Ornaments
Pairing: Pedro Pascal x Reader
Words: 1,161
Warnings: Christmasy stuff, sappy married dorks.
A/N: Do you have any idea how hard it was to avoid the word bauble since I know you yanks don’t use it? lmao. I did steal the entire premise of this from a reddit post which I saw second hand on instagram. Also the artificial tree is v much based on the one i own, down to the complaints about the coloured bits.
Decorating was one of your favourite parts of the festive season. All the lights and sparkly ornaments, there was just something magical about it. By the time Christmas Day rolled around your balcony railing would be festooned with lights or garlands of stars and snowflakes, your desk would be home to a gingerbread scented candle and some decorative reindeer, and there’d be a wreath adorning your front door. But the first thing to go up, and always on the first day of December, was the tree. Of course, you didn’t have to do it all on your own. It was tradition for you and Pedro to decorate together, a tradition that had been going longer than your marriage. It had started in your first year of dating. Very occasionally you’d had to do the bulk of the decorating by yourself, particularly if Pedro’s work kept him away from home. But in those instances, he’d always found the opportunity to Face Time so he could keep you company and offer complements. And you always saved the star for him, even if he couldn’t place it atop the tree for over a week. Thankfully, this year all his projects had wrapped, and Pedro was free to join in the fun.
The first had fallen on a weekday so by the time you got home from work you were eager to get started. Pedro, having had an earlier finish, and knowing you wouldn’t want to wait a second longer than necessary, had already ordered some takeout and pulled the boxes of decorations down from the attic. You gave him a quick kiss as thank you and then dove for the box of tree parts while he put on a spotify playlist of Christmas music. The artificial tree was a few years old but it always took longer to put together than you remembered it doing the year before. Pedro worked on getting the base and central poles clicked together while you organised the individual branches into piles based on their little coloured ends. That was a somewhat challenging task since a few of the colours were similar enough to be hard to tell apart at first look, especially when they’d faded a little with age. It was hard to understand why the manufacturers would have chosen brown, yellow, grey, green and a very greeny-blue instead of anything more firmly contrasting. But you managed to sort it all out mostly on your own, once or twice asking Pedro to double check. And then, finally, you could assemble the tree, inserting the branches into the little grooves all along the central pole. First one colour, then another, moving from the larger bottom branches to the smallest ones around the top. You and Pedro made a competition out of who could get the most branches in securely, but in the end you both lost count and had to call it a draw. Each of you claimed a kiss as your prize.
You were just finishing separating all the little offshoots out, spreading them apart after they’d been pressed together in their box for months, so that the tree looked full and perfect, when the takeout arrived. It was the only thing that could have made you take a break, especially when Pedro produced a bottle of wine to accompany the dinner. You didn’t bother to move to the table or even to the lounge, deciding to just sit where you were, surrounded by the boxes of decorations. But your mind was firmly on the tree, and you only ate at a reasonable pace because you kept talking about decorating it.   “What colour theme should we go with this year?” “What’d we do last year?” Pedro asked between mouthfuls. “We went traditional last year, silver and gold.” “Well let’s do something brighter this year, all our most colourful ornaments.” You agreed, grinning.
Once you were done eating you could actually starting hanging the decorations. You’d been buying ornaments for years, struggling to resist picking up something new each year. Especially post-Christmas when all the unsold decorations went on sale. And then Pedro had added his more modest collection to yours when you’d moved in together. So there was a lot to choose from. The tinsel was first. Pedro (groaning as he got up off the floor) pulled a few different lengths from the box, comparing them to each other to assess their colourfulness. In the end he went with one that was mostly purple but with strands throughout in every other colour of the rainbow. He set to winding it through the branches as you were disentangling the lights. Once they were unwound and unknotted you plugged them in to make sure they still worked and, when it was clear they did, the two of you threaded them around the tree too. Even just having the bright spots of coloured light made everything feel more festive and fun.
