practicality
Inspired by @iwaixiumi-main on Tumblr! (using your quirk for the first time headcanons)
characters: katsuki bakugou
plot: you’ve only used your quirk in front of your friends for fun little tricks, but never at its full potential. your classmates witness this for the first time when katuski bakugou hits a nerve.
warnings: swearing, angst, dedgration (not sexual), kind of a fluffy ending
word count: 1.5k+
a/n: i apologize for making kirishima the secondary love interest that gets thrown away at the end for the second time 💀💀 i promise i’ll write smt just for him đŸ˜©
Tumblr media
Your Quirk: You have the ability to control any water around you. When under your control, the water can become as strong as iron (you determine the strength). The downside: the more you use, the heavier it feels—use too much and you could injure yourself from the weight (possibly even crushing yourself).
Tumblr media
Your classmates had seen your Quirk in action many times before, mainly for fun, but never during combat. You knew water wasn’t accessible in every situation, so you stuck with fist to fist action. After exam season, it surprised you to find your name on the list of students with top scores, especially on the combat portion since you barely used your Quirk. Nevertheless, a large weight was lifted from your shoulders.
Denki and Kirishima invited all of Class 1-A to the beach to celebrate. You brought your bag inside one of the stalls, taking your sweet time to change. It was the weekend, after all, no need to rush. Worn out from exams, you planned on using the day to relax, unlike your classmates who buzzed with energy. Your plan was foiled when Kirishima caught you tiptoeing out the changing stall, hoping no one would spot you.
“Hey hey hey, (Y/N)!” Kirishima slung his arm around your shoulders. “You ready to hit the waves with us? Maybe you can finally show us your Quirk!”
You shook your head with a small laugh. “Come on, Kiri, you’ve seen it before.”
Kirishima led you towards the shore. “Yeah, yeah, but I wanna see how manly it can be!”
You pushed him off with another laugh which turned into a scream when he shoved you into the water. “Oh, you are not getting away with that!”
As Kirishima tried to run, tendrils of water wrapped around his ankles, keeping him grounded. He tried using his Quirk to escape, but you were stronger. You and Kiri spent the next few minutes stuck in a splash battle, which gained the attention of the others. Though you wanted good old-fashioned fun without your Quirk, the rest of the class encouraged you to show your best tricks, and their jubilant faces made it hard to refuse. You sent waves crashing at their feet to see who could run away the fastest, played volleyball with a bubble of water with Uraraka, and even swam out to the deeper parts of the beach with Kiri who was starstruck when you created air bubbles around your heads, letting you safely view the fish that swam by.
On the shore, Bakugou watched with steam coming out his ears. He gritted his teeth as you and Kirishima sat beside him at the picnic table, Kiri’s arm wrapped around your shivering body as the sun began to set. Jealousy nipped at his skin like harsh bug bites.
Why should I give a fuck? Not like I’m into them or anything.
But he knew damn well he wanted it to be his arms around you and the one to brush the wet hair out of your face instead of stupid Kiri. He glared at you and the red-haired boy, him feeding you a piece of sushi like a baby.
“Brrr, the airplane’s coming, open wide!”
“Dammit, Kiri! Just give it to me already.”
You twirled your finger and a stream of water flew into Kiri’s nose. Bakugou rolled his eyes as you doubled over in laughter, chin resting in his palm.
“Tch, couldn’t use your Quirk for something useful?”
You shrugged. “I’d say this is pretty useful.” You stuffed a piece of sushi from Kiri’s plate into your mouth as he wiped the snot from his face.
“You’re an idiot. Just cause you can do cool shit with it doesn’t make you the shit.”
You gave Bakugou an awkward smile, who kept his eyes glued to the table. The rest of the class went quiet. His taunts were usually followed by a scoff or chuckle, but his voice was sharp and cold.
“Never said I was. Not my fault everyone thinks it’s cool, right guys?” Your classmates chimed in agreement.
Bakugou snorted. “So why didn’t you use it during exams? Why don’t you use it for something better than shitty party tricks? Don’t you want to be a hero? How can you do that when you’re too afraid to use it against a real opponent?”
“I-I’m not afraid!” Your cheeks burned with the anger bubbling in your stomach. “It’s just not practical!”
“Not practical, my ass. Admit it, dumbass, you bribed your way up the class rankings, didn’t you?”
Kiri looked between the two of you nervously. “H-Hey man, I think that’s enough. Let’s all calm down and have some fun, alright?”
“Shut up, Kiri! This isn’t about you!” Bakugou snarled. What the hell was he saying? Even if he refused to acknowledge his feelings, you were his crush—he let his mouth talk without thinking and there was no going back. He was letting his explosive attitude get the best of him and part of him felt relieved to blow off some steam.
The table shook as you shot out of your seat, your clenched fists shaking at your sides and furious tears streaming down your face.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?”
The class murmured as ocean water climbed slowly up the sand, dangerously close to where they set up the barbecue. “You know I studied so hard for those exams. Don’t you remember all those nights I spent awake in the middle of the night? Shitty party tricks, is that all I am to you?”
The water rose like a cape above your shoulders, casting a dark shadow over your wrathful face. Your arms trembled under the weight, but the adrenaline ignored the pain. Kiri scurried from the table, leaving Bakugou to stare at the ominous wave blocking the last of the sun’s golden rays from view. It truly did look like an iron wall, so close to crashing down and crushing him underneath. Bakugou set off an explosion as the wave stopped inches from his neck in the shape of a spear, the tip sharp enough to slice his skin.
“Is this practical enough for you?” you sobbed. You sank to your knees and covered your tear stricken face. The water retreated to the ocean, leaving everyone untouched, except the poor table, now charred from Bakugou’s hand. Sniffling, you snatched your bag from the sand and excused yourself before slamming the door of the changing stall. After getting dressed, you declined Uraraka and Deku’s offer to accompany you to Heights Alliance. With the mood now sour, Class-1A packed and cleaned the area before heading home in tense silence.
Bakugou couldn’t sleep that night. He stared at the ceiling with a frown, hands clasped together on his stomach. He cared about you so much, but he let his stupid jealousy consume him. Now, you would probably be angry with him for the rest of your life, and Bakugou couldn’t live with that. Seeing you walk away with your head down and wiping your tears shattered his heart. You were the one for him and he fucked it up like he always did.
He jumped from his bed with a pounding heart. He slipped on his shoes, which were on the wrong feet, and left his dorm.
What the hell am I doing?
Bakugou pounded on your door. He couldn’t care less if the whole building woke up—he had to see you. He was never one to share his feelings, but with you in mind at that moment, there was nothing more he wanted to do. Bakugou pounded on your door again, tempted to blow it down if you didn’t wake up. To his surprise, you answered with a scowl and puffy eyes.
“What the fuck do you want?”
You swore your ribs almost caved in when his strong, muscular arms wrapped around your body fervently. Bakugou kept his hand on your head as he nuzzled his nose into your hair, inhaling your sweet, comforting scent.
     “I’m sorry
” he murmured. His grip tightened when you tried to push him off.
“Is that all you have to say?” you hissed. Your voice shook at the foreign feeling of his warmth, making you wonder if it was someone else disguised as him.
“No, it’s not.” Bakugou cupped your face with both hands, heart beating a mile a minute as he stared into your eyes. “I like you id- (Y/N). I’ve always liked you, and I’m sorry.”
You were paralyzed. Bakugou’s calloused thumb brushed a stray tear you didn’t even know had fallen from your face. Your mouth hung open in disbelief.
     He
 likes me?
His words from earlier rushed back into your head. You tried to shake off his grasp. “What a great fucking way to show that.”
“I know, I know. I didn’t mean any of it, you have to believe me. I was just
I was jealous, okay? I was fucking jealous of you and Kiri getting all buddy-buddy, and I said shit I shouldn’t have said.” Your eyes widened as he placed a tentative kiss between your brows. “You’re more than a party trick; you’re everything to me. And I can’t live with the idea of you hating me, cause I like you too much to handle that. Hell, I might even love you.”
Your lip quivered at the sudden rush of emotions. You clung to the front of his shirt and pressed his face against his shoulder. “Do you really mean that?”
     “Hell yeah, I do. I-”
You cut him off with a gentle kiss to the lips. “I like you, too, Katsuki. But what you said
”
“You don’t have to forgive me right now. But you’re my world, my little teddy bear, and I just want to hold you. Is that too much to ask?”
You shook your head. “It’s never too much to ask.”

bnha characters as volleyball players (au headcanons)
i have never in my life played volleyball outside of gym class and the occasional beach jaunt, so this is all based off of what i learned from haikyuu LOL
anyways, this started as tags from this fanart by @syblatortue of deku, kacchan, kiri, sero, iida and shouto as vball players, and then it got away from me so if you wanna read 2.9k worth of headcanons about powerhouse athletics high school UA then go ahead and press “read more” :)
deku's the calculating setter like kenma and he fanboys over stats from the international to the national to the high school
kacchan used to make fun of him and look down on him bc he used to think too much on court to move properly, and as a kid kacchan used to think that it was spiking or bust so he always gave deku grief and bullied him over being slow and weak
in middle school kacchan was a starter since first year and eventually became the ace but deku was always second string setter
his athleticism was nothing to write home about but he was just good enough to make the bench
in their middle school tournament their starting setter got injured and deku had to step in to set for a match for the first time ever
powerhouse volleyball high school coach yagi toshinori is watching and he sees all the aborted plans in deku's setting choices
he sees the gutsy sets that miss and the one successful dump he did that threw everyone off-guard (even deku himself), and yagi remembers what it was like to be hungry for volleyball seeing the look in this kid's eyes and he recognizes the brain on him
their team loses there though bc the fact is that deku wasnt athletic enough to do it and kacchan is yelling and deku's crying
but yagi approaches deku (who freaks out bc all might is THE legendary vball player of their country, and the nation was SHOOK when after getting severely injured by a malicious spike in the wrong place he chose to coach high school vball, even if the school was a powerhouse school and also his alma mater lol)
but anyways deku babbles and fanboys even through his tears and says he got into UA but he's not sure he can make the vball team, and yagi says he sees the potential in deku's plays and if he trains hard every. single. day. from now until the tryouts at UA, he might make at least the bench
(cue montage)
kacchan is angry to see deku at tryouts and fuckn RAGING when deku more or less keeps up bc deku got buff since their last high school match
unfortunately for kacchan he is actually the one most familiar with deku's playing since they trained together in middle school too, and he almost pops a blood vessel just thinking it but ever since deku started actually being able to get to the ball in time, vball has been more fun ‘cuz the things deku ends up doing are fucking batshit crazy and his sets are begrudgingly his favourite to hit
deku sets right where kacchan can just hit the ball as violently as he can, and it sounds like a bomb goes off when the spike hits the ground
(kacchan also obviously has the best serves and he mixes it up with the power ones like his ap shots, or floaters when he's strategic; he knows how to read the opposing team and either wait or serve really fast and serves up high to blind them like his flashbomb explosions, and he’s really arrogant about his serves but at least he can back it up as per classic kacchan)
anyways they become a really intimidating duo, apart but especially together, because despite the way deku still occasionally cowers from kacchan’s rage and kacchan is often yelling and antagonizing deku, they can read each other really smoothly on court and they match each other really easily, and they both go for the really gutsy shit no one else would think to try (like samu and tsumu going for the freak quick with samu setting kind of gutsy)
kacchan is also antagonizing af and calls the other team extras lol
but yeah, those two along with renown olympic vball player todoroki enji's son shouto are the three most intimidating first years at UA
enji has a very aggressive playing style and where he targets people on the opposing team specifically to make them sweat, makes them feel like he’s hot on their heels even from the other side of the net, always glaring, always strong
shouto hates it and hates the way his dad made him train day in and day out just because he had a good reaction time and instincts for the ball when he was young
fuyumi and natsuo were slow as kids and got immediately dismissed bc of it bc to enji if they werent athletic enough for the ideal vball playing style as children then theyd never be athletic enough to beat all might’s vball career and metrics in the future
touya was fast enough but he overtrained and strained his knees and then continued straining them to play anyways till they were permanently damaged, and by the time he graduated middle school, his doctor put him on orders to never ever ever do anything that might be overly strenuous for his knees ever again
anyways, shouto plays very cool and detached, like even when he spikes the ball right into your face you’ll feel like he wasn’t looking; he’s a middle blocker like suna, stays calm but uses his whole body
deku eventually convinces him that playing with fire every once in a while, especially when he spikes, can be a good thing because at the end of the day, his dad may have taught him the tricks but it’s shouto himself who’s playing, and so it’s not his dad’s style, it’s his own
also the spikes just aren’t as good or as psychologically effective if shouto’s not 100p IN it when he goes to spike one of deku’s demanding sets
and im gonna say shouto is ambidextrous but more comfortable with his left hand in this volleyball au because shouto’s left side is his fire side, and it’s more parallel to the character to make his more aggressive spiking hand his left one but still have him be able to use his left hand for spikes too (it’s also SO stressful for opponents bc angles)
also yes he does indeed only play with his right hand (his ice side) when he gets into UA, and is initially very hellbent on proving to his father that he can become a pro vball player without being as aggressive as enji on court and without using his more dominant hand, the hand that his dad’s been focusing on whenever they trained at home, the hand he’s spent hours and hours spiking and serving with since he was like five years old
one day deku notices shouto’s writing with his left hand and then connects the dots and sort of badgers him into spiking one of his sets with his left hand too and then yeah shouto tells him his life story and deku manages to emotionally coerce him into being okay with his left-handed spikes
(shouto also feels better about it when deku points out the left-handed angles thing)
so yeah that’s the big three scary first year starters: calculating and gutsy deku, who occasionally makes plays so gutsy he’s at risk of twisting one of his limbs in a very scary way (he’s always bruised in weird ass places from volleyball); raging, aggressive but also cunning kacchan, who is undoubtedly the loudest on any court he’s on, and ambidextrous hot and cold shouto, who does a pretty solid general defense with little holes but has scary aggressive spikes
btw shouto’s got a fanclub and they call him the volleyball prince
also at one point they totally play a practice match against shiketsu and UA loses bc inasa starts antagonizing shouto for being exactly like his father (inasa asked for enji’s autograph after a match once when he was a kid and got rudely blown off) and shouto gets offended and starts targeting inasa and then they get outplayed (it was a close match though ‘cuz both of them couldnt get their heads out of their asses and both their teams were suffering as a result)
alrighty, the other players in that fanart lmao!
kirishimaaaaa my dude my bro, super solid libero, always pumps up the team, and his defense is unbreakable! will receive even the scariest, most powerful spikes and smile cheerfully through it; will always insist that you’re manly for playing with everything you have and never letting fear get in the way of going for it
his middle school had a huge and scary substitute gym teacher who didn’t have mercy and spiked hard right to the faces of the students, and kiri really wanted to run forward to receive the spike and yell about how unfair this teacher was but he froze because the spike seemed unforgiving and if he received it wrong, what if his nose broke? what if he fell and broke something from the impact? mina didnt pause though and she received the spike and told off their substitute teacher and then reported it to their homeroom teacher and it was so manly of her, he promised himself he would never hesitate just bc of a scary spike again
btw mina’s all-around athletic and could probably make it onto the girls vball team but she’s probably on the UA dance team (UA is a powerhouse school for many sports, and theyre famous for their athletics department bc they often hire (former) pro-athletes to teach and coach)
iida comes from a family of sprint runners and he’s the one they trust for the most running; he’s their first year decoy and he’s fast af for such a big guy, and he often also provides extra block support from zooming left and right
also enjoys helping out the managers and corralling his team into being good students; he’d offer to tutor kirishima but kiri seems to have fun trying to be friends with bakugou lol; he makes it known that he’s there if kiri wants some extra patience to go along with his studies though
sero guess blocks so accurately people like to say that he’s got tape coming from his elbows, bringing the ball straight to his arms so that he can block; actually he’s pretty known for having weirdly accurate control bumping the ball back from places other than his hands (esp his elbows though), like he’s just so aware of his body, and he uses everything he can to keep the ball off the ground so he’s good at general defense
some other people i wanna mention:
aizawa’s their supervising teacher and the first year homeroom teacher (he gets to hear bakugou explode both first thing in the morning AND right at the end of the day, oh joy); all might just coaches ‘cuz he does other former pro stuff during class time, so he somehow ended up in charge of the volleyball club after the previous teacher stopped being able to
he never went pro but he’s a black belt mixed martial artist, and he still does those parent-child karate classes with hitoshi (who is now close to black belt and on the demo team, since they’ve been doing this since hitoshi was like five) and eri (who just got her yellow belt! aizawa is soft)
only hizashi, nemuri, oboro and his kids know this but he’s also REALLY good at doing aerial silk and he looks graceful af when he does it
hitoshi started kinda learning aerial silk when hizashi took him to a rock climbing place that had the silks on the ceiling (dont at me, there’s a place EXACTLY like this where i used to live lmao) and found out they offer classes there, and hizashi laughed and said “yknow your dad is pro at those right”
ochako is their first year manager, and when everyone is confused about kacchan continuing to call deku something so mean, she talks about how the nickname is cute and gives off the impression that he’s trying his best and when deku grins and blushes and seems to be happy with it, the whole team starts calling him deku with the same intentions and fondness behind it
every time other people hear UA calling their starting setter “deku” theyre so confused
nejire is the third year manager leaving and she does gymnastics and dance outside of school
mirio is the ace and his thing is that he is very strong and very precise, and he moves like he phases through the other players
tamaki is a middle blocker that can adapt all kinds of playing strategies pretty fast as long as he’s got time to digest them and decent food in his stomach—he’s a great decoy ‘cuz his spikes are hard and he’s pretty fast too, and while he prefers read blocking, there are a few times he guess blocks and it’s accurate af and kinda scary honestly
tamaki and mirio are also pretty fearsome ‘cuz people start off scared of mirio’s power spikes and serves (btw his goal is to spike a million service aces LOL), and then tamaki kind of surprises them ‘cuz he seems to be able to just? do everything??? (and theyre extra surprised bc no doubt he’ll be talking himself down and doubting himself before the match and the opponents will think like “oh good he’s mentally weak” and he kind of is but also holy shit??? we got blocked AGAIN???) and so they sort of only keep a peripheral eye on mirio while they start focusing on tamaki, and then all of a sudden mirio’s not where you thought he was and how’d he get there so fast and there other players in the way??? and then mirio spikes one in
this isn’t really related to anything else but you BET mirio can bend low and do insanely accurate bump receives from pretty close to the ground like! his thighs and knees are legend
we don’t really know any second year bnha students, but i’d like to think their starting team isn’t just first years, so i’d say like
hm or mb tamaki is starting setter (all the stuff about adapting and easily digesting strategies still applies, as well as his flexible skillset, it just now includes setting) and mirio is his ace, but all might puts deku in a lot more than you’d expect a bench player to be subbed in not only ‘cuz it shakes up the other team to see such a meek-looking kid do these gutsy-ass sets, but also bc it’s good for tamaki’s mental health that he feels like he’s got a really great setter right there supporting him as well, even though he knows (objectively) that he can hold the fort on his own
so yeah, id say tamaki and mirio for sure starters (mirio is captain), kirishima’s a starter (he’s always been really good, he just used to get a little scared off in matches sometimes, but since the thing with mina, he’s been really gunning for it, and also conveniently their last really good libero graduated the year before and they didn’t really have a good backup), shouto’s a starter (he’s lowkey mad about it bc it feels like he’s fulfilling his dad’s legacy and he doesnt want to be), and probably two second years, that feels fair
bakugou’s benched bc his temper’s still a little too unwieldy for the court (much to his dismay), sero’s still patching up holes in his defense, and deku could stand to watch other people’s playing styles, but u bet theyre all fearsome af when theyre on court: deku seems to be the only one that seems to be able to bring out shouto’s terrifying spikes for now; after their first qualifiers, rumours fly around the vball circuit about his angry pinch server that’s so mad he’s not a regular, he takes it all out on his serves and rip the team that has to try and receive them
well okay, so bakugou is the only that i can qualify as actually fearsome bc even when he’s being intimidating sero is a pretty chill dude, and deku looks too nice to really be scary so the opponents usually arent scared until he starts playing and then for them it’s just this internal monologue of “what the fuck? what the FUCK???”
and sero, while chill, is the type to be aggressively cheerful and grin really wide after he blocks and gives you, the opponent, really supportive feedback that sort of still offends you but in a way you cant refute because every word he said was nice and his demeanour was nice too and yet? you kinda wanna strangle him??? and then he laughs winsomely and blocks your next spike too (like, “awh i noticed you have a tendency to follow here when xyz happens, but better luck next time right? that’s usually a pretty good play”)
and of COURSE their school banner says “plus ultra”
ANYWAYS i went OFF lmao i can’t believe i really wrote 2.9k of headcanons for this
i have waaaay more ideas about what the rest of the class and other characters are up to in this au that is powerhouse athletics high school UA so if for some reason you got all the way to the end then thank you and please interact if you wanna talk more about it!!!

