✨ B&B’S CHRISTMAS ADVENT CALENDAR ✨
25th December - presents
THE END!!! I DID IT!!!
check out the other days | now on ao3
Summary: Just a month after defeating Chuck, Sam & Dean are faced with their first real Christmas. Eileen, Jody, Donna, Claire & Kaia descend on the Bunker for a Christmas celebration like no other. But for Dean, Castiel’s confession still weighs heavy. It might be easier to deal with if Cas was actually around to talk to but he and Jack are busy in Heaven. Surely they don’t have time to come home for Christmas…do they?
🌠
Dean shivers as he waits outside, tucking himself further into his coat.
The sky is dark but there’s still a hint of blue keeping the total darkness at bay. The moon shines down like a pure pearl, untouchable and perfect.
Nerves keep him from standing still so he wanders, boots crunching a little on the sprinkle of snow.
Thankfully, he doesn’t have to wait long for Cas to join him.
It occurs to him, far too late, that maybe he should have done something with the plant. Cas is holding a deep green bag with a gold tree on the front and Dean is curious to know what’s inside.
As it stands, Dean hasn’t wrapped, decorated or put the plant in a bag so Cas’ eyes go right to it.
“Oh, yeah.” Dean looks down at it like he’s never seen it before. “Guess there’s no hiding what this is, huh?”
“You bought me lavender?” Cas breathes, sounding far more impressed than he should. He steps closer, one hand reaching out to brush his fingers over the stems.
“Yeah, I…I know you like plants and I know you like bees so…” He presents it to him. “Thought I couldn’t go wrong with a plant that attracts bees.”
“Thank you, Dean.” Cas takes it carefully, looking Dean like he has somehow unravelled some sort of mysterious secret. “This is an incredibly thoughtful gift. I’ve never had a plant of my own to look after before.” He frowns. “Perhaps I should purchase a book for guidance on how to look after it.”
Dean can’t stop himself from grinning. “I think you’ll do fine, Cas. You’ve managed to keep Jack alive. A lavender plant can’t get up to more mischief than him, surely?”
Cas smiles, still gently touching the stems. “Yes, you’re probably right.”
Dean swallows. There’s a soft lull and he takes a breath, building himself up. Now’s his chance.
“Cas, I - ”
“Dean, can I - ”
They both start and stop at once. Part annoyed but mostly relieved, Dean says,
“Go on, Cas. What were you gonna say?”
“I know we have a lot to talk about.” Cas says quietly, eyes fixed on Dean’s. “But may I give you your present first?”
Dean hates himself for how happy he is that Cas is buying him more time. “Sure.”
Cas hands him the bag carefully, still holding his new plant too. Dean takes it and opens it with shaking hands. Then, like Claire, looks back up at Cas in confusion.
“It’s a…pillow?”
“Yes.”
Dean pulls it out of the bag, unsure what to think. It’s square and very soft with a midnight blue velvet cover. It looks good - the perfect size to put under your head for a nap, Dean thinks. He turns it over and is surprised to see small silver stitching dotted over the velvet like stars.
“It’s Aquarius.” Cas says, watching Dean’s face carefully. “The constellation.”
“Huh.” Ok, that is pretty cool.
“It seems Sam and I both looked to the sky for inspiration.”
It’s undoubtedly a good gift. But with the way Cas is still watching him, Dean feels like there’s more to it.
He turns it over again and a faint scent comes from it. He brings it to his nose and inhales. It smells like fresh rain and ozone and something muskier he can’t quite put his finger on.
“Why do I know that - ”
“It’s me.” Cas says suddenly. “It smells like me.”
“Yeah.” Dean lowers the pillow, heart hammering. “Yeah, it does. Why? How?”
“A part of me is inside it.” Cas is staring at him, lips parted slightly. “It’s filled with my feathers.”
Dean’s heart stops. “What? You mean your - ”
“Wing feathers, yes. What’s left of them, at least.”
Dean stares down at the pillow. He’s suddenly holding the most precious thing in the world. He has the urge to rip the pillow open and hold the feathers in his hands.
