Bella Swan-ass behavior
i can see 1980/1981 (around the time daniel turns 27/28) as being the catalyst for his relationship with armand starting to splinter, his resentment over armand withholding the gift coming to a head, the occasional running off and wandering starting before it starts ramping up in frequency. because it's when it really hits him that's where armand is frozen — 27 forever — and daniel's past that now. he's always been younger than armand both physically and mentally but now daniel's the one who's older physically. suddenly it's way more real that one day he'll be turning grey and armand won't and it fucks with him badly
#devil’s minion#armand#daniel molloy#iwtv#(not to critique your meta OP!)#the comparison is just funny as fuck because I know Danie#would hate it#Armand watches Twilight and points it out to him#Look Daniel#this human girl is too struggling with growing physically older than her vampire lover just as you did when young!#But to answer the question of the chanteuse Lana del Rey#I do still love you when you’re not young#although you remain beautiful to me beloved 🥰#Daniel: 😑 Thanks Boss

iwtv is insanity inducing bc every time you google some reference in it you find out theyre doing some 4d chess with the symbolism… like okay playing roosevelt's speech about the us joining ww2 in the background as claudia tells louis shes gonna kill lestat is pretty straightforward, and of course the chess game theyre playing foreshadows how she beats him in the next episode but doesn't "finish the game" ie burn him. and bc claudia later compares lestat to the nazis/hitler, that obviously makes lestat germany and thus claudia is poland and louis is the us/roosevelt in the speech we hear: "I had hoped against hope that some miracle would prevent a devastating war in Europe and bring to an end the invasion of Poland by Germany" etc. BUT THEN you get nerdy and google some of the chess terms lestat uses like the dutch defense and stonewalling which is pretty interesting and then you vaguely remember one of the writers said the scene was based on some famous chess game, and you realize it must be glücksberg vs miguel najdorf which turns out to be literally called the POLISH IMMORTAL. najdorf was polish and glücksberg is some unknown but based on the name likely german. this was najdorf's first famous game, at the beginning of his career when he was only like 19 or something although we dont know the exact details of the game (and ofc you watch a few videos on the polish immortal and they all heavily criticize glücksberg's moves which makes lestat's arrogance even funnier) and ALSO, in 1939 (literally at the same time as the chess scene takes place) najdorf was participating in a chess tournament in buenos aires and since he was not only polish but also jewish, he stayed there rather than return home. his whole family was killed in the holocaust but he lived a long life in argentina. why is this relevant? because BUENOS AIRES which btw lestat also calls "la reina del plata" so you google that and find the 1930 song by carlos gardel and the lyrics are literally— anyway so buenos aires is where lestat planned for them to move to in ep7. perhaps if they had indeed gone to argentina instead of europe… well… perhaps… perhaps…
#spark in the dark#iwtv#interview with the vampire#i wonder if there will be more najdorf parallels in s2... theres a shot in the trailer where claudia is blindfolded#and najdorf set the world record for simultaneous blindfold chess in 1947 (!!!) which stood until 2011#although simultaneous blindfold chess also does kinda sound like what claudia was doing in ep7 already#theres also the najdorf variation of the sicilian defense which was named after him but he stopped using it bc#(if i understand correctly) some amateur who simply memorized the moves from chess theory books managed to beat him at it. HMM#to be clear i know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about chess im simply reading this shit off wikipedia and chess.com and some youtube videos#i could absolutely be getting this all wrong i have no idea what any of this shit actually means#s#claudia#vampterview#vampyyrit

