Randomly saw your thoughts on Ateez's new album hope you don't mind me chiming in... but damn I agree so much! I know we're not completely alone in this but we're definitely in the minority I just can't help but feel very underwhelmed by their recent releases :( they used to be my number 1 group for a few years but now I don't even have them high on my wrapped because the whole the world series doesn't hit. I'd say movement was my fave even though I didn't completely love it. I feel like I have different ears because everyone's praising them left and right, the fandom keeps growing and good for Ateez ofc but I completely lost interest unfortunately :( I don't know what it is but their two recent albums have no replay value for me. I used to adore the variety in their music and while I like the instrumentals for the world series, the autotune, the repetitiveness, the songs' structure is so mehhh. Nothing is surprising to me anymore

And hard agree on Hwa's rap he's my fav and I didn't mind his rap previously but he doesn't sound good on Matz I'm sorry to say that, everyone's losing their minds and I'm like??? Anyways sorry for rambling I'm just a bit sad once again. And yeah, maybe next comeback... but I'm kinda losing hope if I'm being honest. I just wish I could enjoy the group as I used to and it sucks to be the odd one out who's just disappointed

Yeah. Yeah, they haven't been at their musically best lately. I'm thrilled about their continued growth as the top non-big 4 boy group, but I always find myself baffled when people say they became fans after listening to Fireworks, or Dune, or any of their other recent songs.

Edenary know how to make a well-produced album. By well-produced, I mean that you can tell they're experts at music production who don't rely on samples or lite-EDM to do the heavy lifting. Their intros and outros are proof of that. However, good sound production doesn't mean a lot to me if the song doesn't have a good center.

I'm always looking for a hooky prechorus, leading into a satisfying chorus with something that makes it stand out from your standard kpop fare. Bouncy did that, but Crazy Form didn't. That's the main problem: all of their songs are well-produced, but only a few of them have solid centers.

And look, not every song has to be anthemic like Treasure, or Wave, or Eternal Sunshine. Wonderland was not really anthemic, but it was still good because it achieved a sense of purpose: they're marching into battle. It was essentially a sea shanty, which was genius!

ATEEZ's recent material just feels like Edenary are flexing that they can do hiphop-style music without realizing that ATEEZ are not a group that are wholly talented at hip-hop. They're just not. They're pirates. They rough up and energize everything they touch, and Edenary are mirroring that by producing "powerful" music instead of letting them channel their energy into material that inspires or entertains, even if that's entirely subjective.

The new songs don't have heart like Answer, and they're not clever like Bouncy. They rely on the strength of ATEEZ's performance style alone and it's not hitting like it should. I don't mind autotune, but even I thought they went too far with Fireworks. You'd have to pay me to listen to that song outside of a concert. They deserve stuff that doesn't feel borderline braggadocios in its production.

However, I'm not an ATEEZ doomsdayist and they've bounced back more times than I can count + this album has a few really good songs. I don't expect ATEEZ to always make music I like, I just want them to make music that has heart and purpose again.

UGH. i love this video definitely one of my favs

⤏ okay. my fav mv director (who dominates this list) basically this video saved my YEAR. released late on but like. EVERYTHING this director does i am bound to love. working with seventsen for a while, they have a good dynamic, and the way he uses colour here in a specifically dark video is just??? genius??? ugh i love this video so much it’s perfect in almost every way.

⤏ sigh here we go again fav mv director. first thing, jihoon when all the lights turn on and illuminate him a bit more. this is continued throughout the WHOLE video can u believe the shot was made by turning on lights kpop groups take some NOTES bc vm project is PEGGING them at u rn. okay makeup room scene. the colours in this are HHHhh, this warmth we haven’t really seen as the brainstorming scenes are stark, and the recording and practicing scenes are cool toned. and. AND. the way they all mouth “because we’re carved in each other’s hearts” and turn their heads to the camera i CHOKED what a beautiful shot and just. amazing direction. basically, for the concept of this video, it is amazingly made. from the way it slowly transitions from performance shots in the practise room to shots where members focused on the camera like a real performance on stage. honestly how does jo beomjin nail EVERY song and concept thrown at him idk

