My first Monsttober fic for Monsttober 2023! The theme was Were-beast.

A series of murders has uprooted the previously peaceful life of residents in Morioh. Little has been revealed about these mysterious murders, but every citizen can sense, with growing dread, just how awful they've been. Nijimura Okuyasu has kept himself closed off from everyone but his brother for years, and these murders have only encouraged his anxious and reclusive behavior. After fixing a man's car in a pinch, the friend that brought him there-Higashikata Josuke-just won't leave Okuyasu alone. With details of the murders finally coming to light after their increased frequency and Okuyasu's own dark past looming, what will happen to the residents of this no longer peaceful town?

It’s important, to form a bond with the characters of a story you read, to feel and understand them. Its another thing to loathe and love the characters you read about. For in those cases, they are no longer feel like words on a page, but a person by your side—a person like you.

When an author abandons their words—abandons the characters they created to fail in the tragic way of real life, it means they’ve abandoned far more. For two different worlds to collide through the abandonment of story on one end and the treasuring of words on another, that too is a beautiful tragedy.

There's nothing like a simple trip from your lovely palace to the poorer outskirts of your city which leads to one thing which then leads to another which leads to yet another and hey, when did romance come into the mix? Neji hadn't planned for this. He hadn't planned for any of this. Looking back on it, he hadn't planned anything when he abruptly left the palace to see the outer villages of the kingdom. He's lucky a knight in shining armor came to his rescue, even if he was dressed in ragged, dirty clothes instead of polished armor.