But then came the real fun. The ornaments. Pedro sang along to the Christmas songs as he dug through the tub of ornaments to find the best ones, and it was impossible not to join in his singing. You only paused to take sips of wine or to step back and make sure there were no two ornaments of the same colour situated too close together on the tree. You couldn’t stop smiling. You were doing one of your favourite holiday activities with your favourite person. He made it all the more fun, joking around and laughing. It was almost a shame when it was done, both of you moving back to take in the multicoloured display. “The star!” you said suddenly, realising you’d forgotten it. The tree was too tall for you to reach, and besides it was usually Pedro’s job, so you held the star out to him, “Do the honour?” "I did it last year, it’s your turn,” he said with a shake of his head and then eh wandered off to grab a chair for you to stand on. He even held out his hand as support while you stepped up onto it.   With the extra height it was much easier to reach so you placed the star, carefully pulling your hands back, hoping it was balanced correctly on the point, “There, perfect.” Pedro hummed in agreement but when you turned to him for a hand down, you saw he wasn’t looking at the tree. “What?” “I am so in love with you.” Pedro smiled up at you, his hand rising to your hips. You would have sworn you’d melted like a snowman with the way your heart felt so full. You’d been together for so long. You were married. And yet here he was telling you not just that he loved you but that he was still in love with you.  You’d never felt so lucky. “I’m in love with you too.” The Christmas lights twinkled behind you as you leant down to kiss him.

Port Jervis, New York - A Historic Canal and Railroad Transport Hub
Tumblr media
With roots as a pre-automobile transportation hub, Port Jervis, New York, is a historic burgh with a history of colonial settlement extending to the 1690s. Northeast of New York City, it’s situated amidst the fertile valleys of the Delaware and Neversink River systems. The valleys mark the boundary between the Appalachian Plateau and Shawangunk Mountains, and hundreds of miles of state and nationally-managed recreational lands surround it.
Initially known as Carpenter’s Point, Port Jervis was a landing point for timber raftsmen who plied the upper Delaware River. It was also a stop on the Old Mine Road, the country’s first 100-mile road (now United States Route 209), which took travelers south from Kingston.
Carpenter’s Point was incorporated into Deerpark in 1798. The locale was named Port Jervis in 1827, and it officially became a port of the Delaware River and Hudson Canal in 1828. As a repair point and boat basin, it formed an essential station on a 171-mile-long transportation network that brought anthracite coal from Pennsylvania’s northeastern mountains to New England and New York City. The name was in honor of the Hudson Canal’s chief engineer, John B. Jervis, from Rome, New York.
In 1847, Port Jervis became a hub for railroad operations and grew to house a main engine terminal facility while serving as the Delaware Division of the Erie Railroad’s headquarters. This property included the railroad’s primary maintenance and yard facilities.
Port Jervis officially became a village in 1853 and ultimately incorporated as a city in 1907. In the late 19th century, several glass factories began business, and an influx of employees producing glassware, silk, gloves, shorts, mittens, and saws moved in. The railroad yards and light manufacturing shops were a major part of the local economy through the 1960s.
Today, tourism is the mainstay of Port Jervis, with historic Front Street featuring eateries, a bookshop, antique shops, and other small businesses. The well-marked Delaware River Heritage Trail provides a walking tour of various gardens, historical structures, and an exceptional view of the Delaware River.
Among the well-preserved sites worth exploring is Fort Decker, a stone house on West Main Street that was initially constructed in 1760 and burnt by Joseph Brant alongside Native American allies in a 1779 raid during the Revolutionary War. Serving as the Minisink Valley Historical Society museum, Martinus Decker rebuilt the house in 1793 and used it as a tavern and hotel during the years of the Delaware and Hudson Canal construction. Indeed, John B. Jervis stayed at the location while engineering the canal.
Another historic remnant is the Port Jervis turntable, which comprises a circular area with a 115-foot diameter and a bridge. Able to carry a weight of more than 440 tons or a locomotive loaded with coal and water, the turntable is the largest that still operates nationwide.
Befitting its status as a scenic tourist destination, Port Jervis offers several popular events each year, including the Fall Foliage Festival, for which volunteers place 50 corn stalks on light poles decorating Pike and Front Streets. There are also popular holiday events such as the Downtown Spooktacular and the Chriskindlmarkt, with the latter featuring horse and carriage rides and traditional juggling as entertainment.

Reviving this tumblr page 10 years down the line, to post some updates on my upcoming Omnidirectional speaker project
In brief: I want to design and build a set of speakers that play high-fidelity, omnidirectional sound, for the primary purpose of running UK/Jah Shaka style dub and reggae sessions.
I'm currently most set on Awassa Sound System, but really like the relevance and cheekiness of Omniscience Sound/Hifi. I think Awassa has a better ring to it, and an air of mystique, even.
Here's a breakdown of the plan so far:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for order of operations: Step 1:
Make a cheap and cheerful prototype of the MBL drivers. I just want to cut my teeth on the hardest part, to start building familiarity with the materials, principles, and manufacturing processes that will be involved in the build of the larger, final version.
