“i don't mind people believing that.” you hummed playfully, as you looked up at dedue. “i'd be more than happy to have a handsome boyfriend like you!”

It was another late night of meetings, go figure. Dedue assured you that he could handle the little one, so you needn’t worry about returning to your quarters until everything was taken care of.

It was a landmark council meeting, after all. The union of the former Adrestian Empire and its subjects was coming to a head, and if this talk went well, then Fodlan would finally be united, once more.

Your one trouble with going to this meeting so late was your son. He was still so new to the world, only a few weeks old, and you worried that leaving him without your care would be difficult for Dedue to handle.

He was busy enough as the captain of the Knights of Sothis. What would happen if he came home exhausted and had to care for the baby, too? Of course your husband dismissed this passionately. It was his son, after all; he would take care of him as long as he needed to in order for you to get your work done.

So with a lingering kiss goodnight, and the promise of a swift return, you left your dear son in the hands of your beloved knight. 

He was more than happy to spend the time with his little one. The child was still so small, barely bigger than his father’s hand, and was asleep more often than not.

Dedue held his son while he read in bed, baby snoozing happily on his father’s broad chest.

It had been a peaceful night, as he thought. After all, he was an observant man. He knew full well how his child would act, he’d known him his whole life (three weeks).

Eventually though, Dedue felt the lull of sleep pulling at his own eyes, and knew it would still be a while yet before you returned to him.

“Come, son.” He carefully shifted out of bed, deftly moving to sit up and then from bed to the bassinet just a few feet away. “It’s time to go to sleep, for both of us.”

He rocked the baby a little while, humming a Duscurian lullaby softly. The rumble of his father’s voice soothed his son, guaranteeing a good night’s sleep for at least the first few hours.

Once the child was mumbling no more, Dedue swaddled him up in his blankets (knitted by the captain), and nestled him into his bed.

“Goodnight, little one. Papa will be here when you wake.”

Dedue beamed at the baby, his heart swelling with pride. How could one human being be so very perfect? It defied all logic and sense.

But his visage of perfection didn’t last long. Dedue barely took a step away from the crib when a sharp cry rang out. 

He was wide awake, all of a sudden.

Brow furrowed, Dedue returned to his boy, finding him struggling in his blankets and his face scrunched and pink with distress.

“My, my...what’s happened?” He wondered aloud, quick to scoop up the child and bring him back to his chest.

He rubbed his son’s back soothingly, humming the lullaby again, waiting for the crying to subside. Little hands were clinging to his nightshirt, which was precious and meant the baby wanted to be nowhere but in his father’s arms.

Who was Dedue to deny him?

“There, now, no need to cry. You were sleeping so soundly, before. You mustn’t wake up so suddenly. What if Mama was here and you woke her up? She needs her rest too, son. Especially after tonight.”

All he received in response were muffled sobs, slowly giving way to sweeter mumblings. Dedue continued his comforting ministrations until the sounds came to a stop once more.

Convinced that he was asleep, for certain this time, Dedue returned to the bassinet. He held the baby to his chest as long as he could until he was completely leaned over the bedding, then settled the boy back in once more, making sure he was still warm and snug in his blankets.

His hand lingered on the baby’s chest, feeling the steady breathing of a child fast asleep.

Mission accomplished.

He straightened back up, turned to go back to bed, and-

Dedue cringed when a louder cry erupted from the bassinet. Now he was just confused. He quickly returned to the child’s side and scooped him back up; what was he so upset about? Going from sleeping so soundly with his father one moment, to angrily crying the next.

“What’s gotten into you?” He asked with a far gentler tone than he’d have used with anyone else. The baby was quieted quickly once more, put back to sleep...but this time, Dedue watched him.

He set him back down in the cradle, and leaned over its side, watching and waiting for the baby to cry out.

Sure enough, the second Dedue’s hand was off him, that boy was crying.

He was starting to piece together the culprit.

“Little one…” He lifted the baby once more, hugging him to his chest. “Could it be that  you won’t sleep without me?”

Dedue warmed at the thought, though it did present a few issues. How was he to sleep if his child couldn’t without him?

He couldn’t very well fall asleep while holding the baby, and risk turning over or smothering him by accident.

