than 4,000 people in Wilmington, Delaware, burned a Black man named George White to death before he could stand trial. Mr. White was arrested and accused of killing a young white woman. He adamantly denied any involvement in the crime but was denied the opportunity to defend himself in court. During the era of racial terror, many Black people were lynched after being accused of murder. The mere suggestion of Black-on-white violence could provoke mob violence and lynching. Here, despite Mr. White’s insistence that he was innocent, Wilmington residents were determined to lynch him without delay. Within one week of Mr. White’s arrest, two lynch mobs attempted to abduct him from the workhouse where he was being held. White Wilmington residents talked openly about these lynching plans. In a sermon on June 21, local white pastor Robert Elwood urged white residents to exact swift public vengeance by lynching Mr. White. A lynch mob began forming the next day, and its members spent the next two days meticulously planning the public spectacle lynching that took place on June 23. Despite this public planning, in which mob members even shared their plans in advance with police officers, authorities charged with protecting Mr. White did not relocate him to a different jail or take any other measures to prevent the lynching. In the early morning hours of June 23, the lynch mob had grown to thousands and included people who had traveled from out of town to participate. The mob stormed the workhouse where Mr. White was being held and threatened to destroy every cell to get him unless authorities turned him over. Officers ultimately chose to protect the property of the jail rather than the life of a man they had a legal duty to protect; after leading the mob to his cell, the officers turned Mr. White over and “stood by to await the inevitable.” The mob removed Mr. White from the jail and led him, chained, through a crowd of thousands to the pyre built outside the jail, where he was bound with rope and forced into the open flames. As Mr. White burned to death, the crowd of white men, women, and children there to participate in the lynching threw rocks at him and cheered. After Mr. White was dead, members of the mob continued to shoot at his charred body, and lynching participants took pieces of his remains as “souvenirs”; a local white physician reportedly took Mr. White’s skull and right foot to display in the window of a local saloon. Though thousands of known residents were complicit in the lynching of George White, no one was ever held responsible. Mr. White is one of over 4,400 victims of racial terror lynching killed in the U.S., and more than 300 victims killed outside the states of the former Confederacy, between 1877 and 1950. In 2019, the Delaware Social Justice Remembrance Coalition gathered with hundreds of community members to unveil a historical marker memorializing Mr. White.

Chapter 43
Previous Chapter
Next Chapter
With a sigh tinged with sadness, you secured your bike in storage once more. However, as you settled into the back of the Impala, the familiar scent comforted you slightly.
Continuing your hunts alongside the boys seemed to be going smoothly. You were back to tackling the usual supernatural challenges, and your bond with Dean was as strong as ever.
However, everything changed when Sam decided to take on a solo hunt to give you and Dean some alone time but failed to check in.
Sitting together in the motel, both of you desperately searched for any sign of Sam's whereabouts. Then, unexpectedly, a text message arrived from Sam, providing an address and insisting that you both wear your fed suits.
"That's only 15 minutes away, Dean," you gasped.
Both of you arrived the White Chapel.
"How do we know this isn't a trap?" you whispered.
"We don't," Dean answered, drawing his gun as the lights flickered ominously.
Approaching the door, you watched Dean staring intently at it. When he glanced at you, he appeared surprised to find you looking at him.
"Aren't you going to open it?" he asked.
"Why do I have to be the one to open it?" you retorted.
"Because I'm the cover," he countered.
"I can be the cover," you hissed back.
Just as he was about to reply with something snarky, the door swung open, revealing Sam standing there looking confused.
"Sam, you're okay!" you exclaimed, rushing to hug the man before you. When Sam noticed your guns, he smiled. "You don't need that. Put it away and follow me," he instructed as he pulled you down the aisle.
"So, what are we hunting?" Dean asked, suspecting some kind of siren, "Is this a play?"
"Nothing like that. I'm in love, and I'm getting married," Sam proudly announced.
"Good one, Sam," you chuckled. "Wait, you're serious?" you added when Sam's expression didn't change.
As Dean was about to say something, a woman in white began walking down the aisle.
"Becky!" you and Dean exclaimed simultaneously as Sam unveiled his bride.
Trying to get Dean's attention, you nudged him repeatedly, whispering, "Bride, that's the bride." However, Dean stood frozen in shock.
After the initial surprise settled, Sam sat down, holding Becky's hand.
"Shouldn't she have asked for my permission?" Dean spat out. "I mean, how did this happen?"
As Sam began explaining how they met, you interrupted, "That's nice, but Sam, you're a hunter. How's this going to work? You're putting her in danger."
"But that's the best part. She understands more than anyone; she's read every book," Becky exclaimed excitedly.
"Okay, but how do you know she isn't... you know," Dean nodded at Becky, implying something.
"We've done all the tests—salt, holy water. I passed them all," she smiled.
As the pastor concluded, Becky grabbed the bill, declaring, "I've got it. You two can do your brother thing," then turning to you, she added, "And we'll do our sister thing."
Turning to Dean you mouthed "Help me," but all he could do was shrug, which earned him a glare from you.
"So, Becky," you started, but were taken aback when she suddenly wrapped her arm around you, pulling you in for a hug and snapping a selfie. "This is definitely going on Instagram," she happily stated.
"Instagram?" you queried, puzzled.
Before she could respond, Sam approached both of you.
"Ready, Becky?" he smiled, kissing her, prompting you to turn to Dean, who pretended to be nauseated.
"Where are you headed?" you hurriedly asked. "Don't you want to stick around?"
"No, we're off to Delaware, Becky's hometown. Hopefully, we'll see you up there," Sam said with a smile.
"We need to call Bobby," Dean stated firmly, leaving you nodding in agreement and disbelief.