⤏ okay so the first shot we get of the boyz is a one shot of their whole first verse. that is a 36 second long shot. and it doesn’t even feel boring. this music video is THE MASTER of continuous shots. solo shots for the boys are long and, if i can say this, perfect for fan creators that may make gifs, animations or artworks without blurry quick scenes. BY FAR the best shot in the ENTIRE music video (2:02 for reference) is a shot that starts as an aerial, showing a circular formation around haknyeon, it then cascades down, following him to ensure the intensity of his movements is well emphasised, it then falls down to straight on level showing the whole group before continuing to zoom to jacob, following his movements in leading the dance before finally cutting. this shot is 14 seconds long. i could talk abt so much but but i just. THIS!! OKAY!! a fantastic video. camera director needs some recognition.

⤏ colours colours colours!!! i especially respect with this video that although the white background dancing was blue toned, they took account of kevin’s red hair and added red accents to certain members clothing to even it out!!! ISNT THAT THOUGHTFUL AND NEAT!!! tbz have worked with a few music video directors since their debut, and i’m shocked at how consistent their videos have been accounting this. their directors ability to connect with the group is crazy, and they’re all perfect on filming dance scenes. WATER. water water water. now, this is a very cheap trick but an effective one, and something i LOVE seeing. dancing in water and spraying water on the ground for night scenes ALWAYS looks gorgeous.

⤏ this video. THIS VIDEO. okay, let’s get it out of the way, the colours in this video are actually gorgeous. the way the director (again, VMs jo beomjin) uses them is perfect, keep it unblocked, mix it with contrasting props and odd shapes, take the eyes OFF the colour, whilst still having the colour dominate the screen. clearly, my favourite scenes from this video is the white room with the yellow concentrated area where she dances, taking your eyes away from the odd colour placement and of course the scene where she’s on the field with the “mirror” “window” whatever. VM never fails to wow me with their flawless and nicely placed editing skills. the angle shots on the field scenes are just gorgeous. all the angles are gorgeous. ugh. T H I S V I D E O. the only think i dislike is the animated paper planes, they’re just unnecessary tbh sjsjsj

⤏ okay so this director did nct dream go too which didn’t make the list but STILL good anyway so new heroes. i think we ALL know why it’s here. imagine a music video so SIMPLE yet so stunning, using the old fashioned ways with lights, illusion, contrast, costume and good ol’ golden hour. the colours in this video are simply gorgeous, that much is clear, but the technique with the lights in the sheet thingy??? jesus christ. the way they shined off of his body even when they did shots without the sheet i was DEAD. the shirt man. what a perfect way of inveloping costume into your filming techniques??? the way it reflected all the light??? PUTTING HIM IN FRONT OF THE WATER WHERE IT WAS REFLECTING THE SAME LIGHT??? SIMPLE GENIUS. and then it goes from that the the GORGEOUS blue sky and like. all those scenes of extravagant buildings vs. shitty ones and WHOA. i love. i love a lot.

⤏ sm yet again. colours once more. you cannot deny the way colours are used here is amazing. like. oh my GOD the pinks the everything i’m in love shhixhaha. literally every set they used was gorgeous, the solo shots were gorgeous. the way the director used slowmo and the way they used props and costumes like i’m so. IN LOVE.

⤏ vm project yet AGAIN. so. you’ve all seen it so i don’t need to go too in depth but the CONTINUOUS SHOTS IM IN LOVE. we’ve seen from seventeen clap that jo beomjin loves using multiple people but it’s used so ELEGANTLY here especially with jinhwan omg i like, cried. the sets and shadows and colours and everything is just fucking. amazing. simply gorgeous. i’m so in love with this video.

Feel like getting into Hotshot?

Here’s a list of things to help you! I really really do recommend that you give them a shot (haHa) because they’re so incredibly talented, and not to mention the members are super extra and funny and sweet and cute and etc. They’re just really great and you won’t regret stanning them I promise! 