You definitely wouldn’t let him live if such a thing happened.

But if his son wouldn’t sleep without him, then…

“Ah, perhaps this is what parental sacrifice is all about.” He smiled to himself, snuggling the baby close as he returned to bed. He sunk back into the pillows once more, drawing the blankets up to cover the baby properly, and warm himself back up.

“If it helps you sleep, darling...I will forgo rest for the night.”

Dedue kissed the top of his little head, relishing the child’s cuddling into him and seeking out that warmth only a parent could provide.

Sure enough, that baby boy was out like a light in no time. 

It was a sight you never thought you’d see, coming into the bedroom and finding the candle sputtering, almost out, but illuminating your husband, dozing off in bed with a baby cradled in his arms and fast asleep.

You wished you could encapsulate that moment forever. 

Dedue woke with a groggy noise when you gently lifted the baby from his arms. You resisted the urge to laugh; such a protective father.

“Go back to sleep, my love.” You whispered, kissing his cheek.

Dedue hummed, rubbing at his eyes. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep...it’s not safe for the baby.”

“You didn’t move a muscle, not to worry. He’s just fine.” You assured him, gently tucking the baby in to his bassinet once more. 

“I tried to put him to bed a few times,” Dedue yawned, “But he would cry if I wasn’t holding him.”

“It takes a few tries, sometimes. I think he just loves his Papa so much he doesn’t want to leave you.”

“Ha.” Dedue blushed, touched by the mere thought.

“It’s late, dear. We both need to get some rest. He’ll be up in a few hours, anyways.”

“I’ll take the first watch.” He welcomed you into bed after you changed, resting his head atop yours. It was far more comforting to sleep with the warmth of someone he held dear, in his arms.

“You’re a wonderful father, Dedue. He’s lucky to have you.”

“I’m lucky to have both of you.” He murmured into your hair. 

You fell  into blissful sleep together, everyone sound and quiet in the Archbishop’s quarters. When you did end up waking again, it was a whopping six hours later (the most you’d slept in weeks), when Dedue informed you the baby was in need of a proper feeding. 

Something that he was  unable to provide, unfortunately.

dimitri fell in love right away when they met but realized it only during the rain scene

byleth fell in love more slowly and realized it at the goddess tower (academy)

sylvain knew about dimitri's crush all along and kept teasing him about it but dimitri was dense and clueless and always like "i dont know what you are talking about, sylvain. my only feelings toward the professor are admiration, care, and the wish to spend all my life at her side. totally normal"

during the fishing tournament, byleth asked dimitri to keep her company. dimitri was confused, the professor always fishs alone!, but gladly accepted. she also tried to teach him how to fish but he kept broking the fishing rods

byleth always spends at least 3 hours at sunday having tea with dimitri (its me im byleth)

the first time byleth tried to make tea for dimitri, she made a chamomille too strong for a normal human to enjoy. luckily dimitri isnt normal and it was the first time in years he tasted something. byleth keeps over-pouring his chamomille just to see him enjoying some taste

dimitri cant cook for shit. byleth only knows how to stew at a campfire. dedue is their savior

(dedue knows about dimitri's crush too but doesnt tease him about it)

they love each other in every universe, in every timeline. even if they dont realize it, or one of them (dimitri) dies, they still love each other and always will.

dimileth CF: edelgard is the one who kills dimitri, byleth tries to stop her but fails, and after she spends an entire day hugging dimitri's corpse, unable to understand why her heart feels so broken (since when does she have a heart?)

dimileth VW: after the timeskip, byleth meets dimitri for the first time at the gronder. she rushes to him and hug him, whispering "i thought you were dead", and dimitri replies " i thought it about you too". then an archer hits dimitri on the back. he looses strenght on his legs. byleth starts screaming. dimitri doesnt look at her, he only says "i always wanted to dance with you" and dies. byleth turns back time till the monastery and now chooses the blue lions :)

dimileth SS: (wooo "ghost scene".) dimitri always loved the professor from afar. and hes not dead, but he knows he's about to, so he goes to the monastery to see the professor one more last time. he needs to tell her what hes doing, what hes about to do, but looses all his composture once he sees byleth smiling at him in relief (she thought he died- offscreen during gronder). ohhh but he needs to go now, he feels like that smile isnt meant for him, this isnt his- their story; maybe in another life. this is dangerous. why this urge to kiss her, why right now? he needs to go, now. "im sorry, professor. im a coward, i've always been a coward. i came here to tell you-" shes crying, shes smiling. "i love you too".