Oh wait I’m so sorry, I didn’t realise you did up to 2 fandoms matchups so can I resubmit, please?
I was wondering if I could request a BNHA/ Haikyuu matchup, please?
I am a 5”4 female, I have a preference for guys but wouldn’t object to a girl. I’m an INTJ-A, 3w5, Capricorn sun, Leo arising, Cancer moon. My top love language is acts of service and the bottom one (I think it was like only 9%) was words of affirmation. I’m an introverted extrovert- I CAN thrive around people but it takes a lot to actually make me leave the house in the first place.
I’m a relatively sporty person, I go on runs/ hikes/ bike rides daily and work out most days. I’m a cheerleader (stunt, not sideline), I roller skate, I like volleyball, gym, martial arts etc. I’m an acting student and have done a bit of professional movie work. I like to play video games on PC, Switch and PS4- I also twitch stream. I like writing & reading, love the beach. I was a bit of an overachiever and would get straight A’s and stuff in school.
I’m ambitious, kind of argumentative (but can admit when I’m wrong for the most part), will fight anyone. Not really good at responding to emotions but I try my best, my responses are: “1. Do you need me to fight someone? 2. Do you want advice? 3. Do you want like? A hug or something? 4. Ok? So get over it.”
Anyway, thank you in advance if you do respond <3
No problem! I was in school when you sent this so I apologize if it took me a minute to get to it.
Your Boku No Hero Academia matchup is..Izuku Midoriya !!
Tumblr media
So, Midoriya here isn’t always the best at saying how he feels aloud. He’s gotten better at it recently, but that doesn’t mean he stutters from time to time when it comes to talking to people. Especially girls I find.
I’d say instead of saying it forwardly, he’s more of the type to just give you flowers with a note made by him to tell you how much he loves you.
I’d say Midoriya is a introvert-extrovert as well. He warms up to people first before really becoming good friends with them. He’s worried they might not be the right crew for him, or if they’ll just hurt him in the end.
Sporty person? So is Deku! He’s always there to cheer you on and tell you you’re doing great with everything you do.
You can be his cheerleader, doing flips and cheering him on that he’s a great hero. He’s built up confidence over the hero corse but he still needs that little reassurance. It makes him feel thousands of times better!
Midoriya likes to practice on the beach a lot, especially the one he cleaned up about a year ago. When he does, he likes to bring you with him. You can train with him too if you’re in the hero corse!
Izuku doesn’t play many video games, but when he is taking a moment to breath he’ll play some with you. I think he’d really like PvP games personally.
Imagine you, Midoriya, Todoroki, Tsu, Tenya and Ochaco playing Mario Party together? I’m jealous-
Your argumentative side catches him at first.
He doesn’t see you as the type to respond that way, but saylavee.
He’ll probably speak up for you if you get a little to aggressive.
He can be a little awkward when giving advice too, so don’t worry.
Runners up: Katsuki Bakugou, Shoto Todoroki, Tsuyu Asui
Your Haikyuu!! matchup is..Koshi Sugawara !!
Tumblr media
Out of the two of you, I think Suga is the more extroverted one.
Don’t get me wrong, he still has his moments where he doesn’t really know much of what to say. But if your nervous he’ll speak for you.
I don’t think Suga would tell you he likes you forwardly, rather it’d be his team. Specifically Tanaka and Noya.
After you here that he has a crush on you from them, he apologizes and asks if he can walk you home. Such a gentleman-
You like sports? Awesome! As we all know he plays volleyball and if you’d like to play some while chilling on the beach that’d be cool! Probably a date idea for the two of you.
He’s not sure about the cheerleading thing. He’s always stereotyped those girls as a general Cheryl Blossom, or prim and proper person..but your so cool!
When you first show him you doing crazy flips and tricks, he’s gunna lose it. Maybe a bit nervous you might bust your head open.
He’s played games before, and will legit play any with you! Don’t make fun of him if he sucks at a few games though-
Suga is great at giving advice, and is like the mom of his group. If you get into an argumentative mood he’ll step up for you. If you tell him not to, I’m sure he’ll stop but tell you you should take a more calmer approach.
Runners up!!: Kuroo Tetsuro, Asahi Azumane

Bakugou x OC Messaged Received: Chapter Twenty Two
Summary:  Bakugou Katsuki wants to improve his English after enough incidents of tourists getting into trouble. Harper Bailey is hoping to learn enough Japanese to be able to take a trip to Japan one day. They find a site that sets up online pen pals to help them improve in the language they’re learning. When they’re paired together it’s the beginning of a relationship neither of them expected.