“I know it’s strange.” Cas continues, sounding almost embarrassed. “But I…I wanted to give you something of mine.”
Dean is still mute, unable to find the words to fully express how he feels.
“I almost gave you the blade.” Cas says, a small smile on his face. “But I hope you won’t be fighting anymore. Truly, Dean. I want…” He ducks his head a little. “I want you to be at peace. I want you to rest and be content.”
“Man, I can’t…” Dean can feel his eyes full of tears. “This is so much, Cas. You sure you wanna give this to me?”
“Of course. It was made for you. I wouldn’t want anyone else to have it.”
Dean sniffs and hastily wipes his eyes. “I don’t know what to say. ‘Thanks’ seems a bit of an understatement.”
“Do you like it?”
Dean feels the soft velvet under his skin and considers. “Depends.” He squeezes the pillow, fear stuck in his throat. “Is this a goodbye present?”
Cas takes a step closer and Dean can feel the first hint of warmth off his body. “Do you want it to be?”
Dean forces himself to meet his eyes. “No.” The night air is eerily still against the pounding of his heart. “I want…”
He trails off, feeling stupid. He can’t really ask, can he? He’s surely going to make a fool of himself. Why would someone pick Dean over heaven? Over their own kind? Over the wishes of their own child?
“Dean.” Cas’ voice is full of emotion, terrifyingly similar to how it was all those weeks ago. Dean, unable to look, jumps when Cas’ warm hand rests on his forearm. “You just have to ask.”
Dean can feel his bottom lip trembling. He drags his gaze up to Cas. His eyes are shining and there’s an expression on his face that almost takes Dean’s breath away: hope.
“Just ask me.” Cas’ hand slides down his arm and covers Dean’s own shaking one. “I’ll say yes.”
He wants to sob, wants to hide his face, wants to wrap his arms around Cas and never let go. Instead he takes a breath and says, “Cas, will you stay with me?”
Cas smiles. “Yes.”
Dean practically throws himself into Cas’ arms, face wet and hands shaking. Cas clings onto him tightly with his free hand, fingers curling into the back of Dean’s coat.
Dean lets out a shaky gasp when Cas’ lips brush his temple.
Still, they both cling to each other.
“It’s selfish.” Dean sniffs, face half-pressed into Cas’ neck. “Can’t ask you to give up heaven for me. And Jack…he’ll be so…” He sniffs again, guilt souring his happiness. “He’ll be devastated. He really wanted that for you.”
Cas’ hand, warm and big, rubs his back. “I don’t think so, actually.” Dean is surprised to feel him smile. Reluctantly, he pulls away.
“What do you mean?”
“I may have already rejected his offer.” Cas is barely holding back a smirk. Dean blanches.
“You mean you’d already…?”
“Yes.” Cas doesn’t bother hiding his smugness now.
“I didn’t have to…?”
“No.”
He stares at him, unblinking. “I just asked…and I didn’t have to?!”
“I’m afraid not.”
Dean feels exhilarated and cheated all at once. He grabs some snow and hurls it at him, peppering his dark hair with white. “You - you dick!”
Cas looks totally unaffected by the snow. If anything, he just looks even more handsome. “I had my moment, Dean. You had to have yours.”
“Oh, yeah, great! Thanks so much.”
“Excruciating, isn’t it?” Cas says almost gleefully.
Dean finds himself grinning. “Total agony.” Then his mood dips. “What did Jack say? Was he ok?”
“Oh, he was fine. Ecstatic, even.” Cas shakes his head, still smiling. “He said, ‘oh, it worked just like we planned!’”
Dean frowns. “What?”
“I suspect Jack and Claire have been ‘playing us’.”
Dean wants to kiss him when he starts doing those dumb airquotes but he’s too distracted to do it.
“Playing us?” He repeats, frowning. “How?”
“Apparently, Jack told Clarie all about our plans for heaven almost the second we arrived. I think that was part of the reason why she was so upset earlier. Then she and Jack had this idea that they could encourage me to stay by ‘getting us together’. I believe Kaia also became involved.”