when byleths asks dimitri to go to the sauna with her, he heats up so fast not bc of the heat, but bc the professor is in her underwear sothis help me-

mercedes knows too. (actually every blue lions knows. theyre not very subtle) she tries to help byleth realize her feelings by talking through metaphors but byleth is too dense and she keeps wondering why mercedes always talk to her about "the goddess and her king"

during academy phase, dimileth dont kiss. but according to sylvain, they spend all the time "eyes-fucking each other". true!

their first kiss? lmao actually at the S support scene. theyre clumsy and a bit awkward- its the first kiss for both- but its also the best one of their lives. bc its the beginning of their life.

sothis hates both of them (lovingly). A LOT. she considered many times to get control over byleth's body just to make those two fuck. everytime byleth smiles under her breath when she thinks about dimitri and then wonders "what is this hot wave im feeling? must go ask manuela about it" sothis starts screaming

at the ball, dimitri spent all the night looking for the courage to ask the professor to dance. once he collected it, he sees claude dancing with the professor! (how dare he!) (why am i so jealous?!) the next time he spares with claude, claude ends up in the infirmary. "oops. my crest activated :("

So I was thinking about how they keep the bond scar from getting infected in omegaverse, yeah?

Concept: antibacterial alpha saliva. Hear me out!

So my thought here is that when an alpha is ready to bond with an omega they might produce some kind of disinfecting effect in their saliva, which would basically make their fangs sterilized before they go in

The wounds they leave behind still heal under a normal timeframe. So I was thinking it's a sign of devotion or love for an alpha to continue taking care of their omega's wound personally after mating. So a particularly devoted alpha would spend days afterward checking the wound and licking and kissing at their partner's neck to keep it clean until it's fully healed.

Of course if an alpha didn't want to do that then they could just take care of it normally. So like, if for example an omega was bitten by someone they didn't know then they'd have to disinfect and bandage it themselves. But I think if they do it that way it never quite heals right. Like, you can always tell when a bond scar was healed by an alpha vs. when a bond scar is healed without an alpha.

Whiiiiich leads to lots of social stigma/judgement toward both alphas and omegas. Like, if the couple is still together then a poorly healed bond scar will have people judging the alpha for being an inattentive or uncaring partner. If they're not together then maybe an omega is pitied or judged for choosing poorly and being left by their bondmate.

So ways I could totally make this about my ships:

1 Angsty Dimidues where Dedue marks Dimitri just before sacrificing himself to save Dimitri during the time skip. Dimitri has to heal the wound all by himself, complicated further by him being on the run with very little in the way of supplies, which leads to it looking pretty gnarly.

That's partially why he wears high necked shirts/armor after the timeskip. Partially because he doesn't want anyone to know, and partially because looking at Dedue's mark hurts too badly. Once they're back together he fiercely defends Dedue against anyone who would judge him for the way the mark looks

2) Soft Dimidues where Dedue takes the best damn care of that bond mark and Dimitri constantly brags and gushes and shows it off to everyone so they know how wonderful Dedue is

3) Maybe some angsty Sylvixes where Sylvain marks Felix during a rut and then doesn't remember it later. Felix takes care of it himself and hides it from Sylvain for years

Sylvain discovers it eventually, but doesn't realize it's his mark, and is ready to rip whichever asshole did that to Felix to shreds (surprise! it's you, asshole!)

4) Fluff-angst Leokumis where Leo takes the best damn care of that bond scar, but partially because he's traumatized from Garon being such an asshole. Garon never took care of anyone he marked so they always wound up with gnarly looking scars. The court judged them very harshly for it

5) Some kind of interaction between Alfred's illness and the scar mark healing? I dunno if I would want it to turn out gnarly no matter how hard they try (for the angst) or if I would just want it to take a really long time for it to heal, meaning Diamant has to be extra extra dedicated to it (for the fluff)

Intermission I: Festival

Occasionally in my stories there will be chapters called intermissions, where the focus will be on interactions between characters and are used to move the story along, as to not linger too long at a certain point. As a rule, intermissions hold no plot points, but that doesn't mean that the points brought up won't be touched upon later. Essentially, these can be seen as filler. Intermissions are formatted like headcanons for the sake of efficiency.