Previous Chapter | Chapter Twenty Two | Next Chapter
It had been a week since Harper had arrived in Japan. That week had been the best week of Bakugou’s life. Or at least that’s what he felt at the moment.
Bakugou sat on the couch watching Harper make her cup of coffee. As she stirred the drink with a spoon she did an excited little dance as she did he realized just how far gone he was as he smiled widely at her actions.
Sure, he had accepted how deep his feelings were for her but he wasn’t planning on saying it out loud any time soon. It wasn’t that he was sure about how he felt but even with how well he felt things were going he was still scared that she didn’t feel the same way. He couldn’t imagine anything more embarrassing than putting his feelings on the table only for her to not return them.
It was easy for him to get caught up in what their future would look like but he constantly told himself to take things one step at a time. For now, she was going to stay here longer and that was good enough for now.
Harper returned to the couch, sitting down next to Bakugou, he placed his arm around her as she did.
“I just have to answer some work emails then I’m all yours.” She said resting her head against his shoulder as she pulled her phone out.
Last night Midoriya had texted him about a group of their friends getting together to go to the beach. His initial reaction was to say no. He would prefer to spend the day alone with Harper but more than that he was worried to introduce her to all his childhood friends at once. He knew it would be overwhelming and didn’t want to put her through that.
At the same time, he also did want them to meet, even if he knew his friends were sure to embarrass him in front of her. But he wanted her to be a part of his life and this was a good way to start. He finally decided to leave it up to her.
“I was wondering if you’d like to go to the beach today?” He asked.
“Oh, you’re not surprising me this time?” She teased, looking up from her phone.
“Midoriya invited us, a lot of my high school friends will be there. I wanted you to have a choice. I didn’t just want to throw you into it.” He explained.
“That’s very sweet of you.” She said pressing a kiss against his cheek. “I would really like to meet your friends. Are Mina and Jirou going?”
“Yeah, I think so.” He said. “Did you bring a bathing suit or do we need to get one?”
“I brought one, I kind of over-packed but in hindsight that wasn’t a bad thing.” She laughed.
“Let me make you breakfast before we get ready.” He said, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.
“How can I say no to that.” She said with a big smile, leaning up to press a kiss to his lips. Bakugou’s heart skipped a beat.
Bakugou quickly made breakfast for both of them before getting ready. He made sure to pack a back with sunscreen and towels as well as grab an umbrella and chairs.
He was finishing packing some drinks and snacks when Harper walked out of his bedroom dressed in a pair of shorts and a tank top.
They arrived at the beach, the sun was bright in the sky and the weather was perfect for swimming. Harper was nervous, she would admit it. For one, they were all impressive pro heroes but more importantly, they were Bakugou’s friends. Even if he played it off that they weren’t super close she knew they meant a lot to him.
“Are Suki and Kirishima going to be here?” She asked.
“Yeah, they rarely miss anything where we all get together.” He said, pulling their bags out of the car. Harper tried to reach for one before Bakugou pulled it away giving her a look. She should have known better that he wouldn’t let her carry anything. She put her own bag over her shoulder refusing to let him take it for her.
It was a funny sight looking at him carrying all of their stuff at one. The bags over his shoulder, chairs in hand, and umbrella balanced somewhere in there and yet he still left his hand open to hold hers.
“If it’s too much we can leave whenever.” He said squeezing her hand reassuringly.
“Thank you, I appreciate it.” She said looking up at him with a big smile.
It was easy to spot the group even with only knowing a few of them. There was a large group, they had umbrellas, towels and chairs set up all over. As they approached them all Harper started to feel even more nervous.
“Harper!” A familiar voice shouted. She looked over to see Mina waving at them excitedly. Harper and Bakugou approached and Mina gave Harper a hug before going to hug Bakugou. “I’m surprised you guys came, I was sure Bakugou would want to keep you to himself.”
Bakugou gave her a look and Harper laughed.
“I’m glad we came, I’m excited to meet everyone.” She said.
“Hey, guys!” Kirishima said as he and Suki approached. They both gave them hugs as well.
“I’m so hurt that you got to meet her before I did.” Harper heard from a blond man as he approached with Jirou beside him. He had yellow eyes and a black stripe that almost resembled a lightning bolt in his hair. She recognized him from the news the other day.
“Hey, Harper.” Jirou greeted. “It’s good to see you again. This is my boyfriend Denki.”
“Not just your boyfriend but one of Bakugou’s best friends.” He defended. “Not that I’m not absolutely overjoyed to be your boyfriend.” He said giving Jirou a charming smile.
“It’s nice to meet you,” Harper said bowing.
“Hey, I don’t want to be left out!” A man with black hair said. He had a wide grin and odd elbows. “I’m Sero, it’s nice to finally meet you. You’ve been quite the subject among us all.”
“Oh boy, hopefully only good things,” Harper said with a nervous laugh. She understood that it was only expected to be talked about, her own friends talked about Bakugou quite a lot.
“It’s not been anything negative.” Mina jumped in. “Everyone has just been excited to meet you.”
“I’m glad it’s mutual.” Harper laughed.
“We’re going to play some volleyball if you want to join. We need one more for the girl's team.” Jirou mentioned.
“Oh, I love volleyball. I’d like to play.” She replied excitedly.
“Perfect, I’ll introduce you to the rest of the girls.” She said grabbing Harper by the hand. Harper spared Bakugou a look before being dragged away. He looked concerned but she gave him a reassuring smile to let him know she didn’t mind.
“Okay, you know Jirou and Suki of course. This is Momo,” She said pointing the woman with her black hair in a ponytail. She looked so elegant.
“Asui,” She said.
“My friends call me Tsu.” The green hair woman said. She had big eyes and almost resembled a frog.
“And Uraraka, or Midoriya now,” Mina said with a laugh at her slip up.
“You’re married to Deku?” Harper asked. The brunette blushed.
“Yeah, it’s been over a year now.” She said sheepishly. “Have you met him yet?”
“Oh, no not yet. I’ve heard about him quite a bit. Is he here?” She asked. Harper was quite interested to meet Midoriya. She had heard so much about him both from her own friend back in America and from Bakugou now.
“We forgot to bring ice so he went to go get some, he should be back pretty quick.” She explained.
“Alright, let’s head over to the net,” Mina said. Harper’s gaze followed to the net that wasn’t too far from where they had set up everything.
“Are you going to play?” Harper asked as she walked beside Suki.
“Oh no, honestly I can’t keep up with all these heroes.” She laughed. Harper gave her a serious look.
“Am I about to make a fool out of myself?” She asked.
“Maybe?” Suki said trying not to laugh at her sudden seriousness. “Depends on how good you are at volleyball.”
“What have I gotten myself into.” Harper sighed.
They got to the sandy court and the guys were there and ready to play. On the other team, there was Bakugou, Sero, Denki, and Kirishima that she knew. There was also Iida, a tall dark blue-haired man and Tokoyami who had a bird head and a quirk called Dark Shadow that was a sentient bird shadow that was a part of him. Nothing out of the ordinary. She had also seen him on the news.
Harper tried her best not to stare at Bakugou as he pulled off his shirt and tossed it to the side before getting into place for the game. He said something to Sero that she couldn’t hear.
The game began and it was easy for Harper to understand why Suki sits these games out. The speed and power that they casually played at was far above anything Harper could accomplish. The ball darted back and forth far quicker than she could keep up with. She tried following it along but it usually was gone before she could do anything.
It was also hard to focus on the game when she couldn’t keep her eyes off of Bakugou. The way that he jumped for the ball spiking it into the sand. The way his muscles flexed as he effortlessly moved. That determined look in his eyes as he watched everyone before deciding his next move. She almost didn’t mind that it was a point against them when he did it.
“Harper!” Mina shouted, setting the ball in her direction. It headed toward her at a normal speed for once. She was able to run up and hit the ball over the net. The ball headed in Bakugou’s direction. His gaze moved from Harper and to the ball. He hesitated before going for the ball but it slipped past him.
Harper shot Bakugou a look. There was no way he couldn’t have hit that ball.
“Oh my god, he really is going soft.” Denki said.
“Shut up, extra.” He shouted over at his friend.
“I’ve never seen Bakugou let anyone win anything on purpose.” Sero chimed in.
“They’re gonna get themselves killed.” Jirou said indifferently.
“Never stopped them before.” Mina laughed.
Bakugou walked over to them but Kirishima was quick to intervene, holding him back.
“Wow, guys. Let’s get back to this game so we can break out the snacks once it’s over.” Kirishima reasoned.
Bakugou let it go, looking over to Harper. She gave him an amused look. Bakugou smiled back. She saw Denki open his mouth but Tokoyami was quick to slap his hand over his mouth to stop whatever comment was about to come out.
The game went on, even with Harper not able to help out very much the girls stayed nearly tied to the boys. It felt like the last play of the game lasted forever. Both sides were pushing to win. The ball went back and forth for the longest time.
The ball was about to hit the sand on the girl's side when Harper dove for it. She pretty much went face-first into the sand but she was able to hit it up just enough for Tsu to jump up and spike it onto the boy's side.
The girls cheered. Mina and Jirou helped Harper up from the ground.
“Harper you’re amazing.” Ochaco said approaching her as Harper dusted the sand off of herself. She was going to feel that tomorrow but it was worth it to not be the most useless person on the team.
“I’m glad I was able to do something.” She laughed. “I didn’t realize just how out of my league I was.”
“As long as you had a good time, that’s all that matters.” Tsu said.
After they finished up they broke out the snacks as Kirishima promised. Harper got to meet Shoji, Aoyama, Ojiro, Sato, and Koda as they arrived. They were all so nice.
Bakugou stayed close to Harper’s side, almost always having a hand on her whether they were holding hands or he had his arm around her shoulder. It was nice, getting to meet everyone and laugh with them. She would sneak looks at Bakugou when he wasn’t looking at her and see how content and happy he looked around his friends.
“You’re finally back.” Ochaco said Harper looked to where she was walking over to only to see a tall green-haired man. That must be Midoriya, she thought. He had bright green eyes and freckles across his cheeks. He was both an intimidating figure and very soft at the same time.
“Sorry, I got caught up with some work on the way back.” He said sheepishly.
“Of course you did.” She said with a laugh.
“Look who I found on the way here.” He said gesturing to the two men with him. One had purple hair and the other had white hair on one side and red hair on the other along with a scar on one side of his face.
“I got lost.” The one with the split hair said.
“I found him lost on my way here.” The purple-haired one said.
“Of course you did.” Bakugou scoffed. “That’s Midoriya, Shinsou, and Todoroki.” He said pointing to them respectively.
“It’s nice to meet you all.” Harper said with a smile.
They all said hello to her before splitting off to different areas. Midoriya took his ice to a cooler before making his way back to Bakugou and Harper.
“Kaachan! It’s good to see you. How are you feeling?” He asked giving him a big smile. Harper looked over to Bakugou giving him a look at the nickname. He gave her a look back that said don’t touch it. She smirked.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about it.” He replied.
“You must be Harper. I’m really happy to get to meet you.” He said with a bright smile.
“Same here, I’ve heard a lot about you,” Harper said. “In fact, one of my close friends in America is a really big fan. She’s actually a pro hero, she’s not in the top ten or anything but she’s awesome.”
Midoriya’s face lit up. He asked about her friend and her quirk. Harper gladly explained everything, it took her off guard that he was so genuinely interested.
“Do you have a quirk?” He asked.
“Yeah, I can control plants. Not very much but it comes in handy for keep houseplants alive.” She laughed.
“Wow, that’s an awesome quirk!” He said. She wasn’t expecting him to be so impressed by her quirk and it didn’t seem like he was just trying to be nice.
“Can you control any plants? Is it only small plants or can you control trees or any organic material? How can you control them? Can you move them or is it only their growth?” Midoriya rambled out what felt like a million questions. It was overwhelming she wasn’t sure where to start.
“Cut it out, nerd.” Bakugou interrupted. “That’s too many questions.”
“Oh, I’m sorry!” He apologized. “I get a little carried away.”
“That’s an understatement.” Bakugou scoffed.
“It’s okay.” Harper said.
The three of them ended up sitting down under some shade as Harper explained her quirk to Midoriya. His genuine interest was flattering. This was the number one pro hero in Japan and he was interested in her quirk that in her own opinion was barely capable of taking care of a garden. Granted, it did help her when she was kidnapped so she supposed she couldn’t bash it too much.
“Bakugou, can you help us before Kirishima burns all the food?” Suki called out to him. She was standing next to Kirishima who was standing in front of a grill that currently had more fire in it than looked necessary.
“I’ll be back.” He said to Harper giving her a soft look before getting up.
“No worries.” She replied.
“He really cares about you.” Midoriya said when Bakugou was out of ear’s range. Harper looked over at Midoriya.
“I really care about him too.” She said with a smile.
“Kaachan has been through a lot, he’s grown a lot. He’s an amazing hero, an amazing person.” He said. “He deserves an amazing person.”
“I agree.” She said. “I hope I can be that person for him.”
Midoriya smiled at you.
“I know I don’t know you very well but I have a good feeling about you.” He said. “Kaachan mentioned you're an author.”
“Yeah, I write under the name Harper Hawthorne.” She explained.
“Really? Ochaco loves your books. She made me read them when we first started dating.” He said. “We can’t wait for the next book.”
“You guys like them?” She said with a laugh. Who would have thought that the number one hero had read her books? “Well, then I’ll have to hook you guys up with it before it’s out.”
“If you could not tell Ochaco that would amazing. Our anniversary is coming up and that would be the perfect gift.” He pleaded.
“On one condition,” She said with a smirk. “My friend’s a big fan and it would make her life if you could send her a little video saying hello.”
“Of course.” He said happily. “I can get her some merch too if she wants. I’ll even sign it.”
“She would love that!”
“You two are really excited about something.” Bakugou said as he returned.
“We’re just bonding.” Harper said.
“Great.” His tone was dry but she could tell he was happy that they were getting along. “C’mon, let’s go in the water.”
Before she could protest Bakugou was pulling her up and dragging her towards the water.
The water was beautiful, a clear blue against the white sands it was picture perfect. Harper hadn’t seen a part of Japan she hadn’t liked yet. The water rose and crashed against the shore.
Harper wasn’t one for the beach, normally. The waves made her nervous and she had never been a strong swimmer. The few times she had beach days with her friends she always stayed far away from the water and stuck to getting a nice tan or helping her friends prepare food.
But she didn’t want to stop Bakugou and the thought of breaking off from everyone sounded nice. She was enjoying getting time to meet all of his friends but it was overwhelming.
Before they got too close she stopped to pull off the clothes that had been covering her bathing suit. Bakugou had already been in his swim trunks without a shirt.
Looking up she caught Bakugou staring, he looked away quickly with red cheeks.
“You’re allowed to look.” She teased. Bakugou looked back but his blush didn’t lessen.
He walked into the water and Harper followed. It was cool against her skin, a nice relief from the heat of the sun that felt endless. Bakugou continued further in but she hesitated when the water reached her knees.
“Are you coming?” He asked when he noticed her falling back.
“I- uh,” She hesitated. It felt childish, stupid even to be scared of the water. Bakugou was so strong, fearless there was no way her fear wouldn’t be seen as foolish. Instead of answering she caught up with him, the water now at her waist. She could feel her anxiety raise but she pushed it down. It’s fine, she thought.
“When I was little my family would always come to the beach.” He said as he watched the waves move. The water would move past them, crashing onto the sand behind them. “My dad would take me out into the water, he taught me how to hold my breath and swim under the waves before the crashed. It became a game for me.”
Harper smiled at the fond look on his face.
“I never liked being in water that much, it makes it harder for my quirk to activate but I always loved our beach trips.” He said.
“That sounds really nice.” She said. “My family didn’t go to the beach very often. We lived pretty inland, we would go to the lake or a river.”
She left out the part where she always avoided going too far in so she wouldn’t have to swim.
It seemed that life didn’t care for her hiding of important facts about herself, that or it simply didn’t care for her in general. Before she could reminisce more about her family’s summer activities a big wave swelled up.
Before she could do anything it was crashing down on her. Harper froze, closing her eyes and waiting for the impact to sweep her away. The water rushed over her, she hadn’t been able to hold her breath in time but an arm wrapped securely around her waist keeping her from tumbling with the wave.
As the water settled she coughed out the water that made it into her lungs. Opening her eyes she saw Bakugou looking at her concerned. He picked her up carrying her out of the water with hast before setting her down on the wet sand out of the path of the waves.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yeah,” Harper said still coughing. “I’m okay, I’m okay. I’m just not that good with water.”
“Why didn’t you say something we didn’t have to go in.” He said.
“I know, I just didn’t want to be a wet blanket.” She sighed.
“You drowning would be more of a wet blanket than wanting to stay out of the water.” He scolded. “What if I hadn’t grabbed you in time?”
“I mean I wanted to get in the water too, I just didn’t expect that wave to come out of nowhere.” She said.
Bakugou sighed, glancing out to the water. The sun was getting low in the sky and the sky was beginning to turn shades of pink and purple.
“If you told me I could have helped you more.” He said.
“Maybe we can try again, without the almost drowning this time.” She offered.
“Okay, just stay close to me and follow my lead.” He said.
Bakugou took her by the hand leading her out to the water. He leaned down for a moment in front of her hoping she’d understand what he was asking without him saying. Harper hesitated a moment before realizing it. She wrapped her arms around his neck, trying her best not to choke him, and she used her legs to keep herself from falling off his back. He easily stood up, walking further into the water. He made sure to time it right so they weren’t hit by any big waves.
He was quick and efficient as he swam just far out enough that the waves would break after them. He grabbed Harper’s arms, signaling her to let go so he could turn around to face her. He made sure he kept his hands on her so she didn’t feel like she would float away.
“Good?” He asked.
“Good.” She smiled back at him.
The sky was stunning, the motion of the waves bobbing them up and down gently was relaxing. He pulled her closer to her, one arm wrapped around her waist the other brushing her wet hair out of her face.
“It’s beautiful.” She said glancing at the sunset.
“It is.” He agreed.
“This is perfect, thank you.” Harper said, wrapping one arm around his neck. It was so easy floating in the water, keeping her close so she would feel safe. He felt honored that she felt safe enough with him to be able to enjoy this.
Bakugou didn’t answer but pressed a kiss against her lips. He had never considered himself a romantic man but Harper changed that. Or maybe she was simply the key to unlocking all of this softness he had locked away. She made him want to be a better man, not just in their relationship but in every way.
He pulled away breathless, staring into her eyes. He loved her so much but he wasn’t ready to say it out loud. Not yet.
It was nice to be able to hold each other and float in the gentle waves and watch the sun sink lower in the sky as the colors changed every moment.
“Bakugou! Harper!” Denki shouted from the shore. “Food’s ready!”
Bakugou let out a huff.
“Are you hungry?” He asked.
“As much as I’d love to stay out here, yes I am.” She answered.
Bakugou motioned for her to hang onto his back again and he made his way out of the water safely. He put her down once they were back on solid ground but he didn’t let go of her hand as they returned to where their friends were gathered on the beach.
It was nice to see his friend accepting Harper and it was nice to see her getting along with everyone. He knew it had to be overwhelming for her but she handled it so well. He was thankful that his friends were welcoming, granted if anyone gave her any attitude it would be the last thing they’d do.
A part of him wondered if she would be happy living here, with him. He knew that it wouldn’t be easy leaving behind everything that she knew, that she was comfortable with. But she got along with his friends, he could easily see her as a permanent part of his life here in Japan.
He shook his head. He couldn’t ask her to leave behind everything she knew, leave behind the friends she cared for so much. He wouldn’t ask her. He shouldn’t even be thinking about it right now, he should enjoy the extended time he had with her.
His friends had prepared food and had it set out on the table under the sunshade.
“Dig in guys.” Kirishima said gesturing to all the food.
They didn’t hesitate, grabbing plates and grabbing the food that they wanted. He waited back with Harper for most everyone to get their food.
“What do you want?” He asked her as he grabbed a plate.
“Oh, I’m not sure. I can get it myself.” She said reaching for the plate in his hand but he pulled it back.
“I got it.” He said.
Harper threw her arms up in surrender.
“Okay, whatever you say.” She said with a slight smirk.
Once he got both of them food he sat down near Kirishima and Suki, knowing that Harper was the most comfortable with them.
Midoriya and Ochaco were sitting nearby along with Mina and Sero. The group talked about different things. Bakugou was glad that they included Harper and she easily cracked jokes and fit in with the conversation.
As it got darker they started a bonfire easily thanks to Todoroki’s quirk and they all gathered around sitting down.
Bakugou sat on a towel, Harper resting between his legs and leaning back into his chest. He had been mindlessly playing with her hair as he watched the fire move and dance, listening to the conversation around them. That lead to Harper falling asleep in his arms.
“I really like her, she’s a nice girl, Bakugou.” Midoriya said from beside him. “I’m glad that you found someone.”
At times it was hard not to fall into old habits with Midoriya. Even now, after all this time and progress he made he still wanted to shoot a rude comment at the green-haired man. It didn’t help that his relationship was a touchy subject. Not that that meant anything bad, but it was still a tender thing opening his heart and his life to someone else. Much less having people comment on it.
“Thanks.” He said finally, using his self-control.
“Maybe sometime we can go on a double date!” He suggested.
Bakugou didn’t have that much self-control.
“Okay, beat it nerd.” He snapped.
Midoriya laughed at the comment, undisturbed.
“Really, I think it’d be fun.” He said. “Besides I owe her some signed merch for her friend. She’s hooking me up with a copy of her new book before release.”
Bakugou scowled at that. He was the first to read her book before anyone else, he didn’t like the thought of Midoriya getting his hands on a copy. Granted it wouldn’t be long before the whole world read it but he liked feeling special. His reasoning voice kicked in and offered that he would always be the most special since he was the first one to read it.
“Fine.” He grumbled. “We’ll set something up.”
“I can’t wait.” Midoriya smiled.
Bakugou spent more time around the fire chatting with his friends, but not so loudly that he’d wake Harper from her peaceful sleep.
As much as he hated to admit it, with Harper in his arms and being surrounded by his close friends his heart felt full.
He wished that the rest of his life could be like this but even though their relationship was firm so far they had so much to work for before they could feel secure in their future.
It hadn’t been long since they started dating officially but he couldn’t stand the thought of losing her. He couldn’t stand the thought of spending another moment without her.
Whatever they face, they would get through it. He promised that not only to himself but to Harper.
We’ll make it through.

AO3 Link if you want to read there
I removed a part of what Jessie wrote in her request because it’ll actually spoil the story for everyone else. I’ll add it at the end. I also changed a tiny detail and didn’t hit every single thing listed for plot reasons.