If my friend who's into CAD and CNCing is willing, have him whip up some test lenses.
Use recycled drivers from old, cheap speakers as much as I can to keep initial exploratory costs down.
Find an active cossover unit that I can use to test different crossover frequencies with the different driver designs
Step 1 will be considered finished when I either have a working, not-awful-sounding radialstrahler, or have decided to abandon that aspect and am comfortable focusing on other methods for making omnidirectional sound.
Step 2:
Work on the other parts of the tower, namely the horn-loaded lens tweeter, the mid-bass lens, and the lower cabinet (lots of flexibility for internal design with the cabinet).
The cabinet (and maybe the horn lenses) will require learning to use a speaker simulation software
The bass scoops can come later, as there's not a lot of point building small/low-power scoops
As soon as I have a sense of what the appropriate crossover frequencies will be, order a custom dub preamp such as the RasFX Mini Pre
Get a set of relatively affordable power amps to drive the whole thing. 4 channels for a single tower to start with
Step 2 will be considered complete when I can gift (for cost of materials) a MK1 pair of these speakers to a friend of mine who's into sound system too - and of course build a set for myself!
Step 3:
Assuming everything goes smoothly in Step 2, work on scaling everything up. Size, power levels, etc. The rough goal is to be able to power a party with around 100-200 people. Maybe more, eventually
Try to figure out a way to be able to retain the functionality of a dub preamp for playing reggae, but also run the system in stereo for when I want to play
Build a set of scoop style subwoofers. The more, the bigger, the better!
Step 3, and thus the main body of the project will be considered complete when I have a fully functional, high-power sound system able to at least impress, though maybe not directly 'compete with', the current generation of younger sound systems like Indica Dubs, Ital Power, Creation Rebel, King Majesty, Sinai, and other such outfits.
-------------------
Step 4:
If everything up until this point has gone very well, and I feel confident with the various technologies, try to develop the designs to a point where it can stand as a single 'totem pole' style tower that can play to a decently-sized crowd of people.
I picture taking something like that to e.g. Boomtown Festival, and decorating it in all sorts of wacky space-age or mystical art. I think the fung shui of a single, central sound source would be really unique in a festival setting.
The big barrier is that omnis, when places inside, rely on walls and surfaces to create the feeling of 'omnipresence'. Outside, I'm not sure that'd work at all, let alone
Step 4 being complete would inherently require my sound to be powerful enough, high-enough-fidelity, and well-known enough to be included when people talk about "well-established" sound systems. The totem pole thing is a bit of a gimmick, let's be honest.
------------------
Imaginary step 5: If my work on this project can inspire more people to think outside the proverbial speakerbox when it comes to building reggae sound systems, I'd be a happy camper!

How to Choose the Right Electric Switch for Your Home or Business
Selecting the right electric switch for your home or business is crucial for both functionality and safety. With a variety of options available, making an informed choice can seem daunting. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate through the selection process, ensuring you choose the best electric switches for your needs.
1. Understand Your Needs
Before diving into specifics, assess your needs. For homes, consider the types of appliances and lighting you use. For businesses, think about the electrical load and the frequency of switch usage. This initial evaluation will guide you in choosing switches that match your requirements.
2. Types of Electric Switches
Electric switches come in various types, each suited for different applications. Here are some common types:
Single-Pole Switches: These are the most common and are used to control a single light or appliance from one location. Ideal for simple home lighting.
Three-Way Switches: Used in pairs to control a single light or appliance from two different locations, such as at the top and bottom of a staircase.
Dimmer Switches: This allows you to adjust the brightness of your lights, adding ambiance and saving energy.
Smart Switches: These can be controlled remotely via smartphone apps or voice commands, providing added convenience and functionality.
3. Consider the Material and Design
The material and design of a switch can affect both its durability and aesthetics. Common materials include:
Plastic: Affordable and available in various colors and designs, but may not be as durable as other materials.
Metal: More robust and often chosen for its sleek appearance and durability. Metals like stainless steel or brass are popular choices for commercial settings.
Choose a design that complements your interior decor. For homes, you might prefer stylish or decorative switches, while businesses might opt for more functional and robust designs.
4. Check Compatibility and Safety
Ensure that the switches you choose are compatible with your existing electrical system. Verify their voltage and current ratings to match your electrical switches for home or business’s electrical load. Using switches that are not rated for your electrical needs can lead to overheating and potential hazards.