• Once Xinyan started playing, everyone was in awe. You had tried to explain rock to them before but could never find the right words, and it was made abundantly clear why from this performance.

• Hu Tao spent a great deal of time listening to Mercedes's ghost stories, enamored by the feeling of a chill running down her spine from words alone.

• Xiangling was having the time of her life. Not only was Raphael willing to taste test almost anything, but Dedue was more than willing to share some Duscur recipes.

• Ashe and Xingqiu hit it off almost immediately. How could they not while they both hold a burning passion for literature, chivalry, and justice? They've both commented on how the other seems like a hero from a story they read, one of noble birth and one of humble origins.

• You already know but I'm going to say it anyway. Felix and Childe got into a fight. It was actually closer than you'd think, Childe still won but he was so impressed that someone without a vision could do so well against him. Offered to be Felix's sparring partner again in the future.

• Beidou, Catherine, Jeralt, and Alois are now drinking buddies.

• You shared your reward money with the others, not having much use for the sheer amount and also knowing you wouldn't regret it as Ningguang has already discussed a meeting schedule with Alfonse and Sharena to discuss a currency exchange rate.

• Dorothea, Manuela, and Yun Jin discuss how operas of their respective worlds differ, the two divas hoping to give the current opera singer any pointers they can. She likely doesn't need any, but she's so curious that she wouldn't say that out loud.

• Hilda, finally having some mora thanks to you, decided to try on some fancy Liyue dresses, and Hilda's fashion choice combined with Liyue's style of clothing left Marianne a blushing, stuttering mess.

• Ferdinand was enthralled by Teyvat's many weapons. Even just the polearms had a variety of designs and it sparked his collector's flame, and when he heard some people had signature weapons unique to them, without being sacred artifacts or heirlooms, he wanted to explore all of Teyvat at that point just to see these weapons.

• Seteth, Flayn, and Rhea were interested in Liyue's religion and history, but not wanting a glorified children's tale they asked around and were led to Ganyu, who was surprised but thrilled that someone outside of Liyue's devoted was so interested in its history to the point of wanting the facts without the fluff.

• If you thought Shamir and Yelan would get along, you were wrong. They don't hate each other, but Yelan can't stand how blunt and work focused Shamir is. It's more of a one-sided thing as Shamir actually doesn't mind Yelan's "outgoing" attitude. (I had to close the game because I was not expecting this woman to whisper in my/Aether's ear during the last Lantern Rite event.) However, they both have mutual respect for each other's efficiency. Their interaction was brief, so they didn't really get to know each other.

• Dimitri, Edelgard, and Yuri wished not to offend any Liyue citizens and to not be cheated like the tourists they are, leading them to Yanfei, who was more than willing to teach someone about Liyue's laws and how to avoid scam artists.

• Claude wants to learn about Liyue's culture. Being the idealist that he is, he hopes it'll help him find a way to convince Almyra and Fodlan to stop fighting. This leads him to ask around, starting conversations with countless familiar faces.

• The two Byleths were keen to bring Sothis to a food stall, as the goddess has only recently attained a physical form thanks to being summoned. The two were met with a fist to the gut each after commenting on how cute she looked while eating.

• Arval, being in a similar position as Sothis, is also accompanied by the two Shez's. However, they seem more interested in physical activity like dancing or making their own lantern.

• Hubert, while keeping an eye on Edelgard from the shadows, was scared half to death when he realized he was being watched by a masked spearman. While their face was covered, he could feel a glare that threatened to pierce his entire being. Truly, none can escape the eye of The Vigilant Yaksha.

• Lorenz could be found trading poems with Xingqiu or Hu Tao.

• Jeritza was accompanying Mercedes and was practically being harassed by Tartaglia's requests to spar after hearing about him from Felix.