First off, an intro to Hotshot - this is going to be long so brace urself ok

MEMBERS: Leader Junhyuk! He’s tall, handsome and has the voice of an absolute angel.

Rapper Yoonsan! Used to be an underground rapper, spits absolute fire, a little awkward, pokerface 90% of the time.

Dancer Timoteo! He’s tall, amazing at dancing and you probably have heard of him because he’s friends with a lot of idols. (Jimin thanks to: Timo hyung).

Krump monster + dancer + rapper(?) Kid Monster! You might know him as Taehyun, he’s a super tiny lil thing and he was a participant in PD101 and was in the most popular dance crew in SK - Monster Woo Fam.

Main vocal Sungwoon! You might know him from Produce 101 - he’s now a member of Wanna One (still a member of Hotshot though!) He has the most amazing voice I have ever heard. Sorry I just had to use this gif he’s so fackin cute SUhfojwngrowijg.

Maknae Hojeong! This kid is G O R G E O U S ! He has a super unique voice, and super hot body, a super cutie. Golden honey skin~~

Okay so those are the members. Let’s move onto some music!

MUSIC VIDEOS + SONGS:

Take A Shot: Their debut MV / song. The person who edited this went a little “edit crazy” and…just watch it for yourself, you’ll know what I’m talking about!

I’m A Hotshot: Green hair Sungwoon, you’ve probably seen clips of this MV on PD101! Kid Monster rapping 8)

Watch Out: Personally this is my fav MV. The dance + and the song are both great and really showcase their talent.

Midnight Sun: I think we all generally like to pretend this video doesn’t exist….it’s pretty low budget, but the song itself is good and it’s pretty different to anything they’ve done.

Rain On Me (Not an MV): My favourite song of theirs. This one is also different to the rest!

Step by Step: One of their Japanese songs! Kid Monster looks great in this video (hehe i’m biased sorry) and his vocals are showcased well here.  One More Try (Not an MV): This song is a song that I feel like people forget exists? It’s one of their Japanese songs!

Watch Out (大叔你老了): They debuted in China with a a Chinese version of of “Watch Out” - unfortunately the only audio I can find is this really shitty one wrgjaiowgwra And that’s that for music. I know, they don’t have many songs but the songs they have released are realllly good!

UPDATE: THEY HAD A COMEBAAAAAAAACK!

Jelly: ??? UM?? What can I even say?! This is their first song after a two year hiatus and it’s SOOO good! Choreo by the one and only Roh Taehyun! Also...San is in a cage...? + this comeback (and a few more to come(?) will be without Sungwoon since he’s currently a Wanna One member!) HERE is the Jelly fanchant and it makes everyone super emo because it has NEVER been that loud before !!!!

OTHER VIDEOS THAT YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WATCH:

This one is a video where they have to try and guess kpop songs. They can only hum (and dance?) and the other members have to guess what the song is. They’re split into two teams and it’s just funny to watch. “Musta Gusta Fu”.

This one is where they do the same thing but with english pop songs. They seem to be able to guess these better? Most people who watch this and aren’t into Hotshot yet tend to look into them after this.

This one is where they try to guess peoples ethnicities. They’re TERRIBLE at this but it’s my favourite video to watch, I probably watch it at least 3 times a week….(Comment on the video that made me scream: Kid Monster is so loveable)

Here and here they /attempt/ to do peoples makeup and…..well watch and see for yourself. 

Here they imitate famous Latin singers...? This is the cringiest thing I have ever seen and I forgot to include it bc I LITERALLY FORGOT IT EXISTED WIURGHORIWJGv “Yo soy Enrique Iglesias...yeah!”

Downpour: The performance that made everyone emo as fuck. Sungwoon’s voice honestly blows me away every single time I hear it, his voice is such a blessing omg??