Additionally, prioritize safety features such as:
Insulation: Proper insulation to prevent electrical shocks.
Built-in Circuit Breakers: For added protection against electrical faults.
Tumblr media
5. Energy Efficiency
Energy-efficient switches, such as dimmer switches or those with motion sensors, can help reduce energy consumption. These switches not only contribute to energy savings but also enhance convenience.
6. Consult an Electric Switch Manufacturing Company
When in doubt, consulting with a reputable electric switch manufacturing company like Asio Electricals can provide valuable insights. They can guide you in selecting switches that are both high-quality and suited to your specific needs. Their expertise ensures that you choose switches that are reliable, safe, and compliant with industry standards.
7. Installation Considerations
Professional installation is recommended, especially for complex setups or commercial applications. Proper installation ensures that the switches function correctly and adhere to safety standards.
8. Budget and Warranty
Finally, consider your budget. While it’s important to choose quality switches, options are available for various price ranges. Additionally, check for warranty offerings. A good warranty provides peace of mind and protects your investment.
Conclusion
Choosing the right electric switch involves understanding your needs, exploring different types, and considering factors like material, safety, and energy efficiency. By consulting with an expert electric switch manufacturing company such as Asio Electricals, you can ensure that your switches are not only functional but also reliable and safe.
Investing time in selecting the right electric switches will contribute to your electrical system's overall safety and efficiency, whether for your home or business.

How to Assemble a Balloon Column Stand: Step-by-Step Guide
Tumblr media
Creating a balloon column can seem daunting, but with the right balloon column stand and a clear step-by-step guide, you can easily assemble a professional-looking decoration. Follow these steps to create your own balloon column stand and impress your guests with a stunning centerpiece.
Materials You Will Need
Balloon column stand (base, pole/rods, connectors)
Balloons in your chosen colors and sizes
Balloon pump or helium tank (if using helium balloons)
Balloon clips, glue dots, or fishing line
Scissors
Optional: weights for added stability, accessories like ribbons or lights
Step 1: Prepare Your Balloons
Choose Your Colors: Select balloons in colors that match your event theme. You can use a single color, multiple colors, or a gradient effect.
Inflate the Balloons: Use a balloon pump or helium tank to inflate the balloons. Make sure to inflate them to a uniform size unless you are creating an organic column with varying sizes.
Secure the Balloons: Tie the ends of the balloons securely to prevent air from escaping. If using helium balloons, tie a weight to each balloon to keep them from floating away.
Step 2: Assemble the Balloon Column Stand
Set Up the Base: Place the base of the balloon column stand on a flat, stable surface. If necessary, add weights or fillable bases to ensure stability, especially for outdoor events.
Attach the Pole/Rods: Insert the pole or rods into the base. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure they are securely in place. Some stands have adjustable heights, so set the height according to your preference.
Add Connectors: Attach the connectors to the pole or rods. These will hold the balloons in place and help create the desired shape and pattern for your column.
Step 3: Create the Balloon Layers
Pair the Balloons: Start by creating pairs of balloons. Tie two balloons together at the necks, making sure they are the same size.
Create Clusters: Combine two pairs of balloons to form a cluster of four. Repeat this process until you have enough clusters to cover the entire pole/rod.
Attach Clusters to the Stand: Begin at the base of the stand and slide the first cluster over the pole/rod, securing it with the connectors. Continue adding clusters, stacking them tightly to create a full and even column.
Step 4: Customize Your Balloon Column
Add Accessories: Enhance your balloon column with accessories like ribbons, lights, or themed decorations. Secure these accessories with glue dots, tape, or fishing line.
Adjust and Perfect: Step back and assess the overall appearance of your balloon column. Adjust any balloons or accessories as needed to ensure a polished look.
Step 5: Final Touches
Check Stability: Ensure that the balloon column stand is stable and that the column is securely attached. Add additional weights if necessary.
Test for Durability: Gently shake the column to check for any loose balloons or accessories. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure everything stays in place.
Conclusion
Assembling a balloon column stand may seem complex, but with the right materials and a step-by-step approach, it becomes a manageable and rewarding task. By following this guide, you can create a stunning balloon column that will serve as a memorable centerpiece for any event. Whether you’re a professional decorator or a DIY enthusiast, mastering the art of balloon columns will undoubtedly enhance your event décor skills and impress your guests.