• The Traveler and Paimon met Constance and Hapi. They were kind of put off by Hapi's seemingly uncaring tone, but it was cute how her tone would shift when talking about her Coco. Constance was bosting about house Nuvelle as usual. When the two groups parted, Paimon couldn't help but comment on how familiar Constance's behavior was, but she couldn't explain why.

• Ingrid had lost sight of Sylvain, and when she found him, he was talking to Shenhe. Assuming the usual was taking place, she grabs Sylvain by the ear, apologizes, and drags him off, leaving Shenhe confused, as they were just talking about flowers.

• Monica is attached to Edelgard at the hip, constantly trying to get her to wear some accessories she thought would look nice on her.

• Bernadetta, still on the boat, decides to paint the harbor as the lanterns lit up the city enough for her to see it, and her window gave her the perfect view.

• Linhardt tried getting books from Wanwen bookhouse, but he couldn't tell fact from fiction, as in he couldn't read Teyvat's writing. Due to language not being a topic of interest for him, he gives up.

• Caspar and Ignatz had left the city. Caspar had too much energy to stay in the harbor, and Ignatz wanted to paint Liyue from a good angle. Both had a chance encounter with Kazuha, who complimented their respective qualities.

• Balthus had told everyone about Genius Invokation and suggested it to them as well

If someone is absent from this, it means I couldn't think of anything involving them. My knowledge of certain characters is limited( I had to dig for Lorenz's poetry bit. ). Also, I know Yelan isn't really like that, but I put that in because I thought it might get a chuckle out of some people.

Dedue clutched his bedsheets in his fist as he woke up. It had been a long time since he had seen Ashe; he was a little disappointed that he wasn’t back from Castle Gaspard. He knew it would take a lot of time to get everything in order to give his title to his younger sister, but he didn’t think it would take this long. Nonetheless, Dedue was still heartbroken that he had to face another morning without Ashe.

He let out a sigh as he shuffled out of bed, stretching out his arms and shaking his legs. He didn’t have much of a day today: Dimitri forced him to take the day off. If Dedue had a say in it, he would be working. It wasn’t a great feeling for him, especially with Ashe being gone. He tried not to lament on his thoughts as he figured out how to pass the time. He went through a mental list of chores that needed doing, and the only thing that came to mind was grocery shopping.

Dedue quickly changed into something casual, keeping his blue scarf on, before going to the kitchen. He rustled through cabinets, pantry, and icebox, taking a mental note of everything he needed to buy. Before leaving the kitchen, he grabbed a spare basket and left for the town market.

When he arrived into town, he sighed with relief. There weren’t many people today—he could easily buy what he needed and get back home. One of the most frustrating things about the day was finding a good fish, especially trying to find some at a good price.

“Oh,” Dedue said softly, bumping into someone walking towards another merchant.

When he looked down to see who it was, he was shocked. It was Ashe. A smile slowly started to take place on his face. It was short lived; he soon repressed his smile when he realized that Ashe was truly back. Dedue felt his heart sink. Ashe wasn’t supposed to be back yet.

“I’m sorry, Ashe,” Dedue said, coldly.

“Hello, Dedue! I didn’t expect to see you here!” Ashe said cheerfully. His expression slowly changed when he saw Dedue’s face. “I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.”

“It’s nice to see you back in Fhirdiad,” Dedue nodded, deadpan. “Did everything back in Gaspard territory go well?”

“Not as well I was hoping,” Ashe sighed, looking intently at Dedue’s face.

“How so?” Dedue asked as he began to walk.

“The amount of paperwork that I was given to change successors was absurd,” Ashe said, walking along with him. “With all the bickering between the other nobles, employees, and my siblings, it became exhausting. We were stuck at a standstill for weeks. I just wish my sister could take over—she’s better equipped for this than I will ever be.”

“I can see how that would be frustrating,” Dedue said plainly.

“I don’t want to bore you with the specifics,” Ashe said, quickly changing the subject. “How are you feeling?”

“I am fine,” Dedue lied, his voice growing lower.

Ashe sighed, stopping him so he could look at his boyfriend. “Dedue,” he said softly.

“Hm?” Dedue asked, stopping in his tracks.