Dean stares, tears freezing on his face. “You mean, the whole taking pictures, step-dad, gay advice stuff was planned?”
Instead of looking annoyed, Cas looks strangely proud of them. “Yes, I think so.”
“Huh.” Dean kind of admires them. “Played by our own kids. Jesus, what’s the world coming to?”
Cas smiles and Dean feels another swoop of excitement. He’s gonna get to see that smile every day for the rest of his life.
“There’s a reason I brought you out here.” Cas says quietly, holding Dean’s hand again. He points above them.
Stars twinkle and shine overhead, smattering the deepening sky with pure light. Cas points to one area to their right.
“That’s Aquarius.”
Dean’s gaze follows Cas’ finger, eyes tracing the constellation. He feels Cas’ eyes drop back to him.
“I helped build it.” He squeezes Dean’s hand, eyes big and soft. “Several other angels and I, we spent quite a while on that.”
Dean feels tiny, standing beneath a sky full of stars with one of the beings that put them there. Cas lifts Dean’s hand and gently kisses the back of it.
Like Dean hasn’t sinned with these hands. Like Dean hasn’t killed with these hands.
“Who would have thought,” Cas rumbles, low and romantic. “That I would fall in love with a man under the same sign?”
Dean tries desperately to think of something smooth or at least funny to say. But Cas has managed to woo any thought from his mind apart from: lips.
So he lunges towards Cas, crashing his mouth against his.
Thankfully, Cas is very amenable to making out under the stars he created.
_
“And you did all of this to get me to stay?” Cas says as they wander back inside, hand in hand, while tells him all about the cooking and the baking and the panicked strategy meetings with Eileen and Jody.
“Not just me.” Dean swings the bag with the pillow inside. “Everyone wanted to show you how much we all…you know.”
“No, I don’t.”
Dean huffs, rolling his eyes. “You know what. I said - ”
“No, you didn’t.” Cas pulls slightly on his hand, getting him to stop walking.
Dean starts to see where this is going and tries desperately to avoid it. “Sure I did. I said it.”
“No, you did not.” Cas stares and raises one eyebrow.
Dean squirms. “Alright, fine! I didn’t. But you know what I mean.”
“I suppose I do.” Cas sighs and Dean immediately feels guilty. After everything they’ve been through, the least he can do is say it.
So Dean squeezes his hand and says, “I love you.”
Cas has got him pushed up against the wall before he can even blink. Cas is in total control this time and Dean finds himself very happy to surrender. He sighs as Cas’ lips kiss and nip their way from his mouth and down to his neck.
Cas is just paying delightfully intense attention to a sensitive spot just beneath Dean’s ear when someone clears their throat.
They both jump, scrambling to stand back up properly. Dean goes cold when he sees Sam staring at them with an unreadable expression.
“S-Sammy. Hey. Uh, what - uh, what can I…uh, what are you up to?”
Sam looks between both of them. “So, you two are…” He trails off gesturing between them.
“Yes.” Cas says firmly. Dean opens and closes his mouth.
“Right.” Sam pauses before grinning and, unexpectedly, rushing over to hug Cas. “See, man?” He claps him on the back. “I told you it’d work out.”
“Yes, thank you, Sam.” Cas is a little pink as he smiles.
“I knew you’d get your head outta your ass eventually.” Sam finally hugs Dean who stands totally still, confused and shocked.
“You knew about - ?”
“Yeah, of course!” Sam grins, stepping back. “Cas kinda told me about it ages ago. Way before the whole Chuck stuff went down.” Dean gapes at him. “Not outright, like, ‘hey, I’m in love with Dean’ but we kinda talked around it enough. Since we’ve been free though, we’ve been talking more.”
“I can’t believe you - you - ” Dean stammers, looking between both of them. “I can’t believe Sam knew before me.”
Cas blinks, frowning a little. “I had to tell Sam, Dean. He’s my best friend.”
“No, he’s not!” Dean snaps. “I’m your best friend!”
“I think you might be more than that now, dude.” Sam laughs, putting his arm around Dean’s shoulders and squeezing. “Which means I get an upgrade!”
With that Sam skips off, whistling as he goes.