JBJ (Just Be Joyful) was originally a fan made group consisting of Roh Taehyun (obviously), Kwon Hyunbin, Kim Donghan, Takada Kenta, Kim Yongguk, Kim Sanggyun and Kim Taedong! BUT SURPRISE SuRPRISE! JBJ WILL BE DEBUTING ON THE 10TH OF SEPTEMBER, 2017. MARK IT IN YOUR CALENDARS!

top 3 male biases: times i cried because of boys: • lee seungtae... because he worked so hard, and because of the lawsuit and because he just wanted to sing, and because he took a bath on camera but not in a sexy way he was just there and it was so wholesome and i love him and i miss him and i truly hope he lives a life filled with contentment and doesn’t ever blame himself for what happened • when kris left exo, because it was the first time i experienced a member leaving a group, and i didn’t realize at the time that could even happen (innocent little me) • when Nu’est W announced they were coming back with aron, because I truly didn’t think he was going to stay, but he DID stay and i was so relieved

top 3 female biases: times i cried because of girls: • when i listened to yoon mirae’s black happiness and read about her struggle and saw all of the amazing things she’s been able to accomplish. she wins on every level, like she can rap and sing, she has a beautiful family and a prestigious career (she’s 100% as successful as her husband), she’s totally strong and badass and also soft and feminine • when amber released borders and i read her message and watched the video and listened to her voice and just... yeah... borders • that time yoohyeon said ‘i’m doing... a science’ and it was so cute that i laughed until tears were actually streaming down my face

ultimate bias group: epik high was the first group i bought a physical album from (Remapping the Human Soul) tablo was the first one i knew, but tukutz and mithra have my heart too now ultimate male bias: the first time i heard leo speak i actually gasped (it took like 28 episodes of vixx mtv diary for him to say something okay lol) and my heart still does summersaults every time i see him smile because im so happy for him that he overcame his shyness to follow his dreams ultimate female bias: i am completely in love with actress and variety show host song jihyo. i adore her for not wearing makeup on tv and absolutely slaying, and also for wearing dramatic makeup and slaying once again, for being the only woman on running man for years and constantly holding her own, for her love of sleep and food and the members, and also that one photoshoot with the sword

Dear New ARMYs

Dear New ARMYs Please take good care of our boys when you become an ARMY. Please don't only love one member, as it's a rule for all of ARMY to appreciate every single member no matter what. First, there's our leader, Kim Namjoon aka Rap Monster He is brilliant. He's in the top percentage of intellects in South Korea, and taught himself how to speak and write English fluently. He raps like no other and is secretly the actual visual of the band. I mean, he's perfect. Second is Kim Seokjin. He's the oldest of the group, but acts like the youngest (maknae). His favourite colour is pink, and he loves food. He even has his own show called EAT Jin where he eats food live and talks to the fans. He's the visual of the group and most definitely the most underrated, so we welcome new Jin stans with open arms! Third is Min Yoongi aka Suga aka Agust D. I'm honestly not sure where to start with Yoongi, as he is my idol, and a person who I look up to a lot. He is the main rapper of the group, writes all the lyrics, and produces the songs. He is a god send. he's also the boyfriend of Jimin, though he won't admit it. I don't want to give a lot away, but you should look into him on your own, and read about his background, because honestly, he's been through so much and deserves the world. Fourth is Jung Hoseok aka J-Hope aka Hobi. He. Is. The. Fucking. Sun. Hobi, our hope, our angel, J-Hope. Hobi is the main dancer and actually makes a lot of the choreos for the group, so he's just amazing. He's very happy, energetic and honestly, you can't help but love him. His raping voice is very unique but beautiful non-the-less. Y'all better Stan him as hard as ya can because he's the real deal. Fifth is Park Jimin. Honestly, there isn't a soul in ARMY who doesn't like Jimin. He's so bubbly, and cute, and so much more. He's a lil smol bean, and is the shortest of the group and is thus made fun of for that reason. But, we still love him no matter what. Despite his angelic, pure face, this boy is sin and I'd be surprised to ever find someone who didn't like him from the off. Sixth is Kim Taehyung aka V. Tae (my first bias) is honestly perfect. He's the perfect blend of unique, cute and manly. This boy is O B S E S S E D with Gucci and he wears 100% Gucci only. One thing I NEED to point out: NEVER EVER GIVE HIM THE NICKNAME ALIEN. HE HATES IT AND ITS DISRESPECTFUL TO HIM. IM WARNING YOU RN. Anyway, he's lovely, and his voice is very smooth and deep, and just amazing. Last (and definitely not least) is Jeon Jungkook. My current bias, Kookie (his nickname) is the youngest of BTS and by far one of the best singers ever. He covers a lot of English songs which show his amazing voice, and he is referred to as the Golden Maknae as there is NOTHING he can't do. When he debuted at 15, he could sing, dance, rap, and everything in between. Jungkook is honestly talent in a human but very awkward so please take care of him. BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan (방탄 소년단) which is Korean for Bulletproof Boy Scouts. Now I'm gonna make this clear - if you're a fan who ain't gonna stay, please, please, just don't hurt the boys while you're a fan. I'm aware there will be bandwagon fans and I'm prepared for it, but please don't hurt our boys. They're so precious and what they achieved last night is something no Kpop artist has ever done. Please respect them. If you're looking for bomb-ass songs to get to know them, here are a few (or a lot) to get you started: Cypher Part 4 - the newest instalment of the rap line ROASTING HOES Dead Leaves - my favourite, and pretty much everyone's favourite Tomorrow - literally saved my life Run - dasi run run runnnnn I Need U - this is dope af Dope - talking of Dope. Please send love and respect, and understand that Kpop is completely different to western pop. It is absolutely amazing, as idols are trained for years before debut. It's hard, backbreaking, and so different to western pop. Don't just Stan BTS either, there's lots of other AMAZING groups to at least take a look at, as BTS are a third generation group, second gens like EXO, SHINee and Big Bang are phenomenal and you should definitely check them out. Other third gens like GOT7, Pentagon and Red Velvet are equally awesome. The girls are amazing btw. Just putting that out there. Top 15 Kpop Songs in 2016 Challenge