“I know you’re lying,” Ashe scowled, putting his hand on his arm. “Are you okay?”

“Ashe, I am fine,” Dedue reassured him, deciding to walk to another vendor.

Ashe sighed and didn’t press further, only following him.

Their walk was quiet, only speaking to merchants when needed. It felt odd to Dedue that Ashe was back. Maybe it was because Ashe had never told him he was going to arrive back in Fhirdiad. Maybe it was because he never received any word from him in the past couple of months. He couldn’t figure it out, but that didn’t stop the betrayal and pain that were stirring inside of him.

“So,” Ashe murmured out. “What are you planning on making with everything?”

“Sweet and salty whitefish sauté,” Dedue said as he picked up some tomatoes. He looked over at Ashe’s face and tried to repress his smile at how cute he was. It was becoming increasingly difficult to stay mad at him. “I thought it would be nice to eat today.”

“Really?! I’m so happy I was able to make it here just in time to eat it,” Ashe said, his smile broadening. “Let’s see what we have. We have tomatoes, salt, some spices, hmm…”

Dedue said nothing as Ashe mumbled to himself.

“Oh! We need the whitefish!” Ashe said, snapping his fingers. “I know the perfect person to get fresh fish for a really good price!”

Dedue frowned as Ashe began to walk away.

“Dedue?” Ashe asked, seeing Dedue’s expression. He held his hand out towards him. “Are you coming?”

“Yes,” Dedue replied, taking his hand.

Dedue followed Ashe through town, realizing that Ashe’s perfect fish vendor was Anna. He perused her selection and Ashe was right: all of them were recently caught, and the price wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t great.

“That’ll be 200 gold for those whitefish,” Anna laughed.

“That’s a lot of money for two fish,” Dedue said, furrowing his brow.

“Not for whitefish it isn’t,” Anna told him, her gaze sharpening and her smirk growing bigger.

“I have to disagree,” Ashe chimed in. “These are common fish around here so it doesn’t cost a fortune.”

“Maybe, but not for fresh whitefish,” Anna said, her voice becoming harder.

Dedue stayed out of the conversation and listened to the two bicker about prices. It was terrifying when he heard Ashe’s and Anna’s words exchanged. He was in awe of Ashe’s ability to cut the price of the fish down to something reasonable. How Ashe was able to haggle anyone, Anna no less, was a mystery to him. Not that he minded too much—he got good prices on food.

“Ugh,” Anna sighed, dejectedly. “You really drive a hard bargain, kid.”

“Heh,” Ashe smiled and laughed as Anna wrapped up the fish. “I just know how the game works.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Anna groaned, handing Ashe the parcel. “I hope you enjoy your fish.”

Dedue smiled as he took the fish from Ashe and placed it into the basket.

“Well, now that we have everything, we can go back to Fhirdiad castle and make the food!” Ashe exclaimed, setting off in the direction of their home.

Dedue nodded as he followed. He felt his stomach churn as they walked. He didn't know if Ashe had picked up on his feelings, or if he was ignoring it. Either way, he was still upset, though he made sure his emotions never crossed his face.

As soon as they returned to the castle, they headed straight to the kitchen. Nothing much was said between the two when they cooked. Dedue began fileting the fish as Ashe was preparing the tomatoes.

“Dedue,” Ashe softly murmured as he placed down his knife.

“Hm?” Dedue asked, coating the fish in a spice rub.

“I know something has been bugging you, and I don’t know what,” Ashe said, looking up at him. “I didn’t tell you I was coming back today because I wanted to surprise you.”

“You know I don’t like any kind of surprises,” Dedue reminded him as he coated the fish in his spice rub.

“I know,” Ashe sighed.

“Truthfully, I feel a little neglected,” Dedue added, placing the cut up fish onto a baking pan.

“I am truly sorry that I made you feel like that,” Ashe sighed out, placing his hands on Dedue’s arms to make him stop cooking. He tenderly squeezed Dedue’s arm as he moved closer to him. “I never meant to do that to you. I wanted to surprise you so I could see your lovely smile. I’m sorry, I should have sent you a letter saying that I was coming home early.”

“It would have been nice to see you home, cooking breakfast in the morning after these past couple of weeks,” Dedue reminisced, looking at Ashe’s face. “Even getting one letter from you would have been nice.”