“He’s right, Dean.” Cas pulls him close, pressing a soft kiss against his lips. “You are much more than that.”
_
Dean is sitting in his usual place on the couch, Cas squished in by his side.
Now, he can put his arm around the back of the seat as much as he likes. But Cas has already beaten him to it - his arm is draped over the pillows and Dean curls into him, hair brushing Cas’ dark stubbled chin.
He’s starting to see what Cas meant when he said he thought Dean should be spoiled.
Dean isn’t complaining at all. Occasionally, he’ll lean in and kiss Dean’s temple again. It makes him sigh happily each time. Claire keeps making vomit noises but she’s smiling at them too.
The credits roll on Die Hard and a chorus of yawns echo around the room.
Jack leaps up first, picking up his Marvellous Marvin book.
“I think I’m going to bed.” He announces to the room. “I have to be up early to talk about our plans.” He beams at Cas and Sam happily. Dean feels warm inside.
Jack has offered Cas something else. He’s to be the Seraph of Earth - guiding lesser visiting angels through their time on Earth where they can perform small miracles, demonic exorcisms or merely gather information on humans.
It’s not as much power as being on the Heavenly Council but it’s much more freedom.
Even better, Sam has offered the visiting angels space in the Bunker as a base. Meaning Cas can work out of the Bunker with Sam and the other hunters.
Dean feels like he’s living a dream because there’s no way he could ever be this lucky. He pinches himself and ow! Yep, he’s definitely awake.
“Oh!” Jack cries and then disappears without another word. They all look around, waiting for him to return.
When he pops back, he’s holding the wish jar and frowning. He sighs as he peers into it.
“Jack?” Cas’ voice rumbles through Dean’s body, making him tingle. “Are you alright?”
“It’s the wish jar.” Jack huffs. “No one put anything in it!”
Dean smiles and squeezes Cas’ hand in his. He looks at Sam and Eileen curled up together in one chair, Eileen’s new necklace glinting in the light. He looks at Claire and Kaia, legs tangled where they’re stretched out on the rug. He looks at Donna and Jody and…he frowns. He’s pretty sure Jody’s wearing the exact same lipstick mark Cas had on his cheek earlier in the day.
He meets Jody’s eyes and grins, tapping his face where the mark is on hers. She frowns, touches her own face and then goes bright red.
“I think it’s a good thing, Jack.” Dean grins, settling back down against Cas. He closes his eyes and basks in the joy of being surrounded by the people he loves most. Cas’ thumb caresses the back of his hand and he smiles.
“Everyone’s already got everything they want.”

Season Announcement Wednesday...errr...Thursday
Sometimes the day just gets away from you and before you know it, you realize you forgot to post a Season Announcement! How dare I?! Well, fear not! Today's highlighted company is one that I don't get out to as much as I'd like, but when I do, it always results in an evening well spent at the theater. With that, let's head on over to the lovely East Bay town of Pinole to see what Pinole Community Players has in store for its audiences in 2019!
Shows/Dates: Lucky Stiff (February 1st - 23rd); Harvey (June 7th - 22nd); A Chorus Line (September 27th - October 19th); Sounds of the Season (December 20th - 22nd)
Venue/Address: Pinole Community Playhouse @ 601 Tennent Avenue, Pinole 94564
Website: www.pinoleplayers.org
Facebook: "Like" them at- Pinole Community Players
Twitter: None
Description: Though celebrating 32 years, it was just eight years ago that I stumbled upon Pinole Community Playhouse. It was the summer time, and I was home from Fresno State. I took a friend to see their production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. I laughed so hard, and had the pleasure to be a speller! I misspelled some word miserably, but my enjoyment as an audience member was obvious. It wouldn't be until 2015 when I would walk through their doors again, but this time as an actor auditioning for their production of Arsenic and Old Lace. I was blessed to be cast as Mortimer, and had a thoroughly fun time doing the show their. Since then, I have seen their production of Godspell, which was excellent and very fun. Book a night now for some 2019 evenings at Pinole and enjoy the wonderful titles they have to offer. Go see a show!