I saw your post about the Sandman season 2 casting and I hope it's ok to ask what your dream cast for the Endless siblings would be? (also any other characters in the show! I know there will be a lot of new faces this season)
oh this is a delightful ask - i have a whole "alt face cast" tag that currently largely serves a human Matthew (Assad Zaman) but i love thinking through casting as someone who literally wrote a dissertation on diverse/colorblind/nontraditional casting in theater. that's definitely influencing a lot of my choices here - i tried to go with West End actors where possible, but i didn't limit myself to the UK. i also, uh. just picked all nonwhite actors because why not!
Destiny: to be clear i do like Adrian Lester as a choice! i feel like Chiwetel Ejiofor has similar gravitas as an actor, but i'd like to see Giles Terera in the role (he played Burr on Hamilton West End, and i think that shows an ability to balance Destiny's solemnness with dry, understated humor). Lemuel Knights would also be fun to watch take on the oldest Endless sibling.
Death: Kirby is obviously !!! we love Kirby. Vidya Makan feels like she has a similar older sister / responsible-but-kind vibe. Olivia Washington (currently starring in the West End's production of "Slave Play") would absolutely be able to portray Death on the other side of having hated her function (i'd LOVE to see a subtle take on Death as someone who has clawed back a sense of personal fulfillment in work that really takes a toll on her).
Dream: remember how Riz Ahmed voiced the Corinthian in the Audible Sandman? remember Riz Ahmed doing all those Shakespeare monologues? yeah.
Desire: Alex Newell! they won a Tony for best actor in a musical and they were one of the first nonbinary actors to be nominated for the award! (they're an excellent singer and also...i think it would be special to have a fat person play Desire.)
Despair: Kaguya. Minami Gessel. Patricia Fa'asua.
Destruction: okay so my ideal would be Toshiro Mifune. i understand that's impossible because Mifune is no longer alive. in which case...Rahul Kohli, or Beulah Koale (these are two entirely different approaches to Destruction - Kohli i could see as the sort of secretive, quiet man who's close to his sister Despair, while Koale i could see as the person who gets into painting after ditching his function and who likes talking to Barnabas).
Delirium: i had a silly but persistent hope that we'd get Bailey Bass as Del. (that scene in the 2022 iwtv where she's talking about her new life as a vampire gives the kind of unhinged/dangerous/sad vibes i get from Delirium as someone who used to be Delight and is now...fragmented.) alternative (but equally good) choices included Stephanie Hsu, Ruibo Qian, Priya Kansara, and (after seeing dead boy detectives) Yuyu Kitamura.
#inboxing#ask box#rriavian#thank you!#i really liked this ask - it was fun to narrow down choices and try to cast to character type#also i WILL say that ernest kingsley jr nailed the morpheus voice so hard i thought they'd dubbed him over with sturridge#during my first viewing of s1. like. INSANE that he has The Voice.#so we could also just give the role to him#sandman#alt face cast#or like#alt face casting#this got long so i'm not delving into the other possible cast choices#but also i DO love vanesu as rose. and vivienne as lucienne.#i'm so grateful we got the librarian as this prim elf-eared woman and not a tall gnome man

9 Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better
Thanks for the tag @rottenlaertes and @mademoiselle-red <3
3 Ships You Like:
Dracula/Jonathan (Dracula) - this ship caught me totally off guard and has lingered longer than many... darker than I typically swing but there's just something about it that really gets me <3
Ralph/Laurie (The Charioteer) - such a beautiful romance, an all time fave <3
Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens) - another fave; the banter! <3
First Ship Ever: There were others before it, but none so impactful as Louis/Lestat. Obsession level love for them on reading IWTV circa 1998, quickly got online to hit the fan groups (Yahoo), fic and RP sites, and even learned to code HTML so I could make a VampChron fansite. Those were the days!
Last Song You Heard:
Favorite Children's Book: Where the Wild Things Are
Currently Reading: The House in the Cerulean Sea
Currently Watching: Hazbin Hotel, recently finished Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities
Currently Consuming: Black coffee
Currently Craving: More time to write!
Not sure who else has done this one, but tagging @0nelittlebirdtoldme @nightmarist @grimgrinningghost456 @reignsupreme-inyourdreams @udaberriwrites and anyone else who wants to play <3

