Full Character Sheet will be under the cut. (Warning; Long Read/Lot’s of text)
#1 BASIC STATS
Douglas is Male and has a Kind and Sensitive Masculinity. He is 17-18 years old at the chronological start of the story. He has Caucasian and Mediterranean heritage. He is 5’10” (1.78 m) and has a slender body frame with some slightly visible muscles.
Appearance; Douglas is someone who doesn’t want to be in the spotlight. His hair is a generic brown and his nose isn’t very noticeable either. The only interesting thing about his face are his eyes, which are a very light blue grey, almost white. He hates, trule HATES the attention that they draw on him. He’d rather stay in the background and to listen and observe as things happen.
Where is he from?; Douglas is from England, but he has Italian and Irish roots. This mostly notable in his olive skin colour and the fact that he has the Fiery Passion of the Italian when he talks about the things he loves and cares about. His mom is the Italian parent, and her passionate exterior and mannerisms have been inherited by most off her children, except for Douglas and the youngest child, a girl of just three years old His dad is a full blown Irish fellow, but he is from the Celtic ‘ethnic group’, so to speak. This group originated from Constantinopel, Turkey. (Which explains the mediterranean look of Douglas). He is of halfblood decent.
#2 RELATIONSHIPS
Family; Douglas is the second oldest and oldest son in a family of five children. He is extremely worried about the fact that he might not be following in his older sister’s footsteps, as she is perfect in everything she does.
He is the metaphorical black sheep of the family as he is the only introvert in a family of extroverts, except for his quiet little sister of three, named Silvana, who he seems to have a special connection with. His father is an ambivert, so he sometimes gets what Douglas is going through. This has caused him to feel a sense of detachment of some sort, as he fears that his family has a difficulty understanding him. They do love him dearly, and will do their best to understand him and they fully appreciate his quirks and his neediness for alone time once in a while.
Douglas likes to be alone, but he hates to be lonely, he lives in a ‘shell’, a protective space around him in which he can lose himself freely and where he won’t be just for his “weirdness”. However, his family is one of the most important things in his life, and is one of ‘anchors’, which keep him grounded in the here and now.
Friends; He had a very good friend growing up, this friend ultimately betrayed him in such a way that Douglas became (partly) traumatized, which manifested in severe trust issues and social anxiety. After partly processing the events that led to the trauma, Douglas became very withdrawn, which made his introversion more extreme.
- Remus Lupin; He and Remus were the social outcasts/weirdos of their year. It took a month or two before they started talking to each other. A long period of interested stares had preluded the first spoken words. Yet to both of them it was very clear to the other that the two often had a certain fondness of quiet and silence. Remus somehow bypasses the trust issues and social anxiety Douglas has (It is as if the young, sick-looking boy know how it feels to have a skeleton or two in the closet). Remus quickly figures out why Douglas is as withdrawn as he is and respects his boundaries, he is also the one who introduces him to the Marauders, and eventually convinces the other members to let Douglas in their ‘sacred’ ranks. Sirius and James do feel like a bit too much at times, according to Douglas, as he is more kin to Remus. Remus will do anything to let him feel at home, as he senses that Douglas’ home situation isn’t optimal for the fellow, even though Douglas loves, loves his family to bits and pieces.
- Kathryn Campbell; Douglas is very intrigued with Kathryn, when he first sees her during their classes together. He is baffled and amazed at how much power and fierceness can reside in such a small girl. He immediately fel save around here for some reason. She is one of the few people, along with Remus, who understand his ‘bubble’ and respect him for it. Kathryn is one of the first ones to whom Douglas confesses his fascination with Thestrals and the mythos surrounding them. Douglas and Kathryn also bond over their shared interest in History of Magic (even though the reasons of this interest are vastly different from each other; Douglas is more interested in the physical part and results of conflicts, while Kathryn wants to understand why people fought over something in the first place). Their friends are very grateful for this interest, as they usually drift away during Professor Binns classes.
- Marlene McKinnon; Marlene has had a weird fascination with Douglas ever since that peculiar discussion during Defense Against the Dark Arts in their first year at Hogwarts. For some reason Marlene couldn’t recall someone started talking about Thestrals and it quickly turned into a heated discussion. Enter this shy and lanky guy, who appeared to know a lot, almost everything there was to know, about Thestrals. Every attempt to discredit or flat out contradict him, was swiftly stifled into nothingness. She can clearly remember thinking that ‘Wright is an interesting fellow’. This was the moment that Marlene’s stereotype of Hufflepuff was somewhat shattered, as she used to think that there was not one thing worth of noticing about them, a few months after that she also realized that stereotypes are nothing but a false pretense or perception of a group of people, and that decisions based on them are always going to have negative results. Douglas himself was never sure why Marlene McKinnon, one of the coolest and most popular people in their year, had taken an interest into him. After Remus introduced him to the Marauders during their fourth year, he finally gets the opportunity to talk to Marlene (who is extremely nervous about the whole ordeal, and they talked for a good hour or two. Afterwards they started hanging out more and became good friends.