IMAGENES Y DATOS INTERESANTES DEL DIA 29 DE MARZO DE 2024
Viernes Santo, Año Internacional de los Camélidos.
San Segundo, Santa Catalina y Santa Derfuta.

Absolutely amazing - convicting - inspiring - beautiful - I love it so very much!!!!!
From Lynette Hughes:
Intercessory prayer is done most often in private when no one is looking except God. Intercessory prayer is offered on behalf of others and intercessors rarely get any recognition in the church. The men that have been the most heroic for God have been the men with the greatest prayer life. America has produced some of the greatest prayer warriors in the world.
John Nelson Hyde was one of them. He was a missionary to Pakistan through whom millions of people accepted Jesus Christ. They say it was just awesome when this man went into prayer. There's a little book out on him called "Praying Hyde" that would be well worth your reading.
Edward Payson, {1783-1827} a Congregational pastor, better known as Praying Payson of Portland, Maine, was another great prayer warrior. He used to kneel at the side of his bed and pray, and pray, and pray. When they washed his body for burial, they found calloused pads on his knees like a camel.
Tradition says that Apostle James had camel's knees, but it's a living fact that Payson had them. When they were washing him, somebody said, "What abnormal knees. They're heavy with callouses." That's because he used to pray at the side of his bed with energy - and he wore two deep grooves about six or seven inches long into that hard floor where he prayed and made intercession. His prayers brought revival and during the 20 years of his ministry, his church witnessed more than 700 converts who came to saving faith in Jesus Christ.
Or what about Rees Howells? {1879-1950} one of the most effective intercessors of the 20th century and founder of the Bible College of Wales. Leonard Ravenhill met his widow Mrs. Rees Howells. They stood on the terrace of her home and she turned and said to him, "Do you see the room there?" He said, "Yes, I see that room." "That door?" "Yes." "Rees went through that door at six o'clock in the morning and he stayed there until six o'clock at night every day for 11 months except the one day that his mother died."
David Brainerd was an American missionary to Native Americans, especially the Delaware Indians of New Jersey,k who died at the age of 29. David had terminal tuberculosis and only weighed about 95 pounds. An entry from his diary reads: "I got up this morning and the Indians were still committing adultery and drinking and beating their tom-toms and shouting like hell itself. I prayed from a half hour after sunrise to a half hour before sunset. There was nowhere to pray in the Indian camp. I went into the woods and knelt in the snow. It was up to my chin."
No, he didn't have a heater with him or anything else. He was just there in the frigid snow, tuberculosis and all. He continued, "I wrestled in prayer until a half hour before sunset, and I could only touch the snow with the tips of my fingers. The heat of my body had melted the snow."
What amazing intercessory prayer! It was prayer which gave to his life and ministry their marvelous power. It was prayer that gave him an awareness and abhorrence of personal sin. It was prayer that centered his heart in God. It was prayer that made him long for more of Jesus. It was prayer that motivated his service.
David Brainerd, Praying Payson of Portland, John Hyde, and Rees Howells - when God puts the fire to their prayer life, I don't think there will be anything lost. It won't be flammable wood, hay or straw; it will be highly prized, gold, silver, and precious stones.
When Jesus examines our prayer life, will we receive a reward or will we experience loss? Well, God pity us. We can't even get people together long enough to pray for a half-hour; and we have velvet cushions on the chairs, central heating and air conditioning, and soft fluffy carpets on the floor. Brothers and Sisters, are you prepared to stand before the judgment seat of Christ? We may not have to fear the Lake of Fire, but will we need to fear the eyes of Christ that can be like fire piercing through all our hypocritical religiosity and pretense?