Ok this was super hard to do so I have a list of some honourable mentions at the end as well BECAUSE THEY ALL DESERVE TO MENTIONED )’:

For me, top songs are songs that make me feel happy/sad/dancy etc.etc. so they really produce a strong emotion within me OR the song itself is amazingly composed and original. I have a lot of ties in this because it was just too hard to separate songs based off different criteria I tried to use. So ENJOY!!! (I also tried to keep it to 1 song per group/band)

1. 아주 Nice (Very Nice) - Seventeen

This song was one which fit basically all my criteria and is absolutely AMAZING. The composition is admirable, the choreography on point and above all it made me feel so happy every time I listened to it. Once again Seventeen topped my list as last year for 2015, their 만세 (Mansae) was no.1 for me, so Seventeen I think, are killing the game. 

2. 피 땀 눈물 (Blood, Sweat, Tears) - BTS

Another amazing composition which was apart of an extremely well made album. BTS of course keep releasing songs which get better and better, and their choreography also keeps getting better and better. Loved the fact that Yoongi and Hoseok got more lines in this as well, though Jin should have gotten a fairer distribution, something which might have stopped this from reaching no.1 for me. 

3. Bermuda Triangle - Zico (Feat. Dean and Crush)

H.O.L.Y. S.H.I.T. when I heard this song was coming out and really WHO was in this song I nearly cried. This is basically THE collab of the year, one which everyone should be blessed with hearing. Honestly could have reached no.1 for me but it was released later in the year so I haven’t listened to it as much as no.1 and no.2.

4. D (Half Moon) - DEAN / Don’t Worry, Dear (걱정말아요 그대) - Lee Juck

Half Moon was such an amazing composition, so creative and of course topping the game like Dean always does. I didn’t necessarily listen to this song as much as other songs but it reached in my top 15 because it is such a note worthy release.

Don’t Worry, Dear by Lee Juck IS SO FRIGGIN GOOD AND SAD. For those who don’t know, this was an OST for Reply 1988, and is absolutely amazing. It is basically one of the most heart wrenching songs I have ever heard and would recommend to everyone. Amazing, 10/10, perfection, a masterpiece.