- James Potter; James doesn’t think that highly of Douglas at first, as he doesn’t come across as interesting in any way (‘Just another, plain Hufflepuff’), but after McKinnon’s obsession with the guy becomes apparent to James, and the many great stories Remus would tell him about the guy, and after some years, James slowly starts to acknowledge and respect Douglas more and more, and he too, becomes to the realization that Hufflepuff isn’t the house for the generic and boring. (This is also the first cue towards him deflating his head and catching the attention of Lily) Eventually his respect of Douglas leads to inviting the Hufflepuff into the Marauders. Douglas himself is not to sure about this invitation, as he himself, doesn’t feel like he would fit into the group (even though it’s abundantly clear to all the others, that he is kin to all of them)
#3 THE SEXY STUFF
Sexuality; Douglas is heterosexual, but has had a fling/quick relationship with a Slytherin fellow and appreciates and acknowledges any form of beauty, male, female or otherwise.
What is he attracted to?; Douglas isn’t attracted to one’s appearance immediately, even though it can catch his eyes. He needs to know if someone’s personality and character would fit his own, if they would mesh, before any romantic feeling would be formed. Douglas isn’t one to be infatuated. He needs someone who understands him and doesn’t want to change him. Someone who understands how simple, yet complicated his thoughts, feelings and fears are.
Sexual Experience; He and Kathryn had been in a relationship for some time and had sex a few times. It didn’t work out in the end and the parted ways as friends and are, after an awkward period at first, very good friends once more.
Romantic Experience; Relationships with Kathryn which was very successful, but not what they needed at the time and a fling with a bloke from Slytherin, which didn't last very long, just about three weeks.
#4 SKILLS
Skills; Douglas is a mediator, who dislikes conflict. He is the one who tries to resolve any issues that may occur in a group. He also has an extensive knowledge about all things regarding Death. He is a expert on Thestrals and the mythos of the Death Hallows (He knows the Tale of the Three Brothers by heart), and he can also concoct a very mean Draught of the Living Death, which left Lily very jealous of him. One of the more creepy things is how he know how it is to die by different means (drowning, beheading etc.). Whenever people how he got this specific information, he looks mysteriously and whispers ‘…Magic…’ , besides that he also claims to know what exactly the Veil in the Department of Mysteries is made of.
The topic of Death, was a minor interest at one point in time, but it grew out of hand quickly, his father, realizing Douglas had something to call his own, accepted it and encouraged him to develop and eventually hone this interest. His mother had some complaints about it at first (It’s eerie, as he gets and irksome and cryptic feeling about the tought, that her son is meddling with Death), but he had made her peace with it as soon, as she saw how lively Douglas became (Ironic, I know). All this creepy knowledge inside of him, caused him to be nicknamed as the ‘Walking Death’.
Kathryn and him are often called the ‘Muggle Death Squad’, as Kathryn has shown finesse in the Muggle art of ‘beating someone up’.
Schooling; He went to a Muggle Elementary School and achieved a number of N.E.WTs at Hogwarts, namely in Potions, Charms, Herbology, History of Magic and Care of Magical Creatures, he had passable grades in Transfiguration, Ancient Runes and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
After Hogwarts he dearly wanted to become an Unspeakable and thus started to learn for it, but he couldn’t keep up the vow of Secrecy that all Unspeakable must pledge, as he needed, craved for someone to share his life and thoughts with Accepting this he decided to go into the field of Magizoology, more specifically, the breeding of Thestrals, his knowledge of Death being very useful in caring for these misunderstood creatures. Years later, when he is an established name in the field of Magizoology he starts to give lectures and classes on the beasts and even profides Hogwarts with some of the pitch black creatures.
Hobbies; Dougal has a knack for drawing, but he isn't the most talented at this. Yet his portraits and drawings of Thestrals and anything revolving Death are eerily beautiful and a bit haunting.
#5 PERSONALITY AND CHARACTERISTICS
Introverted or Extroverted?; Douglas is (extremely) introverted. Growing up in a very outspoken family, making a very stark contrast and even deepening his introversion a bit. Once he starts getting some friends, he gets a more outgoing and slightly more extroverted.