RICHARD ALLEN [PENNSYLVANIA] (1760-1831)
Richard Allen, History of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (1891), by Daniel Payne
Born into slavery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 14, 1760, Richard Allen went on to become an educator, writer, minister and founder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Benjamin Chew, a Quaker lawyer, owned the Allen family, which included Richard’s parents and three other children. Chew eventually sold the Allen family to Stokely Sturgis, a Delaware planter.
At age 17 Allen was converted to Methodism by an itinerant preacher. Allen’s master, Stokely Sturgis, was said to have been influenced by Allen to become a Methodist as well. After his conversion, Sturgis offered his slaves the opportunity to buy their way out of slavery. In 1783, by working at odd jobs for five years, Allen managed to purchase his freedom for $2,000. In the meantime, Allen began to preach in Methodist churches and meetings in the Baltimore area. Through his Methodist connections, Allen was invited to return to Philadelphia in 1786. Upon arriving in the city, he joined St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church, where he became active in teaching and preaching.
As the number of African Americans attending St. George’s increased, racial tensions mounted. Allen preached at 5:00 a.m. in special services on Sunday mornings to approximately 50 African American Methodists. When they attended the regular morning service, segregated seating was instituted. With this segregation, Allen became convinced that a separate church was necessary for the black congregants. In 1787, Allen and a number of other African American Methodists, walked out and formed a separate church that would become Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. It was the first Methodist church in the United States specifically for African Americans. Seven years later, on July 29, 1794, Bethel was dedicated by Bishop Francis Asbury. Richard Allen served Bethel Church as its pastor, and he was ordained a deacon by Asbury in 1799.
Other African American Methodist churches were formed in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. On April 9, 1816, after two decades of conflict with white Methodism, Allen and other African American Methodist preachers hosted a meeting in Philadelphia to bring these churches together, and to form a new denomination, the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME). Allen was elected bishop, and with his consecration became the first African American bishop in the United States. Allen cared passionately about education and opened a day school for African American children. He abhorred slavery, worked actively for abolition, and maintained his home as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
He was committed to self-sufficiency for African Americans in the United States, and eventually opposed all manner of colonization plans for African Americans . By the time Allen died at his home in Philadelphia on March 26, 1831, the AME church was well-established in the United States, and supported missions in several countries overseas. He is buried at the church that he founded. His grave remains on the lower level

Pastor Henry Highland Garnet (December 23, 1815 – February 13, 1882) was an abolitionist, minister, educator, and orator. He was educated at the African Free School and other institutions and became an advocate of militant abolitionism. He became a minister and based his drive for abolitionism on religion.
In 1824, the family, which included a total of 11 members, secured permission to attend a funeral, and from there, they all escaped in a covered wagon, first reaching Wilmington, Delaware.
He joined William H. Day and David Ruggles to establish the all-male Garrison Literary and Benevolent Association. It garnered mass support among whites, but the club had to move due to racist feelings. He started his studies at the Noyes Academy. Anti-abolitionists and segregationists protested and forced the academy to close after a mob of them attacked it.
He completed his education at the Oneida Institute. He was acclaimed for his wit, brilliance, and rhetorical skills.
He became pastor of the Liberty Street Presbyterian Church, a position he held for six years. Closely identifying with the church, he supported the temperance movement and became a strong advocate of political antislavery.
When the federal government approved creating African American units, he helped with recruiting United States Colored Troops. He preached to many of them while serving as pastor of the prominent Liberty (Fifteenth) Street Presbyterian Church (1864-66). During this time, he was the first African American minister to preach to the House of Representatives, addressing them on February 12, 1865, about the end of slavery.
His last wish was to go to Liberia to live, even for a few weeks, and to die there. He was appointed as the US Minister to Liberia in late 1881 and died in Africa two months later. He was given a state funeral by the Liberian government and was buried at Palm Grove Cemetery in Monrovia. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