5. Monster - EXO / Cheer Up - Twice

Another great release by EXO. I honestly wasn’t a big fan of their EX’ACT album but this song made up for it. You can still catch me dancing this randomly in my room. 

Cheer Up was such a great song and release. Twice always release songs which I think everyone of all ages can enjoy and I think that’s an amazing feat alone. Literally learned the choreo to this by watching the MV a dozen times and I can’t wait for their further releases. 

6. Russian Roulette / Lucky Girl - Red Velvet

I couldn’t choose between these 2 songs because they’re both so amazing. Russian roulette and lucky girl are amazing compositions and I still can’t stop listening to them. I love the runs in lucky girl and I find that Red Velvet tend to release a wider variety of songs than other groups which I really love about them. Loving their album and i also loved their previous albums so kudos to them.

7. Hey Mama! - EXO-CBX

I LOVED THIS SONG AND STILL DO. Ok it is such a dance worthy song and makes me feel so happy. This was an amazing release and I loved this subunit. In the honourable mentions is also another song by them which I wanted to include in this list but I promised myself only 1 per group/band. As usual Chen’s voice kills me. (kudos to Baekhyun and Xiumin’s rapping as well, solid work)

8. Day Day - BeWhy (Feat. Jay Park)

Ok this is such a catchy song/rap too. I love this song alone because it gives me happy memories of my friends and I sitting on a swing-chair along the Han River and singing to this, so yes, I absolutely adore this song and find myself sing it everyday day (; (also Gray’s voice at the start kills me all the time)

9. 태픙 (The Eye) - Infinite

I am honestly never disappointed by Infinite and this was so friggin good as well. Also if you haven’t heard this live and MR removed, you aren’t living. One thing I love about Infinite is that every single member is absolutely 100% talented and can sing perfectly live, something I find other companies lack. Going to be so sad when their contract ends because they’re such classics and Kpop wouldn’t be Kpop without them. 

10. Fly - GOT7

Probably my favourite release by GOT7 so far. Love these guys, love this song, love the choreo. That’s all that needs to be said. (oh yes, also this album was my favourite released so far too, they keep getting better)

11. 에라 모르겠다 (FXXK It) - Big Bang

So glad they finally finished their MADE album, I’ve been waiting since last September (’: Honestly such a good song and only reason they didn’t place higher is that it took me about 2 more listens than other songs to really love it. The Kings of Kpop of course never disappoint though. (daesung my fav looks so hot though omg)

12. Carnival - B.A.P.

THIS SONG IS SO NOTEWORTHY AND MORE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT PLEASE. Such a great, upbeat and happy song. I find this stuck in my head all the time and just love it to bits. Makes me feel so happy so one of my favourite releases of 2016. (it’s from their album btw not a mv release) (omg yongguk is killing still he needs to chill)

13. The 7th Sense - NCT-U

Amazing composition. Amazing choreography. Amazing vocals. Amazing rapping. Can’t believe this came out of SM though. Honestly loved this so much though. Not that in to NCT tbh, I know names but wouldn’t be able to put names to faces, but I appreciate this song a solid 15/10.

14. No 눈치 - Sam Kim (Feat. Crush)

Too many people are sleeping on Sam Kim, he is honestly one of my favourite soloists and all his songs are amazing. This was such a great release, especially after his Mama Don’t Worry which I thought was already AMAZING. Then my other fav Crush comes in and i die a little again. So yes, definitely check him out if you haven’t already. (he also just did an OST for Goblin so check it out too)

15. Home - Sandeul / Fantasy - VIXX

Home, and honestly his whole album ‘Stay as you are’, was phenomenal. I don’t think I could describe it any more than that, so listen for yourself. His album was one of my favourite albums of the year. 

VIXX also never disappoints me with their releases, and Fantasy was no exception. I loved this whole genre/theme they had going on, and I was in love with it from the first bar. 10/10 recommend to everyone.