Right-brained or Left-brained?; He is left-brained, he’s very in touch with his emotions and senses and makes most decisions based on what those tell him. Yet he has a logical side to him, which shows when he is tackling difficult problems, which require some sort of strategic or logical approach.
Strength; He has a distaste for issues of any kind and wants to solve them as best as he can, this has led him to develop some kind of psychiatrist persona he could whip up when need be, for these so-called ‘sessions’ he often put some of his own troubles on table, to put things into perspective or to offer a solution.
Once he invites people to his ‘bubble’, they will stay there forever, he has enclosed them in his heart, unless you do something, that is in Douglas’ eyes entirely unredeemable. If you do that, you will be banished from that sacred place. His Slytherin fling is a great example of this; he couldn’t handle the stigma surrounding a Slytherin x Hufflepuff relationship, not to mention the passive-aggressive homophobia and eventually threw Douglas under the bus, just to save his own skin.
As mentioned before Douglas also has a masterful and broad knowledge of Death and all her dealings.
Weaknesses; Dougal Wright has severe social anxiety and trust issues. He always thinks that people are talking behind his back. This paranoia has gone to the point that he thinks that everything nice that is said to him is either a lie, hoax or, even worse, a facade, a ploy for him to be used to further someone else’s goal. As sad before, Douglas is a living paradox, and this is THE paradox that defines him.
Even though he is as loyal as can be, he is loyal to a fault, he will always defend his friends, often taken over by emotions and tunneling on one set perspective. If need be, this in excellent way for his enemies to exploit or blackmail him, as he will do anything to save his friends and loved ones.
Sometimes he also falls victim to hubris (zealous or foolish confidence), if he thinks he is the best at something. History has tried to teach him that this attitude almost always immediately backfires, straight into his face.
Not necessarily a weakness per se, but he has an intense dislike for plain potatoes, and only under very severe circumstances will opt to eat them. If the situation isn’t life threatening he will fight anyone who (forcefully) suggests he should have some.
Goals/Dreams/Aspirations; To his core Douglas wants to be loved, be cared for and, above else, be understood. He also gets really happy when he sees that other people are happy (this is where his ‘Mediator’ status comes from).
Other than that he wants to become a respected Thestral-breeder. He wants to give the bat-winged horses a better reputation in the wizarding world. They are actually very kind and soft-hearted. He wants to clear the air misgivings and stereotypes that circulate through the wizard community.
Fears; As said before, Douglas has paralyzing social anxiety and trust issues, which all stem from that incident in his youth, when his then best friend, humiliated and (publically) betrayed him. Coming to Hogwarts, he is very reluctant make friends, setting up defences to save himself from any emotional damage. Until he meets Remus Lupin, who is  in a similar situation and eventually Remus succeeds in drawing the real Douglas Wright from his shell.
Insecurities; Being left unnoticed and thus being lonely. He has nothing against being alone for extended periods of time, he just can’t stand utter solitude
He is insecure about his somewhat extraordinary (or explicit) appearance and constantly asks him if he’s loveable or not, even when there are people that tell him otherwise
Basically, he’s an eternal worrier.
What would he die for?; His friends, the people who made him feel part of a family, who made him feel like he belonged somewhere.

Writeblr Update-isch and reintroduction
I’ve gathered an x amount of followers lately, so I’m doing (another) introduction; Heyo,
I’m Fantasypokemaniac, I’m a fantasy and sci-fi writer who occasionally dons the costume of a poet. I also have a soft spot for drawing stuff (even though I’m not that good an artist). So you can expect both of those featured on this blog. (Along with some silly and funny stuff once in a while) I’m currently working on two of my WIP’s; - The first one is called ‘Deers & Potions’ and is a Harry Potter AU fanfic, in which James defeats Voldemort by putting him down as Prongs and where Lily becomes the Potions Proffesor instead of Snape. Chronically the story will start in the first year after the Marauders Era students graduated from Hogwarts. There will be some OC’s involved :). - The other one goes by ‘Cursed by Fire’ and follows Margareth (or ‘Marse’ for friends) who lives in a Steampunk society that worships the Night and everything that belongs to the Lady of Midnight. She just happend to be revealed as a pyrokinetic (think Firebenders), which are considered Demons of Light and Fire, so she and her girlfriend have to face the problems that will certainly arise. (Very corny ending I know...) So if you’d like leave a DM or Ask and we can gladly talk Writing in general, your writing or mine. Have a nice day/afternoon/night!