It’s Blue - Kuroo x Reader
Words: 2,697
“You should be our manager, Y/n,” laughed Kai as he watched the brown-eyed girl chop onions with Nanako.
“What? Are you kidding me?” replied Y/n to her classmate. “I wouldn’t be able to play volleyball then.”
Y/n and Nanako were both on the girl’s volleyball team. Nanako was their third year setter and captain of their team. She only came with Y/n because she had forced her to. Y/n told Nanako that she needed to learn how to cook, especially if she wanted to survive after graduating high school. So Y/n volunteered to help with the boy’s training camp during Golden week to teach her.
That wasn’t the only reason she had offered to help cook. The girl’s team didn’t get their own camp because their coach always visited family out of town during Golden week. But Y/n loved volleyball a little too much, so she told the boys’ coach that she’d help with the food if she could sneak in some practice during their training camp.
“Seriously,” said Nanako, “this girl works too hard.”
“How else would I get better?” asked Y/n.
“You already receive our serves and spikes really well,” commented Nanako. “Well, I guess we don’t have a lot of strong spikers in the first place.”
“By the way, Y/n,” noted Kai. “How are you not crying right now?”
Nanako had been tearing up and sniffing the entire time from chopping onions. Y/n, on the other hand, seemed fine. “Oh, that’s because
,” she started to say. “I just have a secret remedy for that,” she said with a grin.
“Pfft,” Nanako laughed. “There you go with your home remedies again, Grandma.”
“This one actually isn’t a home remedy,” she replied. “But it’s a secret.”
“Grandma?” asked Kai. “But you’re in the same year as me.” Nanako laughed at Kai’s comment. She explained that even though she was the captain of the team, Y/n would ‘mother’ her enough that she would call her mom. But the other first years thought of Nanako as the mom of the team. As a result, Y/n got the name grandma instead.
Kuroo and Yaku entered the kitchen to mix some more of their sports drink. But when Kuroo noticed Y/n, he stopped walking and stared at her. “Do I know you?” Kuroo asked Y/n.
“Seriously?” asked Yaku with a laugh. “Already using pick up lines? That one’s a lame one.”
“No?” replied Y/n. She wasn’t sure why Kuroo was looking into her eyes so intently. “I don’t think I know you.”
Kuroo sighed, rubbed his hair and walked away with his sports drink. When Yaku joined him, Y/n heard Kuroo telling him to remember to eat his veggies. She laughed at their dynamic as she continued to teach Nanako how to cook.
Y/n later learned that Kuroo was the only one on the team who knew how to do a jump serve. She was impressed that he was able to do one even though he was only a first year like herself. None of the girls on her team could do one either. So when the boys had free practice, she took the opportunity to pull him aside and ask him to practise with her.
“Are you sure?” asked Kuroo. “Yaku is the only one who can receive my serve well right now.”
“Yes!” she said eagerly. “We might go against other teams with strong serves so I need to get better.”
During that week, she asked him to practise with her every chance she got. Kuroo would scold her for overworking herself. She’d retort that he’d been practising a lot more than she had been because she would have to go and cook. But one night, Kuroo saw her up late, practising her receives by herself. He snatched the ball from her and held it above her head.
“You’re only allowed to have the ball back if you’re able to take it from me,” Kuroo sneered at her. Of course, she wouldn’t be able to because she was only 5 feet and 2 inches tall.
Y/n, getting frustrated, couldn’t think of a witty comeback. Then, she gave him a smirk, “It’s not like your receives are any good anyway.”
“Ha?”
“Why is the one who’s bad at receives preventing the one who good at receives from practising?” she giggled.
“Why, you
”
The two of them laughed as they continued to bicker with each other. When they settled down, she did end up encouraging him to practise his receives more. “I know that attacks look a lot cooler in volleyball, but even the small and seemingly unimportant parts of a body are actually really important,” she told him. “It’s like how we never notice how much we use our fingers during the day. But once we get a paper cut, it’s like it affects the rest of the body.” She smiled and continued, “It’s like a team. When one member of the team isn’t doing well, the whole team is affected. The opponents are always looking for holes to pick at.”
“Ugh
,” complained Kuroo. “I guess that means I have to practise receiving more.” The two of them sat inside the gym against the wall. “Kenma was telling me otherwise because I’m tall and a middle blocker. He said that magic users in RPG games need to put their skill points in intelligence. So similarly, I should be focusing my skills on blocks and quick attacks. That’s why we practised our time difference attack a lot.” He smiled at the memory of practising with him. “But I guess you’re right too.”
“Who knows,” she said with a giggle, “Practising your receives might come in handy one day.”
He smirked at her, “You’re pretty smart.” He rubbed the dirty blonde hair on her head as he got up from the gym floor. “Here’s my jacket,” he said as he gave it to her. “You look cold.”
She was surprised he had noticed that. But then again, it was rare for her to not be cold, even though it was the beginning of May. She blushed as he scolded for her to go to sleep. With the rub in her hair, the jacket, and even the scolding, it was hard to not interpret these actions as being affectionate. She got a bit frustrated with herself because she had just met him earlier that week. She already knew that she was starting to have a crush on him.
*****
After Golden week, the two of them continued to be close friends. Although they were in different classes, they would greet each other and chat whenever they saw each other in the hallway. She was in Kai’s class and Kuroo and Yaku would come and meet up with him before practise. One day, as Kai wrapped up his notes, Kuroo and Yaku sat down as they waited for him.
“I still don’t understand why you like dogs,” mentioned Yaku.
“I don’t have to like cats just because I go to ‘Neko’-ma,” answered Kuroo. But he froze when he started to feel someone playing with his hair.
“How does your hair even get like this?” asked Y/n. “It just sticks up without any product at all!”
Kuroo started to feel a blush form on his cheeks. With a sigh, Kuroo asked her in a serious tone, “Y/n, can you stop playing with my hair?”
Y/n quickly pulled her hands away and apologized. When her teammate called her to go to practise, she left the classroom, leaving Kuroo, Yaku and Kai behind.
“Is she on the volleyball team?” asked Yaku.
“Yeah, she’s the libero,” replied Kai.
“Really?” Yaku said, suddenly more curious about her.
“Oy! You’re not allowed to be interested in her!” said Kuroo.
“What? Why not?”
“B- Because she has long hair,” replied Kuroo. When the two of them looked unconvinced, he added, “Didn’t you think that other girl was cute anyway?”
Yaku and Kai laughed at his pathetic attempt to cover up his crush on her. “You obviously like her,” commented Kai. “And it looks like she likes you too. What’s holding you back?”
Kuroo sighed. “I don’t like her okay?”
“What? Are you not over your first love or something?” Yaku asked sarcastically.
For a moment, Kuroo didn’t reply. He got up and told them, “Let’s just go to practice.” As they walked to the gym, Kai asked Yaku if he had tried to talk to the girl in his class yet. Yaku got flustered at the thought of talking to her. Kuroo strolled beside them, trying to remember something from his childhood days. “I’m pretty sure it was blue,” he thought to himself as he sighed.
*****
Several summers ago, Kuroo’s dad was preparing food that they had brought to the beach. So Kuroo was sitting at the picnic table near the barbeque grill his dad was using. Looking around, he saw a group of people playing beach volleyball. Before he realized it, he had wandered away from his dad and stood beside the court to watch.
A volleyball rolled over to him. “Mikasa?” he thought to himself as he read the brand name of the ball.
A young girl with a long braid ran over to him, presumably to retrieve the ball. But as she approached him, he looked away, trying not to make eye contact with her. He still wasn’t very comfortable around other people.
But she still tried to look at his face and told him that she had seen him watching them. “Did you want to join?” she asked with a smile. When he didn’t answer, she said, “You don’t have to be shy. Even though we’re both just kids, my parents will make sure we get an opportunity to hit the ball.”
Kuroo finally looked up and saw her face. His mouth was open as he stared into her eyes. “Y- You look like my dog!” he exclaimed.
She burst out in laughter. “What?” she said. She wasn’t expecting that to be his first impression of her. “Is that a good thing?”
After that day, Kuroo kept asking his parents to go to the beach. He had fun playing volleyball with her family. They made him feel welcome even though he wasn’t very good at volleyball. Her dad even pulled him aside from the game and took the time to teach him the basics. “Place your feet shoulder length apart. Bend your knees,” he instructed. “Put your arms in front. Turn them slightly out to make a flat surface with your forearms.”
But those days had to end when Kuroo told them that he was moving to Tokyo. “What? You’re moving?” she said with tears in her eyes.
“Yeah,” he responded. “That’s where my grandparents are.”
She gave him one last hug before he had to leave. But she clung on him tightly and didn’t want to let go. Kuroo blushed at her gesture. He didn’t have many friends but she made it easy.
He was thankful that he met Kenma after he moved. Without him, he wouldn’t have tried volleyball again and would have stuck to watching volleyball videos instead. Kuroo wondered if he would be able to see her again if he kept playing volleyball. He thought that it shouldn’t be too hard to find her if their paths crossed again. After all, she had a very distinctive trait.
*****
Kuroo arrived at school one day to see Y/n being scolded by the principal. “You’re not allowed to wear sunglasses in school,” he told her. After she bowed to him in apology, she turned to walk down the hall. Kuroo found it odd that she was covering her right eye with her hand. He chuckled when she almost walked into a wall.
“You know you don’t get any depth perception when you walk around like that,” he teased her.
“Oh! Hi, Kuroo,” she said as she smiled at him. But her right hand didn’t move from her face.
“Are you seriously going to walk around like that all day?” he asked.
“Well, I can try, can’t I?” she replied with a giggle. But when Kuroo saw that she was going to hurt herself if she did, he attempted to pry her hand off her face. She was relentless though.
“Why are you being so stubborn?”
“Gah! Stop it Kuroo!”
He stopped - only because she had used both of her hands to push him away. Y/n stood a few feet from him and glared at him as she caught her breath.
Kuroo’s eyes grew wide as he stared at her. “It’s blue,” Kuroo commented to himself. Y/n quickly covered her eye again. “It’s blue,” he repeated in disbelief.
Kuroo took a step back until his back hit the wall and stared at her. He then started to laugh at himself at how ridiculous the situation was if he had understood it correctly.
“Has your right eye always been blue?” he asked, trying to process everything.
“Yeah,” she simply replied.
“I’m guessing you’ve been wearing colored contacts to cover your heterochromia iridium?”
“Yeah.”
“Why?”
“Because someone made fun of me,” she said. “Having different colored eyes isn’t exactly common.”
Kuroo vigorously rubbed his hair out of frustration. “So you mean if it wasn’t for some jerk, I would have asked you out a while ago?” he muttered to himself.
“Huh?”
“What?”
It took Kuroo a moment to realize that he just admitted to liking Y/n out loud. He started to panic and think of an explanation, but Y/n quickly latched on to what he had just said.
“Wait, what?! What do you mean?” she exclaimed as she freaked out. “Explain right now!” she demanded.
“Explain what?!” he yelled back. “That you’re my first love and that I’ve been looking for you for who knows how long?!”
Y/n was speechless. Kuroo knew she had a crush on him. But he had been so hung up over his childhood crush that it prevented him from allowing himself to fully like her back.
“I was worried that I only started liking you because you reminded me of my first love,” he explained. “But I guess I don’t have to worry about that anymore.” He then smiled at her, knowing that they had some catching up to do.
It took Y/n a while to fully process what had just happened. She didn’t remember Kuroo initially, but as he explained, she started to remember bits and pieces. Kuroo told her not to worry about it. She just left a big impression on him. She blushed in response. She never knew that what she thought were just small gestures of kindness would make a big impact on someone’s life.
But it wasn’t until Kuroo told their story to Kai and Yaku how big of a difference it really was.
“So wait a minute. She has long, braided hair
”
“She has a Mikasa beach volleyball
”
“Your dog also has different colored eyes
”
“And the two of you met at a beach during the summer”
“
”
Kuroo tried not to show his embarrassment, but they had totally seen right through him.
“That’s 4 out of the 7 things you like,” Kai chuckled at him.
“And I thought that you kept choosing what I didn’t like just to spite me,” Yaku laughed.
“Oh! But, he started playing volleyball because of her, so wouldn’t that be 5 out of 8?”
“What are they talking about?” asked Y/n.
“Nothing,” he said, as he quickly pushed her away from them.
“Hey Y/n! Do you like eating sweet curry?”
“Fish?”
“Japanese cuisine?”
“Shut up!”

Extras
Y/n didn’t cry while chopping onions because she was wearing contacts. I don’t know if this actually works in real life, but just pretend it does for this story.
Kuroo is still concerned about his bedhead but doesn’t mind as much because she likes playing with his hair.
Their teams call them grandma and grandpa. :D It’s not surprising because Yaku called Kuroo an old man in first year and Kuroo considers everyone younger than him as youth or kids.
Coach Nekomata returns from retirement around their second or third year and is pleasantly surprised that the players are still good receivers even when he wasn’t around. It’s all thanks to her and Kuroo. (I haven’t read the manga. Just going by the wiki.)
Her advice about a team being like a body gave Kuroo the inspiration for his mantra - much to Kenma’s dismay.
@jessie4098‘s full request:
(Âœ) hi, I’m jessie, could I please have a matchup? I have long dirty blonde hair, that I constantly braid, I’m pale with freckles on my nose. I have one blue eye and one brown eye, I usually wear sunglasses, I used to get made fun of because of my eyes. I’m not that tall, I’m only 5’2” but that doesn’t stope me from playing volleyball. I’m a libero for my volleyball teams, I play for three teams, and just for fun I play beach volleyball with friends. I do well in school, and I volunteer a lot
(2/2) I am the grandma of the friend group, i know many weird home remedies, I love hard candy, I give good advice, I can sew, cook, I love books, and I’m always cold. I love both old music and new music. I have pretty bad insomnia, when I can’t sleep I will practice volleyball till ungodly hours. I’m a hard worker, and stubborn. I can make friends with anyone. I’m caring and loyal to my friends. I love affection and playing with peoples hair. Im a bubbly girl, who loves volleyball.Thank you!
I hope you enjoyed it. If you did, please like, reblog or send me a message. :) Let me know if you want to be tagged for the next match-up (whenever I actually do that.) Check out my other stories too. :)

Heyyyyy, so about that doc with the AU ideas.... (Please feed me I yearn for content)
im obsessed with the idea of monoma and aizawa being related to afo lol. you only see like 3 quirks in the whole series that are based on other quirks - what i would call ‘meta quirks,’ that would only have any function in a world of quirked people. so ofc these 3 quirks have to be related:
afo decided to have a bunch of kids, to see if he could make noumus out of them which retained their brains after being given a bunch of quirks. he impregnated a bunch of women lol, but he kept tabs on them. as soon as the kids turned 4 and presented their quirk, they would be kidnapped by the doctor and brought into the lab. most of the kids had quirks based on quirks (seeing quirks, stealing quirks, copying quirks, erasing quirks
) and are various ages. aizawa, monoma and midoriya were some of them, but aizawa got saved by his badass mother when he was still a kid, so he was already gone by the time midoriya and monoma came around. the two of them manage to escape while afo is still recovering from his fight with all might, and since monoma’s mother was killed by afo, he goes to live with midoriya and his mother. they go off the grid and run away from afo. in this au midoriya is quirkless, up until he meets all might and it goes as usual. umm could be from monoma’s pov, and include monoshin because that’s cute. basically after the sports festival, afo finds monoma again and in the summer camp they kidnap him instead of bakugou. (the reason why aizawa was never caught or taken back by afo is because he won the whole sports fest and became too famous/well protected to be easily stolen back - since monoma didn’t make the fight rounds, he’s a perfect target. afo only knew the kids by their quirks, he never actually met them, so he doesn’t realise that midoriya is one of his kids as well because mido has a quirk now.) anyway so after they kidnap monoma back, he and midoriya spill the beans to the ua faculty, aizawa has a midlife crisis over the fact that he now has younger siblings, and afo continues to be a dick who doesn’t pay child support.
just some sweets stuff as well:
Christmas cake: Japanese slang for an unmarried woman over 25 who is considered undesirable as a wife, in the same way that Christmas cakes are considered useless after Christmas Day.
Good thing for Jirou, she never cared much about being ‘desirable’ to the opposite sex anyway.
-> a momojirou story about jirou’s 26th birthday and momo reassuring her that she is the best gf ever, and that she loves her very much. pro hero gfs <3
*
like. the trope of aizawa adopting shinsou? well what about instead
hawks adopting tokoyami?? maybe he comes from a super religious family and they tried to exorcise the ‘demon’ from him, protective services put him in the foster system, and he ends up with really shitty foster families, and his quirk is considered ‘dangerous.’ but then our boy hawks swoops in and goes ‘u know what? i’m not letting my intern get disrespected like this’ and adopts him. obviously hawks is still young himself (22 i think), so he’s not very good at the whole parenting thing, but miruko helps him out. he becomes an older brother figure for tokoyami. gen found family fluff ensues
*
bEST JEANIST AS A TEENAGE FASHION ICON
thats it, thats the idea
*
HAIKYUU AU - no quirks. just volleyball
so the ua boys volleyball team is on the rocks. its been pretty much non-existent and turned to dust at this point. but, it once own the nationals.
izuku’s mum runs this second hand / antique / trinket store, and izuku helps out sometimes. one day, he finds some old sports tapes in the back and watches them - they’re of the year when ua was at nationals, and their striker, yagi toshinori, inspires izuku to play volleyball.
bakugo is on the school team and he threatens / bullies izuku not to join, so izuku has to train on his own. he learns shitty technique, but he ends up building some muscle by clearing out the beach.
izuku gets into ua, and when he goes to apply for the volleyball team, ofc bakugo picks a fight. the other first-years who join the team are todoroki, kaminari, shinsou, kirishima, and iida. there aren’t any second years - they all got expelled - but mirio and tamaki are on the team as third years, and nejirou is the team manager. their teacher sponsor is a new teacher this year, and it’s left ambiguous. there’s the whole ‘get over ur differences if u want to join’ thing, and then woohoo! team!
turns out their teacher sponsor is aizawa. he drags in the now-retired-due-to-injury yagi toshinori to be the coach. when aizawa went to ua, the volleyball team was too small to go to any tournaments - he’s determined to turn it around and let these kids live their dreams.
some ‘canon? what’s that?’ ideas:
just a really wholesome story about inko and mitsuki being besties. met in middle school or something, supported each other through everything
just gals being the best of pals...
or i mean u could make it gay, that’s always an option (and have izuku and katsuki grow up as actual bros, and actually be friendly to one another? what a shocker) - like, the two of them get sperm donors and are pregnant at the same time so the kids can be twins or something. and ofc you’d expect katsuki to be closest to mitsuki and for inko to be closest to izuku, but then to make it a TWIST add some great bonding between inko + katsuki and mitsuki + izuku!! i’ve never really seen any mitsuki + izuku bonding in stories before, so that’d be pretty cool
*
izuku gets hit by a villain’s quirk during a big villain attack when he’s 7, turning him part-cat. the villain dies during the attack, so they can’t erase his quirk’s effects - they’d have to surgically remove the ears and tail, or get an expensive quirk specialist in. izuku decides he likes being a nekomimi, so he keeps them and gets being part-cat officially registered as his quirk. he has better senses and agility, and he can talk to cats now i guess. also his eyes are cat eyes. he doesn’t pass the ua exam, so he goes into the general department instead, but he does really well in the sports festival and gets transferred into the hero course with shinsou. (this is all just because i need a valid excuse to make izuku have cat ears.)
some ‘future au’ ideas:
all of the pro heroes merch lines - deku’s ’t-shirt’ shirts, tokoyami’s edgy emo/goth hoodies, iida’s ingenium trainers, bakugou’s popping candy chocolate, todoroki’s own brand of scar cream, HAGAKURE’S CAMO COLLECTION OMG the possibilities are endless
---i made hagakure’s camo for her bday drawing
(i use a strikethrough so i know which ideas i’ve used or posted anywhere. i think that once i put an idea on the internet, it’s probably free reign, so if you want to use any of these for fics or art go ahead. i’d just appreciate it is you could link back to me haha)
5 years after graduating from the General Studies department of UA, Hitoshi opened his own agency. As a private detective.
By the time he’s 25, he’s settled in and relatively comfortable with his career choice. So when his work phone rings one day and he’s still half-asleep he easily opens with, “Shinsou Detective Agency. Before you ask, I do not investigate cheating spouses or missing dogs and I do not screen potential employees for companies.” He paused. “I’ll investigate missing cats, though.”
The person on the other end took a harsh breath, like an almost-laugh, and responded gruffly, “Hm. Good to know if Jelly ever gets lost.”
-> aka shinsou is a PI and aizawa contacts him for help on a case. aizawa never sought out shinsou after the sports festival, being too busy with 1-a’s insane antics, and so shinsou went on to never become a hero. maybe he’s also a vigilante on the side? idk. anyway so yeah aizawa gives him temporary permission to use his quirk during the case. they investigate, blah blah, the point is that afterwards aizawa gets shinsou a licence and takes him on as a sidekick (the same way ingenium offered to koichi in vigilantes)
i have new ideas on the daily. this doc is just growing
keep in mind, i have given to you here only a few of the shortest ones. there are several huge paragraphs of full-au ideas (like where izuku has a quirk, and the entire story follows canon)
these are, ostensibly, ideas for fics that i never write because i’m lazy. but some of them i do end up using for art or comics, so... yeah. most of the comics i’ve posted were originally just little scripts in this doc. an example:
yamada and reformed!shirakumo are walking together, with coffees
shirakumo: so then i - oh, your phone’s wringing
(yamada’s ringtone is the nyancat song, and the contact name is ‘daddy’)
shirakumo: haha, you still call ur dad ‘daddy’? i thought you got over that in high school (taking a sip on the coffee)
yamada: (answering the phone, keeping eye contact with shirakumo) hey, shouta, what’s up?
shirakumo: (spits out coffee)
—- made this a comic on tumblr
damn this post is longer than i expected
whelp, i hope you liked it

