That's really impressive!

The art looks (and probably was) inspired by the borders and marginalia of a medieval manuscript, and the completed work is entirely in keeping with how real historical scabbards might have been decorated. The elaborate embossed and tooled-leather treatments often given to modern replicas may (or may not) be a bit excessive.

Other sources suggest that historical scabbards did indeed have elaborate decoration as shown on funeral brasses. Whether this patterning was three-dimensional or painted is impossible to say, but it's a point well made.

Except for really wealthy owners, I think simpler decoration (painting, non-complex tooling) was more likely since scabbards were, by construction and by function, more perishable and subject to damage than the swords they contained.

They were usually two slats forming a wooden core, perhaps lined with raw fleece for grip and lanolin-greasy blade protection, then wrapped in leather or fabric and completed with ornamental metalwork. This would have been a locket for the top and / or a suspension band for the middle and / or a chape for the bottom. It varied by period, and often the only metal piece was the chape.

It's likely, IMO, that this metalwork, especially if fancy, was the most expensive part of any scabbard's decoration, and would be transferred from a damaged to a replacement one as required.

With the OP painted scabbard they're not necessary, since getting them would require careful measuring then shopping around to get the right size, installing them at this stage would obscure some of the completed painting, and unless very lucky, they would probably cost more than the sword did.

So, no.

Really ornate hilts and scabbards are often a result of being associated with a saint or by becoming royal regalia, and the three on the right are all in this category.

The first two are kept in Vienna, part of the Holy Roman Emperor's coronation accoutrements. One of them scores double points since it's also a saint sword, attributed to St Maurice - although since there's another St Maurice sword in Turin...

...and since Maurice himself was supposedly a Roman soldier, I take it all with a certain amount of seasoning, mostly salt.

The rightmost is called "Joyeuse", named for the sword of Charlemagne (which wouldn't have looked like this, either), and was part of French coronation ceremonial. Here it's being worn by Louis XIV in full "it's good to be king" cosplay.

And here it is again.

I have no idea why "Last Crusade" picked this one rather than something plainer, especially since I'm pretty sure the prop-shop sourced it from here.

There are, IMO, several better choices in the Del Tin catalogue, but I suspect the bling of this hilt rather than any subtle in-joke was what won the day.

Finally, the whole appearance of the OP sword is helped enormously by it being of realistic design and proportion, rather than an eccentric SLO (sword-like object) with a weird-shaped blade and improbably fantastickal hilt.

Does it have a name, and if not, might I suggest "Bluebird"?

The sword is a Del Tin DT5166 Spada da Lato, a "side-sword" or "riding-sword" meant for everyday carry, not just in battle.

This design is a Norman Type 43 hilt, with a crossguard, two rings on the outside and sloping bars on the inside.

It was a popular style...

...and Del Tin makes several...

...but I like mine best.

1) Why is this theater showing a film from 1996 1970? 😭 Edit: I was wrong about the year. I have no idea why, but I entirely disregarded the tollbooth part and thought the film was "The Phantom" and not "The Phantom Tollbooth"

2) They drive past this theater twice. The first time is when Rhett makes the handjob comment.

Then, he has a fourteen-second conversation with Maria, where you can clearly see buildings passing by.

Rhett never makes any move to turn onto a new street, so how the hell is it that they magically drive past the theater for a second time?

He said he would escape town when he was 17. 7 years later, it still hasn't happened, even though he insists he still wants to leave.

He tries to leave Wabang with Maria, and winds up hitting the only billboard for miles.

Now, here he is, driving through town on his way out, and he almost seems to wind up in a time loop, going down the same street over and over. Until guess what? He walks into the bar and gets tied back to Wabang again.

Or maybe his truck runs on fuel made from the hole and has unlocked the ability to time travel on its own. Who knows at this point. I hate this show.

Del Tin Early Rapier / Sidesword – 16th Century

This Early Rapier is a 16th Century Sidesword/Cut-and-Thrust sword that has become longer and more tapered, hinting at the form that would become the rapier, though it is early on this evolutionary divergence and its handling characteristics are solidly grounded in the Cut-and-Thrust style. Early Renaissance Cut-and-Thrust swords, such as this one based on an Italian 16th Century example, were descendents of the earlier, familiar medieval swords. These blades share the tapered profile and diamond cross section typical of late medieval types. Blades of this form are tapered sharply enough for good thrusting and armor penetration, but the blade retains the mass needed to give debilitating cuts.

The big changes are in the hilt – the quillons of cut and thrust swords often became more curved and complex and additional protective rings appear above the crossguard to protect the swordsmans index finger. The ricasso above the blade is unsharpened and protected with rings so that the fighter can loop a finger over the crossguard giving him more blade control. All of this extra hilt protection was introduced to follow the trend of warriors discarding bulky gauntlets in favor of an unencumbered and nimble hand.The clashing and sliding of swords is clearly dangerous to the hands and hilts evolved into ever more complex forms to give excellent protection.

Cut-and-Thrust swords are often incorrectly viewed as precursors to the rapier, when in fact they co-existed with the thinner, iconic rapier. The beefier cut-and-thrust design was favored by soldiers, whereas the rapier was largely a civilian weapon. Weapons used in battle needed the durability to defend and deflect against the weapons of numerous foes for longer periods of time, in contrast to the rapier that was most often used in one-on-one duels in a short burst of action. Cut-and-Thrust swords were often used in conjunction with a buckler or parrying dagger to complete the art of defence.

This cut-and-thrust sword is identified as a Spada da Lato or Side Sword – a variant intended for civilian defense. It is made by Del Tin of Italy, and has an unsharpened blade ground from Chrome-Vanadium steel and tempered to a Rockwell Hardness of 50. The blade is peened to the pommel and ensconced within a complex hilt of darkened, cast steel. The grip has been spiraled with wire over formed brown leather and surmounted with cast brass ferrules.
