hello, i’m deeya.

i have started this studyblr to document my academic journey to become a chartered accountant one day. i hope you support me, and we build a lovely community xx

i’m seventeen years old and i graduated from high school a few months ago. i have decided to pursue chartered accountancy along with bcom or bcom hons (still not sure).

college will start in fall, and currently i’ll spend my summer working to complete ca foundation.

fav shows: anne with an e, derry girls, suits, supernatural, vampire diaries, brooklyn 99, bojack horseman, stranger things, umbrella academy, gravity falls, and so many more.

fav movies: dead poets society (comfort movie), little women, any 2000s bollywood, any coming-of-age film and anything marvel and star wars!!

fav artists: hozier, lorde, lana del rey, taylor swift, ethel cain, mitski and the cranberries. (i’ll listen to anything, i swear)

fav books: the secret history, the picture of dorian gray, all rick riordan books, the hunger games, a good girl’s guide to murder, the bell jar, harry potter series, the shadowhunter chronicles.

fav writers/poets: dostoyvesky, sylvia plath!!(i love her), oscar wilde, jane austen, mary shelley, and franz kafka.

other fun facts:

i am a big reader, well used to be, but i now i don’t have enough time for it (shameful i know)

i am also an aspiring writer! i am currently working on two novels and i even have an writersgram (shush i’m not disclosing it yet)

i love stories about history, greek mythology, hindu mythology and everything about those.

i speak three languages but i want to learn atleast seven.

i had a huge dark academia phase, and i seriously love greek and latin so much.

i love fangirling over everything & have like 1089211 obsessions that i go crazy about.

i have so many random hobbies i can’t even mention them all (knitting, baking, art, gardening…)

i want to make a short film all by myself and i’m learning more about filmatography.

i am a literature, classics, history girl at my core but i don’t know why i have chosen to study finance, law, business and accounts instead??

my dream is to move out of my hometown (probably to london, it’s my fave city) and buy a little house and have 11 cats.

Tonight will be Night 3 of the Divali Nagar festival in Chaguanas, Trinidad. One of the biggest Divali celebrations in the Caribbean, the Nagar ("village") is the brainchild of the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC), who sought to preserve East Indian heritage in Trinidad and Tobago in the lead-up to the auspicious Hindu event. Below were NCIC President Hans Hanoomansingh's predictions for the first Divali Nagar in 1986, a few months prior to the hosting of the event in the car park of Mid Centre Mall:

“Let me invite you now for a few moments to travel with me ahead of time. It is the last week of October 1986. We are in a huge public place; sacred music fills the air. Around us are strong images of the festival. Proud artisans are completing their displays. Dancers and musicians are at the last-minute rehearsals. Some distance away mouth-watering Indian dishes are being prepared. Rehearsals are also taking place for a professional presentation of Ramleela. Someone, with a deep sense of accomplishment brings you the first copy of the Divali brochure in English and Hindi; so intricate, so excellent. The brochure gives details of the week-long activities; appropriate worship for Divali among them and you automatically walk towards the area set aside for the prayers. A feeling of purity and joy envelopes your being. You sit there entranced, envisioning the events that lie ahead and hoping each activity will bring the response towards which you have worked so devotedly. With your eyes closed, you see event after event taking place, crowds of nationals and visitors absorbed with this unique event and then the final celebrations of Divali with thousands of deeyas and coloured bulbs, voices in song, hearts enriched; one energised nation in noble pursuit. The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to Mu'adh (ibn Jabal - radiyAllahu ‘anhu):

"Shall I not teach you a dua that you may call upon (Allah) with,

and if you owed a debt the size of Mount 'Uhud (or Mount Sabr of Yemen)

Allah would pay it off for you...

Say, O Mu'adh:

اللَّهمَّ مالِكَ الملْكِ

تُؤتي الملكَ من تشاءُ

وتنزِعُ الملكَ ممَّن تشاءُ

وتُعِزُّ من تشاءُ

وتُذِلُّ من تشاءُ

بيدِك الخيرُ

إنَّك على كلِّ شيءٍ قديرٌ

رَحْمٰنَ الدُّنْيَا والآخِرَةِ ورَحيمَهُمَا تُعْطِيهُما مَنْ تَشَاءُ وتَمْنَعُ مِنهُما مَنْ تَشاءُ اِرْحَمْنِي رَحْمَةً تُغْنِيْنِي بِهَا عَنْ رَحْمَةِ مَنْ سِوَاك

"O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty (Kingdom),

You give sovereignty (Kingdom) to whom

You will and You take (snatch) sovereignty away from whom You will.

You (alone) grant honour to whomever You wish

and You (alone) disgrace (humble, humiliate) whomever You wish and

only in Your Hands is all goodness.

Verily, You have power over everything.

O’ One who shows a lot of mercy in the world and the hereafter! (or The Most Merciful One of both worlds, the here and the hereafter)

You (alone) grant both (the bounties of the dunya and the hereafter) to whomever You wish

and You (alone) prevent both (the bounties of the

world and hereafter) from whomever You wish.

Shower Your Special Mercy upon me

a mercy which enriches me (from poverty) and frees me (makes me independent) of (ever) needing the mercy (or help) of anyone else but You (alone).

Thought for the day

I love Edinburgh Crowley so much. David really lets his freak flag fly all over this one. He pulls out *all* the accents ( I was never sure if NG was trolling him or not). The huge grins, almost winking at the audience everytime he has a clever line. And this one in particular kills me.

There are at least 100 different versions, too. Proper ones and posh ones, Edinburgh vs Glaswegian, Orkney vs Highlander, and on and on. Sgt Shadwell's. Some of them are unintelligible to anyone outside the clan. Many contain vocabularies of their very own.

"An' prithee which'un o'deh Scottish accen's deeya wan'a'muh tae doo, laddie?" Is how I'm sure David answered that question.

my legs have been so dead because of the gym I HATE IT SO MUCH but i will have to push through and will not stop (please send help)

i've been trying to eat healthy, sleep enough, find time for reading and working on my novel and maintain my jounal and i'm feeling so burnt out. i can hardly keep up with the ca classes and catching up on the backlog that i have zero time for any hobbies and if you know anything about me, is that I LOVE MY HOBBIES SO MUCH!!

yes, well that is making me upset but i just need to manage my time better and focus on one thing at a time (it's very hard).

never mind, today was okay-ish as i did all my classes, went to the gym (in pain) and even watched two old lectures of accounts and made notes for law!! YES FINALLY GETTING BACK ON TRACK.

hopefully i'll start stats from tomorrow because i've been hearing it's quite hard and i'm scared to begin 😭

also, i am watching bojack horseman currently and i've never felt so seen in my life. he is me, i am him. i also love diane <3