With the college au, Deku also plays football. I would bet money that he does. It can even go with the story line of the actual anime bc most football players are known for being really big and he’s just a babie. He’s the kicker and he’s on a full ride for football and academics. I bet Bakugou is going to school on an academic scholarship but is so talented that he also made the baseball team. Kiri is just a straight athlete. Kaminari definitely plays soccer with Todoroki, and Sero does track
part of me wanted him to be a baseball player so we could get that good deku x kacchan rivalry going, but i could see him being a kicker!!! i was thinking maybe even ultimate frisbee, since that’s a thing now lol. or golf, since it takes so much concentration!!
bakugou is there on a full ride academically and yeah, he made the baseball team because the coach found him playing catch on the green with kirishima and saw the potential and scooped him up. he’s the guy you think you’d hate to be partnered up with for group projects, but really he shows up to class early, always takes notes, and never asks questions unless he’s trying to correct the teacher. he’s always doing his assignments on time and isn’t afraid to tell the other students that they’re wrong. he’s the best worst roommate because he’s always in bed by 9 pm, up by 5 am, and hates for there to be any dirty dishes left in the sink.
kirishima is there for athletics, that’s all. he wants to go pro. he actually needs bakugou to tutor him in most topics purely because he’s training all the time and isn’t as smart as he tricked the college into thinking he is. he’s a sweetheart, though, would give you the shirt off his back. is always doing anything he can to make it up to bakugou - buying him school lunch/dinner with scholarship money (even though baku has his own funds, he lets kiri do this because he knows what it means to have pride), trying to give him the in with girls, etc.
i could see kaminari playing soccer or volleyball, actually!! or ultimate frisbee!! he loves to be outside in the sunshine, and the beach volleyball team is the perfect way to do that (and check out girls too). and sero as a track star, oh yes!!!! sprints and the long jump for sure.

Suns Out | Shigabaku | T
Chapter 2 of Tuesday Rates! The obligatory Beach Episode ft. Bad Lifeguards and Bad Drown Victim etiquette. Read it Here or under readmore
Tomura really didn’t want to be here.
“Don’t be a party pooper,” Toga says, rubbing sunscreen along her upper arm. “It’ll be fun.”
Dabi agrees between inflating puffs of the large beach ball. “What kind of friends-” puff “-would we be-” puff “-if we just let you rot-” puff, Tomura’s eyebrow twitches “-in your room again all summer?” Happy with the size, Dabi caps the beach ball.
“You guys aren’t my—hey!” Dabi snickers, catching the ball after bouncing it off Tomura’s head.
“Sure man, whatever you say.”
They are at the beach and Tomura really really doesn’t want to be here. Or outside, in general. Especially not with people. Oh how he ached to be back in his air conditioned room with his blacked out curtains and computer. No, instead here he is with sweat prickling and sand sticking to his skin, sitting on a hot beach towel under this oppressing sun. Tomura glares at the wide-brimmed sun hat at his feet that Toga had given him like it personally dishonored him. Those heathens didn’t even let him have his console either.
A sunscreen bottle is tossed to him which he responds with tossing it right back harder.
Toga catches it and shrugs, bagging the bottle in Dabi’s tote. “It’s not our fault if you get burnt!”
“Hm!”
At least they had a beach umbrella. Tomura plans on not moving from this spot.
.
Huh. It’s hard to think but there’s someone...talking? He can’t hear what they’re saying, sounding too distant and muffled to make out the words from the garble. The voice begins getting desperate, pitch heightening as it continues babbling. Tomura feels really tired. Maybe he’ll try to understand later...when the pull of his lids don’t feel so heavy—
“—LIVE GODDAMN IT!”
Tomura shoots up because what the fuck, was he just slapped?! His cheeks are stinging, he's doubling over, mouth full of salt water and seaweed. Through his hacking, he vaguely hears a Kacchan
from a very dismayed voice, followed by a hysterical laugh from whoever this Kacchan is.
“There’s no such thing as going overboard, Deku, he’s alive, ain’t he?”
“Yeah, but—”
“But, what? I just saved his life, I’m a goddamn hero.” What the fuck. Tomura wipes his mouth. The two look at him. The blonde, Kacchan, is the one to say, “I’m your goddamn hero.”
The green haired, Deku, one jabs Kacchan in the ribs. “Please ignore him! How are you feeling? Any chest pains, tingly sensations?” He doesn’t wait for Tomura to respond, instead turning to Kacchan to say, “Go get him a towel! He must be freezing.”
Kacchan huffs and stands, leaving to presumably get a towel (Tomura could hear mild curses from under his breath as he stalks away) while Deku turns back to him. “Don’t mind him, he’s just a bit crabby, is all. He means well. I’m Midoriya and that was Bakugou, by the way, we’re the lifeguards on duty,” he says with a mild laugh. “You almost drowned on us!”
Midoriya had an arm around him, Tomura belately realizes as he rambles on some more, probably to keep him sitting steady. When he tries to lean away, Midoriya removes his arm, apologizing, “Sorry, sorry, shock can be unpredictable. Are you feeling any better?”
Now that he mentions it, Tomura thinks, wetting his lips, his throat feels like absolute sandpaper and he still feels somewhat faint. Not that he would admit it, but it's the thought that counts. Plus, even if he wanted to respond Well, yeah, I feel like shit, a towel is thrown over his head. “Oi, he probably drank half the ocean. Let the guy rest,” says Bakugou. Tomura snorts quietly, pulling the towel around his shoulders. “I couldn’t find any extra towels so I gave you mine, you better give it back.”
“I nearly drowned,” Tomura replies, voice croaky and just barely audible, as he takes the water bottle Bakugou offers him. He twists it open, dripping as much sarcasm as he can into his words, “and you care about this? Some lifeguard you are.”  He takes a sip from the bottle. God does his throat hurt.
The way Bakugou’s face scrunches in irritation almost made Tomura laugh but instead, he hides his smile behind another sip. “Listen asshole, I can put you back in the ocean and laugh as your pasty ass tries to save itself. You should be fucking thankful.”
Before Tomura would retort, a couple voices call out for him. Dabi and Toga. They must’ve been playing one rigorous game of volleyball because they’re covered in sand and sweat.
“We were wondering where you went,” Toga says, putting the volleyball under her arm. “We thought you ran away!”
Tomura scoffs but Toga quickly ignores him, opting to look at the other two with him, particularly at Midoriya. She steps over Tomura’s legs, looking gleeful, to get closer. “Oh, hello! Are you guys lifeguards? What happens to our poor little Tomura-chan?”
“Toga,” the ‘poor little’ Tomura warns. Dabi laughs and helps him to his feet.
Toga continues to ignore him. Midoriya gives a nervous smile as he makes a pointed effort to look at anywhere but at Toga as she skitters closer and closer. “Uh, we-er, he saw your friend struggling to swim and pulled him to shore.” At the he, Midoriya had made a half effort wave to Bakugou’s general direction, who huffs, not paying them a dime of attention. “If it weren’t for Kacchan, he could’ve been a goner!”
Toga nods, not listening one bit. It’s Dabi who snorts at the story and upends Tomura’s head. “Nice going, idiot. Have you thanked him yet?”
Tomura scowls and huffs. While that he was a little thankful, he wouldn’t admit it to that asshole of all people. Dabi seems to get that and instead chooses to ruffle his hair with a chuckle.
Bakugou announces his leave with annoyance.
“I should get going too,” Midoriya said not far after, probably thankful for this out from Toga’s insistent chatter, as he follows after his partner in ocean surveillance.
Dabi throws his arms over Tomura’s and Toga’s shoulders, saying as simple as possible, as Tomura watches them go, “Welp, at least you didn’t scare them away.”
Tomura eyes the arm around him. “I hate you both.”
Dabi laughs as Toga sighs. “Don’t worry, you’ll see your new boytoy again.” Tomura wasn’t sure who he was referring to, Toga who was looking dreamily after Midoriya or to him.
Actually, he doesn’t want to know.
After that, Tomura sticks to their designated area for the rest of the day. Lucky for him, Dabi was lenient enough to give him back his PS Vita console because the almost drowning victim deserved at least some slack. The towel was over his head now, covering himself from the setting sun that refused to shine over the beach umbrella (and he wouldn’t be caught dead with that sun hat). He’s tapping the keys harshly, the fighting sounds rolled on the highest setting, and he’s so incredibly close to winning, and—
“Oi.”
His thumb slips on the toggle stick, breaking his ultimate combo, and watches in disbelief as Game Over title sequences flash across his screen. He stares at the syncopated message until the device just falls out of his hands as the little loser jingle rings out on loop. He puts his face in them instead.
“Uh...hey dude.” Oh yes, the reason for his failure. The words chip out from Tomura’s mouth, each stop full of as much barely controlled anger as he can possibly fit.
“What. Do. You. Want.”
Whoever it was standing behind him shifts on their feet, the sand softly crunching beneath. At some point, his console powered itself off and it’s then the person finally states, voice awfully familiar, “I said I wanted my towel back.”
Oh, it’s him. The crappy lifeguard. “Just take it,” Tomura laments into his hands. The towel resting over his head and back is swiped, but instead of the sun heat hitting his pale back, Bakugou’s shadow saves him. “While you’re at it, throw me back into the ocean too. I can’t handle this loss..."
Bakugou snorts. “Jesus, dude, it’s just a game. Just do it again.”
“It’s not just a game,” he quickly retorts, raising his face from his hands to shoot a glare over his shoulder. Bakugou has a hand on his hip, towel thrown over his shoulder, as he stands looking unimpressed as Tomura speaks. “It was a speedrun. I was so close to beating my records and then you had to come here and
” scare me is something Tomura would never admit, even if his life depended on it. Except Bakugou is laughing because fuck Tomura. “...ruin it,” he finished, instead, turning back around.
However, Bakugou doesn’t take the hint and doesn’t leave. Tomura thinks he’s never hated a person as much as he does right now. To add salt to the wound, when he tries to further his point of wanting to be left alone by picking up his console, the fucking thing had the audacity to blink the red battery light and power off once again, completely dead. Tomura groans as he drops the thing again.
“There. Now you have my attention because the world is awful and hates me. What do you want?”
Bakugou laughs at his pain. Jeez. “Deku told me to go see how you’re doing—”
“Fine,” Tomura interrupts.
“—cause he’s scared of your freaky friends.”
“They’re not my friends,” he replies out of habit, but the corner of his mouth quirks up. Good to know normal people are scared of them, maybe they’d be left alone more. “Don’t you have an ocean to watch?”
“Shifts over,” Bakugou answers. “I needed my towel back before I left.”
Tomura makes a half hearted wave to the towel in Bakugou’s possession with a ‘now leave me alone’ implied, but just for extra zing, because he feels festive, he says, “There, you have it. Now leave me alone.” and turns back around to slump over his knees to be left alone to his utter and complete misery.
Except, the cool shadow covering his back doesn’t retreat. Why isn’t it retreating—wait is he still there, he can’t be that stupid— “Actually
” the shadow that will not be named because Tomura no longer cares, “there a bonfire later. You should come.”
His ears are working right, right? Like, he heard what this guy said, right? Not having any post-almost-drowning-delusions right now, right?
Tomura turns around yet again just so he can witness his own sanity possibly failing him. Bakugou looks at him expectfully, where Tomura can only think Wow, we have the same eye color. “So?” Bakugou asks with a raised brow.
He puts it rather eloquently actually, answering, “Uh.”
A beat passes.
“Did I break you? Did I just break this nerd?”
If anyone asks, this redness in Tomura’s face is from sunburn and sunburn only. Oh he can already hear Dabi’s snickering and Toga’s gushing as he clears his throat, wetting his lips, looking somewhere decidingly not at this rude lifeguard who he begrudgingly admits saved his life. “Uh,” Tomura says, “are you—? Are you being serious right now?”
“Yes, you loser.” Tomura can already hear the amusement in his voice. He has to be fucking with him.
But

Well...
“Yes?” He said tersely. Then quickly adds, “if it's not lame or anything, I can
 I can go.”
Bakugou snorts but, when Tomura looks at him again, he’s smiling.
Okay, maybe beach day wasn’t that awful of an idea, afterall.
--
OMAKE:
“See,” Dabi said as he pats Tomura’s sweet little sunhat covered head as he pulls the brims down to hide his very ‘sunburnt’ red face. “I know my friends better than they know themselves. You totally had a thing for him.”
“Shut up,” he mutters dejectedly into the straw.
Dabi only laughs because he knows under that hat, theres a dumb smile plastered on there.