Okay, but when I think of that dumb-dumb take on the book version Louis Pointe du Lac and his ownership of Black slaves that was all like, 'You all are dumb and media illiterate because clearly the point is to challenge you to be sympathetic towards awful people!'
And it's like, it's clear who is media illiterate because such a take reveals the lack of ability to understand the concept of *framing.* Rice framed slavery in a very neutral light and made Louis an obvious racist in the way he described his slaves. At no point is this ever challenged. At no point does Louis suffer any social consequences for it even in the present day. I mean, again, it very much illustrates how white audiences are not horrified by the atrocities of slavery, which is probably *why* this person can so easily pat themselves on the back for being able to sympathize with Louis while insulting the intelligence of Black people who prefer Jacob Anderson's Louis.
Like, if you want a better example of a gothic story that challenges the audience to be sympathetic towards horrible people, you need only look at Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak. I remember when watching it for the first time, I was able to figure out really fast what the twist was going to be because I am pretty familiar with the kind of thing that goes down in gothic stories. And I think that made the movie an interesting experience for me because I wanted so badly to be wrong. I wanted Thomas to be good. I didn't *want* to have a crush on someone who I was pretty sure was having an incestual relationship with his sister and who was trapping wealthy women into marriage with the intention of murdering them. But the harsh reality of the story is that Thomas and his sister are bad. Thomas loves Edith, sure. Thomas tries to protect her from Lucille, yes. But he is still guilty. Lucille and Thomas are tragic characters. They were isolated from the world and abused by their mother. In different circumstances, they could have grown up to be good people...but they are also not blameless. The framing of their relationship is not good, nor is it neutral. Any reasonable person is as horrified as Edith is at the reveal. This man who she is DEEPLY in love with should not be kissing his SISTER that way. It's very clear the point isn't to walk away with the mindset of "incest isn't that bad actually" just because we're in love with Thomas and *want* him to be good.
The problem with the way Rice handles Louis is that no one, not even Daniel, is horrified that Louis not only owned slaves but did not even view them as *people*. And Daniel was the *perfect* opportunity for that. I mean, for fuck's sake! It was published in 1976. Daniel wasn't at all uncomfortable with this? I mean, perhaps he was enthralled at the idea that he's sitting across from a literal vampire, but that's the thing right there. That right there is the missed opportunity to do what Crimson Peak did so brilliantly. Maybe it's easy to be drawn to a handsome immortal, but his lack of remorse for owning slaves should, at the very least, make him UNCOMFORTABLE with his attraction towards him. And that's the problem with white Rice fans. She didn't challenge your own ideas. She didn't challenge your biases. If anything, she validated them, because CLEARLY none of you are uncomfortable with your attraction to white Louis despite his misdeeds. Despite his blatant racism. Despite his treating his Black slaves as disposable but is conflicted about taking WHITE human lives.
And this is not me saying that any of you have to like Jacob Anderson's version of the character. But the way some of you act so smug about your preference for the book version or even Brad Pitt's version and want to accuse Black people of having a lack of media literacy when you barely have a good hold on FRAMING is laughable. And the way a lot of you are acting like you have a better understanding of the gothic genre than anyone who prefers AMC IWTV is straight-up embarrassing. Read a different author besides Anne Rice, please.

Rules: tag 9 some people you want to know better and/or catch up with, then answer the questions below! — tagged by @monstermonstre, thank you!
Last Song: It Ain't Me Babe by Joan Baez, been on a real kick of listening to her Dylan covers lately, and I find I often like them better.
Three Ships: Lestat/Louis, because I just finished watching the IWTV tv show and I am still reeling a bit. Dipping my toes into Anders/Fenris/Hawke because I've been replaying DA2... and Krisnix has been on the brain, so them too.
Currently Reading: The Black Prince by Iris Murdoch, which I am enjoying a lot! I am especially enamoured with the real flop of a man main character, who has so far tried to leave London a grand total of eleven times and has only made it as far as Bristol before rushing back. I'm also still trying to finish English Society in the 18th Century.
Last Movie: Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, which felt like a long trek past what could've been but wasn't.
Craving: A nap! It's almost weekend and I have few plans, so I might just indulge.
Tagging: Whoever feels like it! Mutual and non-mutual alike, consider yourself optionally tagged :).

I think it's incredibly funny that I only watched 2 eps of iwtv, one of house of the dragon and one of Guillermo del toros cabinet of curiosities because at the end of the day all I want to see is the Winchesters and their gay angel friend getting new traumas. The brain rot has infected me like one of those zombie ants.