“I’m sorry, Dedue.” Ashe’s face dulled.

“Ashe, I’m sorry,” Dedue apologized. “I didn’t mean to make things strange between us. I wanted to see you and I made it awkward.”

“It’s alright,” Ashe laughed a little. “I should have communicated with you about this. But nonetheless, I’m happy to be home.”

“As am I,” Dedue smiled.

“So, can I have my trademark Dedue bear ‘welcome home’ hug?” Ashe laughed.

Dedue smiled, wrapping his arms around Ashe’s body and feeling his warmth. “Now, let’s get back to making dinner.”

“Of course,” Ashe agreed.

At the end of the night, after they had finished dinner, they cuddled up into bed with each other. Dedue gave a big smile, his heart becoming warmer, when Ashe latched his arms around Dedue’s waist. He let out a little sigh of relief before drifting off into his own slumber. He was truly happy that Ashe was home.

I can now finally post this up! I got to write a piece for @asheduecookbook a little bit ago and I wrote about a little domestic life between Ashe and Dedue. Yet another ship of mine that falls under being a QPR for me. I have many, and one of them is AsheDue.

your slumber was put to an end by dedue, who shook you awake in a hurry. it took a moment before you remembered how you ended up in this situation and why it was so bad that dedue and you had fallen asleep. but when you did, you were wide awake!

“w-what time is it–!?”

you looked around the room, trying to remember where you had thrown your clothes. after dedue and you snuck away to your room, you hadn't really paid attention where you threw your clothes when you were stripping down. but now you wish you had!

“it's almost two! we'll miss professor byleth's class if we don't hurry–!”

finally, you spotted some clothes on the floor. with a blanket wrapped around you, you hurried to pick them up and put them on, as dedue did the same. in the distance, you heard the bell ring. your time was up!

“i can't find the rest of my clothes…”

dedue looked around the room, shirtless. but no matter how hard he looked, his shirt was nowhere to be found.

“we don't have any more time…”

“fine, i– i'll take the window, you take the door! i'll pass by my room and put on a spare shirt!”

you nodded silently.

“see you in class!”

you arrived on the training grounds shortly after the clock struck two. everyone else was already gathered there and you joined your classmates, trying not to let anyone notice how out of breath you were from running late.

“oh, there you are! we thought something happened, when you didn't show up earlier…”

annette smiled at you, as you joined the group. the other blue lions had gathered up already and dedue was the only one missing now. you hoped that it wasn't too suspicious that the two of you were both late…

“is that shirt new? it feels familiar, but i don't think i've seen you wear it before…”

with an innocent smile, mercedes pointed at your shirt. or rather, dedue's shirt! as you looked down on yourself, you realized that you had put on his shirt, without realizing it. both were white and part of your uniform, so you hadn't noticed, while hurrying to get dressed…

“you're right, it is familiar! i think dedue has one just like that–!”

dimitri pointed out, smiling as he pointed at the little details on the shirt. dedue was his retainer, so of course dimitri would know what his clothes looked like. but you wish he hadn't said it. while dimitri might've not noticed the implications of what he said, sylvain, felix and ingrid certainly had!

“is it a shirt that looks like dedue's shirt or could it be that this is–”

before sylvain could finish his sentence, ingrid and felix both slapped his arm, causing the redhead to wince.

and as if matters couldn't get worse, dedue joined the group at the worst time possible.

“apologies for being late! i spilled a drink on my shirt and had to get a new one. what did i miss?”

the other blue lions slowly but surely put together the pieces. and as you could see each one of them have a moment of enlightenment, your face got more and more red.

“d-did i say something i shouldn't have…?”

dedue noticed the tension, his voice quiet, as he glanced at you. slowly, you nodded and sighed.