BNHA Modern Gang AU
*I got bored on a car ride and kind of got overexcited imagining and planning out this AU inside my head so uh, yeah. I should also note that I ultimately decided they would not have quirks in this AU*
General Stuff: - I’ll be referring to the gang as Gang X for now - The kids would go to school and everything like normal kids but after school would have gang training (physical and in weapon use (instead of having quirks)  - I want all of the major events of the show to still be incorporated in the AU, in some way - And I want all the kids to have the same personalities and relationships, because its not a BNHA AU if all the characters have different personalities (also I love my babies so) - Everyones “Hero Names” in the show are now their gang names - Instead of striving to become the #1 hero, they’re striving to eventually take over and become the head boss of the gang (at least Bakugo, Deku, and Todoroki are)
School: - So I was imagining the kids would go to a nice private school paid for by the gang - Also a major sports school - It would have mostly normal kids but have 2 classes (in each grade level) filled specifically with the gang kids (like the hero course; the normal kids would be based off the general track in UA) - There are rumors that the school may have gang ties, but no ones ever really been able to prove it - The school nurse (they call her Recovery Girl because it seems like she can take any injury in 15 minutes flat; she even takes care of broken bones and major injuries) and the principal (Nezu; not sure what would be unique about him yet, as he obviously can’t be a mouse in this one) and the gang-class teachers are all aware of the ties to the gang and are in it  - So to properly encompass and justify Class 1-A and Class 1-B’s relationship, I was thinking both classes could also be in sports(maybe volleyball, baseball or basketball(require a lot of  teamwork) but anything would probably work)?(it would be mandatory as physical training and to strengthen their bonds) - I can’t decide whether I would have Class 1-A be varsity and class 1-b be JV of the same sport or both varsity of different sports.
Support Course/items: - So.... this wouldn’t be an extra class physically in school, but the kids training to work on support items would go to the same private school - Hatsume is still the prodigy - Support tailors weapons and sometimes clothing/other stuff to fit specific people  - Like they can tailor a specific gun to fit your hand, and can lower how much the gun kicks. They can do the same for knives, tailoring them to be the perfect length and weight for the user, as well as fitting perfectly in their hands. This goes for all weapons as well
“Gang Training”: - This is basically training to be able to be a competent gang member (most kids that get into the private school end up being higher ups) - They do basic physical training (I mean in hand-to-hand combat it helps to be strong, but also to handle the kick from any gun) but also with basic weaponry - The guns they use for training look, feel and have the actual kick of the gun they’re using but only actually shoot paintballs (Mr. Aizawa is a tough teacher but it’s not very rational to kill off all of your students lmao) - They train with all kinds of guns and ammunition, to get a feel for what each one is like and what they like. Aizawa requires them to train with all anyway though, as he believes you should be able to pick any random gun off the ground and shoot it with perfect efficiency and aim.  - There’s safety measures for swords and knives too, but I haven’t trained with those so idk what those would be lol
All Might: - I was imagining he would be the boss, or head of the organization, since he’s #1 hero (at least in the beginning) - Like in the beginning of the show, he is secretly sick from an old injury and can only fight for so long before he starts coughing up blood.  - He’s still revered as not only the best gang leader ever but also one of the most amazing fighters the underworld has ever seen - But, as he gets older he still needs to find a worthy successor, as he’s definitely not immortal - Believes the boss should still be actively involved in the gang, fighting alongside his men and while some people think it’s foolish, everyone respects and likes him more for it
All Might & Deku: - Obviously, Deku is still his secret chosen successor (or the one he wants to succeed him anyway but it will, in the end, go to the best candidate no matter what) - Deku was (distantly), probably through his father who’s in America, related to Gang X. His grandpa told him about it before he died, and all about All Might, the most impressive man in all the underworld, and has wanted to be just like him ever since - Soooo......I’m not entirely sure about how this part should play out, but I’m thinking maybe Deku was sick? And just couldn’t afford the really expensive procedure? (I’m pretty sure in the show Deku is middle class? So we’d keep it that way) - He by chance meets All Might and asks if he could ever be like him, even with his sickness, and All Might says no - Not sure what would go on to change his mind, but something happens, and All Might decides to pay for Deku’s hospital bills, heal whatever was going on, and personally start physically training him. Probably would make him clean up the whole ass beach still lmao - After the “entrance exam” (the physical part which happens after the standard school written at a secret location), Deku gets in by the skin of his teeth
Endeavor&Todofam: - uhhhhhhhhhhh........ - So he’s always wanted to be gang leader, but has always been behind All Might - He’s even tried duking it out with the boss a couple times but never wins - Not sure if I would make him head of the second most powerful branch of the gang or second in command - Either way he still not-so-secretly hates All Might, although he does grudgingly respect him - Wanted to become better than All Might, not get the top spot from All Might weakening, so he’s still pissed when All Might has to retire and he’s technically the boss now  - So, I haven’t been able to decide what Rei had that Endeavor wanted(since no quirks) but I still want it to be a fucked arranged marriage. Maybe she came from “good bloodlines” (like notoriously strong and smart /or people, whether her family was arranged in gang stuff or not) or maybe she was just very pretty and when she refused him, he literally bought off her parents? - Still raised Touya and Shouto specifically to be All Might’s successor - Touya still wasn’t good enough for some reason and something happened to him (weak bones maybe?) and he’s still dead in this AU (or is Dabi whatever the truth really is) - Rei still had a psychotic break and burned Shouto’s eye with boiling water and is in a hospital
Top 10 Heroes:  - So I want the top 10 heroes to either be the leaders of the 10 branches of the gang, or the top 10 members of the gang (they have a council or something)
Work Studies: - So in my old high school we were allowed to have a work study class, where we left campus for that hour and worked somewhere of our choosing, - Work studies were a big part of character development in the show so I’d like to keep those if possible - To make things less suspicious, work studies are required for all students (I mean let’s face it of entire classes all had work studies and others didn’t it would be weird). Also, since it’s a nice private school, I can totally see where they’d want the kids to go out and have “real world experience” before leaving high school - I would probably keep the fact that first years typically don’t have work studies (our school didn’t let freshman have them) but they’re trying something different this year - Of course the gang classes would be sent to various gang members (I think they’d still get to choose who, but idk maybe it would be more interesting if the teachers chose for them? - The general classes would go to whatever work study of their choosing, probably based on the careers they want to go into
Sports Festival:  - Literal school sports festival  - Limited only to those school students, i think - Gang members interested in work studies would come watch and scout - Would it be as internationally famous as the UA sports festival? i dont know tbh
Summer Camp & The Wild Wild Pussycats: - Not sure if here they would be purely working on physical ability and maybe martial arts or on weapons and stuff too - It would depend whether or not the Pussycats knew about the whole gang thing(or if they were involved in it) or were just regular physical trainers with no connection or idea about the gang thing - Kota......I think I would have his parents die in a gang-related accident and, obviously, hate anything to do with gang activity (which is normal anyway). If the Pussycats were not gang-related I’m not sure how the whole Deku-saving-him thing would go down but oh well - The League of Villains would be attacking still, to kidnap Bakugo (for whatever reason)
League of Villains (Gang Y) & All for One: - In a world where there are no “heroes” and “villians”, they obviously can’t go by that name (I mean I guess they can but I feel like that would be kind of stupid and odd) so we’ll go with Gang Y, for now - All for One can’t be immortal in this one, so maybe the gang name just keeps getting passed on from successor to successor? Or he’s just stupidly old(like 100 years old and still kicking ass)? - So, in the underworld, obviously no one is really “good” so to speak, I assume Gang X would still be involved in basic drug deals and stuff like that, but think Gang Y would be involved in some really fucked up shit. Like slave trade stuff maybe? Blood money? - Gang X and Gang Y have been top rivals since both of them started (around the same time) - Gang startup story would be the same as the beginning of the AFO and OFA rivalry in the show (2 brothers with different ideals) - AFO still ends up in jail after the legendary battle in Kamino Ward  - So......I’m having trouble with Shigaraki’s backstory since quirks aren’t a thing. Like obviously it would still be a horrific accident but.....yeah you get the point (haha it sucks trying not to spill manga spoilers) - Toga’s backstory would pretty much be the same I think - Spinner would have some deformity or something (since he can’t be a lizard) justifying his backstory - Twice is hard for the backstory thing.....but I would still have some traumatic event that caused him to do the contradicting voices thing - Nomu’s would maybe be like, brainless humans? Still look like flesh and blood humans but essentially be brain dead and only do what AFO tells them to do? Not sure but I’d still like them to be the result of human experimentation. - In Kurogiri’s case.........not sure tbh we’ll work on it  - Speaking of Kurogiri, he is like, get away driver/escape artist of the millennia. It’s like him and the rest of Gang Y just disappear into thin air. Even the police have tried to track him but? he’s just....gone? He’s still team mom, by the way, and really the only reason the Gang Y survives tbh (Credit to @tears-of-an-otaku )
Stain:  - Goes after and kills gang members (especially higher-ups) that he deems “corrupt” (ones that sit back and make underlings do all the work; rapers; betrayers; ones that are only really in it for the money; etc) - Puts chemicals on his weapons that immobilize his victims; The blood-type thing is still the same (works longer/better on specific blood-types) - Iida still goes after him for disabling his brother, and Deku finds and follows him, and Todoroki ends up coming as back up. - They still don’t get the credit for defeating him “for safety reasons”
Chisaki & Eri: - From a rivaling gang - Not sure how they find out whats going on but they do - Eri, at the very least, is still severely abused, but it would be cool to be able to incorporate using her blood to make some kind of drug  - Not really sure about much in this story arc tbh it’s so quirk-based it’s kind of hard to incorporate without them :/
The Licensing Exam: - Another sports festival, but this time with other major sports schools - Gang members come to scout as well  - In this one though, the other kids are just competing in a sports festival, but the teachers of the “gang classes” are also watching to determine whether or not their kids are ready to take on more “hardcore”/serious work studies (or even internships), where they would be able to experience what it’s actually like to be in a gang a little more in depth and practice real world fighting (and of course their special skills) - Special thanks to @tears-of-an-otaku for helping me figure this one out!
The Kids: - Like I said I want all the kids personalities and relationships to be the same - Jiro is still super into music and can still play (at least a little bit) a bunch of instruments; She has unnaturally good hearing too.  - Bakugo obviously can’t explode things with his hands anymore but has a dangerous interest in explosives (he was actually recommended to join the Support team but he rudely declined); still tells everyone to die on the (way too) regular; also still has the best reflexes in the class - Deku is super strong. Our sweet boy doesn’t look it but is strong af - Koda, still quiet as ever, is super good with animals (but afraid of bugs) - Momo is super good at designing and creating stuff and is very inventive(can always find a solution to a problem); She was also recommended to help in support but she (politely) declined; Still team mom - Iida’s a great runner (probably best at long distance but good at jump about anything)! Back in middle school, he was an absolute track star, but now-a-days with school, his class sports, and gang training, he doesn’t have time for track as well :( ;Still class president and team dad - Kaminari is still our lovable dumbass but is really good with electronics and wiring anything.  - Shinsou obviously can’t actually mind control, but he’s a super smooth talker and can convince almost anybody to do anything for him, so it can kind of seem like he controls people.  - Kirishima is an icon when it comes to defense training, he can block almost anything. He also never seems to get bruises. The rest of the class lowkey hates him for it because while, at the end of the day, they’re covered in bruises, Kirishima’s got maybe one (but usually not even that). He dyed his hair because he thought it made him took tougher and less boring - Aoyama is still into the ridiculously shiny, which is horrible for stealth practice, but he has this trick where he (maybe with a bracelet or something? Or a belt bc of his iconic belt in the show) can blind his opponent with the light reflecting off the metal and go in for an attack in that moment. It’s surprisingly effective.  - Oijiro may not have a tail, but he still excels at martial arts.He even rivals Bakugo (he might be able to win if Bakugo played by the actual martial arts rules that Oijiro was taught but he won’t) - Sugar makes Sato really energetic really quickly! (and for some reason makes him focus better). He’s still a super good cook and baker - Shouji still wears a mask all the time (he has a medical condition with his mouth that’s kind of gross and tends to scare people). He “talks with his hands” using sign language! He’s been teaching the rest of the class, as Aizawa said it was a very useful skill to have, especially in a situation where they need to be quiet but still communicate. - Hagakure, for whatever reason, is amazing a stealth missions! She’s somehow really good at blending into the background and even Jiro can’t hear her when she walks (unless she’s really focusing on it). Top of her class in it, actually.  - Mineta still isn’t that good in actual battle but is really good at simple immobilization (sorry the only thing I could think of for him even a little bit related to his quirk). - Ururaka (while not as strong as Deku), is surprisingly, incredibly strong. She can pick almost anything up and make it seem like the thing’s totally weightless (even when she’s actually struggling, something Deku can’t do) - Sero is the master of Duck tape really good at fixing stuff! It seems like he can fix almost anything; Him and Momo team up a lot when something breaks (which, in Class 1-A, is surprisingly often *cough* Bakugo *cough*); (Sorry, couldn’t really think of anything for him either but tape=fixing things? maybe?) - Mina is really into chemistry, specifically corrosives and hazardous mixtures. Her and Bakugo once teamed up after school and tried to make something - Aizawa said if they ever teamed up to do anything in the chemistry lab again they were going to be banned from it; Mina still has pink hair - Tokoyami has a pet raven that follows him everywhere-literally everywhere. It was a problem at first, but the school eventually decided to let Tokoyami keep it as long as it wasn’t making a mess anywhere and not attacking students (everyone else is lowkey mad about it like why does he get to keep a pet? Nezu tries to pass it off as an “emotional support bird” but everyone knows that’s bullshit); The bird (whom Tokoyami’s emo ass named Dark Shadow for some reason) can actually attack on cue! Actually, he kind of constantly has to be watched otherwise he might attack someone on the random (it’s happened; he seems to pick up on Tokoyami’s emotions somehow and if Tokoyami gets mad well.....; He has in particular had trouble Aoyama and all his sparkly things); The bird can actually send messages too! Tokoyami refuses to say how or why he trained his bird to do this but since no one expects such an old fashioned way of sending a message, it’s extremely useful for high secrecy messages (and packages; actually the actual gang has used it a time or two, a fact Tokoyami is secretly proud of). (Credit to @agaxso) - Todoroki is, not quite an expert, but has a weird amount of knowledge on arson and burning things (not sure why a gang would really need a skill like this except to burn bodies beyond recognition but Endeavor specializes in it so it must be useful somewhere); He also has an extensive knowledge of using  polyoxacyclobutane mixtures(liquid nitrogen definitely and maybe some other things?) to freeze things at whatever temperature (I think he’d probably shoot bullet-like things out of a modified gun; Freezing the target when it hits. Here’s a link explaining basically how polyoxacyclobutane works); He has practice with the modified gun from training with his father, but his mom was the one that originally taught him how to make and use the bullets properly.(Credit to @agaxso) - Monoma can do anything almost perfectly after watching someone else do it once. Unfortunately, he has a really horrible memory so he only retains the information for like an hour then has to watch them do it again. Still an annoying asshole - Kendo is tough as hell! Specifically has really tough hands/knuckles. The One Punch Man of class 1-B, she is literally known for being able to knock people out in only a punch or two. She once smacked Monoma and he had a wicked bruise on his cheek for 2 weeks. She still maintains that she “didn’t even hit him that hard” - Awase is an amazing welder! He was another candidate for the support team, but after some consideration he declined - Tetsutetsu, like Kirishima, has ridiculously tough skin that never bruises, and has amazing defense - I don’t really know enough about class 1-B to finish this unfortunately - Aizawa and Vlad actually put special time aside for the kids to practice and hone their specific skills and learn how to put them to use in battle. After all, you should use everything you have in your arsenal in real battle, and unique/special “skills” can be extremely useful in battle and often pack the element of surprise and can easily but you above whoever your fighting, (especially if they don’t have any special attacks)
Soooo......if anybody would like to write out this AU for me and help fill in the blanks I would love you forever and also probably owe you my life because I have absolutely fallen in love with this AU. Also let me know if I missed anything or you have ideas for the stuff I couldn’t fill in and I’ll put it in (and credit you of course lol) @todorokitops I know you’re a pretty well known Tumblr fanfic writer so......know anybody who might be up for the challenge?

