Tahm very rarely heard whispers of tales as strange as he, and it had surprised him greatly when one reached his ears in Ionia, of all places. It was uncommon enough that he’d heard of people, or creatures of note in general- but Ionia was not a place he’d ever associated with monsters.

The River King is driven by curiosity as much as any human is, and it was because of this that he found himself searching for the creature- if it wasn’t to settle a rivalry (because, truly, he was enjoying being the only creature with a terrible hunger), it was at least to ascertain whether they were like he; sensible, sentient, and marvelously intelligent.

He’d heard she was around here somewhere, and his aimless blundering was at least noticeable enough that sooner or later, one of them was going to find the other amongst the bamboo groves and quiet roads of the south of Ionia.