“i think you did…”

- about the rarepair: i think i'm the only person on earth who ships sothis with arval LMAOOO 😭 (relevant to my modern au eheh) i also like the idea of f!shez with flayn. i ship ashe and marianne but i'm not sure it's a rarepair. as for dimitri and byleth- yes, i cant bring myself to really ship anything that isnt dimileth xD i do like some byleth ships (mercedes, seteth, felix, jeritza, dorothea, even edelgard) but i dont engage with them often; if i had to choose someone else for dimitri (like in a world without byleth) i'd go for dedue or felix, but again, dimileth is the only ship for them in my heart and in my mind LMAO

The shout that went up when Prince Dimitri announced that the war was finally over knocked the air out of Byleth's chest with its force. This final victory had been hard earned. It only made sense that the celebration would be equal in proportion.

Commoners and nobles alike wept with joy, falling to the ground or into one another's embrace. Byleth laughed as she watched an overjoyed Annette jump into Felix's arms and plant a messy kiss on his lips. Dorothea wiped away Ingrid's relieved tears, and in the distance, Byleth could spot Dedue fighting through the throng to make his way to Dimitri. Smiling, she congratulated him one last time and moved into the crowd. Best to leave them to it.

The tidal wave of euphoria was nearly overwhelming — she was so fragile these days when it came to her emotions. Hands slapped her on her shoulders and back as she forced her way through the throngs, well-meaning friends congratulating and thanking her. But there was only one man that she really wanted to see. His familiar head of hair was just ahead. If she could only push through…

"Seteth!" She had to shout to be heard over the din, even though he only stood a few feet away.

He turned, smiling like she'd never seen and grabbed her hand. "Congratulations, Professor!"

Flayn beamed from behind him. "It is all thanks to you."

"Truly," Seteth agreed. "You alone turned the tides in our favor."

Byleth choked out a wet laugh. Reality was really setting in now. They had won. The war was over. There would be no more divine pulses, not with any luck. They could all put their weapons to rest at last. Heels of her palms to her cheeks, she wiped away her tears roughly.

Seteth's hands were on her shoulders. "Are you quite alright?" he asked. His voice was unsure.

Byleth knew she wasn't exactly known for her expressiveness, but surely he couldn't miss how overjoyed she was. Perhaps he thought she was going mad with relief. "You — you idiot," she laughed, batting his arms away. "I'm happy." The future was stretching before her now, long and full of promise.

"I was only concerned-" Goddess, was she tired of the talking. So much talking without ever saying anything at all. With a sudden burst of courage, Byleth threw caution to the wind. Fisting her hands in his collar, she yanked him down to her level and kissed him. That would shut him up.

And it did. Their teeth clacked and his nose hit the side of hers, but Byleth readjusted quickly. It was her first time — mistakes like that were to be expected. Seteth, on the other hand, froze under her touch. She was just moving away to apologize when she felt him chasing after her, smothering her. A laugh bubbled up her throat and onto their lips. All the rest of the world seemed to fade to the back of her mind, just the two of them left.

(All the world except Flayn, making a squeaky, choking noise. Someone next to her whooped. That could all be dealt with later.)

Once he had recovered, Byleth was happy to let Seteth take the lead, gently showing her how to properly angle her head with both hands cupping her cheeks.Warmth crested in her chest, and her toes curled in her boots. She soon discovered she was a quick learner, and insatiable too. Within a few seconds she was teasing him, asking to be let in. Seteth only allowed her a short moment of permission before he moved suddenly, dipping away from her.

Her brain was too fuzzy with adrenaline to string a coherent sentence together. She just watched, over the moon and absolutely dumbfounded as he laughed himself breathless, clinging to her hands.

"What…" she managed.

"I'm sorry love, I — my knees gave out." The man had been reduced to a mess of tears and giggles.

"But you were leading!" Another smile was pulling at her mouth, and she didn't attempt to fight it.

"I am aware!" Seteth exclaimed. "I do not know what came over me."

"Well I," she laughed, "am flattered," and pressed a kiss to his forehead, reaching up on her toes and bracing her hands on his shoulders to do it. "Shall we do it again sometime?"

"I think we shall," he laughed. "Though perhaps somewhere private, yes?"

Byleth looked around for the first time in minutes. Flayn was determinedly looking anywhere but them, while some of her former students who knew just how vitriolic their relationship had once been looked on in amusement. Her entire body prickled with heat — such displays were so contrary to her normal behavior. "That sounds like a good idea," she said sheepishly.

Hand in hand, the new pair made their way back to the relative privacy of camp.