Bakugou the Bodyguard - Kacchako-ish Fic
Prompt: Bakugou knew the girls from his class were no pushovers, he could admit at least that much. So, when they suddenly came to him with a weird request, he decided to sit back and observe.
It was peaceful. Fucking finally after all the chaos the past week.
They had barely escaped with all their limbs intact, Recovery Girl had worked her aging ass off making sure none of them kicked the bucket before they hit the age of fifty. That, and a few days of time out of school, and the class of 1-A felt like they wouldn't collapse when they took more than a few steps outside.
It had been a tough battle, the stupid Nomus had been the worst though, even Bakugou had a tough time dealing with one, when a whole swarm came at them, he was glad the pro heros had gotten there just in the nick of time.
Bakugou rubbed at his forearm, now fully healed, but still feeling the phantom pain after one of the Nomu nearly dislocated it, the only thing preventing him from twisting the bone had been Aizawa kicking the monster away from him. Bakugou wasn't a wimp, but in that moment, with his arm hurting like hell and his body pushed to the brink of exhaustion, he felt a lot weaker than he was used to, like a small ant surrounded by large humans stomping around him.
It had ben fucking terrifying, he just hoped they've dealt with all those things. He hadn't heard anything from them since, so he assumed the pro heroes were either still investigating or just cleaning up the trash.
Bakugou stiffened, pencil falling onto his open homework when he heard a plethora of footsteps approaching the closed door of the living area.
There were muted whispers from multiple people and Bakugou arched a brow when he heard a squeak and the door flung open, revealing nearly all the girls in his class.
What the fuck?
He grimaced at their pitiful state, everyone sporting bandages or plasters of some kind. Recovery girl could only do so much, while her healing powers were great, some injuries needed time to heal, especially if she'd run out of energy after healing the hundredth patient that week.
It was round face that stepped forward, the girls gathered behind her in a circle, “Um, Bakugou, sorry for barging in here like that but, we
we wanted to ask you something.” She bit her lip, fingers nervously fiddling.
He could practically taste the discomfort in the air, something was giving him a bad feeling, “Yeah, what? Spit it out, round face.“
It was Yaoyozoru who stepped beside Uraraka and spoke up, decidedly more confident but still cautious, “We were wondering if you’d accompany us to the beach today.”
The room fell silent, Bakugou just staring at the girls of his class as if they’d all grown second heads or collectively lost their brains.
What?
“
Huh?” the blond stared, dumbstruck, bling rapidly before he shook his head, “And why would I do that?” he crossed his arms, glaring at the group suspiciously. Why would he go with them to the beach? They generally avoided his company, except for pink cheeks, racoon eyes and earjack.
Yaoyozoru bowed respectfully, “We
we’re still injured from battling the Nomus, Recovery Girl hadn’t been able to fully heal us
” her timid countenance grew more determined, “However! We don’t want to idly sit by and waste our time we have for training! The beach is always full of rival schools, especially boys, we’ve always managed by ourselves, but
I’m afraid we would be too injured if the beach is full of them today.” She swallowed and Bakugou sensed the discomfort in the room increase tenfold, judging by the looks of shame and guilt on the girl’s faces when they looked off to the side.
So, that was it.
They were harassed by rival school guys lounging around on the beach.
He knew the girls from his class were no pushovers nor fragile in any way, fighting Uraraka at the Sports Festival and seeing them fight first-hand proved that. To come ask him for such a favour must have taken a lot out of them.
Still, he was curious, “Why ask me? I bet shitty Deku or Kirishima would help out.” It was odd, he hadn’t seen anyone of the guys today except grapeshit, maybe the others were out training?
Racoon eyes sighed behind Uraraka, “Don’t you know? The boys all either went home to visit or to camp for training and lessons.”
Ah, right, there had been something Kirishima had been telling him last night, but Bakugou had only half listened.
That explained why he was seemingly the only guy here.
Yaoyozoru looked uncomfortable as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear, “And uhm
we
we didn’t want to ask Mineta so
”
Bakugou snorted, he could imagine why, the little shit never missed an opportunity to be the first one to spy on the girls. He would have a field day at the beach with them.
Bakugou turned back to stare down at his homework, pencil scraping against the sheet, “Tch, I don’t have time for your shit today.”
Uraraka looked ready to argue but Yaoyozoru shook her head, leading the girls out of the room, Mina, Jirou and Uraraka sending disappointed looks towards Bakugou before they closed the door behind them.
Silence settled into the room again and suddenly, Bakugou felt his blood boil unnaturally.
He glanced at the clock.
It was nearing late afternoon, when the students would be finished with classes or extracurricular activities.
The beach should be crowded by now.
The pencil snapped in two, splintered pieces of wood scattering across his homework.
The girls cautiously moved towards their usual spot, already dreading their decision as the beach was even more crowded than usual, it didn’t go unnoticed how even the girls from other schools generally kept to the farther ends of the beach, away from the rowdy boys who were fighting nearer to their spot.
Uraraka noticed her classmates’ hesitance and steeled herself, moving to the front and cheering loudly, “Hey guys! This is our time to shine! We can finally get stronger and show everyone what we’re made of, I’m sure everything will be fine!” she pumped her fists in the air excitedly, seeing some of their faces brightening.
Mina grinned widely and fist bumped the air too, “Alright! Let’s get started girls!”
The group cheered in unison, catching the attention of several of the males.
The first few minutes had been fine, employing their quirks in small and weaker amounts as much as they were able in their still bruised states while trying to play volleyball at the same time. Uraraka tried using her gravity quirk to her advantage but found the nausea to be too strong, so she refrained from using it, even Yaoyozoru, Jirou and Mina didn’t use their quirks much.
And suddenly, a large shadow covered Uraraka.
The shorter girl turned around curiously, looking up to stare at at least eight towering guys smiling down at them, “Hey, mind if we join in, ladies?”
Uraraka felt her heart speed up in fear, Yaoyozoru beside her stiffening in apprehension, “Excuse me, but this is private practice for our classes.”
The guy that spoke looked at her, a leery grin on his face, “Oh, really? Maybe we can teach you girls a few things, huh? Whatcha say guys?” the other behind him hollered in agreement and suddenly, the group had gotten bigger, now more and more males joining in.
Mina tried to produce her acid slime, but it wasn’t anywhere near enough to scare all of them away. Jirou’s quirk was useless as she couldn’t channel the waves easily in the damp sand from yesterday’s rain.
Tsuyu tried moving slowly to the side, attempting to offer Uraraka leeway by assaulting the first guy, but another one showed up to intercept the frog girl, “And where do you think you’re going, little frog?”
“Ribbit?” Tsuyu frowned, moving back towards Hagakure, Mina and Jirou.
Uraraka swallowed, fingers sweating when the grins on the boys’ faces grew wider, “This isn’t good, none of us are in any condition to fight, especially not all of them! I can’t use my quirk without throwing up my lunch, Momo can’t create anything larger than a ball and the others are in even worse conditions.” Uraraka spread her feet, remembering Gunhead’s training, “I can’t take them all down, but maybe the few I will are enough so the others escape. Come on!”
Mentally giving herself strength, Uraraka shouted what sounded like a battle cry as she attempted to launch at the first guy in her way, however her own shout was vastly overpowered by the booming howl of a very familiar but unexpected voice beside her.
And suddenly, just like that, the group of boys before them blew apart in a earsplitting explosion, cries of pain and shock ringing out from the large amounts of smoke covering the beach.
Uraraka stood frozen, until she slowly turned her head to the side. She didn’t even have to look far because he was standing almost next to her.
It was Bakugou.
“B-Bakugou?” he was dressed in black swimming trunks with an explosive design, sunglasses nestled into his spiky hair, a beach towel wedged in his arm.
The blond looked at her, “Tch, what? Thought I would leave you bunch to get training done alone? Well, forget it pink cheeks.” Uraraka’s face flushed, watching his jaw work as he spotted another group warily watching them, “Oi! What are you looking at?! You want a piece of me, shitty extras?!” almost immediately, the boys turned around and dispersed.
Jirou smiled, “Thanks for the help, spiky!” she grinned in delight when Bakugou gave her a sharp glare before turning on his heel and scaring off a guy from his spot, setting up his own towel on the sand and settling under the parasol, arms crossed behind his head, sunglasses perched on his nose.
“Watcha staring at, huh?! This isn’t the zoo damn it!” Bakugou barked at them in annoyance, nose flaring when the girls started giggling.
Yaoyozoru placed a reassuring hand on Uraraka’s shoulder, “It seems like even someone like Bakugou values friendship more than he lets on, he did come after all.”
True, it even surprised Uraraka a bit. While she knew he respected her, she hadn’t been sure if he would agree to this, especially considering Bakugou wasn’t known to be very social.
Her heart flooded with warmth, hand clenching her chest as a smile played on her lips.
Bakugou glared and barked at anyone in a five mile radius, steam coming out from his palms in warning whenever there were a few dumb daredevils even trying to cross his newly established territory.
Bakugou almost exploded right off his seat when he saw a figure approach, but quickly settled when he realized it was Uraraka, “You’re blocking the sun, pink cheeks.” He was sitting in the shade to begin with, but it never hurt to re-establish his dominance.
Uraraka didn’t seem peeved at all by his comment, instead the smile she directed at him was even brighter than the damn sun itself, “I just wanted to thank you Bakugou, for being here and doing this for us.” She bowed, her cheeks a pink hue and smile as wide as her face, “You can come and train with us anytime, you know! I bet you’ll have a hard time beating us!” she beamed a full on sunshine smile at him, stronger than any of his explosions and jogged off to join the volleyball game.
Bakugou’s eyes scanned the area of the beach he now dubbed as “his”. There were no more vermin around it, everyone giving him a wide berth.
Uraraka had one teammate less on her side of the net.
He was a sporty guy.
He could use more quirk training to develop his skills.
Bakugou grit his teeth.
“Uraraka, on your right!” the gravity manipulator made a move to dive toward the far right, the distance far too great to reach the ball in time.
At this rate, they would lose a point!
If only she could-
A blond blur rushed past her in a rush of explosions, slamming the ball and making it hit the other team’s field without anyone parrying it.
Bakugou grinned at her, a competitive streak in his eyes and wild grin, “Quit it with the snail pace, angel face or we’ll fucking lose!” he used his quirk to cover greater distance, assisting Yaoyozoru with smashing the ball to the other side.
Uraraka smiled, rushing forward to help Bakugou launch the ball over the net.
Thanks for reading everyone! Hope it wasn’t too OOC.

Hello lovely!! I request bakugouxreader (female) where the class has vacation on Hawaii and they're greated by the local girl (reader) and bakugou is all blushy cuz she is frickin cute. She gives them the tour of the island hang with the class when they go to the beach swimming, playing volleyball and at night her and some other girls make a welcome party for the heroes where they do the traditional dance (moana style) at the party bakugou finally has courage to come to her and confesses. Thanks
OK i needed to write something fluffy and colorful so YOU GET A FLUFF, AND YOU GET A FLUFF, AND WE ALL GET A FLUFF! (also I looked into it since I didn’t wanna tread into Samoan traditions or Hawaiian traditions even though they’re both part of Polynesia, and Moana is set in a sort of amalgamation of a lot of diff areas vs somewhere specific. but, since you specifically say Hawaii I’m gonna base some things off Lilo and Stitch if that’s alright since I’ve never been to Hawaii and I wanna try and be respectful of indigenous and native cultures)
Tumblr media
As soon as everyone stepped off the plane all Bakugo wanted to do was go to sleep with some peace and quiet. The flight was far too long, and being cooped up in a small area with his loud classmates with no escape wore on his absolute last nerve. The only good thing so far was the weather - hot and sunny, just how he liked it. Getting some rest was what he wanted to do, anyway
but Aizawa and All Might had other plans.
“Alright, listen up,” Aizawa called out over the mixture of tired and excited teenagers. “We’ll be going to the hotel to drop off your things, but after that we’ll be led around on a bit of a tour. If you get lost, it’s your own fault.” All Might sighed as Aizawa walked away, already starting to sweat in his all-black getup.
“Yes, he’s right, students. I know everyone’s excited for this small break we’ve been allowed, so let’s not take advantage of the opportunity to learn about new people and cultures.” Of course Midoriya nodded vigorously in agreement, and a few other people like Ashido and Kaminari cheered, but others were still waking up from the overload of new information, smells, and landmarks.
Aizawa and All Might led everyone towards the hotel, where a group was waiting for them in preparation of the tour. “Aloha, everyone!” A chipper voice called out to the group, grabbing everyone’s attention. “I’ll be your tour guide and translator while you’re here. We’re so glad to participate in this trip with you all. Hosting heroes in training and someone as well-known as All Might is very flattering.”
You looked about the same age as the rest of the students and introduced yourself and the two other assistants behind you. Most everyone paid rapt attention to who would be their guide for the trip, but Bakugo’s eyes were glued to your face more than anyone’s
and he had no idea why, all he knew was he felt weird and it pissed him off.
“Bro, you alright? Are you overheating or something? Is that even possible because of your quirk?” Kirishima’s voice beside him snapped Bakugo out of whatever bizarre trance ensnared him.
“Hah? The hell are you talkin’ about?” he asked angrily.
“Your ears are red,” Kirishima stated before turning back to the girl still talking at the front of the group. Bakugo nearly blew the handle off his travel bag at that. He was tired; yeah, tired and annoyed. His sleep schedule would be messed up for a few days and they were five hours ahead with the timezone change. Yeah, that was definitely it. Nothing else.
Everyone had roommates, and his was, of course, Kirishima - the person he tolerated most easily. If it had been Kaminari, who he knew was a loud snorer or god forbid Deku he would have thrown a fit. After putting up their bags and changing clothes everyone headed back downstairs.
The odd feeling from before had gone away, but as soon as they walked downstairs and met you again for a tour around the area Bakugo felt weird all over again. Not knowing made him frustrated, but what he did know was following your smile around all day didn’t sound all that bad.
On the tour you pointed out landmarks and explained history of buildings and structures, at one point stopping by a food stand selling poke and explained that, while it shared a few similarities with sushi, there were definite differences. Bakugo had always been a good student, having no trouble memorizing and recalling facts, but even now while on a “study vacation” he made sure to remember everything you talked about. You scaned over the group to make sure no one was left behind, and every time you eyes landed on him, he’d freeze. His odd behavior didn’t go unnoticed by a certain red-head.
During the tour you also made a point to speak to everyone individually, wanting to know more about their quirks and life in Japan. Eventually you sauntered up to Bakugo while your assistants led the way. He normally ran warmer than most, but even under the blaring sun he felt unusually hot all of a sudden.
“You’re
Bakugo, right? The one with the yellow hair said you aren’t the nicest person, which was in itself kinda mean
but I’m sure that’s not true. I can tell you’re just serious, is all.” Words tried to come out, but his mouth fell agape before he closed it with a clack of his teeth, knuckles white stuffed into his pockets.
“Pikachu is an idiot,” he blurted out. It took you a moment to understand, but when you did your laugh echoed in his ears.
“Because of his hair and quirk! Do you have nicknames for all your friends?” Bakugo didn’t know if you was just being polite or if you actually cared, but either way he was Bakugo fuckin’ Katsuki and he wasn’t intimidated by anything.
So he spoke, and you listened, and only once did Sero try to trip him with some tape which promptly ended the conversation.
When the day was over and everyone filtered back into the hotel with stomachs full of delicious local food, all anyone wanted to do was shower and sleep. “Get some rest, we’ll be setting off at 9 in the morning. Meet down here, don’t be late,” Aizawa ordered as the class fought over the elevators, everyone wanting to get up to their floor faster than everyone else.
“Bakugo,” Kirishima whispered in the darkness of their shared room. “You asleep?”
“Not anymore, fuckface,” he groaned. “What is it?”
“I knew you were acting kinda off today
but I think I’ve figured out why.” All Bakugo wanted to do was sleep, but if Kirishima had an answer to the problem he’d been having all day, he’d listen.
“Whatever just tell me.”
“You totally have a crush on (y/n), our tour guide girl.” Whatever Bakugo expected to spill out of Kirishima’s shark-toothed mouth, that definitely was not it. He was about to argue - loudly - and possibly wake up everyone on their floor, but the bed was unfamiliar and the sheets smelled like weird soap and all he wanted to do was feel energized for the next day when they would go to the beach.
“Shut up,” was all he managed to get out before turning his back towards Kirishima and closing his eyes once more. “Stupid
” Definitely stupid.
Too bad for Bakugo the next day proved just as frustrating as the first, only now Kirishima’s late night words ran on repeat in his head like a broken record. “Crush? I don’t have a damn crush,” he mumbled to himself while sitting on the beach, watching Tsuyu swim laps easily around everyone else in the water while Todoroki made makeshift snowcones to alleviate people from the heat.
“Bakugo?” A familiar voice came from his right, and there you were, hovering over him with a concerned look. “Why aren’t you out with your friends in the ocean? Sometimes the waves can be dangerous, but today it looks perfect for swimming.”
He swallowed the lump in his throat, none the wiser to someone keeping an eye on him from the opposite side. “Water interferes with my quirk, so I stick to dry land.” It was true, so it wasn’t really an excuse
though it still felt like a poor explanation.
“Hmm, I see. Still, I don’t want you to miss out on anything - oh! Volleyball! No water involved, perfect!” Without waiting for an answer you grabbed Bakugo’s arm and yanked him over towards a volleyball net where Shoji, Uraraka, Ojiro, Ashido, and Sato were playing. This? This he could do - plus he could show off a bit in the process.
Kirishima watched from his own beach towel, plotting on how to get his friend to tell the cute tour guide how much of a sap he really was.
When the air turned chilly and the sun had set, everyone gathered round a bonfire on the beach while (y/n) and another group got together to perform a traditional dance for the class. All Might was enjoying himself thoroughly on the first vacation he’d had in years, leis around everyone’s necks as the light of the fire shifted on dancing limbs and concentrated faces.
Bakugo couldn’t take his eyes off you, leading the group with deliberate and practiced moves in the firelight. Once again Kirishima noticed Bakugo’s unwavering stare, and nudged him when Aizawa wasn’t looking.
“Say something to her later,” he whispered. Bakugo just furrowed his brows.
“Don’t tell me what to do.”
“Didn’t think you were such a coward, man.” Uh, coward? Coward?! Bakugo Katsuki was certainly no damn coward. He could talk to her...and he would! FUCK IT HE COULD SAY SOMETHING LATER ON!
Kirishima knew that saying Bakugo couldn’t do something was the perfect way to get him to do it.
When the dancing was over and everyone sat by the fire to relax and eat the presented meal, Kirishima went and sat next to Kaminari, leaving a perfect opening for (y/n) to sit next to Bakugo.
Shit, he thought, paranoia hitting him finally. The hell am I supposed to say?
“Did you like the dance?” you said before taking a bite of food. “We practiced a lot before you all got here. I don’t think I messed anything up, but I guess if I did you wouldn’t really know. It’ll be our secret.”
“It was good.” He was so shit with words. You were used to his curt responses by now. “I didn’t wanna go on this trip. Thought it was a waste of time. I could be back home training, getting stronger.”
“Everyone needs a break, though...and you all have already faced villains, right? Taking time for yourselves isn’t bad.” You stared into the fire, and Bakugo cut his flaming eyes towards you. “Do you still wish you were back home?”
It took a minute for him to answer, mulling over his words while a hand fiddled with the flowers around his neck. “Nah,” he finally said, and he watched you smile. “It’s not total shit.”
You nudged him in the shoulder before finally looking his way. “I’m glad. I think you’ll like it here.”
And for once he agreed that you might actually be right.

Between the Boy and the Waves
A/N: @kodachi-rose requested a mermaid au and here we are!
Multi-Chapter
No quirk AU but with mythical creatures instead.
Characters/Pairing: Kiribaku, though so far of the mostly platonic kind. Some Bakusquad, some Dekusquad. Pretty much everyone will be featured ;p
Words:  3356
AO3
Summary:  It doesn't matter what he does; the ocean always seems to call him back. Even if it had a really fucking annoying voice.
Bakugou stood as close to the edge of the cliff as he could get without falling in, scowling down at the white sea foam colliding angrily with the rocks. He was angrier. He bet he was. He didn’t even know why the fuck he came. Curiosity, he guessed, but he regretted that now.
Stupid fucking Deku just had to run his stupid fucking mouth, didn’t he?
Bakugo fucking hated Deku, hated the way he to stick his nose into every little thing like it was any of his business, hated the way he acted like such a fucking wet blanket and then still thought he could stand up to him, hated most of all that no matter how mean Bakugou got, Deku still insisted on inviting him to shit with his gaggle of nearly-as-annoying friends.
They weren’t friends. They hadn’t been for years. He’d just tolerated Deku because he had to. Like he’d been tolerating them all today.
He’d only agreed to come because he hadn’t seen this place since old man Toshinori had closed it when they were kids, didn’t think he ever would until it came out that Half-and-Half knew the Yaoyo-whatever girl whose family had just bought the private beach.
It should’ve been good, he’d thought. Get in, ditch the losers, climb some rocks, walk along the beach, enjoy his own damned company.
He should’ve learnt by now that nothing was ever good when Deku was involved.
Bakugo bent down, grabbed a rock with both hands and hurled it into the water below. Watching it get swallowed wasn’t as satisfying as he thought it would be. He drew in a breath to shout, but that would only get their attention and no way in hell was he bringing Deku down upon him again. So he picked up another rock and threw that too.
Part of him expected the old man (who hadn’t even been old really, but big and blonde and loud enough to be old to them) to appear behind him.
‘Bakugou, my boy.’
He had always been ‘Bakugou, my boy’ to Toshinori, and he hadn’t minded that much when Deku was there too, always there, and was also always ‘my boy’. It hadn’t seemed to matter because the old man had been a movie star once and he was just that cool.
He had owned a beach and let all the local people use it as they wanted. He had taken the kids fishing on his boat, given them ice lollies, instigated water-fights, and taught them to play volleyball. He’d given Bakugou’s climbing crew permission to conquer the cliffs when he was there to supervise and never told on them to their parents.
At the time, it had been nothing but awesome. Now, the cliff seemed so much smaller, the beach emptier, the sea darker and colder.
Bakugou picked up another rock, drawing back his arm to throw it, then stopped.
‘Bakugou, my boy.’
A kind of hiss escaped the back of his throat. “Damn it,” he said softly but with feeling.
It had been everything a kid could want. And then fucking Deku had gone and pushed him too far.
He hadn’t intended for the piece of shit to actually fall in. He had just been going to scare him, make him piss his pants like the little crybaby he was. They had jumped into the sea from this rock all the time in summer and sure, it hadn’t been summer. But Bakugou and his followers were never pansies and hadn’t given a shit about the cold and if Deku had wanted to hang around with them then he’d told him that he’d have to suck it up.
Looking down, Bakugou could still see Deku’s nose and mouth disappearing under the surface, pale, gasping, disappearing, reappearing. It had been like he hadn’t even been trying. It had been like he hadn’t even known how.
It pissed Bakugou the hell off even now. If Deku had been able to actually fucking swim, like anyone who lived next to the goddamn ocean generally could, then none of it would ever have happened.
He launched the rock at the space Deku’s face had been all those years ago. The sun chose that exact moment to shine down into his face and he missed his shot, scowling down at the myriad of scars that decorated his hands.
If Deku had been able to swim, then Bakugou wouldn’t have had to jump in after him. Old man Toshinori wouldn’t have had to rush out to save them, wouldn’t have hauled Deku up first, wouldn’t have failed to get to Bakugou, and then

Everybody told Bakugou that he was so brave to try to save his friend. Nobody blamed him. Nobody blamed Deku. They blamed Toshinori Yagi, the man who owned the premises, who was opening it to the public and without hiring lifeguards.
It didn’t seem to matter that Bakugou had somehow been found unconscious further along the beach, the skin on his hands torn to shreds from grasping at rocks but somehow mostly alright.
The beach had been closed and he’d never seen old man Toshinori again.
And now thanks to Deku’s big fat fucking mouth, everybody else knew about it.
He hadn’t stuck around to see how they’d reacted. One look into Uraraka’s round face had given him all he needed to know. Pity and blame.
Well fuck them. Fuck it.
“Fuck!”
He picked up the largest rock yet and tipped it into the water, bare toes gripping the edge of the cliff. Much more satisfying.
He took a moment to watch the water underneath before twisting to pick up a bigger rock. The sound didn’t register as important at first, seemed just like a larger wave breaking against the base of the cliff. It wasn’t until his stomach lurched that he realised he was falling.
There was no time to react. Bakugou’s hand shot out but like Deku’s back, the rock fell away from him. His hands grasped nothing but air then-
Cold water, burning lungs, water buffeting him.
Impact forced all air from his lungs. Instinct made him drag in another, nose and mouth filling with water and salt.
‘Fucking swim, Deku!’
He kicked, propelling himself to the surface. He wasn’t six anymore; he was sixteen and Deku wasn’t drowning. Nobody was drowning. He certainly wasn’t drowning.
Deku’s arm wrenched from his grip, dashing his side against the rocks.
His arms broke the surface of the water, then his face. Bakugou Katsuki was a fucking fantastic swimmer and-
Gasping breaths, reaching, tearing, rocks slick with water and blood, no grip-
The salt was in his eyes, his nose, his mouth. He coughed and spluttered, throat burning as he fought the waves. This time, he did hear the crack from above him. Panic rose like salt and bile in his throat as the rocks hurtled towards him.
Toshinori wasn’t coming to save him.
-
Bakugou came to with all the reluctance of a Monday morning, somehow still exhausted despite having barely woken up. Consciousness came slowly and with irritation. Something had bothered him out of his sleep early. He had a killer headache to show for it and - there it was: he was fucking freezing.
He groaned, the sound too loud to his ears. His hand groped around him for the blanket. Instead, it slapped down onto something wet and slippery.
He flinched. The thing beneath his hand flinched too. Bakugou’s eyes snapped open. A hand pressed his shoulder down before he could register what he was seeing.
“Dude, dude, chill.”
The guy’s voice was slightly distorted, his face a blurry mass of reds and pinks.
Bakugou blinked furiously, muttering a vague, ‘what the fuck?’ as everything shifted into focus.
The sky, rolling clouds. His bed was fucking rocks? It hit him with all the force of one. Climbing the rocks, flinging them into the ocean, tumbling down, down, down. Then the shock of cold, the crack of stone above him, pain.
His stomach lurched.
Fucking Deku.
“You okay there, buddy?”
Bakugou’s head whipped around to tell the nosy redhead who must have pulled him out of the – churning, icy depths – fucking sea that he was just fucking fine, thank you, and to fuck the hell off or something. He was foiled as the action brought on a wave of dizziness and a concerned face seemed to blur and tilt off to the side.
“Dude.”
The hand on his shoulder steadied him. Bakugou closed his eyes, letting his head fall forwards as he took two long breaths. The ocean ceased to roll in his stomach.
His eyes opened onto a pair of vibrant red ones, bright with concern.
“You okay?” their owner repeated.
Bakugou stared him down, scowling. “I’m f-“
The words died in his mouth. His rescuer had smiled the moment he’d acknowledged him. No, not smiled, grinned, baring a mouthful of impossibly white, impossibly pointed teeth. When words and not vomit had left Bakugou’s lips, the hand on his shoulder had been retracted.
Bakugou’s eyes followed the movement, drawn by the light reflecting off strange jewellery dominating the guy’s forearm. It took until the hand had returned to its owner’s lap for it to sink in.
It wasn’t jewellery; it was scales. It hadn’t been a rock Bakugou had grabbed instead of the blanket he’d expected. It wasn’t a rock his hand rested on now. It was a fucking tail – a fucking fish tail. And the guy it was attached to was grinning back at him like he wasn’t some sort of grade A freak of fucking nature.
“What the fuck?” Bakugou breathed, staring between the tail and the guy’s impossible fucking teeth in disbelief.
“I’m sorry?” the guy said.
Bakugou scrambled to get his legs underneath him, eyes already searching the landscape for hidden cameras and giggling assholes waiting to leap out and tell him he’d been pranked. His hands curled into fists. Fucking Deku, had to be. More likely it had been organised by his shitty little friends but Deku was the cause, of course he was.
He was always the fucking cause. Bakugou was going to tear him a new one.
“Woah, woah, hey!”
Strong arms encircled him. Suddenly, he was being held against this asshole’s chest, his arms pinned at his sides. He struggled to free himself, kicking at the prosthetic tail the guy’s legs were hidden by. His nails scratched at hardened scales and did nothing to damage them. The guy didn’t even flinch.
“What the fuck!” Bakugou growled. “The fuck’s wrong with you?”
“I should be asking you that,” the guy said. “I saw you fall in the water. You got pummelled pretty hard before I could get to you.”
Bakugou seethed, icy rage welling up inside him. “I had it under control, fuckface. Now let me the fuck go. I have a fucking nerd and his shitty friends to obliterate.”
“Uh
 sure, sure, buddy.”
Condescending bastard. Without thinking, Bakugou rocked forwards, only to slam his head back into the asshole’s throat as hard as he could. Mistake. The guy let out a sharp shout of surprise, his grip on Bakugou loosening enough that he could use this opening to escape.
Bakugou barely registered the opportunity. A sudden explosion of pain in his skull drowned out all else. The world shifted, erupting into sparks before his eyes. The sound of the ocean rushed in his ears and like before, he was falling.
Fuck.
His stomach lurched.
A strong hand supported his chest, preventing him from falling face first into his own vomit. He could hear some pathetic cooing in his ear as another hand rubbed his back. When he was done spewing seawater and stomach acid onto the rocks, those hands gently pulled him back to lean against his captor again.
“Are you alright?”
Bakugou looked up into concerned eyes. Bastard probably thought he was just in this for some lame prank, hadn’t expected to almost be puked on.
“Fuck off,” he snarled.
“Hey man, that’s not very nice.”
There it was again. That fucking tone. Bakugou bristled, wanting nothing more than to shove this guy into the water and see what good that fake fucking tail did him them, but all his energy had left him with his lunch.
“I’m not fucking nice.” He wiped at his mouth with his sleeve, forgetting it was wet, cold and salty. “Just tell me who the fuck put you up to this and let me go home.”
At first, the guy just tilted his head to the side, eyes devoid of understanding like a puppy that just wanted to please. It occurred to Bakugou that this guy’s hair was just too red, too bright and too spiky. It hurt to look at. He had to squint.
He almost missed the way his eyes widened as the question finally sunk into his thick skull. He didn’t miss the sharp-toothed grin.
“Toshinori!”
Bakugou’s breath caught in his throat. For a moment, it stuck there, growing until it felt like he might suffocate. His strength returned with his rage. He gritted his teeth together, fixing the guy with a dangerous glare.
His voice was low, his body still. “What the fuck did you just say?”
The guy’s head tilted to the side again. “Toshinori Yagi,” he repeated, “said we should help each other out. And he would protect our people if we protected his. It was real manly. So when I saw you drowning, I-“
“What the fuck did you just say?”
Bakugou peeled himself away from the guy slowly, a strange clarity telling him not to be rash. Webbed hands reached for him, but something about the look in his eyes must have warned the other that if those hands so much as touched him, he’d rip them off finger by finger.
“Huh?” The hands hovered but did not touch him.
Pushing himself shakily to his feet, Bakugou glowered down at the guy. “Your boss sure is one sick fuck. Toshinori Yagi is fucking gone and if you want to know why then maybe you should ask your fucking employer since it seems he’s incapable of keeping his big fucking mouth shut.”
With that, he turned to storm off, find Deku and fucking kill him this time. The world shifted just slightly too far. Suddenly, it was tilting forwards. His foot slipped on the side of a rock and instead of helping him right himself, his legs gave way.
He fell heavily on his back, too stunned at first to do anything but breathe.
A shadow settled over him, bright red eyes boring into his own. The stranger’s hands fell either side of his shoulders, the fake tail resting against his leg.
“Toshinori’s gone?” Disbelief filled the voice. His face read like an open book, not a hint of deception. Bakugou didn’t believe it for a minute
Bakugou glared. “Move. We’re fucking done here. Tell Deku if he wants to fight me, he can fucking do it himself.”
“No,” the guy said. “You didn’t answer my question.”
He was frowning now. Bakugou didn’t give a shit. All he wanted was to go home and sleep until his head wasn’t splitting and he didn’t feel like crap. He’d have told the guy as much but he couldn’t give him the satisfaction.
“Do you have hair for brains or something? I said fucking move.”
“And I said no. Not until you explain.”
The realisation felt like he’d been plunged into ice. Bakugou shoved at the bastard’s shoulders. “You want a full fucking confession? Is that want you want? You wanna get it on film so fucking everyone knows?”
“I just want to know what you mean, man.” There was still no malice in the fake-merman’s eyes.
Bakugou saw red and it wasn’t just hair and scales. Ignoring the churning of his stomach, Bakugou bashed the asshole’s shoulder with his own, knocking him off balance. The world tilted dangerously but Bakugou didn’t let it overtake him, didn’t stop moving.
“Dude, I just wanna-”
Bakugou’s fingernails raked down the guy’s stomach. He was going to find the join where the prosthetic met flesh and he was going to rip it off. The ended now. He got his fingers under the top of a scales and pulled.
The guy broke off with a startled yelp.
Bakugou froze. In his hands were three crimson scales, each about the size of a thumbnail. Welling in the hole the scales left behind and discolouring Bakugou’s fingertips was blood. He took a sharp breath, the tang of iron hitting the back of his throat. Real blood.
“What the fuck?” he breathed.
The guy pressed a hand to the injured area, eyes flicking from himself to Bakugou in shock. Bakugou stared. This close, he could see veins patterning the webbed skin of his fingers.
“What the fuck?” he repeated, louder this time. The scales were warm and wet in his hand. His head throbbed painfully. “How did you- it’s not – there’s no way that’s fucking real.”
“Ow,” the guy said emphatically.
“Mermaids don’t fucking exist here,” Bakugou said, mostly to himself.
“They do,” said the guy. “But I’m not a mermaid. I’m a guy, for one.”
“Fucking merman then. What the hell?”
Bakugou’s head was killing him. He raised his hands to hold it, forgetting about the scales and grimacing when they touched his cheek. Angrily, he stuffed them in his pocket, out of the way.
“Hey, man, are you okay?” A cold hand reached out to touch his arm.
He shrugged it off. “Do I look fucking okay to you?”
“Nah, dude, you look terrible - but I mean
 can I do anything or
? You gonna be okay?”
Bakugou didn’t say anything. A moment later, something cold and slimy was pressed to his forehead. It somehow stank like the ocean and a stagnant pond had reproduced. He didn’t say anything, but the violent shudder that passed down his spine and the disgust on his face must have said it all.
“Kaminari says it’s good for fever. Maybe it’ll help you feel better until Tosh- someone comes to get you?”
Bakugou’s opened his mouth, sucking in a violent breath, ready to expel violent words. A clump of seaweed fell from his forehead into his hand.
A different voice echoed through the air. “Bakugou!”
Bakugou froze, his ire momentarily redirected. Squeezing the seaweed in a fist ready to throw a punch, he turned in the direction Half-and-half’s voice had come from. At least it was only his voice, not Deku’s. But if he was here then

His head whipped around to pin the fucking merman with a sharp glare, sparks momentarily obscuring his view. Was it some kind of elaborate prank after all? Frankly, Bakugou’s head was throbbing way too hard to be dealing with this bullshit.
Bullshit because, as his vision cleared, all he caught was the rippling of the water as black-tipped fins disappeared into it.
“What the fuck?”
Bakugou blinked, rubbing at his eyes. When he turned back around, Half-and-half was picking his way across the rocks, a familiar pair of shoes in his hand. Behind him, Bakugou could barely make out a blob of green that may or may not have been Deku, but he sent it a filthy glare just in case.
“Bakugou,” said Todoroki, with a little sigh. “You know, you shouldn’t leave your shoes at the top of a cliff like that
 Midoriya was very-”
Bakugou said nothing, eyes still scanning the water for any sign of red. Frowning, he closed his eyes and rubbed. It did nothing for the mammoth headache. It didn’t make the tail guy appear either. Pain spiked through his head, forcing his eyes shut again.
Had it even fucking happened? Or had he just hit his head that hard?
Fuck.
“You’re bleeding.” Hands cupped either side of his head.
Bakugou flinched. “No fucking shit,” he muttered, though he hadn’t noticed.
Half-and-half’s mismatched eyes bored into his own, examining him before drifting down to his cheek. Bakugou’s brain caught up a moment later – the merman’s blood still stained his cheek.

I hope you enjoyed ^_^
